"So those three guys will be there. They're pretty much their depth than you know. Going up against the bulls who they're going to be playing another guy. Patrick williams top five pick last year. Probably won't play the whole summer league. But i think we saw his offensive game start to emerge a little bit towards the end of last season. Couple that with a quite a few young players that they have that they're going to be a pretty good team at least enough today to to take care of the new orleans. Pelicans who really have much depth. Yes so maybe look to fade the pelicans throughout this summer league. Anything else on biggest. I mean there's topsy ton stand out players maybe later in the week and we do our later show. We can get some Actually specific like getting getting into a slate of summer league games with all the time that i any other takeaways or things. You guys want to mention on vegas summer league real quick. The chicago squad. Jalen adams is a bucket. Doesn't really play defense. But as i said earlier this summer leagues in about defense. Aol dot to sumo Second round pick out of illinois like going to be a beach jerome robinson. Got some decent time for the wizards last year And put up some really good fantasy number. So i think he would obviously be a a really good pickup in terms of like planning summer league and then amari spelman who from villanova kind of in and out of the league but definitely has nba pedigree. So i mean. I think that this squad has way more talent around them Than the pelicans. Squad but yeah One also mentioned is a coral looked. really good. so like the cleveland. The cleveland cavaliers. Curious to see how evan mobile kind of comes about. I think we saw his size. He's definitely light in the ass. A little bit like that is going to have to hit the weight room but i think we saw what the upside of globally is but is like a coral looks like. He's going to be a hooper. So watch out for cleveland If he's going to continue to play. I get he'll i bet he'll be shut down towards the end of the summer league. Yes sir without take one final break here and we're gonna come back with some closing thoughts where we get out of here as episodes also brought to you by paramount. Plus the summer of soccer continues on paramount plus.
Warriors deal Russell to Wolves, get back Wiggins
"For people that missed it. The warriors and Timber Wolves agreed on trade us in the Ngelo Russell Jacob Evans in Amari spelman to Minnesota for Andrew Wiggins a a top three protected twenty twenty one first round pick and a twenty twenty two second round pick. I like to steal from Minnesota. I think Karl Anthony towns and de Ngelo. They're obviously good friends. And that's big because towns it's been very frustrated recently but again let's get back to what the warriors got back in return. I'm not a big Fan. I'm not a fan of that that contract but I guess when you're the warriors they're already a situation where a lot of their guys are locked up so I understand that for them. It doesn't matter as much for another team they just Trying to add a guy that can help them on both ends of the floor and the contract isn't as big of a deal for them. But I just think with twenty-three-year-old all-star which is what Russell was he. He was an all star last year. I just don't think that's enough to get back in return. I do like that. They got the draft pick again. Talk Re protected. Twenty twenty. One should be a much better draft twenty twenty based on what the experts are all saying so in top. You're protected. I mean this Minnesota team made it could finish between four and ten could end up being lottery picked so I do think that is very valuable. That's my favorite part of the acquisition here for the warriors I just feel like with wiggins. He's been so disappointing. Maybe maybe they feel like they can help him reach us well potential. We know they've done a very good job of developing guys. They have great leader as a strong culture which may really help someone like wiggins. This could be totally wrong around here. I will admit that maybe wiggins goes there and this is exactly what he needed to reach us and become a better player in guys like Steph and clay and dream on push push him. I just feel like how did they wait until the offseason because they couldn't afford to be patient here. There really wasn't a sense of urgency. I would like to see if there were different offers or different teams that kind of came to the table. I just don't think this is the kind of package that you pounce on when you have a great trade ship and again twenty-three-year-old all-star and no roe pressure to make a move now so but I it is newsday what you're saying. Though had Russell and curry not work together you think that Russell's trade value could have diminished. So I see what you're saying. I'm just not a big Fan. I think that's my problem here. Yeah and I think for Minnesota standpoint It's a very interesting gamble. Because of course they want him as a free agent right and it's always nice to be able to sign a young player like that. If you get the right opportunity comes along but they miss out. It's so let's remember that to make this deal happen. They basically had to ship out Jeff Teague for basically nothing it trade Covington to get some assets assets kinda like sweet things up and they have to wind up trading wiggins out. It's actually make this deal happen with golden state so I don't WANNA say Minnesota gutted their assets but they actually you. You know invest in quite a bit to get Russell. Now the upside to doing that is you're gonNA have a very exciting offensive oriented team where you've got your best players are both all three point shooters with Karl Anthony towns and Diangelo Russel and they should fit together. Great in pick and roll it could pop situations right so for a fan base. That's been through a lot here. Typical era the Jimmy Butler you know You know being upset a few years ago in the long losing streak this year. I think there are some genuine hope and optimism with that pairing between those two guys. But I think my concern is that they really have stripped out a lot of their other proven talent around them and I think that both those guys are just minus defenders and that part it makes me nervous right. Because you know if you're trying to picture these guys is like this inside outside duo right well you want at least one of them to be a plus defender. And I don't think that's it's ever GonNa Happen for either one of those guys and so now it creates some roster challenges where you have to go out and target some other perimeter defenders guys who can help cover up for Russell in towns so that you can at at least be you know average on the defensive end. If you WANNA be a winning team so I guess long story short I think they invested an awful lot of assets. Just make this Russell thing happened and I'm not totally extolled. That he's the right guy to pair with towns but big picture. They did the most important thing which is keep Karl Anthony towns happy. He's their franchise guy he's been disgruntled. You you know for for months now because of all this losing and so I think they do get a short term went out of that.

"We have a very big one Adrian. We're now ski tweeting. The Angelo wrestle is going to the Minnesota Timberwolves four Andrew Wiggins. Wow look at this. We also have a twenty one. twenty-one Protected First Round Pick Twenty twenty two second round pick warriors will send also Jacob Evans Amari Spelman to the timber wolves as well Brian Brian. That's a huge win for the wolves because what the wools wanted to do with the reasons for slowing down. They did not want to give their twenty twenty first-round first round pick unprotected a couple of days ago. That was the kind of deal that Golden State wanted. They won't take but they wanted to be incentivized with multiple picks including this year's pick which we know is going to be very good for the wolves to be able to make this deal without having to give up their pick this year. He's just a tremendous deal completely energizes. That team really changes their outlook. Especially considering they still have other assets that they did and Robert Covington deal is going to Golden State Paul Dangelo Russell. Finally united with Karl Anthony Towns and Minnesota. This is huge absolutely. I mean they won't get off Andrew Wiggins contract huge contract and they'll get flexibility down the road because the Angelo Russell doesn't have the the years on his as wiggins the they're not going anywhere this year and we all know that so. Brian said it gives them flexibility the future from a player's perspective. Karl Anthony towns was not happy. Happy to send it out vases. The other night Robert Covington goes away. Talks Jackson Locker Room about how this is. Fran now he gets Dangelo.

Grizzlies' Andre Iguodala situation is ugly, but this is how the trade game is played
"The trade deadline is Thursday and by the way do you have an opinion on de Angelo Russell I I got to tell you this at first I was completely in favor of moving him but having gone to a few games Polly being is the partial season ticket holder and fill up man he is a beautiful score he really is and maybe the idea of him and clay and stuff on the same team is kind of intriguing you know not the roster destruction be interesting but right now the timber wolves aren't offering enough so the ways do you have to make a move though to get under attacks line otherwise have to pay a forty million dollar fine I think a lake of even as much as he likes his who concerts in his post Malone concerts and he's not looking to pay forty mil right so Alec Burks could move a blend Robinson could move yeah Amari Spelman could move Jacob everything will come on Looney could move by you gotta wonder what his future is I mean it's unfortunate because he was became such a dependable player for Steve Kerr but I mean I don't know is is he ever going to get back but the real story planned out is with our old pal Andrea you get done yeah how about this is a really weird story he hasn't played a minute from Memphis this year and by the way I think he's making like seventeen Mill seventeen seventeen Mill and I am a little unclear I've tried to read up in much again yeah one clear as to how he can just stay away like is there something in the CBA were like no you gotta come play for is like the guy in office space is again just not going to work anymore I'm just not going under you've missed a lot of games I wouldn't exactly say missing at and I by the way when it when Andriy does come back and go to practice the question is does he clean of fish on newspaper in the locker room do does the does god can offer yeah so anyway so they're going to try to move him and get some for him chained to a veteran team and now the Memphis Grizzlies having a surprisingly good here the twenty five and twenty five they actually hold the eight spot right now they do they got young players like John Moran and they got Dillon Brooks and Dillon Brooks finally just yesterday said you know what we young guys on the Grizzlies a few Andre staying away yeah you can email this
"amari spelman" Discussed on KNBR The Sports Leader
"In Freddie on KNBR six eighty these sports leader we'll get into our verbally under yes man for it in just a minute but joining us on the my gas line is the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks Lloyd Pierce joins us good friend of Franny and of course the war years just made a deal with the hawks bringing bringing Amari Spelman to Golden State or Damian Jones and a twenty twenty six second round pick and Lloyd is with us say Lloyd how are you good idea though L. T. your way we too awake right now to be in Vegas seriously it's very good to flee from either for the the earthquake here for both earthquake that my model staff they become crazy because I just sat there and I was like well you have everyone outside of California thinks earthquakes are the most devastating thing in the last fifteen seconds and I'll know we you are you are you guys hello momentum going Travis Schlenk Danny Martinez lot of a lot of for all your people out in Atlanta doing their thing and and the the trade came down you know first of all the summer league is just exploded it's amazing the growth of the of summer league I was watching lawyers Lakers last night on the two but it's it's amazing how many people are into it but the deal came down yesterday and the the war years can't Amari Spelman and you guys get Damien Jones give his Sir give a full breakdown on this deal from your perspective you know for us it's it's you know we're we're still getting another young guy we just acquired Jabbar Parker has a backup for which created a little bit of a log jam for Mari and we needed some depth at the five spot which gives us an opportunity to go get someone like Damien who you know still young just finished a thirty year most of our guys are in their second and third year so he fits our time line well but you know we have a dynamic point guard is really good and take a role we show Damien's gonna have an opportunity to grow in his career playing with Terry playing with some of our guys and and and and given this opportunity that the ram which is his strength when you go from you know coach in college Santa Clara then you go into is like just the scouting world and and working with the warriors and and all these other guys to see where these college players are coming out now and how you know how far in advance they are like a tree young are are you are you surprised to see the growth from the for the first time you came in early to now I think it's different how many do you can start with the high school guys now you know so many players that are in high school right now that are just ridiculously advanced in their skill set I think that the biggest growth there's still a little bit of a let down in terms of their understanding of how to play the game understanding of the winning basketball the nuances of it but the individual talent the lack the size the lane the bill used to the boiling add stats improve tremendously for for the young guys Hey Willie tell us a little bit about Spelman model your fans obviously you're eager to see what he can do for Golden State we someone a national championship at Villanova and Eric paschal played with them there but if you give us your thoughts on him you know they actually some similarities within America asco you know two guys out of Villanova that bring toughness in intensity Dow they play G. right as an unbelievable job at battling over to get those guys to play that way Amari shot forty three percent are coming out of college and and shot a good number you know you do he didn't finish the year because of injury but I think he was in the thirty six thirty seven percent range from three so you get a big can step out behind the three point line and knock down some three you got a big they're going to get some office three rounds he plays with a lot of emotion in a lot of intensity connect four years in the second year he still has to improve upon those things we'll figure out you know how to adjust and play with the rest of the NBA but you definitely have the skill set that's going to be unique you know the the one thing that you said earlier about like just the young guys and coming up in it and it goes with the Mari Spelman Eric Pascal is that coming from winning programs in and they know how to win right the dream on green came out of Michigan state he was in the final four every year he knew how to win how it like when you got the on three hundred you got the rights to him this year how important was that he played for number one team a national championship team obviously talent takes over everything but plane for a title contender every year in college is that important in the growth in the NBA for you and for us as were built in our roster and we're and we're doing it organically to the draft we're gonna require talent and I think that that that's the beauty of its very young of the talents are calling to the tower cameras to the talent the underrated talent you also want to acquire some other things as well guys that have a defense of background you know down with ACC defensive player of the year you want to acquire some guys that know what will being feels like Andy Andrea hunter one the the national championship so it's one thing to have a bunch of guys that can score in someone's got to defend some of a rebound someone's got to make the extra pass someone understand the opponents that and so I think we have a little bit of that with the Andre who comes from a winning programs one an actual championship who is a deep it's a player year which shows a lot about it mentality in its approach to the game yeah I think some golden state's perspective they love the fact that they get three years a control with with Amari Spelman so they get three years to kinda get him role in and they also get a guy who can space the floor and shoot the three mention forty three percent shooting the three ball that final year at at Villanova but one of his issues is just gonna be like many of us you know keeping his weight in in shack I suppose we got up into the mid to nineties that this is a guy who's a tremendous basketball player and has a lot of fire but he's got to be committed to the fitness part of it in keeping that way down how much of a challenge do you think that's going to be for him I think anytime you're dealing with a young player it's not even what the issue is this the discipline in the routine of knowing the rigors of an NBA season we played a two game play five preseason games and you know you guys are used to being impulse even for a couple months after so you can get into the triple digits in terms of games played you're gonna have a lot of issues whether it's injury whether it's weight whether it's eating whether it's sleeping for a young player they have to understand those things are coming regardless and how you handle it is always a challenge and so I think the beauty of it is the Mars gone through a year where he was hurt and now we trying to keep himself in shape he's trying to get himself back in say coming off of an injury and it's not easy and so because you've already done it I think he now is aware of how serious that can be and how difficult it can be if you're not doing the right thing you're not in the training room after the game you're not you know making sure you're getting rest at night and so it's going to be a challenge I just think well hopefully this year was beneficial to him to realize that things are gonna happen now what what's your approach to to make sure that you you're avoiding situations as often as you can was a big for you the fact that like Omari went through all that stuff and you know being injured being a bigger guy obviously not the talent but you have any experience with your own bead in Philadelphia seen him through his injury and how he had to prep himself to be able to stay on the court was that it factor in you know in being able to talk to him in a and get the message across to own well you know there's a lot of guys that reach out and want to offer advice you know when you have young guys and and and I think so well situation with the same in Asia to injury the new deal with a guy that's growing he's constantly getting bigger and stronger but yet he's affected been dominant and on the court he's still going to use all the playoffs with yeah well and and and just trying to stay on the court in trying to be active for every game and be a hundred percent it's not a one year deal with the rest of your career how do you manage this that this is what separates the elite players from just the average guy these guys that that you see consistently producing insulin up they take care of her body they take care of their approach to the game and and and they have a routine that that works we're trying to Lloyd peers head coach the Atlanta Elena hawks on the Yuma gas line in joining us from Las Vegas the side of the NBA summer league which is probably the most popular new was sporting event going right now you don't not seen as the City College some really get that yeah it's little bit bigger deal better not their role to solve the issue because I I was talking about that's what I grew up on what I'm talking about there are every year do you know it's funny we just saw one of the most dramatic off seasons in the history of American sports sway with what we saw in the NBA in the last couple weeks about a third of the T. of the players forty percent yeah we profanity and mia and free agency assistant change teams including like ten of the top twenty players in the league and a mouse talking to somebody yesterday was tight in the league and said you know what there's going to be about ten to twelve teams that show up in training camp with real belief that they can win the NBA finals and that for this guy's perspective he thinks it's a it's a huge positive what do you think I know a lot of the young people will love the movement of the player move or.

"Thousand Oaks to order beer from the source go to their website, the dudes brew dot com, we're going to do ask, I'm going to a couple of quick ones to kind of wet the pallet here. Real quick. And then we'll do some more on the other side Daniels in Sherman oaks been holding on patiently. Daniel, go ahead. So I have to weigh in, in terms of magic. I don't know why everyone is coming to his defense, quite frankly. We all know he was not in the office, and that's a job in which you have to be there. Twenty four seven I feel like we've heard from a more after all these aspects than when he was actually in his role in job. It'd be one thing, if he came on it, just it during free agent talks, he'd be great at that. But the reality is he signed up for something, he didn't put forth which was the there every day and bring the Lakers two new level. Personally, I believe that he realized that he is this guy that he's going to run into two aspects one being the Lakers are gonna make the playoffs next year. Whether they signed someone, or not, and people are going to say, well, you left and clearly you or the issue or alternative, who they're going to crash, and burn. And now he's going to be faced with the question of you left us. This is your fault. I think he's trying to pick up the pieces, and quite frankly, we don't know if he is a great GM and the one who drafted cow, coups much Josh heart view. The other guys will those guys I think we're ready. We're. We're well scouted before they those. I mean, remember they got here in February and the draft, you know, the March madness is was right around the corner, so they still made the call. They had to. But most of the stuff the scouting in the hard work was done already when they got here. And by the way, this lasts draft was not good. And there was something in back their story about that, which put poor Josh heart in a tough spot. His former teammate Amari Spelman from Villanova now plays for the hawk. Yes. And I heard that story if you didn't read the story that as, as the tail goes, which we well, bunch of us had heard is that on draft night, or before the draft, the Lakers board was supposedly Amari Spillman. I Mitchell Robinson second and MOVA third. And then when the pick was made it was mo- Wagner. And so everybody went like what so some of the coaches were like, wait a minute. We thought it was. We thought it was going to be on Murray Spillman, then they were told that, rob. It said, oh, well, we got some information from Josh heart that Mari was kind of like out of out of shape, and it was his at fitness issues. I'm going gonna lazy. And so when somebody went to ask Josh heart, Josh Hart said what? No. Why would I ever say that about like my Villanova gonna come up next? We're gonna open it up as Rome. All right. You got Lakers questions. Now's the time eight seven seven seven Jenny SPN eight seven seven seven three seven six we play. In addition of ask Bom in three and a half minutes..

"The you have a guy that's not going to be ready. So the other that deadman desperate to establish can play the four and he's done. That at timeless say when Collins has gotten in trouble or something like that. Deadman's shooting has been really really good at using thirty eight percent three point shooter on the air and he shooting volume. I mean, it's not like he's shooting a shot here or there. I think he's averaging about three and a half three point attempts for game. And and what I've seen too is is a little bit more evolution his game recently when the defender is actually closing out hard. And this is something, you know, when dead mckim to the hawk she never thought of them as even taking that shot. And then now, you think of it more as a spot up, you know, spacer kinda shooter. Now, they're they're running at them. They're closing out of him. He's actually been able to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim or even makes diesel passes. You know, when he draws second offender so to me Denman's another guy that has a bit of a quirky personality. That's you know, some teams would find a little off putting not a negative guy. He's just just it's just quirky. You know, and may not be an ideal fit in every locker room and on every roster. But he's been. Very good. Offensive player for them. And he's been a decent defensive player in for the right price for a year or two hour. If I were the hawks I would absolutely look at bringing him back. But if he's out there shopping for a three year deal, it may be a little bit tougher to consider going that route for the hawks. Yeah. The example, I would use as a as a precaution is really stupid contract that Ilke gave and the walkie did really well overall and the all season, but to give or sunny Sova to guaranteed years that a partial guarantee and a third year when I have no doubt in my mind that he was not going to get anything more than a one year deal from but any other twenty nine teams in the league and that contract truly is problematic. When you look at kind of they they've decided to the pay Bledsoe Middleton's going to be a free agent. He'll decide if he wants to stay or go, I would suppose, but there considerations for hitting the hard cap and some scenarios etcetera etcetera. And so I would agree with you that it if they can get view it as. As like a two year contract. And that he's highly movable on this year the contract if these the app or debit and wants it to happen. That would be a good for them. I think that just Amari Spelman watching him working watching him play hard at that position. I is is good to to really challenge. Spillman to earn those minutes what you need to do. Because spellings going to have more value at the five position for not all of his medicine the floor, but probably more than fifty percent of his minutes. And last question on the hawks. Greg is a coach yourself bound Lloyd pierces job this year, or what you done. Well, what's what does he need you to get better at next year? The I think the best thing that he's done is really he has their minds in the right place. He and he he demands that they play a certain way, and he he does not tolerate not playing a certain way. And that is pushing the ball playing together. In working hard, hustling movie your feet, you can make mistakes we playing for Loyd peers if you learning a growing evolving, but if it's just a matter of a lack of focus a lack of effort, he he doesn't tolerate it. We saw that in summer league this year what he's not even coaching the summer league team. But he's there in the hawk similarly team. I don't remember who they were playing. I think it was Portland. They put together a absolutely pathetic first-half effort in similarly, and he went into the locker room, and what them know that that was not how the hawks are gonna play basketball, and they came out and actually had a massive comeback. I don't know if they can't have just short or actually won that game..

"But I do think that what they valued in free agents was a mistake in that they opened the door for this type of a problem hit some questions real quick. How would you valuate magic and Pelinka's ability to evaluate players? So far are thought that they have done pretty well in the draft. Heart was good kouzmine. Obviously was good. You know, even spe- in Banga have shown something as second rounders in this last year. So that's. Has been solid thought the Casey p signing despite the whole, oh, they're just doing it for LeBron those he's still been a solid enough signing for them. But obviously the free agent signings this year did not work out. Although even though I think some of those guys chevelle actually was a good signing. They've gotten good production from him, the even if he's gonna fall off the rest of the year of knees. He's been starting level of contributed for them for the middle. And that's pretty good. But Beasley has just wasn't what this team needed and just wasn't even playing. That's just a huge opportunity cost to pay the agai three point five million. I think is what it was Lance as well. I mean, that's seven million dollars of guys who just are basically not valuable on the team when LeBron is healthy. I do think so much of what is going on with his team though has just occurred because LeBron James it's hurt for month. I mean things were actually going fine before he got hurt. I mean, they're looking like at one point they were. Might pick to be the second best team in the west in the playoffs. And that still not Bosnian. Houston is played better. Denver is sustained. Okay. Sees look good. But we'll see how these guys look when LeBron is really back in playing regularly. But in who they ended up getting a marketed cetera. But you I think the sexually could end up going fine. Eventually, so I think there is a little bit too much doom and gloom about the jobs that they've done. But still, you know, they they waited some cash some of these guys Rondo I mean, he's been injured so Chuck to evaluate his signing. I don't think that they've really missed it much when he's been out though. Although I think when healthy he's looked a little better than I thought he would I want to mention two other guys that I think are part of this picture, they cut Thomas Bryant. And while I agreed with that at the time. He's having a pretty damn good year in Washington. It's another reminder of just how replaceable centers can be. And maybe they did miss something in him. And then also I saw Movado in person in that that warriors game. And there is a player. In there that I find compelling, you know, his he's feisty has. He he's more active defensively. Still don't, you know love the physical tools there but drafting him at twenty five especially when you consider where the league is going what this team needs over any number of different players. I mean, having shooter like Shamet next LeBron and all I I didn't know sham. It's game. Well, enough before end of more of a physical talent like Robert Williams or Mitchell Robinson. I just feel like that. That was a rare misread for them in that late. I really second area. Yeah. There's not that many guys drips from the that six in sham. It was considered a reach at the point Williams. I think could have been nice, but they'd gotten the same stuff from travel and Williams has been it out of the lineup and had his own character concerns Amari Spelman, you know, I mean, I like what he's done more than Wagner. But those are somewhat similar players. You know, the point guards that were drafted early in the second. Melvin Frazier hasn't really played really you'd have to go down. Onto Mitchell Robinson to me to find someone who was like, oh, man that clearly would have been better than Wagner. I agree with you that Wagner. I didn't like the big at the time to just the type of player that he is. Maybe not just how well he actually fulfills what he's supposed to be..

"At certainly looking more and more like last year was quite the outlier for him. And Atlanta John Collins sprained his ankle during their win over the next. Knicks are getting waxed. Lately, they got killed by the sons they lost pretty handling the hawks. Both those gains were at home. So they are on the path to being right in the conversation for the number one pick Atlanta, tough match-up in Detroit today with Collins going to be out Amari Spelman is also out and they don't really have any power forwards to guard. Blake Griffin's be curious to see what they're gonna do their last segment now wanted to talk a little bit about reaction to our top ten prospects list. I showed it to a lot of personnel evaluators that I talked to regularly that I trust at the showcase even so there's probably going to be a little bit a group thinking that that's the weakness of this process. Is that generally guys who don't think the same as I do, you know, generally, kind of the more ex player, not as analytically focus executives. I don't talk to those guys quite as much there just less likely to listen to the show, and and less likely to know who I am less likely to form a connection. I know. Some of those guys. But generally, these are more guys who think kind of the way you, and I do, but who are some of the comments we got you'll recall that Luca Danni was third it at the end. This is my rankings here. But he was third on the list at the top of the second tier the most common common was that. He actually should be moved up. He should be in the same tier with towns it and Yokich and and had the highest upside may be of anyone on the list. Jaren jackson. I thought some people might say he should be a lot higher. That was not the case. You know, they thought he was number seven on the list of the top tier three for me. I thought that was kinda about right? One of the big concerns about him right now is defensive rebounding is really bad, and that's playing next to a guy Marcus oil who's kind of been more of a box out guy. Anyway. And so if Jackson's gonna play Senator he's gonna have to get a lot better on the defensive glass owes one thing that was brought up to me Jaren FOX at number nine at the top of tier four another was that he should be a lot higher that someone said he could see him being the best point guard in the league in a few years, and that's not impossible to me. Either. Think the reason I showed a little bit more caution with him as just I think someone what he's doing is based on shooting that maybe little unsustainable. If he puts in a whole year shooting the ball like this. I think he will be a lot higher next year. But I certainly understood that comment of that he should be hired because he, you know, he's been absolutely fantastic this year unsurprisingly, you know, I had into your four honorable mention and again to be very clear when you're saying that and my cheer for overall was during FOX Jamal Murray. Jaylen Brown Dennis Smith, Devon Booker, byles Turner. And trae young what I'm saying. There is that it's pretty much splitting hairs between those guys. I had to put him in some sort of were, but you can make a good argument for any of them being higher within that tier was my thought, but Dennis Smith was the thought was that he was too high and he's been slowed down by injuries some this year as I explained my philosophy is that I value ultimate upside in these lists, maybe more than a lot of people..

"Plus eight point nine Alex, Len plus point to Jeremy Lin, plus eight point seven we will not get into sanity kind of fragmenting the fan base. A little bit of Carter plus point nine trae young minus sixteen point nine Taurean prince very disappointed minus twelve so Greg. The game starts here in a bit. So I'll let you kind of get through your responding. Well, the hawks some of the key thing to talk about is what really matters this year. I mean are they in tank mode? I mean, I mean, I guess if anybody's in Tena take mode, but as our friend Brad Rowland and says quite often. Brad role at Peachtree hoops. And locked on. Hawks says players coaches, don't think. They're they're definitely rebuilding. So what matters is here. Trae young matters this year, and it's not about how. Well, he plays this year. It's about how he progresses and develops and grows. Now, I think we can talk about some takeaways. There's other things about Kevin heard matters this year, Mari spell matters as your Chari and France matters here. They're going to have some decisions to make in the next twelve to twenty four months on Taurean prince and same with Dionne J berry. They're going to have some decisions to make on the job Emory. Alex Lynn, you know, he's been a nice little surprise, no player so far. But the guys the matter are John Collins trae young Kevin herder Amar spokesman Tari prints and the Andrea Bray so Collins has been hurt. It's only play three games. Now. I two games. I think there's net rating was like off the charts so far too small sample size. He's played really really well. And he's out there. Kevin herder is been. Offensively. He's gifted player. But defensively he's been a pleasant surprise. But still along with ago, Amari Spelman is is a I call him a bells and whistles player he can do things that look good on tape. You can block some shots. He can rebound and they can knock down some threes. But he's not really an NBA shape and his core base fundamentals that are atrocious. But that's okay. That's where he is today. The question is, where's he going to be a year from now think the only thing really to talk about his tray? And because the the there's a huge sort of continuum of opinions out there on trae everyone just wants to look at three point shooting. The facts are he's struggling with three point shot facts are on the catch shoot. He's doing fine and shooting terribly off the dribble. But so some people say quick answer is well, he should do more catch and shoot unless less shooting off the dribble. I'm sorry. But trae Young's game is creating for his team. Whether that's for himself or someone else off the dribble. He's already elite and using his dribble to create opportunities for his team-mates. The fact is he doesn't have great players around him. He doesn't have great shot makers around him. If he played on a team that was top ten in three point shooting percentage. Trae Young's net rating would be much much higher. Because when he collects defender takes him with him. And he's he's brilliant this and you can make passes can't make he has great vision in great touch on his passes. You know, he. He's only going to be as good as the players around him on the floor. And just the fact is he doesn't play on a very good team. Now, there's two things about trae hog should be concerned about one is the shooting off the dribble now is it should be overly concerned. No, this is something that ended work on he has to fix this..

"World's greatest podcast broadcaster or Muslim coaching about a final four content will join us as well. As Dan I we will discuss Villanova. What is going on Surtees kit will how much will they get better with Frank Harum? We're gonna look at feast week Dan's going to be Atlanta's we're gonna talk about Lantis talk about the NIT, and we're going to talk about now these square it is the season it's up to season forgiving. It's the season. For college basketball eating Turkey sitting on the beach in the Bahamas while I freeze my rear end off. But last week was an interesting week for college basketball because we have to defending national champion. Now firm is also a team that now is beaten to final four teams they beat those Kogyo, and they'd be billing over. But when you look at this Villanova team right now in this moment in time. Let's be honest about ourselves here. Now sit. Sixty points a game almost three hundred fifty three's twenty rebounds and four NBA players. They're not going to be the same team. And let's face it. Eric PASCAL, Phil booth. They wear their fifth and sixth leading scorer last year. They have a new role. What's your take on Villanova? How good can they be? Or do you think this is one of those years where they take two steps back to go. Maybe two steps forward. I think this man. I don't think they thought Amari Spelman and Dante incense over gone. They don't have guys then they one of we were going to talk about this year's team. We'd have been talking about a about that even channel could be the player of the year in the league. But your coach can get some wins. The other guys try to win to the other guys are busting at coach getting paid a lot of money. I just think that you know, they got the pleated Cowan Gillespie needs to start being a star. I don't know. Maybe he needs to be the next Dante defense Enzo. But right now, he's not they're not, and it's no fluke. But Michigan's no joke. Let's be. Is Michigan is no joke. Michigan is damn good. And you know, what they'll be fine eventually, but maybe not this year. Yeah. Me let's face cow Glaspie to me. He's a nice player. But he gets in the lane. It's not like people are really worried about him. Joe like even in a Michigan game. He drove it. And you know what? Michigan. Did they stayed home on all those guys relocate? And and said art, countless we score over us. That's going against David Simpson. And we're also taking away all those step in threes and cream out was over. I mean, the shoot three twenty from the three obviously they lost and BA players. They're turning it over not doing anything. So, you know, Jay, right? He'll stay positive. You'll get as much as you cannot lose team. But it was going to be an interesting year. I how about another northeastern type team you find Danny Hurley's roller to Madison Square Garden and get a little piece of Syracuse suit, in my opinion. Look, I I like what he's doing terms of he's getting guys to compete and play harder. He's got very good guard play. They made some incredible shots down the stretch of that. And he's got those kids bind into him like he's investing in them. And they're playing for him. You can see that..

"All right what delicious matchup should we talk about next year? I think we should go to the Queen city, and Charlotte Atlanta was I think the story of this game as it so often is for the hawks is trae young giveth and trae young taketh away. I mean he in. I think it was the third quarter might have been the second. He was just tearing up Charles Doug getting good shut five seconds of the rooms tearing star. At the rim in the second. Yankee and getting all those good looks doing a lot of positive authencity on the court and in that second quarter, they did outscore Charlotte twenty nine to twenty eight but young isn't good defensively has a lot of room to go to get decent defensively. And that is a problem when you are facing one Kemba Walker. Yeah. I thought that young. I mean, you know, this is a developmental season for the hawks certainly they won't mind if they get a higher draft pick young had the matchup against Kemba Walker. Most of the time they could it may be said a trader go guard, Nick Batumi or guard lamb both those guys have sized that could hurt him a little bit. But there are a few plays where he just totally gave up right amid and plays where the guy kind of made him look battle bit. You know, gotta crossover orders wrong-footed them slightly. But then he just kinda gave up like I don't wanna be on the highlight reel or something. Instead of you just have to keep competing in today's day and age as a point guard. It's all about yet you buy got screened off. But you're going to keep trying you're going to compete. You're gonna make it difficult for the guy. Why you're going to fix it? So at the very least you might have space right now, but you're going to recover because and that and allow your big man to help and then recover himself at 'em. I thought that trae really did not do a good job of that. They're just a couple of specific highlights where he just completely deactivated. After the initial move even in a one on one situation, which was a little disheartening. I mean, you know, Atlanta, they started Tracy on Kevin herder in Amari Spelman at the four altogether. I mean that is just not a good defensive lineup of. But they actually did. Okay. The first half they lead fifty four fifty one at halftime. And we can talk more about some of their individual performances of. But overall, it was just too much Kemba Walker for the Hornets. He continues to sizzle he is maybe the best guy in the league. Now at you know, you could put maybe Dame Lillard up in this category. As well as a guy who can come around a screen, even if the guy is kind of on his back still rise up still be on the move kind of leaning forward and shoot a three. If the biggest hang back at all and make your I mean, he's hitting these kind of floating three pointers on the move, which are really really impressive and Walker finished with twenty nine points whose twelve twenty two from the field four out of ten from downtown, seven assists, three steals, you know, and in a game like this against a team like the hawks Kemba walkers easily the best player on the floor. And here's the big reason why Charlotte took this one tonight something else. I wanted to talk about from this game v last good backup point guard. Charlotte had Jeremy Lin had a nice game in his former building nineteen points, which lead Atlanta on seventy nine shooting almost all of which from two point range. He was six of six of eight from two and then one of one from three. I'll Scott's the free throw line for four shots and played under control looked more dynamic than we had seen earlier in the season. He's battled injuries for the last two years and doodoo Atlanta's structure, they're not really gonna play Lynn more unless they do some with trae young, which I would actually support I think it'd be kind of fun to see those guys bounce off each other. But I I'm really happy for Jeremy Lin. He can do well in this role. And I don't know exactly what he wants from the season. Maybe if he wants to get bought out in how the playoff run on Unimar competitive team. Maybe Atlanta will be amenable to that. But yeah, I enjoy capable backup point guard play Android plink play..

"People. When you hear us when you hear chaos, say the words my sources are telling me LeBron and then it's dot dot that whatever he says after that that's a text message of sources are. Yes. Yes. Hellabrunn said, we're playing shit in practice, and if we don't step it up, he's cutting all of us know. So the Wagner, the the point I was making like when the when the Braun said he's coming to the Lakers I thought Wagner is is is gone. Like he's going to be traded in the snap of finger. They're going to find a way to ship out, but I don't think could be. Yeah, that's true. But I don't. I don't necessarily like, I don't think LeBron is it does that as much like because I, I feel like I feel like he's kind of got his guys and they're going to be fun. Like I don't know, maybe not. Maybe I'm just, I'm an idiot. I'm an idiot. I think you just love. I want to stick here. I'm trying to. I'm trying to talk myself into this. You just love LeBron and the idea of this and having this team and you know, here's, here's, here's the point I'm making like LeBron with the Cavs or whenever whatever's like you're saying the old for this shit. He's too old for this shit. Yeah, yes, Tate. It used to be like, I have to have to win. Now I'm going to gut the team. My won't Kevin law and give you a little more patient now and he's willing to keep digging around. Hopefully, I don't know. He's wise trying to talk myself. He's wise up in his old age. Let's talk about another guy. Guy from Ohio speaking of allow. He's not from Ohio, but play high Trevan blue, Trayvon Blewett, Trayvon blue, he's correctly. Tripped up by Trevan Deval do Val blue comes and basically doesn't get drafted. No one, really. We always liked blue and he was one of the best players use it. Yes. Great. He was like all of a national player of the year run there for a second. He she is there. There's like a two months stretchers I, if you said Trevan blew it should national player, you know, until you're really that crazy. No, everyone's like Hayes, pretty good and Xavier team and Chris Mexican coach. And now Chris, Maxwell Louisville and the rest is history, but blew it is with the pelicans. He's got a two way deal and if there's any team, I mean, if you're just a basketball player and you're in the early and you're like, I finished third in the early Guimbi p race, and I'm only twenty two years old. I think he got a call your agent say, can I play on the pelicans? Like I think I can beat out Doron lamb or whoever is on their team and each one more whoever these people are. I think Alex gene just got traded out of there or something like that. I think he has a chance to play. I don't know what that will mean for Blake. If you are on the pelicans, you have a chance to play. You and I have a chance to play. Moving along Amari Spelman. Little Inova wildcat kind of a underappreciated. I mean, by the end of the season us very appreciated, but he was drafted. He was first runner. Yeah, so three first round ups for land. They have trae young goes, verse Kevin hurt who go second from Marilyn, who's the shooter, and then Amar Spelman who goes thirtieth and Spelman obviously is basically Dwayne deadman insurance. He'll be the five Collins ideally would be insurance is interested. Are we getting to relay Devon insurance this into a bit? "Doesn't mean the next version. Meaning two thousand nineteen into twenty won't also still be an awesome team Atlanta Hawks, depth chart. We should do this every week. Maybe it won't. Maybe the Atlanta Hawks are doing it that way. Every week isn't going to be great. Maybe we don't have to do with that way. Hawks starters. Here we go trae young, Kent bays, more Taurean prince, John Collins and Wayne deadman who I've always liked behind them, Jeremy Lin, Kevin, Where're Tyler Dorsey Amari Spelman Alex Len. There you go. They got Poitras two and a couple other guys. Vince Carter. Double check in this Vince. Yup. Right? We played four preseason games this year, fifty games last year are there you go. So that way you're armed for the season. You've got my VP picks my finals, picks them worth interesting. All the gossip ahead of time. "It was another thing that they did, which is probably part of the off season is declining. The option on. Von looney and exercising it on Damian Jones. Neither of which really looked like the right decision. They are lucky to be able to bring back looney for the minimum because it was such a bad market, but had it not been for that looney probably would have ended up leaving or though there wasn't much reason to think at the time that looney would deserve to have his fourth option picked up. So I moved them down to a be just because young and Caspi were so bad. I think also Livingston is looking like a pretty big overpay at this point at eight million a year. I'm not sure if he had other offers there and especially, you know, even the partial guarantee in the last year Igwe dolla you know, he's still worth his contract with healthy. The question is how often that's going to be and that third year for him, they're probably going to have to make some kind of an adjustment there. If he'll Klay Thompson comes back at anything close to the max. So down to a piano, they won the championship, but I felt that it wasn't necessarily because of someone's moves they made, maybe I'm just being too harsh on the Nick young thing, but that that was one that just killed me all year yet. I, it certainly did, but I think curry for the. Get not get not having a player option. It into trade is a more significant thing for the ark of the franchise and actually was probably a mutt a tartar negotiation. I mean, depending on how was approaching. I mean, it's massively significant for the future of the franchise in with Livingston my my assumption is that he winds up business. Sorry, a, how about not bringing back six centers the do you really need Zaza. David Wests engine Bill McGee anchor von looney and Jordan bell and Damian Jones currently? Yes, it centers on the Rosser. But Zari, I, I was just like I looked at all of the people. They reside like, wait a minute. The last few, these guys are senators. Like in a drafted one. I mean, I don't think they expected Jordan bell to be as immediately as he was, but but still a Damian Jones. Maybe they expected him to be more productive than he was. So it kind of balances out to annex to a certain degree there. Yeah, and they ended up just paying the tax on on all that kind of stuff. But so what I was saying with Livingston is I've I've no inside information, but my insight might instinct is that he is not going to get that third year, at least with the warriors. Maybe they could trade him or whatever they're going to do. They're so that couple million is going to that still counts, still counts for everything. And if they pay him, that is going to be really costly, just with the way the repeater towers and everything else. And if the trade him of the probably are to end up having to guarantee is country makes difficult to trade him. If feeling. That's true. These he would count two million outdoors just trade him to a ticket just trading team with cap space, and they're going to be a lot of those. Yeah, maybe. And then and then then pay his salary and they cut him a mealy and then they sold the castrates that's supposedly, let's move to their chief competition. Now, the Houston Rockets recall that they made the trade four, Chris, Paul sending out Patrick Beverley Lou Williams sand decker mantras Herrell and that was a trade and their own first-round Beck? Yes. Thank you. Which ended up becoming Amari Spelman in the trustees care of the Atlanta Hawks after the clippers moved it to get off of Jamal Crawford. I gave them an a minus at the time if only because I felt perhaps they gave up a little bit too much in that trade. But I mean they won sixty five games. They almost beat the warriors. I've move them up to an a plus for from that aim is PJ. Tucker was outstanding. Luca. Bob moon day for the moon was great. A Turk black, really using the be a on him..
