I have to walk over to be part of this and so there was some feeling out meetings so couple of phone calls and then we just did screwed up straight up addition myself with peyton with the guy and We did a game and it's like we did a game from last year because the season has started yet. And this is what i'll tell you. When it ended one of the executives who was running the thing they called me right afterwards and they said to me. What do you think and i. It wasn't them this executive said what do you think and i said the hype is real. They they they don't need a host the they don't need a third person like they. I think you should just do the two of them now. Typically you go the other way and say well you know. I i think i think i found spots and i made some jokes not able to put them in a good position and i just didn't i couldn't be. He's going on a journey with his team where they're taking steps and yesterday was a step. And it's really annoying that your to place away as mike mentioned the chubb fumble and getting a pumped back from being even more competitive. But that's a step along the way right like if they beat the kansas city at some point you'll look back. We were close for three and a half quarters and just couldn't get over the line against generational team. It was a step for the texans two years ago where they are now. Oh things change so quickly. We'll jaguars didn't beat a Pittsburgh. steelers heat the Patriots and he'd be Bill Bell Check and he'd beat Tom Brady. And if if that's not something that should be given added points knowing who the Patriots are and what they represent in this era of NFL football. I'm sorry I disagreed to just kind of view that uh-huh yeah beat the Patriots. No he beat the greatest team of all time the greatest quarterback in the greatest head coach. I think that means a lot. His team did right playing. Okay Ah in that Super Bowl. I don't think he would say he had the best game. Even the play he's known for is crazy play. That could never be replicated. The two twenty eleven run is what I remember most fondly. Va Man. I think people kind of forget that won the last game of the regular season that they played it was against the cowboys and then the three league games in the NFC playoffs and that Super Bowl he had a collection of some of the most improbable. Stretch that you'll ever see Joe flacco kind of had a somewhat similar run any add little moments like that the year after they won the Super Bowl two thousand eight. He was really good throughout the year but they didn't win the Super Bowl because if eli manning they want it because of their defense I mean they wanna because of Justin Tuck and he learned of it. It's equally reductive to me to say. They won because of the argue he was part of it took to get into the. I mean the kind of connected back to the HIGHTOWER. New York Giants waive young QB Davis Webb in shocking move
"The New York Giants cutting Davis Webb. Now Gordon, I know we. I heard on the national side, but locally was the talk is serious last year when we had UI manning getting benched and the giants talking about eventually taking saquon Barkley at two in the draft. This idea that Davis Webb could seriously be the quarterback of the future. Was that a serious conversation around New York? It was not just fans of brought that up. It was media members that brought that up. There were people who consider themselves insiders who felt like no Davis Webb has a legitimate chance to be ally. You're talking about a guy who would be going into twenty twenty without really seeing any significant time who you drafted in the third round and still then maybe he might be the apparent. But no, that was absolutely brought up as some by some that that was a reason why the jets were not gonna take a quarterback in the first round of the draft that they like Davis Webb and they thought of him. He was a third round pick. And that's not something to sneeze at so. But no, I never worked out that way and it was always kind of puzzling. I think to a lot of us that that Origene that did not draft. A guy is now going to put this faith in this guy, especially when he did not have good preseason this year. I mean, anytime you, you know, when he really got a bit of a chance in the preseason that first preseason game where he got a significant run, he was not good. So I think that the news is still kind of stunning that they decided to cut them essentially decided to go with the thirty year old Alex Tanny over him when he was just a third round pick a year ago. But the I know that talk about him at least within some circles in the media was out there talking to Gordon Damer on the show Pennzoil performance. Does that make you at all hesitant looking back now, even as great as we all think saquon Barkley is going to be this idea that in a year worthy quarterback class was considered so stellar and understanding. It looks like that talent is going to drop off in the coming years. When the guys we're seeing coming out of college. Does that give anyone pause now, looking at the fact that maybe even with a great running back giants could have passed on a quarterback that could succeed succeed, Eli manning that narrative is already well established in this town. Yeah. I mean, people are already hopping on that bandwagon might be the only exercise some people get, but that is the that is the exercise they're getting right now is jumping on that bandwagon because that's one that you can easily foresee right saquon Barkley could go out this year and as a running back, have a sensational season. But if the giants don't make the playoffs, go deep into the playoffs another year off the calendar for thirty seven year old ally manning and in the very same stadium, you have this young twenty one year old quarterback who very well could be making strides to show that he is the real deal and at least so far, right. We're talking about all these quarterbacks taken in the first round. He's the only guy that's going to be starting week one of those guys, all these guys that we talked about and we're dreaming all these scenarios before the draft Sam darnold. The only guy and he's still playing in this town with the along with the, you know the jets facing off against the giants who decided, no, we're not gonna go, rebuild. We're going to do quick fix. We're going to plug in a running back who's certainly going to be very talented now that that narrative is certainly out there. "Talk about other wide receiver. Odell Beckham junior was back in March. Kinda felt like man is a really good chance that Odell Beckham junior is going to hold out as he seeks a new contract. He's gonna play this season under his rookie deal. It's gonna pay him about eight and a half million bucks, but he showed up for many Cam. He participated in most of the giants off season program and word is he is going to be there tomorrow when the New York Giants begin training camp. Here's a Jordan Renna on ESPN NFL giants reporter on sportscenter last night, talking about what Dell showing up the giants training camp means he's doing all the things giants. Ask them shown up minicamp showing up to OTA's. Now he's going to show up the training camp. Look. He had an option here Khalil Mack. Aaron, Donald day matrix differently. They may not show up for their teams. Adele, this guy wants to play football, right? He's a football player dying to get back out there. So he wants to get out there during training camp and he's putting the ball in the giants court and saying, hey, look, I'm doing everything possible to get this deal done. I want to be here, right? "It's a cat and mouse game here so all the stuff that you're hearing about who teams like and whatnot you take it with a grain of salt but i do think the new york giants there with the second pick really are going to dictate a lot of what happens for the rest of this first room by let's see what you guys think eighty eight say espn eight seven to nine three seven seven six started off with joey he's calling from la joe you're on espn radio how were you and doing great and how about yourself joe i'm doing outstanding what's on your mind today and there's a lot of the nfl draft but i want to begin by asking you have you seen so much buildup leading up to a draft i it's this is the most i've seen since two thousand four with ally manning not wanting to go to geico well what was the common denominator with two thousand and four in two thousand eighteen is that you had a few quarterbacks who will figure to go here early on in the draft remember in oh four yet three quarterbacks going the top ten now the interesting thing about it though here is i'm not going to sit here and try to convince you that josh allen josh rosen sam darnold if indeed those of the three guys off the board i in any particular order i'm not going to sit here and try to convince you that those three guys are going to the hall of fame just like alive rivers and ben rothlisberger are going to be in one day i mean this end up this could be the same disaster as when we had tim couch donovan mcnabb and akili smith go one two three it might end up being that way but i do think that there's a couple of these guys who figure to have good careers and that's why you have the nation when you have the quarterback and when you have as many of them as you have figuring to go early on here in two thousand eighteen that's where all this buildup comes from.
