And then, you know, your Deshawn Stevenson, you had Keith bogans. We had a strong, young team. And, you know, I asked for the trade. And you know, the GM at the time, he was my guy. He tells me he says, listen, what do you want to go? So I'm like, you know what? What are my choices, you know? He gave me his cup of choices. He said Sacramento, I said, yo, yeah, I like Sacramento. Those guys pass the ball, they play well. They're winners. I'm going over there. So we were going to Boston. And he told me not to suit up and literally right before I went out on the floor. And I knew it was a trade now. So I go and get traded and I go to, you know, I get the Sacramento myself or Doug Chrissy Doug Chrissy went over to Orlando. I go to Sacramento. I would baby Brad Miller, Chris Webber, Paige's story. I mean, Matt Barnes was there as my guy, I love him. Kevin Martin was there. It was a nice group, nice group. We are, we did pretty well. We lost to Seattle in the playoffs where ray and Rashard Lewis, but you know, we had a nice route. We had a nice group of guys. Mike bibby, I got one year with Mike and Mike was his IQ super high. You know, he wasn't as athletic as a Steve Francis, you know, not too many point guards was like that. It was baron Davis and Steve Francis. In my era that were the most explosive point guards. And for Mike, in myself, Mike was a fundamental expert, you know, bounce passes, you know, chess passes, shoot the ball, the right way, you know, get off the ball kind of thing. And when I would Sacramento, the whole team had such a high IQ and Mike leading us and when you have a Chris Webber and then you have a Brad Miller, they were point guards as well. So it was easy to score with that type of team and having, like I said before, having Mike bibby in the backcourt with me. I think as much as I love Steve, you know, coming into the league. I think Mike and that team made it easier for me. To score. You know, I'm scoring 18 points shooting 47% from three and 40 some high 40s from two. And it was very easy. I didn't really have to dribble the ball this much. You know, Mike didn't have to do the ball as much. It was more so passing cut and come off a screen. So, you know, you know, Mike definitely deserves his flowers because he, to me, was one of the best point guards, especially Myra. And, you know, for me, I said to myself, this team was going to win regardless. Whether he had me or not, even though American 18 points, it's going to have, they're going to win, 'cause they were coach well, Rick Edelman, you know, Pete, you know, all those guys. And I said, you know what, I want to challenge. So I was a free agent. So, you know, my steak was high. So I said, it was Kobe was first, because Kobe's a free agent as well. So it was Kobe first and then it was someone else on me than someone else, whatever it was as far as the shooting guards, as far as reagents, top shooting guards. So, you know, I said to myself, I said, yeah, man. I didn't like LA. Did not like yell at it, because I'm from the east coast, all that fake stuff, blah, blah, blah. Whatever. And then I get to LA and it wasn't so much about LA, you know, me growing mentally and maturity wise, it was more so the people that come to our latest acting like there's something different. LA was amazing. The people from LA, the outdoor scene, the activities, the whole thing was just beautiful. And I'm like, wow, I said, you know what? I was in Spain. And I said, you know what? I'm going to try LA. I'm going to try to not call Sam cassell and I said, yo, what's up? I think you should come with me, man. And we can really turn this organization around. And at first saying it was a little more he was a little reluctant. And then he set up, yeah, Kat, let's do it. So we go to LA. And you know, I knew the history of 14 plus years, no playoffs. They always lose in, blah, blah, blah, blah, the whole thing. And I said to myself, it was more so a challenge for myself. It's like, can I help lead a team, Houston Rockets you make the playoffs? Sacramento, you make the playoffs, right? And that's why I was a little, you know, but heard about the Orlando because they lost, they only won 18 games a year before. So for me, I'm like, that would have been great to go there and help those guys, you know, uplift those guys and things like that. And that didn't happen. So I took it as more of a challenge going to the Los Angeles Clippers. And getting them to the playoffs, and you know, just seeing the faces of kadeem hardison and Billy Crystal and, you know, Freddie muniz and all those guys that were loyal fans for so many years. And once we clinch and we make it, I mean the city, the stadium, everything was just amazingly beautiful. Sam was a yeller, but it meant he meant it in a very uplifting way, right? And if you didn't have tough skin, it was kind of hard. But again, Sam would kind of get you out of the holes that you were in mentally, right? Because he would attack and then he would slow your brain down a little bit or he may give you the ball in the easy spot. Just different things like that. But I met Sam, my rookie year in Houston. And another underrated point guard that I love to death was Nick Van Exel. And him and Sam were tight as vice grips, okay? So they took me in. I was their guy. And they would teach me certain things along with Alvin Williams, just how to attack the game. How to play hard, how to do those different things. And, you know, for me, I think it's 2004, 2005. My 5th or 6th year is when I went to the clippers, and I was sitting there like, you know what? Sam was a fridge and I'm like, Sam, I think me and you should help the clippers, man. I think we can do this. And at first, he was like, nah, come on, cat. Are you serious? The clippers, I'm like, say I'm telling you, you gotta help them brand, you got Corey magda. You got a nice little unit there. These both of these boys average 20. They're gamers. All we gotta do is change the mindset. And having Sam, I don't think people really understand how lethal Sam was. Sam, he may have been scared or fearful inside, 'cause all of us have these emotions, right? But there's a certain amount of people that never show it. And he never showed that, right? He wanted to win all the time. And he would let you know that. Whether it's practice, you know, shooting drills, just different things like that. So I was blessed to be around a person that was so competitive. At a very young age in NBA, right? Because you can easily be around somebody that's a little docile, a little, you know, don't want to be competitive, things like that. But I make the next

I didn't really have to do much, right? I just control what I can control. You know, I was topping assist attorney ratio. And then when you have those guys like that that are so good, you know, you don't have to play with the ball this much, right? Hopefully y'all don't get stripped. And then, you know, you pass it inside and go to a corner. So that was my rookie year. I made all rookie team doing that. But I credit a lot of that to my rookie year preparation of playing a point, or just, you know, being a basketball player period. But actually playing the point was to Alvin Williams who played footballing over and then he played for Portland in Toronto. So he helped me with a lot of my point guard skills growing up because album was always a point guard. So he was, you know, the smart point guard to get everybody involved. And I think for me, being in my rookie year, I just wanted to be on the floor. So the coach told me, you know, you got to pick up trash, you know, after games, then that's what I had to do. So that was my thing. I encourage children, younger kids, whatever the position is in any sport that controls the game. The playmaker, I think you should learn that one first. Because see when you once you learn that when I think the whole perspective perspective of the whole spectrum of the game opens up, right? So when boxing, of course, you're your own point guard, right? But in football, I was a quarterback, right? And then I moved to wide receiver, but then back to quarterback. But it shows me, you know, my old line, in my back, my back feel my receiver's slots, you know, post oh my guys. I know exactly what I know my def I know what the defense is going to do to us. So I'm understanding the game from a bigger perspective than a three or a four or a 5 man, or two, even a two guy, right? They just learned in their positions. So it's for us as point guards to get everybody in their position because he would the coach usually does is a culture say, yo, listen, cat. Listen, we're going to run this play and then we're going to run this play. Then we're going to run this place. So you got to remember three plays. And if you score rookie year and Rudy tomjanovich was like this, if you scroll on that play, run it again. Keep running it. And then don't look over here no more. If you don't score, run the next play. So now I got to maybe four or 5 plays down down the line. I have to remember the next play, and then put everybody in a position. Now I got to figure out, okay, the key mics it over here, this person likes it over there. They were hot over here. I'm becoming a little more strategic of how I, you know, enter the game mentally, right? So can I get Corey maguette, the ball early so he can get us into bonus early as a team because myself saying pacelle and Elton brand attacks the rim. So if Cory gets us in the bonus early, it kind of we dictate the game. It's like just different things like that. So, you know, I advise any younger person to learn the point where I position just for that perspective, right? It's just like, you know, I'm a single dad. So I have my own household. So you're not cooking in the cleaning and it is and the kids in the packing and lunches and I got to do it. You know, and as much as you want, you know, the family, 'cause the mother doesn't make some job as well. But you know, as much as, you know, you can't depend on someone else to do something because then when they're out there, what do I do? It's like, yo, turn the channel for me. And then they go and you're like, I don't even know how to work the remote. It's like, I need to learn how to do all this myself. So I think that perspective is being the point guard in life, right? And you don't really have to really control it, but just understand it. So when those people are not there, then your leadership skills starts to kick in. You know, when Steve came in, you know, he was phenomenal to me. It's a lot of people. You know, he's super explosive. I mean, he was the only guard that I saw on a nightly basis that would get ten, 12, 15 boards. And this is at a time where barren and Steve were the shorter guards and the league and we, at that time, in the early 2000s, at that time, the league was predominantly 7 footers. So you was an inside out game. And these guys are going in the attack and the Jermaine O'Neill's in the rashi Wallace's and the Tim Duncan's list goes on Lonzo mornings. It didn't matter. And to see Steve every single day. Regardless of hemoglobin being an older or Charles Barkley or Calvin kato was younger at the time, practice was even amazing. And he kind of taught me how to attack the rim because I picked up a ball at 13. I wasn't even the basketball player. I was a boxer and football player. So in playing basketball, you know, what guys better than you, I think that's what helped me elevate watching Steve crashed the boards on offense and dunking it over big guys. I think I can do that too. So I think that's what helped me with Steve was to use my athleticism to the best of my ability. We had a really good squad as well. I mean, Steve was at the one I was in two. Jimmy Jackson was at the three, who's amazing, you know, all around player. And then Calvin and Yao Ming. So we had a really great squad and we had guys coming off the bench, but you know, just to see that team, what Gary Payton, you know, who's one of the best point guards ever. And then you have Kobe Bryant, who's arguably the best you guard ever, you know, and then you have Rick Fox who's one of the best role players in Derek Fisher's coming off the bench and then Carl Malone, one of the best power forwards,

I didn't know what i was thinking. I just named like kidding and thank god. When i got there i went to the league. Surreal for me man. Just you know you know growing up coming home. Three o'clock watching big monday syracuse georgetown. But it was. It was good for me. And then you know a lot of coaches. Do lie recruiting bake habits. Were man gave me the ball. I was the first freshman ever to lead the biggies in minutes per game. Woah thirty four. Seventy so i had to be burnt out but that was at la culture that they do that. And i was skinny. But i was tough and a killer and what was like the environment you know what i mean going from like an la person right so like dot. That was like for us. That was like we was all watching that share. You know what. I mean because usually go and then they transferred back home. You know what. I mean kaz for all different reasons in syracuse. All i all i knew about syracuse was like the snow. That's what it was was a load and snow called the whole thing. And that's why i learned like timberlake's as you start getting teammates. I learned about chuckers and big old abor eggs jackets and so two coach. Change for me but it was cooled back. Then you know it was bumping nies yup in big yup so it was like man we had a whole nother coast but the love was real am behind master recruiter. I was like man. It's going to be cold out there. He was like well. The dome is seventy two degrees. And his day that way l. Seventy four hundred seventy two. I said well as collies. I yeah. I'm cold too. So when he does words was like man. He and i are still friends to this day and that that started back. Abcd camp but every time we've seen each other he he and i had like a personal. We planned like one on one with our teams. Hang holloway to this day was probably my only college rival point guard because i want and would he had and obviously he wanted to beat syracuse because obviously he was off but thousand my rival man he was caused caused supercup. I knew it was really like some cheap dirty stuff elbows coast. So that's when i was like i don't like him rapetti pierpoint now like him. And that's when i know rivalry started in quite frankly today man. We still friends. That's now talk about talk about talk about not liking people and and how how i feel like that is a part of like you'll point guard or you filled him saying it also like a great transition into being a great coach but talk about like as a point guard when you lineup or you go to the game. What is in your dna triggered. Gp wanna punk somebody. Yeah you know. What i mean like yours is different Like taco bell like that point guard or an like worse than that. Dna dna and specifically talk about why. You didn't like people why you had to not like people show my my era or was a layup line. I was disturbed. You down in He think he's sweet. Later by happened. Even the guys who didn't drink. I was just about to say that because and there were some guys. There that ordered specialty drinks flake. The is issues aged bourbon. Or whatever like twenty dollars a drink. I remember that bones where you fired up. No i swallowed it. Why you're fired up on the inside. He was burning you. Well i noticed it on the inside you know. It's one of the things like oh boy. We're all splitting. This and i even split my meal with someone else. I didn't even have a full stake that night. Did you know going into it. Though that would be the case. Course you always. why why. Why would you split a steak with someone. If you if you know everybody's gonna pay for it. New baby need but again you're old new baby. I don't feel bad for you. Do four and one of them is pretty new. so i'm thinking. The homeless approach of being honest bad week need a couple beers then. We didn't think that was probably gonna be the way it was going to be one. The hawks were looking great. I i really think. I figured it out but then i think doc rivers is also realized like danny green. No one's happy that the guys injured but they've got the personnel that can replace him. I thought i found out of this game. But i i'm not sure if he starts him i guess he probably does in in tonight's game but clearly if you can get in trae young's face and just make life difficult for him. It makes it difficult for the entire hawks offense and what they finished with one hundred and ten or something like that. But this game was not close to the sixers won this rump. Even though the margin was only sixteen at the end it was never even really that close. Yeah tasks like i said. Some of us were down. There were hanging out with some hawks pros and even they were like sort of saying. Hey we beat the knicks. You know they were still riding. That wave of like. We had trayvon quieting the msg crowd.
