"David is up next as we continue on a Friday afternoon hello, David. Hello, David. Are you there? Hello. Yeah, go right ahead. You are on the you are on the air. How are you doing today? I hope you're doing great, brother. Thank you. I just wanted to kind of I got a couple of questions for you. And then a comment. If this weren't Alabama and one of the top teams in the country would already know these coverage that is getting. So you're basically saying if this had been. At some small school, would it be getting a lot of coverage, the answer is no. Of course not. Okay. And I'm seeing this a whole lot more, especially in instances where is someone who's out in the sports sports person movie star or whatever? We used to live in a country where it was innocent to proven guilty and now it seems like it's guilty to prove the news. Well, David, you know, I understand what you're saying, but what we're talking. Yeah, I mean, we're talking about somebody who was on the periphery of a capital crime. And he's not been charged so the presumption of innocence really isn't necessarily germane to him, but we don't you're right. We don't think like that anymore. I'm not sure we ever did, by the way. Right, right. And my last comment. Everybody's talking about the university should have done this. The university should have done that in any murder or any kind of crime investigation. If a policeman goes to a press conference and the media asked questions, then the response is, well, you know, it's an ongoing investigation. We can't respond to that. How do we know that the authorities didn't tell the university to do that? Well, we don't, we don't know any of that. And I don't think anybody's suggesting the university haven't talked about it. I think what we're suggesting is that the university took would take action upon learning the two of its players were involved with another one. Let's keep miles here was on the team that weekend. We act like he has nothing to do with the team. NATO has had on that Saturday morning, even though he was out for the season or injured. NATO said three players that were involved in this event somehow some way either by either directly or indirectly. We weren't asking the university to make a public dissertation. We were simply asking, what we're simply suggesting is that they looked into it immediately and usually when you look into something, you withhold the player until it's cleared up, then we would not be, I think, going down the road, we're going down right now. They wouldn't have had to say anything. Nobody ever talks about something like this publicly, but there are ways of getting around that. Hey, thank you for the call. Do appreciate it. Dustin is in Tulsa. You're on the air. Hey, Paul, how are you today, brother? Okay. Well, listen, you seem like you had kind of a rough week, so I'll change it up a little bit here. I actually need a little advice from you. Would you be willing to give me some advice for me kind of your years of experience and whatnot? Yeah, I think I'll give it my best shot, Justin. Go ahead. Okay. Well, as you know, I've been dating AJ sister. And Dustin, Dustin, you don't need to go any farther than that. Are you ready? Are you anywhere near the Tulsa airport right now? Yeah, actually, I am coming. You're the Tulsa airport. I would go to it immediately and grab the first plane, it doesn't matter whether it's going to Laredo or LA and just get on it and never come back. Well, I think that may be the route I end up going because it took her to red lobster again the other night because she loved those Cheddar biscuits and she just currently she'd been listening to the show and she heard what I said about her brother forever basically called him a disrespectful bum and she pressed on me to apologize and I wouldn't do it. And we got into an argument right there. She walked out right in the middle of the admiral's feast. I've never seen her leave a popcorn shrimp on the plate. Paul, she walked out right in the middle of it. I can't believe that. She won't miss the red lobster. What was your favorite thing at the red lobster Randy? Yeah. Those Cheddar biscuits were good. I liked it. I like to shrimp. Yeah. So basically, that's the way they remember the way they salted the baked potato too. Man, do I miss the red lobster? Come on out. I don't know, I don't know where is your red lobster anywhere near here, Randy? Yeah, we don't have a red lobster. Well, what I need is either you to help me get back in her good graces with maybe a gift certificate or something. No, no. Dustin, or how long have you been dating misses AJ's sister? Oh, few weeks. It's not super Dustin. Let it go. You don't know what it's like to be single out here. All I need to do Laura Rutledge or Alyssa Lang, do they have any sisters or anything? I mean, cousins, distant relations. I don't know either one of them that well. You've been a trooper this week, man. And I just wanted to try to add a little levity to it. I hope I did. You've done a hell of a good job with a really hard lineup of calls over and over and over. And it's been been really informative and I think you've done probably the best work on it. So thank you very much. You guys appreciate it. You take care of yourself. Mark is up next. So hello, mark. Hey, Paul, how are you doing today? We're here doing great. Thank you. I wanted to bring something to the table that may be somewhat controversial. I hope you'll let me finish, but I've not heard anybody address this. And it's concerning the Alabama basketball situation. I've been season ticket holder for Alabama football for basketball for baseball. Got 2° from university and it's just simply heartbreaking to see this right now. But let me say this. My question would be why would say 23 year old mother with a child of 5 years old out on the street up at 2 a.m.? Very succinctly. Because she wanted to be. Okay, that's fine. And I think questioning why a woman I'm not blaming her. Trust me. She has that right. And I have scholarships. Myself, and put myself in vulnerable situations. But I want to just say to parents and grandparents and young people, don't put yourselves in those vulnerable situations. I've done it myself. I'm not blaming her. Well, but listen, Mark, I don't know. We'll find out more in this case goes to trial, but there was another man she was with, apparently. Right, right. I think she, again, I'm going to be quiet here because I will stick my foot in my mouth even more than I've already done today. We'll take a short break back

"Just do something for now But anyway i wanted to make that comment The other thing i wanted your opinion on is as far as lsu goes how much of this off season allegations of sexual harassment. That all that. How much do you think that's affecting program right now. I don't think the field issues are affecting one iota because it really has not been in the news for some time. Now could it take a toll at some point. Yes but i i think these are all i think we if there are issues and i don't think we really know yet for sure it certainly looks like there's some coaching issues Their internal This is not a constant drumbeat where it's in the news. Every day and coaches can't put on the local news without seeing it. I mean this story has not really been in the news for a couple of months. So i won't go there i i and i don't think the disruptions mattered either. This week with a with a hurricane we had to the two lane coach on yesterday. He said it helped them. being You know in one place away from the eye of the storm and they nearly beat oklahoma. Okay i appreciate your commentary. Keep up the good work. Thanks for having me. Thank you very much calling. We appreciate it as well. We have a lot to do remaining. We have coach mark stoops. On in a moment we will also take your phone calls their final hour at eight five two four two seven. Two eight five we Continue to watch the big twelve. "At out of pocket and We'll talk to the ladies who will be hosting tonight andrea annalisa and thanks so much for being right before we get out of pocket. I want to start with you andrea you. We talked to you. Friday or on the field for the game and there were some there. Were some challenges there for hanes king and his first start. How did you see the game from the sideline. Well you know you said challenges and hanes king. I was impressed by his composure. He threw a couple of interceptions came to the sidelines. His are fist bumping am. I mean they still had a lot of confidence in him and he never looked flustered. I mean i was right. You know walking right behind him and He never looked flustered. And so i really thought that was huge Also when he made some of those big plays his teammates were so excited he scrambled one time out of the pocket and was running and everybody on the sidelines. Was like that's our guy that's our guy so the excitement about hanes king and the composer that he showed also paul. He's got a lot of skill guys around him. Isaiah spillers devante chain. Had that big run. They've got some. They've got some talent. And i think they all really really support hanes came in. Obviously you saw the. We'll let us show on the sidelines in lexington. We're about to talk to coach stoops. what was the. What was it like being there. And what are your impressions of kentucky. Yeah paul it was sort of an out of body experience at times because we're standing on the sidelines and were keeping up with the amount of passing yardage kentucky's adding and adding and adding a we're in the three hundred and then we're in the four hundreds and i'm looking down like I'm in lexington ray. Like i'm in lexington kentucky and they're throwing for over four hundred yards so it was very exciting for fans. I will say what. I'm more looking forward to coming up this weekend. Having seen kentucky week one they're taking on missouri this coming weekend and liam cohen went into this game telling us that they really only had eighty eighty five percent of the offense installed so we didn't even really see most of what kentucky's going to show throughout the season this year. We got a little taste of it and that little taste went really well against you obviously in similar to what you said about am. You've got one del robinson. You've got josh ali. You've got a stable of running backs in kentucky that really makes them an offensive threatens gonna give them the opportunity to potentially pose a threat to the sec east here in just a couple of dates. Exactly let me Before you guys get ready for your show. What is What's on deck tonight in an hour and thirteen minutes with kentucky. I spent some time with kentucky. I know laying spend a lot of time with them as well. But i spent some time with chris rodriquez and the running backs there and had a lot of fun kentucky. So we talk that we got some hyper. Nah hyper naza big thing. I don't know if you've seen it. We'll yeah some hot takes. Paul will have to join us also. Shane beamers going to join the show. So we're gonna find out some things about shane. And of course give our picks for week two. It's going to be a good time. Paul we will all be watching. Thank you so much and we will talk to you very soon. Probably friday Great to have you on baseball. Can't wait dray said about hanes. King is interesting. I think sometimes we look at the stat line and draw conclusions but she had a different perspective. Let's get back to the calls here at eight five five two four two seven. Two eight five in. Brian is up next. Hey how's it going. Brian thank you. Hey you know earlier today. Heard people bring up auburn an awful lot for claiming that they really don't aren't worried about him Seems like there's a couple of people have an auburn complex. I think auburn is a mystery right now and i think the mystery. Oh we'll have a few more clues not this week but the week after I'm really eager to see that. Penn state game and accounts what they did A week ago was really good. Well you know i. I don't have anything to gauge it on yet. But this just seems really familiar to me. Gene chizik first year and then Nobody gave him a chance. even recalled. Somebody saying that album was going to be alabama's little sister. Gus was hired and everybody was trashing auburn in in They turn around and everybody in the mouth and I just think that the georgia fans in alabama fans need to realize come into our house this year and it may not be well I'll make sure coach saving and gets that message. Thank you for the call will is in colorado springs. You're on the air. Hello will time listener. First-time caller wonderful. If i wanna make one statement. And then i want your opinion on something else So a couple of weeks ago you other caller call in and basically i agree with the gentleman. He said that this coalition or conglomeration. Or whatever you wanna call this pac twelve. Acc big ten thing was kind of a half hearted effort to do something in response to oklahoma and texas. Going to sec sec as a football entity only getting much stronger. I agree with him in that regard. But i would ask someone. What else could could these conferences do. And comes the punch line and i'm gonna make enemies but you know. Those conferences maintain some degree of academic standards. And the fcc is not known for its academics. Let's be honest here T to validate my point. Acertain certain extent. Or at least to show that i don't get much of an argument traveled around the country a lot. I have quite a few. Sec for the lsu auburn fans alabama fans. And when i bring that up academic wise that aspect. I'll get well. Hey we're talking football or we're talking the playing field in the classroom. So in that regard. I don't see much more that those conferences can do. I agree was half hearted effort and no one really knows what their intentions. I think they kinda jumped into it. And it's like the government figure it out later..

"Movement can even bring us together when we're still because if we're focused on the next move we don't have to worry about what's behind us goodyear more driven and we welcome back there. Multiple reports at this hour coming out of athens concerning the health of jt daniels After the brutal game against clemson several media outlets are reporting that he is dealing with a core injury likely ribs or oblique and his status on certain the backup according to the same reports carson beck up a large portion of the first team reps yesterday. We'll continue to watch that story as we get closer to the weekend. Let's continue with more of your phone calls here in. Augie is up next good afternoon. I was impressed with that guy from florida to like he was making the closing argument. Prosecuting the guy who killed his dog eating. Come up a breath and He didn't stutter either. So i mean i i will tell you. I don't wanna call myself a professional broadcaster because that would be an exaggeration. But you could give me that script. And there's no way. I could get three lines into without stumbling. I i that takes. I don't know what it takes your lawyer. You tell me. Yeah i i. I don't think the guy was reading from a script you might have had. Maybe at most bullet points. But you could tell he was fired up about it which brings me to another point so call you in bob. Dole's the were aac buddies he would call into the show. And you actually had him on more than you would or saw combined which i don't blame you on israel because you need subtitles and even if you had him you couldn't understand what he was trying to say but did you and both the divorce when he started putting out his simpson desist when south. Yeah i was it. I mean he. He violated my trust are. Espn of what did the guy say. Torture is interference. Schwarzer's jeremy ceremony early. Yeah most with somebody deal. Try to impose churches interference on i. I love. I've always liked by bowls for this reason. He's a shoot from the hip guy when he's been here and unfortunately that doesn't work when you're in big time high level conversations like he was a few weeks ago. Well it's kind of funny because you have the big dog. Basically battling the pac twelve and big ten and acc but then you have the smaller little brothers who are now. Fight themselves arrest. Go and bowls be so it's kinda like a cartoon and i'm sure the rest has no love loss or those be now that he's poaching smell a houston. Se's ucs of course tensely and there was another as we're sitting here. Ucf is now according to reports applied for membership. All and yeah. We had to rescue on last week. And he i mean he was. He was steamed Primarily because he knew what was coming. Well you know at this rate the big twelve oh offer to lane. I've got crop degrees because absolutely played a hell of a game in Very impressed with that guy. Not saying wanting to coaches Hell he's better than what we got. Although i think we can get something better which brings me to that. Spec- blue comment. I say paul that game between lsu and ucla. In my opinion the best looking uniforms in college football i think. Ucla got that baby. Blue top is the best. Not saying i was good. But i think he had the best looking uniform combinations in the field that night and i also want to add i think it was daryl from georgia was talking about all the recent National championships georgia got. You left out the most recent of all and you know what that is right. No question you would to admit. I forgot about that. I'm working. i'm actually. I'm usually more up to date on the equestrian championships. Only reason i knew about it is because you had little ads running In between your show during the summer. But the question. I know is Bruce springsteen daughter. I don't even know her. Yes she was in the olympics. Did not as she won. Silver medal paul. You're in the food. They had any kind of rain on you to do the guy who have any rains rain. Yeah very can pull you back from the edge because you went over the edge today you know where it was do not so you alienating people in nebraska you've alienated people in each off and now you know the other state just added hiwa. You will call there you go talk to. It was just a corn crack. I don't know. I've only been to iowa once. I think i've been there twice. I have been there twice. And the only thing i've ever seen there is corn. You know does. There's gotta be something a big ball twine or something else. Purdue they produce Rice or i know they produce corn. They produce all. I think of when i think of iowa. Think of the music man with is another Another slight and the people of iowa some guys fell in a dysfunctional presidential. Primary was the claim to fame every four years. Before i got. I just wanted to have a shoutout to spring squirrel who offer to bring me supplies and gasoline. Well yeah he sure did. And i believe he would've done it. I didn't want to take him up on it but Hey we have just looked up. This is according to the iowa farmers and ranchers association I should have known this Because my visits there. I saw some of these two Iowa is the biggest producer biggest exporter of of soybeans around so they produced hog. Ceo soybeans is number one pork is number two and then they earn is number three paul. You're making people who see this so they want to take that crack back. I shouldn't have. I should've been so i. I wasn't insulting spinning simply. Spitting the truth. Okay now you have to work in nebraska and utah. Hey thanks no. I'm not. I'm not ever going to nebraska again All i said was. We're talking about the iowa. I always stay game. And i said of iowa state wins. I hope that means corn prices. Don't go up. That was not a shot that was just a consumer concerned about the cpi. We're coming right.

"I believe than ten to fifteen million dollars a year for their meteorites substantially below. Sec sixty million the big ten fifty to sixty million and the acc thirty million again. They're not gonna be a player. let them die. Which brings me to my second point. Acc commissioner jim phillips blind to the obvious listen up. The acc is not better than the big twelve by much. You have one good football team in that conference and nothing else. The acc has fifteen teams and notre dame doesn't want anything to do with you. What kind of a conference would continue to remain with fifteen teams. Well hoping and praying that the irish change their minds and have a change of heart. It's not gonna happen. Move on already. You have an obvious choice in front of you. Commissioner you need to add. Ucf university of central florida ucf. Yes and you should consider cincinnati to ucf in my backyard in orlando. Florida has seventy thousand students on campus. The second largest university in the united states their football program. It's been solid for a while. Now it's going to get even better under gus. Malzahn orlando is the seventeenth largest tv market in this country. There's no professional sports team here to compete with them. Either in cincinnati would be helpful to the acc as well because they're better than majority of those teams in the acc. We are short on time. I want to compliment. You never heard a caller door show go on for six minutes without a breath in without an offer or a missed punctuation mark. I mean that that was absolutely brilliant. i i was impressed I'd love to be able to talk like that. Blame is up. I just have one question for all sports fans, you know. Sure who? Who has any reason to believe that the Bucks are gonna win? Jonas had his best game of his career. They still lost. Yeah. Like Who's garden, Devin Booker. Nobody on the buck. Have a feeling Daniels, the Sun's fan, Can you confirm or deny this, Daniel? We have to have a big time done guy. Yeah. Yeah, I think I love wrong Passion, but do the sun's shoot as well as they did in those first two games at home Now that they're in Milwaukee, I I don't think that the Bucks win the series. But do I think the books can beat The sun's in a game. I do think they could You played this game drought. Um you played in the Southeastern Conference on a college level at one of the best programs in the country at Tennessee. How big of a factor is the game being back in Milwaukee? It's It's huge when you are on a roll and you're getting momentum and the fans get into it, and it's loud and they're cheering for you and they're pulling for. You know the opponents, they say, Oh, yeah, we just pretend they're cheering for us, or we use that energy for us. But it is different when you know that the fans are there for you and they are pulling for you. So I think the game being at home is huge. Now. The biggest thing is also when you get down, right, say the Sun's gonna run The fans still have to continue pulling for Milwaukee Quiet arena when things don't go the bucks way. If things don't go the bucks way, and the arena gets quiet that one. That's when it becomes a non factor because then the sons are like, Oh, yeah, they're silent in here. They're silent. We've got it. Let's go, and they kind of pulled together like it's just us that Chris Paul talks about. It's just them being on the road. So the fans they've got to stay loud, no matter what happens for the books and speaking of scoring, I know he talked about that for a moment. A stat here from Game to Yannis finished With 30 points in the second half on 83% shooting the first player over the last 25 seasons to score 30 points on 80% shooting and a half of a finals game. So if that's your honest just now heating up, and they're going back to Milwaukee backs against the wall, they don't want to go down 30 with a Game four on the line. I think tonight is the most interesting matchup that we have seen so far, because if this Milwaukee team shows up and shows out, we may go to seven games. Andrea, you and I have talked so much about wanting this series to go to seven. I mean, like forest Cool. The team is so dominant. You want too sweet, but it's the NBA Freaking finals. We want seven games, right? I want as much basketball as possible because, like I said, basketball in the NBA Finals, they are just The absolute best. There really is no debate, and I think we have someone if I could bring in Mr A. J from the Bronx. Is there a wrong opinion that you want to throw out here? As far as sports other than basketball? Maybe being better? I mean, are you guys doing? Um well, Basketball is okay. Basketball..

"That was in two thousand seventeen course. That sounds like jimbo fisher. Yeah hey thanks for the call. Apparently you bet greg call. My guess is a jimbo. Had a long evening that night in atlanta until the final play we are heading to a bright appreciate you being a part of the show we are back for thirty more minutes stick around. You're listening to the paul. Finebaum show podcast. You're back and we got twenty five minutes ago. And james is up next hell james off. Hello hey good afternoon. Hello james patterson how you doing james. It's a pleasure. Thank you for calling. Yeah i'm from hall gioja how you doing. I'm doing we're we're we're is that s Rondo no south carolina on. I'm a twenty seven miles from clubs again diversity and forty two miles for matthews gioja where you are. That's a good spot. yeah. I'm a georgia booed off fan and i've seen were Next saving got his station today. Yeah he he needed that. He was down on his luck. Well i don't think he was. Donald is look. I think he decided to do it. Because the man's got all the money in the world. You'll sayin' so why she keep your carry on. I say he's the he's doing it to be the best of all times. and he public do that alabama. What do you think that james. I think he. He's already the best of all time. I'm not sure that's that's really a debate any longer. Well as you know with the thing about it is. He wants to secure his position. Well but when james let let me let me make this argument to you. If he retired today he would he would retire having won three out of the last six. He's won seven national championships. The only way that i think he could he could even put a dent in his legacy if he coached his last five years. We're we're not very good right now. The i mean what else does he have to prove well as nothing he got to prove. That's what i'm saying. Why care on when you save me years. Oh well let me ask you james. I will tell you. They think that. I l else. Does he got the right right. Bellizzi four well. Let's he wants to make it impossible to beat his record ever well. I think that's one on getting okay. Let me answer. i'll try to answer it. I can't think all i kim because i agree. Most people reach a certain age. But but not everyone i mean. The president of the united states is seventy eight. He didn't have to do that but he wanted to because he felt like he could win. The previous president was seventy four. We're talking about all. Presidents have been sold well well. Obama was pretty young all jfk with no but forty two. yeah when he was elected and We we have some young presidents. but what i'm getting ahead is. The fact of the matter is oh buyer bryant. Had to record he broke the record as trying to make it impossible for anybody to break his record. James james are you retired or are you still working. I'm retired okay I'm curious about this. And maybe nick sabin is to. At what age did you retire and did you enjoy. Have you enjoyed retirement. No i have not healthy life. Aubin data was stuff. I didn't. I didn't mean to maui roy. I know i know listen. I know who say that. Nick saving for his age. My dad's is passed away a year ago. He was seventy four years old. Nick sam the years old. He's still in good shape and he still looks at us. Did fi six years ago. he does what. That's not what i'm getting james. Would you allow me to say one. Let me let me say one thing here. And i appreciate you calling. But i've talked to many coaches who retired maybe under more questionable circumstances in in every time they all tell me the same thing they don't know what to do with themselves because they are so used to all that being around them and saving has said this. He's not shy about it. He said he has said repeatedly that this is always ever done. He's been associated with the team. I think he's concerned that if he quit today he wouldn't really know what to do now. That sounds silly because if you quit today he could make millions of dollars doing whatever he wants to do. And probably make even more money in private enterprise but this is what he loves doing and this is why. I think he wants to keep doing it. You know. I think all of us had been at that moment. Not all of us. Some of us When you give up something that you truly love and you're you know even though he we you say well. I don't need that anymore We find out often that we do. Thanks for the call for she it. Let's continue with mike who is in los angeles. Hello mike thanks good afternoon afternoon. paul afternoon. i wanted to know. Clearly jeremy pruitt and the offense it never click didn't matter who was under center and so we watched Tennessee lose a lot of games The defense or just get tired eventually. Fold my question is do you think it'll be more fun watching hypo with. Hopefully a more potent offense is that a more palatable way to lose at least putting points on the board mike. It's already more fun because they're you know you mean jeremy pruitt though he had a good reputation as as a coach and as an evaluator. He never really. I never felt like he made. He made the job fun. I think hypo is selling hope. He's selling hope that he's going to bring in an exciting offense. And i think the offense will be very exciting. Frankly think that this team because the schedule is not that challenging you know can win six games more and get to a bowl game. Which would be pretty cool. Yeah that's pretty much. I mean vegas last year. Had the over under five point five in clear fairly we woefully under perform but this year i think vegas has it at around six games the over under and i don't know there's.

"Sabin seemed to indicate in a statement today that that would be for him although. Don't hold them to it. He'll he'll be a young seventy seven. Let's get back to the calls right now. Mr paj in tuscaloosa. Good afternoon to you. Hey paul how you doing this low girl. Communications buddy from birmingham. Great to have you back. Thank you appreciate it I've heard you say james spans name and that's amazing. That's one of the few people. I was going to mention celebrity. That i've been around and dome that between you and him and nick sabin. You haven't changed at all since. I've known you Well we're talking about james panel and everybody in alabama's he's the preeminent in meteorologist and has been that way for cincinnati. He got out of the university but Any someone that I don't know anyone in the media in that state. That's more respected than him. There is not. there's not one. I've known him since he was the wtc radio in tuscaloosa. So i mean. I've known him forever. So coach saving. I was going to say You know there's a inner circle built around coach saving. You know that's in my second life. After communications with alabama. I've been fortunate enough to be in that inner circle and there is a that's somewhat of a you become part of the process and i seen him since he's the beginning. I've been here. The very beginning with him. He has changed at all is except that. The he's gotten more lenient things than he was in the beginning. He was pretty set in his ways. The first few years any kind of let things change. We changed the way we did some things in where they And that that was kind of odd just couldn't believe it the the one thing that finally shows that he really is coming of age as he finally got rid of that stupid old whiteboard that he had me put up at the big. I couldn't believe he had put that thing up year after year after year with a schedule on it when they have laminated schedules but he finally said okay. Let's get rid of that. I couldn't believe it but he he's you know he's pretty. Let me ask you this. I certainly respect Your relationship but for those who don't know him and that would include almost everyone watching and listening. What what can you tell us. that maybe We would be a little bit surprised by me. We we know how process-oriented he is. But what's he like to be around. He is pretty much businessman all the way you can. I got to know him at the very beginning. I i made friends with him when he first went over there to speak the first time as a conference center and they did not tell him that afterwards he was going to give autographs and that was not the thing to do and so he asked me to set up something for him and i did and i got people in and out real quick and we became friends after that friends in that he knew depend on me when he was over there. But he's he's very quick with you. Don't waste time with him. The only way you could mess him. And i didn't say this but if you ever want to get on his good side and grew get to really talk to him a little bit. Ask him about his grandchildren. That changes his whole complexion. I don't care what you're talking about. That changes what he thinks. But you know over the years. I've gotten where i it's gotten less than less. I'm able to talk to him. He comes in with a cell phone in each year. Cedric behind him or in front of him he usually and he's he's all business. I'll go in and ask him and he will let me know if there's something he doesn't like trust me he get the pointing finger. I know that means something's not right. So but he's really a very pleasant person. believe it or not but there is a inner circle. That's built around him. And that's why you don't hear other coaches talk about when we were at alabama. I did this or i did that are we. Did they don't say that but nobody knows what. The entire process is but him. I'm part of the process. But i don't know what the whole rest of it is so when i was there. That's that's the way you have to know that you're part of the process. You're part of the inner circle you do your job and you'll be fine but there's only person that knows all the jobs is him and that's the way it kinda works and that's and i told you probably more than ever told you but that's that's the way it works and i know that the one time the two people that i the most that has been around the longest cedric. Because that's the person everybody says. Who's that guy following kosher around that cedric. And you know. I know you do. And jeff allen. Who is the team position. And i was standing outside one time with them after the latest change. I think in coaches and they had to make sure who's supposed to come in. Who's not i said. Okay guys we're gonna be alright this year and both of them turned around same time and look important right coach. Saving the said as long as that man's here we were about anything. So that's the way they feel about it and that's the way it seems to have worked and they don't seem to don't seem to miss a beat but i know who you were talking about also when you say you need to stop. I'm not gonna say a friend of a friend or coach hit me up. Not now after i said and they said please don't mention that name it will be the end of it and would not easy to say. But that's you know they're not you know. Know i mean everyone. I mean the thing that struck me about nick. Saban is that whenever he talks to someone. There's a message behind it. He doesn't he. You know a lot of us. Should we like to shoot the breeze. He's not a share. he makes he. You may think he's shooting the breeze but He he's got there's a method to the madness there certainly is. He doesn't he doesn't waste much time he's pretty much got everything regimented so You know that. That's that's what i say back. And that's another thing. When i l think outs.

"Cried passion than pageantry of college. Football leaves here. The paul finebaum. Show our four podcast. We have another hour to go. And everybody i know is eager to flip the channel in an hour and watch alabama hope to get to the finals of the women's world series and we are heading out there right now are this alang has been covering it. All and And fortunately eliza been watching the oklahoma game as you as you obviously are. It looks like the weather's pretty good which has not been the case could afternoon and set the scene for us. Thanks paul just don't jinx the weather because we have been struggling with that for the last couple of days but today has been beautiful as you said so far and it looks like oklahoma's gonna end up getting this win over j. m. you and the i if necessary semifinal of this monday of course the schedule was pushed back a little bit. So we will see florida state in alabama. Play in about an hour so here in oklahoma city mattie shipment has been here with me all week throughout the sec tournament throughout this entire tournament in the postseason and this is an alabama team that has been so so dominant especially when you look at the postseason. I think tied fans were a little surprised that yesterday when the way that it did in them. Falling to the florida state seminoles but one of the bigger stories of that game was the fact that head coach. Patrick murphy started lexi kilfoyle which we talked a lot going into this game. Mattie about it not having been that much of a surprise. Florida state had played really late the night before you think you throw kilfoyle but they ended up kind of needing that little bit of momentum that we expect them to get with fouts tonight. I absolutely think that they're going to be a completely different team out there tonight. And i really wasn't surprised that we saw lexi kilfoyle she. Somebody that has battled some injuries throughout the regular season. But she had a really good outing against alabama state in their regional and then had another really good outing against kentucky in the super regional. So when you're in the winners bracket you have the opportunities to put some other pitchers out there in a circle. And i think exa- that's exactly what coach patrick murphy we talk about. How much of a grind. This tournament is and with the schedule. Getting moved back a little bit. Florida state and alabama both got an extra night of rest. We saw jam. You come out literally with a bang. First-pitch home run against oklahoma. What do you expect from a rest standpoint for both these schools. But i think it's gonna make a huge difference because you remember that. Florida state was one of the teams that was playing late into the morning to get that win but it didn't really seem to affect them at all. I think there's something to be said for momentum getting it on your side. Getting into that rhythm. I'm but i know that. Florida state team is definitely rested up. They've got a really good pitching staff in the circle between catherine sandercock and kaelin arnold. So you know that. All of their pitchers are going to be ready when it comes to florida. State that team relies on putting the ball on the ground forcing defenses to make plays so that's going to be their game plan. Going up against montana fouts knowing that she throws with such high velocity trying to see if they can put pressure on alabama's defense and they'll make mistakes. Paul one of the things we talked about last night was alabama's hitting know kilfoyle didn't have a bad outing yesterday. They just really weren't able to get the bats going so you know we talk last night on. Sec now about the bailey. Hemp pills the kaley towels of this roster really having to get the bats a little bit hotter tonight and make some of those adjustments offensively a- manage both of you know the audience for for women's softball just starts to build exponentially this time of the year so a lot of people have heard the name on town of fouts but those of you could talk about her celebrity right now because not only are people inside this world talking about her but people everywhere are talking about right now and rightfully so i mean not only is she an absolute pleasure to talk to off the field. You look at the way that she approaches every single game and we always comment about just the intensity that's all over her face something that her catcher bailey hill talks about a lot. She rarely has to psych montana up because she's always locked it. I think what's so impressive when you look at her season as a whole a lotta pictures would be satisfied with just being able to throw seventy seventy one miles per hour on a consistent basis but every single time she goes out to throw. She goes back and watches the film and tries to figure out. How can she get better so not only was she good at the beginning of the season but she has been throwing lights out here in the postseason specifically here at the world series. And that's what really makes her special is that she is never satisfied. So she's thrown with high-velocity she's got great spin great movement on her ball. And that's why you're seeing some of the best offenses in the country. Really struggle against her. You just hit the nail on the head because even in the sec tournament. I think she broke or came close to tournament. Record for strikeouts and paul in the post game interview. She was like yeah. I was a little bit concerned about my pillow tonight and we were like. Oh my gosh. You are pitching lights out. Same thing with the perfect game on friday night. She immediately hit the post game interview and was like yeah saw a couple things that i could do. Better in a perfect game describes her. I think the work goes all the way back to the offseason as well. Talking to coach patrick murphy. He said that one of their off days. He saw her walking outside of the weight room and so he texted her to say. Hey what's up. is everything okay. And she said. I'm taking it upon myself to meet with the strength coach because i want to make sure that i'm able to throw seventy miles per hour not just in february. But she wanted to be able to do it endings. One through seven here in the postseason and we're seeing exactly. You could tell. She was a little bit stress last night. She was chewing on the cup in the dugout. And we were like. Yeah montana's itching to get in that game. But paul i will say for anyone watching who has not watched alabama softball yet this season. You have to keep an eye on the broadcast for montana fouts father in the stance because he is one of the most exciting non softball athletes that we have seen in the post season. He's always getting fired up to watch montana. Throw guys thank you so much. It is a little over an hour away. And i think everyone will be watching. We really appreciate it. Elizabeth and matty and we will continue right here. There's so much else going on. We mentioned that the That you can keep up with our friends out there after the game all week. Long as long as the women's world series goes on an sec to through wednesday and probably even perhaps longer now that has been delayed. Well let's say one more thing before we get back to your calls and we've talked about it a lot but i realize new audience shows up every few minutes. Nick sabin has agreed to an extension until the twenty th through the twenty twenty eight season when he will turn seventy seven..

"Place get doughnuts for the crew if we were going to friday meetings. Bring donuts there So that's how that all kind of started and then because social media is a terrible but also beautiful tools me people. I had fans from other cities san like. Oh when you come to knoxville like you got to check out this donut place or like we've got a great one in tuscaloosa so not only can you bond with co workers over food but but people on the internet as well. That's how that started man. I absolutely loved that. Okay so. I was earning impression that you were a donut. Fishy nado that you were eating all these donuts now. Okay so. I was thinking that you know you're eating all these donuts by yourself day. You're sharing it with you. Know a dozen doughnuts that you and maybe like two other. People are scarfing these down. So i was thinking man. Elissa she seems fishy. Seems like a pretty health conscious person but here she is the scarfing down donuts now. This is something that i struggle with is struggle enjoying really good food like dona. Donuts are great. But i struggle enjoying it knowing that you know. It's probably not great for you and all that all that good stuff i drive myself crazy over. How do you try to find the balance between enjoying and not enjoying too much so this way. This might in semis. Make me a fraud to some people. Were air because this is my strategy you so when i have gone to donut places. There is one for example in fayetteville. Arkansas can't remember what it's called What it was fantastic. And i'll walk into these donut shops sometimes and just see so many that i want and i have a big sweet tooth. Like crazy suits. Love dessert so i will get them and you know. Typically i'll get a box for the crew all pick like the three or four that. I think look goods that i'm not showing up with a box of doughnuts that are half gone and i'll just i'll just cut him in like quarters and so that i can kind of doughnut share kutaragi like.

"I have to make sure really tell myself and again like good self talk. As far as i know my heart. And i'm not perfect and i'm sure there are times that i'm going to say something. That is wrong or crazy or whatever. It is but it's also not always about being right all the time just because you cover something doesn't mean you know everything about it I think if you're not learning any more than what's the point of doing this. So the internet trolls they stink but the warriors that are at your back i think there. There's just so many more. And that's what i try to focus on. Amen amen on the show. Last week we had someone on who is big on. I g on tiktok and deals with a lot of similar comments. That are just totally unnecessary. People just terrible. I don't know why there's something genetically with us that makes us want to keep looking. We know if we open that notification that it's going to be bad. I don't know why we do it but we do. And you know on a lower level blake when i was at espn and working on high-profile podcast and radio shows. I would get comments about you. Don't know wichita emma eggs. I was very nudist. I didn't know what i was talking about. But i let it let people get to me. And it's hard and it's hard to shut it off you can consciously keep that self that positive self taught coming but it's still hard to overcome. I remember early on in my first local station. One of the lead anchor saying to me. Don't ever read the comments most story on facebook. And you're gonna wanna go through the comments read. I'm just don't and i have made the mistake of doing that a few times. I actually caught myself a few weeks ago i was. I was searching for things trying to put together some clips from the last couple of years. Just because i like to hang onto things had slacked off a little bit on saving stuff. So i'm looking at what's been posted on twitter and i ended up on. Espn facebook page in looking at this video. And there's this comment. And i wasn't like seeking it out but i just happened to see it but of course it was like i think the comment was like sure you're a nice person but you are atrocious at this job. It's like okay. Isn't the worst one that i've got in my life but i still wish just like dang i was having a good day been. I saw that so You know it's it's tough when we live in this age of like you don't have to do anything like anybody can just seek you out and send their thoughts to you But i also do remind myself and we'll tell other people that don't don't go looking for it. don't try. don't start your name in twitter. I will say of never done that. And i never i hope i never will but there are ways to avoid. I was just say love and kindness. Just be the bigger person no matter. What when whenever people would comment on me..

Call me lost like they. Musk is so annoyed with idiots. Like us you get lost on aiking drill for sure. Well that's a great story. Thank you for sharing. This is the treasures of exploring. Love exploring but elissa so on this show. We like to talk to people about people in their twenties people who are going through the grind navigating the highs and lows of early adulthood. You're twenty and so. When i look at you and what you do on tv on radio on social media just in general life you seem to be killing it and what i love most about you is that you fully lean into being you and what i think and i find that rare among people in our demographics because when you're coming up kind of told to to follow the rules to bend to what everyone wants you to be and at cetera et cetera. There's really not much room for leniency. Your own personality and being who you are kind of like similar Early on in a relationship. You don't wanna show your true colors. You don't want scare off the other person that stuff comes over time but you conversely very early on decided. I'm going to be a list of lang. I'm going to talk about my dog. I'm going to have a show where i talk about. And all these things these are the things you love. Where does that ability to be authentically. You come from you know. That's a uneasy but tough question at the same time. It certainly wasn't always like that When i started in tv did exactly what you just said. And i looked at the people who i thought. Were really good at this job. And i just tried to imitate them. Because i was like well. I'm not gonna make it. If i don't talk like maria taylor final you know host to show like Davis and i think just the more comfortable. I've got being in the environment of tv being in front of a camera the more you almost start to get like board with being someone else and you want to be creative and and the only way that you can be uniquely creative is by being yourself To take some risks what. I would have considered risks. Maybe early in my career in writing sports casts. That didn't sound like a normal back to back to back. Highlights sports cast and you start to get feedback from people who really connect with you. And i think that's the name of the game when it comes to not just tv but sports broadcasting in any kind of entertainment..

"And i hike around charlotte all the time but this was a little more intense because it was an actual mountain so like very steep winding trees down all this stuff so we're walking on a pretty laid back trail for about an hour and then my uncle goes okay. Well we can do one of the legit hiking trails which is a loop around. It might take a little while but we can do that where we can walk back to the car so the group of i guess it's five of us. Three dogs were like. Let's go hike. We're thinking it'll be an hour to not too bad do hiking and we're hiking now. It's about three o'clock in about four o'clock and we start saying like you know what can't wait to get back to. The car regarded the brewery and gets a food and like couple beers. Vida's five o'clock and we're like okay. We lost because we've been walking for five hours and there's no end in sight. There were not a lot of sign edge over. There was not a lot of cited for like you know exit. This way was just kind of more trails and the signed two more trails So this whole time keep in mind. We don't have any service snow cellphone service or anything like that because middle mountain us about five thirty when i started to panic a little bit like we're truly lost. I've got his twenty pound dog who has hiked probably twelve miles at this point. This is crazy so then my uncle my dad kind of get into it because my uncle wants to go to the right by dad wants to go to the left in my uncle's like this is the right way. My dad's like match says we have to go this way and so i'm standing in the middle like we're lost. We're going to die out here at one point. Pretty sure we heard a bear So that we keep walking. We all with my dad's version. We keep walking. There's gonna be a long story..

"Warn everyone welcome in to another edition of the trademark. Show a podcast. That is not about me this about all of us. The twenties are a crucial time in our lives. And on this show we navigate the highs and lows of early adulthood together subaru excited for today's episode. Because i'm having a very special guests joining the show. Her name is alissa lang. She's twenty seven years old a lot of the listeners. Those podcasts probably aren't the biggest sports fancy. Probably don't know who she is but you will know who she is after this conversation that we have so for those of you who don't know like i said she's twenty seven. She works at espn. She works specifically on the sec. Network the sec. The southeastern conference. This is the big college football conference. This alabama kentucky ole miss. lsu georgia. This is hands down the best college football conference in so everyone goes gung ho over as football so the fact that she works for the sec network is one of the faces of sec network is a big deal because the sec network is like the bible in the south where college football is king so elissa is her face. Her voice are prevalent in many households in the south and throughout the country but predominantly in the south. So she host. Tv shows called thinking out loud sec. Now she has her own show called out of pocket which is kind of built around her own personality which are going to hear a lot about her personality today. She is very different. She's very cool. She's very unique. She very much leans into who she is. And i love her for that and the back story here so i know elissa in so unfortunately we cross paths at espn at the very end so as to see now is a is a branch of espn essentially so she is in espn employees. She was also doing some radio shows on. Espn radio now. As many of the listeners know i was at espn radio for the last couple months Of my.

South Carolina vs. LSU Football Preview

"Certainly one of the most eagerly anticipated games of the day tomorrow night in Baton Rouge between South Carolina and Lsu. Castaneda joining us from down there Quin. Thank you very very much. Appreciate the time, and it looks like a weather. Is An issue for what's going on down there right now? Well, just for the moment I'm across the street Tiger Stadium's to my left in their facility straight across the street I'm about to record up and advancer for tomorrow and had a little lightening. got. Dark severe winds and pouring but you can see the nicer weather up on the horizon. So things should be back to normal about ten minutes. We'll good because. That is a place that doesn't need Louisiana does not need any more bad weather. Quinn let's talk a little bit before we get to the game just about your job this year it's different I'm sure. A lot of zoom calls a lot of unusual situations caused by the pandemic. How would you describe the the obvious difference between this and every other year you've been on the sidelines for ESPN and ABC. Well, it's taken a lot of the fun out of it taken a lot of the things that I enjoyed get on campus to meet with the coaches to talk to the strength coaches just to get a vibe for how that team's doing and you learn so much whether it's Roman down the hallway and talking to a tight ends coach or bumping into a recruiting intern about video, they just paint so so that. Part of my investigation is is far less exciting. This year there's no social aspects in terms of our TV crew, our TV team so it's just zooms and when I'm on the road I'm the only one here are our broadcast crew will will broadcast this from Bristol. I'm the only one here. So I kind of treat this like I'm a spy, I don't touch anything I talked to strangers and I couldn't. quit. There's always a challenge on the sidelines especially. When there is weather but is it any or how different is it i? Guess I'm trying to ask dealing with the crew. Fifteen hundred miles away or maybe longer or farther right upstairs nothing you can see them but you at least know that they were seeing the same thing you're seeing. Yeah there's a little bit of a time delay in the audio so it can be anywhere from two seconds four seconds. So I've been on a crew with Jason Bonetti and Rod Gilmore. The last couple years Mike spent hot the whole game this year I've changed crews almost every week, and because we're doing it remotely. They can't have my mic on because we'd be talking over each other. So we do it old school and I'll talk to the producer I talked back and say, Hey, after the third down, play I wanNA talk about upon her coming out for hey, if they make a first down here I want to talk about how they're tight ends doing a great job so. Do it old school and go through the go through the producer in the in the remote truck. In order in order to get on air whereas in the past I could just talk and we were seamless. Clean on the sidelines I mean to say the least there are restrictions what are they and how much do you have to tiptoe around? It's really not bad. I mean we won I. Did a game not they actually made me call the game from the stands in the front row was good seat but I really couldn't get a feel for what was going on on the benches since then they've just widened appalled widen areas it's actually easier now because there's less hangers on, there's less alums, there's less NFL scouts until the sidelines are vacant and it makes my job a lot easier. I also feel pretty secure in that the players and coaches have all been tested recently as recently as Friday or Saturday morning. So I, feel good in that regard So it's actually almost easier less fans less crowds more space. Speaking of testing. How often do you have to be tested? we test once a week it's either an ad home test, and then you mail it in test results come back in about thirty six hours or it's an onsite tasks on a Thursday afternoon then you quarantine. And then Friday, they released you so so far knock on wood six for six negative tests. That would be Kinda. Nerve wracking you show up at a game and you have to sweat it out and you hope you don't get a a Nick Sabin positive. Let's talk about the game because. It's a really interesting game. Let's start with South Carolina just your. As I know you do gather as much information as you can you probably would like to. Be Able to gather more in person but. Your impressions of what you've seen to them and and what you expect. Well they beat Auburn as you know, and they got the three turnovers and converted those in touchdowns. My issue was South Carolina's they're operating an offense with very limited downfield wide receiver threats shy Smith is a natural slot receiver. Colin Hill is is working Mike, Lobos offense efficiently and their offensive line in running backs or carrying the day. Okay. That's with this team is I'm not sure they're ever going to be a high scoring team defensively they're really good corners who can shut you down they add to the box so. I think South Carolina given that Lsu has a freshman quarterback. I'm leaning towards them having some success defensively in this ball game. So I kinda like Carolina's ability to negate lsu with a freshman quarterback but Carolina's physical they're tough. They're not nothing flashy about him and I think big plays are hard for them I. Think they have to manufacture find ways to manufacturer big plays but I think this team is definitely moving in the right direction I. Think they've improved each week. And the other side of that you alluded to the quarterback situation team that has struggled mightily on defense quarterback play has been pretty good I. Know I know it's impossible to gauge because we don't really have a lot of information but. What have you what have you been able to learn about where they are right now? Yet, teach gets the start a freshman Ponchatoula high school. He's gigantic six, six, two, hundred and forty two pounds nets down from to sixty s a big toll righty and you watch his high school tapes just drops in the pocket and he conflict the ball and it goes forty yards without him even trying he seems like he's calm. He's Louisiana product of this dream for him the ADRENALIN will be running. Also expect to see, Max? Johnson. The son of NFL, quarterback Brad Johnson a lefty also tall but more of a dual threat and when you think about calling the game around a freshman quarterback making his first start, you know any kind of run game would be beneficial and to put the quarterback in successful positions. Early in the game, get him hit but but get a couple first downs give him some easy throws and I think that'll be on the mind of lsu going to be a little more conservative game plan I'd. Imagine. You know he's got targets downfield terrace Marshall their running game I thought was anemic Missouri game that was the most disappointing part of the game in my eyes Missouri was without three defensive tackles in that game and Lsu had no running game whatsoever good news for the Tigers to get Ed Ingram back at left guard. But this is an offense through the air with Miles Brennan that's been outstanding. But now you've got a new freshman quarterback. So expectations drop again, I'm seeing a little bit more of a lower scoring game here. In Clinton's you've seen them. The. Biggest used on defense. Would give. Horrible And coach today sentence embarrassing. Alignment. Very, often they're they're moving at a snap making checks that is when the coverage changes on the fly because of emotion because of formation change that has been a dismal day of given up big play after big play against Mississippi State, it was more catching and run the air raid defense was was atrocious quite honestly continued to play man defense got shredded by crossing patterns but I was at the Mizzou game and That game was defined by busts. I mean just blatant bus where I got him. No you got to I got you got him guys wide open touchdown in the running game. Their linebackers are not playing physical. They're not playing north not playing north. They're not getting to the line of scrimmage and engaging blockers to waiting for runners they're missing tackles remember the tyler beatty runs Missouri fiscally untouched broke attack Lens. Gone So. Those are the headlines here new quarterbacks for Lsu and a defense that has had no answers.
