"Was and remains an absolute tragedy for those who have not heard there was a sweet 16 party Saturday night, a young bunch of young kids celebrating and four people were killed, about 30 people, injured, one of the one of the people that lost their lives was a young high school star who had signed a scholarship to go play at Jacksonville state. And that's right. Every week we see something like this, but every day that a lot of folks in Alabama know well and it's just literally right off the road and I was extremely heartbroken as many of you were to see that news. Yes, sir. Ironically, Harvey updike when he called you years ago, he was Alvin Davis. Yeah, you know, I couldn't help even though I didn't want to. I couldn't help but think about that over the weekend that when he called in, he lived over there in that area, which is a beautiful area. It's like your idyllic small town in America, Paul. Yeah, no it is. And that's all I had to ask my quest for. Kevin, thank you. I'm glad you mentioned it. And I'll spare all of you the obvious violence that occurs across the country. You don't need a Sherman for me, but the most important thing is hoping that the people that are suffering in that community that they can find some way to get back. Which one of you wants to tackle, just the basics of how trees grow. Katie year I can take that first one so just like humans trees need food and water to grow but they get this there this food and water in quite a different way than we do. So trees and plants are really incredible in that they can actually get their food from the sunlight. So this process is called photosynthesis, and it's really amazing. The trees can take energy from the sunlight and just using water and carbon dioxide, rich, a molecule floating around in the air. They can create energy. On so far this energy that forms of sugars which contain. Carbon. and so that's how they get their main energy for Brawley, but then the water of course comes from the soil. So, they can take the water from the soil, using their roots, and they also get other nutrients and vitamins from the soil as well. We'll. Let's go a little bit deeper into that with a couple of other questions. We have because you were just talking Katie. About some of the The things that a treat needs like water, and it also needs oxygen and sunlight, so here's a question from Sienna I'm eleven use old. Share so you can almost think of trees as breathing backwards from us so when we take a breath in We're? We're breathing in air and we're really were taking oxygen out of it. That's what we need to breathe. And then when we x hell outcomes, the carbon dioxide, and so trees actually kind of do this in reverse So you mentioned earlier that when they do photosynthesis, they're taking the carbon dioxide out of the air and using. Their sugars energy. but then. Whence that sugars in the tree gets used up. Then that when it uses up that carbon, it actually produces oxygen, and that is released back out into the air. For us to breathe as humans And spent I think one of the question mentioned Where does that happen in so the the The air actually goes into the trees through. little pores in the leaves. Are the needles called still matter and so that's where the air comes in when they're when the leads, the needles are doing photosynthesis. Do we call it breathing I? Mean would you say that trees breathe? You know that's an interesting question People feel strongly about whether you can apply thirty human centered words to trees.
