"american league" Discussed on Big Time Baseball

"Your neighbor's neighbor and his neighbor's neighbor. It's roundup. Weed and grass killer with short shot want. When used as directed always read and follow pesticide label directions. We'll see how that one shakes out. AO central up for grabs twins leading the way right now. Byron buxton continues to have a good year. The twins, I mean, this team quietly has taken that division as the White Sox are trying to get their health in order. And they haven't quite been right yet. It seems like it's up for grabs. Cleveland hasn't been bad to you. No, Cleveland can hit. I can't believe it. They're the only team in the American League getting over two 50. And you know, there's 7th in OPS and all baseball at a 30. I mean, we all thought it was just those Ramirez, but Owen Miller's doing a nice job. Andre's him and his, I mean, he was one of two short stops they got four Lindor he's I played Lindor. They can hit they can hit. They can hit up and go at lineup. It's really the pitching that hasn't been what we thought. Bieber has not been what he had been, obviously, was a so young one, but you expect him to at least be very good starter. Yeah, we thought it would be more pitching for the Indians. The white socks to me though, they're a surprise. I mean, obviously they've had a lot of guys get hurt. That's a killer when you lose Lin. They lost giolito a couple times already. You know, I've had mankind out. You've had Robert out. Jimenez is out. It's been rough, but they have not performed either. I mean, Hendricks is, I mean, going in, you look at Hendrix and hater is the two best reliever in baseball. I mean, haters been lights out. Hendrix has really gotten blown up a few times. I don't expect that to continue, but you've had that go on and also in terms of their hitting and basically getting a good year out of Anderson moncada and Vaughn. Everybody else is not even a brave and grand not hitting. And you know, I'm worried about them. I really am. We'll see on the twins that you write about buxton. I mean, what a terrific talent when he's on the field such a difference. Yeah. There's no question when he is healthy. Man, there may not be a more explosive baseball player going right now. And Major League Baseball. I got a circle back to the national league west. I somehow skipped them. Padres. It's my vision. I think I got so sidetracked talking about Manny MVP and may. I lost my way there. But national league west, Dodgers, Padres setting the pace, they're tied to top the division, giants there behind the Diamondbacks then in fourth rockies and last all above 500 right now, Padres just had a terrific series. They could have very well have swept the braves. If they didn't give up four in the 8th of the game before, yes, yesterday on Saturday. But they come back and win a tough start with Kyle Wright, had it going yesterday. They have played as good a baseball as anybody in Major League Baseball without Fernando Tatís Jr. and it starts with their starting pitching. The Dodgers also playing Dodger baseball, although just lost three or four to the Philadelphia Phillies. Yeah, you're absolutely right about the pie raise. I mean, you know the pad rates, I almost forgot about tatis, they're playing so well and I know, right? I want to call them our Padres now since I had them in the playoffs in a very tough league. I mean, I think that the national league is a deep, so I think actually just getting into the playoffs is very difficult in the national league. I had to leave out the Giants, the Phillies, which I wasn't happy about. I think those are good teams. American League, I happily left out of 15 teams, but, you know, I think San Diego has got among the best pitching and baseball, probably the deepest AJ's always acquiring somebody, you know, even when we thought they were the deepest, here comes mania. So I mean, you know, he's done a good job at this point. They look very, very good. I mean, the Dodgers are still the favorite, but to me, the rockies are a surprise in the boy that Diamondbacks. What a huge surprise they came in here. They had one guy betting over 200 when they were in New York and that was Seth beer. And then he went on like an over 30 shriek after that. And they're managing to win and I mean, I think the hiring of Brent strum. I mean, the guy must be a magician or something because they're starting pitching is completely turned around. Even Bumgarner that I shouldn't say even because obviously he was a great pitcher with the Giants, but I mean, normally you don't go uptick in your velocity at this stage in your career, so he's at a turnaround Zach Davies who was not at all good last year he's doing well and gallon. I mean, gallon is one of the best pitchers in baseball right now. People thought he had that he's potential, but it was already traded twice. So they figured something out or I should give him the credit. He figured something out and they're pitching looks actually very, very good. I mean, that division is going to be tough though, so they're not going to contend, but let's give them credit. To me, that's the biggest surprise. More than the angels because the angels to me, you know, if you've got trial in your attorney and they're healthy, you know, there is obviously a big potential there. All right, John, that's going to do it for this week. Episode of big time baseball. I'm Tony Gwynn junior. He's John Heyman. We'll catch you next week. In growing companies, there's two kinds of CFOs. The one overwhelmed with manual processes, errors, and lack of control of the numbers, and the one who uses NetSuite. By.

"Know there are a lot better than I thought he liked them you know he's always positive about everything. So it's hard to tell publicly he's not going to say anything negative and that's probably the way to be if you're the manager, but I think so. I think he believed that severino coming back to the injury. He saw something more in Cortez than we thought. He's great. Cortez. I mean, it's going to be him or Verlander for this. That's going to be quite a race at this moment, but obviously it's early in a long way to go. I mean, what was your 36th rounder? I wrote about it. I was so far. It was picked like a thousand something, give him credit. I think his determination was one of the factors, you know, I basically, as the what would you, you know, what were your other plans when you had that 15 year array when you had a cup of coffee and you go cut by Baltimore, you could cut by the Oreos. I mean, I would have just given up if I'm cut by the Orioles, he's like, I had no other plans. It's the only thing I can do. I have nothing else I can do. I think he was determined to make it work. Any given credit? He's done it. So, you know, you like Cortez better. He'll be coming back from the injury. I was a little worried about 70 on with an injury history, good, very good picture went healthy and, you know, they've had health. They've really, they've kept their guys healthy this year. And that's been a key instant too. I mean, if he's healthy enough to play the field, he's going to hit. I mean, obviously a terrific talent. You're right, Rizzo's done great too. And even Gallo is starting to pick it up now. I think New York was an adjustment. Maybe he's adjusting, you know? I mean, he should be a decent player. I'm not going to say he's, you know, the end all be all that some of the new analytics guys think that he is. But he should be a good player. Certainly not the player that we've seen for the first half year in New York. So, and look, Toronto's got a negative run differential. Boston is completely flopped, you know, had them as a playoff team at their pitching is a mess. A skeletal me and if they don't get their bullpen together, forget about it. And he thinks they're going to be a seller. Wow. No one would have guessed that they would be a seller coming in and that immediately makes me think of Bogart's for the Red Sox who doesn't have a new contract yet. Last time I checked, that stopped discussing contract talk. So in growing companies, there's two kinds of CFOs. The one.

"Junior here with big time baseball. John Heyman, Cody decker and myself love starting every week talking about all the action around Major League Baseball. So if you like what you hear, go ahead and subscribe and leave a 5 star rating for big time baseball. New episodes are released every Monday on the Odyssey app and wherever you find your favorite podcast. All right, let's slide to the American League John and last week, Cody and I were having this conversation and we said this next week who is leading, we said this time next week, who is leading the AOS. And I believe Cody said it would be the Astros, and he was spot on. And the Astros have won 17 of their last 21 Alvarez is every time I turn on the TV, he's hitting the home run. This is not all that surprising for the Astros. I think you've been on the Astros from the very beginning if I'm not mistaken as well. Yes, I had them in the World Series, right? And then two weeks ago, I was switched off and I'm glad that Cody picked up with the correct prediction there that it would be the Astros. We'll see. I mean, obviously 17 of 21s pretty good. They're pitching in outstanding. I think they're fourth or 5th in baseball, which is not surprised at all. And pitching and they have most of those lost some good kickstarts, obviously we know with Correa out. They've got Pena now in who's been really good. They look Springer. They really didn't replace him. I know dusty wanted Marte. A lot of people probably wanted more today, but you know, they still have a really good team. So I mean, on paper on the president, it seems like there should be the favorite. I don't think that's a surprise. Those other teams are interesting though. I mean, Seattle was a popular pick. I had them going to the playoffs after watching them. I know they want two out of three of the mets. I'm questioning my sanity there. We'll see. I've always been a known as a Mariners detractor. I probably should have stayed that way. We will see. I mean, obviously, Crawford's doing great ty France, that's your guy, you picked that out when I think he was in grammar school or something. We started out him. And so good give you credit there. You know, and the angels they're the most fun team too. I always put them on. I got the two TVs working so early. I'll look at the two New York teams. It's in some of the New York Post, but late. You know, I used to look at the Padres, the Dodgers, all different teams, angels, you know, they've got Otani, they've got trout, they've got this award guy doing fantastic. They are a fun, fun team. I don't know if they're going to make it. I mean, I still think the ice storms win that division, but the angels are a lot of fun to watch. Yeah, now the angels, the angels have become very exciting. And they're getting pitching. Will it last? I think we'll have to wait and see, but certainly they've been to me one of the most exciting teams in baseball to watch and watch on TV. The AL lease, we talked a little bit about Aaron judge, but the Yankees as a whole are look well. They look pretty solid right now. And judge is healthy Stan's healthy Rizzo's doing his thing. We thought this division would have been was going to be with the NL west is, but this could vision might be over before it even gets started. If Toronto doesn't really kind of pick up the pace a little bit. Yeah, it's kind of shocking. I mean, I thought Toronto was the favorite in that division. I thought they'd win that division. Easily. We had Aaron Boonen right before the season on a hot stove and I basically said to him, look, you're managing a third place team and later I did apologize for that because it was probably a rude thing to say not only wrong but the right thing to say and you.

The 'Fact-Checkers' of '2000 Mules' Are Out of Their Depth

"When I'm seeing sort of two weeks into 2000 mules, a number of critiques in the movie initially, it was just the fact checkers, and the fact checkers clearly were out of their league. They had a very limited understanding of geo tracking and B had a very limited understanding of state laws, which vary on elections and so, for example, they would say things like, well, vote harvesting is legal. Well, no. What harvesting is not legal everywhere. It's legal in some states, and even in states that allow it, the conditions are normally quite restrictive. So my question is for the fact checkers, did you look at the ballot harvesting law in Wisconsin? Did you look at it in Michigan in Pennsylvania? Did you look at the nuances of these laws? No, the answer is no. So the 20 and 30 something fact checkers are kind of in too deep.

Kenny Xu Shares Shocking Statistics About Ivy League Admissions

"Will you just share with us some of the shocking statistics that you divulged at the conference in New Jersey, then yesterday on my show on newsmax when it comes to the barriers, the official barriers that are being put in place by deans of admissions by the directors of admissions at these very prestigious schools in America. So give us the nuts and bolts because I think most people will not believe what is being done to the Asian American community. Yeah, this is the results of my investigation in my new book and inconvenient minority. And the results are staggering. They are staggering. Asian Americans have to score 440 points higher on the SAT to have the same chance of admission as a black person. And a 150 points higher to have the same chance of admission as a white person. Asians actually score highest academically in the admissions process to Harvard. They score highest extracurricular and then Harvard penalizes Asians by calling them the lowest on this personality score. Now, what is a personality score you may ask? It's a test of what they call a likeability, good humor, leadership, skills, it's very subjective in Asian seem to pass with flying colors to get the highest scores on alumni interviews because the highest scores and teacher recommendations, a second highest on counselor recommendations. But Harvard rates the lowest anyway. Very suspicious. Seems like Asians are being discriminated in this process.

The Association of Winning With Happiness

"Why else did they drop valedictorians in so many schools? Because it'll make the non valedictorian unhappy. I told you fools teach your children as a general rule. Truly foolish foolish human beings. People devoid of wisdom. I wasn't valedictorian of my high school class. So what? So what? It's one of the happier kids in my high school class. I was even president of the high school class. So yeah, that sense I won. Meant more to me to be elected by my peers than it would have been a valedictorian. But it doesn't matter. If I were in president of the class, wouldn't have mattered. The association of winning with happiness, my kid has to get into the best possible college. So then the kid gets an acceptance into some Ivy League school and the kid is so happy. So I'm curious, here's an interesting question. I don't know the answer, but it's an interesting question. Is the average graduate of an Ivy League school Harvard Yale Princeton or non Ivy League Stanford Berkeley, ten years later, 30 years later, are they on average happier than those who went to Michigan state? Now, by the way, I know

Justice Douglas Manipulated Facts in Griswold v. Connecticut

"But let's continue here with our train of thought So William Douglas justice Douglas decision not only found a right of privacy in penumbras and emanations He had to manipulate the facts in the case In griswold versus Connecticut And so all those people waving around griswold are waving around a lie and they're perfectly happy with doing it Susan Collins Lisa Murkowski among them Estelle griswold was the executive director of Planned Parenthood league of Connecticut And doctor C Lee buxton the group's medical director gave information and prescribed birth control to a married couple Griswold and buxton not the married couple were later convicted and find a $100 each So in other words the couple that use the contraceptives they were charged with anything You're free to use the contraceptives But under Connecticut law it's the people who distributed them They were not allowed to distribute them The relationship issue then was doctor patient not husband wife Yet Douglas framed his opinion around a presumed right to marital privacy It had nothing to do with marital privacy It had to do with who is licensed to sell these products 60 some years ago

Supreme Court Abortion Law Leak: What Happened and Why Does It Matter?

"The biggest case in front of the Supreme Court is the Dobbs V Jackson women's health organization. This is the abortion case. This is the Mississippi case that outlaws abortion beyond 15 weeks. And of course, the court was sort of faced with sort of three options, a firm roe versus wade. Number two, uphold the Mississippi law, but somehow square it with roe versus wade and the third, knock over roe versus wade and along with that Planned Parenthood versus Casey, essentially return the abortion question to the states. And there was a leak that just came out in the magazine well on the website political. And the league not only says that the court has arrived at an early decision to overturn roe versus wade, but the decision is 5 to four that justice Samuel Alito has drafted the majority opinion, representing the 5 justices, and we know who those 5 justices are, so if I used to say that Roberts decided not to be in the 5, although I'll talk about Roberts a little bit later. A 5 four decision 5 votes to overthrow a row, return the matter to the states. And Alito drafted a lengthy opinion 98 pages. Now this is not the final opinion, but nevertheless, it is a closely reasoned, heavily footnoted detailed argument. And the whole brief was leaked. So the dissenting opinions appear not to have been written yet, and we'll talk a little bit about how that leak might have occurred. But I want to talk about how startling it is that the security around the court, because this kind of information by and large stays with the justices, and with their clerks.

How to Respond to the Transgenderism Argument

The Charlie Kirk Show

How to Respond to the Transgenderism Argument

"I had a question concerning the transgender argument. What do I ask my peers in order to basically shut down their transgender argument? And what reasons are to shut down the transgender argument? Yes, sir. If they bring it up. Sure. So it's a great question. So at the root of the transgender argument is a belief that you're feelings can dictate your reality. That is the basis of transgenderism. It is also a rejection of the absolute description of actually who you are as a person, right? So in order to properly expose the fraud of transgender movement or transgenderism, we must apply that to other facets of life, right? So if you can choose your gender, can you choose your age? If you could choose your gender, can you choose your species? Now, people might say, well, Charlie, those things are red herring arguments. They don't have anything to do with it. Of course they do. These are certifiable mental conditions that people have where they think they're younger than they actually are. Should a 50 year old who thinks that he's 50 year old should be able to compete in a youth soccer league with 8 year olds just because he feels that way. So at the core of transgenderism and I'm not making light of it, we should have compassion. We want Jesus for all these people. We want help and treatment for these people is a mental condition. Believing you are a separate gender than you are assigned from birth is called gender dysphoria.

"You'll get some of the stack. Gas numbers advanced metrics. They didn't treat him well. The argument then was well danny. Janssen isn't catching right. And his stats. Splits are so different with janssen behind the plate versus someone. Like reese mcguire albuquerque. It was danny janssen behind the plate in the first game of that double header. He was catching ryu in that. Game and review gave up seven runs in less than three innings of work so i was always skeptical on that argument. You can look at the numbers. Yes maybe it favors him in. Yes you look at the argument that like he just knows this guy better you know were you. It's very hard to think along with him on the mound but janssen does his best at doing that. You can make that argument. But it didn't work out this time. I really don't think that's the case with him. And i think it's a serious consideration like you. I think i hate to say it. But i think his status as a player his history as a pitcher requires him to be on that roster at the moment at least from what we know as much as i wanna be partial to the stats that we have in front of us and the trends from the last two months. He has been there before he's gone to the postseason countless of times with the dodgers he's lead them to the postseason in the first place so i would put him in that situation but at the same time i think the numbers over the next three weeks are going to be very dependent in that case the blue jays. Get to the lds or they get to the sob very interesting conversation to have later down the line but another thing to talk about you mentioned. It is vital mirror juniors sneaking up on the triple crown again. I think we'd all at the start of the season. We're all hopeful about it. We saw the stats even though if we didn't think they were sustainable. We were hopeful about it. He is creeping up into triple crown. Watch now again because he had his forty fourth home run of the season today so he is officially tied for the major league. Lead with shohei ohtani. He leads the american league in batting average at three nineteen. He's four points ahead of yuli. I believe it is who is in v Excuse me second place with a three fifteen batting average and then he is fourth in. Rbi he five back of jose. Break you who leads. Major league baseball tied for third. Excuse me with rafael devers. He has one two has one of seven and salvador perez is inbetween them so entirely possible. He is very close. You know if he has a good last few weeks. Shohei otani slow down a Safer salvador perez been really hop. I think he's slowed down as well in vlad heating up and staying hot so i think as far as average and homers go. I would on him finishing first in those two categories. I think the only thing that he might miss out on these rbi and we can talk about how much rbi doesn't matter but if we're looking at the crown of course it's important metric and i think it's possible i. I don't think it's going to happen. But i think it's very possible. It's very exciting to watch. And if you look at where we were with guerrero you know two three weeks ago in the middle of his very bad slump and our concerns about him and our frustrations with him It's nice to see him..

"The pitching wasn't the greatest overall in terms of starting pitching and bullpen. Help i mean if you wanna summit up all in a four game series. I think that's got to be worked on but when you look at the series beforehand. That pitching was amazing against the yankees. So it just shows how crazy of sport baseball is but you need pitching to beat the raise this week and i'm sure the jays are going to focus on areas to improve as much as they're happy for over the past weekend especially for this Series coming up against the raz. Yeah well that's exactly what i was gonna ask you about because if we're talking about the weaknesses of this team the weakness from the series certainly not hitting it is a starting pitching and i guess a tiny little bit of the bullpen. You saw a couple of people struggle out of the bullpen but primarily the main problem. If you're trying to pick out anything is high. Engine review. Giving up seven earned runs in two point one innings which i believe is shortage starts in twenty nineteen Of course shortage start is a blue jays so that's not ideal and then you have stephen mats different dynamic because of bluejays you know he never pitched in a situation where the blue jays didn't have a five run lead but at the same time he gave up five runs in his time and of course it would have been shorter if less runs if it had not been blow out because of bluejays would have taken him out earlier. It was a closer game but still not an ideal start from stephen matt's especially when we've seen him be so dominant over the past month month and a half two months so i wanna ask you about that especially you because i know we've talked about concerned with him and his lack of quality starts this season and you know you'll get his ray. It's up to four point. One one this guy. The blue jays. You're paying twenty million dollars this year. So if you're looking ahead and maybe this is getting too far ahead of selves. But if you're looking at obviously not the wildcard game. Everyone knows that. Robbie ray is starting the wildcard game if the blue jays are in that situation but if you look ahead to something like the american league division series or the al cs in a longer five or seven game series. Do you contemplate taking review out of the rotation and like you know you know in postseason spot so you roll with four men rotation if the situation allows us a schedule allows maybe even three men rotation right now engine reuse the worst starter on the blue jays is he the odd man out is he the you know kind of ra dickey type who moves to the bullpen and becomes along man or do the blue jays even consider leaving him off the postseason roster entirely given. I always pitch lately like. It's weird that we're at that point of considering even doing that for guy. The blue jays had is our ace earlier in the season but just ways pitching lately it..

"Is this home. It's eighteen to four in the fifth inning. John jake lamps homered. Just keep on coming. They ask hernandez has driven and five today garri l. sex stood twenty two in the double header yesterday just second homerun run. It's just insane but wouldn't you say growing consensus in the american league. Nobody wants to see the blue jays. If they get in. I would say so. That just makes me smile. Listening to it Just because you love to hear the of. I don't know if i would describe it. As disappointment or shocker a little bit of both when they described well to oscar and as homered again jake liam went deep. It's pretty ridiculous. But yeah i think there is a growing sense that the blue jays are forced to be reckoned with and don't wanna get ahead of ourselves. We know things can change on a dime with this team but it really seems like this push is for real and this team is making it and i watched them disbelief every night. When these things happen but it really seems like they are right now. The team to be in the american league it is and if you wanna compare them to team like the red sox and the yankees right. Now they're just hang on for dear life especially the red sox you know the situations they've had with cova but of course the yankees to struggling. They think they ended their losing streak for the first time on saturday. Night against the mets in the subway series. It just anyone you want to compare them to the j just a completely different level right now. And that's the that's what makes them the scariest team. Not just that wild card race with like you were mentioning mark the entire american league and you know they have multi avid tough series coming up this time. We know it's the raise we know that they're arguably if not the best team in the american league right now as well and the record shows that as well. It's going to be tough. You know the jays don't really play the as well but the you know just the how good the jays have been playing. It gives you some a glimmer of hope for this series alone but you know just for that playoff pushes while it just feels like you know the jays. They're destined to get in just the stories that they've been through the past two years. Everything the offense finally clicking like you said and everything clicking as you mentioned actually at the same time and that's what's the biggest part of this is for me is because it just shows how dangerous and lethal of a team this is and of course all these guys hitting home runs every night. It's not going to be sustained for the rest of the season but it just shows the offense regardless of the night or regardless of the situation. They're going to put up runs somehow in some way and you know even going back to what you said of how you said the the blue jays feel like they're in every game they don't just feel like it because they don't just say they they back it up and they backed up more than once this year. You go back to the first home stand when they were back in toronto over the red sox you go back to the oakland game you go back to.

"Gotten to the point where it just feels like like. It doesn't feel real like these are almost like more than video game numbers of what we seen. Just the circumstances of what's happened In the series first of all we all know it was a rough start to the series. And just again that you'd you definitely want to forget. Obviously it was kind of an off night from robbie ray and really the only take away that i think we'll all remember. Look back on and laugh at now. Was just the weird exchange between brandon hyde and robbie ray early on in the game it looked like robbie ray was like almost like confused at one point but i don't know what nobody really knew what the heck was going on. I guess we found out after that there is some sort of miscommunication or the orioles guy. I don't know just paranoid with something. They thought robbie ray was doing robbie ray was talking about how nobody was hitting it. There sliders it was just a bizarre start to the series and obviously a letdown. The only good thing that came out of that night was the red sox and yankees both losing so essentially Nothing really happened. In terms of the standings the only thing that really happened was the mariners and the seattle mariners. An oakland as gaining a game on the jays. And everybody else but that Looks a lot better where you look at it now but just at the time. That's pretty much. The only thing that happened but then of course you go into a double header You know you know that at this point all right the best you can do. Is a series win win three in a row. It was definitely doable. It's definitely what happened. And it doesn't start off good with engine ru having. I think the shortest outing officially as a blue jay to third seven hundred runs his era. Now well over four at four ten or four eleven to be exact and I'm not sure what's going on. We all know we've talked about. If so many times in terms of decline and at this point it's been very inconsistent of him because he's having good starts he's having a bad starts and we know when he has bad starts like they're bad starts. They're not mediocre. They're bad like he gets up bad. And that's exactly what happened on that game. Rostrum blink comes in. After gives up three runs. It just felt like another game that got away from the jays. And then when you're looking at it you're starting to panic a little bit saying now in terms of the baltimore orioles who've lost almost one hundred games the best we're going to get out of this possibly is splitting a series. And that's of course what was going on. It was seven three and then that's things quickly changed. I know danny janssen ever since coming off the continues to hit good especially over his last fifteen days an opiate over fifteen hundred since coming off the injured list in those fifteen days. He's come back and he's hitting the ball really well. Three home runs nine..

"I dug a hard for this question. Because i thought it was a great question. I was like going back ivan. Ivan employed frank Our resident nerd to think back to the nineties and two thousands. Like find me a moment that if the nerds were running things would have been differently and we couldn't really come up with a specific play. The closest thing that i thought of was the nineteen ninety six world series. Mark wohlers versus jim leyritz. The maybe the biggest home run of the yankees ninety s run that got them back in the series and they ended up winning it. And i'm like would they would the nerve let jim leyritz handed hitter face mark. Wohlers a guy who throw ninety eight miles. An hour with a devastating slider sought the best matchup. However they didn't have any other options to pinch hit for him because he hit already pinch come in to catch. After joe girardi started. I was just trying to think of things like that and other things. I thought like what would nerds. How would like nerds. Look at a guy like tony gwynn. Who is like a perennial three sixty hitter. But he was just like really a singles and doubles hitter. He didn't hit many home runs at all they'd be like wow he doesn't have the wrc plus of these guys and it's like well tony gwynn's like one of the best like pure hitters. I've ever seen but they would probably shit all over him. Yeah because he doesn't have the the production the power and the the run scoring production yet. What's going to be what would change. And what wouldn't or what other good moments are created because of the decisions that are made. Because you could look at the dodgers side of things and it could be. That's the one of the best things that happened to them. So you could look you mentioned He mentioned two thousand four. With with dave roberts stealing a bag. I think i'd be okay with that you know. So there's there's a there's a few things you look at it. You could always you could probably find. The grass is greener. That said it's different. It's just it's just very different and to the To the point of diminishing product. The i do believe that because of everything. We've been talking about today. I think a lot of these statistics and a lot of the ways that debt Baseball is evaluated. Today is it actually does take away a lot of the fundamentals and the and what's happening in game. What are the important things because of the big sample size and when you start looking at just a big sample size you start losing. What's happening and you get a sense for what's in game. And what moves the needle in game. What can get a guy out of a slump. What could team out of a slump stealing a base with two outs and a single in the eighth inning to tie game like very much rally team. Fire that team up and you never know what can happen for something like that. That's not a not a situation that would happen right now. So there are the lack of small things in the fundamentals to me are the reason. Why and that's because of what they're looking for. They're looking for production in large sample sizes. I do think it's helped pitching though. I think the pitching has been able to get more specific So i think overall pitching has gotten better but at the same time he'd pulling the pictures out of the game earlier so diminishing because they believe believe maximize velocity and effort for a shorter period of time to get the best results almost the complete opposite of what they look for the offense. The offense is over a large sample size. And and yes while the pitching maybe have a sample size attached to it. It's it's so micro in the moment that that it's it's very much a mind shift in how they think the offense. I mean the the game largely today from a front office standpoint is managed in spreadsheets and algorithms and all these programs and the fundamentals and stuff. Those don't show up in the in the line items on the spreadsheet they show up in the game and they cost teams games or they win team games and right now they're costing the yankees games in. That's why it's just if was the word it's it's just the were hitting home runs right now. She's not fun to watch. And were twelve. Three probably wouldn't be talking about this. No no but but but even if so boone's echo back to boone's comment when you're bang bang you have to fundamentals right. This team hasn't done the fundamentals for for years and they have been banging and it still costs than gives. You can lose games fundamentally even when you're banging because everybody else's banging banging everybody's banging they're all hitting home runs joey win. You'll be banging. It's not unique. Yup all right. Well i have a feeling that. The voice mails on this episode. Are going to be awesome. Cannot wait to hear those. If you guys want to leave a voicemail. They're back for the twenty twenty one season and we may have brought them back at the ideal time. "Nineteen American League Championship Series against the Yankees and after out to they had a a walk off Homer to clinch the American League Championship Series he clutched his collar as he rounded third base and imploring his teammates not to rip his Jersey off because side allegedly is wearing a buzzer underneath the Jersey the telling what pitch is coming and it's real clear evidence when you look at the at the video that he was trying to tell people that you know you still feel don't please don't rip this Jersey up ma'am this could be brutal so then they asked the commissioner you know what's going on with that investigation with the buzzer I are we getting anywhere is anybody admitting do anything wrong here and here is his answer your we go ng talk how would you describe the investigation of the buzzer well the the the buzzer allegation that the five the tape and everything we were fully aware of that when we were working our way through the investigation I think that in a way the the peace that no one appreciates is that we found no evidence not a single witness who could corroborate that their war buzzers being used during the twenty nineteen season indeed that they were doing anything inappropriate during the twenty nineteen season so he so then what's the response within what what's the answer what's the reason why you wanted Jersey ripped off given that the players told us you know chapter and verse about twenty seventeen and chapter and verse about twenty eighteen it does give some credibility to the the denials that were uniforms about the use of buzzers in twenty nineteen can I tell you one hundred percent certain that it didn't happen I know you can never know that you got a you know people tell you what they tell you I I will tell you the evidence on this one slide slapping and a lie detector test on these **** evidence on this issue was is consistent in the direction that nothing was going on as the evidence was consistent in the direction that there was an appropriate behavior and seventeen and eighteen yeah I like that answer either we need a polygraph him you have little leaguers now in California I'm sure around the country who will not use the name Astros during this season who knows how long well that's interesting never thought of that it's a little leaguers don't want to use Astros why there's I think there's two teams I want to say in Fullerton they've already changed their name is that right that's great what I'm mode on the Astros you have little leaguers now in California I'm sure around the country who will not use the name Astros during this season who knows how long what impact is that message send you I think for me personally one of the most troubling pieces of all this this better be good and I hope it's not that little bit T. ballers aren't using Astros jerseys what he says the one of those troubling aspects of it this is got to be good for me personally one of the most troubling pieces of all this was the message that we sent to young people about the game okay that's good that's going to get yeah that's pretty good you know I do believe that our game is special in that it teaches values to young people that serve them well whether they become baseball players or not that's true that's actually true you know baseball is say is you know people think it's just a a bat the ball in the glove and it's not man there is so much strategy that goes on in baseball it's why these your number guys you know these numbers guys that got involved you know with the Oakland Athletics and and those big guys guys became very prominent in the game you know and you know what picture at left handed pitcher versus a right handed batter and vice versa it's just it's there's so much strategy in baseball the you got really really smart to follow it on that level and when you hold that belief I and you see what's what happened here you have to accept the fact that this was a step backwards for us one that we're gonna have to work really really hard to correct yeah I I I I think that it's I looked he's in a horrible position the you know the the actual the commissioners a horrible position because he's got a team it's on fire and there's no easy way to put this out it's gonna be around for a long long time it might be decades right I mean they still talk about the black Sox they might this might be decades where people always associate the Houston Astros with a cheating city and a cheating club and they might even have to move that team to another city and change the name of it I mean it's that bad it really is I know people think about type early when you're talking about you know used as a a rich history yeah they did they did and it's all gone all of it is gone I eve when you think of Nolan Ryan and you know in the Astrodome and the and the Houston Astros it that's over people now when you hear that name all will always associated with cheating always I'm anyway so I'm it be in a live it'll continue and hopefully you know they can't get a handle on its got a text from a friend of mine and she says it says side Hey I'm lucky to catch your show while I'm driving and had to Granada hills little league they definitely decided not to use Astros when the news broke so I had the Astros are gonna have a real tough time I imagine there they might even be forced to sell the team or to change cities or change the name of that team yes this is not going away people are pissed unless the Dodgers we just played the you know that the audio before but let's not pissed off hi Justin Turner is you know MLB this a very mild guy MLB commissioner rob Manfred ad is handling it man friend said he could not punish the players involved because they were granted immunity one question during the investigation he says there are no plans to strip the Astros of their twenty seventeen title because quote asking for a piece of metal back seems like a few tile act but according to Dodgers player Justin Turner and angels player Mike trout not enough was done to reprimand those involved the commissioner didn't do a good job of of of revealing all the facts to us I still think there's some stuff that.

"The Yankees are heavy favorites in the American League as their chief rivals the red Sox are obviously taking a step back they wanted to avoid that luxury tax once again the Astros are damaged by the cheating scandal so the Dodgers and Yankees don't just have all Thursday got MVP candidates when you think about this up and down the lineup bets Ballenger Kershaw LA has that judge Stanton Torah's coal into New but all that talent doesn't mean success in October there's always that risk of running into hot pitching and look what happened last post season the Dodgers loss to the nationals with Strasberg insurers are Yankees filled the Astros with coal Inver lander and some cheating L. but the Dodgers and Yankees are all in they should both win over a hundred games Yankees might put together one of the greatest lines ever and I'm talking about pitching and hitting when you think about it there are the favorites according to Vegas to meet the World Series so for older baseball fans a Dodger Yankee series of the late seventies one forgettable and who knows maybe we'll see that matched up in the World Series very soon let me start with the red Sox with Mookie Betts if you listen to the program you know I Love Me some Mookie Betts I think he's one of the top three at worst top five players but you got a guy who is young you can build around they do have a young nucleus there and they wanted to get rid of David price is that the only way you could get ready David price is thirty four years of age and he's old about ninety six million ours but you gave up Mookie Betts I don't know if the red Sox looked around and said we got a bloated payroll here we're not as good as the Yankees and we might not be as good as the rays yes the rays and maybe that's why they thought okay let's unload these guys and restock the farm system okay that's fine not maybe look at what the Orioles got or did you know what what the Dodgers got with Machado when they when Machado laughter you know when they made that trade like what are you getting in return for some of the star players you're getting minor league players and that's based off potential the possibility here Mookie Betts walks out on the field immediately makes you a better team I know it's going to cost you four hundred million dollars Hey maybe this is just you know fiscal sanity with the red Sox how many times do we look at a team when they sign somebody we go how could you spend that kind of money it seems like we do that quite a bit Phillies we did that the Yankees we've done that with Jim Carlos Stanton the Phillies with Bryce Harper I don't know if we look at Gerrit Cole and say oh my god they spent that kind of money on a pitcher normally you know the Padres with Manny Machado it's rare when we complimented team for getting rid of a player at the right time now the cardinals did that the cardinals did that with Albert pools but I don't know the last time you is a fan went yarris fiscal sanity everybody come on let's go Saturday those goals Saturday we didn't spend any money yeah that doesn't happen very often and I look at the red Sox and I go okay you had an owner who told us not long ago that they weren't going to be doing this and then they did this okay bats to me is a special player he's Mike trout like I wasn't big on the Phillies with what they were spending on Bryce Harper I'm not the biggest Bryce Harper fan but they needed that they wanted that they went out and got it Gerrit Cole that's to the Dodgers should have gotten in my opinion you need pitching your loss rude to Toronto so you got a guy who finished second in the sy young and who did you replace him with that would be my biggest concern with the Dodgers you got your he had a top five Lima you only had one of the better off into teams in baseball you added Mookie Betts okay then that's fine but as we get to postseason what's to come down to how hot is your pitcher and what one last year what one the previous year clutch pitching you're gonna have clutch shooting but when you got one or two starters hammers as I call them that's where you win a World Series you can have a great regular season team and the Dodgers have been a great regular season chain there is so much pressure on this team now there's no excuses now you got bats you got the belt I don't know if your line up is better than the Yankees it's fun to look at those two line ups but man you got some really good the top of the order I got Bette's Seger Turner Ballenger Muncie I got a pretty good line up there by the way Jack Peterson got traded to the angels I don't know if it's a good thing to be that close to a team that might be winning a World Series and you're just down the road there with the angels the angels gonna have probably four five guys who can hit forty or more home runs this year I don't know what else they have there but you know you got the Dodgers they made the move and Mookie Betts and David price are now going to Los Angeles let the pressure begin the Yankees with your call when you go to the Yankees you're used to this you're used to that pressure and we're gonna see L. gear cold you know holds up in the big pressure situation there but they'll be a lot of fun if you say it's the Dodgers and Yankees meeting for the World Series sign me up I'm all in on that but I was just surprised that it felt like the red Sox Rackley acting like they were you know Cincinnati a mid mid market team like a a Pittsburgh now we gotta we gotta should some payroll we got to get rid of that beds kid I you know and that's is says he's gonna test free agency so there are no guarantees here going to the Dodgers are you going to sign a long term deal now he might look around and goes pretty good place to play I don't know about that ball park for how that suits you that's what I'd be curious about he's a great player he's an all around player yeah but you know you play in Fenway it's a little bit different that's a nice little luxury there for right handed batter but the Dodgers went out and got him felt they needed him and well there are a lot of pressure a lot of pressure on teh Roberts now as if they're already.

"The American League champions earned run average of three ninety eight he made thirty three starts the three hundred sixty seven innings he's been described to me in conversations I've had since last night as a as a throwback guy I do number conversations were people city kind of reminds you will remind you of Tom Browning from the standpoint he's a he's a lefty he's a quick worker he's that kind of a bulldog competitor and this is key he's a big ground ball guy perfect for great American ball park he has induced more ground balls than fly balls each of the last three years now he had been miserable in twenty sixteen to twenty seventeen he pitched for Seattle approach for Baltimore he made sixty two starts in those two seasons and earned run average of five and a half and by twenty eighteen he was left to take a minor league deal any took one with the brewers any got hooked up with then brewers pitching coach now red's pitching coach Derrick Johnson and through that came the reinvention so to speak oh boy Miley he he invented a a a meat cutter that he throws more than fifty percent of the time in in the sixteen star to Milwaukee in twenty eighteen with during Johnson's help is earned run average was two fifty seven so then he signed as a free agent that season with the Astros in and did what he did so in two seasons since he started working with Jerry Johnson first started working with him he's gone nineteen and eight with a three fifty two earned run average not bad in fact to give you a little perspective he is a or a plus is one twenty six meeting for the last two years he's been twenty six percent better than the league average that's your fifth starter for the Reds at six million dollars this year now he he did struggle last season in September it kind of changed the optics of the season back he went into September with an ERA of three and then he blew up in the final month and we wound up bloating is earned run average to the three ninety eight a he was poor in one post season appearance last year the Astros did not use him in the World Series he is though durable he's made at least thirty starts in I think seven of his last eight seasons back he's gone thirty two thirty three thirty three thirty to thirty thirty two sixteen and thirty three for his starts at sixteen starts season was twenty eighteen he was dealing with a a bit of a knee injury he is not a big innings eater he's more about who get your five to make his way into the six and then you're probably going to want to go get it I counted up today was thirty three starts this past season fifteen of those did go at least six innings he's also had success small sample size a great American ball park he's made seven starts in now is home park two sixty six ERA two home runs in forty four innings I like it and this is a I I kind of liken this to a to to the front office big picture nod to Derrick Johnson and his philosophy be great at what you're good at the Reds were already good at pitching last season why stop it good if you can get somebody like wait Miley about this rotation Sonny gray Luis Castillo Trevor Bauer entity disco funny wait Miley I would be I would be willing to say right now right six twenty eight on this Tuesday night that is the best starting rotation in the National League central and I would say it would be fair to put them in the conversation among the best pitching staffs rotation wise in the National League now I I smirked children because it's the obvious question what happens to Tyler valley he's it he he certainly depth for the rotation the red use nine different starters last year they used ten the year before the U. sixteen the year before that you never the less is that what red season you get get through season using only five starters and that your was tied Redmond they had to use for one star I can't believe I just remember his name and they're certainly I do Tyler valleys frustrating that there is no reason to give up on a twenty five year old to continue to work with Derrick Johnson in the major league level or go back to triple a and keep working on things there he did get better across the board last year it is hits allowed per nine innings his walks his strikeouts in his homers again he's only twenty five it also consider some other the back is in rotation pictures and their contracts this season tenor role are got two years it twenty four million from the jays I'd rather have we Miley reports Sello who's been over five zero eight three straight years got ten million for this year for the Mets Kevin go husband who really did little for the Reds and before they moved on for me he had nine million for the giants this season I take my leave the over all three of those deals and I like this they could have been the end they could have sat back and hoped on Wade Miley or on a a Tyler valley instead they went out and did with Miley it in that's when one of my criticisms hoping on guys hoping on too many guys needed to get got do something to get guys who have more of a proven track record you have a better sense of what you're gonna get and this deal is good enough financially as I alluded to with mark if it doesn't work out the dollar amount is in no way shape or form gonna be an albatross around the organization and at the pay roll I like it I'll take it but the red still have work to do they still need an impact bat they still need at least two bull pen arms we'll get into that ahead so the rates get back to work up next need a last minute gift ideas stocking stuffers for Reds fans I've got you covered to reject knew some of the rates newsradio seven hundred WLW traffic.

"American League division series on ESPN radio and ESPN. Jim will be here from Houston where we are watching something very special tonight and that is very cool on the bound for the Houston Astros the raised to their credit this is still very much a game into this best of five series Astros won game one yesterday now the rays trying to bounce back but down one nothing tile Tucker gets the second picture that I Diego Casteel here in the bottom of the fifth the pregnant home run the only run of the game Tucker takes low from Casteel it's ball one. with your call I hope everybody appreciates. what we have seen all year long and what we see again here tonight and who knows maybe it's just the start of a postseason run for Gary Cole. his first playoff started twenty nineteen. does he has just been awesome use a fast ball for a strike to Kyle Tucker right on the inside it's one and one eighth the best pitcher in the sport has been all year and when you're talking about ten strikeouts now for the tenth consecutive game and tonight just to look at three came on fastballs foreign curveballs three on sliders we've only he's only pitched five innings. this deal throws and Mrs Reagan side almost hit Kyle Tucker with ninety nine it's two one one it is a free agent the end of the year and if you want me to be conservative in gas eight years that thirty five million a year that would put it to eighty Scott forces.

"The American League you're playing the Yankees Emmaus songs and their plan who ever thinks they're content to Minnesota in the central that to their their plan for the post season right now it's brilliant this is got see people can talk about what this will do by the way all the people talk about launch angle launch angle Vince in October launch angle at the top on a rotation Verne lander and drink tea and cold are you kidding me this is a great move by Houston standing ovation did not just starting pitcher the **** have three great starting pitchers if their health insurers frost program corpsman but they don't have any relief pitchers right Houston has hitting use it as a great top of the rotation up when very lander went there a couple years ago I don't know that he lost any games at all for the rest of the season he'll be cool right this has the exact same feeling I really do to this extent this is aimed at the Yankees this is the end of the Dodgers I mean you look now at Houston and and you look at the Yankees web trouble with their starting pitching for all the hitting they have I don't know that there's enough tending to be cold Verlander and drinking that I'm not sober so I don't think so nothing pitching top nation I don't think that beat at bet every time over launch angle and the Dodgers if we get that far with talking about World Series play Tony we'll talk about a team the case anybody from scoring well but the Dodgers have their defense of troubles they do starting pitching addresses that they terrorized but the Dodgers have starting pitcher and the Dodgers have power.

"When they plan nationally parks it's just long it's long out war I worn its welcome it doesn't make sense anymore these kids do not eat in high school they do not have in college they do not hit in the minor leagues and then I come up here and all of a sudden I got a game in a nationally park they're gonna go play Cincinnati next week and now you got a hit and run the bases and the lead and do all the things you're supposed to do to help the team win and you literally never do it except for in that situation I mean it's asinine it's really ridiculous there's no there's no justification at all for having American League pitchers hit none except for they don't have an answer so we make the rules you people just watch anyway what are you gonna do about it we're gonna have met because we can't give the American League team a DH and make the National League team have their pitcher hit we can't do that so we'll just put these guys at risk for convenience sake because we don't have another answer we don't have any other way to get around this we want our teams to play each other and we don't want to put either league at a disadvantage but we chose to put the American League at a disadvantage.
