Fresh update on "american football league" discussed on Puty's World Cup Podcast
"It was just i mean we talked on the phone like plenty of times facetime like we really talked about so i made sure shot wasn't totally ambled into something i didn't want to be a part of but yet we So we drove from prague on his name which is like on the border of austria czech republic. Small club second tier kind of idea. I came in halfway through the season but my ideal was like yo. If i can have a really good season here and then i could maybe a first division check team which like the first division check There's like three really good teams. And then there's a huge dropoff sure we're think levels probably somewhere between lesson you so i saw a good fit for me But our season went went to shit. Dude like august. I guess some one of the owners of our team or something like eighty thousand dollars on a preseason match where we love through the game and then there was this huge investigation with teams of guys. Were getting paid. I was like what the flux going on. I've got paid like a month like a couple of guys. Poking bro this guy that than it's all fucked and i'm like oh craves fucking to the best of so so. The season ended there. We came in last place got relatives. Brutal brutal are fans that wanted to like slater throats because of the bet. So here's the best part. So the best part is that. I'm thinking i'm going to country that like in a city. That's like crazy about soccer. They had the only american football team in czech republic in that city. And it was way fucking cool. Shallow and my second day i got to training. And there's fucking american football lines on the field. And i'm like you have got to be fucking kidding like this cannot be happening here like i came here for a reason to get away from her and football is in the cross live and then i come to czech republic ab played for the fucking city. That has an american football team. I couldn't fucking believe it. San like we believe it's like so some some amount there in glove through an american football game and they have no idea how american football But i was talking to some of the guys in. They thought it was cool. I went to wisconsin. 'cause they love you know college football on they follow it like crazy over there But they they were one of the teams that play in the austrian american football league. You don't have austrian. There's one american football league in europe. It's in austria sore. Who used to be called europe right. Yeah i sorta so it was like Honestly one of the worst games of american football see my whole life. Could you played for them for the american football. I could've kicked for sure. I mean i would have thought that that would be the one position that that team would head covered like they would have a kicker right. I mean they had some big bats of big boys out there but it was just slide. Dude my worst nightmare all over again like you know as a soccer player just living in the shadows of american football players and basketball baseball players especially in college. Addison especially yeah yeah and then. Of course i come to come to europe overshadowed once you've by some can donate american football team and you guys got relegated so but so bad bladder bad there but maybe the good was that they didn't have sort of those ultra diehard fans that were just like looking 'cause i had had oh you know like we've had guys on that have been played in europe like had like ultras wanted to kill like their teammates. Yeah you know like that was not the dynamic that you know you get that with like a sparta prague or like you know some of those bigger clubs at checkbook. We didn't have any debt. We some light med out there in the country and czech republic. Like it's it's it's different man. Like my first day training there was some pedestrian who looked like a track coach was caught across. We had a nice skating. Bills cut across the field in disguise. Across in our coach was like said something chocolate cake. Walk around with the fuck. The guy flicked them off so we stopped warming up our coach like walks forty yards. Decide the middle and you start to like beating shit. All my teammates start running and i'm thinking like they're all running as i started with. I think we're you know we're going to break up a fight dude. My teammates started taking this guy like in the face. Shit on sydney's my Birthday trent and i'm sitting there we haven't even started practice and our coach and our team had like beat the shit out of this trap coach and they were like no repercussions like nobody got in trouble is like he blew the whistle. We went back to training like one gave up. Dude everybody did they shake hands afterward you know he got up and he just laughed and like that was it but do look the czech republic thing it was it was messy but it also. It gave me a lot of alone time to reflect. I had a. I had to work really hard to kind of fight. The american bias right like the american soccer bias that i think a lot of European countries have over there so like you know. They didn't give a shit that i played with them. Alaska with any of these guys like they thought it was very fortunate.
Arizona Cardinals' Kliff Kingsbury on Hot Seat?
"All right my friend. We've covered three quarters of the national football league and we save kind of the best for last as far some of the most competitive divisions in the national football league so we may as well starting out in my neck of the woods relatively speaking with the arizona cardinals who find themselves pain as six to one hundred dollars to win the nfc west. This season their win. Total sits at eight and a half. You do have to lay a buck in a quarter if you wanna go. Under that total third season in the valley of the sun for cliff kingsbury last two years of tailed off in the latter. Half of the schedule. When you look at how this team performed. They lost six out of their final nine games. Second year in a row as we said they fallen apart down the stretch. Arizona elite league and penalties and you begin to worry about the decision making enga- management that oak liffey boy has shown since taking over last winning season for this franchise came back in two thousand fifteen where they were pummeled by the panthers in the playoffs but point differential last year plus forty three best amongst teams. That didn't finish with a winning record. Missed out a postseason berth. By virtue of a tiebreaker is the chicago bears edge. Them out schedule though starts all away from home where they'll play three or four on the highway to kick things off when you look at the arizona cardinals pain. We know it's all about the offense but they've also made some pretty good editions at least in my opinion on the defensive side as well arizona's tough for me to gauge. And it doesn't help that. They're playing in this division. Which is probably the most competitive and i don't really know i'm sold on kingsbury yet. And we've mentioned this number a couple times over the years but i think it's really interesting because it's mind blowing. You can get an nfl job with a resume like kingsbury. He was twenty three and forty at tack if you remove. Fcs opponents and kansas from his record. So it's really interesting from that
Brooklyn Nets vs. Los Angeles Lakers to Highlight NBA's Christmas Day Schedule
"A report that Christmas Day is gonna be. It's gonna happen at December. 25th like every year Lakers nets? Yeah. One thought on that game. NBA Got it right. I mean, all the games. You got. Bucks versus the Celtics. You've got Golden State versus Phoenix. You've got the Knicks versus the land and the Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers are the highlight game in the middle of that schedule. They very rarely get Christmas Day games wrong. When it comes to the NBA did very really get that wrong because even late at night, you may not be interesting those teams, but you're going to pay attention because nothing is going to be on. They're not trying to combat the National Football League on Christmas Day, but the N B A. They usually get it right on Christmas Day, And once again, they knocked it out of the
Report: Deshaun Watson Trade Talks Heating up Between Eagles and Texans
"Reports are out there going back to the National Football League. Shawn Watson, right now glorified practice safety for the Houston Texans. They didn't now say he's been dealing with ankle injuries. Wink, wink, nudge nudge. That's why had they have not been out their quarterback in any kind of practice that if it's Simmons I saw that maybe just maybe. The Philadelphia Eagles, who have not committed to Jalen hurts, Nick Syriana, the head coach, say Right now there's no QB one QB two, but he's done some nice things. Reports out of the Philadelphia Eagles could be interested in to Shawn Watson. This may be the worst thing to do to a brand new coach is to bring in that distraction that has not been settled in that city that loves the e A. G. L E s eagles If they're even thinking about this Regarding to Shawn Watson.
The Single Most Important Thing to Do Before a Fantasy Draft
"Just want to go over a kinda some strategies. Things some tips and tricks that you guys do leading into drafts. I have a process that starts right after the nfl draft. And it's creating my own projections so a lot of that goes into that is what is target shared gonna be like what is yards per area. You're gonna be what is yards per completion gonna be to kind factor into making my own rankings and then i compare those to see if they are somewhat in line with you. Know a lot of my favorite experts some way off and i have valid reasoning for that so my process as it's okay to be way off on that because that's what i show But then like actually going into drafty kind of depends on where the draft is. site has different. Adp's if you really notice it. So sleeper espn yahoo. Every single one is gonna have somewhat different adp's so kind of get a feel of where players are falling in there. Doing some mock drafts to kind of see there and then determine my tears from there. Yeah you touched on everything. I was going to touch on. Tears is the most important thing for me. That's what i spent a lot of my my prep time doing when it comes to actual rankings like. Yeah i don't look at one specific citing say all right. This is the holy bible of fantasy football league off them. I tried to compile as much data as possible. I do a lot of my own projections in then. I kind of combine everything together. With where i think they're gonna fall but tears. Creating tears is the single most important thing heading into a fantasy draft
NFL Warns Teams of Penalties, if Unvaccinated Players Impact Schedule
"And the National Football League, encouraging its players to get vaccinated by enacting new penalties for games Miss due to Covid 19 outbreaks. The NFL, sending out a memo. If there is an outbreak outbreak and a game has to be cancelled. The team that caused the outbreak will forfeit the game, but both teams players will lose their game
NFL Bans Dwight Schar From Future Ownership Interest in Any NFL Team
"Minority owners coming in at some point, but he is the he is the sole owner after buying back the minority shares from Dwight Schar, Fred Smith and Bob Rothman. And what was a very contentious uh, I think And this is that I don't know if it's been publicly put out like this, But I think it was a takeover attempt by the minority owners who were looking for a greater evaluation on on their sale of their minority piece, and all of this negativity started to pop up. In the Washington Post started to pop up and and social media. These accusations were thrown out there, all of which, incidentally, Dan Snyder has claimed responsibility for even though he was not directly implicated in any of those things. Um, And the news today is twofold. One that Daniel Snyder is it was fined $10 million. At least the Washington football team was fined $10 million. The clarity on that is that $10 million will go to charities, which which Tania, his wife and Dan will choose. So it's a $10 million fine, but it'll all go to an important cause. The other thing. That I think is not insignificant in this is that Dang Dwight Schar, who was one of those minority owners, and a lot of people believed was involved in the smear campaign on on Daniel Snyder has been banned for life. From the NFL. So, uh, while we while we want to vilified, um some of the things that went on inside the Washington organization, the the campaign It was put out to embarrass and try to force. Mr Snyder to Snell also came to light and again, I'll read it, I'll say it again. Dwight Schar, who was a minority owner, has been banned for life from the National Football League. Take that of what you will. Um, but that's not the story. So a lot of people there's some misconceptions out
USFL Becomes Latest Spring Football League to Announce Return
"And in football. The USFL is back. Fox Sports and Brian Woods, founder of the Spring League, have announced that the United States Football League will return to action in the spring of 2022. The new league will consist of eight teams next season. It will be a direct competition to the XFL,
Urban Meyer Really Believes Tim Tebow Can Help Jacksonville
"Believes Tim Tebow could make the team Give me one thought on Tim Tebow. Why? I mean, I The only reason that this is happening is because every Mars the head coach of the Jacks with Jaguars in urban Meyer was not to the National Football League. Tim Tebow would not be entertaining anything like this, so if he wants have a chance to play a new position. Play for a man that if he could adopt him, Tebow, he would when it comes to urban Meyer, but that's my one thought. Why Tim Tebow? Why?
Voice of the Bison Jeff Culhane Speaks Highly of Trey Lance
"Hank, who is the voice of the Bison, North Dakota State Web trade, played Is with us and glad to have him. Jeff. Thanks for coming on. How are you? Hey, Mark, I'm great. Appreciate you guys reaching out and it's a pleasure of Sakia really appreciate being on the show. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, we're excited to have you. I think you know the average football fan. Is maybe still just starting the process of getting to know Trey, Lance and 40 Niner fans. You know if it don't Jeff, it's only been 45 days a year since they've realized Oh, wait a minute. We're in this Derby, so so tell everybody about Trey Lance. Well, I'll tell you what. Trey Lance is one of the more impressive young men that I've had a chance to cover and get to know and be around. It comes from a great family. In fact it father Carlton spent a short period of time I believe in training camp with the San Francisco 40 Niners after his college career was over at Southwest Minnesota State and Marshall, Minnesota. So there's a little bit of A brief connect there even though Carlton did not spend a ton of time in the organization. But Trey, you know the conversation about training. Lance is going to come back to his Experience that's going to come back to playing at the FCS level Mark, but I think what what stands out to me is one He checks all the boxes physically, and I've had the The opportunity to be around college football programs like the Brassica in West Virginia and cover power five in the Big 12 in the Big 10 and as he seen a C C And Trey. Lance has all the physical tools you need to succeed in the National Football League. But more importantly, mark He's a great young man. He's

Video games for good
"Listeners it's mike schneider and i'm brett molina and welcome back to talking tech. As with many other events canceled due to the covid nineteen pandemic. there is no south by south west festival in austin texas. This year. That is true. But there's a virtual south by southwest going on online through saturday march twentieth. And i got a chance to participate. Let me tell you a little bit about it. I've been scheduled to moderate a panel last year gaming for good but the festival got cancelled entirely when we knew there was going to be a virtual festival this year the company that sponsored the panel skills decided to go ahead and do it so we recorded our discussion over zoom in late february and it was really enlightening and very made me very hopeful about things. Here there's a story. On tech usa today dot com. You can read that if you want. If you really wanna watch the panel and do all the other fun things at south by southwest. Has you can still buy a ticket to the festival. There's a link in my story for that too. But here's the basics. I learned from from the panel. The panelists we had three of them. there's a program called gamers outreach that provides video game carts that means it has like a secure tv and a game console on. It's it's either hook to wireless or however they do in the hospital in two hundred thirty children's hospitals around the us the founder zach. Weigel began the program when he was a high schooler halo tournament. The got cancelled He'd organiz the tournament but public safety official voice concerns about the high school cafeteria being used for a hobby. That was quote corrupting the minds of america's youth in quote. The guy said so to show the gamers from it meant well the next year weigel try it again and raise money for a local children's hospital with that resulting tournament part of that he learned. The hospitals often have trouble keeping kids occupied when they're recovering from treatment in their rooms so that led him to begin having online fundraising to get these. You know cards game carts into hospitals all over the country if you wanna get involved gamers outreach as gamers forgiving event online this weekend and there's a lincoln my story or you can go to gamers forgiving dot org also this weekend skills which is spelled s. k. i. l. l. z has a gaming for good tournament to benefit the american red cross. You might have heard about skills. They they became a publicly traded company in december twenty twenty and last month. They signed a multi year deal with the national football league to create a mobile game in any sports community around the game. That's gonna come out later this year. Basically did a crowd source thing to get developer to find a way to create a cool game. Play on mobile devices Anyway what skills does they connect millions of players all over the world to compete on about five thousand mobile games including solitaire. Cube and blackout bingo. These these are on android devices and they've had passed charity online events. Where your entry fees to compete you know go towards Charities such as american cancer society world wildlife fund and the nwa. You can see information about this weekend's events in the app itself against s k i l l z and it's on ios and android or. You could find the lincoln my stories
Some Capitol Hill Lawmakers Back Amazon Workers' Attempt To Unionize
"Nearly six thousand amazon employees who work at a warehouse in bessemer alabama are voting by mail on whether to unionize. If they do this will be the first union amazon facility in this country. Here's jennifer bates. Who works there. I keep butterflies and butterflies. Normally come to calm me but hey this is my stomach faithful. It seems like it's getting bigger and bigger full of butterflies. Because there's no break in. Think i don't know how kogo nerve wracking. The election ends later. This month and i should mention. That amazon is a financial supporter of npr. But we cover them like any other company. Some lawmakers support the union. Including senator marco marco rubio or republican and of course president biden also michigan congressman andy levin earlier this month. He and a group of democrats traveled to bessemer. Good morning congressman. Good morning noel. How are you good thanks. What did amazon employees. They're tell you about why they want to unionize. Well you know a union election so often are about basic dignity and that was really true here. I was shocked to learn what it's really like in there They work in a facility. That's like fourteen football fields and it can take ten minutes to walk to a break room. They've to half hour breaks in a ten hour shift so they might get effectively ten hours to eat lunch be by the time they walk there and back lot of them. Don't feel like they can go to the bathroom. Except on their break. And they're watched and quantified every second they're monitored visually a listening geo positioning and every second they're not on task is measured and if they have a certain number of minutes off task in a week they could be fired sometimes might not even be a person involved it was really kind of dehumanizing to me. Here's the argument. That amazon makes amazon. Says look our employees. Earn fifteen dollars an hour which is a good wage in a place like bessemer alabama. Some of them have health benefits. 401k's essentially they have got the benefits that a union would get them. They don't need a union. What do you make of that argument. I'd like to tell that argument to any national football league player and the actor and a movie any presenter on major television or radio networks all of whom have a union every single one. The idea that unions are only for people who are the most poorly paid. It's ridiculous the one person who is unionized. That every airline is the pilot so this argument is ridiculous. These workers deserve a seat at the table to discuss a safe workplace. During a pandemic they deserve a seat at the table to have a workplace. That's human and a real person can go to and great make fifteen dollars. An hour amazon should pay them a lot more the owner of the company. The main owner had his wealth increase. Seventy eight billion dollars during a pandemic and they're about pay jeff bezos in their bag bragging about paying people fifteen dollars an hour there. What's wrong with workers having their own organization just that they can have input in their in in their work lives. And that's all these people are seeking is a seat at the table during this trip to alabama that you went on your colleague congressman jamaal. Bowman said this doesn't stop with amazon. He mentioned lift. Uber tesla and walmart as well. What is the ultimate goal here. The goal is for workers to be able to form a union and bargain collectively. If they darn well please. Noel were down to six percent of private sector workers in this country needing union. We're gonna pass the proactive in the congress and the president is going help. Lead into new era when workers can have a say at the table. It's long pastime in this country. Michigan congressman andy levin. Thank you
Wide Receivers Were the Order of the Day on Franchise Tag Day
"Today was tagged a in the National Football League. We found out stars that we're getting the franchise tag, which may preclude them from Changing teams, and we found out some players that didn't get the franchise tag. Wide receivers were the order of the day and Alan Robinson gets the franchise tag. Chris Godwin gets the franchise tag will have more on Godwin and Brady coming up in a few minutes because this is a really big deal. But now who do you go after right? Who's the number one wide receiver you go after, and The guy who was going to be the beneficiary of this. And look, we've talked about who the three best wide receivers were gonna be in free agency this year, right? You and I did this about a month ago, and it was Robinson and it was Godwin and it was Kenny Golladay. You got it? And I know that that some people are going to be a little nervous. About Golladay. Oh, he was hurt. Last year, he was on pace for his best year in 2020 until he got hurt. I am so in on Kenny Golladay. Getting hurt last year doesn't concern me. You know anytime, you miss games, whether it's zits calf or it's a hamstring. It's not that big a deal right? And it's not something where wait. There's a big injury and maybe they're not going to be as fast as they once were. It's not that big a deal. I go after Kenny Golladay because he is everything. That a team's gonna want in a wide receiver. He can be the big target in the red zone. He's someone is going to stretch the defense. He is terrific. Listen. Matthew Stafford has been blessed with good wide receivers and great wide receivers his time in Detroit before he got traded to Los Angeles and Kenny Golladay. Is that good? I mean, he's going to get paid and He's the big winner today with the other guy's getting franchised and Kenny Golladay is going to get a lot of money and rightfully so, because he is extremely talented. I love the kid. Congratulations to him. Not only will he get out of Detroit and whatever the next phase of their world is, but he's going to get a mountain of cash to do it.
Maia Chaka becomes first Black woman official in NFL history
"What she thought when she got the call she said yes and she's our person of the week tonight. The history made the nfl announcing maya shock. Thirty eight years old from virginia beach has become the first black female official in the league's history. Maya has been a college football official for years and for the xfl and when not on the field. She's teaching at risk at home. In virginia beach. It gives those girls opportunity to see okay. I see my teacher work with some people that don't look like her. And maybe that gives me opportunity look work with some people that don't look like the also today. Maya joins sarah thomas who broke the nfl gender barrier as the first female official in two thousand fifteen the first woman to officiate the super bowl. And right here maya. Hi david telling us about the moment. She got that call and so excited to be a member of the national. Football league officiating. Staff i'll always remember that day. My response was. I think i'm getting punked. She wasn't tonight. Maya and her message as long as you put it into work and you have a strong work ethic and you strive for greatness and you strive to get better than all your dreams and goals and aspirations will always come true. We love it. We choose maya shock. We'll be looking for her on the
Twitch's Recent Sports Properties Show Longterm Plan for the Platform
"On Sports properties and recently we've seen big moves towards that goal. I'm a dream since the Esports minute from E Sports Network, which is of course the home for Esports now will always be the platforms origination. But clearly the platform has been evolving firstly. There is a massive rise in just chatting as a category and in a lot more casual games and politicians using the platform. So there's that Evolution but there's also the evolution towards traditional Sports and we've seen this as well during the time when Twitches found Newfound competition, there are major leagues and major creators that are moving off platform over the last two years while the mixer experiment Network YouTube live has snatched up the CDL and o w l will also grabbing some big streamers in the process, but I honestly don't think twitch really cares that much they still are the dominant force in the mark. And command the largest audiences plus they have these grander plans. This isn't really a super controversial take twitch has been experimenting with more traditional sports events on the platform for the last few years. Most notably Thursday football games Coast trained with creators from the last few weeks two pieces of news have shown Twitches interest in traditional Sports and how it's continuing one was FIBA and the other was the kickoff of the fan control football game. Let's start with viva viva is the international basketball association the Federation dial international basketball amateur is where the FIBA acronym came from and now it's just the international basketball association today. They signed a multi-year deal with twitch people as far away from the NBA when it comes to viewership or relevance, but it does around the qualifying tournament for basketball at the Olympics as well as the bass World Cup and the World Cup and Hoops is definitely not the same as the World Cup in soccer, but it's still an important Sports property as part of the deal with twitch feeble broadcast 600 hours of basketball games on Twitch every year wage. Also be lighting up deals with Co streamers and creating more interactivity during broadcasts that interactivity is what twitch could offer and is also makes the fan control Football League pretty unique. The FCF is a new property that is not a few weeks on Twitch to pretty good viewership. It's cool because fans call the plays live during the game literally they vote on them and then the team runs them fans also have control over branding and player decision as well. The FCF utilizes Twitches ability for interactivity to basically play Madden in real life. Even Johnny Manziel is in the league for now. These are basically see tears Sports properties, but they show a month for twitch going forward the next time the meteorites come up for one of the major sports leagues Twitches definitely going to be having discussions. They've already cut in by having some of the NFL

Rivers played for Los Angeles, Los Angeles and San Diego charges for 16 seasons before Ending his career in Indianapolis. Rivers ranks fifth in NFL history was 63,440 yards passing. The eight time Pro bowler also ranks fifth in touchdown passes. With 421.
Packers to face Rams after 'Super Wild Card Weekend'
"After a highly entertaining super wild card weekend in the NFL. The Packers know their opponent for Round two. It'll be NFC North against NFC West on Saturday is the Packers welcome in the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round of the playoffs? Will also be a matchup of strength versus strength. Green Bay enters the postseason with the highest scoring offense in the NFL during the regular season. The Rams scoring defense was also best in the National Football League.
Philadelphia Eagles to start Jalen Hurts at QB over Carson Wentz
"Jalen hurts time in philadelphia and jalen hurts will make his first. Nfl start sunday against the new orleans. Saints so welcome to the league young man you go against a really good carson wentz back up her and while this seems crazy to all of us it's also kind of crazy to doug peterson i don't take carson wentz out of it. I didn't expect us to be in this situation back in april. So let's just start there. Listen everybody around jalen or around. Carson has to has to elevate their game. We can't do this. They can't do this alone right. They can't they can't do that. It's impossible to to attack. You know an opponent would just one guy so But i fully expect our guys. I play hard and do everything they can to try and win along perfectly clear here what's become crazy about. This is not the way that all of this went down because it became very obvious that a quarterback change needed to be made. But just the fact that here we are in twenty twenty and we'll probably see tastes hill against jalen hurts in this game i key. Let's start with you. What do you think of the eagles finally making this new well. It's about time. I think we you know a lot of the media around and been talking about this for weeks on of weeks but as they say better late than never and i think it's jalen hurts his job to lose and i'm talking about long term. I think when you look at the situation. And i've been around a lot of quarterbacks in my time in organizations and when you say here's a guy who has a opportunity on a two to three games sample that he could take this job and make it his own. He cannot be coursing wins. What i mean by that is he cannot play like carson with. He has to play like the jalen hurts. That was drafted in top fifteen picks in the national football league. That guy that we saw at oklahoma the guy that we saw a brief time in alabama. If he does that and he can ignite this offense. Then it's his job to lose. Come next off season. I think the philadelphia eagles are looking for the same things. I think when you look at it they say okay. If jalen does what he's supposed to do we go into the offseason with a quarterback battle. Ota's as many camp training camp. Give the up to carson wentz. Because that's what we're gonna do because you follow the money and then you put carson carson wentz carson jalen carson with a short lease. You say you got two to three games to prove yourself and if not we go snatch twenty one is hurts. His team were done which it. That is the way you do it.
"american football league" Discussed on The World of Phil Hendrie
"And they they. You know what? They just went road they retired on active duty mandate just they went road on me Shit. Well where you count on that or something I, it was because at the time. I just come to America and I was living in Boston Massachusetts and I was a huge I was a huge Viking Fan. And why we Viking Fan I did want to be a Boston Patriot Fan. But someone told me the vikings were going to be American football team and they did not become an AFL team that they all of a sudden ran out of guts at the eleventh hour and they threw in with the NFL and that meant guess who joined the American Football League? Oakland Oakland it was they got the Oakland Raiders, and of course, the Oakland raiders have been in their own way a much much legendary team than the Vikings. Well I wouldn't say that I would because guess who's one super bowls guess who hasn't Oh shit. A father. Well, that's a good point. So the the Vikings today were winners and the Oakland raiders were winners and the Kansas City chiefs were winners today as they defeated I believe they defeat the lands or not. But I don't know I'm looking into right now. There was a fumble of the play and the Vikings picked up the ball and ran in for a touchdown I have no idea. It looks to me like the chiefs one game. But here we are in the third quarter three minutes left the pass beautiful pass thereby whoever that guy is the quarterback right and now here we go twenty, seven, twenty-three, the Lions score at Touchdown Detroit wait a minute twenty, seven thirty here come to look at us the game's not over. "The they were the top four teams atop in offense and scoring the total offense and scoring with four teams played over the weekend. So here's here's an example. What are you talking about top four offense is we're in the conference championship game. So who wins championships off on offense, gay, congratulations? That's how they got into the playoffs. But regardless of the fact anyways ears, here's another idea because you want to test out the whole overtime rules in football. You've got what is the the all American football league or something starting up like not too long after the Super Bowl wraps up tested with that see how it works out with them. Might be what's CFL's overtime rule down? I don't pay attention to Canadian seem to pay attention when reviewing pass interferences Mr. saints fan. He goes that came from an ESPN show air in America. I'm gonna have to separate these two later. Let's go to Sean in Midland, Sean. How are you today? Sean you with us. Yeah. Sean how you doing today? Actually. Okay. But yeah, I may. Two. I for one don't agree with those changes the rules because that's why you have a fever off everything every Easter. You don't get that at all. You let me. We already have the whole back in sports pilot, everything suggest it all the time. It's football. That the. Rose. You're not supposed to give them that. Because of the fact that they are both now. Professionals that there. Yeah. I mean, I don't I mean, I don't know. I don't know them being pro somehow makes a difference. I mean, it's football is football. And you've got pros on the other side of the field. And the the rules are the rules are designed to favour offenses. And they the four best teams in the NFL this year where the four teams in the playoffs here, and they're all four best offenses. So I mean, I understand the argument look while you're out there to play defense. But I don't I don't know. I mean, it's a coin toss. And you've you've designed football to favor the offense. And then you somehow in these moments be like, well, if you played great defense you find a way. Well, I don't know. That's true. It's not like, I mean, you know, who. Back. Some MRs defense wins championships. We didn't get to see what the patriots defense. Look like in overtime. We didn't get to see them. They didn't have a good year. Could have had a terrible defense. They could add the worst defense. Scored. I you bailed out the patriots defense because they didn't have to play it. Because they. Sofia now, which is stupid. The fact that a coin toss deciding who wins a game is stupid. Stupid or not. But I I feel like. In our football in the NFL. You actually get everything. Possess the ball is that defense does what they are supposed to do. But you don't know. But you don't get both teams a chance to possess the ball. You literally only give one team a chance possess the ball. If it scores a touchdown. You don't give it the chance against New England's defense defense. Didn't do what it was supposed to do. And they still won. And think about this. If a defense does what it's supposed to do for the patriots that even those we're supposed to do for the patriots didn't even go a goal overtime Brady. Literally took. With like thirty seconds to go thirty nine. Yeah. Right down the field and scored so see to me showing your argument gets a little bit weaker in the fact that the different steps up. But neither one of those defenses was doing anything worth a damn. And so you essentially rewarded one defense. The patriots by not having them have to play. You know what I mean? Me..

Let let's go finally to a new element where adding Marcel. That's what we look around the network allure we gonna kick the table. So you know, I when I go home all day, I'm watching are infants one show. So one thing I noticed from our own Colin cowherd took a shot on air Rogers. Take a listen to this show. I mean, I know we love Aaron Rodgers, and I know he's handsome and cool, and he's got a better razor than Andrew luck. I get that. I mean, I get that, but you know, it's funny who choose to defend and who we choose to hammer. Aaron Rodgers has had a mardi gras of fun. He's had a surplus of talent compared to Andrew luck. Henry luck is still looking for his first decent offensive lineman. He's still looking for his first seven years. No Pro Bowl offense lineman Aarons had four. Y'all agree with Colorado deserves criticism than look. That's I dealt with cowherd for longtime. He loves Andrew luck loves it and looks for any way possible to defend him. I'm not sure I can go here with him though that somehow air rod who has a Super Bowl right needs to be treated. The way Andrew luck is who doesn't have a Super Bowl. Yeah, using facts to try and support it theories that if what the theory is support defects, the facts is this Andrew luck not even close to air Rogers. No one ever is sitting there saying, other than those who theorized that he will be better air Rogers. This seal saying Andrew Luxton. That conversation is of the echelon. We can't go there. This is bad because era Raja's does is more Christians than he gets because he at times divisive at times is not working well with others, but Andrew luck nearly needs to get destroyed in terms of what we thought he was and rebuilt. Would he is which is damn good, but not this all Tom great into making this not happening. This reminds me 'cause cowherd loves Andrew. I just know that it reminds me I had a love affair and still do with Jeff, George because we grew up together and there's nothing he could do on the football to feel that couldn't defend. There's there's no excuse. I wouldn't make for any shortcoming that he had or could defense. And that's still goes on to this day. But you know, I'm gonna have a word with coward about this. When we talked to nine will say, man, you doing too much you ways that went in there. Sometimes we force it. I get it. I love the clippers and I'm gonna try and make it. Tom, I get the void. Right. Thank you. Dr now. Great job. Today we're talking about drew Brees Peyton Manning's all time, passing yard record last night in a blowout win over the Redskins. Greatest twenty four character. Twenty-three in authenticity. A ninety. Three total. Yeah. Hard to pick any issues with this man. Ninety three total out the hall was a little low maybe because of me, no one drew Brees from day one and going to his wit wet in shutout to it. But my dog ninety six. I mean, this dude is amazing every single level. There's one thing about drew Brees that is out there. And that's also the name of his recent biography autobiography. Call the dancing bear my eighteen years in the trenches of the AFL and NFL and after starring in the university of debris ASCA corn husker program in the late nineteen fifties. Rob MC dole was one of the first group of players to be a duly drafted by both the NFL and for the first time ever the AFL and we get into the stories of. Of of both of those leagues and in particular for Ron, a a very compelling and solid career, especially with the Buffalo Bills where as you just heard in that clip from the the awesome, multi chapter history called full color football. "At the unique protection that may most of the shall we say major historical sports in this country have had protection from uh and you know you make the question the argument it keeps coming back again and again uh the protection of such when a restraint of trade uh you know in other industries seems to somehow have special treatment when it comes to pro sports yeah and no you know the the only sport that really can make a really great kate free and i trust exemption of baseball and even that there some question on if that was actually pet whether it was whole would hold up in essentially holdup because uh there's been no counter ruling to it so uh baseball for one that has the actual antitrust exemption and you had the nfl going around uh in after the us if l folded that thing that you know without an antitrust exemption they'll be no expansion the they were blatantly publicly trying to strongarm congress into an antitrust exemption or they were going to withhold further would expansion teams it shows you the emphasised that they placed on it after this us afeltra because it it exposed a weakness and that weaknesses the the nfl was accused of predatory practices of actively trying to stop the usfl from forming and succeeding which is something the nfl always has done the nfl did that to the american football league it went in in the stolen minnesota vikings ownership from the american football league forcing them to set up a team in oakland.

"Segue because in the sort of the the journey in the history and stephane will sort of ask some other sort of a procedural questions along the way but um yeah i guess maybe take us back and and his office obviously a revisit cheer childhood right in the ah the early eighties right so the the idea of this of this challenger league to the uh the mighty uh national football league right was pretty much began in the very early part of the 1980s when indeed you're describing a media landscape that was you know cable was becoming a thing was that the era of you know ob asking calling your cable operator of you had a cable subscription to i you know i want my mtv ride and other things he rate apec espn and 1979 live wet back when it actually stood for something the entertainment and sports programming network uh you know by college basketball and uh you know it was really very nascent times a based on your journey backward into the early rumblings of this ligo what is your assessment of i guess the narrative of of effectively how did this essentially come about from your perspective garb league was the idea of a man named david dixon he was a new orleans and peak dealer me with pretty well connected down there and just to say that he was an antique dealer does him a little injustice 'cause you wonder how does a guy like that become involved in pro football but he had been involved in staging nfl exhibition games in new orleans before the saint he had been part of the deal the brokered the saint and the nor orleans super dumped so he was the guy who's known in football circles who could get the nfl commissioner pete roselle on the phone so he was a a wellconnected guy and he had had this idea how far back um i think before the american football league merchant in the nfl.

"Uh just a recounting the early nfl early years of the nfl and then the but the key thing was i really dove into the newspaper archives um the plane dealer here in cleveland uh the chicago tribune the new york times the la times and the beauty about you know research today is you know that's all online and so it's it's eminently searchable so you don't have to flip through the pages like you like you might have had had to have done twenty years ago you know so but was interesting as i started to dig up miss i'm coming across these stories and it was it was amazing how quickly the arkan's story started to come together you know i really knew how the story began in 1930 six ah in the american football league and knew how the story ended nineteen 46 with the rams leaving cleveland had only a vague idea what had happened in between there and what emerged was kind of a classic coming of age kind of arc you know here you have early failure the major setbacks um you know of the war in nineteen 42 1943 1944 which is you know just across the nfl just really decimated their ranks i mean owners were were in the were drafted into the military uh players all sorts of personnel than we have uh kind of a rebound in 1944 and then this sudden success in 1945 i mean the rams came out of the blue to win the championship they were the first uh team outside of the power structure of the nfl to that time which of course was the bears the packers the giants and of course the detroit lions so the rams were this upstart franchise at almost through divine intervention sort of one this championship in 1945 and then they leave home.
