"Say, I think probably it's so hard, honestly, sorry. I'm just like, it's really good. Pretty much yeah. I think they're just neck and neck, really like. There's not really one where you're like, oh, they perform better over this period. I think that you probably expected more from both of them. I think neither of them will go away from the season being like, oh, that was my best work or anything. Yeah, I think that yeah, I think maybe I think maybe Chaka is maybe been a little bit better than bought us over the season in terms of yeah, maybe it's bad weekend it's probably having been as bad as some of bosses have been. Yeah, but yeah, it's very, very tricky. I think both of them you've got to think you would have expected a bit more. And it's a bit disappointing that needs to them have been able to pick up more than more than one race win. So yeah, I think that going into next season I think particularly to Paris, he'll be needing step things up, but he's always said that next year for him. It's a blank slate with the new cars and everything. It'll hopefully remedy some of the sort of difficulties with the Red Bull chassis that have obviously blighted him and Alex Alban and get a gasoline. So there's, yeah, there's a good chance to reset there there. I think for him. I'm very excited for the end of the year when obviously everyone gets to put in their various report cards and rankings of people. They're at the 2021 season because there's been a lot of good, but oh boy, there's been some absolute sort of very average results, but for all sorts of different reasons. Let me start with some of the positive ones. I think I wouldn't say this is a positive. It's almost more frustrating in terms of it's one of the great redemption stories in in Formula One, not to mention almost being turfed out of the Red Bull program in Pierre gasly. So for him to have he's had a great couple of years to be quiet on us for him to I guess be snubbed for I guess for a second stint at the same year Red Bull Racing squad, which is unheard of. He never go back to Red Bull Racing, I think he's is the model one here at your ass. So for people like him, I guess that's been a real positive story pit, but also equally frustrating that he I guess has to sort of keep in this alpha Terry circle going. Yeah, it's a funny one, and Pierre has always taken very much in his stride. He's made so these comments being like, oh, I expect to be rewarded at one point and I sort of always have the ultimate getting back to Red Bull. But I think that as long as our tower is his team that's maybe fighting for 5th in the championship at best. That's not that's never going to fully satisfy a driver. But the difficulty is that because every other team has kind of got everything sewn up in terms of like, well this is our main driver now for the future we've got an eye on this guy that it's hard to see where Pierre would actually get that opportunity unless Red Bull yeah, they did sort of have a complete, I don't know if max left maybe at one point in the future and it was well, well, let's get Pierre into leaders. He might, I don't know, but it's a funny one. And I think that it's a shame because we do want to see the best drivers in the best cars and really fighting it at the front of the grave. But also Pierre, I mean, he's been a Red Bull was not obviously not good for many reasons, and it's clear that he was not faring. He was not in a great place with it all. Whereas ALF taria is just such great environment that really does rally around him and he is able to bring the absolute best out of that team and out of that car. And I think that it's really nice to see him sort of like handling it as team leader and he's stepped into that role. So, so well, I really hope that at some point in the future he does get that shot with 18. Whether it may be at the front because I think that yeah, he would be would be brilliant. But yeah, it is just yeah, we're going into next season. It's like okay, again, we'll have another year when it's like, well, we want to finish 5th in the championship. I think before castle, you thought, okay, I finally can do that. That's fantastic. And now you're looking at like, oh no, I'll be in again and taking that big step forward. Over the season year gas Lee and alpha tariff have been best for now paying file pain and just have these strong weekends like hungry, like that's our as well. And then you just pick up these big point tools and that's what the swung it away from them. So yeah, I really I would really love to see sort of get that chance one day down the line. But right now, it is really just hard to see, I think, but yeah, it looks like it's kind of stuck out in a way. Let me interrupt our chat with Luke Smith. We'll get back to him in just a second because it's that time of the program, not to wear Franco cozzo tells you what to buy, but it's a time where I get to tell you that.

"At the week in Formula One. Of course, flags and half mosque elsewhere, half mast. Man, I'm struggling today. I am struggling on this artificial long way. Flags and half moss. Oh, half mask. Just like doctor melano sort of he knows. Well, yes. Everyone try your nostrils out of respect for birth. Half mask no, half mask? Yes. This week though, we've had some closure. All of this has made artificial, by the way, I just all reported. The Andretti takeover of see how bad it's not happening. After it was definitely going to happen last week, it's definitely not going to happen this week. Several outlets have been reporting that it's no longer. It's got its off. It's been called off because essentially they wanted too much money and really didn't expect them to ask for that much money. And that's it. It's all dardan, which means presumably. What a pity. Absolutely what a pity that the way is now clear for old mate. Can you Joe to finally get that deal done? One would assume. Well, it depends on your perspective, doesn't it? It does depend on yours. And for balanced one, maybe in the box take four or 5 or 7. They're good enough. For what? That's good stuff. Yes, it is a shame though, isn't it? Because as much as well, I mean, they're not even cold sore at the moment. Alfa Romeo is a good brand though, even if it's just the naming of the companies not actually associated with Alfa Romeo and anything but a sponsorship scene. But what is good about this, if you read the various reports that are out there, is that fundamentally the high price was because intending to spend very close to the maximum over the next couple of years that is up to the budget cap to develop their car. Which does mean that even if it's not, you know, it doesn't have Andretti's backing to it. The sour team's obviously been around for a while. They've got people who know what they're doing now. They've got the funding in place apparently to actually spend commensurate with all the other teams in the midfield and are up. That is still a good outcome. Yeah. But I do wonder if I wonder if they'll go around again, the andrettis. Yeah, because I don't think if you think of all the tapes of the looking for I guess I Formula One equivalent of a disaster payment. I wouldn't have picked out for mayor comes ever. To be to be desperate for it. So yeah, I don't think their future is exactly. It was just it would have been a nice to have, I think if it was owned by someone else. But yeah, I do wonder if the Android is will sort of scat the marketplace again, sort of, you know, maybe they'll replace the Ural Cali rubles. Some Andretti box. To tie up that U.S. lineage with the house F one team or Williams just got solid, but venture capitalists like a bold quite quickly. Not really sure who else would do. I mean, yeah, yeah. Well, Aston Martins in their hands. So no one's really apart from maybe alpha Terry. No one's really probably up for sale if you really think about it. So I had to get a foot in the door. This is what I think just released one more free license without the stupid sanction fee or whatever they the teams are great on for another team to cut into the I guess the formal one pi is another entity without absorbing an existing franchise, but I hope it's not the end of that, because yeah, I reckon we desperately need another team on the green. Yeah, this is a shame, isn't it? Because like you say there aren't that many that seem as though they're up for sale. And you kind of don't want just the teams changing hands anyway. Because while it's a nice boost, you know, look Andretti united William sounds pretty good. Yeah. But I wouldn't be able to order sport with him or whatever. It doesn't matter. It would sound very good. But we're at a point now where every time kind of feels like they belong there in their own way. Okay, it's probably still a little bit to prove, but if they rock back up the order next season, then we should remember that when they debuted in the sport, they were also pretty competitive. I feel like there's a reason for even their, of course, Williams started saying most of the other teams have been around for long enough that they deserve this spot. So it's a shame that if Andretti a name like Andretti wanted to get involved in Formula One, that there are reasons for them not to want to set up their own tape. And likewise, you know, the great unresolved question. I mean, we know the art is going to be no, because they've said this for the last decade and never joined Formula One, but one or two of the VW brands. That they may even be dissuaded from starting a team because they have to pay 200 million bucks. And they may just buy apple partner with Red Bull, which is okay. That would be great for Red Bull, obviously, but he's also still kind of boring. Like, the might of Porsche would say. And the might have read bullet championship contender, arguably in the box seat to win at least one title this year. We don't need those two teams to come together. We think it's a point. Yeah. And you think about maybe another person. So let's say I know Honda came back with McLaren because I think probably a little bit of historic raisins for that. But you know, if Toyota were mad enough to have everything to sell a fan a couple of $1 billion again under the cats, let's give it a crack again to get a handful of podiums. Yeah, that would have to buddy up with the team. I'm not sure exactly their company that would do something like that. So yeah, it actually, you know, the great RNA is kind of restricting it to weirdly enough. Well, largely independent of car manufacturer teams, apart from the current mob. Yes. And did you know also, I was reading. I was on the Fox News website this week. Believe it or not. Just trying to just reading up your own research about the great benefits of horse they were. Yeah, absolutely. Really yell at getting another bloody vox? That is one of the great stories. God, it's been a look going on this week in the news, hasn't it? No, not Nelly. But there was a headline, which was why is America's Formula One team so bad? And that was in reference to house, of course. Which I think is a shame, isn't it? Because after all the good news over the last week about Formula One in the United States U.S..

And that sort of thing and there was a lot of talk that capricious getting term and that sort of thing as You know he's still making mistakes. He's still learning. And i think that's the thing that a lot of people including myself needed to remember but this was just a really solid mature in our legal hitter. "This is a circuit that he's raced on many, many times. He has a lot of experience. And this car seems hooked up. He seems to have got a really good setup in that rebel. And so he looks, he looks quite comfortable. And that sort of like precipitated in having that fastest time in FE two. So all four of them really could be in the mix. Obviously, I'd probably swing in favor of one of the Mercedes getting the fastest time. But we'll have to wait and see. It's definitely going to be between those two big guns if you like. And moving on to the battle for third in the constructor championship, Ferrari were looking quick today where they're both drivers in the top 5 and FP one. Despite a spin for Charles, but then in FB two Lando was a second fastest with Daniel 5th fastest. So the tables turning there a little bit between at the two teams. Ferrari have obviously recently given both their drivers that upgraded package, and it seems to have had a positive impact on the car performance. Can you tell us any more about where those gains have actually come from? Yeah, so one of the things Ferrari's done is it's reconfigured. It's battery within the power unit. And both drivers took new power unit components over the last couple of rounds and Ferraris just sort of seemed to kick on. And having had a look at the long run times towards the end of FB two as well. The two teams Ferrari and McLaren have looked really, really close. Both sort of running in the low, one minute 42s hymen one minute 41s. They look to be on a par. You wouldn't say that the circuit the Americas is one of the circuits that is best suited to the McLaren because, you know, you have the towards the end of the lap, the sort of reverse Turkey Turner if you like, which is sort of 1617, that kind of area. It's not great at those particular corners, and you wouldn't expect the McLaren to be sort of so good at navigating the first section. But that's one of the sort of areas where the Ferrari Ferrari really excels. It just sort of seems to ride those curbs really, really nicely. I say that because science did have a little bit of a moment towards the end of FE two. But they seem very, very evenly matched in the sense that they're producing similar lap times, but their strengths do vary. And so, again, this battle as well, like the Mercedes Red Bull one, this is one that's going to go down to the wire as well. Third place, it doesn't, you know, it seems like a little bit of a consolation prize, but with it comes prize money and all of that kind of thing. And a little bit of bragging rights as well. But yeah, the two teams seem very, very evenly matched. Now, moving further down the pack. It was a tricky day for Fernando Alonso today. So I want to touch on him for a moment in FP one we saw him stopping on track pretty early into the session. It brought out the red flag and then in FB two, he had a spin ended up in the barriers at turn 19. He was able to drive back to the pits, but going back to that first incident in FP one. Do we know any more about what the issue was with his car? We don't quite know what the problem with Alonso was in FE one at the moment. But yeah, it was very tricky day. They did manage to get the Alpine going at the end of the end of the session. So he was able to get some laps on the board. And then, yeah, that's been towards the end of FB two. Just spun it turn 19, which is catching a lot of drivers out. And yeah, sort of when managed to get it sort of rearwards into the barrier and didn't do too much damage. You could just kind of scuff an end play and I'm sure there'll be a few other little bits of ancillary damage that Alpine will have a look at and get fixed up for tomorrow. But yeah, it looked like a very, very tricky day for Alpine. And we'll have to sort of wait and see and see if Alonso is able to shake that off and kick on an FP three and get prepared for qualifying in on Saturday. Yeah, we'll see how things unfold for him tomorrow. But sticking with those at midfield teams for a little while, Alpine Aston Martin alpha towery, Alpine currently leading in the standings on a 104 points with alpha Terry behind on 92 and then Aston Martin trading behind a little on 61, what were your thoughts of their performance today? And how well do you think each team will be suited to this track? It's very, very curious in that battle because one of the things I saw on the F one feed was that alpha towery was the third quickest car according to the the performance indicator. But it didn't really pan out that way. Out of the two teams coming out of FP two Lance stroll was obviously the quickest out of those three midfield teams up in Aston Martin, after touri. Going P 6. I'm going to get a really clean running on the soft tire during the quality Sims. So Aston Martin seems to be relatively at home. You know, obviously, it's a sort of similar design ethos of the Mercedes, so obviously from Mercedes does well, then you would kind of expect us to Martin to have a good run too. Avery looked a little bit at C to be honest with you because Pierre gasly only, you know, we usually expect him in the top ten. He's a fixture in the top 6 in qualifying and he was only 12. In FP two, so yeah, the car didn't look that bad on track. It looked, you know, relatively benign handling. But it just didn't seem to sort of have the pace. An Alpine.

"It, but wouldn't it just be really cool if we could sit back on our couches and watch a Red Bull or Alpha Terry team running a Porsche, you know, Audi or or Lamborghini Brands power unit one that just be Amazin. No, it's not going to happen. Got it. Here's why. The management has never committed to an involvement, Formula One. Dadgummit it could have happened but no. It could have happened but it didn't now here's the thing. That's actually that's actually a really really exciting. I guess I would have to say thought and I really want to entertain that someone because honestly thinking if an out of your Porsche Lamborghini power unit coming into formula one that actually sounds pretty darn interesting and I want to do some more research on that topic right there for you guys. And I think I'm off in the podcast but I'm definitely going to put that on my YouTube channel and it'll be a little short video about could if if we lived in a if we lived in a world in society where anything literally Anything is Possible. Could that happen and I want imma do a little video of for you know, know of that for you guys cuz I think it's it's actually a very interesting topic to go over. So I want to do a video of that for you guys, but they have kept a close watch formula one, but they have not committed to any involvement. So as of right now there's basically nothing there but I was reading this article. I just had to put that in there. I was like, there's no way I can like keep making this episode without saying something like that because that would just have everybody just go like, oh my gosh, if that happened I would be watching this forum or whatever. So with less than eighteen months to go before the first race of 2022, it would be almost impossible to get any new project to a full competitive level. whoa So are you trying to tell me that even if rental did Supply a power unit for the Red Bull or Avatar? A Formula One team, you're telling me that they couldn't get a project ready for a competitive level of Formula One..

"And I also told you guys that I read that article in the last episode of the podcast that Red Bull has the potential to either match the Mercedes power unit and a couple of years or even pass it. So now that we have some more insight. Now that we have some more I guess detail on it. Let's go deeper into really I guess I guess I guess the the the the the history of it, right? So first things first after pulling out of the sport at the end of 2008 Honda had returned to 41 and 2015, which was the second year of the front hybrid V6 federal regulations. Put them by the FIA, right the manufacturer initially had an exclusive deal with McLaren. Like we said, but the relationship got off to a bad start and never really recovered which then had, you know, Honda and McLaren basically splitting ends. So then for Honda in 2018, they have dense will do the Toro Rosso from the one scene and then after that and about the I would say I would say in June 2018 Honda and Red Bull announced that they would indeed booked up right initially for the 2019 and 2020 Seasons. So now if you logically think about that what I just said like right there that last line right there. They would only initially sign up for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Don't just think it's not really that big of a surprise anymore. Yeah, it makes sense now, right if your team was initially going to sign up for only the 2019 and 2022 Seasons now, I'm sitting up here and I'm like well, wait a minute. This doesn't confuse me anymore because their contract is essentially run out. And so this is where we get into. What does this mean for Alpha Terry and Red Bull which are really the two biggest Honda supplied T James. Right. So our first thing is that Honda's current current contract with Red Bull commits the end of the 2021 season. So that's going to be next season. That's when it ends right the top Management in Japan off and just had to make a decision on whether or not to extend its involvement which also gave these two teams which are alpha tari and Red Bull some time to think about faith or partner and who they would be supplied with in the 2022 season and and and basically beyond that in Formula One..

"But apparently they then I guess like a couple of years later which would be in 2019 started supplying engines to Red Bull. So now here's the other thing. We all know that Red Bull, you know, and and and an outfit re or before that tour Rosso has been has really made a name for themselves, right? We know that took last year in Brazil PR gazley had a complete drag race with Lewis Hamilton and actually ended up getting third place. I think it was third place. Yeah, I think it was third place in Brazil. Wow, I believe that Max was stabbing took first. I would have to look back you guys on that one. But God, I know that. Gastly took third and so really you're thinking well if they're really kind of crushing it in the form of lung game. Why would they leave which we then explained right about the ejector moving toward that carbon-neutral future and everything else? They're also going to be dropping out of that great deal with Red Bull and Max for stopping because we've seen that Max verstappen in the Red Bull team is freaking really really solid right Max verstappen literally has people writing articles about him being the next Lewis Hamilton. and I also told you guys that I read that article in the last episode of the podcast that Red Bull has the potential to either match the Mercedes power unit and a couple of years or even pass it.
