Good afternoon, Matt looking at heavy Jeff on 8 80 in the southbound direction just after alvarado boulevard doesn't release up until you get to about auto mall Parkway. Now, right before you get to Mari avenue, there was a report of a crash. That's what I'm looking at a little extra break Tapping there, but it looks like everything's been moved over to the right hand shoulder, which is better news, but you're still going to be very sluggish as you continue through a Fremont. Unfortunately, someone was hit on the freeway and killed so they investigation still continues just before you get to McKee road, the two right lanes still remain closed, no estimate of time when lanes will open there. You may want to consider taking a 6 80 or even for that matter. Getting around 87 some around to the downtown area that actually looks clear and at the speed limit there was some slowing earlier as you leave that area, but it looks like things are looking much better there. And also a much better news in a Saratoga just as you leave the Saratoga area on a westbound highway, excuse me, a highway 9. "Previous color pointed out that a lot of people who struggle with mental illness are really smart. It's absolutely true. That our brains and we have color yesterday who was thankful during thank you Thursday. Thankful that we are recognizing and giving greater respect for mental health challenges. But all of us have challenges with our brains, all of us have things we've got to figure out in terms of how we figure things out. Anthony alvarado wrote the book DIY creativity, which was a great book that he followed it up with DIY resistance. And he is coming to us with a new segment. He's on right now, and the new segment is galactic brain, mind-blowing facts about the mind. They're going to blow your mind. Got a little loud. Anthony, how you doing, man? I'm doing really good, Jefferson. It's great to be here, and I'm excited to share some mind-blowing facts today. I'm so happy to have the mind-blowing facts. Now, we haven't done this before. But first of all, we should do, we should at least get to know you a little bit. You do a radio show of your own, you do, you're working on whatever your next thing might be. I wanted to ask you about DIY resistance. It was your second book. What prompted you to write it? You know, the night that they called Trump as winning the election, I knew in my gut. I knew from watching this guy that he was going to basically throw a coup. And I got very upset. I was very worried about that. And I immediately contacted my agent, we got a hold of a publisher, 7 stories press, a great alternative press, and we came up with plan for how people could deal with the Trump onslaught. A lot of it's actually about self care. You know, I'm a very mental health oriented writer and a lot of it is actually about how you could care for yourself during the Trump years and during the Trump era. And then there's also a lot of activism tips in DIY resistance. And then, yeah, why magic is more about creativity tips. But yeah, I come from a mental health background, like you were talking about a moment ago and I'm really, I'm all about the brain. I'm all about the self and finding ways that we can take care of ourselves because I believe this is something I learned from doing being a mental health counselor for years. You have to take care of yourself, Jefferson, before you can take care of others. If you burn out on taking good care of yourself, you're not going to be there in the fight for democracy. You're not going to be there for your friends and family. The self is very important and looking after your own self. And that starts with mental health that starts with the brain. And we know this in terms of the general principle we know that anytime we take an airplane anywhere, they remind us to put our own gas face, put our own oxygen mask report before we put in our neighbors or our kids. Yeah, exactly. It's a pretty basic principle. First, you have to make sure that you're going to survive and be in a good place, and then you can look after others. It's funny, it does play both ways for me because sometimes when I'm struggling, the best way for me to get out of my struggle is to think about how I can help somebody else, and sometimes that helps my mental health. Yeah, and that's true. That's true, but then there's also, that's a good thing. I want to say that's a good thing. But there's something that I would see a lot of times there are certain people, people that tend to get into jobs like teaching or counseling at the people that really like helping others so much that they can kind of become martyrs and forget to look after themselves. And I will say, I mean, much of the

"So hot, companies like Volkswagen are sold out of EVs for the rest of the year. But some see an opportunity in another sector of the market. Classic cars, what if some of those cars became EVs? Think that Pontiac or Camaro without the roaring engine or the smell and environmental consequences of burning gas. Marketplaces Andy Euler is reporting on companies doing just that. If you want to see classic American cars in their native environment, come to the parking lot of a foster's freeze fast food joint on the first Monday of the month for a meeting of the San Diego association of car clubs. There are a couple dozen American classics, there's a 1969 Pontiac firebird, a 67 Chevy Camaro, and a coupe that Paul alvarado has been bringing to car shows for a while now. I've had this 1940 mercury since 1965. He's driving high school. I was given to me by the original owner and didn't look like this. The restoration took about ten years and more than $70,000. For alvarado, there's something visceral about this car. The sound, the smell, yeah, it's a gasoline engine, especially one's been modified like this, that it sounds different. You can hear it's got more horsepower to me. That's kind of the attraction to it. You hear that from a lot of classic car fans, how much they love the rumble of a Chrysler Hemi or a Chevy big block. The cars like these on display are embedded in California culture. But so is caring about the environment. Solar panels on rooftops and electric cars. Alvarado says he doesn't think it makes sense to combine the two. I could see there's going to be electric car on my future someday. I don't know when, you know, but as far as converting a classic car like this, I just wouldn't be interested. But a ton of folks are just about a 15 minute drive up interstate 15, David Bernardo's hot rod business caters to him. It's called electric and it has a two year waiting list for services that start at $68,000. And that's if you bring your own vehicle. Well, let's take this take a spin in this 1969 Porsche 9 12. We get in and Bernardo turns the key. So it starts up the same way as your original car did. Set this little beep. It starts up in the same way except not at all. Just one little beep. No motor trying to turn over. No rumble from the tailpipe, no smell of gasoline. But once you get it on the road, it responds even better than it would have when it came off the assembly line. And. Drive like a madman or I can kind of go incognito and just cruise around in an old sports car. The body is old, but the guts are pretty new. The motor in this Porsche was taken out of a total Tesla. The company that supplied David Bernardo with that motor is another half hour drive north on the 15 freeway. It's called EV west, and it's at the heart of the Southern California network that's electrifying classic cars. Founder and CEO Michael breen met me in the company's garage. Really what we try to do here is develop all the products and the kits. And develop it for guys like David and all the other guys, basically doing this. A kit to do a basic conversion of your own car into an EV is about 20 grand. Bream says these conversions take a lot of time. It's not just a matter of taking out a combustion engine and replacing it with batteries. This is a 1971 Carmen gear that our technician mark is working on. He's probably sitting over here on a cad cam program right now and he's modeling up the copper bus bars. He's going to have manufactured Edie west laser cuts sample parts, then test fits them, and if they work, orders them from local manufacturers. Breem says the weight can be anywhere from one to 5 years, depending on the complexity of the project. Right now, his market is basically celebrities and rich people. We are talking about classic cars, so even if we left electrification out of it, classic cars in general is something that people with means get involved in, right? So we're not really changing the formula. And we're not even changing the demographic. We're just changing the product that we're selling. But a two hour drive north in south Los Angeles, a company called zero labs is convinced that EV conversions don't have to be just for drivers with lots of money. Right now, it's electrifying Ford Broncos and land rovers. Two vehicles that have a passionate user base. And like everybody else in this space, they can't convert vehicles fast enough. In part, that's because everything has to be done by hand. Technician Garrett green was busy welding a console. This houses the display for your radio. And also some speakers, and what else? Oh, charge ports for phone and other accessories. Currently, there are fewer than half a dozen zero labs vehicles on the road, but Adam Rowe, the company's CEO says he wants to convert more to tackle the problem of waste. He says about 20% of all cars eventually end up in landfills. So in addition to cutting exhaust emissions, converting every kind of used vehicle into an EV, will cut out a lot of garbage. Because this is much bigger than just classics. We're starting with classics because that addresses the green premium market. But 5 years from now, I want to be doing school buses and federal fleets and mail trucks and things. There's no reason why we can't, rose says he can't do it now because there are no economies of scale. And he says those are only going to come with substantial investment, and a commitment from the automotive industry to stop thinking about EV conversions as a niche market. That's marketplaces Andy Euler. Jesus alvarado, Sasha Fernández and Daniel Shen, produce our show, Becca Weidman and Brian Allison are our engineers. Amanda peacher is the interim senior producer. Well, I think this is a really interesting paste race because I think you can pick a lot of different horses, but we've watched the turf at Gulfstream park over the last several weeks and you want to be sort of close to the lead and there's not a lot of speed in here. That means to me coinage coming out of the breeders juvenile turf should be in a good position forwardly placed, but coinage ran into royal spirit. Now it was a while ago back in September at Monmouth park and royal spirit finished ahead that day, a $450,000 sun into mischief for Todd pletcher and Mike napole. Yes, royal spirit only has one career victory. But I like what they're doing with this horse. It's been aggressively spotted. It wanna maiden race last time out. I think the mile in a 16th will be just fine. That's where I went. If I get 5 to one, I'm thrilled and what I think is a race that can go a variety of ways, but I want someone near the front. Okay, I think you're right that coinage has a big chance, but I'm going to finally pick somebody different than who you picked in the race. I'm going to use number two coinage. There are four horses in this race who are already stakes winners in their career. And I'm going to try to beat all of them with number four speaking scout for gram motion and junior alvarado. I'm hoping that junior alvarado can find some sort of ground saving trip. He's never ridden this son of mister speaker before. And even with that, not so great trip on the turf last time out. He almost won. And he gets a little more distance to work with, which I think will help his chances speaking scout for me, coinage for Dave in the grade three kittens joy race 7 tomorrow at Gulfstream. This time around Senator carol alvarado from houston spoke for fifteen hours. Now if you were going to say this was just a gimmick. This is just some sort of a stunt. You might think that the what the senator would do is start talking at about six o'clock on one evening which she did and maybe talk till midnight or one am that way. It would be covered on the local news at ten. Pm around the state and might make the national news that there's a filibuster happening in texas over the voting rights thing. She talked for fifteen hours until right about nine o'clock the next morning as she was wrapping up and listen to what senator alvarado had to say in her closing statement and keep in mind when she sang this. It is unclear if families that already have been reunited abroad will be allowed to come to the US while they pursue their claims of asylum. Opponents of the change say it will encourage a new surge of asylum seekers at the border, says CIA. Alvarado is Nevada state director for the nonprofit Mi Familia. Time, she says. The Department of Homeland Security is expected to release more details of the policy in the coming weeks. The UNLV immigration clinic recently helped a family regained custody of a child.
