"Something. We didn't mentioned on the show. That i think a few people. I saw the youtube comments measuring was that. Oh please stations giving this game backing though so it has to be a big thing. There was a playstation blog post. And they're creating this trailer app not playstation. There are a lot of games. You probably have never heard of that. Also had playstation blog posts. That you just don't remember and like that is a very more a more common thing and we're actually going to talk about that a little bit later in the show though maybe about the barrier to entry to do so for that but it is a thing that doesn't guarantee that sony is funding this game in any way so i just want to put that out there Question do they. Did they put up a trailer for the trailer app. Not yet know if. I'm going to download an app. I gotta know what i'm getting in for you know. Put up a short film of a man describing y. You couldn't watch the trailer app for two more months. Despite it being supposed to launch that day which is like i feel like they. It's incredibly poor taste. I'll just flat out. Say that but to not communicate that earlier and to do that the morning of i mean there are people being like. What time do you think it goes live nine. Am or what about you know midnight new zealand time or whatever and they're like no. It's just not going to be here for two months. How did they not know until that morning that it wasn't going to be ready for two more months. That's kind of insane. Yeah i wanna see documentary behind this whole like thing. It just feels like everyone is being scrambling. They're being so somebody said of friends of miscommunication. And yeah. I i would love to and it's very. It's very trump ends up at the landscaping. It's got a it's got that vibe. Yeah it's it's industry scenario. Where like. I certainly feel for the dev who didn't expect. All of these is on them in a way that is questioning their own existence. Like this is definitely a guy who for weeks now has been told. You're not real. You're an actor and that probably grates on a person. I can very much like understand empathize with that. But i also i agree with you. Brian like this was definitely something they probably had to have known before the minute they were going to launch. Yeah and knowing how many is are on them they should have just said a couple of days ahead. Hey we have to push this even more.

The 2020 PS4 Games We Can't Wait to Play

"The game awards the last week to go from the show airs. We saw a hefty goes to sue SHEMA trailer with a summer. Two Thousand Twenty eight. If you asked me. We're now at four heavily anticipated towels house for next year. We can open this up for debate but those four are according to Brigitte. Final Fantasy seven remake cyberpunk twenty seventy seven. The last of us are to an Shema when I I would like to ask the beyond crews this if you could only choose one of those four games to play next year. which would it be and why Virginia's first and says F F seven remake? Because I think it's still one of the greatest of all time. Thanks all the great content on the show each week and happy holidays cyberpunk. Yeah that's that's the answer. It's I think it's the most hosts new thing despite the fact that we've gotten eight hundred things cyberpunk shaped and we've also gotten a million games with cyberpunk in the press release. That's the one that feels was like a brand new thing. It feels like the most sort of future facing in terms of like this is a whole new generation video games. I the last of us is one of my favorite games of all time If it had never gotten a sequel I would have been perfectly happy because it was it had a perfect ending for me. It is the loss of us. Just because I think naughty dog are the best storytellers the AAA space. And like knowing that this sequel exists and not knowing where that story was going to be taken destroy Oye Mi and I would never recover. It would kill me not knowing where they take him. I agree with you Altana like if there there was never a sequel. I would be fine with that but the fact is like if I knew that in this alternate reality if I knew that that game existed yet I just couldn't play it like I would did. I would go crazy and this alternate reality. All four games are still coming out. You just only get to play one. Oh Santa telling you wouldn't I wouldn't. I wouldn't get to experience it. That's the thing like what some like some really telling what like in five minutes about products products that I actually hit that. We're going to have to make last of us to ending. Explain some sort of like feature feature. You'll Middle Ages ages on them sort of elderly Irish lady I got I got really excited. About fantasy seven remake. I think some new screen shots were kicking around and I just I was kind of looking at the being like holy crap. We're getting this like we're eating this soon. And that's GonNa be the beginning of that of that game and like I have really fond memories of the original Movin Ninety seven I've tried to go back and replay it and it's just it's rough. Yeah it's just one of those games like many games on the original playstation. That is just so beautiful in your head and then you play them again and it's like Oh dear new Evidence new curve soul now but so am I.. Someone's GonNa Naughty in addition to this this list which is very good I'm weirdly I'm kind of. I'm kind of not lukewarm. I'm just like I I think the last of a set such a high bar the first time around and the fact that it is sort of. It's it's not a known quantity but it is a familiar universe. I'm so much more excited about cyberpunk just being like this. Is the thing that we first heard about in twenty thirteen thirteen. Yeah we've been thinking about this for seven years like it's nuts There's also on top of this. I was looking at the calendar. The release schedule for the next here. And like I'm excited drag Abbasi Korat. I realized it's just me on that front. No no Max. Speaking of the fact that I run features at DOT com. I need you to make some features about that place. Seven seven hundred reasons that yeah job as the best. We're trying to do a holiday here where you don't want assignments. Yeah that's held. That's the least you can't say an idea around Lucy without it becoming each. It's you know we've given me. Oh love to go sushi okay. So here's my thing is not fair running down the list of the four. I actually if the only game I can't play can play for the year I'm ruling up the last of us because on the off chance hands as much as I love the first one. It's one of my favorite games of all time on the off chance. This one isn't good or doesn't live up to that one right and that's all. I have to sit with for a year. I don't know if I could handle that. I personally chur understand why most of our offices excited. I don't really care about type of punk.

What PS5 Launch Games We Could (and Hope to) See

"Right and if it's not most of the current library are you can play why would you want to upgrade unless it's your job to upgrade anyway moving on from his has created another one that I think we'll see across gen ecosystem with black ops five also the reports earlier this year that obviously the cycle wouldn't have a black ops next year but there were reports from Kentucky that essentially issues behind the scenes of call of duty have all is tracked to take over the project this is all alleged not convert by activision and their then putting the priority into making black ops five now black ops as a franchise is is on Google Seo trance-like as big as call of duty like people associate the two brands almost so I think having black ops at the beginning of a generation having blackout it became so much more popular than I think a lot of us were expecting at the launch of regeneration saying that ecosystem will be there for you on launch day makes a lot of sense called duty has been there for a lot of generations with xbox one and ps four I think it was that funny thing ghosts was a launch title and do the comparisons where like in the three sixty version and it's too like laundry machines in a room and then the next Gen version it's like a four all day visual changes in so called is no stranger to straddling the generation line so expect that to happen this do you think I mean I don't Wanna get ahead of you on this list but I'm GonNa Police do you think anything that's going to launch on the playstation five we'll be Christian party maybe but not first party I think anything and it's really hard to say because like I do agree that this generation will be more incremental I think it will be a slower start for a lot of people buying onto this new gen I lot of this stuff has to be because the idea that you'd release a call of duty or as second any of the major sports games on only the next you just can't you lose so much money investors would be so angry the player would be frustrated like it just doesn't make sense to but at the same time people need those familiar experiences on their next Gen but that's that's exactly what my point is of like I I don't think you're right I don't think there's any financial case to be made essentially for anyone to skip ps four in twenty twenty great and you you you would not want to you wouldn't want to be that development that's working on a launch title for like playstation five only except for exclusives and that's the thing even then I think it would be a bit of a Sony all through the money at them yeah I it makes financial senses if it is Sony making it happened whether that's a first party game or them paying very heavily four and exclusive to only come to that system because they're going to need some of that to pull people over like you're saying they need those draws but it's definitely it's it's it's less enticing I think for developers to go from PS four five than it is to go from three to four and that's maybe what you're hinting at implying when when you say incremental it's like people can take that out of context and have it means something more harsh than you think but then the draw is not quite as much there for a lot of people when the PS four is still a wonderful system with a lot of lively games to play out the shift like a you know we look at the game service is sort of like a bad a bad thing but it's also stuff like like remix siege or or fortnight or d Sydney where they're just like yeah we put out put out a new thing in the box every two years but in the space between those things we like continue supporting it and you create a a player ecosystem and you create like I mean it's it's they're basically like little social networks where it's like you have people who come here all the time and they hang out and their friends and this is there this is their activity so like why would you want to throw that out every every time a new thing comes along and like with yeah with with seizures great example too because they've said that they're they're gonNA keep updating game for I think it's like ten years they first announced it they said it's just gonNA live they're not making each to they're just going to keep updating this game and linkages are really good candidate for something like ubisoft coming out and saying hey there's GONNA BE A. PS Five version of siege on launch day can have all these such and such and such improvements graphically obviously because you can't get too much because then you start having a competitive advantage and Yada Yada Yada but I think that's a very good candidate for something like that same with I think games fortnight and everything else like those have to be there if not launch pretty soon after yeah and we're moving on from that one quick one which I think we can all pretty much agree on all the sports games Madame Fiba NHL NBA will probably all be there one from our own Brian Altana who can't be with us because he's at a preview event which we will not speak of at the moment this came from him bloodborne remains third and his reasoning here of it the reason here's weirdly bloodborne is one of the only games like especially exclusive to not get a PS four pro upgrade the patch like it didn't get one in the same way other first party games did that allowed it to play more smoothly on a PS four pro have all the bells and whistles that are pro gives you compared to a launch ps four and it weird he is neglected in that sense even though that game is beloved and it's still talked about all the time and Sony is well aware of the Phantom of it so doing a bloodborne remastered one get you really big name that you know everyone loves give people a reason to pick it up again which is always the big reason when you do a re master and it's probably not as big a lift assay working on blood born to see I was GonNa say I'd love to see blood with the launch time do you think we will know realistically but you know that's different on my wishlist because blood born is one of those games where everyone's just like oh come on please give us a sequel game time like I just I want more I will be with that said I will be extremely satisfied with a with a bloodborne remastered and I would actually get a playstation five just yeah I know that's terrible it's not like sending in money or anything it's just like the idea of what that game will look like on playstation five makes me want to weep right so I'm definitely not the right person for that because I still haven't finished the regular version but if I'm like keeping I wonder what I'll finish that will I have children by then it was very possibly we'll avatar to be out who knows but like I'm sort of chipping away at didn't take my time with it and if they come out and they're like hey we're putting out a new better version I'll be like can I bring my save files like no I don't WanNa fight that horse again Brian's right in so far as like that is a real night Brian it's it wouldn't be I mean I say this with very little understanding of technology you save his dot p. s. five and it's good to go exactly it wouldn't it wouldn't be as massive just the graphics four J. Pig Lodge it wouldn't be as l. left as bloodborne to of course but it would be a really well regarded name I would love to say that as launch title be very interesting I think it makes sense and we'll get into more Sony exclusive stuff now as we go through the last one breathing I want to mention all kinds of sandwich this we know of your will they'll be supported on PS five they're not announcing plans for a PS VR to it looks like right now for launch asking those going to probably come a year or two in but I still think you need to give a reason for people want to play. PS Vietnam ps five and my two guesses would be an obviously they'd be crossed Astro about two and a new PS VR game the first by INSOMNIAC as party for PS VR in has a big history with vr some really great stuff that they've made for other VR headsets aster about is one of if not the most beloved ps VR game those are two really easy wins to say hey they're available to play on ps four but if you play them on ps five they have extra graphics X.

Automation could make ports more efficient and EKO friendly, but with fewer people from American public media, this is marketplace tech, I'm Amy Choi in from Ali would. More consumer goods come into the port of Los Angeles than any other US port a plan to use more unmanned, electric vehicles would bring major changes to the port and its surrounding economy, union workers are pushing back hard against automation at a protest this spring, workers held signs. It said robots don't pay taxes, and where will American labor work. But poor donor say that automated technology will cut costs in L A and help California meet its ambitious goals to reduce greenhouse gases today. The port is noisy and polluted. A massive system of ships cranes and more than one thousand seven hundred trucks passing through a day. Most of them diesel automation could change that picture. Romi Varghese reporter for Bloomberg news tells us what an automated port of Los Angeles could look like it becomes almost silent when you when you see some of these automated vehicles in action under the plan that's being considered for the port of alleged. A for this one terminal, which is called peer for hundred which is the biggest shipping terminal in North America. By the way, der plan is to have this automated. Straddle carried is one big piece of equipment would basically do the job of three machines. How a lot of nation of the port effect the local economy. I, I know for the port of L A the local community is a is a community of L A called San Pedro. And it's a very blue collar community that has really relied on the ports for its economy, and honestly, deports in general are responsible for much of the economic activity in southern California. It's, it's a huge driver of jobs, both indirect, indirect jobs. I talked to a bar owner and about half her patrons are, are longshoremen, and she's worried. Well, if are fewer of them on going to have to cut back my employee hours. I'm not going to be able to hire bands to calm for nights of the week. And defaults who are promoting automation, are saying, look, we need to say, we need to stay competitive, we are losing market, share to east coast and Gulf Coast ports, because they are more nimble, and our ports are in, in the our ports in, in California just more expensive. So you have this micro aspect to this the micro impact, and then the macro impact, you know, your reporting revealed that there are forty four automated or semi automated ports around the world. But there are only five in the US it seems that that slow have we been slower to adopt this technology? American ports have definitely been slower to adopt this technology and a lot has to do with the power of local unions. And in Asia, a lot of these ports are, are newer, so they're using the most up to date technology, but generally American ports have been lagging. Ng in automation because of the concerns of how this affects local jobs, that was Romi Varghese reporter at Bloomberg news. She notes that LA mayor aarc are said he continues to lead talks between the union and the port. And now for some related links the need to go green in LA Israel public radio station KCRW reported that the Los Angeles and Long Beach metropolitan area was ranked the worst in the nation for ozone pollution for the nineteenth time by the American lung association. Some of the causes cars cars cars, and the ports on the automation, tip the Wall Street Journal, had an article about a new study by MacKenzie saying automation will hit both male and female Labor's equally. It's not just men working in manufacturing who are at risk of losing their jobs. But up to one hundred million women losing their jobs globally by twenty thirty primarily in clerical in customer service, gangs. And while both men and women may lose jobs and equal pay stewed automation women will be less likely to have the opportunity to get the training required for new jobs. And finally, we might not actually be. Ready for all of this automation? We're talking about urban planning scholars surveyed hundred twenty cities in America about their preparedness for self driving cars and only a tiny fraction of them have comprehensive plans for autonomous vehicles. One of them Los Angeles. It has an urban mobility in a digital age plan. That includes ideas about dedicated lanes for Altana, Mus cars municipal fleets of robotic buses, and shuttles and vehicle data sharing relationships, so that the city can manage traffic flow. We're going to look back at the year that was in two thousand eighteen for position the crazy amazing releases the weird some PR choices that they made and the conferences and lack thereof throughout the air. Are also gonna be talking about this weird thing that may have told us how many people actually have games on PlayStation. Thanks to a weird trophy hack. People figured out. We're going to take a look at some characters we think should be in mortal combat. Elliot. Scorpion zero k no Lucon mortal. Combat the lyrics that song the name of it. "They sent. Hello and welcome to the heat. I'm Brian Altana. This is max Scoville. We are talking about toys. This is one of our favorite topics in the world. We've done a lot of sad, miserable morose topics on the ship before, and I think it's probably time to do something that's a little more upbeat and fund, which might also still get sad and miserable morose. So what are toys? I don't. That's a, that's a great question. I think by by definition of toys, like anything that is designed solely for the purpose of play? Yes. So that that does that mean games or toys? I've gotten into this debate with myself and others and even on social media before about whether or not video games are toys, whether or not musical instruments toys, I would say or computers really anything I, I would say for the purpose of this discussion, we can focus on toys as sort of the tactile tangible, small plastic year. Figure shaped hat tells a keyword there also like toys games that don't have rules. Again, our thing that I mean, obviously you could be like, yeah, ball as a toy. But if you play a game with the ball, then it becomes a game, you know, sort of upset of, I don't know. We're getting, we're getting, you know, complicated here. I wanna talk about action figures. We talk about that. I think that's that's an important sort of difference right there because action figures to me are something I gravitated to his very young kid and the more I think about them as an adult action figures and cars, and dolls, and all this kind of stuff that kids love. I put them next to like art and music and Santa Claus in the categories of things that kids really love and that many people just grow out of forever. Yeah, towards her thing that there's that there's that bible verse. That's like when I was a child. I spoke like a child. I put away my childish things and it was like everyone died at age twenty three back then. Yeah. Like like lead in the water. You got married when you were twelve. Kids and the coolest toy was probably like a like a stick that had like a leaf on it or something. No, that's actually important that you bring that up because I think that something that's really fascinating Matola is like art and like music people in the most primitive scenarios in the in the most sort of like resource Lewis environments in history, find a way to make toys. I mean, we see this in sort of like art museums in ancient cultures and stuff like that history museums, people will build children will build dolls and figures and action figures and stuff like that. Also. I mean, you look at like ancient ancient shit, and it's funny. We actually went to the museum natural history in New York together. We're in New York for for Comecon doing those were walking around in the shooting videos about all these brand new collectibles and toys and action figures. And we're like, we had a, we had some free time. So I went to, you know, the the museum we walked around. We looked at all these little these little figurines and trinkets and we're like, man, these new amoeba are really, really letting us down and it's, you know, it's like. Ancient like totems and in in like little little statuettes and like most things you know there are there the versions of those things that children are making playing with, and then there's the version that the adults are playing with and making or not really playing with posing or sitting letting sit there and the adults are always like, this is not a toy. Like for me when I was a little kid, my dad was really into sports and I was not, and I had action figures and he had sports trophies. And like if I went and moved them around, he'd be like, those aren't toys and why..

"Not really going to unleash the productivity gains yeah the the example that always comes to mind partly because it's come up on this podcast a few times is driverless or autonomous vehicle technology import because it's sort of obvious that we're not yet ready to embrace it at a very large scale because we have to for instance figure out how to develop the kind of traffic system that would allow for thousands or hundreds of thousands of cars on the street at the same time all being altana asli driven we have to figure out what to do about insurance contracts and who's liable for accidents things of that nature but it could also well be the case that the technology itself yes it will be transformative if it leads to a lot of driverless vehicles but it could also be used one day in ways that we haven't really imagined yet it could be more transformative than we even realize simply because it hasn't sort of played out yet like we just haven't we haven't given it time to develop further and we haven't thought of all the different applications and it might one day have really of course i haven't thought of the applications myself so i i got my crystal ball the neil viet thing that strikes me wouldn't be telling me on this podcast you'd be patenting it somewhere count if you would be the first person you know what one thing that immediately strikes me about that is the still stuck in the model of driverless cars integrating with cows which have drivers we've got our old model of of drivers and roads and the rules of the road and and we're going to try and make driverless cars integrate with that obvious alternative model is to say i don't know we just we could make this so much easier more efficient environmentally efficient inefficient in terms of congestion and safer if we just banned all the humans from driving cars just all the humans and only robots are allowed to drive cars and they would just you could put machinereadable markings on the road and they could drive in convoys that would just be enormously easier and maybe some city somewhere maybe it's going to be california maybe it's gonna be somewhere in china maybe it'll be singapore somebody's just going to go hang on a minute.
