"The quarterback. Don't do it. I'm sure clear Mac has played the Raiders before, but they get to play Derek Carr and the Raiders two times a year. team that traded you away. I feel bad for the Raiders man. Feel bad for the Raiders, good for Khalil Mack, he gets a coach who loves him, a really good spot for him to win a lot. And chargers, man, you know, things didn't go the charges way last year they didn't make the playoffs. It's year two of Justin Herbert, you're one of a new coach brand and staley, a rookie head coach. I expect the Chargers to be a lot better next year. And some of those moments where they just short and the results of them missing the playoffs and they're going to win those games that were close at the end. They may be fell short in a couple times. So I expect a big step forward for the LA chargers next year. Okay. The Dallas Cowboys have traded wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Cleveland browns. I don't understand why Dallas announced they were planning to release or cut Amari Cooper. I think all they really did was hurt his trade value. You could have said, if I could go back in time and advise Dallas what to do, I'd say, put out there that you're trying to, I guess, it doesn't make sense. I would say put out there that you're trying to keep him and do everything you can to try to keep the guy and then at least people know that you are trying to keep him. Therefore, his trade value goes up a little bit. The minute they announced their releasing or cutting or at least he got leaked and reported that the cowboys were planning to cut Amari Cooper, his trade value plummeted. And Dallas is planning to cut him because on March 20th, Amari Cooper is owed $20 million. They can't afford that. And so they were gonna cut him because cutting him or releasing him is better than doing nothing. Let me back up and re say this again. The reason why they traded him away is because if you release and you get nothing for him, at least now if you trade him, you get something in return, which is better than just flat out releasing him. So Dallas got something for him. Cleveland made sure they got him. So Cleveland wins because if Amari Cooper hits the open market as a free agent receiver, you can't guarantee he's going to choose your football team to.

"He totally neglected the offense and did the team a massive disservice. They had a ton of good offensive players, but with teddy Bridgewater at quarterback, their offense was very, very limited. Sure, Denver had a top ten defense. They were the 8th ranked defense in the NFL. I'm sure that Vic Fangio wears that like a badge of honor. He can always tell himself, we had a good defense. Congrats, I guess, but the reality is you went 7 and ten, you were dead last in your division, big Fangio that coach did get fired, and he gave some arrogant quotes when he got fired that made him really seem only interested in, I feel like all year. He was just interested in maintaining his reputation, is like, I know I can't resign, that'll give me a bad look, and probably stain me as Ed coach. I don't know. I just, I feel horrible about what happened last year in Denver. And Vic Fangio walked away coming across as very unlikeable and just completely committed to self preservation. He was a head coach, I guess, but all season, again, he really seemed to only want to coach defense and he's a good defensive coordinator. He is a terrible, terrible head coach. And you just can't ignore one side of the football and by the way, they drafted stud corner Patrick surtan number 9 overall. As a rookie, he had four interceptions and 14 passes defended. That's great. Like having a good stud corner is awesome. And if you get a guy like Aaron Rodgers, he's gonna be a valuable piece to help you win next year. Here's the thing. If you don't get Aaron Rodgers, you're screwed, because sorry, but having a really good young corner just is not comparable to having a good young quarterback and it's Justin Fields good. I don't know. I think so, but we'll find out, but certainly he's a better option than any of the other prospects that Denver has at quarterback other than potentially Aaron Rodgers, which that trade may or may not happen. So now, the Denver Broncos did hire packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett to be their new head coach. And they are actively doing everything they possibly can to trade for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. And that leads me to two questions on Patreon, go to Patreon dot com slash Zach Schumer, if you want to write in to the show, let's talk about the Denver Broncos quarterback situation. Braden wrote in, he said this. Looking back on Denver's season, do you think it was a mistake for Fangio to start teddy bird water over drew lock?.

"I'm excited for the future. Again, I go back to Elijah Moore, paired with Amari Cooper, sounds like a really fun dynamic duo. I would love to see that. Now, the jets second leading receiver was their go back to that quote. Big free agent signing Corey Davis. He only played in 9 games. He caught 34 passes for 492 yards and four touchdowns. He was the jets second leading receiver, but that's not saying much. And I was hoping you'd make a bigger impact coming from Tennessee. He was trying to kind of resurrect his career coming over from Tennessee last year and. It's fine. I wish we played a more games. I wish he had better numbers, but I don't know. It wasn't encouraging, but we'll see how things work out in the future. Now the jets leading Russia is a really, really positive story. Rookie fourth round pick running back Michael Carter. I love this guy. Great pick, great value. I would rather have him than doing what the cowboys are doing and be massively overpaying a running back like Ezekiel Elliott. I am all for getting a rookie fourth round pick, making restarting running back. He made an impact immediately. Bright future there and again, tremendous value when it comes to the contract. Now, I'm also excited about the jets defensive line next year. They have defensive end Carl Lawson returning from he ruptures Achilles before the year even started. So he never really got the season going. He never played. He's coming back for 2022. I'm excited for that next year. Defensive tackle, Quinton Williams. I mean, it's an understatement they call this guy a study he's fantastic. He's a franchise staple. One of the hallmarks of your football team. And then also defensive end John Franklin Myers made a name for himself and got a big contract extension in October. He signed a four year $55 million deal little north of $30 million fully guaranteed. Carl Lawson will be 27 this fall. Quinn and Williams just turned 24 in December. John Franklin Myers was 25. It's a young, encouraging group on the defensive line for the New York Jets. And I walk away, I'm like, eh, that's positive. And even though the jets literally and I mean literally had the worst defense in the NFL dead last 32 out of 32, somehow I actually walk away feeling kind of optimistic because they've got a defensive line I like. CJ Moseley is a monster at linebacker led the team in tackles, they've got an encouraging is maybe a very generous word, young secondary with new young players who are starting and making somewhat of an impact. I also, on the offensive line, they got Elijah bear Tucker at guard, Makai Becton, George fan. There are some hope on the offensive line as well. They're working on it. It's getting better. And last year was certainly a rebuilding year.

"Is way more valuable. Than a running back. It's a bad contract. And you're overpaying a running back. It's not the 90s anymore. The game has changed and it also doesn't help that I think a little bit overpaying their starting quarterback, dak Prescott. They're giving him a ton of money. You could argue he's overpaid. I don't want to hear the anger about that. I don't really care. You got to pay your quarterback. Whatever. But what's the problem in Dallas? Let's get to the root of the issue because keeping the Dallas Cowboys from a Super Bowl right now. The problem is and continues to be their owner Jerry Jones. They have a Jerry Jones problem. His emotional decision making, his refusal to hire a general manager, the fact that he hired a guest man as a head coach. There's that IQ meme where it's like ten IQ, a hundred IQ, a thousand IQ. I would argue that ten IQ was blaming Amari Cooper. A hundred IQ is blaming the Ezekiel Elliott contract and a thousand IQ is realizing that Jerry Jones is the problem. He is the person who put the cowboys in this situation. Let's look, let's say it, the cowboys are letting a good player go, Amari Cooper. So letting good players go, they're overpaying other players who are running back in today's NFL is not worth it. $18 million salary cabinet. It's just that's bad. That's terrible money management. They've got a coach. I don't believe in and from where the cowboys are right now today, a Super Bowl feels a long, long way off. And unfortunately for them, if I was a cowboy fan, I'd have a hard time supporting this team because right now in my opinion the problem is the owner is in the way of you winning a Super Bowl and if you're a cowboys fan that feel that feels that way as well, I'd be like, man, I can't support this team until Jerry Jones is gone. Maybe Jerry Jones will change. Maybe he will someday hire a GM. I think hopefully in his old age, he'll get a little bit less controlling and give control to someone else and he can actually hire a great head coach who can run stuff..

"Three, two, one, oh my goodness. Good morning, good afternoon. Whatever it is for you, I hope you're having a fan. Has to say, my name is Zach Schumer. It's a strong opinion sports episode 400 and 64. Welcome in. Let's start with the Dallas Cowboys. Reports have been made that the Dallas Cowboys are planning to release wide receiver Amari Cooper. And cutting Cooper getting them off the roster will save or free up $16 million in salary cap space this off season. The new league year starts on my birthday, march 16th. And on March 20th, Amari Cooper is due to make $20 million fully guaranteed, so getting them off the roster saves them a ton of money. Remember, the cowboys traded at first round pick to get Amari Cooper from the Raiders in 2018 and it's debatable now that the Raiders won the trade because they used that pick to draft a stud starting safety Jonathan Abram. Jonathan Abrams still plays for the Raiders. Samari Cooper's already gone from the cowboys or released at least so we believe we will see if that actually does happen. I believe you will get released. Amari Cooper had over a thousand yards receiving in 2018 again in 2019 and then again in 2020, last year he had a little bit of a drop off. He had 68 catches for 865 yards and 8 touchdown catches. Despite the lower numbers last year, I mean, Amari Cooper is still a stud. The idea of having Amari Cooper and CD lamb as a tandem together on the same team on the same receiving core, that's awesome. And Dallas letting him go, it's a big blow. So number one, I'm very excited to see where does Amari Cooper go as a free agent. There's a lot of opportunity around the league. A lot of teams could use a number one receiver. That's exciting that's interesting. But the more really interesting angle here, to me, is that the cowboys are having salary cap problems. They can't pay everybody. And the most shameful worst part about this is that they're paying Ezekiel Elliott their running back, a ton of money. The salary cap hit next year for Ezekiel Elliott is over 18 million dollars..

Patriots Beat

"Maybe Robbie Anderson's a little bit better, but I find this hard to believe that the Patriots are truly interested in this move because imagine the contract, Robbie Anderson's dude $13 million in cash next season for whoever acquires him in a trade. That means that he will count $13 million against the Patriots salary cap if he is the acquisition that they make. It's a million and a half dollars less than Nelson Aguilar on his current deal. Is that that much of a difference, right? Here a million bucks there. We're not talking about a massive, massive difference in contract. Then you also get into the fact that he is under contract for 2023 as well. There's an out. He doesn't have any guaranteed money in his deal for 2023, but you still have to figure out what you're going to do with him beyond that point if it doesn't end up working out. But I think the bigger story out of all of this is, again, not necessarily the name Robbie Anderson because I'm sure that we could throw out a bunch of different names that the Patriots have called on over the last week or so as a set the table for their off season. I'm sure they've kicked the tires on several of these types of players. The bigger story to me is that the Patriots and we've talked about this on the pod are at least entertaining the idea that Nelson Aguilar needs to be moved. And he is not the guy that they want to hold that 13, $14 million cap hit as their ex receiver. So now what they'll do is they'll stack it up, right? They'll figure out what Calvin Ridley is worth. They'll figure out what Robbie Anderson's worth. They'll complete their evaluations on the draft class and they'll come to a conclusion about who's the best value best signing out of all those types of players. Throw Amari Cooper in there as well. All those guys will get stacked together and they'll figure out what the best course forward is. But Nelson Aguilar in particular, it sounds like they want to move on if they can. And I don't blame them for it..

"Their year has been basically completely derailed by off the field stuff they've lost three games in a row. Now Dallas will not be 100% they will not have receiver Amari Cooper playing CD lamb and other receiver might also miss the game. I don't love that. But Dallas is coming off of a loss to Kansas City where they're offense didn't play great. I believe the Raiders defense is exactly what the cowboys need right now playing against the Raiders defense is going to be a really big boosted confidence. And an opportunity for them the Dallas Cowboys to get back on the right track. I am picking Dallas, let's see who mister gabel stone will choose. Got the cowboys on one side, raiders on the other. I mean, there's a reason why we eat turkeys rather than looking to them for advice on football games. And this poor Turkey has no idea who to choose. He's looking around. He's trying to decide and he picks the raiders off. Poor Turkey, man, mister gobble stone. Yeah, man, I'm not convinced. This might be shocking to people, but to me, turkeys don't know very much about football. Now game number three is the bills at the saints buffalo is coming off of a really bad, really ugly loss to Indy. And a Thanksgiving game against New Orleans might be exactly what they need. To me, buffalo is a playoff team, maybe even a Super Bowl contender. And if that is true, then the bills will win on Thanksgiving. Now, saints quarterback, Jameis Winston, Torres ACL a few weeks ago. That made Trevor Simeon the saints starting quarterback. And they are zero and three since Jameis Winston got hurt. That's not great. I ain't picking the bills to win on Thursday on Thanksgiving. Now let's see what mister gallstone chose. You got the Buffalo Bills and the New Orleans Saints, who will mister gobble stone two as he looks around very thoughtfully. Clearly, there's a lot going on in that tiny little bird brain of his. And oh, I thought I was going to pick new worlds. He kind of faked this out there. Now he's looking around a little more. Pondering kind of struggling with the choice. And was that buffalo? No, not quite. And oh, there he does. He does pick buffalo. Wow, I agree. Well, done mister gobble stone. Oh my gosh. It looks like him and I agree. Now is that bad? I've been saying all along the Turkey doesn't know football. So is it concerning that him and I agree? Maybe it's just so clear that the bills will win that even a Turkey can see the clear option. I don't know..

"It's you know. I i don't know how much longer they're going to get to prove that. This itinerary giants works this philosophy this everything that they have works because as well as daniel jones has played that seems to be in isolation of everything else around yet they The average he came into this one no sterling shepherd and as the game went on they lose daniel jones to what appears to be concussion late in the first half they lost can golladay in the first half. They lost saquon barkley. You ankle injury in the first half and Each us yeah it it was a it was a mess by the time. The second half rolled around as far as the cowboys go. I mean they look. They won this game in the style that they want to win. Games which is a whole lot of rushing yards. You know basically staying on the field for a long time and You know their defense is more than enough. Take over and and trump digs another another interception. This one And as troy aikman pointed out. In the telecast a very dion ish interception which he kinda beated a deep post throw and then a new. He'd have the ketchup speed to run it down and get the give the interception. Yeah that's been the comparison in vogue right now trayvon digs to best corner gallison's dion sanders. But listen it's hard to argue with his production and he's really been a difference maker on the defense would be hard to play worse than the defense played last season. But certainly there's been an improvement in a lot of areas taking the ball away has been one of them and digs has been tremendous. I don't think there's a person on earth who wants to live more in the past than jerry jones and whenever like when you hear comparison like that on the broadcast you exactly where it's coming from right like i remember being down in dallas for a story that i did for the magazine and at the time it was dak prescott and ezekiel elliott and amari cooper and what was everybody's saying down there the new triplets the new urban and aikman emmitt smith and this guy that kind of knows how to puppeteer You know the fan base and say all this is the dion sanders You know a troy. Can you say this on the broadcast blah blah blah and and it all works out and It bridges meets my next point which is keeps us stuck in the past which is why we should stop. Because i think were gas. Letting me gary here at the beginning segment by telling me. This is a match up that you're looking forward to and as someone who spent his formative years in the eighties and nineties. That would make sense. but i. i don't think that the giants and cow books is a good game anymore. And i think we should stop carrying until either one of them really. Give us a reason to to give you what that that would be. That's my overarching. Take on this. This is no longer the america's game centerpiece of your evening gathered the kids around the television. It's just a. It's a bad game between two middle of the road franchises..

"You had chris god when he was making plays but he was dropping most to in that fumble is is like at and that was where i thought we lost me too and i've got him on fantasy so i'm like i'll root getting. They're getting those stop. Don't stop mad. I was like why you just go down. I know still trying to get the extra but he is like a you know he fights for those yardage. It's actually very rare that he makes a play like that where he's fighting for your niche and then fumbles. I can't recall another time of that happened. I'm sure it's happened like once or twice but it's not you know. Ball aside from the drops ball security is one of his strengths. I would say but so. That was where i thought that we lost it. Thank god for the defense. Yeah yeah. I thought they played really good. Va of course good. Lord almost every play ridiculous in one play where he liked carried. The lime in it was like it was like what those nature documentaries. Where like the baby monkey is hanging off the mom you know just hanging on by the fire and she's like doing other stuff like Climate trees and stuff. That's what he was doing what he does it all the time. He will carry a lineman until the quarterback. Tackle you with your center. No and you know that one got highlighted because it was really awesome. But he does that like every play. They're saying that alignment was three hundred fifty pounds. He said i was seven hundred pounds. Going attack elaine. Dak prescott was incredible. But he's he's he. He was in that press cuts face just about. The whole game is always jack jack. Was there yeah. Shocked showed up on the stats sheet. Got a few hits on him. Yes shotgun a sacra. He's the only one that got a sack he got a sack at. Cfl and two quarterback hits so he was doing pretty good last night So andrew adams had a Fell and a quarterback hit yet. Nobody else showed up on this out. She quite like shackelford us. Also get a couple of hits on presque. They don't have him with quarterback hits don't have su- with quarterback and not even on the stat sheet. I just find that absurd. This is why hates them. And all the sued tractors. Oh wait a minute. He did hit a tackle and alter how a a quarterback it. Okay yeah he he slammed prescott one time for just. He likes to push quarterback Goldstein had the couple Quarterback hits to that we rebel. I mean he was getting that ball out quick rack. Prescott was not staying back their survey the field. He was definitely they had the game plan to. Let's get this. Just get this ball as far away from that front seven as we can as fast as can have to. Then it's a good blueprint and when you look at our defense like that's that makes sense. The i mean. Our front seven is matched by no other the secondary like okay. We i if you're going to pick your poison that's on picking exactly the secondary so i think we're gonna see a lot of teams try that this year but a lot of teams don't have amari cooper and well i won't let you go down the field. No but cd lamb cd lamb cd liam amari cooper michael gallup deller. We must galloway galloway. That's a calloway. The guy from new orleans. We were just watching last night. They so they are a threat and I think we'll certainly put up some big plays. I think we can expect that. We're going to give up some big plays. They're mark cooper this. He's out state. He's the best route runner in the league. I think he can do anybody out He can run any route. You know it's good. It's going to be interesting to see who goes up against helm for you. Know a Maldin djamoldine carl davis. Whatever they're going gonna have a hard time with him he's going to get open and that's his thing. He does catch the ball good and traffic. He's not a A big tough guy. He's not gonna catch them on. Run you over. But he will get often. That's the how he likes to catch the ball when he's over but we gotta gotta stay tight on him at you. They'll they'll probably make some plays and maybe even into the run game a little bit but i'm not hopeful on. We're gonna crush them. We're gonna ralph. And i were talking about this last night. Avas talking about the offensive line. How kind of in the middle you know they might be certain. Some backups or dealing with people coming off of like the one guy was on the cova glass. I don't know how sick he was. Or whatever but you know if you're coming off of illness like it does take you a while to recover and get back to where you were. And he's only back you know for a week. I don't know what kind of shape. He's i'm sure where mine mine is where i'm like. Yeah you know you can. It can take some time to recover from any kind of sickness. And so and then you've got the right tackle who he was on. I r last season and he's almost next singers and so there are offense of line. I think could be kind of a liability for them..

After lighting up training camp lamb now tops the list for favorite fantasy football players going into this season from one expert and skipped has been high on lamb since he was drafted and believe he'll take over the number one receiver role for amari cooper shannon. What is your response. We'll skip this fantasy. This is based on. They his his production. His touchdown production is going to take a leap. I don't believe he's a top ten receiver. That's just me personally. I'm not taking over tyree. Devante de hop digs ridley. Julio keenan allen decay med cav. Mike headwinds mike ev. Excuse me a ab would situation where he could be a number one. I'm not taking the other guys. Aj brown. i'm not taking him over that Justin jefferson team but skip the question. Ills amari cooper. Is he going to be healthy. Jerry jones gators man twenty million dollars. You believe that he's going to jump amari making twenty million because he's better or because amari they injured come off ankle surge right. What are they going to be held. And it'll be good to go that so i don't. I don't see that happening. I do expect him to to crack. I'll get eleven hundred yards. Eleven hundred and fifty plus yard this year. i'll go because he was slightly under a thousand last year. So i believe they'll lean on him a little bit more lou questionnaire if the mari healthy i don't see him jumping amari. If amar isn't healthy that's the natural progression is that he's slide into the number one role and that's why you see them start to move him around and play some of the position that amara would normally normally occupied okay. I tried to tell you this the night day after the draft right the night up. I tweeted it day after i came right in here and i said oh. You're now in trouble. Because i told you from the start. He is going to be the best receiver in his class. I know just jefferson. Had a breakout magical rookie year. Last year in minnesota i give you all the above. Although do you remember that. Catch cd made against just jefferson's team up in minneapolis. Remember that catch. I think we might have you got it. Oh yeah we do have it. Oh have you catch. is that good. That's what he does. that's who he is. What about that. One as give that was from andy dot com. Was that any good. He he three sixty remember. You dropped one year. It was a big drop..

"Well you mentioned it briefly The sunday night. Football crew consisting of al michaels and chris collins worth and the reason i bring that up is because chris collins worth made some headlines in cowboys world when he essentially said on his podcast most recently. That ezekiel elliott. Despite how good he looks here in training camp or excuse me not as as we're getting reports that he looks brian fast and light footed and quick right but chris collins says that ezekiel elliott is the poster child for why running backs. Don't matter in the nfl. You have a really good offensive line in dallas. That had two players go down. Before the season started and who elliott's numbers fell as a result of it. In fact not only was zeke ranked outside of the top half in terms of all qualified running backs in the nfl according to pro football. Focus his teammate. Tony pollard was actually ranked in the top seventeen. Conversely now is this collins worth stating truth that maybe the cowboys should continue to be mindful of or do we have faith in the idea that ezekiel elliott is a game changing back and can make the difference for a team at a position that historically does not make a massive difference in the winter loss called. This is one of those areas where i hate the fact that so much of coverage of sports. And you know everything. Really nowadays is geared towards attract. The clicks attract the leaders because this is a gross to me at over simplification of a multifaceted issue Yeah i thank. Collins worth has point in the fact that a good offensive linemen work successful running game. There are some You know some analytics that kinda show that. That's that's really not a bad approach to take however it also kind of discount. The fact that zeke elliott had covid last year he was not able to condition get get ready for the season. He came out Came into the training camp of bit out of shape. And i think he never really were recovered and my goodness he's i think he's come back. He's hungry and here's a look at. Let's say they get the offense of wine back on track. Let it ezekiel elliott is operating at you. Know as good a a high level as he has when he first came into the league and he's really angry and wants to prove something and that cooking which is going to open up some running opportunities times. Yeah that's what. I'm looking forward to The shorthand is. I'm looking to have as equally good year. The the long more accurate answer. That people don't wanna get too his. I think the dallas cowboys. We're going to have one of the most effective offenses in the league and it's going to be a combination of a very effective Passing game with by that prescott leading to oppor game with zeki At working behind. Where this hopefully going to be a much healthier offense of wine and you know kellen moore back there dialing up the plays and getting the most outlets so yeah. I'm excited to see elliot looking good. Because i think that will have an impact on the performances season. Well again. Though the biggest impact on his performances probably going to be the health of offensive line. And and that's kind of the point. Collins worth made which again i wholeheartedly agree with. I am a. I'm a fan of his game. And i don't you know we made the bed right so i'm certainly going to sleep in and i'm not gonna kick and scream on the floor and ground when i've got a nice fluffy pillow in ezekiel elliott. Whether it goes off not this. Yeah i was gonna say you're you're not referring to the fact that he is almost question. We overpaid be as it's a. It's a sleep number pillow at a my pillow price. Say it's a. It's not a great deal but you don't have another option so you're happy to sleep on it. All the same. In regards to ezekiel elliott's performance. Right last year career lows in rushing yards lows in terms of stats all the way around but in terms of his grade right his running back grade. According to pro football focus just two points less than the season in two thousand eighteen. When he led the league in rushing with fourteen hundred yards and was named to the pro bowl. So it's a thin line. I agree but it's also almost irrelevant. How healthy or how. Great zeke works. If the offense of on is or is not healthy. If they're healthy. I feel great about zeke's twenty twenty one opportunities. And if they're not i don't care if he's as healthy as he's ever been he probably won't look as good as we would like to be and and don't forget that the biggest factor last year in this performance was that he had that rash of fumbles early in the season. Which helped put the team in a hole and you know people have mentioned probably had might have been driven by him trying to push too hard knowing the fact that they didn't have starting visit tackles out there so he was trying to do it on his own. And you know we'll have to see how that all phypers out. But i've i have a generally good feeling about him And yeah that's grown. By the fact that i'm hopeful that the wind is going to be able to come out and perform well and bring it all back together right. Maybe that means more opportunities for tony pollard. And slot receiver position as they work to get amari cooper back to full health. Maybe that means more opportunities for and zeke elliott to be on the field together as they look for different combinations of weapons to get guys out there and get guys open in space so all very exciting right and of course You can continue to fall all the coverage on ot as many camps training camp. Everything you need to know. We'll be found here on blogging. The boys so make sure you click. That subscribe button. Make sure you get.

"Irritation an irritation on your ankle is what keeps you out of three weeks of ota's and potentially another two months beyond that. That is contradictory verbiage to me either. It's an irritation or it's an injury. That's keeping him out till training camp either the cowboys history of not being very forthright with this type of information. I admit gives me strong feelings. And they're not good ones. Yeah well i will say that they did come out and say yeah he should be ready. They hopeful thank god. Yeah they weren't. They weren't promising it. They said you know they're. They're hoping that he's going to recover. But they're you know they're being cautious and think they're kind of You know hedging their bed a little bit there so that kind of i know what you mean exactly. I'm i'm tired of it. That's partly why they do it all the time they did it. I mean they did it with. I think they did it. A little bit with With with gregory right when he was kind of coming back they did it with lyle and tyronn before they eventually put them on the shelf and there have been plenty before that and many many before that you could go back probably for the last decade and find you know a half a dozen examples of times where they have slow played injuries only to let the cat out of the bag and find out. Wow it's much worse than we thought. I would hate to come to find out that amari cooper had ankle surgery at any point this off season but if he's got an injury that's keeping him out for four months. Is that not a possibility. I think it is oh again. I know that are Are the folks that are covering the beat. We'll get to the bottom of this. Hopefully if there is anything to get to the bottom of hopefully sooner than later but at least for now. That's kind of the news that that took a lot of people's attention this week. Now amaury did have himself a nice little day there at o. T. as even though he wasn't able to get on the field. Why because mike. Parsons finally got in touch with him. And and god the woman that i think. A lot of assault common mica very hot to trot when it came to his chest prowess who was talking a lot of noise on social media about about who he was taken down and how often it was being done in amari wound up lincoln up and amari still the reigning chess champion. Lot to learn for the young bucks. Still and mike parsons. Yeah that's the thing about amari is he's just a brain you know he is a very intellectual and a lot of i think people have a just. Don't realize quite how what a smart individual he is and he's demonstrating eight takes pride in it and you'll he lost his regular. Aw chess partner I think corner was should alluvia wasn't You know when he didn't stay so it's good that he's got somebody else to be on and it's kind of interesting the always seems to want to pick on corners but you know so i'm a. I'm kind of hoping that this You know the things will work out. We'll have to see You know the team obviously in a better position with amari field but this is one of those things. Now that we have to mark down we get to training camp which there is a chance that may include Nice little tease there. You get oxnard california. You make sure you say hey to the fellas for me because those were some good times. It was fun. Be out in oxnard. When we're waking up at three in the morning to start a radio show at three thirty pacific time five thirty texas time. That was a lot of fun. Well one other. I that people will have their eye on when it comes to how things lineup. Training camp is something that reporters noted in watching. Ota's here this week. And i'm interested to know if you think there is worth reading anything into it and that was taught archer reporting that it was not leighton. Vander esch or jason smith lined up at the linebacker position against the ones from the defensive side of the ball. It was actually mike. Parsons in kiana. Neil yeah let me go get a brown bag harper ventilating a little bit. What do we make of that if anything right is this. One of those games is where. I railed against it a week ago right. Everybody wants to overreact and again. That's why i appreciated your article to kind of bring us back down to earth about where we really are because all this is sunshine season right We got people. Charting quarterback passes. Trevor lawrence is getting ripped apart. They're in jacksonville for thrown to picks and then boom he comes back and has an incredible day. Who gives a rat's ass. Is this something that we can actually read into. I what i would like to read into. It is it. They are really going to walk at. Who is the most valuable player to have on the field. Not who's got the big contract not who they've got money sunk into but what's going to do the most of the defense if they are honestly doing that then. I think it's just all better for the for the team as a whole and the defensive ridiculous. That was what excited me about. It was like yes. We're not wasting time working with these guys that struggle last year. We're actually looking at louis. Thank might be the future Because i think they're hinting that vander esch and smith may not be the future linebacker. I don't think they'll get much.

"Tom's latest article. That'll get you right and yet you ready for the confidence level. You have on a number of different positions going with the cowboys but first and foremost. Let's start at the position that tom you wrote. You had the most confidence in going into twenty twenty one and that is where we start with the wide receiver position. Because mike mccarthy made it known today at his press conference that amari cooper could be sidelined into training camp with an ankle injury. I will say that into training. Camp is not into the start of the season. They're not giving us indication that he's not going to be ready to go by september. But if you're not ready to go in july you have to hope. Coin to be ready to go shortly. So yeah that's always a bit of concern your top wide receiver and the best player in your best position. Group is Hobbled a bit and we didn't really know about it on encouraging now the plus side are the positive side. Or the maybe the the ray of hope if you wanna look at it that way is may still have cd lamb who will step in as your wide receiver. One michael gallup will be wide receiver too. I think And then you've got some good depth with a cigarette. Wilson noah brown who or the backups last year and i think we're likely to see semi Glow local. i always have trouble with his name. Still got two and a half months to figure it out simi fajr oko for who they took in the fifth round which i was a little surprised given how deep they wore that they would spend a fifth round pick on a wide receiver. Now maybe i'm thinking okay. Sometimes they know things we don't know may have seen this shadow over amari cooper and were trying to have a little insurance but i wanna question on that. Do you really think we're deep. I think we're top heavy. And i think the top three match up against any top three in the nfl but after those top three. Do i have a pair of guys that i feel. Confident can come in and replace that type of production for two to three four weeks. I do not that confidence tom do. I i i am. I have some consciousness i think. Cedrick wilson has looked good in limited opportunities. I think he's a case guy who got buried old bit. The depth chart noah brown was showing some flashes that he's got more than he's displayed. It certainly it certainly going to put the team back. I just don't think we have told zastava if you're down If you don't have amari cooper and have to go with backups You know maybe for local to hokkaido. Just blossoming in really stepped up. But you also have the fact that they've been using tony polar laws about the slot receiver. You have a name. yeah he is. I think they were back. Is i think we now have a little clarity on. Body was getting so much work with the wide receivers. In addition to just the fact they had a shortage on the field. But i think he's another bit of an insurance policy and then you've got both of boy. Jarwin and dalton schultz Who can function as defacto. Slot receivers So yeah i think there is death there. If you use all your resources properly Is it a step back. Yes will they still be able to play and win in the nfc east with a healthy dak prescott and hopefully a health of line. And and ezekiel elliott. Who looks to be just raring to go out there and prove his critic wrong. Yeah i think they can This would not. This does not make me feel as nervous as other things in the past have it is not something that just dismissed as. Oh well no problem but I think the team has the resources and you know as long as long as dacca's healthy been this offense can work and have faith in him in killing more. I think you describe to me why. I have still comfortable with it. Even though i don't think the wide receiver position is deep. Because i think they're deep at weapons. I think they are deep in regards to potential options on the offensive end right to other tight ends. That can both catch the ball a pair of running backs who feel comfortable catching the ball out of the backfield and in the slot one more so than the other. Of course tony power much. Rather see him in the slot. Then ezekiel elliott as the reports have had him looking this Here are not as thus far but real quickly on the amari front. I just have a problem with the cowboys. Ever giving us the line that he's going to be fine. Come training camp. How many times have we heard that. Line uttered in june two only find that two months later the players are still not available and to your point if they had any idea around draft time that amari was going to be hindered. Are we talking about an injury. That has had him sidelined for at that point. By the time we get to training camp four months that is concerning to me. Especially when i read a line from one ian rappaport who described the injury to amari cooper as an irritation.

"Them and listen Amari Cooper is a top At best five wide receiver just winnings healthy just pure route-running can't garnham. And I'm okay with what they paid him. But like you said they can get out of that contract and save a lot of money cuz yes as much as I wanted them to pay that Prescott, they should have they did the right thing. That is somewhat going to limit what they can do not from the top and perspective but from in-depth perspective. And so if you can cut costs where you can with, you know, not too much diminishing return. I think that you should be able to do that. You should do that. Do you think the Cowboys are better today than when the season ended? Yes, obviously, I mean yeah, I mean Andy Dalton's not going to start the first game for I mean with that being said like if they and they've done enough this offseason to improve their roster. Yeah healthy and healthy and I think that is the biggest thing they did is and you know, cowboys Twitter and the radio has done a really good job. And listen those guys Jerry Jones Stephen..

"I don't think there is too much to give up. I mean, if you look it if you look at paces, first round success, right? What? What do they say about first round picks to begin with they have what a 50 50 right hitting. It's not a It's not a certainty, that's for sure. So it's like 50 50 as far as a standard general manager's concerned under Ryan Pace. What's been his head? It's been Ro Kwan, right? Yes, that is it. That's it. So I would you give up, bro? Quan Smith? Um yes. Mitch. Travis ke Kevin. Why? Yes. And who am I forgetting with pass rusher from Georgia Letter? Floyd Leonard Floyd, Do you wanna hear like this is give upon for for for two. Shaun, Watch this four first round picks right there. This is how the NFL draft is kind of a crap shoot. Okay, so just go back. Cause we always talk about, like, Give it three years, right? Just conservative. Why I went back to the 2015 draft. Okay. First pick of the draft is Jamis Winston. Followed by Marcus Marry OTA, followed by Dante Fowler. Defensive end Amari Cooper, Brandon Scharff, Leonard Williams, Kevin White, Vic Beasley, Erik Flowers, Todd Gurley Trae Waynes. Danny Shelton Andrews, Pete's Devante Parker, Melvin Gordon, Those Your top 15 picks Now there are some guys in there that you'd like to have right. But there are I don't think there's anyone in that group that you say. Oh, I can't live without him. Of course. I mean, Amari Cooper is really good. Sheriff is a very good offensive tackle letter. Williams has played significantly better in recent years. Quarterback. It's so valuable, someone said of the Herschel Walker deal. And Ricky Williams. Did that prove it was too much. Those air also running backs We've learned through the years quarterback conversations different that they're interchangeable. Yeah, but like S O There is a limit, though. I mean, are you going to give up your first round pick for the next 10 years? Let's just say like, I don't know what the rule is. But when you say Is there anything that's too much to trade for him? We'll have a give up at least three at least. Okay, Well, you first round five. Whatever they want, five and three second round picks. Is that too much? I don't think so. What about six first round picks and five second round picks like I mean, like you, but that's the question here. You're right. You're right. You get to the point where there's too much because going with that, will you well, but you also have to factor into the equation. You can't not make the deal based on fear that somebody's going to get injured. But by the same token, you also have to take into consideration that this sport is different than others, and there is a shelf life. Two players and their careers, especially quarterbacks. So like I would think that that would factor into your decision making and I'm with you. I mean, I'd be willing to give up a king's ransom. But I'm not going to give up five King's ransom's just because it's not I mean, there is a kind of be a limit to it. You can't just order back up anything without a quarterback. The Bears have reached the plaice twice in the last decade. Yes, but you know that they does that mean you need to give up your first round pick for the next 10 years without a quarterback. The Bears have won three playoff games in the 1st 20 years of this, the better it's heard century. Well, that's my point, but it would Your job becomes better and easier if you get the quarterback. Well, that is the key. Here. I get you drafted 20th. You're not going to get him. Okay? But if I let's say I got a different person looking over things I may be able to find the guy. At 15 or 20 that ends up being my my, my quarterback of the future, and then I don't have to give up all that stuff because I have a more competent Talent evaluator, Tony on the South side, Tony, you're on ESPN 1000. What's up? Hey, Thank you guys. Good show this one of, uh, talk about a couple subjects to Colby. And of course, let me start off, said I appreciate it there. Was 10 years old at that point, and that river to claim any So I remember them guys, But let's get back to that one caller that talked about the, uh, the, uh, Kobe and Derrick Rose there. That's not even involved. You take Colby. Derrick Rose was okay player. He could not shoot a jump shot and he would not play defense. So you're not gonna win with some type of guys? Plus, he was only +62. You're not gonna win a championship with a +62 point guard. You're just not gonna do it. Now talking about The shine. Watch it. Two first rounders. I'm not giving up more than two first round mine, Tony. Hey, listen, I'll tell you what he doesn't want to be there. You still have the win. The purpose of the want to sound watching coming here is to win the Super Bowl. If you give up too much, you're not gonna win the Super Bowl. Two first rounders and one of the guys off the defense. It is not going to be real Con Smyth. Boomer Mac, Huh? Keep one of them got you can't give up all of that and expect to win a Super Bowl in the next two or three years. And plus About the shark. I'm coming to Chicago for business purposes. I'm coming to make as much money as possible. Me being a black quarterback in the city of Chicago, Tony, I would I would say with regard to what you'd give up in terms of defensive players Like I don't value the middle linebacker as much as I value the cover corner and the pass rusher. I love rock, Juan Smith. But his position by its very nature is not as valuable as a pass rusher or cornerback. Right? So I would probably disagree with you on that front of it took another player. And again you're not gonna win the Super Bowl without without the quote that it is one anomaly If you do drafting 20th now, this is why I give you three of them. Okay, give you three. I give you three first trumpets. This one's gonna be 20. If I've got to Shawn wants and I've got other needs, but I still think I'm going to be better than I was this year. It is a bit better quarterback and I'll find a way to get my defense playing back on a much higher level. So 2020 two's first round pick is going to be higher than 20. Higher. I always you know, You know what I'm saying? 23 24 right. It's not going in. And then the following year when we're you know, we're on top of the NFL mountain because we've had to Sean now for two years. We're drafting 29th. Because we got to the NFC four. Why not? 1/4 1 mind at 1/4? Who cares? Well, there's there is a limit to begin with..

Pro Football Talk with Mike Florio
Where do the Cowboys go from here? To the trade deadline — but as sellers instead of buyers
"The Cowboys easier to write about when they win or when they lose? Uh, they're easy to write about what they lose. When they win. People feel good. You sell more newspapers when they win. That's a proven thing. So there's that. But, man what you know now, sometimes when they're bad, they're just not interested. And they just kind of go away. Like I don't know what it's like to right about when the Detroit Lions are bad. They probably just people are waiting for the Red Wings to drop the puck. But when the Cowboys are bad, there's usually nine different things in Iraq, And this year there, there might be that might be multiplied. So there's you can just pick out of a hat. And and and go from there. What is Jerry? June Jones do now? You know, one of the really disappointments with serious disappointments, obviously of code. But one of the rial lighter disappointments of this year is that he doesn't do press conferences after every game, because I can't imagine. What level he would have reached yesterday. Um, you know, it's Tze one thing to get beat up by Seattle or airy Arizona's offense. They can't stop the run. With anybody, not the Washington football team. They run for over 200 yards. And if you want to pick one area of the Cowboys that does not beat up my injuries. Their front seven They've got Jalen Smith. They got banned arrest. They've got the Marcus Lords they've got. They've got elegance. They got Everson Griffen. They got Tyrone Crawford. They got guys were supposed to be there, and they can't tackle anybody. And then you have the hit on Andy Dalton and that nobody seems to concern about the chief shot by Jon Bostic. That wasn't it took the announcers of minutes to kind of recognize, but they did eventually, So okay, that's that's a brutal Yep. Be Amari Cooper is standing there and there's others around there had to be a number of players see it. I would think the entire offensive line and to see it. On nothing. Nothing at all. I mean, I can't imagine. If that was Dad getting hit like that that they wouldn't have done something but that that just pointed to the the give up factor of this team they looked like in the first quarter. They're out there to see when it's going to go badly, and you know how much it's going to feel like a ground hog day. They got nothing on either side of the ball, but quitting is worse than losing to him. Yeah. And of course, coaches will always and players will fight. You didn't quit. Everybody has a great attitude by when you see something like that, and when you see it That And when you see a team that just gets gassed in the run and announcers every week, whether it's the money, night crew or yesterday was was Moose. Ah lot of destroyed job back and they get very quickly. The out of position on these place. They really get outflanked quickly without defense. I mean, they're they're talking around the fact that team looks very poorly prepared and has no idea what to do in the players. Never respond if Jerry had to do over coaching. Well, I mean, that's what What was it about Mike McCarthy flying in and spending one night at the Jones house and all they were just so wowed by this guy. They couldn't believe it. Now, what have you seen in any game that he brings? You didn't call the plays so anytime the offense was playing well earlier in the year, That's Kellen Moore is offense. So what is he doing over there that he brings Emily brought in all these coaches? Guys he had in Green Bay 10 years ago. Mike Nolan, who hired him 20 years ago. It's just this. This cronyism tied coaching staff. And you wonder, and you wonder how much Jerry thought about like a mat rule. He mentioned Matt Rule one time last December, just after Baylor played in the Big 12 championship game. What a great young coach to thought. Matt Rhule wass. And you're Matt Rhule took over a team that was just God awful and got ready Cam Newton, and they released whatever they are three and four. They compete. Uh, yeah. I mean, I don't know. I don't know that he wouldn't like to rethink this lot. Now it's the first year so I think both the pandemic the DAC injury, the offensive line being completely wiped out. Those going allow the coaches to skate for year. But he has to be thinking this. This may have been a Terrible higher. The Cowboys buyers or sellers at the trade deadline. You know, I don't think they have a lot to sell. I heard somebody saying trade one of their wide receivers. They don't need that many hundreds of it. That's the one thing they have is good wide receivers. You want to trade one of those go You know, Draft Ah, linebacker with a neck injury. That's what that's what excites you about rebuilding the team. I don't think they will do much. There's certainly not Myers, they get by. I mean, I don't know why in the world you would add. Do it to a terrible collection of talent as this many injuries, but I don't expect him to do a lot, actually.

Dallas Cowboys Offensive Line In Flux Due To Injuries
"Have lots of talk about as it relates the cowboys I just what I think of this team this year and the expectations after Jerry Jones finally made the gutting decision that led to Jason Garrett showing up the building every day with a binder underneath his arm and dutifully hoping that he would. Get a stay of execution cowboy fan celebrated not only the draft pick a CD lamb but a coach was skins. Mike McCarthy hasn't exactly translated into the season that they had hoped for, and we're expecting some of it has to do with injuries bobby and we'll get to those in a second but a lot of teams are having to deal with injuries this year. Yeah. I, mean, the team the cowboys have up here the browns they've got a lot of injuries to deal with I. Mean The seahawks had you know a lot of patchwork stuff that they were doing last Sunday against the cowboys and so injuries are an excuse they're not necessarily a good excuse though for this cowboys team I think they, they definitely are missing some guys. They probably feel a little bit like we're not gonNA know who we are for real until probably mid October when randy gets reinstated fully you get hopefully late and vander aeschbacher. Corner start getting healthy so. It may be a situation where the cowboys are kind of you know we're GONNA fight and we're GONNA get as best we can until we get healthy and that's not necessarily an excuse that they're giving. It's just this is the way it's gotta be, and we kind of make do a little bit because they are decimated in the secondary. They've had issues at linebacker they've you know had the issues along the offensive line they lost jar when they're starting tight end and So I, mean they've definitely. Had those issues the thing that they don't want. You, you can't really do anything about injuries. You just adapt as best. You can the thing they don't want his they can't have. Three drops and you know two and a half yards per touch from Zeke Elliott. They can't have Jalen Smith missing tackles consistently and still be sixty million dollar guy they can't have. Dak Prescott turning the ball over. They need to have him protecting the ball. They can't have you know some of these. Occasional Amari Cooper focus drops. You expect injuries you deal with those. What you can have is all of that and then along in the secondary, you can't have guys just making really low I q reads and busted covered just stuff that doesn't seem to be a factor of trying to learn a new defense. This just seems like flat out low I q stuff of not recognizing who's assignment is who's You know I think back to Jalen Smith's comment to a about. Throwing it out through a little bit. Maybe they need to simplify the playbook if our fans aren't familiar with that one, let's play that one real quick. People, find beams the defense could innocent the group. Absolutely. Absolutely. I. Believe. Allowing more allowing US more opportunities to Hound in on what? We're actually going to run in in our game plan. I believe it's important. That each and every player knows in and out what they have to do. With a smaller playbook, you you know gives us better opportunity to do that. And like I said this about as growing each and every week. On coaches are the same page, the players on the same page and we're just trying to do whatever it takes to get that much better. Each and everyone is that players that aren't capable of learning the playbook or is it possibly too complicated? I don't know but I, got to tell you for all the people that wanted Rod. Marinelli Outta here have been overly impressed with Mike Nolan's defense. Again, injuries are an issue, I mean you lose Gerald McCoy loosely Van Deresh. You lose your to starting Corner Anthony Brown, and Lucy, but even they were healthy in that first game. I didn't think this team look that good. No, and you know it's again it's one of those things where not even a mention he's been healthy for the season but Jordan Lewis missed all the camp. I. Sale. Yeah. Exotic Woods was a big part of your problem last Sunday against the seahawks but I think overall everybody's got to step up. You know it's funny. We had Had the funny line during training camp. When asked him do you think about opting out at all and he said, Nope, contract to your baby and there's a lot of guys back there right now in contractors Jordan Lewis Cheeto you've got exertive your woods is another one. And it's fascinating that they're seeming to have these issues not just with again, the adjustment or or or skill players opposite them it's they're just dropping the ball in terms of. Knowing really basic fundamental stuff that that should have been all ironed out already and and you can say, maybe that's a a an issue with you didn't have some of the same lead up time or some of the same work that you would normally get but everybody had those same sort of issues and and not everybody is having these same sorts of just busted coverage touchdowns. I. Think there's four already on the year that were just left wide open by somebody not knowing an assignment including three last week against the

Falcons could field an offense with 11 first-round draft picks
"So we had a truck a couple of signings by the Atlanta Falcons over the weekend right to pick up tight end Hayden Hurst from the Baltimore Ravens and they also acquired look Kwan Treadwell a former number one pick for the Minnesota Vikings yeah as the Atlanta falcons roster currently stands right now on offense alone just on offense they have a Levin former first round picks all of these former first round picks quarterback Matt Ryan first round pick Todd Gurley who sign when he was released first round pick Julio Jones first round pick Calvin Ridley first round pick the Quantrill first round pick Hayden Hurst first round pick left tackle Jake Matthews first round pick left guard James carpenter first round pick center Alex Mack former first round pick Chris Lindstrom the right guard former first round pick and right tackle Caleb McGary also that he first started his first round eleven is incredible let them all eleven of them a former first round pick I mean there's no way that's ever happened before right I can't believe that what ever but here's the real question if you had to redraft everyone of these players how many would be former first rounder this okay because I think this is fair Lidstrom McGarry and carpenter I've always been really what one or two years no it's been really since two thousand eleven okay yeah so let's remind me Gerry I think you were taken off or taken them out yeah okay so all of the other nine how many would be redrafted as a first round what's what's going on it's not right absolutely no question that runs for Todd Gurley no yeah I I would say no I would sit well I would say no one quite frankly his a conversation about the value of the position in general could also affect the new with him that was the thing coming out of college yes I look he has fifty eight rushing touchdowns over his first whatever seasons and all the other ones are either in the hall of Famer going let me just say six are we saying first rounder today or go back to the beginning again it would re drawing back to the beginning again because I'm currently the way Todd Gurley came out I mean would you not still take him in the first one that's the question now right are you going to pay for that kind of production from a running back anymore we saw Christian McCaffrey Leonard for net like there's been plenty examples of even a legal or not re signing a big second contract drafting a great one of the first round can still benefit you a lot okay I'm just trying to get to it you know is that what they've done in their right career does that mean where are the first roll worthy to me the girly thing is to your point he had a knee injury coming out of college and right when they signed with the red sign that long term deal with they're trying they got out of now then he was going to be chronic so to me the top group member he was the first one that airports reset the market for running backs and it turned out no he just re establish the old line of thinking but that first three years of production would you that would you spend a first round pick on that because we saw that rand's office how much in common now it always goes like this with the running game but in combination with an offense of line that did really well what you brought into what worth over would you pay for that as the foundation of your off I'm beginning to go the Melkite around here that I'm not sure running back as well because Melvin Gordon was in that same draft and Melvin Gordon is on his team I got an extreme I think that's the biggest conversation we could take out of this is the running back position record number mellow one point eighty never take a running back in the first Rana I wonder for we're slowly but surely going back to it I mean there was a contract a couple years ago with the first running back off the board was late second round out of Tennessee and I think we're going back to that after a bevy running backs being taken so we were definitely in on Matt Ryan yes we're out on Todd Gurley a legit is amazing looking back at Todd Gurley's draft class there's not a lot of got like if you're talking about reworking the top ten Todd Gurley might be the most wealthy in that group maybe outside of Amari Cooper yeah we can we can have that discussion later because that's in it read graphic I think is always fast and you have to wait a certain amount of time Julio Jones know quite well right Calvin Ridley first round too early again I think it's too early last year what he had sixty three receptions okay just under nine hundred okay seven touchdowns I would mean he also can't account for how bad that team ask me yes or no right now I'd say yes but I still think it might be too early Hayden Hurst no not because look they they took marketers later in the draft in the third round he clearly became the tight end of Baltimore which made Hayden Hurst by the way has taken in the first row before Lamar Jackson R. Jackson for Lamar starting you know tight on that team right now marketers you said right Hayden Hurst also dealt with some injuries and stuff there too that's okay in perfect sample size and when you have a guy come on like marquetry who could predict that the way that offense ended up of what he was the Mackey award winner a what he was coming home with one truck will no no Jake Matthews yes I think so I think so I think so do not I meet yeah yeah I mean yes he's been there he's been there is a second contract I also wrote a like doesn't miss a lot of games he's he's dependable yeah I think that's what it our printer are probably not I mean he's he's been a guy that's been in the league for nine years now dependable guy but we're talking about first round right you know I mean when you're twenty four we'll talk about for sure we're talking about top ten picks like a lot yeah yeah yeah I I'd probably lean toward no on that as well yeah yeah Alex Mack yeah absolutely yeah yeah and then the other than what we remember and I think Lidstrom would be headed in that direction yeah kill the guy who's more reach last year get killed the one I have questions about obviously we know the health concerns that existed before the draft earning a hard issue that he had had to deal with early in this time oxygen so there's a lot to hash out with those two but just I mean blows off the page when you just read that number the every single hundred dinners with that crew yeah what eleven Ryan still got its still on that ride to reach for the paycheck first but everyone else has to at least go for their wallets and act like there's also a common I do with you know with my dad so you got rid you got Ridley help you got got this R. Ridley Hearst links from a Gerry all still on their rookie deals you know wrecked yeah everybody else is is all for them yeah if I'm looking at yes correct so yeah they're all fascinating eleven a former first rounders on

Could Cowboys franchise tag Dak Prescott in order to keep Amari Cooper?
"The Dallas Cowboys may have bought themselves one more weekend to reach a deal with quarterback dak Prescott before he will I believe in negatively be franchise tagged the NFL man of his me I yeah I think he's going to come to his senses and say I'm gonna sign this deal and get a hundred million dollars delivered by Gerald R. Jones after I got the phone call from uncle lead in K. Zach clear out I would advise him dak son you're eight nine eight you're a good quarterback take the money and run not a lead quarterback take that money get that guaranteed a hundred million dollars and enjoy that check out your life and go win some football games I I do believe that he I think he eventually will reach a deal and I think it probably will even be before he plays another game but I said I'm not sure that I mean they can franchise tag him and then continue to negotiate but basically what I did the the news today is that the NFL has moved the franchise tag deadline it was going to be this Thursday to Monday the idea is they want to give teams as the there you know the players are voting on a new collective bargaining agreement that is going to have an effect on this whether or not you can tack to players or whatever the situation is there there they're going to try and let the players vote on that before but I teams have to designate the franchise tax so they have until Monday at noon now to designate now the another ad Edward no great no really good noted cowboys reporter in my opinion the second best add in all of sports media right right really sweet can I buy you something he might be gonna get your coronavirus he might be on your side here at because he says that according to his cowboys sources the team is working to reach an agreement with Amari Cooper right now yeah I mean it seems likely that he would sign before dak Prescott I always figured it would be the opposite right that eventually date the you know they would pay dak Prescott give him his is a long term deal is hundred million dollars guaranteed and then you use the franchise tag tag on Amari Cooper who is another player sort of in the dak Prescott we would you know do we'll house in that he's got an incredible upside he's done some things that you're like wow this guy could be to super Leah and then there'd been some no show days where you're like really are we going to make this guy one of the the you know five Hayes hive highest paid players at his position I'm Marc Cooper and so but it's possible and I don't know if he's willing to agree to a reasonable number I don't I'm not a cap expert I just can't give the cowboys have the highest paid running back and a hundred million dollar quarterback and wide receiver who's gonna make fifteen million dollars a year and the best offense of line in football with all these guys want to be there should be some phase angle or outside the fence in jail and with the how how can they some positions gonna suffer yeah as you sit down with all the positions and how much money you're allocated prizes Jerry has all the money in the world but the league only let you spend a certain amount and at some point you're going to run out of those funds so it very very interesting to see what

NFL 2020 Free Agency Predictions
"This is my favorite time of year I like to refer to it as camper time in the NFL as free agencies get ready to start here in a little less than a month and that this kind of stuff happens at the combine doesn't it a little bit yeah and and first of all one nice thing about the profession that I have is you know I can't say Hey I'm busy and then like you can turn on the TV and I got a phone line or not this is nice you got to tune in to get out he actually it's but anyway you know this year just because of the way the schedule is two weeks between when free agency begins in and won the combine is you may actually see less tampering than than ever before just because there's there's a camper window and there's a lot of time to to get things done I mean there's there's definitely a possibility that teams leave here without really having a great sense with the free agent market is and without really having a great sense of where guys are going and then it should be two weeks of scrounging around and ensure trying to get the info and you know some of the other stuff that we live in our jobs in I've been intrigued by this NFL collective bargaining agreement that's been going on between the players and the owners one of the things that I'm really intrigued in is the movement from Tuesday to Thursday for a franchise in transitional tags yeah I did that happen mainly they're just not gonna be enough time I mean there is a possibility tomorrow that there's a new CBA there's also a possibility that there's no new CBA and teams are going to have the ability to franchise and transition players and that landscape changes dramatically I mean you have teams like you know the Tennessee Titans which could lose one of their top players in you know either Ryan Tannehill R. Derrick Henry you have the cowboys who could franchise or transition you know teams can use both if there's no new CDA if there is an issue BA they can only use one that's dramatic so I think they they just wanted to give teams time to really find out their options figure out what they're going to do if we get any CPA which is no guarantee we get sold sold your timing on this is within the next twenty four hours or so because it's possible yeah so so that's it that's it that's interesting because when you look at all the deals that are out there you would think that the owners will go ahead and secure the gods they want right now rather than wait to find out what's going to happen the collective bargaining agreement yeah but the problem is you have agents who know that the salary cap might go up I mean it's not going to be a lot but it also goes up five million dollars if you're dak Prescott don't you go or you know whoever Amari Cooper whoever that is a little more that like if you're planning on making a guy salary act and the salary cap goes up to five and five you know five million dollars a year then the player should be given more right so I think what you're seeing now is everyone's in a little bit of a standstill because no one knows what the actual landscape it is and it's not a place where in a lot because in the NFL everyone planned so meticulously but because of the CBA landscape that's exactly what's happening right now I even if you were a fly on the wall during our show on Friday we had a ton of discussions about this this new collective bargaining agreement that is going to be voted on by the the full arsenal of players and and big al was the the team representative for the NFL PA for eight of his nine years in the league it is very much bothered by the fact that the the team representatives were nods able to vote first before they went to the full legal why did they skip that part of the process we which part of the process because well what what we put out their own nothing Friday is that they're going to the plaza sociais Asian is going to bypass the the player reps and go right to the players and now we found out that it's going to be a simple majority from the player's association player reps and then they'll decide whether or not they take it over to the players it's just it feels like that it's been shut down to players the approach right now yeah I need it don't delay it's going to be now is there's so we we've seen the executive committee which actually negotiated the deal that both against it right and I'm kind of way in which crazy balancing them kind of way and and then the only change now is they're going to do a vote of the NFL P. A. player wraps but they don't need a two thirds vote now they only need a simple majority to pass it on to the entire group of players that's been a small ship but it might actually you know actually get a deal done yeah the two thirds of the player reps no recommended then they make their official recommendation to the players to ratify it that's really the only difference so it is actually going to the rap's first before the entire body of players take in do you think that there was a chance that what the executive committee voted on and discussed during their meeting with the NFL owners and that's a that's a board of eleven players so there's no ties is always a tie breaker okay voted against it do you think that that seventeen game was added at the last moment in the twelfth hour all now that's what's interesting in every single negotiation not the executive committee has had with the NFL owners has included a seventeen game every single one every single every single offer back and forth has been based around the seventeenth game that's what's that's what's just crazy about the executive committee coming out against it is they've known that every day getting a C. B. A. don was predicated under adding a game and of course getting a lot more money for the players what they want there was some information out there that was released I think over the weekend that the seventeenth game is gonna be played for two hundred fifty thousand dollars cap yeah is there any truth to that it's kind of true so it you know I. as in everything else trying it really depends on how you look at so you know for most of the players you know eighty percent of the players they're gonna get properly compensated for adding a seventeen they'll get a a raise in their game check basically the get an additional game check for the players who make now for the players who make a significant amount more you know J. J. watt of the world for instance they will not get any more than twenty fifty thousand dollars for that seventeen game alone but obviously there's signing bonuses roster bonuses and all sorts of different ways to change salaries so it only applies to the game check so yes it's true but it affects an unbelievably few amount of players yeah it where there's a will there's a way to get these guys paid but you know we talked about it would you just kind of popped over that kind of speed bump over that because if you take away twenty percent of the top twenty percent of the NFL are we talking about the XFL now we're talking about the base of Reuters minimum guys rookies except you know kind of players

Cowboys may use both tags on Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper
"The final year specifies that each of the NFL's thirty two teams can use both the franchise and transition tags this particular offseason that historic guarantee. If you don't know what that is you know franchise in transition tags in general I mean we. We have all sorts of information if you really want to understand the depths of them but in general the franchise and transition tag are ways that NFL teams can protect players that are set to be free agents. If you don't WanNA player to hit free agency you don't want me hit the open market. Bam you slapped a franchise or transition tag on them and typically generally only one is available to each NFL team so you have to pick which player you want to place a franchise tag on right or transition. Whatever the movie and so the fact that all. Nfl teams would be able to utilize both of them. This offseason really served as an incredible asset for the cowboys wrote about this last year. We wrote about this in March. Nineteen how we talked about then. Hey next offseason. The cowboys could have this really awesome tidbit in the that was the title of the article. That could really help them. Because of the cowboys find themselves in a position and we we kind of forecast this year ago where they have three big players that new contract extensions that are set to be true free agents Dak Prescott Amari Cooper and Byron Jones. You knew that and so while you can shake combination however you want in all likelihood the Dallas cowboys were going to Franchise Tag Prescott because it seems incredibly unlikely that deal done before that happens. Before the franchise tag deadline and then they were going to place the transition tag on either Amari Cooper or Byron Jones. Whoever you believe more likely personally I believe it was Amari Cooper but that would prevent both of those players from hitting the open market. Which means the cowboys could protect them. That's a big deal in. It seems like in this again. My personal opinion and and other people it'd be to share these thoughts and certainly a lot of our readers and commenters and listeners but a lot of people had kind of sort of made the assumption that the cowboys have accepted that they're going to lose Byron Jones. And you know what I think. I think I speak for all of us. That are listening. Here we're all gathered around the campfire. You know what if the cowboys is Byron? Jones not ideal but at least they have Dakhil these they have. They can figure this out. Maybe they spend their first round. Pick on cornerback. Whatever not trying to get to far into those weeds but the ability to keep both deck and Amari was and is a gigantic advantage. That the cowboys have going for them. How ever if a new collective bargaining agreement is reached in so far again at the time of this recording. We have the half that the owners have to comply with if a new collective bargaining agreement is reached it will essentially rendered the ability for teams to use both tags moot and they will revert to normal circumstances where there can only place one tag on one player. Now if you have not out by now you need to know that this hypothetical world which is I would say somewhat imminent in somewhat inevitable based on the rates that the collective bargaining agreement is happening and again as we sit on Thursday night. There's so many players kind of tweeting that they don't like the new. Cba proposal and whatnot so there could be some back and forth but if this is finalized before free agency and there's still a couple of weeks and those are going to be very important weeks then. Dak Prescott has all of the leverage in the world and all of the leverage in the world and we touched on this at the end of Thursday's episode because if that's the case and you and I were representing Dak Prescott. Then guess. What our point in our proposal to Jerry Jones Stephen Jones in the cowboys organization? Hey Dude if you don't if you don't get a deal done with us if you don't give deck all the money's basically you're going to have to tag them we all know that and if you tag back guess what you cannot tag anybody else if you tag back. Guess what. Amari Cooper and Byron Jones are going to be true free agents. You're going to be competing with the market for them. That is not ideal and other cowboys went from a world where they were probably going to lose one of the two. Probably going to be Byron Jones right to now that could potentially lose both of them which which would be a complete and utter disaster. And you know you can. You can play hindsight's twenty twenty but if the cowboys had just up to their contract offer to Dak Prescott Uruguay. I mean. We're talking thirty. Three thirty four million dollars per year. Everybody freaked out about that last year. That would look like such a bargain out. That's what happens with these deals. We've talked about that Matt Ryan to use thirty million dollars annually. Everybody freaked out now. That looks super cheap. And if the cowboys had done that they would have the ability to use the franchise tag on either Amari Cooper or Byron Jones win this ultimate sort of hypothetical becomes a reality and they would theoretically only lose one. Maybe not even either. So now the cowboys win till the eleventh hour is going to cost them in a literal financial sense where they're gonNA have to pay Dak Prescott more money and it could cost them in the capacity that they are now going to lose Byron Jones. And maybe even Amari Cooper now I should say that there is a a ray of hope. I suppose because you know look you may think this and I don't mean new but I mean I mean other person the other person here my think Jerry Jones is just. You know the cowboys. They don't know what they're doing. They're messing up. But there is a possibility. Because Jerry Jones is typically a big proponent for things like this the specialty. Nfl adding another wildcard round and round and other wildcard teams. A seventeenth game that is upping the value for every NFL owner. Jerry Jones is obviously very involved when I was on. Espn San Antonio on Thursday. We head John Maclean from the Houston Chronicle legendary. Nfl reporter one of the best. Ever do it and I John. I said look you know. Is it possible? The Jerry Jones kind of knew that this was coming that he was going to lose his ability to use both tags and somewhat prepared. Here's John Maclean said on. Espn Antonio John. You mentioned the The franchise transition tag loophole. That may be filled up and unavailable to the cowboys. Now maybe I'm giving Jerry Jones and co a little bit too much of the benefit of the doubt here. But in your estimation do you think that they you know Jerry Jones at least and we don't know the way the votes win but that he would seemingly be at the very least somewhat in support of this which would negate the ability to tag to players if he did not have a plan in place to at the very least keep one or two of these. You know high price three free agents. They have Adak Amari. I'm Byron Jones before the Franchise. Tag deadline that that's a great point. Jerry Jones. One of the movers and shakers in driving this agreement and even though it could hurt him. But I think Jerry all along you can't keep everybody I expect them to Cape Prescott and probably Cooper if Byron Jones those on the market. He's got a chance to be is defensive defensive back in yesterday I think teams are going to line up to give him a record-breaking deal. I don't think they would do that. With the Mario Cooper. There's too many good receivers. It's a great year for receivers coming out the draft. It's a good year for corners. If you don't mean Horn and the top after the first round so say they let Burne Jones go say the replacing with a cheaper free agent or they go after a corner in the draft and they can even train them they might have their pick of all of them no big deal John Maclean said it was a great point no big deal deal no big deal but anyway I think that if you're looking again if you're trying to be positive trying to be optimistic. I think there are two things to note one is that this is not probably not a surprise to cut the cowboys. Brass right like they had to have known that the collective bargaining agreement could be You know a a new one could be struck and therefore the ability that they were potentially leaning on to utilize both tags would be rendered moods and so they had to potentially be prepared for that. Maybe they all prepared for that. Maybe the preparedness is the preparedness to lose both Byron Jones in Amari Cooper. Who knows the other thing is that Adam schefter head tweet about this where he said Some something to the effect of if there's a new CBA expect a flurry of roster moves. And it's possible that you know we. We've heard so much about how different players in different guys and especially quarterbacks are awaiting the new CBA strike new contracts because they want a piece of whatever. The new percentages that players are going to get and whatnot and so we'll see so it also is possible that maybe the deal lanes right after the new. Cba struck because maybe DAX team is waiting for a new CBA to all to make their move. So who knows? But that's the positive side of things if you're trying to be positive so it is what it

Cowboys to move on without Jason Garrett
"Jason Garrett's time up as coach of the Dallas Cowboys Edward a reporting Jerry Stephen Jones have decided coach will not be part of the organization moving forward on Friday and paid Simmons on why this process lasted so long after the season to other Jerry and Stephen Jones have moved slowly out of respect for Jason Garrett you know they have a long history with him as a backup quarterback you to this is that coach a head coach's father was in the organization when Jerry bapa team as a scout and they finally concluded that phase of this process and that's going to end with Jason Garrett not being a part of the organization beyond his expiring contract and when exactly they make that announcement I thought sure what I've been told soon and that the next phase will have them moving into the process of interviewing candidates in the battle begin quickly after phase one is totally finished off yes was contract set to expire January fourteenth status with the team at issue since last February the cowboys didn't give a contract extension they missed the playoffs in twenty nineteen finish eight neighbor the four time in his tenure as coach Keyshawn Johnson on the job candidates and Jerry Jones himself he was on sports and we stand ready to make a decision on it there was the eight their long term in the obvious would clearly felt that their work you say while they waited till Thursday well the food that just won't really it just is so you kind of say okay take a deep breath we get back to the facilities we talk about a little bit we think about we pondered overnight we need or Thursday we meet on Tuesday we meet on Wednesday we have a conversation and we finally so you know women the best thing for us to do if not give the public what they looking for what they looking for me to do is be extremely mad and walk out of there on Sunday night if fire you on the tarmac so instead of doing that this call wait a couple days are you playing for the cowboys you're familiar with Jerry Jones and and and his thinking all what happens next now in this search for the next cowboys head coach I think a guy like Mike Zimmer Minnesota Vikings head coach could potentially be a candidate you say how could that be well I I II coach there in the deepest corner along try defensive coordinator for Jerry Jones is the bill Parcells fact either stay here they know what they're getting in that particular coach but also there's a young officer coordinator in cabin step band he this sitting there in Minnesota the Minnesota Vikings don't want to part ways with him they don't want him all of a sudden start to get interviews and become a category another team so I would be surprised if somehow might dimmer wind up being the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys in the cabinet she takes over as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings so a lot of story lines this call come about here over the next with date but I think this time around you will get the head coaching job right where the coach may be season one more before we go do you think that at this point Jerry Jones is ready to surrender more control to a head coach now then he has been willing to in the past as bill Parcells left and and I want to turn this on your stamina I am right now status is not a defense Jerry Jones was some what he is and even as well as we clay as well as Jerry junior what is your you Jones gone wrong with that organization other than the head coaching hire that's a very good question that's very good everybody everybody everybody said here you're you're here the one on that team thank you for calling the latter team for the National Football League I would I would argue and say that their top five channels it is four tally dole is a National Football League the problem is that head coach because you're you're not holding the plate yeah well that gives the player is a free pass for having innate need season the talent on the field didn't win enough games he and Garrett will finish as the second longest tenured and second most winningest coach in team history Tom Landry a record of eighty five and sixty seven the wonders to playoff games unable to get past the divisional round Mike wells Myron Medcalf on Freddie Fitzsimmons the Dallas Cowboys there you know they draw attention but the the the days of being America's team and wanted to be part of what is age and it's not the same anymore it is not the same strictly because of what you have to deal with away from just coaching of football team is not simply you know put together a strong staff the coaster brakes of Amari Cooper Ezekiel Elliott and dak Prescott it's also having the answer constant questions from your boss the owner Jerry Jones deck could become a headache when you're you can't simply just focus on the task of putting your team in the proper position the try to have success there's a side show that comes with it and some people are built or not built to be able to deal with that so you got to find the right coach who is not only a great Exynos guy but somebody who's mentally strong enough to handle the constant you know looking over the shoulders and the pestering of your boss meddling in the inside of things wonder why things are not going well or to give us suggestions on what you should be doing that's not something easy that everybody can handle that type of situation well it and not everybody wants it and that's why I think a lot of these cultures your Matt rules related rallies urban Meyer's why except that to me if you're not going to modernize the structure of your organization so that your owner can do what every other owner does and take a backseat and not be this forward facing figure who's hosting its own press conferences after the game sometimes undermining the head coach then then how can you expect to attract a great candidate bomb out rule no one eight I'm leaving Baylor I got a chance to build something there if I'm leak in Raleigh I'm in Oklahoma and every year I get a chance to go to the college football playoff leave in Oklahoma where I can coach for another decade at least about continue to succeed ever murmur Meyer I'm not leaving LA or on the TV analyst making good money watching a lot of football injuries bouncing around the country see a lot of teams to go to Dallas where I've got a deal with Jerry that's why I think it's going to be difficult if Jerry Jones wants to continue to be Jerry Jones I don't think Mike he's going to end up with any of the top candidates identifying potential replacements Bobby carpenter and fox college football reporter Bruce Feldman gas on Freddie impede Simmons Stephen Jones Jerry Jones offered that coaching job urban Meyer she would say I think that's a hard job to say no urban probably wouldn't be needing to be for another year is that all you but who knows enough the big job at the glamorous job and remember the nose you know damn owns his courage and damn ongoing expound acted it all back thank god yeah I was supposed to do the oil itself journal part of mine and to buy that it was offered so you're going to want to meet your need to guide it was a proven track record we've done it before who's been in the playoffs the only guy that I look at the newest hires cycle that's really available is Mike McCarthy and it's free thank god I'm not that I'm not the biggest Mike McCarthy stand the world but he's the only guy that it holds no one Barty and that is the only thing that Jerry Jones once he is getting older is that you know you if you spend more time on this earth that he's going to spend has the last was starving if you get that oracle Marty troche with them of the order would love to put it in there Mike you've done that you chose to leave and you've been in the playoffs he's done a good job that would be my selection I don't know if they don't know what it does do checks all

Antonio Brown, released by Raiders, reportedly signs with Patriots
"Friday yes Friday before Antonio brown was released by the raiders and signed by the patriots will Kane gave his Superbowl picks I think you're gonna see championship game will be the Dallas Cowboys against the New Orleans Saints and I expect Ezekiel Elliott and dak Prescott to get the better of who dat nation I expect the Dallas Cowboys to represent the NFC in the Superbowl in the AFC I think you're a C. championship game is going to be a rematch of last year's New England Patriots in cancer the case and I think and tell the party is over I'm gonna be the last one out don't worry boys I got the lights I'm a stick with the patriots until the last beers drank your Super Bowl is New England Patriots against the Dallas Cowboys and here comes the objectivity the New England Patriots and Tom Brady beat the Dallas Cowboys in the Super Bowl and we'll cane on Monday in the wheel came show can say Tom Brady Antonio brown and the patriots can beat the cowboys in the Super Bowl ESPN NFL reporter ed Werder on more the cowboys in their season opener and how they'll use as he killed Elia against the giants cowboys head coach Jason Garrett does expect Ezekiel Elliott to play against the giants Ellie is practicing for his third straight day now that is hold out is ended Garrett said the coaches are going to the game of the planned one they're still developing as evaluate what they're seeing from Elliott it'll be a flexible plan one that can be modified as the game plays out but the cowboys have office of concerns beyond Elliott dak Prescott has its own a pass to Amari Cooper to game because a receiver missed nearly a month with a heel injury tight end Jason Witten center Travis frantically playing their first read. season games since twenty seventeen here's what Prescott told Cooper as a make final preparations he said everything that we do in the next couple days we have to do it full speed we've got to be getting game reps right now Prescott said it's not necessarily because they need to make up the missed time you just said we need to be sharp in everything we do from this point forward that is the S. AB reacts to fines from Raiders, has new helmet
"We have to address a couple more here. We're gonna start in with exactly what is going on in oakland oakland with antonio brown's so many things have happened. It's hard to keep track of and hard knocks being there to help the situation for the raiders in dealing with their star wide receiver and the various antics surrounding him the helmet issue has been well documented for some time for those who don't know antonio browns helmet that he has used his entire career was deemed illegal by the n._f._l. It wasn't safe enough for antonio so he decided to filed a suit saying that he wasn't enough time to adequately find a helmet. He likes to wear for the games. He filed two different grievances. Both it did not fly with the n._f._l. And he lost both of them so he has had to find a helmet he has reported to camp the newest thing being he has has been fined by mike mayock general manager for missing so much time with the team. Antonio brown has stated how upset he is about these fines being levied on on him but frankly i love antonio brown's charisma. I love the way he uses the media to help him and you got to think about the raiders in with hard knocks with everything around their team right now media wise. There's a lot of scrutiny jon gruden being signed that ten year one hundred million dollar contract trading khalil mack trading amari cooper everyone in the n._f._l. Media is trying to keep tabs on what's going on in oakland and antonio brown by taking taking so much of that media heat. He has really made it easier for guys like p._j. Hall arden key cleveland feral jonathan abrams josh jacobs all these rookies and second year players that really have some potential have not had to deal with this media blitz because antonio has been there to kinda shield them from that and on that side i think that the raiders as an organization as a fan base need to thank antonio brown for taking that heat off of their other players so they can develop and really dig into the system not having to worry about media relations however now with this new grievance hopefully it's nothing between antonio brown and mike mayock. They can just move past. It's obvious that he had to get fined for missing so much time with the

Who is more important to the Dallas Cowboys: Ezekiel Elliott or DeMarcus Lawrence?
"Would you say is more important to the success of the dallas cowboys ezekiel elliott demarcus lawrence simple question well. I would say this is zeke elliott but for reasons that aren't as apparent. He had seventy seven catches ashes. He's a factor in their passing and we we agree. Zeke light is more valuable to the dallas cowboys and demarcus lawrence marcus lawrence pete over twenty million dollars. A year out of context is everything zeke. Elliott has two more years on his contract. He has no place to go. They could franchise him after that so that is a big look. He's really important but where else this is he gonna go. He has two years remaining. That's what makes it hard and it's not just the two years remaining the to franchise tag after that third franchise tag if they wanted so you could make the argument that dallas controls zeke's rights for five more seasons and get ice about until he decides through the collateral damage and all of this is the play the teammate you sitting there you you know nancy. We had the preseason bahamas. You're now. Everybody's focus week. One game plan in for the giants here. We're planning for the giants. We're getting ready for a divisional opponent and our best player has named reported. You know how much of a down of that is going into the the season will all everyone has all this optimism because everyone's owino right every it's a clean slate for everyone. You had a data zeke elliott. There hasn't ed's reporting and damian from a player's perspective. Here's the other thing anybody could get zeke elliott signed. That's the easy part. The context is dot prescott amari cooper byron aaron jones and starring see so you want your teammate in there but in the back of your mind as veteran. You're like wait a second. How much of the pies left for me so you have to really artful in terms of saying well. I got to be able to get jailing smith signing because he can't leave the marcus lawrence of good pass rusher but i gotta leave enough money for these other players because the starting quarterback he can't go anywhere. He may not happy elite but they've won. A lot of games with the sky is one. We'll say mike and i'm sorry but this is the dallas cowboys for for building team around zeke elliot. You look out of the dallas. Cowboys are constructed. They are like one of the few teams that their bill ronald running back. Okay so dallas cowboys put themselves in this position right now and now they're paying the piper because zeke elliott zeke elliott has perform and then maybe the top running back in the national football. He sees what the future is running running back position and he's sitting there saying i'm not i need it. I need to withhold services right now if i don't do it right now. I'm never going to get paid like like the other top running back. You're the best argument you can make for zeke elliott. They were fifth in the n._f._l. Last year and time of possession translate look at their defense. They were top five defense because they were never on the field. There were twenty two point scored but zeke elliott kept the their defense off the field bottom line. What's the eleventh-hour in this. I think that once you get to next week next week we get past monday or so monday or tuesday not complete the opener which again juries now bracing for an expecting and i think the problem with this situation with melvin gordon the longer it goes on the more things are said the more issues pop up we already heard jerry jones one say zeke coup which basically insulted zeke as agent so these things going. You never expected last year. After a couple of weeks. Steelers offensive lineman would be critical levian bell and they were and that inflamed the situation association and led to hurt feelings and eventually led to levy on bell sitting out the year so once you get this far into the game and they're so many sides with so much at stake everything is very personal sensitive and it's very risk but there there's a big distinguishment here. Fear does the work of reason. Maybe i'm bell was a free agent. J._v. soundcloud can be free agent. Zeke elliott's going anywhere at some point. He has to be reasonable because if he wants to play football is going to be all you with that but what i would say to you there is this in the next time zeke elliott steps on the football field he has he's not gonna be out there until he gets new contract when it gets a new contract what's the guarantees on that you tell me why would he stepped foot on fulfill. Find me take who am i sell it. I'm not stepping foot on a football field until i have my thirty forty whatever the number raising guaranteed millions of dollars and i'm not risking myself getting an a._c._l. Injury were some kind of career threatening injury. That would damage value. You keep your three point eight million dollars dollars this year. You keep defines. They come with that. We'll see how it goes if i'm sitting out the season and not playing and there are questions every day season to sabotage and if i'm jerry jones is stephen stephen jones. I'm betting on my offense align. I'm betting on good quarterback. I'm getting on the return of jason witten and every game i win. I'm more voted in my position and that's how why this whole thing is gonna implant and i've been in that situation. I'm like boy. We hold up without the role rears omnitel his agent we can but that's what kept me up at night and that's really where the cowboys are can only pollard pass protect. I promise you the first time that he gives up a sack. That's gonna put more money in zeke. Elliott's pocket and that's why i said at the beginning zeke elliott is right. The dallas cowboys right. Both sides are right now. The question is figuring out a solution that works for everybody that helps them save their season and help zeke. They don't either talk about it again on monday today to announce they are inactive ninety minutes before kick-off. I'm saying the eleventh hours like ninety one minutes as long as as long as he can get sign on that day on sunday before kick-off saturday four o'clock right he'd have to be in a roster exempt. It's a great point susan because they could get roster exemption so maybe they could sign him. He could work out for a couple of days but it'd be saturday and then as you're limit though

Stephen Jones: Talks Tank Negotiations and Rule Changes
"Deck Prescott Ezekiel Elliott and Amari Cooper are all still looking for new deals but unlike Zeke deck. Mari are actually at cowboys cowboys camp here in California. Here is what Steven Jones said about the negotiations. We've got three really good football players that we're dealing with here. We can't push the issue issue unless we want to be a market center and we're damn sure not going to be a market center because of all the things that go with being a Dallas Cowboy we I want to be fair but at the same time we don't want to do things that are out of line because we can't afford to be that way whether it's Dak whether it's Amari whether it's Zeke they all understand Dan. We've got a whole group of young players coming behind them that want to be Dallas cowboys. I WanNa stay here when we save money. It's not saving Jerry and I a dollar. It's just money. That's it's going to go to another player very convinced that we're going to get these deals
