Good morning to you. It's good to be on with you as always. I've got a lot of things to covering begin. Perhaps counter intuitively with your on the senate judiciary committee. I played part of your questioning of the nominee jennifer sung the night circuit. I would not vote to confirm anyone who signs such a letter. Will you know of course not huge. Jennifer song is a far left lawyer who signed a letter the day after brett cabinet. I was nominated. I think she called him intellectually and morally bankrupt and predicted that people will die if he's confirmed Look i'm saying disagreeing with kavanagh's rulings. When he was a judge now justice. I disagreed with the here and there as well Disagreed much. every justice's rulings here and there. So i'm a lot more than others. Obviously but i'm not aware why you probably morally bankrupt and it is sung obviously couldn't predict the person or the person who has died in the last three years we vertibrak break capping off to the court. I gotta say no. That's just the tip of the iceberg. The by the ministration has nominated dozens. Maybe hundreds of people whose twitter feed. Show them to be totally unhinged. I i mean they really went off the deep end in the trump or some people that i genuinely respected from the obama era. Maybe i didn't agree with them all the time. But i thought especially in the world of national security. They were responsible sensible sober-minded professionals even if we had our disagreements here and there about say how to confront isis or What our policy iraq was. And then you look at me. Twitter speeds. When i come back in front of us to be confirmed this time around. And they sound like crazy people ranting in the
Worried Trump Could 'Go Rogue,' Milley Took Secret Action to Protect Nuclear Weapons
"Now the big story in washington. Dc and it really did grip the city yesterday is what the general milley say and doom did he say it after the new woodward and cost a book peril has appeared. The white house stepped forward to defend general milley against charges. He did anything inappropriate. Editorials in the washington post and the wall street journal both call for infant investigations and hearings under oath general milley for fear that he is compromised. Not merely american defense into conversations with china but the constitutional order. Now i have said from the beginning two days ago. Hold your fire on this. Wait and see. Acting secretary of defense miller who had replaced mark esperer at the time of the second call says he did not authorize the call and that's extraordinary cause for resignation. Mike pompeo went on fox with hannity last night and made some comments on this. What you to your secretary pompeo number one. I have no recollection of a conversation. Like that. look we were all pretty down. We are about to hand over the reins of foreign policy to what this administration we. We've seen these last eight months. What that means for the united states of america so if someone asked was excited about january twentieth and the fact that we were no longer going to have the capacity to secure american freedom. Count me for being a pretty dark place to. But what's important to know sean. Is you know all this has as a product that somehow there was. This fear there was there was a cabinet members. Run around concern. The donald trump was going to engage in some kind of rogue activity or some kind of act of war to sorta lash out. This never happened. Just it's just patently absurd and so the entire credit for all of this assessment that woodward is now laid out in his book. We'll see what turns out but make no mistake about it. During that entire time the entire time. I served all four years. We conducted orally foreign policy. We had national security team. That was working hard to make sure we make the best decisions. We possibly good. And i think the data set which show that. We did a pretty damn effect job and doing that.
Shake, Rattle the Roles: Britains Cabinet Reshuffle
"Britain's prime minister starts today with a very different cabinet than he had yesterday on. Peculiarity of british politics is the cabinet reshuffle. A sudden reordering of who's in charge of what in the government this one was. Well telegraphed and members of parliament had been pressing. Boris johnson on. Who shouldn't be in charge of much with all the talk of cabinet. Reshuffle can the prime minister guarantee that the foreign secretary will finally be sucked that any shuffled or does he intend to the world and competence reshuffles serve many purposes rewarding loyalty punishing perceived foolishness and setting or resetting a political agenda but they're messy and embarrassingly public ministers shuffled past the cameras outside downing street toward their new fates expecting a promotion. Knew it might not seem like a great time for such disruption with the country focused on what the pandemic will bring next and on britain's role in the crumbling of afghanistan but the prime minister has plenty of other business still to attend to and now a new team to tackle. It was expected that. Boris johnson would hold reshuffle. He has space to do so. Now and macelroy is a senior editor at the economist. Britain's coming out of the pandemic enough to do something like that. that wouldn't look like distraction. He won a tight vote on tax raising last week to fund the nhs and social care so he feels that he sweeps all before him. And this is the time to clear out some deadwood and makes them promotions. And what is the dead wood. That's been cleared out with the most. Prominent deadwood. That went out was dominic robb brexit. Here a lawyer. He became foreign secretary and went through that role. I think without great distinction. But he did it and then got into terrible trouble. When the fall of kabul happened. He was on holiday with his family and he didn't really appear to respond quickly enough to the

Sebastian Has Made Only One Mistake: Backing Bill Barr
"Have made one mistake which i have publicly accepted on this show. I have made at least two or three mea culpas and that has to do with a certain member of the administration. I served with a cabinet member. I was just a lowly strategist deputy to the president and that individual was our attorney general. Bill baugh and i have a story to tell you about bilbao from us nine on this show on social media and elsewhere i made statements about bill baugh being a good guy getting to the bottom of things rooting out corruption in the department of justice. Not making an excuse. Because i you know those words when mine but i made those statements based upon things that had been told to me by very good friends. Who'd worked for bill baugh when he had been the attorney general previously in the bush administration. So it's going on socio deemed to be very reliable. And i repeated that affirmation but i was wrong. I was as wrong as wrong. Could be this man is come. He is swamp. Just look into how richie is in where he got his money from. But you don't need to know that stuff. The inside baseball. You need to know what he did or didn't do for the trump administration how he had one job one job to clean out the stygian origin. Stables that were the department of justice just clean it out of corruption of the likes of stroke mccabe at the fbi komai people who weaponize law enforcement and he didn't nothing zip one. One junior loy gets a slap on the wrist for forging cia document. If i'd forced the cia document ibm jail now and be there for a long
The Unexpected Story of a Man and His Bear, Winnipeg
"The toys from our childhood. Stay with us long after we stop playing with them as adults we may lose track of a beloved stuffed animal or a fun action figure but we keep the memories. We remember how safe they made us feel and darkened bedroom or how much fun we had zooming them around the house as if they were flying and yet no matter what we all grow up and leave childish things behind but thanks to one man's impulsive decision. we learned. We don't have to let the past slip away. Not only can we hold onto it but we can share it with the people we love and keep that joy alive for generations to come harry. Colbourn was born in birmingham england in eighteen eighty seven. When he was eighteen years old he moved to ontario canada where he studied to become a veterinarian surgeon upon receiving his degree he settled in winnipeg in manitoba but duty would eventually call. Harry joined the military when world war one became too great to ignore and he hopped a train to quebec for basic training. It was on his way to the camp when he encountered an odd sight. A hunter had killed a black bear and taken. It's cub to sell at a local trading post. Harry gave them twenty dollars and in exchange he took possession of the bear cub which he named winnipeg after the town where he'd been living. His plan was to raise winnipeg for a little while before releasing her back into the forest. Unfortunately harry's plans change very quickly. Winnipeg became a hit among other troops. They played with her and let her stay in the bunks where. She slept under harry's kat that she grew however winnipeg got too big to live indoors and was relegated to outside like a kind of watch bear for the soldiers. The more time they spend together the harder it became for harry to let go. He in winnipeg had grown close. So close that. When he was ordered to go back to england to fight on the western front he refused to release the bear back into the wild he instead snuck her into the ship with the other troops together. They traveled to the second canadian. Infantry brigade camp near stonehenge in england. Harry let her roam free for a while they were there. She enjoyed playing on the large stones but he soon understood that he would have to give her up. There was just no way for winnipeg to go all the way with him to the front
Florida Appeals Court Rules in Favor of DeSantis' Mask Mandate Ban
"You put je mask on you. Pick jim ask off. You put your mask back and forth. Shake it all about yet. An appeals court ruled friday. Keep governor to santa's parental mask option. Not his mask mandate or his right band. Not it's not a mask ban. It's a parental option in place. Which means that they can now withhold the salaries of school board members and districts that are requiring face coverings for all students. I would assume at eight o'clock this morning. All of these schools will be served in person with papers find at least thirteen school districts including florida's large sixth-largest. That's palm beach broward. He doesn't he doesn't waste any time. And he's not the kinda guy who just makes some sort of veiled political threat you will follow through. He went to harvard. Su he was a jag attorney and he knows the law and he knows the laws. He wouldn't do this if he didn't think the law was not behind him. Yeah you're right right the double negative all right well and it's the whole cabinet the legislature behind him to they're not messing around with this thing and i'm telling you where's the backlash from parents. I'm sure it's there. It's just we're not hearing from them. Who are so mad at their school board for playing chicken with the school board funding. Yeah it's irresponsible the other thing is that vaccines for twelve year olds. No you cannot do it. Because they don't know what the dosing is right the approval though no it doesn't even have approval they don't know how to dose it but in yet the l. which which is la unified school district. Which one bigger one they just have mandated a vacs requirement for kids. You can't you can't scare. I know exactly what you're saying. So i don't understand the decision. How can you even do that science. Isn't there you can't give a kid the regular amount that you would get no and they don't know how much that is. So my gosh very scary common i i figure it out but i know i got a feeling that are going to figure out quicker the not you
What Are Shadow Governments?
"Is a shadow government we can and do have shadow governments working very hard behind the scenes we can use the definition of shadow to also partly define a shadow government. Well according to this belief the officially elected government is subservient to the shadow government. Which is the true executive power in the tampa bay times april twenty eighth nineteen ninety three an article entitled light is cast on shadow government by thomas churchill done he says the phrase the shadow government was actually coined by an imaginative editorial writer for the tampa tribune. This unknown wordsmith figured readers would be intrigued by ominous talk of sinister conspiracy at work. A mysterious shadow government spinning. It's evil web over an unsuspecting citizenry. Well whether or not you want to see a shadow government happening you have to admit that it might be true an op. Ed news dot com piece on august. Second twenty twenty one entitled trump's shadow cabinet is part of the ongoing coup. It says here. Even though the number of dying trump followers increases daily his coup rolls on now and the trump shuttle universe. he's created a shadow government for his shadow fans. It's not as wacky and idea as it seems suggests trump's solidifying his control over the gop going toward twenty twenty two and twenty twenty four. Well here's another one from the detroit. Free press on march seventh two thousand and two way back when i found this of interest about a shadow government it says here a shadow government. A government not elected by the voters. Holy outside the purview of the. Us constitution all members appointed to their posts by george w bush with no say by the us.

Congressman Lee Zeldin Comments on the Unsurprising Lack of Diversity in the Taliban Government
"Have a mind numbing. Here is short clip from our chief. Diplomat this beta male tony blinken. Who surprised that. The taliban aren't all pride. Flags and equity cut seven play cards yesterday. The taliban named a new interim government. We're sesing the announcement but despite professing that a new government would be inclusive the announcement his names consists exclusively of individuals were members of the taliban close associates. And no win your metro intelligence professional you or any of your colleagues surprise that they weren't representatives of the lgbt community any women in the taliban regime and isn't it strange that tony blinken forgot to mention that. Four of the cabinet members are taliban terrorists. That obama released congressman well. There's a lot. There unpack in the reality. Is that this taliban terrorist group would throw a member of the lgbtq community off of a rooftop to their desks before they're going to be appointed to a cabinet and the other thing too. That really requires some serious self reflection by the secretary and others in this administration is that when the taliban and others who are america's adversaries would you would play that clip that you just played at the end of it. They would then start laughing their asses off like they can't believe that this is where the focus is at our are Important approach to foreign policy and we saw this for four years during the trump administration is that we should be understanding or are enemies. Do not respect. We only respect strength And that we have to be strong and consistent Exercising willing to exercise all of our instruments of national power military's included. But that is the last possible option. We have it on the table because we don't wanna use
The Taliban's New Government Includes Hardliners and a Designated Terrorist
"Activists afghanistan are asking world leaders not to recognize the new interim afghan government. There are no women in the taliban cabinet. It even includes an extremist on the fbi's most wanted list a far cry from the inclusive. Moderate leadership mini had wanted for more. On what this all means. We're joined by. Npr's jackie northam in islamabad pakistan. Jackie welcome thank you very much. This new interim government is made up of a lot of the old guard. Tell us who they are. You're right. I mean there are a lot of familiar faces here That have been with the taliban from many many years. The new head of the afghanistan's government interim head is a man named muhammad hassan. A koon and he's considered a hard liner. You absolutely he from kandahar. Which is the birthplace of the taliban and he's held various leadership roles over the years including foreign minister and deputy prime minister when the tel ban ruled afghanistan in the nineties. So he's got experience Updo ghani batard on this is interesting. He heads the talibans political officer. He's going to be the interim deputy prime minister but this was a a surprise. He was really Widely expected to lead the taliban government a couple others You know there's the son of mullah omar who founded the taliban. He's now the in term defense minister and then we have sirajjidin Connie who is basically on a wanted list with the us and the fbi and he has a you know a five million dollar bounty on his head so you know. Those are some of the people that we can expect that. Be running afghanistan on the next short while an maybe once. They finalize the government has well
Taliban Announces Formation of New Afghan Government
"The taliban announced a new government in afghanistan. that's not likely to get a lot of support from western nations. It does not include any women or members from the last afghan government's leadership instead. This new interim government is stacked with taliban veterans who were in charge of the hardline government. Twenty years ago. Several of them are listed by the us and united nations as global terrorists. For example. the key post of interior minister was given to a man. Who's on the fbi's most wanted list. He led a network. That's blamed for many deadly attacks and kidnappings and he's believed is still holding at least one american hostage besides him. Other cabinet members used to be inmates at guantanamo detention camp and at least one of the leaders is said to have ties to the al qaeda terror group that was responsible for the attacks on nine eleven. The taliban says these appointments are temporary but they have not said how long the last who is going to take over next or if there might be elections for now. The taliban is also urging foreign diplomats embassies consulates and humanitarian organisations to come back to afghanistan all western nations left when. Us troops withdrew last month. The us and other countries also froze afghanistan's funding. That's desperately needed as much as eighty percent of the country's budget comes from the international community but global leaders in lenders say they're waiting to see how the taliban will treat the opposition women and minorities before they send money
How to Choose the Right Cabin on Your Cruise
"So the first thing that smart cruises do once they've decided what itinerary they want and what ship they want is think about the cabinet and choosing the cabin. Why is that really important. A lot of people say cabins are not important as just some way to get changed and sleep however. Let me tell you if you get a cabin. That doesn't suit you it will ruin your crews. I have thousands of people. Contact me around this issue. So what do smart cruises. What did i do for this particular cruise. Well first of all. I never ever take a guaranteed fat guaranteed. Fair is where you choose which kevin great you want about caen. Ocean view sweet. Whatever it is and you let the cruise line choose the kevin full you. I will always take the choose. Your own kevin option. Now it's not always necessarily more expensive. So that's the first thing. I do get control of choosing a cabin secondly i would always choose a cabin where i'm surrounded on all sides by the cabin above me below me either side of me and i did opposite me. I'll make sure there's a cabinet then kind of provides a buffer of from any noisy venues that may disrupt you can potentially protect you from high traffic areas or whatever that is really really important. The third thing i then do is make sure that i'm having a with no interconnecting door to the next room. Unless of course i need one because i'm traveling with someone that against really important because noise and disruptions can seep through and become pretty disruptive particularly people next to you have different scheduled to you. The first thing i do. Is i choose a cabin in the center of the ship so middle of the ship and that's really important because first of all it means that you equidistance for more of the key venues and activities so the restaurants might be at the back of the ship or you might find the frontal ships theater so you kind of middle wise. Also it's really important because it's where you're going to have the least amount of movement so that's also good worried about being seasick.
Taliban Form All-Male Afghan Government of Old Guard Members
"The Taliban have announced a caretaker cabinet the pays homage to the group's old guard Afghanistan's interim prime minister is mullah Hassan kunde he headed the Taliban government in Kabul during the last years of its rule mullah Abdul Ghani borrowed our will be one of two deputies he left talks with the United States and signed the deal that led to America's final withdrawal from Afghanistan Sirajuddin Haqqani has been named interior minister he's on the FBI's most wanted list with a five million dollar bounty on his head the interim government is all male and drawn mostly from Afghanistan's dominant Pashtun ethnic group the move seems unlikely to win the international support Afghanistan needs to avoid an economic meltdown I'm Ben Thomas

"american cabinet" Discussed on OC Talk Radio
"It approval of that. Yeah me too me too. He's he's a fine young man Now you know. I i wanna i wanna wrap up our time here Because i think we've covered so much we don't need to. We don't need to have an extremely long podcast air. Because i think we've covered a fine material but there is a word that fits into this into this discussion. We are having and we've talked about it a bit but there's a word that has become part of the american vocabulary at least in my circles is become a part of the american cabinet vocabulary and that is great. Everything has to be great. Terry how you doing great really. You're doing great. What in the world. I mean because very few people are really doing great. They're they're doing I want to replace great with good. I'm doing. I'm doing well. Life is good for me. Good is almost an unacceptable term. Nowadays part of the thing about that is that we have a we also have a system where Much of the the conversation with the first three or four sentences is predicated on on not necessarily what israel. But simply the way we've decided to talk to each other and and so that that's my paradigm shift. I when people ask me. I literally respond in my. This is my paradigm shift. I will respond to that with what i consider to be an honest sentence in other words that i will say to you. How are you doing today. I would say to you I wanted to make it a nonsense. I will say i'm having. I'm having a decent day in other words. That's an honest sentence. i will say to you. I really liked the weather in other words. I wanna say something honest not gonna tell them. I'm off the deep end today. Because that's not their deal but but my point is by paradigm shifts. Is i want to say something honest. Because it anchors me to what is real in the ordinary moment now. But i'll say i'm glad the sun is shining. That's an honest sentence. Day to day when i entered. It was funny terry. Because i've heard this preached so many times but today today today was an excellent example of it. When i went into the bathroom we have at the at seven o'clock in the morning. We have a we have a morning light shining in our bathroom window and it just the whole bathroom seemed to be lit up with joy there was something about the sun shining and so one of the best things of my day today was simply the sun shining through my bathroom windows. It just gave me right. It gave me such a sense of pleasure in such as sense of e and then and then we live with the pressure. If we don't live if we don't live up to these magnificent titles and and greatness. I love your idea of wayne and measuring we measure we way low on the scale and that must mean we are somehow less than and there's just too many people feeling somehow less than and that is evacuated a damn shame. That's that's the thing that drives me nuts. Is that that the answer. That is therefore connected to ourselves. Worse our value and our self esteem. And that's that's where we go wrong. And that's that's where we're definitely detrimental. And charlie how you doing today. I saw the sunlight this morning. It was awesome. That's good boom and it and it lasts as i thought about it is is. I'm telling you. I can feel that feeling again. I can feel that contends because the because it connects you grounds. You connect you to be live. It connects you to be in your own skin. It connects you to what is sacred. Because there's something sacred and all of that even if you'd understanding what do we do terry when we are in in our in our in our employment in our jobs in our careers the philosophy is about. It's all about wayne and measuring and so we have to go through so many hours a day of which were judged were evaluated were given critique on how well we're doing this or how how poorly we're doing this and so we're constantly in a situation of constantly in a place of being weighed and measured and we need to make a very conscious effort. In my opinion it would be very helpful. I don't wanna use the word we need but it would be very helpful if we could divorce ourself from that. Say okay. this is what i have to put up with. And i'm gonna do my best and and and i'm going to honor my contract. I'm going to honor my agreement. I'm going to be a kind person. I'm going to be a helping person. I'm going to be a productive person. Am i going to be great at it shoot. I don't know. I just know i am going to do my best to do my assignment. And there's just not a you know a lot of people doing and a lot of people doing it and the ones that are doing it. I find are probably not respected by the leaders in your organization the most organizations but some that's they they actually grow people like that. Toss like who. Terry i i would love. I may go to go back to work. That'll be a great great podcast for you is to highlight three or four or five companies. That that's what they do is that that they grow people and so their sense of well-being is actually better having been in the company which it pay off for the company. I want to wrap her up now. Because i'm feeling like we. We're you know we're just gonna go round and round. Because we have we've covered the essence of this. And and and i will do my attempt at summing up and then i would like you to give your attempted summing up and i am enamored with your proposition of wayne and measuring. I think those are those are very unproductive and and disheartening ways to approach life when we begin to look at it in light of the ordinary we can. We can see things differently. I am so into that. You know you've really nailed me on that wayne and measuring what you have to say i i. It's one of the It's one of the things that i had to wrestle with because you just like dislike any of us whatever industry were in you compare yourself you know like as a writer i would read pat conroy when i would think why do i even try. Oh me too yeah literally. Why would i even try. Yeah we're not worthy then. I missed the see. There i am. I'm wayne and measuring so in other words this has nothing to do with what it means to be a skilled writer or learning. The essences of writing has nothing to do with that do that. I don't bring that. I have already downgraded my identity and.
"american cabinet" Discussed on The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell
"This point that people begin to understand and include a p is within their framework of what it means to be an american. Amanda win and on. Thank you both very much for joining this important discussion tonight. We really appreciate it. Thank you thank you coming up the best selling author min jin lee will join us next with her insights and reflections on the tragic mass murderer in georgia. It has been a week of multiple and important. I for asians and asian americans. The first asian women woman director nominated for an oscar. The first asian american nominated for a best actor. The first asian american woman confirmed by the senate to serve in a cabinet position. The cabinet position of united states trade representative but last night. Our next guest tweeted in less than forty eight hours. We had historic oscar moment with multiple firsts in ninety three years then a mass shooting targeting three asian owned businesses. This is how terrorism works. You're not allowed to feel safe accepted or valued we can resist. Take up space. Make noise joining us. Now is been jinlie writer in residence at amherst college and author of the new york times bestseller pachinko. Thank you very much for joining us tonight for this important discussion and i wanna just open it to you. I don't presume to guide you in this. Please guide us and share with us your thinking and feelings over the last twenty four hours. Oh good evening lawrence. Thank you for having may also for discussing this issue. It's so very important for a community and also for america it's a race based crime. It's a gender based crime. And i think that we need to frame the narrative as such. I find it really troubling to me that we keep trying to say that it is not a race based crimes so i keep bringing it back to the discussion because denying it only compounds. The injury of asian americans right now who are suffering under the revisiting of the yellow peril paradigm and. I think what we saw today. I've watched police press conferences. And today we saw the police repeatedly saying well key says it wasn't race based and it sounds like they're investing in that but it's all they have at this point is what he said That doesn't mean it's true. I really like what you just said. Because if he says. I'm going to say it's not how about that. I want is h my word against his because it seems to me that the shooter drove to three locations are asian owned businesses. And then he ended up shooting in those three businesses. So they were targeted. Asians and asians died. So i think that the actual impact should represent a real intention as well. He drove to specific sites which were raced based sites yet to talk about How feels of. Because i think a lot of people when when they're watching this and they see the coverage of the press conference and the police say well he says it wasn't race-based of that doesn't give you any relief at all not at all and also The korean press has made it clear that there were witnesses who who heard him say. That i'll kill all the asian and because there has been a different coverage in the korean press. It makes me really wonder what is actually going on. And the korean eye witnesses. Perhaps they're not speaking to western press about what occurred because they're embarrassed and they're afraid. Do you think that this would pose a particular challenge of for the police investigation of dealing with a korean witnesses. No absolutely not. There are multiple multi-lingual people who can translate very easily between the police and the witnesses and also the victims. and also. what's really interesting to me. Is that we have a police. Chief who has a history of being anti asia and There's been a report that was confirmed by the new york times on facebook. He was selling t shirts which were anti anti chinese sentiment. And then in addition to that he said that the young shooter was just having a very bad day. And when i have a very bad day i might have some ice cream. I don't think that having a bad day allows you to go and kill innocent people who are working class and we're just doing their jobs. You know some people heard that line as the of a police official was just describing what the killer told him. How did you hear that line. I don't know why this young shooter gets the benefit of the doubt but working class women who are murdered and the witnesses surrounding them don't get the benefit of the doubt knife. Think that it's really time. It's time that we need to reframe the focus in seeing. Who's humid in who's not human. As far as i'm concerned that the people who are killed in the people who are witnesses around them are very much human and just because we might have a language barrier. We may not. I think that we need to really investigate. And i think that the police chief who spoke should be immediately Stepping back from his position. Because i don't think he's qualified to investigate this been john lee. Thank you very much for joining this important discussion tonight. We really appreciate it. Thank you thank you at a special. "It's morning edition from NPR News. I'm Noel King. Inmate. Martinez in Europe Committee of Experts from the European Medicines Agency is reviewing the safety of the AstraZeneca covert vaccine at reports of some people experiencing blood clots in the days after immunization. Multiple countries, including France, Germany and Spain and suspended the use. The AstraZeneca shot over concerns that it may not be safe. But the head of the European Medicines Agency email cook today defended the vaccine. She said. The position of the E M A is that country should continue to use it even asked the safety review is ongoing. We're still firmly convinced that the benefits of the aspect of botanica vaccine in preventing probe in 19 outweigh the risk of these side effects. NPR's Jason Beaubien has been following this, Jason. So it sounds like you've got countries in Europe, saying one thing halt the use of the vaccine, the AstraZeneca vaccine in the European Medicines agency saying no keep using it to explain what's going on here. Yeah. So this started last week with reports starting to build about incidents of people getting blood clots in the days after getting the AstraZeneca vaccine, and some of them, we should say were fatal blood clots. Initially it was 30 incidents from across Europe overcooked the head of the E Emma, she said. They're getting more reports. She wouldn't give an exact number, but characterized these vents is rare, given that five million people have gotten the AstraZeneca shot across Europe. Situation like this is not unexpected. When you vaccinate millions of people, it's inevitable that you have rare are serious incidents is off in this is that occur after vaccination. And right now, European regulators are trying to determine whether the timing of these incidents was just a coincidence or whether there's actually some link between the vaccine and these particular blood clots. So is there evidence of a link? The DNA is saying that so far, there's not evidence they point out that the blood clots didn't come up is a concern during the extensive clinical trials. AstraZeneca has been used extensively in the UK and it wasn't seen as a problem there. But that's why they're trying to figure this out. Right now. They're investigating these individual cases. They're also looking statistically it what would be normal the normal number of blood clots you'd expect to see on a daily basis in Europe. And what's the likelihood that someone seven days after getting immunized, might get one of these one official from the says that At the moment, it looks like the rate of blood clots among immunized people was actually lower than the usual background rate. But the E M A is doing damage control right now. They've got more than 1000 people dying every day from Cove it yet vaccination program for covert across the continent are in limbo as these blood clots are investigated. So what's the plan in Europe? How are they gonna resolve this? So the review committee is investigating and they say they're going to have an answer, or at least some guidance for countries on Thursday, But right now they're trying to assure both the public and individual countries that they're taking this seriously. They're looking at the evidence and if there needs to be an updated recommendation that they will provide that and just to be clear. AstraZeneca's not being used in the U. S. That's correct. It's on Lee been used in some clinical trials here here in the U. S. So, Jason how important is this decision in Europe but vaccination efforts in other parts of the world. It is really huge. This is a very important vaccine globally. AstraZeneca is on track to provide more doses around the world this year than any other producer. Other manufacturers are producing it under licensing agreements in many parts of the world in Argentina, India, South Korea. So getting clarity on whether or not it's safe and getting clarity on when these vaccination programs in Europe can get going again is really important. NPR's Jason Beaubien, Jason Thanks a lot. But you want to know what they really think. Read how the person he wants as the next white house. Deputy chief of staff called republicans in congress. A bunch of efforts. Afc response marco rubio. You stood by total silence when you're gop colleague called a congresswoman an effing ing on the capitol steps in front of press. Apparently some congressman insulted. Aoc he denied it and she's a liar so i don't believe maybe he did. Maybe he didn't. But i certainly don't take a word. You weren't big enough to speak then and you don't get to saab now by the way that is the right word for those who fleece and scam working families. You gotta give the gal credit. She makes every single thing about her. Obama was very good at this. I hope that doesn't mean. Aoc's can become president. Obama come graduates from law school. He's done nothing in his entire life. History accomplished nothing in the professional world and political world is just always really dentist going through school and he writes a book about his favorite subject himself then. He writes another book. Do you know what that book is about. Give you a hint. It's his favorite subject himself. Then he's president. You know he leaves the presidency and he. He's written two books about himself. He then gets a book deal and he writes a seven hundred fifty page book about do you know. Can you guess himself all the things he all the details he left out of the first six hundred pages about himself. He was able to fit in to the next seven hundred fifty pages. And that's what i owe see does aoc who is really bad for the country. She is a stain on american public life. Just like a festering wound on american public life ripping up I real issues. That america's had ripping up a completely imaginary issues. That america's had everything is sort of contemptuous of the country. But she's she's not the only person who does that. The reason she does is because it gives her a lot of attention and there are some republicans who've done that too but narcissism is a occupational hazard of politics but doesn't in particular in the way she does. It is focus on all these grievances. Everything is about how she's been wronged. This is at what thirty year old bartender with. Absolutely no qualification to be in congress other than her age and she gets this great cushy job and and a significant amount of influence and she still complaining. Imagine that imagine still complaining about that. But it's always about grievance and so for instance if if biden does become president He's now going to appoint a native american cabinet secretary representative debbie holland to lead the department of the interior. Okay that's fine. I don't know anything about deb haaland. Maybe she's fine probably not if she's going to be a biden. Pick but that's fine. They're not talking about her qualifications to lead this department. They're not talking about her experience this department. They're talking about how she's native american. And how this is historic. Because you know we've never had native americans in the government or anything except that we've actually already had not just a native american cabinet secretary. We've had native american vice president and we had him as vice president ninety one years ago. The thirty first vice-president the united states nineteen twenty nine to nineteen thirty-three first person of color to use the popular phrase and first native american to be vice president. Charles curtis under. Herbert hoover was republican. By the way it's not like he was one thirty second native americanism. The guy had membership in a native american nation. The guy looked extremely native american. He did it. If you're interested in that sort of historic breakthrough. he did it. He was the guy who did it completely. Written out of history because the left controls the history books and so they. You're not gonna hear about that guy maybe occasionally on some conservative talk show or in a conservative book. You'll hear mentioned that you won't hear it anywhere else. They did this with people to judge. They just pete. Buttigieg is gonna be the head of the department of transportation. Why i don't dispute adjudge know anything about transportation. Now probably not doesn't matter it's historic pete buttigieg according to the media. He's the first openly gay cabinet secretary. Except he's not. We just had the first openly gay cabinet secretary his name was rick grenell under donald trump. That happened like five minutes ago. It's been completely written out already that that is a conspiracy not me necessarily a conscious one. It's sort of reflexive. I think for the left that they have their narrative and they're sticking to it whether reality backs it up or not. The media certainly aren't going to correct them. Wanna see kind of hard hitting journalism. We have seen the washington post has been trying to overthrow the two thousand sixteen election since before it occurred will now that they think biden's got it. Certainly he's in done-deal. "Make that person really powerful because they can then be a really great go-between between the rest of the president's staff in the cabinet Most presidents don't necessarily do that but if if presence can do that generally it works really well so cabinets used to be a breeding ground for future presidents and during that founding era so many of our early presidents had been secretaries of state. But we haven't had a cabinet member become president since one thousand nine hundred nine. Herbert hoover and hillary clinton was the first recent cabinet member in a long time to get the nomination. Why do you think that this has changed a great question I think there are probably two reasons. The first is that increasingly cabinet. Secretaries are not selected from political ranks. They're selected from people that have a lot of experience in that particular field of expertise so by and large for example secretary of state tends to be pulled from people who have a lot of foreign policy experience in so that just means that there are less likely to run for office or to be well known enough that they could launch a campaign that would be successful. The second part sort of goes hand in hand which is that. Politics are increasingly a lifelong career and the cabinet. Secretaries have become in some ways of More political than they had been and so for people so for example. A great recent recent example. Is susan rice. Who was the national security adviser. A cabinet level position and She had never run for office. She had never been in a technically political position and yet because of her role in the obama administration. Many people thought that she had all of this political baggage. Which i personally think is nonsense. Because i don't think it was political baggage but that was just my. That's my interpretation but so she was held accountable for all these things that happened when she was technically not really in a political position it was a foreign policy position so i think the blending of wines there has made it hard for people with in theory no political experience to run for office when they are being held accountable for all these other things so the cabinet has expanded to fifteen secretaries including vice president. Something like that. How do you think washington the godfather of the american cabinet. How do you think he would react to what the cabinet looks like today. I don't think he would have an objection per se to the size because he understood that things are going to change and evolve in there should be new solutions to problems as they came up and he appreciated organic development of the administration of the presidency in response to real challenges that being said he obviously would have recognized. That meeting with fifteen people was maybe not the most effective way to actually make a decision and certainly would be difficult to get off on the same page. And so my guess is he probably would have had like a foreign policy cabinet and economics cabinet and obviously there are some issues that defy categorization in indeed. Everyone's input but my guess is he would have had sort of like working groups depending on this subject and what have found that to be more effective so last question after all this research knowing what you know now about the origin and the history of the cabinet if you were if you were advising an incoming president on forming and managing his or her cabinet. What would you say well first of all..

There are a lot of people around the world that aren't happy with American because they don't share our values, and that shouldn't be a surprised anybody have Friday, U. S intelligence said Russia was targeting Biden then China Trump in San Francisco. I met Baxter. This is Bloomberg. Alright, Thank you. To our guest for the half hour is a Brett McGonigal. He is chairman, CEO of Capital Link looking at market action here. Thanks for joining us, Brett. A lot going on. Let's begin with U. S China relations, particularly in view of what we heard from President Trump at the end of last week. Now he's going to prohibit US residents from doing business with Tic tac, and we chat maybe some other Chinese tech companies beginning in about 45 days. Now, Trump says that there is the risk of exposing Americans personal income, and that's part of How he is justifying this move. How could it play out? Do you think from markets? Well, look, I think we're digitalized saber rattling going on right now. And if you if you look at the historic of this trade war, it's been a lot of big words. Kind of, you know, big talk, No action headline. So I think that we're still in a place where we could get back to ground zero on DH Trump is Is certainly lashing out right now. The risk of us people's income being somehow there being some see through through Chinese APS, I don't think is a really big play, so I don't know how how far that's going to go. But it certainly does suggest that that they're grappling right now, for some sort of middle ground or some leverage point. Which doesn't suggest we're close to any sort of Ah ah, any sort of break even or settlement, But I think this is kind of business as usual. I don't look at it as being a huge thing at this point in time, to be honest. Years. So far, Markets don't really seem to care about geopolitical risk. But I'm wondering, what do you think would make it all? Really what sort of development would change that? Well, look, I mean, so, you know, in the lead up while I was listening to come on nasty. Pelosi's talking about a trillion up a trillion down. We've gotten to a point where you know that's just crazy Talk like we're talking about trillions of dollars as if there No, there's something that anybody put their head around. So I think we're in a political stays right now, obviously, but we're in the lead up to the campaign. It's certainly game on with Trump with the executive orders and leading into Thie end of the summer in the early fall into into the November election. So I think that as a rational spectator looking from around the globe, but the markets you have to take the big headlines from the US right now from Trump and The Biden camp as You really have to take it with a grain of salt. I don't think that they have international implications. Certainly both parties have taken a very hawkish you on China. I think that's more internal domestic politics playing out. I don't think it's an actual Huge play against China think it's more of the two of them boxing each other in. So look, I think that does it have a big impact on the market. I don't think so. I think that you would have to see some real Escalation, which won't come during during the election period would come probably post February or post new Year. So I don't think that we're in any sort of a place where We have some huge down dressed of the mark downdraft the market because of this, I think it's just all headline risk. I think everybody's reading through the headline risk right now and digesting it properly. Well, Bret, speaking of being boxed in, I mean, I think that's what the Fed is feeling very much mean. Today, Charlie Evans was reinforcing a viewpoint that we have heard Um, a number of Fed officials saying it's incredibly.
