"Exclusively on zone. Go to his own dot com now to sign up. Here's the word Durant as of now they are listing him as questionable coach curse says he looked good. And we'll see where it goes. Because he was a part of the morning session. So he's listed as a game time decision guy that he plays. No, I'm just saying questionable fifty fifty. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely play. Well, they need them. Yes, they do that has been made obvious over the last four games. That's for sure. Mike massapequa park. I Mike our you today. Mike. Good. So, you know, personal Yeltsin respect you guys knowledgeable on the best, and I agree with almost everything you guys stay, but you don't buy my head off of this. But have you guys really thought through maybe some negatives of the idea of thing, signed me up for Joe Girardi if Mickey Callaway workout? Well, what is your thinking? I don't think he's the right that team and a I don't think he's going to be an issue because I think the players love Calloway. He's gonna hang around just enough this year. To stick around. But I don't think he's going to be fired, but under no circumstances. Do I wanna see Joe Girardi? Let review like, do you like Calloway? Yeah. I mean I like the fact that the players love him. He's that good. But well let me ask you a question is the fact that the players love them. Is that a good thing? I'm with you, man. I agree my answer. If I give you LB to would be no. I don't believe he's the manager of the future of the Mets getting fired that year. Okay. But my point is why I don't like you're already a couple of things. I don't feel like a long-term Yankee, and this is not a, a, a realistic reason, but I just don't like the karma. Bring in another longtime rival did he rival were Yankee or a glavin burned up in the biggest game when he was a met or Willie Randolph didn't get the job done either town level, and I don't want him as man with the things we did get them to a ninety seven win season. He did do that. And Yogi Berra did manage them to World Series. So I'm just throwing those one hundred years. Throwing that out there. You know what I mean? That's my a might be is. I think that you have to take great assault with a manager that wins a World Series with the Yankees as the World Series winner. I think he's one four three World Series as a player. As the manager you won one World Series and you have to take it with a grain of salt, because the Yankees are generally better if not one of the best teams in the league. So I don't know. The children already was necessarily the reason why the Yankees won that world. Nobody. I respectfully disagree with literally everything should number one. I tell you, I don't think Joe Girardi using Yankee, I know you manage there for a long time. I know he had a big hit in nineteen ninety six in the World Series and spent four years, there, when I think of Joe Girardi of the player, I think of more hinting Chicago Cubs. Right. That's number one even Rockies a little bit the Rockies a little bit, the kind you have a cough, citing more to do think of the Yankee did play long enough with the Yankees to think of a big moment that triple drive, the great right? So he was the Yankee dismissing it. I guess I just don't view him as a Yankee Ivy, Willie Randolph as tank. Yes. Because Willie was again, of course we played for the Mets very end. Right. He was a gang right? So number one, I don't look at him as a rival. That's just me number two. If you're going to blindly say, well, the only one world one World Series for the Yankees. That's true. But I also watch you watch almost every Yankee game, this guy managed we're in this town. We're doing a radio show. We watch everything he does more so than talking about Ned Joost or dusty Baker anybody. Else we could talk about Joe Girardi managing as well as anybody because we basically what everyone of his moves, and I always felt that he was very good manager, I found I defended of most of the time you thought he was good manage. I'm with you. And again, going back to Callaway. Is it really good thing that they like him? I don't know if that's so great. They love Todd Bowles. The jets, they all love them. At least that's publicly what they said. We'll have that work out. I don't know if that's such a good thing. And I think you put your body with a young because Mets basically young team. I mean, let's be honest with you to core of this team. Now is young guys. It got the they got canot, and they got raw most. They got some veteran guys, of course, you know, you wanna look at the pitching staff as being more of a veteran staff, although it's still relatively young. Jake is the only guy over thirty outside of August. Right. Right. The only one we had no right? I mean it's still. Right. It's still relatively young group. All the call. Guys, a young guys McNeil Alonzo. Dom Smith and we're going to resign. Conforto. He's guys are all young guys yet. But I think Joe Girardi would do a terrific job. What we're relatively young team. I really do agent was Ascii says Lakers, clippers Knicks net all have made offers to New Orleans for Anthony Davies. So you got all made off are all the nets after to know what would you what would you give up footer for Anthony. What's your thought even even talk to you about that? We haven't even would I give what your thoughts on Anthony Davis because I've never been mentioned with the now star. I'll make it very simple. Not carousel avert. Okay. Not carrots liver else giving up. What would I give you I don't know, the mechanisms of the CBI to know if you could pull off a sign, and trade with Russell, because I think if you're signing kyri, and I could use Russell and Alan as chips, I'd make that trade, I have to make that tray just because yeah, that and I love the Angelo, you know, I drank. Right. But I gotta be draft choices to how many more by. No, no. I've gone out there. I mean, if I can protect them just insurance wise. Yeah. I would do that. I don't know if that's enough. Teams, the Lakers and the clippers clippers and the next to New York teams into the same teams vying for Kevin Durant, Leonard right? Yeah. It really depends what David Griffin wants because I think the Knicks have a chance to have the best offer. I really do. If you ring Mitchell Robinson, the number three picking the draft. And then excess draft picks because you've got the two extra Dallas boy me, a very solid offer. I think the Lakers are almost disqualifying themselves because I don't think they want to train him to Laker. So I think they don't want to trade him too. So I think you have to throw them out, right? Right. And I don't really know what the clippers can offer. I mean the clippers had a good year this year. But a lot of the pieces are not like the Nilo gallon are is not going to be appealing to them. So. I think the next may have the most appealing offer if you're willing to make that trae I know you're not as you about it. But, you know, I'm sure they'll do it. I think they would give the thinki- can entice Durant. They would do it. And I would only make that Russell deal if I know I'm getting Kyrie Irving and basically, as a net fan, I would build around kyri, cowards liver, and Anthony Davis. Call today. I'd feel good about that's it's it is kind of dirty because the nets talk so much about not skipping. The right way. And they do that. Right. So we'll see. But I would I would not trade CARA slivered. Am I crazy to say that? No, I think lavar has a chance to be a superstar. He's the guy. He's the one guy on this ASTA. That is a no go. Basically any deal. I would agree with that. Let's go to Tom and Bloomfield New Jersey. Our you. You just had two points. I wanted to make about the NBA finals. And then I'll listen to you guys. The first thing is coaching. I believe Nick nurse out coaching Steve Kerr. So, so tremendously. To teach equalize rotation worries the Pacific ready to play. Yeah. Heard looks lost which is rotation. He's forcing cousins cousins looks like he's out of gas every game McKinney cook. He's a real of another who said a big stage who do you wanna problem? Look. You're right. You're right. They don't have the best play. Let's be. We made allies this during Loyd's wants the ran got hurt rank honor. We minimize the. While they're going to win. We all started saying. I said it they're gonna win a championship. Don't even either end. Yeah. Well, you know what we find it out. They need the rain and it's fair to say boogie cousins, like he's just not ready to shot of water. Other than that one spurt that he had came game. Remember game to guess it was the game. They want. Yeah. I'll listen to the game. They won cousins has looked like he's so not ready to come back McKinney loony. Who do you want him to play Andrew bogut? Andrew bogut for twenty five minutes. What are you have a lot outside at a to Thompson? And Cari, really Jayme on green is not much else after that was why yes, it feels like Nick nurses out coaching them. But you also need to play better. Sometimes it's a simple event JC and Pearl River. JC. Hey guys, are you doing? Good JC. Rub. You guys a little old two little league the cold out. But I wonder if the caller earlier, get we would bash in the network. Announce. And I going to say I mean, I'm going to die hard. Yankee fan, I but I do admit the vets are the best meth announced the best technical announces the game. And I and I love Keith. I mean I just loved his personality to, I could be without. But I know they're great announcers diminished that, but I just think everyone's gotta take me. I'm like, what I watch you, I'm expecting a mentor meeting there. You know, they will have to be perfect at every, I mean, even sterling entertainment. That's what we're watching for right now. A you're not role. You're definitely not about might take usually on announced is just don't overly annoy me, and I'm fine because the game is the game. Right. I actually find myself watching most games now on mute and I don't mean that as any display, you know, you don't need. I don't need it. Baseball's is very easy game that you don't need the sound to watch, right? You just don't..

"It teams. Teams move, they're making some money. But if you're going to go out and get a Shane greeting. Tigers. You know, you're going to have to give up. Yeah. You're gonna have Felton. The next the problem is he already give it up. It's not a whole lot, there other than lower level, guys. The problem here. It's tricky. Even if. Even if it's a making money that. You know. Really love. Milan-san. Available is he is he were taking on because you can take on the. Salary. I think he's gotta try something. And if that's if that's all you can get. Probably not enough. But. You know, harp it'd be nice if one of those hundred arms at oldest acquired by dumping, everybody the deadline will maybe one of them did something I it's, it's ridiculous. The Yankees for the one time in their history that they're sellers. Cashman turns Chapman and Miller labor. Tourism Clint Frazier and the Mets when they were. So the last couple years, I couldn't name, you guy, they got back because they haven't done anything, bash ler or Raim, or all these guys. Nobody's producing an old image is one of those guys to give you solid solid eating in the bullpen. They couldn't get it. Yeah, you're right, when you go out and that was the whole idea. You know you get that many. Gonna turn into something and really have. That's a problem. They're sure I mean bachelor. You know, he fastball couldn't be straighter. So that's the problem is some of those guys that came to think about bringing into important situation. So. The problem online. You're right. They right now they don't have enough. I have enough to hang around, which probably be a good thing, but. Break it down either because they're committed down a contract the next couple years. They got to try and make good at what they have. Run. Stuck in the middle X stores place. Debate. It's exactly right. Thanks. Have you made me feel a lot worse? I was feeling bad about things. You make me feel worse. I appreciate listen. I appreciate it. Thanks for your time. Thanks. I appreciate that. John Harper of sl is going up a good stuff there, whether it's on B N Y baseball, New York. Geico sports idol writing for us. And why dot TV gives you. Good stuff with the baseball, look, I guess you could sit there and say, yeah, there's a chance that the Mets turn around. I just don't see not to mention the fact that Detroit's the GM to make the right move. Do you trust the data applicator to apply the data correctly, I guess he can apply the data correctly? Who can they give you the data just go out there and apply? It but he's certainly can't manage just too many holes. And it's a shame because they have good young players. You like we see offensively from his you love. Alonzo Dom Smith has had a terrific year, Conforto, now he's getting back healthy starting to look like you'd hope he could be from start to finish of a year. They have some pieces, but the stuff that van wagon did in the off season to Ed tha that young core, obviously not working and. The bullpen is far far from being where they need to be for this team to be successful. Eight seven seven three seven sixty six sixty six back to your calls on the other side right now update, here's our sound..

"Histories with Jan. Reagents. You look some nets outside. Free agent. Trade. But go look at the history of their trades, and free agent, so in some. So what in fairness, let me say this in fairness, there's been a lot of Bootle trades has also been a lot of Goodwin's. You mentioned the mandates trade. The Gary caught a trade, the trade where they got David Cone for Ed horn has been a number of trades that have been a lot better than you say that. It's been a lot of bad. Trae. Sure, don't get me wrong. But there's a mix right? It's not overrun one way or the other night. That's my point about the nets was completely unrelated. It was that we were talking about the net signing Kyrie Irving. Who I admitted that, that would be a part of me excited about the idea that an elite player came to the nets when the biggest name free agent. They've ever added is a long zone morning and Orman Gilliam like that matter of the Mets have added some big time free agents. Some have were actually most have not worked criticized the Mets for one thing. Most of most of them have not, that's why I say this confidently and it's true as much as some fans, may not want to admit it. Carlos BELTRAN was the best free agent signing his name now to disagree with it. Let's go to Harvey and Dix hills. Are you? You both hobby, yo you know, I didn't get a chance Joe briefly around Memorial Day. I know you're proud of all the service, and we all I get a chance to wish you nice holiday both of you. Appreciate it very much with, with the father. Yes, I know that I know the feeling. So anyway, Evan what you said the other day about Keno. When when a tray to place, I got killed on it, and going through this whole deal. The number one training, canot was in my opinion, not only could turn out to be one of the worst. It it could be it probably will be one of the worst namely. There's so many different issues, and so many different levels, you know, investing that kind of money in a thirty six year old player, number one, that's, that's really the least of it the linked to this contract at kill this Metzer for five years. And at the time I remember, I said, I said, exactly what was going on here. The, the Mets had levers, I still to this day. Don't understand how the Mets have leverage Seattle couldn't wait to get rid of that contract. Nobody major league baseball take on contract. And then on top of it, they threw out. They gave them three of their of their to at least two of their best prospects just to even up the payroll. That's what Jeff wilpon said he's proud of it. I still to this day. Don't understand it. I know he's going to it's going to convince me. That the wilpon strewn those prospects I believe that they threw it in just to even the money and I and the second thing I want to ask you that I'm sorry. I don't wanna barris anybody. But there was a, there was a gentleman who didn't know how many there was a trivia contest said they want, I think, in they asked him, how many world champions of Demetz. We brought this up. Yeah, but I must tell you, I'm gonna ask you a trivia contest. How many world champions, they think the Mets are going to have in two thousand twenty two thousand and twenty nine you tell me. And. Yeah. He goes the next World Series, they're going to be in his twenty thirty one. Oh my God. I told you that. That's the one because you've got to look at the years, you know. There's only four years between sixty nine and seventy three and then it starts, then you had thirteen years between seventy three and eighty six right? Fourteen years between eighty six thousand then you had fifteen years. In two thousand fifteen. So now it's gonna be sixteen which puts between fifteen which puts us at twenty thirty one okay? They do. Already seen two World Series to win now brought into. Views the goal. Yeah. Okay. So, you'll be seven forty seven dead. You may be dead. But, you know, that's the positive. It's never know if I'm alive. I'll be seventy seven. Yeah. That's that is very depressing. Easing answered very difficult to be confident. Honestly, it's unless you're a Yankee fan. I don't know if his any fan base that would confidently say they're going to watch their team when a title in the next fifteen years. The Red Sox probably in this town. We'll see because they've seen it every. Right. Right. But the next team would probably be the giants. I don't know if the giants they lied to me. Fifteen years, you know, may maybe the ranger fan isn't no fan is well, I feel good about J Dido and the second pick in the draft. Good about attack feel good about the net to win anytime soon. It's very different than thinking might teams rowing champion, right? Let's go to Bob in Oakland. New jersey. Our you guys. How you doing? What's up? Hey, I'm here. Here's what I gotta say. A Barrett is totally overrated. I mean the guy you know everyone's criticizing like I ion like three point cheering. You know he shot thirty four percent and thirty one. I total chucker and it's just like he's a volume. I always third. Oh, no. He's not necessarily that they're picking the Knicks not just a disaster. Because then you at least get to Moran is unbelievable. I mean he's he's he shot thirty eight percent. I mean this guy is like another world. The only thing is we don't really know what Barry, it's going to be on the next level. I mean my wrong he's playing one year in college. Now I saw him play for four years where where would have a better feel for the guy. I don't know what he's going to be. Nobody knows what he's going to be. Well, I'll tell you something sort of funny. So last night, the man who got the most attention was Pascale Siaca the story. Come went to New Mexico state. He went from three in his entire college career, he made three three he was three for seventeen in his first year in the NBA never really attempted to three and a second year in the NBA last year. He shot twenty two percent this past year, his third year in the NBA after all of what I just told you. Pasquale Siaka shot. Thirty seven percent from three ago guys can grow guys can get better. And that goes with anybody, you draft, they can have the talent they need to have the talent. But then it's about can you get better and Siachen. Let him be a guy. You look at from last night, like I said the difference. He what he's become book, if the Knicks picked Barrett. I don't know what he's going to turn out to be. But I am confident in saying is if the Knicks trade Barrett, he's going to be a saw. The Knicks trade Barry. He's going to be wherever you go on. I don't know what the other two guys. I don't know what they're going to turn out to be. But I am confident saying that if they make that trade Barrett will turn out to be a stop, but he can be a star as long as those two guys also become stars negro K. Sure then you live. It's, it's funny, which I'm not counting on Atlanta Dallas. Let's look at them. So last year, the Atlanta Hawks, traded, basically, the right draft Luca. Danni catch. Right. Young young. And they've got this extra pack, what that guy becomes along with the development of trae young, how much is that based on what Luca becomes I think becomes VP player, but trae young becomes a perennial all star and the other guy becomes a perennial all star. How do you look at that trade in this way, I look at it if is Luca winning championships, as the lead guy for them, you know what I mean, Trey young, you know, again, because it's Atlanta, I'll keep using Dominique Wilkins. I mean does he we'd comes tremendous hall of fame player, but he's not a championship. Right. Wins and losses what your course? But that's the point. It's not just one sided here like Ozzy. Woodbridge is a big hawks fan would call up a lot. All my guy, we traded Lukin don't always tell them, we got trae young and you're gonna get another battery pick. Let's see what that guy becomes trade his yet. Now who would I rather be as an independent? Observer, I'll be honest with you. I'd rather be the Dallas Mavericks. I think Lucas better. Any already is. But that's just. I don't know who lane is gonna take with that, right. Anybody who maybe your pick based on whenever they decided to do. RJ RJ Barrett. Mike in Westchester Mike. Hey guys how good. Okay. And I'm looking at this year. Has almost like a mulligan. Brodie. That he was saddled with Gareth contract. Saddled with Frazier's contract. With his contract. Unfortunately right now. Clears up those contracts, then we're going to see what kind of he can make GM only because you have room. Bringing some players to young players. Now you mentioned before, and I'm not sure that pretty decent young nucleus with Alonzo. Dom smith. Gigi Davis as as, as not like a star. But right, twenty six still young. You're right. I'm like, yeah, I'm disappointed in the way to go and so far. It's not over yet. But I'm almost like say, okay, Brody now clear, outstandings guys, guys, Mike, Mike. I get your point that he inherited some bad contracts. But who gave Jairus familia eleven million dollars for twenty twenty and eleven million dollars for twenty twenty one who gave that gentleman that money Brodie who signed Jen, Larry to a two year, twenty million dollar deal who took on Robinson Kino's contract who signed Wilson romo's, where he's going to make nine million dollars next year. I'm not ripping all those moves. I'm merely pointing out of your in one breath gonna say he inherited all these contracts look contract. Right. So I'm not giving. Brody kind of mulligan. I'm sorry. He tried to win this year. When you sign Wilson Rama's, well, and you take on Kono's contract, you signed jet lower you trying to win right now on thing I will say, no matter what Brody is going to be back as GM next year. So that's. It's gonna be back. I'm not suggesting you should be fired. I'm suggesting I'm not giving him a moment. Right. Right. I'm gonna rip lament. We all should Tony in Middletown Delaware. Tony our you. In your billboards all over. My billboards. Yeah. Eat clean, bro. Bro. Okay. Anyway. But you man. Hear anyone talking about the Aubrey. Dawkins who I really like I don't know much about him. Tell me more. Oh, wow. Okay..

"Can't start using it. Now as we were talking about earlier in our pre show meeting injuries. Don't matter anymore. You can't use the business excuse in. They're about to get clobbered with the loss of Michael Conforto. And it couldn't be worse timing wise because the guy finally finally starts to tear the cover of the ball. And then he runs into Robinson co shoulder looked like it looked like it was thrown a the Thrilla in Manila already hit his chin. I'll tell you what, you know, you're going to Miami, and you can take care of business against all that. But if there's one. The Yankees of proven at least this year and as even more of a kick in the pants to the Mets injuries. All matter. You better just keep going. You can't bring up death. And like I said, I hate comparing the keys to the Mets as a Mets fan. I don't like that. I think a lot of times it's on fair. But in this way, I don't think it is, you know, you're going to now see what the Mets really are made of here. And when death was the priority this off season when they could assign more expensive players. They decided to go with depth. That's we were sold the a minus team or the one team team. Whatever you wanna call it that they were going to be stronger. And there was going to be holes in this lineup and I'm just not sure about, overcoming the injury to Conforto expecting from Carlos Gomez. I'm not gonna lie. But when we talk about okay, well, the Yankees have overcome so you can't use it as an excuse. The first place. We look at the general manager Cashman, right? Look at the job that he's done the right and boo. And look at what he's brought. Licata develop their players, then you look on the other side, we were sold a Bill, the goods jailer, who's gonna be, you know, somebody that was going to help this team. He hasn't even reached affiliate canot. You know we had hit yesterday, but then he has his hasn't come to live. Rommel's hasn't been able to really live up to the, and he's not catching well and hidden. Well, so they, we have to point the finger to me Brodie who sold us that come get us. And it looks like a lot of teams of taking challenge. And right now, the fact that Mickey Callaway is on the top and block. We kind of knew we saw that Riggleman was brought in. But before you start pointing, hey, look over here with this guy's not do it, sometimes, you know, maybe Brody niece appoint the thumb at itself. And you came out and he had had to swear that was cool. What happens out the you make those statements, you say, come get us you go on you. Sign these older guys in free agency, instead of building a young team, which is how every other team in the league does it now. That's why we see so many people in camp, jobless or not Cam, jobless this year. But we see so many. Still left out there, because the analytic say that, you know, maybe you're not going to get the bang for your buck. We have to start pointing at the at the to me at the front office. Yes. Exactly. Well, honestly, I would like to it's funny you were talking about this yesterday with rage, Bart Scott when it comes to Christopher Johnson. We're talking about him yesterday. The idea of guys you have to bear with me here. I'm new at this. This is not gonna fly with Brody and not after Guetta. No. And, and I understand that he's the first time front office guy, let alone general manager, and he's got all of these guys around him to help out. But when I was there last Friday. One thing that you definitely get the sense of and talking to different people is that Brody was really getting that first dose of, what a bad streak and stretch can be like, you know, I think earlier in the year was all smiles, obviously offseason, it was all smiles. They didn't have any major injuries really up until yesterday, only a couple here and there certainly nothing like the AKIs and you can't point to the things that they would wanna point to and say, well, this is happening. And this is happening. What we're all the emphasis for Brody in the off season. Well, it's not just going to be our starters. It's gonna be our guys who are not, you know, level guys who are one a or, or be or two guys we're going to have that depth. Well, the brought in for death haven't been very good. Braxton might be counting the hours, literally that he's still on the team. You can't point to these more opportunity. Doc about from seven for forty nine point just finish. The thought Brodie is that yeah. This is the first bad stretch. Be out in front of it, and he'll talk later today about all the injuries and stuff. But he had kind of backed away from it just a little bit. Maybe wasn't as. Camera present as he had been when things were going. Okay. And I'm not saying that he's backing away from it all together. It's just now you're really seeing what it's like to be in the depths of this to be fair, though to Brody. Right. He did when he did take the job. He did say an acknowledged that he's gonna need help. Any did say acknowledge that he's putting good people around him. And they wanna make good decisions as a group. And I think that's great. But the come get us is something that lingers, you can't say that because you can't say it, and it wasn't just come get us another interview with Mike, worry said, well, look around who's going to beat us, and the division, while it turns out, the is probably not as good as we thought it was going to be. And if the nationals, keep trending the way they're trending they could be at a fire sale, which we'll talk about later when it comes to the keys. But there is something about if you were gonna come out that strong, then to have a team now that looks like they're really at a crossroads here. That's never what you. Wanna feel like when you are Mets fan because far too often the crossroads has been down a negative path and you can't have another June where you're five and twenty one like last year, and it just feels like I'm not predicting that in any way. I don't want that to happen anyway. But just feels like it's just coming at a bad time. So all right. You have the Marlins and you have digress tonight. You have Syndergaard to finish out the series and then you have the Tigers. And then after that the schedule actually it's pretty tough. So I think that we're going to learn a lot about the Mets and the next couple in the next couple of weeks, but you can't use injuries as an excuse because you're looking across town at a team that had what's, what was the last count. Seventeen guys on the isle wasn't eighteen at this point. And they are ten games over five hundred. So that's where you don't wanna hear it as a Mets fan and Michael Conforto making up for his loss of production. Listen, I got on them because it was like, hey man win a game once in a while all the men. Metrics and the analytics point to him as being their best position player. So it's going to be very difficult to make up for his production. And I it's more like I worry for the team. Not, not, not so much like I worry that they're not going to be able to hold the fort. I worry that they're not gonna be able to take advantage of what this is that. It's two weeks. Ever do that. No. But I mean when you have the schedule that you do. Well they can beat the Marlins. That's the only team they'd be you have to nets you got the Tigers after that third still should be good. Enough pitching wise day still should be good enough to win. You know, to go over a stretch of fifteen games where they could go ten and five pitching. I'm sorry. Pitching like these are the, the head-scratching things Mets fans go through when Wilbur font is playing yesterday. You have your apartment and then whaler gives a four in the first. Yeah, we'll settled eventually and Conforto bail about and Canova them out and to tie that game. But he'll fought going against the nationals when you could have them going is the Marlins. You know, I don't understand why Peter Lonzo sits against the nationals seven city gets the Marlins, and I want, I want the Mets, too. I'm glad they expanded their analytics department. I want them to be relying on that more, because I think that's where baseball not only is headed it's here and they were late to the party as opposed to everyone else and major league baseball. But at some points, it's just head-scratching. Why you do that? There you go. I mean I don't I don't understand either. Why, why Pete Alonzo's Dom Smith had been performing coming off the bench, but he also van yesterday. But why, why wait I think they're so that they can sneak some wins in the same way that you're looking at the nets out the same way the natural looking at you. Let's get right against a met. And this is a run where they gotta try get fat because this does get diff- difficult. I get concerned with Jeff McNeil in the strain of leaks. Now, you losing, Jeff McNeil yards thin out there and you lose you lose Conforto. Hey, by the way, four hernia surgeries. Is that a lot that, that is a lot? I've heard of too, because users like one-sided, and sometimes the left side at forward but said they descended maybe scar tissue, sometimes scar tissue in pots, and then it can just be playing for a little bit. You know, it's weird because this oblique thing, but, you know, I don't think it's where he thinks he needs to have another scope. Because if you had to have another scope, it'd be something different. Yeah. About it. So he's saying pretty comfortable with it like, you know, maybe just a tweak or some scar tissue loosening up oblique injuries. When it comes to baseball player, actually, any athlete, always makes me a little concern. He said he said it happened before early the season. And he took a day off the was fine. So maybe something like that. And that's something that you would if anything if he should know by now. If you've had four you know, there's something wrong. So who's most two point right now for the Mets mediocrity through these forty two games even after losing Conforto yesterday? Mickey Callaway, Brodie van wagon that's going to be our poll at WFAN over on Twitter one twelve CNBC, we roll calls next eve Gallup's later in the Alor. "Details. Turning-point contests. You'll have a chance to win. Some Yankee tickets as the Yankees do get victory last night against the Detroit. Tigers the Mets got a victory last night against the Miami Marlins and a game in which they didn't exactly play well to put it nicely led by JD Davis is defense and actually started with Wilson Ramos his defense right out of the gate. Stephen match strikes out Miguel row Haas. He's off to a great start and Rama's that his best travel. Start L invitation. I gotta tell you. I'm watching the game game. And my my lovely wife. Terry, of course, watching the game. We'll be and I said strikes. What's going on goes? He struck out. He's a yeah. But he didn't catch the ball back. He gets first base because you got to catch the ball to complete the strike out. She goes oh. And I go I guarantee, and I said to my wife, guaranteed write it down down you right now. I hope I'm wrong. They will this will cost them run. At least no doubt, bingo to outlaid is stalling Castro. It's one to moon and it costs them to runs. No doubt. And you knew that when JD Davis gets a tailor made double play, and for whatever reason just lollipops. You got away with it. The first time got away with it. The first time did not get away with it. The second time. No, they didn't play a good game. They played a sloppy. And also right after that the garrison on that in that same inning has the guy dead to rights at third base and similar to the situation with Sanchez and Torres. Perfect one hot throw Davis doesn't catch the ball. Yeah. And that costs them around. I got a big problem with officials scores. I mean. Sanchez, Gary and the Yankees, you know. No question about it. But they gave it to the throw even though both rose, we're fine. But here's the good news. When you play the Miami Marlins case when you play the Tigers teams that are going nowhere fast. You can sometimes overcome your mistakes and the Mets were able to do that. And the stunning thing to me was one the garrison again game-tying home opposite field. No less right right field. So that was sort of stunning. The thing that sort of bothered me. I'm curious what you thought about this in the ninth inning with the game tied. They get a leadoff off. That's right. Shit. He's been good so far. And that's great to see you tired through the shift that way ground ball down a little bit of left a second base. It's a beautiful thing. So Dom Smith. He's done everything you could ask for indeed. While not starting a game tonight. Right. Comes through with the base hit. And then you've got Mickey Callaway asking lagaras to bond with two strikes on we'll know that he did on his own. Oh is that true? Della Calloway said, yes, we can blame the garrison. But I gotta tell you. I even like bunting to begin with the garrison a great header, but I don't wanna give away an out to put a run around second out, especially the way Nimmo was swinging a bat right now. I mean, I'm always strikeout machine. That's the guy. See when they at first and second, nobody. And you're right. And I never loved bunting that much, but in that spot after that crazy play we'll Gareth's gets hit trying to but it was very close by to. Well, sure. I mean, it sounded like eight the bat whatever the Mets got the call. They even reviewed yada, yada. And they got it. They got a break on it. But I'm like, are you kidding me? Nimmo strokes struck out like ten times already this year. And you're not bunting with nemo here. He's the guy stunned and he struck out and just even more. So than the way guys are performing. Because obviously, you're right nimmo's been strike out. All the time. Lagaras got the game being times last night, though, they weren't facing max Scherzer Strasbourg anymore and the facing Caleb Smith, and Nick Anderson and Tyler Kinley, whoever they were drew second riot guys like that. But just situational run around. I nobody at I love giving away and out. Yeah. First and second nobody out. I get it. You could advanced guys to second and third. They're not gonna walk. We're sorry to Lonzo. Right. You're giving a research opportunity but much like. Last year during the twelve game run the Mets had I remember this about last year. I felt Mickey Callaway risk ruing up constantly. But the vets were overcoming it every time. I I completely agree. It feels the same way. I agree. Like Mickey Callaway. Terrible matter. Yes. Yes. And the metro overcoming it. So there's going to be a portion of met fans at say Joe Evan shut up a winning team was Riggleman manager Riggleman. Terrible. Combination of is not getting it done even only on three and one like you said, they're overcoming the band manager. Eventually you don't. Eventually you don't now do I think this team should be better than last year's team. Yes. Yes. I do. Yes. They team. Yes. They got a lot of young guys on his team. Idea. The Mets are a young team. I mean, I mean outside is really Robbie canot. This is a young team. We'll look at yesterday's game. Look at who played for the New York Mets. She's not young Rommel romo's isn't young. But he's also not a diagnosis, right? Got to wait yesterday. Although he did it into a big double play, or at least it looked like it was a big double play at the time. I used to that Rambos fell on the ground with guys. It's a double player but outside a casino. JD Davis is relatively young macneil macneil that young but from an experienced. Twenty to twenty five right now. He's twenty seven is. He that. He's you know, he's not thirty five. No, you're right. He's youngest just not Lonzo, obviously is what he's twenty three twenty four whatever he is always young young team. Always Yongqing Ford always still young their young younger than I think we give them credit. Yes. A lot of that is because the older guys are hurt. Chet. Larry on Fraser, says producer. All right. And that's the fun thing about this team. They are deep team. Yeah. That was even saying saying this to you before the show Dom Smith has earned a start. Now that doesn't mean I would sit Alonzo. It just means I would tell Brandon Nimmo you get another off day and we're going to stick Dom Smith in the outfield because even though Dom Smith is not an outfielder. I get it. He's a better defensive first baseman Alonzo Dom Smith has earned a start that guy is done everything you could ask for over the first four games of the season. He's hitting against the shift. He's drawing walks. He plays. Good defensive span. I don't want to sit Alonzo because obviously less ninetieths that bomb of a three lonzo's gotta play. So I wanna play him absolute. Got to play you. And I I agree with you. And I talked about this off the air. I'm a hundred percent with you wanted to guys. I want to see in the lineup every day, and that's McNeil and Alonzo no doubt every day. Yeah. Yeah. And I think Robbie Kenosha judicial giving them a couple off and Robbie's, you know, he has a look great at the plate. He had a solid opening day. You got a couple of hits on Sunday. But he struck out like three or four times last night. He hasn't gotten off to a great start. He was over five yesterday. Four strikeouts at a bunt groundout right in which he was not moving very quickly after that. But now thinking Ravi, boy, you really have to push that the no man's land to beat it out. But it's weird to think that the Mets right now are without Todd Frazier without jed Lowrie, and they've got a lot of guys. We're we're debating who should play shouldn't play. They are deep team. I thought Stephen match pitched a quality game. Yeah. He was he was solid. Thanks to help him. He was solid and Edwin DS gave us here. First adventure, hold the basis with nobody album blue and then strike out. The next guy comes into non save situation in how often do we see that kind of stuff happened? Although we as met fans are well versed in the cringe-worthy ninth inning. Oh, we're experts. We've been through a war start listing guys. Without of course, you know, aroldis Chapman. I think through fewer pitches than Edwin has put guys on base yesterday and say right now that was the other thing that annoyed me why go to him in a non save situation. Why I think you want to save your bullets the Mets play today? They play tomorrow. Woman his elminating a game of runs into trouble. And you go to be s right? So I didn't think that that was a great move either. But the Mets won and they're off to a nice start to three. And I tweeted this earlier, and I really feel this way in three and one is out eleven and one. But no matter how well the Mets play over the first month. I'll be happy. But I am very cautious. Fifteen games over five hundred at the trade deadline. I'll feel better. Yeah. Exactly. Then I'll say, okay, we don't have to worry about eleven and one. Yeah. I don't know what the line is. I don't know if it's the all-star break. I don't know if it's earlier, I don't know if it's just a fun all star break, I'm gonna say that feeling though, right? Me trade deadline, but you all star game if they're fifteen games over five hundred. I think we're all feeling pretty good and you'll feel better right, but good for Pete Alonzo. He's off to a great start. What I loved about yesterday's. He starts his performance over for four strikes out a couple of times and then in the ninth inning. He it's that bomb guy. The home field. What's his name? Grayson. Yeah. He didn't even move bothered long gone. I'm thinking that on opening day Thursday unless crazy things happen over the next two year. Today's pita Lonzo will get the second. Biggest ovation by Jacob degrom. Yeah. He's gonna get opening day. Here's the garrison. We're live. We got MLB network on to right field. No two. Oh fastball. And went the other way too big hits over the last days, the game-tying here, and obviously the game tying home run and Alonzo's bomb. We're just seeing it. You miss that? Ugly sculpture, you know, I I I was gonna say I do miss it. What why who said it was it, Gary? Gary said he misses. Yeah. Because it's so Miami about that. But it is. Yeah. Pathetic. Okay. Fine. It's miami. All right. That's okay. There all the Yankees. We Geeta Asada. I mean, it's unbelievable. Who else were they got his Yankees all over the place, and you wanna say stall gastro he wasn't Yankee too long. There's also bunch of Mets their Curtis Granderson. Guy. Forget that. I forgot about that ran this. Yes. Neil walker. Yes. Starling castro. Both got it. A game psycho dead. Yeah. Derrick jeeter, episodic Mattingly and Caleb. Smith Gallup's me pitch for the Yankees tone count him. Niagara county funny. Funny. They show upstairs in the booth where the owners box or whatever it is jeeter episodic..

"Mets for the post. That Mickey Calloway said he's putting a considerable thought into how he might divide up first base if both Alonzo Dom Smith on the opening day roster, and I gotta tell you as we get closer to opening day eight days away, I'm ecstatic the real opening day when the Yankees and Mets play. I'm so fascinated what the heck they're going to do with Lonzo. Because logic would tell you, and it's not just met logic. It's baseball logic logic. We tell you Pete Alonzo's going to AAA. It's a lousy tells you yes. But on the other side baseball, I wouldn't say the Mets. They all do it. You're right now, you're not wrong. This is one of those cases I was going to be fair with the Mets. I think they should rip when they deserve. Which is a lot. Yeah. Well, this one is there. They'd almost. Yeah. You you're right everybody. Does it? You're right with the time. Lonzo made the team. They're the crime. They're the outlier now. You're right. That's true. So I am fascinated to know what is Brody going to do is he going to be a man of his work because we're about to learn a lot about Brody van wagon. And we've seen his off season. He talks a lot. And I like some of it some of it's like all right just for show. But one of the things he has said is the best guys are going to make this team. I think it's obvious Pilon does one of the best guys. He deserves obviously as good as Dom Smith has been. No, I agree with you on a per se. Both deserves to be on that. I just got no confidence in Don. Smith good. He's been in spring training. Okay. Very little. I understand that. I think he deserves a second chance arguments second chance, but I it I don't have a lot of confidence. So let me ask you. This is Peter they're going to really make the team. I don't know. Guess we're gonna find out. Do you think though because you're skeptical? I don't think he's going to be okay. Because it'd because it serves who'd you be let me would you be quote stunned if he's on the team, I wouldn't use the word stunned the surprise you. Be kind of amazing. And in a way, it's smart ends done at the same time. So it's dumb because you're giving away your service time. It's Tom, right. But he's smart in that if you're the wilpon, and you get beat up all the time by guys like me and you by fans. You shut us up a little bit cheap. Right. There were small, and it doesn't really cost you anything. No. I mean, it's not like sign Bryce Harper. But again, it is a money issue at this time. They went the other way on right? I understand you disagree or service time you save for those huge mega prospects. Like the Vlad juniors. Like, you said Brian earlier like the prospect was super prospect, don't you have to figure out what he is immediately Novi good now instead of worrying about six years supercross, saying isn't necessarily wrong. I'm not saying he's as highly regarded as Eli Jimenez who's been sent down by the White Sox or anybody else. But he is a significant prostate. He's a good prospect. Yeah. But I'm just saying I understand when you wait on Vlad junior because junior if he's what they say is he's gonna be a thirty year player. Right. We don't know what Alonso is yet. But you don't think that the Mets of all teams being the team? It says we don't care. He deserved it. He's gonna find out right now what he is doing. I don't know. Maybe I'm just giving obvious apprised. We'll see you'll be surprised if he makes it. Yes. Not shock. But surprised how hope he does. I think it sends a great message. And you know, what I look at it this way if Peter Lonzo becomes a star day should be residing in any way. They should be locking up law him longterm. Anyway, right. So why should it matter? If you're a big market team that wants to keep good players you'd be signing him. Anyway. Anyhow. Let's go to our in the Bronx, art. Hey, how about that? There you go out that. Let's all the way I love that. Couldn't believe it. Wow. Did you did you stay? About my or four packets. I got all these six five before I got a c seen right? Yeah. Virginia's largest state. I've got Duke beating Florida state and UNC beating Virginian semis. Right. The final right. The dream championship game, which will be Duke Carolina. I wouldn't that be amazed at all for ECC teams working on my bracket today. And the only thing I've come up with is I've come up that Virginia's gonna win the national championship. And I'm still working through some of the only time even had three was eighty five when all the three big east teams, we beat Georgetown, and Saint John's made it the other thing, I'm gonna do your team was Memphis. Memphis state at the time. The other thing I'm gonna do strategy wise. I'm not having to make the final four. You don't know who's beat him. I think I'm going to Michigan state your, okay? Too. Because I think everybody's gonna pick. Everybody's gonna pick. The so you'll get a big warning. They get knocked off. Yes. Kyle and Westhaven Kyle. How are you? Good. Thanks. I actually I also took Michigan state. But I I I was actually calling Evan. I agree with you ninety nine point nine nine percent of the time. But here's a time where you need the D H. You're you're you're having to guys split time at first base when you could have them both develop fully and get onto sixty two games. Now, we're only what half of them can do what it's coming. I understand the Mets have benefit from the D H mica argue that, but that's you pro D H or something. Or are you anti pro? I I'm a I'm a Yankee fan. I'm a baseball fan. Okay. When I'm just saying, I would rather see Pete Alonso and Smith each play on hundred fifty games at any position and get it bad Jakup the ground. Look first of all Jacob degrom. So good hair. Wheeler away. Hit was a terrific syndergaards are good hitter. He is. I get worse. Too much defenses though. He does he at that bomb. Dodgers did. That's right. He did. Yeah. I understand what you're saying with the Mets life be easier. If they added the H not just now, but long-term with Ravi can. Oh, yes. But that's a relevant to me. We're talking about the strategy of baseball the rules of baseball. The history of baseball the way I like the game being played. I don't want to bake. Myself that in fact, it's coming. So I mean, you have to accept it. But I'm going to have to accept it. When is here, but it's not here yet. So I can't worry about it. Now. You know what I mean? That's how I look at fighter. You'll just accept. Alabama final that a lot of things. But I mean, you know, there's other there's other things I read a fight about the knack because it does as as said and he's right. He really does benefit the Mets. Yeah. But that's. Play the field turn it's cyclical fits the Mets today. But does it really benefit them ten years from now? I mean, it's right now. And you know, I don't know. I don't know. I'll give you this when the DA's comes. And it's what are you gonna do? Of course, a Venturi I'm going to accept it. But right now, I don't want to accept well. I'm not accepting it now, it's not happening, except the, you know, you said, hi. Yeah. Reconcile that it will happen. We'll have accepted Adam gates. Eventually, right. Did we screaming Alabama? Wow. Yeah. I didn't want him. Okay. I know he's going to be better than balls. But that's not saying anything. Do you want the age? No. But you're not pass. It doesn't bother me as much as as certain guys on my team or the coach in my team. It's not the same. You know what I mean? Really doesn't affect it as much in the short term you right? But in the long term, it affects them more because it's the future of the game. I understand I understand. We win a world's if our team was the World Series in our D H as World Series. Are we gonna really care? But that's because it's already been put in it doesn't bother me as much as moves made for my next year when the D H is in place if that happened that no it's not. But if it happened, I won't bring it up anymore. You won't be next year. But until then you damn right? I'm going to okay. Beningo and Roberts coming back. Are you ready? Got your grad your ten, Greg..

"He is producing tonight counter. Green is on the board. Mike McCann is on the updates. I will be with you for four hours until two a m. Good lord. There's so much to do. And so much to talk about fantastic. Guests at Coleman's gonna join me. Coming up later this hour. I wanna talk about the Mets that Tom Seaver statue, potentially Mets strain training on that. Then art Stapleton of the records going to join me on the giants trading. Olivier Vernon and giants free agency coming up in the later on in the program Andy Vasquez from the record on the jets and their free agency and their trade. I didn't take the jets for making a trade today as booking guests with. I've thought it was going to be about the giants this weekend at the trade. And then the jets boom late Sunday, they pop and trade to so we'll talk about that you heard Mike McCann mentioning it. And then I think this is a tree if you're a baseball fan certainly a Yankee fan, but also a baseball fan Mark Simon from sports info solutions baseball info solutions. He's going to join me is the author of a book book of the Yankee index which is about numbers in history and the Yankees, but beyond that working for baseball info solutions for people who wonder with analytics and one importance of certain statistics Tuesday game, and why that's relevant. We're having a conversation about the Yankees and certain Yankee players, whether that's Gary Sanchez gleyber Torres the rotation where they have a conversation about that in which the testing matter. Plus, I'm also curious. If all of us a lot of us saw the movie moneyball, or maybe you read the book moneyball, and there are people who took away from that the concept of somehow that moneyball was about on base percentage. And that's not what moneyball was about money. Ball was about eighty one alive. You may know this as well moneyball is about finding an area an undervalued. Asset to tap into in the game. What is undervalued? And you get there. First before other teams get there, you tap into that and uncover that value extract that value for your team. At a at a lower cost, and that gives you a hidden advantage before everybody else coins and catches up in today's major league baseball where so many front offices now are driven. What are the next moneyball types of of statistics or areas of the game that the most savvy front offices are exploiting? I'm curious about that. So that's all coming up. I'm excited about that conversation. That'll be the twelve o'clock hour after the twelve twenty updates. So stay tuned. Join me for that one. If you have some more statistically driven or baseball conversations like that. We will hit me up on Twitter at L Rubinsohn. And if there's one that pops off the page, I will get to that as well. All right. Topics for you to call it on. That's always how we start the show. Certainly you wanna talk about the giants and jets trades that happened this weekend. Your grades on those trades and your opinions on them. We've got free agency pending studio. It's now ten o'clock on a Sunday. Well, tomorrow everybody Monday, it's NFL free agent tampering legal tampering period, which is a bizarre concept Hoover heard of legal tampering. But but there is such a thing if you're in the NFL so Monday at four starts legal tampering period where teams can start to talk to players and start talking about money and deals and things like that. But they cannot sign anybody no contract signed free agency officially starts on Wednesday. Two days later on Wednesday at four PM. The jets sitting on second most cap space salary cap space of any team in the NFL. Indianapolis Colts dab bless their general metro Chris Ballard did a fantastic job. But their cap colts our first. In caps base. Jets are second. So jets are sitting right up there in tons of cap space can be a real player in free agency. How are they gonna spend that money? What's Mike maccagnan gonna do? What are the priorities? Call in about that that to me is a fascinating topic. Giants and jets free agency, and these trades. And then of course, spring training. Yankees. And mets. What are we seeing? The Yankees bullpen every time. I tuned into Monte Yankee spring training. I mean, I don't know. Marching today. Or actually I wasn't watching today. I was annoyed. I was listening today to WFAN. I was annoyed. I couldn't watch it on televised. But I'm listening today. And so whether it's Adam out of vino or Tommy Tommy keenly may not even make the Yankees bullpen, which is insanity. When you have the Hyon arms competing guy like Quesnel competing for for the scraps. In the Yankees bullpen Yankees bullpen as an opportunity to be the best ever insane bullpen. But anyway. We'll talk about Yankees spring training. You might call in on that and met spring training. Mets went off today and give you a little taste a little smooch of what that offense could look like. Of course, the Mets first base battle is a really interesting topic. That's one that I'll bring up with Coleman Pete Alonzo Dom Smith both playing very very well this spring, and what's going to happen there. So we'll talk about that. And that's the topic to call in on and two others that I think have been big stories not just locally. But also a big story that not just locally, but also nationally. One this James Dolan thing. Normally, I don't like to get into. A lot of ways. Like what's the point of talking about ownership because of a team? I know the fans around here fans not happy for years with islanders ownership. Before that team was sold teams. Obviously fans not happy with Mets ownership fans currently fans, not particularly happy with the nets ownership and certainly next fans not happy with Nick's. Team ownership team still. Normally it's in some ways a futile conversation because like what are you gonna do is it really going to change anything? But if you haven't watched that video of James Dolan talking to the fan, and what's out there right now. It just makes no sense. How he's handling this. A fan. Saying to saying to James Dolan sell the team and as Dolan's walking out of the out of the arena out of MSG and Dolan saying to the fan. Do you really think I should sell the team that's rude? And the fan saying, it's an opinion and Dolan saying, no, it's not an opinion. And you know, what enjoy watching them on TV and the fan, essentially, then they get security on the guy and escort him out. I don't understand something like that. How that's different. Then a crowd booing player or when Knicks fans through the years or fans can't fire the coach, and certainly fans do that people pay their money, they pay good money. They get to the arena and as long as they are not obscene or violent. I've sat in the middle of. Arenas and stadiums. And in situations, quite frankly with opposing fan bases in a stadium. Where men in particular have been drinking and felt uncomfortable. There's aggressive behavior you go to a Yankees Red Sox game, and you get to around the seventh inning or so and there and and guys have been piling up beers. Frankly, I'm backing away from some of those conversations and guys who can make you uncomfortable. Quite frankly. Thirty years you've got to Philadelphia and you're gonna Phillies game and wear a Mets jersey half the time people getting card away for that. I understand there's a lot of stuff that can make you uncomfortable. Stadiums. And. Ballparks and arenas and all of this. But when somebody. Says if you haven't heard this video it's pretty mild mannered guy, like it's actually surprisingly even killed. I was expecting that. The guy was before I saw the video the guy was going to be drunk rude, cursing, something just simply says in a voice that kind of sounds like this like he says sell the team sell the team. That sounds so offensive sell the team. Because I could tell you, my friend says actually tweeted something out earlier that. Was was dead on was correct. He basically said if you are a celebrity of any kind any kind whether that's broadcasting and owner a player, and after this matter celebrity of any kind if you have any sort of notoriety. You're living in some way in the public eye. You can't win. If you get into a. A public argument of battle with fans. Is this is not gonna go well for you. And you either have to ignore it. When somebody makes a comment, you don't like you can make a joke about it to try and defuse it or you can be sincere. If somebody says something that's a critique like, hey, sorry. You feel that way? And. So you can joke you could kind of have fun with it. Somebody digs at you. You can give a little fun back. But you can't let it get under your skin to this level. Because what you do is give that person more than their fifteen minutes of fame. You make the story you perpetuate it you put it out into the news cycle. And ultimately, you're the one who looks bad. So I work I do PR work. PR digital marketing work when I'm not sitting here during the rest of the week. And honestly. I feel like James Dolan. If you wanna call me, you won't have a conversation about how to handle these situations. I'm happy to provide counsel off the record on this. Because it absolutely flummoxed is me how and look the Mets ownership to. That's ownership. You wanna give me a call and how to handle things you don't wait. And I know this is a sensitive subject, but. Why do you wait until it's public? They now that Tom Seaver is stepping out of public life because of dementia. If you're thinking of building a statue to the guy who is. Yeah. Probably the greatest met of all time best player best player of all time. So how'd you if you're planning and thinking, you're considering statue, why not do it when he's able to enjoy when the players able to enjoy it? It makes no sense to me. It seems like such an obvious thing. It's not that hard here. Going gonna do it or not gonna do it. If you're considering then do it right away honor people earlier sooner. We don't know what the future holds health different things. You'll looking Gary Carter was another one that always just made me so sad that Gary Carter. It was announced we found out that unfortunately, he had brain cancer and that two thousand eleven season the Mets could have picked a date anytime in that two thousand eleven season to honor him. And instead they picked opening day twenty twelve and Gary Carter passed away that winter like why wait. You don't wait these things do it. When the person the player, the individual the coach that whoever it is if you're not honor. Somebody don't put it off. So I dunno owners nets owners. Knicks ownership feel free. You want some PR advice? I charge for it. But but I promise given all the negative will the ill-will that you can frequently generate I promise that it would be well worth it in terms of ROI to invest in in an off the record conversation about what to do in these in these situations. And here's a question for you. Also in terms of the call in that I am fascinated by this whole Antonio Brown situation fascinated by and we'll get into this more over the course of the program Antonio Brown. Basically..

"Sixty six WFAN and WFAN FM New York. These spring training battles are hilarious because think about who guys are facing when they're in the spring training battles. Right. So you've got the Yankees were the first base battle. He got the mess with the first base battle who is Dom Smith hitting against who is Greg bird hitting against Luke. Void hitting against. That's why spring training battles per se are very very tough to read. Now, if one guy is clearly outperforming the other guy, and you've determined that you want to make that decision based on spring training that makes it easy. But when you look at the four guys battling for first base jobs in New York. They've all been productive. What are we? We're going to parse numbers in spring training. We're going to say, well, you know, great Burks for a average than Luke. Boy. I mean, they're both hitting they're both performing now. The Yankee first base debate is very very annoying to me because there should. Be a first base debate number one both guys should make the team assuming they're competent. All right. It should not be a choice. Now, Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman have made it clear, it's a choice for only bringing one guy. So right off the top. I inherently disagree with them. I don't think it should be. I think carrying thirteen pitchers is excessive. Now, I think there's more of a case for carrying thirteen pitchers today than there was two weeks ago because of the uncertainty in the rotation and the fact that you're gonna fill out the rotation with guys who you're not as confident is going to go deep in a games the way Luis Severino has put thirteen pitchers is still an awful lot. And I get a big part of why they have to do it is that Louis Sesa is out of options and God forbid, they lose them can't lose Louis Sessa and more. So today because he is going to start the year on the DL because Severino is going to start the year on the DL. Boy, the Yankees could use twenty six men on the roster which will start next year. Probably not this year. But if you're gonna decide between Luke void and Greg bird, and you can tell me all day that Greg birds a lefty and Greg bird fits this lineup more and Greg bird is better defensively. You can give me that all day. Mike counter to that would be last year when Greg bird played baseball and he played half the season. He won ninety nine. That's my counter it eleven home runs. That's fine. Decent pop. He had one ninety nine. You don't care about average. Okay. He had a six seventy two. Oh PS. Let me explain that for those who don't care about it stinks. The guy is a career to fourteen hitter. But he's at thirty one home runs in one hundred and seventy six games fine. He has not stayed healthy. And he hasn't produced in the last two years most of his production came in two thousand fifteen that was four years ago and the postseason in two thousand seventeen I don't want to ignore that. Because that maps hit two home runs in the AL ES against the Indians. I'm not ignoring that he had production in the postseason. That's what Greg bird dead. Now. Luke boy comes over here and hits freaking three thirty three. He had fourteen home runs. He had an old PS near eleven hundred. So ask yourself this question. No matter what Greg bird doesn't spring training to Grado matter. What Luke void doesn't spring training? Lefty righty. Whatever are you really going to take a guy who you traded for last year. He hit three thirty three. He had fourteen home runs and forty games. He is. Actively said my goal is to win a gold glove. Not hit forty home runs. He sang all the right things. You're gonna put that guy in AAA. Really you're going to do that. How how could you do that? Now if Lugovoi plays in April and hits one forty five fine down. I'm not telling you you've got to marry Luke Voy. I'm not saying you've got to make a long term commitment to look void. I'm not suggesting that what I'm suggesting is that how could you possibly send Luke void to AAA based on all of the regular season numbers that Greg bird, and Luke void have shown you over the last year or plus and Greg birds case, it's not a debate. And if it's close at all, even if it wasn't close the decision is, Luke. See what the decided to do. I think the eighties preferred Greg bird because he's a lefty I think they prefer Greg bird because they love Greg bird. But that being a debate is frustrating Alonzo, Dom Smith is a different story. Okay. I- Dom Smith is still easing that. Greg. Berg league of Smith has been given so many opportunities. I don't care what he doesn't spring training. You know, there's nothing Dom Smith is gonna do that's gonna make me believe in them. I'm on at that point with the guy. I think him coming into camp in good shape gives you new hope he still only twenty three years old. And so I think Dom has the edge for two reasons he has the edge from defensive perspective. And I think he has the edge because of the service time situation that involves Peter Lonzo. So I think that's a true debate in both guys have perform opening day with Tanaka. Look, Masahiro Tanaka from an accomplishment standpoint should be the opening day starter for the New York Yankees. But whenever we get into these opening day debates, whether it's what the Yankees or whether it's the Mets it really doesn't matter. Because if I ask you as a Yankee fan who started opening day in two thousand eleven do you remember if I asked you as a met fan Rasco as big met fan he goes to a lot of opening days. I'm going to ask you right now. Rest going are you ready? Sure. All right. Opening day. And look it up two thousand thirteen who started opening day for the New York Mets thousand thirteen opening day New York Mets. Harvey. No, the answer would be Jonathan niece. But that's the point. Who cares? It doesn't matter that right after the big contract. I forget when they signed. And the funny thing is Giannis pitched really well and the Mets won that game. Eleven to two against the San Diego Padres on Monday, April. First two thousand thirteen Giannis pitched six and two thirds innings and only allowed two runs. And then the bullpen of Brandon Lyon, Scott atchison, and Scott rice shut the door after they pounded Edison volquez. You don't remember? That's the point. That's why. Yes, I think Tanaka deserves it I trust Tanaka more than any other Yankee pitcher in a big spot given the baseball assuming he Southie throw them out there. But it's it's it's become such an unmemorable thing. And what's funny is when I was a kid. It was a bigger deal. I don't know. What's happened? Maybe because there are just less aces. Maybe that's the thing. I don't know. It just doesn't seem to matter as much last year's another example Jacob degrom deserve to start opening day last year. He did it because he had a back issue at the beginning of spring training and a pushed him back about a week and that cost them opening day. It doesn't matter. Noah Syndergaard pitched opening day. I said, Luke our I don't even remember who pitch last year. Really, you don't remember that. There was no now. Now, I have vivid memories of it. Because and I expressed my feelings to how I didn't see the wreath. That's how we talked about that last year. The last couple of years, you may maybe you didn't realize this. The Mets have not been in our radio stations family. I don't know if people realize that they run a different radio station, and for that reason we do opening day from Citi field, and we stayed on the air to one. So when the show would end at one I would fly over the city field as fast as I could. And I would miss the first inning and a half to winning. So I would I wouldn't see the repeater. But unlike is it a reef or e af is that what it is. Now, it's a wreath, but W R E H, correct? Okay. Arief is like a barrier. Reef fishing, Carl hang out. I just want to confirm that should be the Twitter poll question. I could ask is it a reef or? I bet you a lot of people will get it wrong. I bet you anyhow. So I had to race over to the game as fast as I legally could. And what I'd never forget from last year is the abomination of what they did to the radio broadcast. They just they completely ruined. How he rose and Josh Lewin broadcast by putting I don't even remember who on and it annoyed me to no end. And so I remember specific like, Noah Syndergaard. But I just remember that first inning and a half because I was so angry that I was dealing with that. And now we don't have to deal with it 'cause opening day, we're broadcasting live from guess where city fail baby. But the opening day thing does it matter. The velocity thing. The velocity thing would Matanzas. It also really doesn't matter. Now, I know that when you see a guy, and here's the funny thing about spring training if Noah Syndergaard is throwing one zero one we freak out. What are you doing? It's spring training. You're throwing tour de LA Matanzas, those eighty eight oh my God. What's he doing? He's not throwing hard enough. What do you want? What's that? Perfect number guys. Get ready for the season in a very different way. You have to hope that if and Matanzas and feeling right? He's gonna say something the way Luis Severino did. So I try not to look at velocity good and bad and read too much into it. When we're in the middle of the season, and maybe not even the first few weeks of the year because don't even said a in may I'll be back to my, you know, my full velocity May June. And you see a number considerably down you start to get a little worried about it. But here in March, I don't worry about much and I've learned that over the years because I love spring training. I was there last week. I was at the game scoring the game. I'm into it. Put a week and a half in when I've already seen enough spring training baseball. I realized that all that matters is getting through this thing in one piece even the numbers. Don't matter. Wilson Ramos and Robbie can on the Mets side or having big camps. Gary Sanchez has done nothing offensively for the Yankees. None of it matters. That's why when we talk about battles for jobs, it's tough to read too much into it. Let alone the veterans do you? Remember rally Banias with the Yankees one Cam. I think he was like one for thirty five something absurd. Just couldn't hit. And by the end of it. We're all saying oh boy. Bagna seventy thing left in his forties. You know, maybe this is it for him is a veteran. Give him a shot and he starts the season red hot. So even with that good and bad. It's getting to opening day in one piece and both the keys in Mets haven't done that. So far Luis Severino is not getting there in one piece. We know that Arad Hicks is now become a question because of the back issue, though, I think they're very hopeful that he'll get there in one piece on the met side if I had to bet right now, I don't think Todd Frazier jet Lowry getting there. I think Jeff McNeil playing third base. Tomorrow is a big indicator of that. So it's really just get to March twenty eighth in one piece more than anything. Because right now, I am at the point. What are we less than three weeks from opening day, which is crazy, especially when you look outside? There's snow everywhere. I'm at the point where I'm just sick of it. Just get to the real stuff giving you the real baseball..

"Sixty six is the phone number hit, the one o'clock CNBC comes your way. Don't Kramer, Ernie Acosta on the other side of the glass. Of course, a big football Friday probably best football weekend in a year with the divisional rounds. Call banks will join us at eleven. It is regular weekly spot. We'll have one of the assistant general managers of the jets will be joining us today, mini meta. He'll join us about the eleven forty and we appreciate the jets given us permission to have many shine. And then we'll do a little baseball as well. With John Hayman. We'll talk about the big met signing Wayne will Manny and Bryce ever signed a contract, bro. Our you. I'm very good because as much as I'm still angry about the jet higher. Michael ownership doesn't act like a big market team. And that does frustrate me, and they should be in on guys. Like, Bryce Harper. Manny Machado goes without saying I was very pleasantly surprised yesterday. Larry because I signing. Well, it took me a while to try to make sense of it. Because he's a good baseball player. We'll start there. I know he was represented by Brodie van wagon. So people like to bring that up and sure I'm sure familiarity has a little bit to do with it. And he is thirty four years old. So it's not like he's twenty five, but he's coming off a year last year in which he was really good job in ninety nine runs at twenty three home runs had an old PS over eight hundred it really good year last year. 'cause I showing the Eastern Conference standings NBA, look who's in the seven spot. We dropped from six though, lousy say Miami. You better look at that. Pretty good. I know I love I love it the way I'm sorry. I didn't meet the jump is the biggest thing for the pistons loss. So the net right is growing. Are you go, but jed Lowrie is a good baseball player. It's a simple statement. And it's true because it's backed up by his career is a good baseball player. But jed Lowry's been a second baseman for the Oakland as he was an all star second baseman for the Oakland A's. So I started to think well, what the hell they gonna do. I mean, they side Robinson can. But I think what they're doing. And I like this is instead of settling in centerfield by signing an Adam Jones, who's probably under a decline by signing. AJ Pollock who's never healthy. They are saying let's get quality baseball players. Let's grow the versatility. And let's just go that route instead of settling in center field. And I think what this also does. And I said this year last week think gets even more. So today last week Jeff McNeil is going to be more of an outfielder. Right. And he isn't it? Center. Well, I would probably say a quarter outfield and then Conforto Nimmo play center because I doubt you're moving a guy that has very little experience in the outfield to center we've seen Conforto played center. We've seen nibble we have and you've got two guys right now who when they're not starting are very good defensive players to come off the bench in kiam Braxton and one lagaras, this is a very versatile baseball team where you can every single day there's gonna be a different lineup, and there's going to be a different defensive alignment, and it also gives you protection against Peter Alonzo not being any good because we don't know what your Alonzo. They also might might want to keep them down for the service type thing to well. I hate that. Well, I know. To deal with that. Yeah. This is a business with the Mets. You're right. A few weeks ago someone called up and asked that question to us. Instead of you worried about Lonzo not being here on opening day and my answer because of construction on the roster was he's going to be here on opening day. Now, I'm not sure exactly because they've given themselves the ability to say, all right? We're gonna play and figure out how they want to align. It let's say Larry at first base. Robbie Canoas second. I'm Ed Rosario at short Todd Frazier. Jeff McNeil third or maybe a different alignment they've given themselves that ability to play someone other than Alonzo Dom Smith at first base. So if we were ripping I was rubbing Brody that there are too many ifs on this team. He's eliminated one of the Fs. Yeah. By bringing in lower yet. Then if it doesn't work at first base negative. If you've got a guy like Lowry if Todd Frazier continues to stink like last year or can't stay healthy. You've got your Lowry. You've got Jeff McNeil. You've got two guys defensively in center field garrison Brockton who made it you don't have to rely on if McNeil's play and left, let's say and Conforto is playing center. So I really liked them. Would I prefer them sign Bryce Harper, Paul? Of course, I mean that goes without saying, but jed Lowrie is a good baseball player. And so for that standpoint. How can I be upset that they signed a good base? He's a good player. I he's thirty four twenty eight Greg. So when he's twenty nine, but I mean, still, I look I sorta move, and I was like, wow. That's a surprising move. Well, I remember a few days ago. John Hayman will join us. Well, John Heyman said the Mets are interested in Brian dosier and my first reassigned with the nationals inning ended up signing a one year deal with Washington. And my first reaction was oh, okay. Bryan. Brian dosier has less versatility than jed Lowrie. Brian only experience a second base. If the Mets would assign them they would've treated in the same way as Lowry, but he'd be learning new positions Lowry's played third. He's actually. Sure, I was very surprised she we drove in almost two hundred runs slash ninety nine. Rod a great year. There's a reason why the Oakland A's had success one of which was Chris Davis was their bullpen. Right. And another factor was jet. La. And he does it have to gold twenty three ninety nine. No, no. If he goes fifteen seventy eight. An every day be contributes to team that you know, makes the playoffs. How about that? That's that's that's what that's what I'm looking out with the Mets. I think they can make the playoffs issue. Why not why not for what they've done which I love is. They've given themselves such depth especially in the infield that if Todd Frazier. They've got the Bill Robinson can right now. The starting lineup to you right now. Batting order. But how do you see the starting lineup? Breaking right now is the catcher. Well. Yeah. Obvious obviously first basis who right now, I think right now, I lean towards one of the veterans that it wouldn't be Alonzo Dom Smith, unless Lowery could all what I don't know which way they're going to line it up like who they feel more comfortable playing first base. But I think you're looking at a four man infield of jed Lowrie Robinson can Allama Desario ratio on this Alonzo goes to camp, and tears it up any outfields McNeil Conforto in against a right handed pitcher. I'd lean that way, I'd lean that way, but again things can change so quickly if keenum Braxton's hidden. Got about him Garissa sitting. I think there's going to be a different line of every day. And it's going to drive us nuts. Sometimes because we're going to say why is he starting this guy? Right. You're going to be looking at a different configuration almost every single day. Whether it's playing the match ups, whether it's lefty righty. I would say it's who's hot. But we know that managers. They don't care about hotness. They don't look at that. But I think it protects them from Lonzo not being ready now, I hope Alonzo is ready because Peter Alonzo's got star potential, and he's young and be for the next five years, and that's great. So ideally, I'd love Peter Alonzo to go to Florida hit three fifty hit eight home runs Butch huskey style. But then unlike Butch huskey actually at the major league level and win a job. I'd say Aaron judge Aaron Jones had the winners right field job two years ago, which is odd to think about Peter Alonzo shoots only be Aaron judge compare them Darren judge, I'm just comparing two hundred Jody aspect that. He has to have a good spring training to win the job. Not that you're gonna turn to Aaron judge the baseball, right? But I think they protect themselves in case he doesn't, and I think that's to me. The most interesting storyline now going into spring training in a few months. Peter Lonzo what does he have to do to get that first base job in the guy? We forget about and I know why we forget about him is down Smith like he's also a fat. It's easy to forget about Don. Smith. The forefront of my mind Dom Smith. But if Dom Smith in spring training hits the cover off the ball who knows maybe he's getting time at first I'm not confident about him. I'm not either. But they they'd given themselves depth. That's what they've done like they're back that their backup shortstop can even be Jedi lower your ideal. Right. I've taken a few calls already saying well who their backup shortstop to yesterday? It was Louis ski or may now. For a short period of time. It's jed Lowrie now. Hopefully, they make other moves. I think it'd be great to add another arm out of the bullpen. I think it'd be great to add another arm to give themselves rotation depth. They did add Hector Santiago a few days ago, who's just got assigned to John. Yeah. Relief pitcher, that's another minor league contract. Yeah. Because if you look at his success over the last few years bouncing around the league, he is a quality left handed relievers. So now you've got to him in Zamora who could potentially make this team. I prefer Andrew Miller Miller is not New York cardinals. Right. So that's not happening. But it's another nice under the radar move. And brought he's been very active. I mean, you look at home. He's done things. Bryce, but he has done. Well, that's the separation. Right, right. I like individually what he's done. I think the Mets are a better team today than they were at the end of last year. It definitely would they've done is. They've added a lot of professional hitters to this lineup. And I love that. And I think that's great. But from an ownership perspective, they continue to be and have that mentality of being a mid to small market team. So that's always going to be frustrating. But like you said you just want to win that. And I think the Mets capable of what I do to the big question is going to be for the teams inside this division are any of these teams adding Manny Machado such as the Philadelphia Phillies are the Phillies adding Bryce Harper are the nationals retaining Bryce operating that's going to go a long way, the telling us the balance of power at least going into the season for this division. But as of right now, I think the Mets have improved more than anybody in this done a good job. I I completely agree with that. I think they really have. I'm optimistic about the Mets going into here. I really am. I got to see what the over under is this year. Maybe I'll dabble with that. You have to be determined. It's I bet you it's going to be over eighty one though. I would agree about eighty. I'll say eighty three and a half. Yeah. I think there's that's what I'm going to say for the Mets. There are a few encouraging things number one the off season. Obviously they've improved themselves. They've added a top notch closer. Ed, wendy. A bunch of professional hitters the bullpen with familiar, but I think there are a few other things that was already giving you optimism even before Brody took the job. And that was the pitching obviously at the top that we saw last year. Jacob degrom take his star to a whole 'nother level, obviously. And we saw Zack Wheeler finally. We went out in the lobby. Definitely did. And I think there's always this this optimism with Noah Syndergaard. Who'd he wasn't bad last year. He wasn't healthy to all year. But he wasn't what maybe we were like them to be what he was pretty good pitcher last you hope that he can be the Zack Wheeler from last year. Jacob degrom front last year. Sorority had that with starting pitching. And then you've got out good baseball players. And so I I liked that movie made me happy now he's gonna move. So thank you to Brodie van wagon for at least for a little bit changing the mood that I had concerning the jet head coaching. Thank you, very much change it that much. But I mean, he did a little bit. There was a glimmer a little bit of a glimmer. Yes. We'll talk more baseball later with John Heyman. We mentioned McNeish meta will join us in the eleven o'clock hour, Carl banks will talk to us. And of course, we'll preview division weekend. In the National Football League. It has been in going Roberts on a football Friday. No an ad from save money on car insurance. By bundling home.
