"Turn to that. Because I've tried to figure out who shot whom and the Palestinians are not the Palestinian authority is not cooperating with the idea. What is your assessment of the situation, doctor Oren? So last night I was talking to an Israeli journalist and I said, just watch your authority is going to say that they found a 5.56 bullet in the journalists. Now the Israeli forces use 5.56 palisades usually use 7.62 at the colossal cost bullet, but they also do have American a fours and M 16s. And I also think that the Palestinians wouldn't cooperate with an Israeli offer for a joint investigation. And they rejected it, even though the Biden administration asked Allison is to do it. They quickly closed the case. I heard this morning that they've already buried the body. And the passwords are making a calculation. Yeah, maybe the Biden administration will get a little aggravated, but the international community is going to come down hard on Israel. I was looking at the international press coverage, NBC had an item on it where they did an interview and the Israeli. They only talked about the greeting Palestinians and the implication is that we are guilty before we're judged. And

Ep 155: A Once-In-A-Generation Opportunity to Shape the Future of Nonprofit Work (with Allison Fine and Beth Kanter) - burst 01

"So if we think about digital transformation about leveraging new technologies like smart tech and organizational change, whether that's the way we work or whether it's being more innovative with our program models in a way that adds value for our mission and our stakeholders. So smart tech is really good at doing these rote tasks like intake forms or expense reports. But it's more than just liberating us from this busy work. It can really profoundly change us. Because of that gift of time that you mentioned. And here's the intersection with well-being. Will nonprofits use that dividend of time to try to get more and more done, like those workers underneath the city, or can we repurpose that time to improve our relationships with donors with our other external clients and stakeholders, as well as give staff that space to plan, even to dream to innovate. So I think this is the intersection of digital transformation and well-being. And another way to put it is with the tagline from the movie, which is really about putting humans at the center, not the machines or the tools, and that tagline of metropolis is the intermediary between the hand and the brain is the heart. So what we're talking about is approaching this technology that can be highly efficient to be very human centered and really not to invest it back into busyness, but to really invest it with that spaciousness of that leads to innovation and doing work differently. And I just want to say something about spaciousness versus busyness. And I think that's really important. I'm learning a lot about the notion that there's work that fuels you and there's work that depletes you. Right? And I feel like the kind of work you're talking about that lives in this place called spaciousness is the work that fuels you, that right, it is the staring at your computer and doing that busywork you describe that depletes you. That's what puts people on the fastpass to burn out. It's not how much work you do, although there's some of that. It's about the kind and quality of the work that you do. And that's really I think what you're speaking to here, right Beth? Absolutely. And I think also the amount of work is also important too when it leads to burnout. So if this is liberating us, to do more quality work, it's also liberating us to take that time off and refuel and have the confidence really to make that change. And that it's going to be better. So I was never in a classroom without a crucifix on the wall. And Catholic school, the nuns would always say that learning

Allison Bottke: Being Able to Have an Action Plan Is Critical

"Now let's talk about the eye, which you have is implement rules and boundaries. This probably is the most difficult. We can recognize where we've fallen short as a parent, our own misgivings, et cetera. When we talk about implementing rules and boundaries, and that comes out of galatian 6, I believe, carrying each other's burdens, how do we do that? How do we begin to set those rules and boundaries? And really change our own behavior. That's exactly what it is. It's changing our own behavior. Being able to have an action plan is critical. If you don't have anything to aim for, what's that saying? You'll hit nothing every time. So we've got to have a plan. What's the outcome that you want as a parent? Is it for your child to launch? Or is it to perhaps help them through addiction or is it to know if you're supposed to take care of your grandkids? Because a lot of parents know are taking care of grandkids because their kids because they're either in jail or prison or they're addicts and they are capable. So it's really what is it that you as a parent, what do you feel that you need to do? What's the next step? What are expectations? And write that down. I'm a big believer. I'm a writer. I'm a big believer in writing things down. So we can see it because we don't know what remember in that throws of emotion that we're so often in. And if we're communicating with adult children that are dysfunction or trouble, they may not remember, so I'm a big proponent of writing things down to plan. And presenting it to our adult child if they play a part in this, such as maybe moving out or what it is that that looks like. And if you're going to no longer give money for no longer going to support them, or they have to do this in order to get that, you've got to write that down. So that plant, I had to write down everything. How I saw my life, what the steps were.

"The a insanity. The a stands for a symbol, a support group. Why is this critical for parents who are struggling? And what do these support groups look like? See, accountability is a key factor here. If that's in your church family, a lot of parents don't want to bring up the challenges that we're having with our kids, especially if drugs are involved or incarceration or kids are Internet of jail. In and out of relationships, I've talked to parents who have daughters who have three, four, 5 kids, all by different fathers. It's a nightmare what a lot of parents are living

"To do? And at that moment, I didn't think of sanity steps. It was, I have to stop. I have to stop what I'm doing right now. I have to stop behaving the way I am. I have to stop my actions. So I wrote down stop. So it was a whole process, Jim, to go through finding these status steps. I knew I had to stop repeating the same behavior and expecting different results. And I knew I needed help. I needed to be around people that would hold me accountable. That I could learn from and grow from. I started therapy. I started really reading everything I could on boundaries. I didn't realize the issues I had. So I needed to be around so that a was assembled supportive people. And I wrote people nip excuses in the bud. I had to stop making excuses. Not just for my son's behavior, but my own. So that was a significant excuse. And I had to implement some kind of a plan. I'm a proactive woman. I was a businesswoman. I said, okay, I can do this. I need a plan. I need to plan of action. I need something tangible that I can look at and write down and actually do. That's tangible. So that was implement a plan. T was trust the spirit. I had to trust that God was in control and I so often went over him. Yes. And this is really, that's how that connection really when the S.W.A.T. team rated my son's house and I was standing there dumping out liquor. I heard the voice of God say, stop. Stop, stop. You can't do this. I think I have to stop this. I have to trust that voice. And a lot of parents, and I've found this to be very true. A lot of parents will say, I knew I was doing something wrong. I knew it wasn't right. I knew I should have stopped. I knew when he asked me for more money, I shouldn't have given it. But I just didn't listen to that. So we're praying for wisdom and discernment, we need to listen when it comes. So that's the trust. And why is yield everything to God?

Allison Bottke Message to Parents: Never Give up on Hope

"Without knowing those things, I'm mindful that we have pretty much ripped a band aid off of some parents that are listening, that they have that 20 something child. And perhaps it is a prodigal child, perhaps it is related to drug abuse or some of those extreme behavioral things that some people get themselves into, particularly in their 20s. And what word would you have for them, it's before you had your moment, your realization that I've got to change direction, God I need your help. What would you say to that parent that is listening going, wow, okay. I need change. I would say that one word is hope. Never give up hope. You can change your child can change. God is beyond capable of taking care of this nightmare that you're in. So hang on to that hope, realize that if we have hearts filled with hope, nothing's impossible. So we just can't give up hope. And that's it. We get so frustrated and fearful and just tired. Parents get tired. So especially at this time, 20s if it chances are this didn't just happen overnight that they're having challenges with the, whether it's a dysfunctional failure to launch child a troubled child. This isn't an overnight thing, so it's been going on for a while. And we're just get tired. And we want to give up. So I would say just to hang on to hope that anything's possible.

Allison Bottke Defines Enabling vs. Helping for Parents

"Allison, let's get that definition of enabling versus helping. I mean, I think with parents, that's where that tough line is. And I don't even know if there's a clear distinction, but what would you suggest to parents to understand what is helpful help and what is enabling or counterproductive help? I've always said that helping is doing something for someone that they can't do for themselves. So you help them enabling is doing something for someone that they can and frankly should be doing for themselves. Right. I often use the example of a young child learning to tie their shoes. You're helping them by tying it for them and showing them how to do this. But if they're ten, 12 years old and just don't want to tie their shoes and you're bending down to tie their shoes for them, something is wrong with this picture. So they can do it on their own. So it's really looking at what they are capable of doing. And this is a big issue. We don't really know what our kids are capable of doing because we've done it for them so often.

Allison Bottke: Create an Equitable Situation With Your Adult Children

"Let's start with that failure to launch concept. We're seeing that is growing in our culture today. Why do you think this is a growing problem for today's families? Well, a lot of it's financial. The financial challenges that young people have on the outside, whether they've not budgeted well, and that happens a lot. They don't know how to live. They don't know how to financially budget their lives. So they come back home. And you know what? It becomes so easy. Parents have allowed this. And why not? Why not go back home if I'm going to have my rent paid in my electricity payment and food and somebody's going to cook for me and it's a double edged sword there.

San Francisco Voters Oust Three School Board Members

"Meanwhile, here, closer to California. There were recall election involving three school board members. Why were they facing a recall election? Well, Asian American voters were angered because the school board introduced a lottery system for high school called Lowell high school. Lowell high school probably the finest public high school in California always had an admissions based test. And as a result, the majority of the school board were Asian American kids. And that, of course, does not work under the dye narrative, diversity, inclusion, equity. So these three board members voted to have an emissions based upon racial representation. Also, while they were shutting down the school, the school board members spent a lot of time debating on how to rename schools and some of the historical figures that were threatened to be canceled, included but were not limited to Abraham Lincoln and the three other presidents on Mount Rushmore, a Spanish conquistador named Balboa, John Muir, the naturalist and Paul Revere the Revolutionary War figure, all of those faced having been canceled by the school board members and as a result, these three school board members. Allison Collins, Gabriella Lopez, and feluga, malinga. We're facing recall elections all three were recalled. 79% voting to oust Collins. 75% voting to oust Lopez 72% voting to remove

San Francisco Voters Oust Three School Board Members in Recall Vote

"As you know, parents are rising up to take control of their kids education, or taking back control from the public sector teacher unions from the powers that have been teaching this woke orthodoxy, this radical, sexual education, mask mandates, vaccine mandates, and quietly below the radar, there was a recall effort that was launched in San Francisco to recall school board members. Last evening, San Francisco school board members, three of them were ousted in a landslide recall vote landslide. San Francisco has successfully recalled three members of the city school board. I'm reading from the post millennial dot com, after a vote Tuesday, showing that residents of San Francisco were overwhelmingly in favor of removing the progressives from their posts. And the demographic that turned out in large numbers to remove the school board members were Asian American voters. One of the main reasons were they saw the policies of the school board to be anti Asian and their right. Because CRT was starting to be used for admission policies and public comments. For example, Asian Americans were being explicitly discriminated against in admissions to schools across San Francisco. We already know that's been happening in colleges. State senator Melissa Melendez shared the results, which revealed the school board vice president Allison Collins, school board president Gabriela Lopez, and fagua, maliga would all be removed from the school board. With those in favor, compromising over 70% of the vote. So when they were actually put up on a ballot, 70% of the people in the local area wanted these school board members removed. San Francisco mayor London breed. I think she was the one that was in the nightclub where she said she was feeling the energy for not wearing a mask. She said, quote, the voters of this city have delivered a clear message that the school board most focus on the essentials of delivering a well run school system above all else. She has previously slammed the school board for being too concerned with political agendas. This is the same school board. I don't know if it's a specific school board, but it's part of the whole kind of geographic educational complex that wanted to rename the Abraham Lincoln school. Because Abraham Lincoln was a white supremacist.

San Francisco Voters Recall 3 Board of Education Members

"A small piece of hopeful news good news out of San Francisco, the city has voted decisively. This is the voters. More than 70%. In a recall vote to throw out three of the members of the city school board. And the vote was not close. Allison Collins recalled by 78% to 21% Gabriella Lopez, 74% to 24%. Falga moliga recalled 71% to 27%. So this is massive majorities liberal majorities have decided to give these three scoundrels the boat. So you might ask, what's going on in San Francisco? Well, by and large, the city school board has been in complete, has kept the schools in complete shutdown. And parents are getting increasingly restless. My kids aren't getting a proper education. They're essentially being cognitively deprived for the larger part of two years when other schools gonna open, but instead of focusing on that, what the city school board was focused on is renaming the schools. Apparently, these three characters were leading a drive to rename a whole bunch of schools in San Francisco. The Abraham Lincoln school, the George Washington school, the Thomas Jefferson school that Theodore Roosevelt school, the Robert Louis Stevenson school, Nepal revere school all renamed, and the decision to rename them was taken literally in seconds. Apparently they had a sort of a research committee, the school names advisory committee, they did no real research. They did basically Google and Wikipedia. And they just decided, Abraham Lincoln, yeah, you freed the slaves, but who cares? You know, he was the American Indians didn't do very well under Lincoln. Boom, he's gone. And this was the methodology. No debate, no consultation with historians, no effort to sort of do a balanced assessment. The only time a balanced assessment came up as somebody said, well, wasn't Malcolm X kind of a racist in the early part of his career, and they were like, yeah, but he got better later. So what we're not gonna read. We're not gonna take his name off the
