"Then the difference is like, I didn't know this whole world existed. I mean, I've had automotive has provided a lifestyle for me where I went from being dead broke actually when I entered into the business to having this phenomenal lifestyle. My brother and I were the first of our immediate family to travel to Europe together. And so he's also an entrepreneur, which is really cool. But yeah, I would say life experience. I'm living in a life that I didn't even have the perspective to dream of at that time. I love that. I love that. Okay, so now you mentioned travel. So where's a place on the list that you want to travel to that you haven't traveled to yet? I would love to do Bali someday. I haven't done Bali yet. I'd love to do Italy. You know, and the Amalfi Coast is definitely at the top of the list. We like those. We like those. Okay, something that you're reading, listening to or watching, that is inspiring you that you would want to share with others. Oh, this is a very interesting question. So I am always reading about, I'm always reading some type of self development book. My friend Sarah hawley has written a book called the conscious leadership, which is very inspiring to me. She has a company called the grill remotely. And they are, they find job positions for people all over the world that are working remotely. And so I'm very fascinated by the business model and what they're doing there. And then she has this conscious leadership is that is everybody's inclusive. So she has her executive leadership meetings and board meetings and any one from her team is invited down to the receptionist. So it's completely open. She said, man, it's just really. Made everything absolutely transparent and honest. And so I'm just fascinated by that..

"You to play in your next trip I love this section I do too I travel takeover Who doesn't love it That's what's happening in this week's pursuit section produced by our travel editor Nikki eckstein and company So Nicki was actually traveling at the time that we put this broadcast together She's right now on a plane back from Anguilla So we went right to her boss We went to the top Bloomberg pursuits editor Chris rouser to tell us what we need to know Chris your team literally all over the world for the series of stories A big theme of the section is family I want to get into that in just a moment but when you're doing this and you guys do this a lot you look around the world How do you put it all together You said I was going to tell you what you need to know And the first thing is that you need to know is that I am not mad at Nikki You should be Jell-O After 5 days she has been in Anguilla trying restaurants and hotel though So she's there for work Yeah yeah Oh she's there for work Thank you So when we put together these lists Nikki has a running a vast database of every new hotel opening major restaurants major tours that are opening up cruise lines So we know everything about going on especially in the luxury field And what makes our list a little different from other lists is that we really do focus on luxury access and luxury places to stay and things to do when you're traveling So take the Amalfi Coast for example We featured this year now The Amalfi Coast hasn't changed a ton in the past few decades It's always been a wonderful place to go But this year in particular there have been a couple of new luxury hotels opening So that's the reason why that would end up on our list this year The other thing that we focus on this year was places that you can go to be together You maybe don't want to go to October 1st Be with thousands of other people but maybe you want to take a family trip and you want to rent out a few tents on a safari and you can go with the big group or maybe you want to go to a hotel that specializes in villa So you can rent a little house for your family Or you go in a sort of a drinking trip with your friends to Wales So each of these little places has a little bit of a suggestion on how to spend some time with people or just meet locals Well one thing that caught my eye see you have places all over the world on this list But I want to start with somewhere that's a little closer to home for a lot of people Booker raton is a cool place to hang out Has anybody ever seen Seinfeld Come on You don't go to Pokémon And suddenly cool Boca Raton This is hard for people to believe But Boca Raton and the area so Fort Lauderdale Palm Beach have a bunch of new hotels that are kind of they kind of compete with luxury big luxury resorts elsewhere like bajamar and the Caribbean There's a Mandarin oriental that's going to open up there in the Boca area And there's some really serious restaurants Major food group was the carbone in New York and Miami They're doing a takeover of an old golf Clubhouse there That's currently called flamingo grill So there's actually like a lot of cool stuff to do there And it's obviously still as beautiful and sunny as it was when you're referenced for there Well it was the place in Seinfeld Chris Del Boca this that Yes It can eat early I love it I love it I love it What I do like to so much of what's in there 'cause I've been thinking I've never done a safari I would love to do it There's so much great outside stuff Yeah And you know the big thing in safaris now is walking safaris So you think of you think of a safari you get in it you maybe with no talk you go out you try to see the big 5 lions elephants hippos now in a couple of the places that we feature One is in Zambia and the other is quasi natal in South Africa You walk around You're on foot So you really it may not seem like it's for everybody and it may not be for me But it's a very incredible way to get up close with some of these animals And particularly some of the walking safari is really focused on birds so it's not as carnivore focused But also these all these safari outlets are really conservation focused especially the ones that we feature And so you can go oftentimes you can rent a small group of tents together for your family or your group of friends And then you learn about conservation And you can actually help the conservation and lead the funds that your trip supply actually go towards protecting the animals that you want to go and see I love that Ecotourism I've done some chips yoga trips where it's you plant trees while you're there I was going to say that the walking tour Tim I was thinking about you and the story we just talked about with max chaffin's job that if you are on Strava and you're serious athlete a runner cyclist you could probably do that walking tour 'cause you could run really fast away from the animals Yeah that was gonna say probably Yeah running Hey I want to talk a little bit about the next in place Romania why did you guys choose this part of the world to call the next place Wait what So Romania actually was before the pandemic before I had a child Romania was on our list of where my husband and I wanted to go And most people when they think about Romania they think about Transylvania And so actually one of the big the biggest tour groups in Romania is called beyond Dracula Because there is more nationwide investment in getting you to know more about the country other than that And it's an incredibly beautiful place There's mountains There's hand painted monasteries all throughout the hills Bucharest is being really revived and becoming kind of a culinary destination And there's a couple of new hotels in Bucharest which is sort of why we decided to do Romania this year but really there's just tons in Romania that's new to probably a lot of people Talk us to about the places that you thought were maybe unusual when somebody kind of came to you and said hey Kris what about this or that You thought oh I didn't know about that Boca Raton was definitely I had to be sold off Not going out my list Chris Newport in Rhode Island Oh yeah Was also one that I was sort of like well everybody knows about Newport and what you get when you go there which is these big beautiful old mansions maybe on time on the water sailing But there's a bunch of new hotels there with some really fabulous restaurants opening up There's a sailing museum there And also the HBO show Gilded Age the new Jillian fellows show is going to start There's actually going to start later this month So it's going to really draw a lot of attention to the area and we expect a lot of people to want to go I'm going to say when I read that too I mean I've done the mansion tours and everything And I prefer things like watching westerly which are a lot more Miller and just gorgeous beaches but it is interesting to see how some of these areas are kind of going through some transformations Yeah yeah And we have we have the catskills on our list too which is if you live in New York you probably know some people who fled for the hills during the pandemic and have been living there And as a result there's a lot of restaurants and hotels opening up there So the catskills also doesn't feel like necessarily a fresh place to go But there's actually a lot of press things to do once you're there Another thing that I was sort of like huh was Singapore And we have a lot of people a lot of our audience lives and works in Singapore And not a lot of Asia is open to western tourists right now because of COVID But Singapore is has been all right to go to and there's just a lot of wilderness in Singapore Yeah You know you go to the airport that jewel tangy airport They have they have like an incredible insight terrarium with waterfalls and then actually in the city there are a couple of hotels that are really sort of nature focused So even though you're in this big city ham has these big terraces and a loon the terraces are full of plants same with the.

lot you look around the world How do you kind of put it all together You said I was going to tell you what you need to know And the first thing is that you need to know is that I am not mad at Nikki 5 days She has been in Anguilla trying restaurants and hotel though So she's there for work Yeah yeah Oh she's there for work So when we put together these lists Nikki has a running a vast database of every new hotel opening major restaurants major tours that are opening up cruise lines So we know everything about going on especially in the luxury field And what makes our list a little different from other lists is that we really do focus on luxury access and luxury places to stay and things to do when you're traveling So take the Amalfi Coast for example We featured this year now The Amalfi Coast hasn't changed a ton in the past few decades There's always been a wonderful place to go But this year in particular there have been a couple of new luxury hotels opening So that's the reason why that would end up on our list this year The other thing that we focus on this year was places that you can go to be together You maybe don't want to go to October 1st Be with thousands of other people but maybe you want to take a family trip and you want to rent out a few tents on a safari and you can go with a big group or maybe you want to go to a hotel that specializes in villa So you can rent a little house for your family Or you go on a drinking trip with your friends to Wales So each of these little places has a little bit of a suggestion on how to spend some time with people or just meet local Well one thing that caught my eye you have places all over the world on this list but I want to start with somewhere that's a little closer to home for a lot of people Boca Raton is a cool place to hang out Has anybody ever seen Seinfeld Come on You don't go to Boca And suddenly cool Boca Raton This is hard for people to believe but Boca Raton and the area So Fort Lauderdale Palm Beach have a bunch of new hotels that are kind of they kind of compete with luxury big luxury resorts elsewhere like bajamar and the Caribbean as Amanda and oriental that's going to open up there in the Boca area And there's some really serious restaurants Major food group which does carbone in New York and Miami They're doing a takeover of an old golf Clubhouse there That's currently called flamingo grill So there's actually like a lot of cool stuff to do there And it's obviously still as beautiful and sunny as it was when you're referenced were there What was the place in Seinfeld Chris Del Boca this that Yes It can eat early I love it I love it I love it What I do like to so much of what's in there 'cause I've been thinking I've never done a safari I would love to do it There's so much great outside stuff Yeah And you know the big thing in safaris now is walking safaris So you think of you think of a safari you get in it Maybe with no cost you go out you try to see the big 5 lions elephants hippos Now in a couple of the places that we feature one is in Zambia and the other is quasi natal in South Africa You walk around And you're on foot So you really it may not seem like it's for everybody and it may not be for me But it's a very incredible way to get up close with some of these animals And particularly some of the walking safari is really focused on birds so it's not as carnivore focused But also these all these safari outlets are really conservation focused.

"And this podcast, we share conversations with travelers about fascinating destinations and memorable experiences around the world. On this episode, we'll be focusing on that sumptuous crest sense of the Italian Riviera, also known as the ligurian coast. Specifically, the eastern half, the Riviera de Levante with rugged cliffs, Turquoise coves, the colorful Cinque Terre, fishing villages, and stylish resorts, such as portofino and Santa margarita ligure. Our guest today is David Downey a distinguished writer who lives on the Italian Riviera from where he's talking with us today. I met David a few years ago in Paris where he also lives. In his new mystery thriller red Riviera, he describes the Italian Riviera as quote that Crescent of coast with Tuscany balanced on one end and the Cote d'azur teetering on the other in France. Welcome, David, so good to speak with you again. Yeah, it's great for equity and to see you. We're going to be talking about your new mystery novel red Riviera later in the episode. But first, tell me there's so many gorgeous areas of Italy for an expat to live in. What made you choose one of Italy's smallest regions, liguria? Chose me. I had some vague family ties to it. My mother was Italian as you may know. And my wife lived in Italy for years as a child and her family bought a house down there and so we kind of moved in at one point because we both loved that region above almost all others in the world. And it's just a fabulous place. Well, agoria was originally home to fishermen and singers, poets, explorers. But it's now been discovered by the tourist world. I wrote about the Amalfi Coast for photos. I know that area very well. It's often compared to that coast that Italian coast down the med a bit. How would you compare the two? Well, the Amalfi Coast is stunning and amazing. I remember walking way back probably 1979 or 80 and being struck by how beautiful it was. It's slightly different in that a lot of the action, if you will on the Amalfi Coast is up above up high, whereas in liguria, you have a lot of villages up high on the hills, but you also have the kind of beach world down on the coast right on the water's edge. And I love the green and food, the Riviera's food. Everybody knows Genoese pesto. The green sauce. And so forth, a lot of people don't know that I've come from there too. Very, very far back in the Middle Ages. And so it's a pretty amazing place for food and stunning scenery and beautiful weather, especially for me off season. We're thinking about that area as sort of spring like most of the time. So it's moderate. I would say. Yeah. Yeah, and the truth is that it became a resort area over a hundred years ago, aristocrats of Europe, especially the Russians and people from the Nordic countries would go down to the Riviera. They wouldn't be there in the summer they'd arrive in October November, December and stay through the winter because it's generally mild. Well, I would think up in the mountains that border that are right above it. It would be very cold. Do you get to know oh yeah, yeah, yeah, lots of snow. Before we get into the delicious details, tell us what you suggest about transportation and lodging in the area for maximum pleasure and time management. The Italian Riviera is 200 miles. And it stretches from Tuscany all the way to France. So if you want to explore both sides, the eastern and the western Riviera, then you logically, you could stay at one end or the other and then move around or you could stay in the middle at Genoa, general as the capital city at the very northern tip of the Mediterranean. And China has lots of nice hotels. And it's a fascinating place to stay. It's very little known by Americans and it's a real discovery, but you have to like the kind of medieval configuration of an Italian city with really tall old stone buildings. Some of them are a thousand years old. And narrow alleyways. And it can kind of stare some people, although it's really a very safe city. On the other hand, they're plenty of places right on the coast, beautiful hotels. You mentioned Santa marguerite, Santa margherita has fabulous hotels, many, many of them. Apollo has wonderful hotels, portofino has one of the finest hotels in Italy, the splendid, but it's an extraordinary place in a convent that's been reconverted. And you will find no lack of wonderful competitions on the Italian media. I can tell you. Yeah, Jenna, of course, was one of the great republics in the 11th century along with Venice. So I know it has tremendous history. And we know it, of course, as the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, when most of us think of Janna, that's what we think of. But I have been there. And I think it has a very vibrant feeling. It's a rough edge, kind of style. It's eclectic. And it's a really great transportation hub. It has a good airport. It has a central train station where you can take trains through all the rest of the area. There's ferries out of there. So it's a good hub. But let's go on to some of the beauty spots. I think everybody first thinks of Cinque Terre. It was discovered a few years ago. And now it's become tremendously popular. Tell us a little bit about it. Are famous for being completely isolated on the coast, but because I don't like to mislead people and because I've written a number of books about the area, I have to tell you that almost every one of the secretary has a train station in it. And it served by ferryboats. And most of them now have little winding roads, granted. It takes you a very long time to drive there, and I would never encourage anyone to drive that. It's a bit of a myth that they're isolated. However, when you approach in a ferryboat and you look at them perched on the coast there, they're sort of the archetypal Italian fishing villages. They also happen to be wine growing villages. That is, they make a lot of cheaper wines, white wine, primarily, almost entirely. And a kind of sweet wine, you drink with almond cookies and so forth called, which is very good. They used to have very important agricultural industry. It was like Machu Picchu growing everything on terraces and fishing industry, the anchovies, salted anchovies of the two quater were famous. There is still one cooperative that makes them and they're very good, but the truth again is that there are fewer and fewer anchovies in the Mediterranean as everybody. You know, because they're very, very popular destinations. These 5 little villages, the hiking is wonderful. The swimming can be wonderful too. Very rocky plan on the sandy beaches of Los Angeles very coves and everything very beautiful in dramatic. That's the word I would choose. Well, it isn't just a collection of villages. It's designated as a national park, which helps protect and preserve the area. And it's a Unesco World Heritage Site. When you see it from the sea, it looks like a rainbow exploded. It's just full of color. It's the archetypal idea of an ancient dishing village. And I remember as a child, I went to this little Italian restaurant and on the wall was a picture of Cinque Terre, one of the villages. That's always what I thought of as Italy. The most beautiful part to me is.

Nobody's giving from the pocket guard just throws When you give it with a good heart and to me in simple words this is the reason why we're successful. I think that's so beautiful. And i really could not agree more. I think the analogy with the candle where you know. You have a lit candle. Somebody else has a candle. That has no fire. You lights their candle with yours and you're not giving away your light. You're expanding it and absolutely so i. I think that's absolutely beautiful. And i love everything that you're doing and i can't wait to see how everything continues with the organization and just i really hope that people do take away that message of kindness and how important that is in just every aspect of our lives and in making the world a better place right right. I would love to switch gears a little bit and ask you just a few of our rapid fire questions for the listeners. To get to know you a little bit more. Okay wonderful well. What is your top wellness tip robbery. I think nurturing good health and relationships is essential everyday. We must thank god and be grateful. Count over blessings for everything that we have. We must do at least a thirty minute morning. Walk with deep breathing. Drink plenty of warm water with lemon. And ginger get a full eight hours of sleep and be happy we must purposely look to do at least one good thing for others every single day of her life and god will keep you healthy. I love that. I think so. Often we don't think about that in terms of our overall health and wellbeing. But i know that i met my happiest when i am doing more for others from my heart and taking that time to really see the good in others too. I think those those are the times. I'm the happiest when. I'm finding fault in everything it's usually you know or if i'm annoyed with a lot of people. Generally that means that. I have a lot personally going on. I think that you know the best times or when we can really see that good. That's true that's true now. This may be a cruel question with the pandemic going on right now. But what would you say. Is your favorite travel destination. Oh i love traveling anywhere. Every i've traveled a lot in europe. But if i had to pick one favorite place it would be florence. Capri and positano is right next to it. The whole amalfi coast is just so beautiful relaxing. It just box so much. Creativity me when i'm in that region i love it. I love it. It's so beautiful out there. And just i mean it's the birthplace of so much art and and beauty and i cannot wait. It's definitely on my list to to go back when things are a little bit safer. But i absolutely love that. Go back together. It sounds great now. If you were an animal animal would you be in. Why animal look. I want to be some sort of a bird. Oh yeah we didn't talk about that. But sunday was great. I mean it's a blowout game but it was good to be back but saturday night. At city field on the twentieth anniversary of nine eleven was a night that i just. I don't think i'll ever forget. Nobody will ever forget nine eleven but but that celebration and remembrance of that night twenty years later was while it was powerful. I that that is the first time in a long time. I've actually cried loudly. You cried. I cried during the pre-game never come now. I'm a pretty easy cry. But i cried during the game and was thankful that i didn't have to say anything for a little while because i was choked up. Wow i gotta see it. I got to see. I didn't i didn't watch the The celebration you know the recap i guess. I didn't see it and it was good. Well i mean. I'm assuming it was the mets and major league baseball but it was so great when they had the first responders come out and then they had x. Met players with each. You know the the firefighters and the police officers and then you hear the stories. And i interviewed a guy who's who lost his brother Firefighter and he walked in his honour raising money from i guess he ended in new york. He went to the pentagon or went. Dc but the pentagon to the field in pennsylvania to Back to the city ground zero. He walked it to raise money for the families that were affected by losing. Somebody a loved one during nine eleven. Wow it was great and the guy was such a normal you know. He was a firefighter. This the the brother who died was his little brother is a family of firefighters. Just kinda it's just the quintessential american family that just and they basically raise their little brother and and he passed away and this guy had five kids. And i know i know i i was in albuquerque. I actually flew on nine eleven. And then i i had a couple days off and i went down the nine eleven new documentary rabbit hole. There's one on netflix. There's one on net history. The history channel did one really incredible docu series and it is just unreal. The one that there's one that michelle told me to to watch it said it's just the best thing she seen. It's called the. She said you need to watch turning point nine. Eleven at war on terror on netflix. Yeah it's great. I watched it. i watched. It's it's it's pretty incredible and then there's another one that really just deals with the day of nine. Eleven and the footage is unbelievable. They've got new audio fresh footage that you've never seen before closed circuit tv stuff. It's it's horrible. I mean it's so tragic and it to relive it again to watch these images just unbelievable we forget. You know it's like you never forget but you sort of do and until it's brought back and it's just fucking believable. What happened on that day. Yeah it's unbelievable until almost like you. You 'cause i'm sure you're like me. I didn't know you back then. But i'm sure you were like me that you i was just mesmerized and i'm sure there were some things that you almost repress remembering because it was just surreal and then feeling vulnerable in your own country and being in large groups it was just a. It's hard to believe. And i think we talked about this the other day we did. Yeah it's hard to believe. That actually was the overriding. Feeling i felt was that. We're all susceptible to something like this happening. And we are. I mean but but you know certain degree yeah well. I'm glad i went. Well i wished. I saw it. "You can always reference the time you know i remember. I'd be jumping on fine still into the stunt team who had prepping something and i was like well if you look at time code. One zero three three on the quick time than that monument day. Oh yeah. I was like well. Let's be on his right hand shoulder trying to describe something like that. Yeah calling a gray scale. We i think we commonly call an antibiotic is the is the other word for you. Do you ever do any antibiotics for your your dialogue scenes or is it is it. Mostly your action. Not so much. Not unless it requires Sometimes it's like well. Where are we actually gonna position. So you've got like access your shooting with some sort of huge aircraft or c. one thirty. It's like well now. I'd like to know how that's gonna look on my lens choice. He relationship because cited say an aircraft the bat style. It's not it's not a simple move to sort of move that around on the die. It's like requires. I'm gonna lose an hour with time so when whenever it involves something sort of big on namic intensive like a cartographic. Then i'll sometimes i'll chip into it for performance stuff but usually it's just just for the action. There's no one way to direct but but from what you've told me it sounds like your little more on the hitch cocky and method in which you do as much planning as you can before you get to set which is a preferred way to do it so that there's any surprises and everybody knows what to do and as we knew cock would notoriously sometimes sleep on his sets because things were so planned out. How many which prepped have for the first movie. And how much did you have for the second movie as well. We we still. We had three months prep in three months shooting and that was the same on by films. Certainly with with the with the action stuff. It's it's all in the prep and certainly think that ninety percent of your job as a director is in the prep. I always feel like by the time. I get to a location in Like in him as watched body guy. We were shooting at this amazing Consul on the water in along the amalfi coast and and of course it's like for mehta fun that consulate looked at twelve other castles and and then on scattered it. You know it's gathered fifteen tons but by the time you walk up there for for the filming. I remember ron got erin. He was like. Oh wow this is amazing. I'm like we don't have time for that. I'm ray saying it's the million swimming. Shoot because the dialogue rausing. Yeah it's it's all in the prep so old print rubbed. What was the budget for. The first movie in the second movie did it. Did it hopefully go up on the second movie. That's a mysterious question isn't it. I'm still trying to work that out with the hollywood accounting that goes on the with the second one was like you know. Obviously everyone's on a bump and you know it's it's the bubble on biz below the line and you know i think what one of these often people sow. What are you actually do. And i'm like i just chase tax breaks around the world. I do in all honesty. That's what i do. The multinational corporations yeah sadly here california. We don't have enough of them. And i hope that they come back one day because see more production in this little place called hollywood or one i was strategy was assignments you know completely dried out for so long. I introduced in new radio. Bite about a year or twelve months down. it's just exploded down there now so it actually works. The question for you in about prep rehearsal is something directors. Go back and forth on a lot in per your comment earlier about how every actor works differently. How was rehearsal on these two films. And what do you like to accomplish in rehearsal if you if you had it before the film's in your pre production stage quite often when especially with the ensemble when there's lots of movie stars involved. It's it's really difficult to schedule. A rehearsal period. So one won't be happening in prep. Is you're having individual compensations with everyone you know in that dialogue is constantly going on certainly With ron and myself you know there's just an open communication channel ever sort of like an an twelve month period. What i like to do is like we'll have sort of an idea of of how i wanna steig it. You know in scattered locations and then all present present that when everyone's finally they you know because trying to align all the schedules. It's like a big game tetris. Dhillon everyone out. You like. Go full movie styles in. Everyone's busy shooting. Every way they movie stars for raising two zero working and so on. But then i like to sort of like will block it through and certainly with the comedy. It's like archive. This is where we just really sort of build that sort of the playground for these actors to work in. And then it's like which is looking for and you want to be open on the diet. Is that like okay. Because a lot of people bring a lot of great on his. It'd be a full not to embrace them so on you know. I think it's great to have a sort of a game plan in your head. About how potentially the saints going to play out and then of course once you get a bunch of creative people together. In the conversation starts pumping it usually.

And i think that you need to do that. the other thing i would do is i would sit down with this list and i would group the keywords. So i've picked this because this is pretty vast. Which is why. I did it this way but what i will tell you is that tuscany is a place of the amalfi coast is a place. Sicily's a place but down here was it. I saw italy honeymoon vacations on this list somewhere or family vacations. Let komo italy's another so. There's a lot of italy on this list but you see this family vacations. That's a type. It doesn't go with cecily. Or so. I would start grouping this whether it's by people whether it be by region whether it be city so i have like items together so i'm gonna take my list and make sure that all my pieces are put together so my list is kind of clustered in groups based on what the theme of the What the theme of that. That keyword is And this case. I have regions of italy trip types and basically when we put the site together we put it together based on trip types which were honeymoons family. Vacations grew travel group. There's a couple more escaping me but we put we put them in the form of what those what those tour types were Because we felt like that was the more important thing than the city so although i have really good rankings on tuscany and florence i don't know that those keywords are gonna sell sell me indication anywhere and all of this.

"Long weekend. We're going to be considered the better days. Is that still the case? It's still the case. Indeed, yes, Sunday will be in the upper thirties with a mix of sun and clouds. And on Monday, Martin Luther King Day, well, partly sunny skies and temperatures again in the upper thirties in the lower forties. All right. Now that you know, the obvious question is because that you mentioned something yesterday. We've been in a decent pattern of being slightly above normal in temperature, which no one is complaining about. But you had said, you know, Looking forward. There's the possibility of some changes Anything new in the past 24 hours. No still expecting some areas of rain and snow showers tonight into Saturday, and the temperature's through Thursday of next week will continue to beat on the tepid side. Tepid T e P i D tepid. Okay to Masa. To Moscow. P, uh, step inside. But you had mentioned that something was showing up in the models. That's what I was getting at. Well, there was a change to perhaps colder than normal for the third the last week of January, but not much. Okay. Good. All right. That Zaveri vory good. I'm not liking your short answers today. I mean, you're responding to me was okay. Yes. No. OK. Yep. You know where? Where is the vigor of police hole? Smaller, small preserve. All I have a tickle in my throat this morning. I don't know why it's got nothing to do with co but I just have a tickle in my throat. Secondly, you know, One day it's you're not letting me talk enough that that's your complaint. And then today, it's I'm giving short answers. You've got play all the time in the world and complaining. I'm beginning to think I can't make you happy. No, you plan You know you can't you? You absolutely should not. Don't talk like that. Because that is a man If I win the lottery tonight, that don't know. Yeah, And then you know what? You're gonna have to find someone else. Someone to take my place. So you wouldn't continued it. You wouldn't continue to help me out here. Well, actually, I would continue to help you out. But the time frame would be way off. If I win the lottery tonight, I'm gonna be living on the Amalfi coast of Italy and I would be more than happy to do this segment, but it will be like one o'clock in the afternoon for Yeah, but that's all right, because it would be well, actually, I can tell you what time it is on the Amalfi Coast Because I do have that in my app on my phone, You know, for Internet from my world clock. It's one of the places. Uh, actually you're absolutely right. It Z 12:47 p.m. on the Amalfi Coast right now, which is great. Well, you would be you would be maybe Having some lemon cello, maybe some fresh fish and you and you could do the segment. But I'll tell you, I'd like to do the show remotely from the Amalfi Coast, but Sure it's not working out right now. But I want to forecast the weather today. Anywhere in the world. You know how to do it. You know you don't have to be at the location like right now I'm not in Worcester or as some people say, whisker or some people say Worchester. I love it when I hear that Worchester from those individuals from Oklahoma and Texas. Oh, you work for a radio station and Worchester, Dorchester. It's near glycerin, Esther. Well, Well, you get it with, like, you know, like, uh, all the communities Rhode Island, Massachusetts. You know a lot of our Indian names, but just the way we pronounce things. Yeah, you can tell somebody's out from outside of the area. You know what the reason I brought all this up was before when you were saying I can't make you happy. You know that's an act because I want you to put that aside out of all the people I know you are probably one of the most optimistic And one of the most easy going and happiest. Seriously. You are you this part is you know you you playing around? Uh um I find you to be quite optimistic and and quite even killed. Seriously. But you're a little your little as we would say pots in Italian in the head, your little pots, but that You know you're very up. Wow. Muscle. Be the nut case. Yeah, They called me that. And then Gravina and Italy myself be. Yeah. I mean, I'm sure when they want to speak English, but for the most part, they call you pots but anyway,.

The Insider's Amalfi

"When you dream of a change of scenery I'll bet it looks a lot like the Mafia coast of Italy. It's famous for the scent of lemon trees and breathtaking ocean views from a white-knuckle highway high above the jagged slopes of the soren team peninsula end long grew up in small town Illinois fell in love with an Italian from Sorrento and she's made that area her home since she joins us an insider's view for exploring the Amalfi area and nearby without being at the mercy of an endless crowd. Fellow sightseers and welcome. Thank you very much. I'm glad to be here rick. Now and you live in the Mafia coast. Yes have you noticed How does it deal with congestion? I mean everybody's wild about the mafia cost. Everyone wants to see it. It's one of the main things that when you coming down to my area. POMPEII and the Alfie Coaster. Too Big stops while you know when I think about it of all the places I could stay with a tour group Sorrento. You could spend a lot of nights there I think because from that home base you can see Capri you can see leave. You can see POMPEII and of course you can make that excursion done the Amalfi coast tight. Everybody wants to go to the famous places on the Amalfi the town of a Mafia Pussy Tano Rebelo but there must be another dimension because even parking your car is like impossible in a multi. It's become impossible. It really has become impossible on those seems to be the cities that are more advertised to the American market. That they're familiar with the name. But there's so many places between those cities and passed. I following the same drive and you're even extending it even as far as Salerno so there is that drive. It's the coastal highway one. Oh One kinda that's exactly right. It is a narrow road with a lot of buses. I remember they had a situation. What was the deal? One day everybody will go north and the other day everybody go south or what is that. They they tried with smaller buses. This is that now. You can't go with anything longer than a certain things so that they could pass correctly then the guy to the alternative license plates then they got to the permits that you'd you'd have to apply for a permit and now it's one way can go down but they have to come back a different way. They can't come back the same way. Oh I didn't know that okay so it is north to south and then you can go back inland top and come back on the tollway from Salerno. Okay this is travel with Rick Steves. We're talking with Enron. We're talking about out for adopted neighborhood. The mafi coast. Why is there so much intrigue about the Amalfi Coast? What is it about it that brings all the people are so they're they're very very well advertised for fashion for food for the Liebmann cello for pottery and just the spectacular very high end restaurants and hotels when he puts a ton of it was like made for jeters just a gorgeous tiny little Kabul town? But it's got all these design shops and the yachts on the ads that that are outside of Posey. Tommy you gotta get to know somebody down at the port so that you know who's in town. Oh my goodness so as just part of the rabble who does never yacht you can be stuck stuck outside the town wondering why can't get it in. So where where would you go. That's not one of the famous places so of course it. You certainly want to see the whole Amalfi coast but once you get to Amalfi Oh fi you can whether you you're driving you continue on or if you take the public bus you just swap and you can go further on me. Noti and my Odi are called minor in major ager. Those are beach communities that are very well known with Italians but not so much with the foreigners and my experience in Minori is that there are a lot of big simple simple hotels that have affordable room very likely to have his body. Yeah a little bit cheaper. Prices minority am I am or I and then the sister city Meharry Meharry M. A. I. O. R. is that literally major and minor yes named after the branches of a river and then from there. You've got access to a Nice beach very nice beach sir. My odious major is the largest beach flat beach much better than Posey. Tanno much better than a mouth. Isn't that ironic. Cheaper people go go to the beach and they go to Positano and they don't get nice pay three times. The amount and I would think minorities just half an hour away from some of these other. Famous prices exactly act on a public bus. A public bus and the bus would come by every Roman history. There are women remains in that town of minority as well. So it's not just that you go there for a beach you can have a walk around and have a look at the history now. There's a very popular walk that goes from up in the hills in Rabelo down to Amalfi the town It's it's just dramatic. Walk talk a little bit about the hikes possible in the mall. Fico straight we have a again they sell hiking maps that take you all either horizontally right across the mountain or up and down and of course our most famous one is the pathway of the gods that starts up above mouthy heads in finishes above Posey channel. So you've got the sea in front of you the whole time while you're walking for the kind of Hecker that likes to have gravity be on your side. You can take a bus or taxi up to the tonight you start at the top and then working down and then work your way
