"All right. Let's get into our interview with one of the newest patriots. Matt jude on a very much a tough guy. Winter say joey is very top. He's big he's strong he's bowl. He reminds me a lot chevy silverado and here for chevy silverado. I have my guy you hear him. Every sunday night chris collins. It's from sunday night. Football on nbc. And he's He congratulated drew brees yesterday joining him on his seen. Chris what he got say about chevy silverado. I tell ya. Joey doesn't get much better than that. i mean. they're the strongest most advanced silverado ever. They're strong dependable hard working. I mean there are a lot like you guys are about to talk to you. I mean you look at chevy silverado. And you say here's a drug. That has a design. That's big it's bold. It's commanding turns down really not partner with grit and determination anything's possible and silverado is a partner in that. When you look at what can't do can you can use it for all ing towing all roading. Moving day know. Joey was using one for is moving day last week. Yeah out with her friend or family member. Some road trips out like we'd be every weekend. I mean i just love it. There's another better than a chevy silverado. I'd ideally it's the strongest most advanced silverado. Amer their doubt about that. Thanks so much. Chris that was well done sir. I appreciate your insight on chevy silverado. The strongest most advance silverado. Ever much like our next guest. Matt judah by going deep podcasts. We've got matt jude on one of the crown jewels of this free agency class. I would say baltimore ravens. But we're going to be airing this the day of free agency. We don't know we don't know where you're going to land and also say outside linebacker but technically you're defensive end as far as your paychecks. You settled on that right louis. Split the difference between knock be corner adjusted bandages. Needs off like you know. I'm a jack of all trades and a master the bottle so so it just wherever it is team. Eat me where off to the defendant stuff. I mean that's i am all right. So let's let's get into that so you're two time pro bowler plane on the edge. You were franchise last year. I mean you made a pretty cool. Sally about little almost seventeen million dollars this year. If you were to get franchises again it would be twenty percent higher than that. So it's likely you're going to be hitting the market. What is it like going into free agency and you know. What are your views on the process anomaly. Right now we need. We need to figure out salary. Cap is don't be at the nfl in the nfl. Pa still trying to get a what s going be in. This is a lot announced yana. We're going to be living for the next. You know five years Yano titus game. You don't be and like you said. I could be in three four four three. I can be outside linebacker audible or area. Dm a hand in dirt. So i'm just getting ready for all that. I don't know where the team me to be. Wait you know so all that stuff Goes into consideration. Were picking a team indian. Obviously the team and my party has come to terms to You know obviously get a year's contract that a lotta honestly in a you know it's funny. I guess it's falling. You know octa could end up on the west coast meal west of the south end up back home in detroit so it just interesting so just hold on are all off that. What is the most important thing you're looking for. Is it like you know. Ambriz talked a lot about the weather in tampa. But is it more like you know. Getting a bag is at scheme fit as a coaching. What are you looking. What's like the number one thing matt johnston for. I wanna win games Wanna have a chance to win a championship of the not. Everybody gets to do it. You know people all saying without a you know. I won't be a charles barkley us you know i wanna i wanna play well in recognition but also i want that team delta Win a championship in a see how catis field you know. Be able to pass on down to my kids. Just so my question to us so everything you just said. You want to stay in baltimore because everything you describe. You have a quarterback you have a team can win planets up division. You've got off down with defense Is there extra emphasis and stay home. Because there's not a lot of teams out there in front of looked like baltimore raise. I stay home. i like the.

"That. So so what. I did was contactable editing companies and i got again. I got lucky. I contacted the military editor company and she added a lot of military books and she told me her price which was generous. But i just could not afford it and she read my story and she was like no what mbeki up and so she did it for free and she did an entire books of free which like she's set my car to be that much better book and then as far as abolishing One of those days away from hitting send on self published on amazon and guy read my book at him and his partner loved it and they were like look. We don't do memoirs and biographies stuff like that. But we're going to take a chance on your book and they fronts by ten thousand dollars and they just took it and ran with it. They got an amazon kindle. Just got done with the audio book your notch. Long ago so You know they. They really did tickner. A huge huge toll for gates pitching. I've had a number of book authors The navy seal. Who wrote the book. One hundred one deadly skills. Something something by navy seal or whatever and we were talking afterwards online about his recommendations do's and don'ts to write a book he's like okay. Whatever you do don't write your memoirs for the same reason you're not famous so no one cares. And so you're a memoir. Butch isn't going to sell no one's gonna want to buy and he actually l. kind of from a military planning perspective. He he's like you know. Go to the objective area in its area planning and then plan backwards from the objective area. So he said find a publisher that works for you and then ask them what kind of books they're actually looking for in then tailor your stuff to satisfy one of those niches that they happen to be looking for so he that was his recommendation about the the whole memoir saying in every once just write their story and like you said well. I don't really care. I might write a memoir. I'm just putting this down on paper so it worked for you And it does for lag. I mean there's a lot of really good books out there from military folks that are essentially memoirs that become very successful so In the editing process especially with his with his really good editor who volunteered to do it for free for which is awesome. Can you tell somebody who's never in a book. Can you tell me what are they. Would they actually do in. They edit like do they say oh you obviously misspelled a word or ease the wrong version of this word around tax to contact grammatical if she never touching mighty. No there was nothing. Substance that got changed really says motel proper grammar and yes. She just made sure that it was clean and that it sounded it sounded professional. But she she understood in deeply of my story and didn't wanna change that because they my words now she might add a recommendation for this and that like asia will detail are here or whatever but She never tried to take anything out of it so it was just cleaning up essentially. Oh that's really cool. It's great to hear so So you went with the self publishing route. The amazon right i was going to until my publisher. Pick me up. Okay all right yeah. I was days away from doing it. And then he was like you know what i'm gonna i'm gonna take your book. I'm around so and what was that experience like. Do they like cindy contract and you have to sign in. Yeah you will. But they weren't where it very well with me on essentially that there they said look we own the book and story but the story is not gonna change anything. We're not gonna you know you wanna walk away. The story is still yours. You know So they they've they've worked really well with me Publisher mark is a great guy so and and so they like did they send you a check up front like or was is it only now. It's every month. And essentially i get a dollar a book so it's not a lot so it's the dollar a book and then like i said that most of my proceeds i send Like every every month. Every two months i send money to lieutenant tyler seeming lieutenant tyler foundation which like. I said. He was my lt them. Okay that's awesome As far as dealing with the publisher and amazon everything Do you know where most you do. Most your books. The mostly selling off the amazon platform or somewhere else. You had your people to add. It's cheaper actually to buy on publisher's website like two dollars cheaper shipping and everything But it just for amazon because people like to add things in their cart and then just by and obviously like digital platform. There's the nook and kindle so And when you signed the deal with the publisher did you. Did you have to commit to marketing or promoting or goons idea that. I'd do it dismantled. Okay and i i yeah i don't i literally just gave him the book that's essentially what it was i but i do all the marketing and everything myself You know he doesn't require me to do anything. But it's it's only going to be as successful as i make it. So that's why i take on the marketing and trying to get the book out there. 'cause i'm trying to. I'm trying to bridge redefined gaps trying to build one be to myself or the combat veterans and other than that veterans who've gotten out it seen combat and i'm trying to show them an auto loan in that That their stories need told I'm trying to bridge. The gap between ourselves us combat veterans us military and our civilian communities. So they could understand that. This is one story of twenty years of war. There's many stories like And in bridging the gap between myself or us combat veterans and those who haven't deployed our future generation younger soldiers so that's they can learn from our endeavors so that when they ultimately inevitably face off with death in the next conflict. They can't apply with what we taught them so that they can be successful in their combat operations. So there's three different things. I'm trying to build here. That's awesome definitely definitely man on a mission appreciate that Any good stories Where somebody you didn't knows. Read your book and made contact with. You're gonna you get some feedback from some folks not not like anyone like famous or anything like that that i know of yet. I know one book was sent to lebron james. So it was kind of random but Yeah i gotta asked. I i got asked. I guess some officer in in the west point a community read my book and i got asked to talk to the freshman class of one thousand cadets Maybe like two months ago. And i talked about an hour to the freshman class. So that was that was kind of closed. It was hosted by the west point's modern war institute and So it was a pretty good event. yeah Any good good lessons or experiences Being able to speak at west point anything come to mind. Well i was supposed to actually gone there. But because of covid date they. They cancelled the event. It was nice. Because they're going to show me round. And i i'd never seen west point before and so i really would wish i could have gone and actually spent some time there but it was just all over zoom. So is fairly quick yeah. I didn't even dawn on me that of course it was on zoom. Yeah yeah no kidding. i've interviewed a lot of west point. Grads on the on the show and Is even an instructor that think. She's still there but she was teaching entrepreneurship at west point. So think we get a few west point listeners out there so maybe get to go back a year from now once. All this is over with so.

"Dame's. Patrick Mahomes sent you a good game too bad. Okay, pre? James in two games. So if you want to say he's the best quarterback in the league he made a half billion dollars. He's had to really good games and he looked terrible against the Patriots looked terrible against the chargers. So I chalked that up to or hey, not only maybe it's the genius of Bill Belichick Scher. But maybe it's just kind of like A. Feel out period. But Tom Brady's got new everything and you've got impediments as knew nothing I don't want to turn this into a patrick. Mahomes Bash fast well, I think saying that Ambriz only had to well a Lotta guys have had to Lamar quite right just because russell an airline Rogers Look Great Patrick Mahomes dozen. So I feel like I feel like that's okay. I mean. Let's go back to. The expectations right? Like that's that's what we're like week four and him looking away. He looks you can go back to the last time we saw this and it was Peyton manning going from the colts and taking a year off free year off, and then go into the Denver broncos his first year there vic thirty seven touchdowns eleven i. t's his second year. He lit up fifty five touchdowns record year, ten interceptions. So for Tom Brady to go last year I mean last game throw five td's that special because it's so hard going into a new system and trying to develop chemistry and nudity. This is a special moment for Tom Brady I'm telling you, I, know he got A. Hell of a Games in front of him nick, but thom is playing out of high level. Well. We gotta understand there's going to very quickly go ahead Mike Mike Hugo might go. To. Get. Quick me. Like I'm nowhere. Nowhere near the goal. Tom Brady is. In had no preseason. And to for him to be able to go out and execute the offense even get a couple of pick six isn't a couple of bad games but he had no preseason. He didn't know prep time to get ready for an opposing defense other than the film that he was able to watch the first two or three weeks of the season, and that's that's one thing that you can do. You know in August. You can stop tripping ahead of time what I gotta give Tom Credit because he's running new system a better day gift certificate chance to run it versus different defense in the preseason. That's what the preseason is so valuable. So I gotta give him props. Listen I love to give Tom? Brady credit. The problem is you guys won't let me great I would he's GonNa. He's already had doesn't play another game this year he's the greatest forty-three season. Anyone's ever had because nobody plays tiller this old but you guys demand we not great on curved. You guys demand. We continue to remind everyone who's the greatest ever? There are Super Bowl contender and he should be one of the best quarterbacks in football I don't buy that quickly. To Wilde's lunacy Tom Brady has. A fumble and to pick sixes Patrick Mahomes hasn't turned the ball over since the super bowl which he won by the way. So comparing the.

"There was this thing inside him and he was junked on speed and he admitted his drug use throughout the documentary but he said he was junked on speed drove from Dallas to Houston. Leave it when he said that how and he was so he was so just blunt frank about it. Here's like I was jacked on speed. Drove there 'cause I knew ahead to meet billy gibbons but what happens. Next is even more amazing. Can you believe it? He ended up running into him. Find Him they ended up jamming together for like eight hours because he was still speed he was still speed out of his brain but then he was like. Hey this is pretty good and he was like I know a bass player that you got to play with and that's how it happened. Yup Let me just say that The setting for the Documentary is also aces. They chose to do it in groomed hall in. Groom Texas the oldest Dance Hall in Texas into Beautiful Place and I guess to make the setting right and to be used as a backdrop for the documentary. They in there and did what they did when they first got together little thing. They called shuffled in see but when they first met the plate for like three hours right yeah. They played for like three hours on interrupt jamming on wonder if they recorded that out of curiosity. That first jammed together probably not. It's not like you know it's difficult in a ban just like when you were like you know or half our age and we're we're both musicians meeting the guys just feeling each other out. You're not really thinking about recording it for posterity. But what if you WANNA record it and then play it back and be like yeah? I really liked the chemistry. And just listen back to make sure they you know. That's a different thing altogether. That would be what I would think. Yeah I guess. A lot of people do that too. We don't think differently so that setting kind of drops in throughout the documentary. And I do again remind you to check it out on net. I still on there. And of course podcasts forevermark is. We've learned this so they you know whatever the current situation of treating finding in there also talking about once they got together. They knew they needed a new name and They go through the whole process. Which verifies the what you would call the urban legend of how they got their name from two different blues man a little bit because it was Z Z Hill is. Well that's easy to figure out how they got top was because the they wanted to be at the top wanted to be at the top of a poster. Bb King Yeah like bb King's. They tried that and it did work on their on their Earth King Now Z. Z. Top because they wanted to be on top of his bb king on the listing of bands. I understand that because you know what they're already three kings of the blues in Texas. And maybe they were smart and look what happened all this stuff and Z. Z. Top is even their logo now the eighties. Whatever stylized version of the eighties logo? You See. It's it's almost the standard everywhere with them. They changed it or altered here and there but They created something that will last longer than any of their original fans. Were them or even some of the kids that are finding the male or people like you who got into them when they were breaking in the eighties and your experience with Z. Z. Top is different than say mine. Who FOUND HIM IN THE EARLY SEVENTIES? I heard on a little bit on rock radio in the seventies but really it was the elimination the legs. The car piglets. The glam you know all the sparkly gold and silver that just kinda smacked in the head over and over on those. Yeah pieces to. And it wasn't Gordon or anything was far. Yeah they definitely took kept the fun in the Blues Verses You know. We know the blues to be heartbreaking saddened depressing music and it's something that they kind of regretted chunk of it clown upside. It turned that clown frown upside down. I know I hate to use that cliche. The sorry Paul is the imbalance history rock and roll. We're talking about Z. Z. Top trace hombres. Which is the name of their third record. That was clever traced using with three Ambriz third record but before we go there they get to experience something that doesn't exist really in the record business if you WANNA call it that anymore. They got do albums as artist development. You know the first record First Album and Rio Grande mud and trace hombres really those albums with them developing the sound that they would have later in their career laying basis for everything that would explode on. Fandango Josh Hami Mention and talked a little bit about the early days in the documentary as well as Billy Bob Thornton. Who were both prominent voices telling their stories of Z? Z. Top and Woodsy top meant to them through both their worlds as an Josh Hami. Being a very very competent student of rock and roll made some good points. But they talk about the Texas music in the Texas southbound and and the mystique behind them which I think was very important in creating their image and kind of introducing them to the world because people had this view back then of taxes. That wasn't necessarily positive. It was a good old boy view. It was constructed by people from Texas. So it wasn't like it came out of nowhere guys like Z. Z. Top had a work against what was considered the norm and at one point in the documentary dusty talks about being in a band with blue hair and long hair in that era before seizing top the sixties because of that. Just a good old boy. That kind of that kind of musical thing was in Vogue Way. More rock and roll.
