Marketing Your Self-Published Book With Awards
"So we're going to start out with number one awards programs now. This applies to some. Not all you probably saying. Hang on a second you just. You told me that. I'm going to do a book award now. The book awards could be my way of marketing. Absolutely believe it or not. There's a lot of book awards out. There that will showcase all of their winners on a site. They will share it across social media. Heck there's even some other marketing and promotional opportunities for instance. I've done a couple book awards where they've given me editorial reviews that could then use and other areas so that part was really kinda cool. You got to dig and sift through some of the awards to figure out what's going to be the best fit or you should get book award pro. I'm just going to go ahead. And just over that. Because i don't even have to think about it. I just leave them in charge of but the nice thing is you can sift through those book awards and see what you're you're gonna get for submitting. What could you get if you win. So moving forward number two remember. I mentioned editorial reviews whether it's going to be a place. You're going to go ahead. Showcase this on amazon author central. You're gonna want to showcase your award. Submissions or nominations. If you will and winnings if you've never done it before all you gotta do is just over. Two author central that's author dot amazon dot com. And you sign in with your katie p log in and such and you go to the specific book that you want to place it on now. Remember if you've got kendall paperback or hardcover you'd have three different listings. You're gonna wanna make sure you put all of your awards status on all three of those iterations it's not available yet for audio book There's other opportunities. We can do an audio book for for the most part if you want it. Put on a specific product page. Those three iterations are the way to go.

It's you know we are not used to speaking face to face anymore and you talk about going back to work. This is going to be one of the toughest things that we're going to have to face is that we don't have that screen anymore. We don't have that separation and so we and we've kind of lost our skills of being able to speak face to face and when somebody's right in front of you So i think we're going to face a lot of tough conversations and a lot of tough situations where we just don't quite know how to handle those conversations we're going to have to have

Affirm Soars on Amazon Partnership
"With the stock of the day and that is a firm holdings the by and buy now pay later business. Affirm is teaming up with young ecommerce site called amazon dot com affirms going to be a checkout option for certain amazon customers in the united states. Starting on friday. This is four purchases of fifty dollars or more and then those customers can if they want split. Those purchases up into smaller monthly installments shares of affirm. As of this moment are up forty four percent. Today i guess my first question is is that how good this news is forty four percent or is at least some of what we're seeing i. I'm sure there are a bunch of things that go into a stock spiked like this. But ultimately that's where i start with this like. How good is this for a firm. Well i mean it is really. It's very important news. I mean this isn't something that results in immediate tangible financial impact right. I mean there is still okay. Show me that this actually is gonna work. Show me the money so to speak. But for a business in a firm which generated around seven hundred fifty million dollars essentially in revenue over the last twelve months. It's a big deal in part of the part of the concern with firming. There'd been a couple of things with a firm that if you know they've been worth worth discussing a little bit right. I mean we saw the recent acquisition with school with the square buying after pay to get that presence into the buy now pay later and that's what a firm is known for two right. Buy now pay later in. The criticism has been that it more or less is a feature in not necessarily a business on its own

Shopping for the Web
"This season. We've been unpacking the longest year in tech history. Nineteen ninety five. The year our future began so much started in that time but few changes were more consequential than the advent of online shopping. In just a couple of decades it's grown from a handful of startups to a team of goliaths and we couldn't live without them. But as we'll see the dominance of certain online shops is only partly due to brilliant business maneuvers. Now like i said amazon is not the entirety of commerce but it is the big fish in the pond so let's begin their why in nineteen ninety five did amazon start delivering packages. What made it possible. And what's at founder. Jeff bezos on a path toward shipping billions of packages every year. He immediately understood the whole idea of transferring currency at making trades with this new use of this relatively new technology. The internet robert specter wrote the first book on amazon. It's called amazon dot com. Get big fast and that should tell you something about the amazon origin story. It's a story about capitalizing on a particular moment. Seizing the day in the early nineties. Basil's lived in manhattan. He was making more than a million bucks a year working at a hedge fund that relied on algorithms cutting at the time and it speaks to the sort of business. Basil's believed it. A data driven business and automated business. Meanwhile the hedge funds founder. David shaw adebayo's and a few others to look into this newfangled internet thing see what kind of opportunities were there. So jeff and other people looked at various product categories. In of all things books rose to the top as the most obvious product category. Why books

Biden Proposes $2 Trillion Investment in US Economy
"Joe biden on wednesday called for a sweeping use of government power to reshape the world's largest economy and counter china's rise in a two trillion dollar plus proposal that was met with swift republican resistance. The president's american jobs plan would put corporate america on the hook for the tab as the government creates millions of jobs building infrastructure such as roads tackle climate change and boosts human services like care for the elderly. It's a once in a generation investment in america. Unlike anything we've seen or done since. We built the interstate highway system and the space race decades ago biden said in unveiling the program in pittsburgh. He said he had no problem. Asking companies to foot the bill and is going to put an end to amazon. Dot com inc and other major companies paying little to nothing in federal taxes biden second multi trillion dollar legislative proposal. In two months in office sets the stage for a partisan clash in the us congress when members largely agree that investments are needed but a divided on the total size and inclusion of programs traditionally seen a social services another economic proposal binomial release in april could add a further two trillion dollars to the total price tag coupled with his recently enacted one point nine trillion dollar corona virus. Relief package biden's infrastructure initiative would give the federal government a bigger role in the us economy than it has had in generations accounting for twenty percent to a more of annual output. Biden's team believes a government directed effort to strengthen the economy is the best way to provide support to an economy walloped by the coronavirus pandemic and contend with increased competition and a national security threat posed by china

Tech Stocks Sink in Early Trading as Bond Yields Climb Again
"Let's get over to Dave Wilson. Right now. He is in the studio with a look at stocks. Dave We're not seeing a lot of movement on the index is, but what do you see under the hood? Well, I mean, you've kind of got big tack on one side and big banks on the other. That's how things are kind of lining up in early trading. So you look at what's lower in the S and P 500. You see technology Chris Apple Microsoft fitting in their communications services, Google's owner, alphabet as well as Facebook, and then that consumer discretionary category where you find Amazon dot com and Tesla's so you know, that's one side of the coin. The other side's what's going on with the banks. You know, we're seeing Bond yields move up and bank stocks kind of going along for the ride, and we should point out yesterday. KBW Bank Index, which tracks 24, the largest U. S. Lenders, broke a record that had stood since February. 2007. So it's like the banks are finally getting out from under the shadow of the financial crisis. If you look at their share prices, and by the way that KBW index is up 2% today, and we're seeing gains of on that magnitude from JP Morgan Bank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo and Maura's, So you know, it looks like You know, we kind of got, you know, the kind of classic on the one hand on the other going on in early trading. And what you get out of that, in terms of the broader market is not a whole lot of direction mean some weakness, But you know, the S and P 500 actually coming off its early lows at the moment. Have to have a guess. What we've seen today is another example of that trade We've seen recently. You know what bond prices trade off interest rates push higher, and that brings the NASDAQ down with it. We're seeing that again today. Oh, yeah. I mean, that's you know, sort of how things are lining up at the moment on them beyond that, though, I mean, you look at utilities in real estate, you talk about the areas most sensitive to higher rates. They're actually up a bit. In early trading. You look at their S and P index is higher by three tents for percent. So you know that's kind of uninterested contrast and you know, they kind of puts them in the metal, arguably between big tank and big banks and big tech
Rise above the cloud: Amazon's new chief executive
"Thank you for standing by good day. Everyone and welcome to the amazon dot com hugh thousand and twenty financial results yesterday as it does. Every three months amazon held an earnings call it detailed a record quarter. The firm reported more than one hundred billion dollars in sales for the first time then came another disclosure today. We announced our founder and ceo. Jeff jesus will transition to the role of executive chair in the third quarter of this year. Jeff bezos at one time. The richest man in the world will step away from the helm of the company. He founded we'll mostly. I will reiterate that jeff is not leaving. He is getting a new job. He's going to be executive chair of board super important. Rolled order super. His successor will be andy jesse. A twenty year amazon veteran and head of amazon web services the company's enormous cloud computing arm since its founding. Mr bezos has insisted amazon continued to act like a feisty startup and he reiterated his catchphrase in a letter announcing the transition saying it remains day. One in fact it's day nine. Thousand seven hundred or so company has a goodly handful of challenges. That weren't around on day. One were the news. That jeff bezos is stepping back from day to day management. Amazon is a complete surprise. Patrick fouls the economists business affairs editor before the pandemic taken a backseat role. Then he returned to day to day management to deal with the huge surge in business the amazon sore during twenty twenty. He had two successes on the table. One of whom signaled he would leave the company so it was all set up for management transition but the exact timing of that wasn't clear until we've just had an how did amazon whether the the huge surge in business that the challenges that the twenty twenty brought well it's obviously been at the absolute halt of the digital surge. We've seen in the economy in two ways. First of all the e commerce machine. It runs both selling it so in product directly and doing logistics for other firms seen an enormous boom and business but also critically it's cloud thing business is behind a lot of the digital services we've been using from zoom to streaming services on the tv. So it's been absolutely central really to the economists response to the lockdown pandemic. He's about to say that. Mr basis is going out on a high note. I think he is in several ways. I mean you can judge by the financial performance of the company and its valuation which is close to an all time high. I think you can judge it by a also the social contribution. The foams made i mean. It's very controversial business. People were accused of being monopoly of exploiting workers and so on. But i think you can say that over the last year it's also showing that it's really an essential part of many people's lives and i'm sure. Jeff bezos will be thinking about last as he talks his departure but the say threats out there for amazon regulators. Continue to scrutinize it more than ever yesterday. The ftc one of these regulators reached a settlement with amazon for sixty million dollars. It'd been accused of believable more shortchanging drivers over tips and this continual pushback on labor regulation conditions of workers and there's also actually some nascent signs of competition from big firms like walmart which are finally getting their act together on digital. Well you mentioned that regulatory scrutiny which is also been directed at the likes of google and apple mr base is was one of the last founders to still be leading the tech giant he founded. I mean how significant is it to you that he's stepping aside here us right. The big five tech companies in america the have come to dominate its stock market and to some degree. Corners of its economy is now only one founder. Left in the hot seat mark zuckerberg and he's in a very hot seat indeed given facebook's problems so it does feel like it marks. Perhaps in you era when these huge companies have reached a point of dominance and yet some of the big questions that that has created remain unanswered will government. Break them up will. New competitors eventually arise and will be able to keep the same spirit of dynamism the propelled them to the success going for decades to come.
Why the Cost of Shipping Goods From China Is Suddenly Soaring
"So joe i have something to admit to you. Boy arrigo okay. I'm worried you're going to think less of me. There's no chairs of that. Just just home right tracy. So one of my long held ambitions in life is to travel via containership perfectly a long journey across the pacific. Yeah i think. I know someone who did that. I think i know someone who went from japan to the us as a traveler on a industrial Contender show yeah. It's something you can do. Or i should say you were able to do it before the global pandemic. I'm sure it's not allowed right now for many reasons Obviously you have restrictions on travel. You have border restrictions but the other big reason is that global shipping is kind of just a massive moment right that's related to the pandemic the supply chain disruptions. And of course they've been happening for about a year now but they don't seem to be Abating egg the general disruptions that we've seen i mean the world seems to be getting by and maybe we haven't had as severe shortages of things we might have feared last spring but are still all kinds of reports about how sort of messed up. Yeah and i think people were expecting it to get better so as you mentioned when the pandemic i started we saw a bunch of countries suddenly closed their borders and this meant that ships that were supposed to head somewhere and then head somewhere else were all sort of knocked out a place so it takes a long time to get them back into position and to get them on the routes that they're supposed to be going but now what we're seeing. Is that even almost a year on from the start of the pandemic at least in china. This problem seems to be getting worse. And i'm looking at a headline on bloomberg right now saying that surging. Shipping rates are new headwind for the global economy. So it's gotten so bad that we could actually feel an outsized economic impact from all of this. Yeah you know. It's funny like when when the crisis hit there. Were a lot of talk here in the us. About oh are we gonna start reassuring more of our manufacturing. We're gonna buy less from china over time and maybe that'll happen at some point. Who knows but in the meantime people are spending a lot on commerce. They're buying things. They're buying things from walmart. Dot com and amazon dot com and a lot of those things come from china so there is an extraordinary amount of demand for imports ship from china. I don't think there's as much going in the other direction. And i think that's sort of like part of the story. Is that although there's been this. Revival of economic activity is not the same patterns as it was before and so this sort of like equilibrium stability of global Global supply lines is has not been established yet.

"Available. I'm sure on amazon dot com and all those normal places, But do you but over and above what you have just said. Do you offer any kind of hope for us in 2021, or we you know again. I think people want to hear what you what you think just where we're going other than we need to speak up and and not cower anymore. I think yes, I think there is hope there is hope. "On Amazon dot com and they said that they've done it before and even beyond that some of the stuff that these people sell is which straight out of a dumpster these just dusted off for white down right and then it goes up on Amazon right what they do is they typically think they actually go at night after the stores close into the dumpster and me retrieve the items in a clean them up some go as far as picture grab these items in the world and from them into an Amazon warehouse where it's listed on the site and then somebody goes on saying it looks like a typical item typically with the prime package and then you can check your doorstep Jeez are you allowed to do that by the way dumpster dive behind the stores building for property I think it's a bit of a gray area there are some town ordinances that prevent it but if it's not explicitly stated it's a little bit of a gray area well all right so if you do you and your colleagues did some experimenting on your own to with regards to this like you know how easy is it to sell stuff on Amazon that second third hand or just garbage I guess what you find what you do we wanted to test out the Amazon screening process and also just the claims of several of these dollars but it's really easy to go into a store trashcan incline these items can be able to listen to what we did was we went to several towns in New Jersey and we went down through diving we treat retrieved thousands of items out of the dancers on the stories he went to work trader Joe's Michael's and we found a lot of items that look like they could pass as new from those dumpsters and so three of them we listed on the site and one was a piece of scrap of paper stencils that and a jar of lemon curd from the trader Joe's dumpster well the Kurd I presume was on open right now would nobody goes that far I guess or do they one of my colleagues he actually it's looks emitted a really deep analysis of Amazon reviews and there are reviews on several products to indicate that people do receive unsealed sticky blemish items all the time so when they're trying to sell it and passing it off as new with that's deceptive it's different if you just say hi fi I don't know I acquired this Montel however you would say it one of the things that we heard was that Amazon doesn't ask you where you got it from it's kind of up for interpretation whether the item is new and at the time when we did our experiment and schools are stored Amazon which is lost mine they didn't have an explicit rule prohibiting the sale of trash leader on actually decided he does the work the Friday actually but the four story was published he contacted us and told us that they had now updated the policy to explicitly prohibit the sale of trash and in the next day they shut down our store thanks Kitty to could you just after our reporter at the Wall Street journal thirty minutes now after the hour on this morning America's first news social media is has brought out the ego maniacs in a lot of thank you for all the wonderful work to do least we promise not to post any bathroom selfie except for that one you absolutely correct I listen to you for years thanks so much for being one of the few sources of truth in media today I'm actually and I wish you every day esos news radio six nine this.
