"Three high profile televised games in the evening during the week day. You can very realistically put in a situation where you can coincide that with WNBA games even have a run up scenario where you have a WNBA game. Run into a slot where that that can happen. I think the the difference here is because they were so insistent that they had to have twenty two teams in eight regular season games before this playoffs they have to jam packed schedule, and to be really hard for the WNBA cut through that now in general scenario where you can space eighty two over several months or thirty six games over several weeks. You're going to be able to make that work scheduling. Wise. This is a case where that's totally not going to happen. It's very clear that Adam silver in the NBA didn't consider. Consider the WNBA standing win. This was put together I. Think Cathy Engelbert as far as planning did about as good a job as you can't do. They found a good facility. They listen to their players. They've tried to make this happen. The thing that scares me is the answer of we're being very careful, and we're taking every precaution possible. That doesn't make me feel better in the slightest, because there are many scenarios right now of people that have taken every precaution, and they're still getting infected alley Krieger of the Orlando Pride and. The US women's soccer team had that scenario she just on Instagram, talked about how she was one of the players who had tested positive for code. One thousand, nine hundred six players that led to the Orlando Pride happened to altogether. pull out of the Challenge Cup and it was very very frustrating and depressing that that had happened in a lot of people assumed these were people who were going out in. Bars and nightclubs and restaurants going out into the public doing this was an alley crew very openly, said no me and Ashley. Harris were doing the by the book things. We're very careful. We made it a point that we would only have things delivered into the store. We tried to be clean about it, but this still happened in in the other side about it with pride is. Some of the there is some. Misconception on some of these tests may actually end up coming up negative long run, but still then the idea that someone can play by the rules that heavily and still get infected. You can protect this bubble as much as you want. It takes one blip in the radar. That can turn this into A. Potentially catastrophic scenario, which by the way every league will have its Guinness? Every sports they get. Someone is going to have to face. Somebody caught it. That's our bubble and we travel in play together every day. And what are we gonNA do about it and and honestly this probably won't happen and this is a hypothetical site. I probably shouldn't even go down this road, but if the worst should happen, and someone actually get severely ill due to. To this or all GonNa look at it as a totally preventable situation. Yes, in retrospect, we will all see we didn't have to do this. Yes, and that is a scary situation. The fact of the matter of you brought it up the exactly perfectly one individual player tested positive, and they were willing to take every precaution back in February or sorry back in March it feels like it was twenty years ago, but back in March and The fact of the matter is a a player of each league will be infected during this time line I. Think you can just say that allowed a wnba player one at least or at least a personnel member is is going to test positive for covid. Nineteen an NBA player personnel will NHL Mlb League name it. It's going to happen I think you can say it with confidence is gone, have him. The fact of the matter is the narrative is different now why why is the narrative different and at the only thing that it comes down to is? Yes, there are still people very hungry for sports, and you have that right? That's your opinion, and that's up to you. The other side of it is there are a lot of people that. Are are hoping that they can still get out of two thousand and twenty in the black and instead of in the red. They think they can still profit off of this year, and that's why that push exists. You can say it, however you want, but that's how it happens. That's why there's twenty two teams playing in the NBA season and not sixteen. That's why there's eight regular season games before playoffs trying to get as much television exposure so that they can try to break, even potentially profit off of twenty twenty. Spent. However you want. That's the truth of it. I think that's where this this whole thing comes down to is. The motivations have officially changed and honestly. If I know that some people might roll their eyes on this, but this is the thing that Kinda goes back to trump because he set that narrative a couple months ago in making this about the economy and pushing people to you know to reopen, set this narrative win of. They tried to get us to believe that this curve was flattening, and that things were getting better when good gracious hard data right for faces the tell us that the curve has gotten worse and. I. I will add I. Don't think sports. Ever need a push to be concerned about their economic well-being I think they're pretty much. This is so this is a generalization, but by and large when I think of a sports owner. I'm not thinking of someone who's concerned about the community so much. They're concerned about their investment. In a sports team site it doesn't surprise me at all group of people in every league is in a room trying to figure out how they're going to do this in twenty twenty, instead of just how to take care of their players, but..

"Winner and to the world cup winner again and so i mean i think that not only has repeatedly in this entire team including alley krieger including kristen press gone forward and said these this is who we are these are our identities and were not going to settle i think it's brilliant for them to set a precedent and making the pino said it best she doesn't want their action to be collected and she is very much showing what it's like in terms of ally ship what is required and it's not just talk it's it's action mobilization that's what in addition to winning the most credible tournaments sporting tournament and women's football this is what these players are doing so it'll be really interesting to see how the administration response from finally professor emeritus davis they possibility of there being a strike by this world cup winning team as they move in to be olympics if they're not satisfied with the deal with us soccer federation around equal pay and the possibility of legislation they're invited the capital of will this leads to legislation around pay equity in general maybe even pack and passengers equal rights amendment yes certainly you know i think of some of the biggest labor victories that we've seen over the past years have been in the arena women's sports whether it's getting equal pay maternity rights for women athletes or the women's national hockey team who also went on strike before big tournament to up their pay and i think that's what you're seeing in this moment in this possibility they know that they are taking calculated risk by putting these lawsuits on the biggest stage but they're earning it they're getting out there and they're saying not only refiling this but we're gonna back it up on the pitch so you can't ignore us and i think you're exactly writes in the olympics they're going into mediation and will see but they have this bargaining chip because they know they have the eyes of the world upon them going into a tournament next year they have good lebron's right now and i think some of the things they call for for gobi on pay equity it's also about are they getting the same a per dm hafer food are they getting the same travel accommodations are they being forced to play on turf so wow we talk about equal pay and you hear those chance there's a lot to unpack in what they're saying for gender discrimination and what they're really pointing to is that it's about a full structure of resources not just pay that really disadvantages working women and so you know hopefully with more attention on this they've shown they're capable of they've taking that tension and propelling empowering it in other issues so it'd be really tremendous certainly for them to connect this to other labor struggles and also push this forward into structural teens and as you mentioned perhaps even finally getting that that you already passed a mirror is davis i wanna thank you for being with us assistant professor of history and women's gender and sexuality studies at penn state university ensuring that writer and award winning sports it's activists focusing on muslim women in sport and they intersections of racism in massage any in sports they're both part of a team of five women who created the weekly burn it all down podcast one we come back billionaire hedge fund manager jeffrey epstein has been arrested on sex trafficking charges this comes more than a decade after he receive what has been described as one of the most lenient deals for a serial child sex offender in history facilitated by the man who is now president trump's labor secretary stay with.

"On it might be eighty six right like there's no reason for that is really wasn't gonna come back it was more like a thank you it's like the alley krieger going in so using carli lloyd gets in it's more of a gesture of appreciation that you don't think she would that could be it if the game qualified but i also think you could see her as well yeah he has a voter regulation be they were calling her 'cause there's so many options off the bench right well we saw what happened last game right tobin heath was done yeah right a and then so she comes in and then puts the token he needs to come out color lloyd comes in alex morgan drops off the left outside mid christian press comes over right like you know what i mean there is no memory that innovation so there is enough rotation so that hardly needs to be central more central she's not gonna be you're winger but she she will do the gritty work so she could do the defensive hustle but you don't either buildup play all right so we have one more interview to listen to front julie's outstanding work in this morning as american team was boarding this their boss she caught up with a with quite a few of the players the next person with the person we thought would be the star of the semi final i she may have still ended up being a another star but certainly one of the biggest talking points and that is meghan pino she didn't end up playing but here she is this morning with health update with are julie foudy all right megan what is the latest on the hamstring hamstring is feeling very good 'em like i said yesterday was minor to begin with but with such a short amount of time between the games just wasn't able to be at first election in obviously we've talked so much about the depth in the team and that's where we really got to show it off i mean like i have been playing well the tournament but i've just sit and then you bring christian press off the bench i mean that's that's like next level that's like a cheat code that's not fair so i had a good session this morning much feeling good getting better every day and i expect to be ready for the final what was it like to be watching that emotional game from the sidelines and what would it take for you not to be on the field on sunday and who's very stressful watching those games obviously you know you are invested the most that anybody comey invested with the with the group being on the field 'em and you just want them to do so well so so much pride and joy goes into watching joining the players on the field and trying the same focused and energized and just give them everything they need 'em i mean it would it would take a lot for me to not be be on the field a feeling better everyday 'em so excited be ready for it interesting here talking there about how like stressful it was watch the games i can't imagine just like if you're out of a big game it must be just agonizing you ever miss a big game now not it's not one that you like agonize about being not one that was close to that makes sense like there were a couple of world cup and olympics that i sat because one i would like deathly ill and the two thousand eight olympics like had this nasty disgusting virus that i couldn't get rid of a and i sat one game but none of these games were like super like we might lose and we'd already qualified right so the next round you so i'd never sat out a big game so i don't know that feeling but i do know what it's like to be 'em vicarious passenger on a team where you're watching it and you're like.

"It gets dropped about a day and a half ago and then everybody starts talking about it. Of course, it draws a tweet response from the president in which the president says, Meghan should win. I before she taught. But he does go on to say that he would now invite the team win or lose. Then repeat knows teammates jump in. They seem to be defending their teammate. No surprise there. Alley Krieger, perhaps the most notable with her Twitter response to the president. Julia just from the, the scenes that you tweet it out. It seemed like this is a big deal over there, just like it is a big deal over here. Interesting. I was talking to one of the reporters from Canal, Plus, and I said, how big a news is this year, and he said, well, it was asked about in the press conference to Korean doctor. And she basically it was like, I don't know. I don't I haven't been following. And he says, you know, we've talked about it a little bit on French television, but it hasn't been tracking the way it has been in the United States. But there was, you know, clearly, an and of course it's the game everyone's been wanting to see and watch. So there was a lot of press there. But I think maybe a little bit beautifully, actually, because what she did, and they haven't been doing this typically as she the woman who is moderating said, you know, would you like to make an opening statement Megan? Of course that was planned. I'm sure and she said, yes and without it being scripted which I liked as well. It was authentic. You know, she basically said, I stand by my comments, you know, minus the expletive which my mother wouldn't be proud of. But, you know, this is an administration that doesn't support the same views and issues that I support and many of my teammates support. And so I won't be going, if we went and I thought it was perfect. And it, it Luli took the air out of the room in terms of everyone was coming in, I think, with those questions, and she said, I basically wanna talk about soccer, and, you know, and hope you respect that, and a couple of people try to ask about it, but, you know, she, she's deflected instead I you know, I you know, my positions on on my protesting and why I'm protesting and I'm here to talk about the game. And they and they pretty much honored that. So I thought it was it was a brilliant, stroke by her. Did you feel an all that she was rattled in a way with all the questions? And I, I know Megan is pretty resolute, but I have to say you recovering the World Cup in two thousand and seven Foudy, and I happen to be Megan routine. Oh, standing on that stage. When somehow the news broke that hope solo wasn't starting the next day. And every single press conference question was not about how we're going to face Brazil, not nothing. It was all about hope hope and asking me and asking are then coach Greg Ryan. And in fact, you actually cornered me in the hallway afterwards and was, like, tell me the real story that was like fatty get out of my face. Like I can't tell you because I like I you doing your job. But I have to do mine, and, but I, I walked away like disappointed and rattled that something was taken in that moment. And we couldn't talk about the game. Does he think that Megan at all feels rattled? Or is this team and her being one of the main leaders of the team so? Custom to making statements that some could be perceived as distracting to the game, but also trying to talk from their platform. I would say, you know, unless you the tremendous actor sh it does not seem rattles mean she was her normal self and mind. You, it's the president of the United States is calling her out by her handle, which originally gets wrong, by the way, and has to crack. But and so all the weight of the maga- fury is coming back at her, and so yet she seems fine and confident, and in calm and, and, and even Jill..

"And you know the thing with the US is we travel with so many fans in every home game, hat, sorry, every game as felt like a home game for the United States and in Ron's and lahar, which is where their last game was even in Paris, they had twenty thousand strong they've been taking over stadium. So this'll be the first time that obviously, I think, in Paris, and they're playing the host country, it's going to be a pro France crowd, and that's gonna play part in the country. Here is so excited about their team their numbers. They've getting ten million watching their first game. They've, they've been drawing more fans than they ever had have of course, for their team. So they're entirely enthusiastic about knocking off the defending World Cup champions as everyone always is hard. So, so we'll get you oughta here on this given the fact that it is in Paris, given the fact that your. Apprehensions about the goalie of not necessarily been allayed given all of that stuff which way are you leaning in this particular game? Come on. Come on. Yeah. We go. All that they're still going to win. And that's the thing I love about this group. Honestly, is this is a team and you can hear it when they talk they live for these moments you have veterans on this team and Megara piano, Tobin heath, and Alex Morgan, you go down the list. Alley Krieger, and these players are saying, oh my gosh. This is the moment you dream about you want the host in the quarterfinal game against France in Paris on a Friday night. And so I love that they're willing to embrace that pressure, and I think they're going to do well under that pressure. So I'm taking the United States of America. It's official so. Appreciate it. All right, guys. Thanks a steak one last break. But still to come catcher. Russell Martin pitches. Second one two three inning. Is he for real? And how worry should the yanked be about Carlos Stanton's latest trip to the injured list? You know what they hit a million home runs without him. They do. You know, I don't think they need a judge. Still playing. Yeah. People have twenty second birthday Yordan Alvarez Alvarez a rookie outfielder for the Houston Astro Ria's played in fourteen games already has seven home runs and eighteen RBI which is what we call on pace for Cooperstown, he doesn't just hit home runs hit some to your home. They go four hundred and fifty fees straight scouting. Tony. You've got a great team. You can add this kind of talent this kind of back to your lineup this scary again. They're really really not. So happy aaniversary to Kwami Brown, and Anthony Bennett on this day in two thousand one and two thousand thirteen respectively Brown invented with a number on overall picks in the NBA draft round with chosen by Michael Jordan, Jordan briefly ran the Washington Wizards stay league for twelve seasons. Never had any impact to and selected him out of a Georgia high school Bennett was the first pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers out of UNLV, and he did nothing who's on the league and four just how many. Scored per game. Then it's probably the worst number one ever Brown. I would think top six eight probably all those clips with Jordan is trying to splaine to him, a, you want all these kids in the NBA. You don't want always arguing they should be. They should be in college. I mean trails Giancarlo Stanton. The Yankee slugger is back on the injured list with a sprained right? Need standings played in only nine games this season? Yankee GM Brian Cashman does not expect him back until August while the Yankees at home runs in every game. Anyway. They're killing the ball, their first place in the AL by seven games tooth is they don't need Stanton now. But they couldn't. Who else you're going to need down the line, of course? In The a big big reddish. reddish here, we've still at the Celtics are hiring Carol off as an assistant coach thoughts. I'm happy for all the things she did right here in Washington happy, and proud of is known Susic kid, real good luck involved, the Celtics USA men be Panama one mill to win their group in the Gulf up. "It's like, also from a personal perspective. You're not like our players. Talk about like, if I want to learn how to break down bunkers I can't play in the United States because NWS L is one big transition game. So it's interesting to watch how players monetarily might not be incentive incentive to leave, but it's also going to be because possible awards could never dream of what did you tell us the noble? Hey, guess what? It's not just going to be international stars. They're drawing from individuals L, right? But it's hard though. I mean right. Olympic here coming up next. What are we say the number wasn't on W self? Your non not what's the max number. So it was like forty six. Yeah, it's like eighteen forty six five is a range for Enron subsidized what Santa Kerr may be. They need to do. Like, honestly, what they really need to do is to have what he goes to play a role. That's what they need to do. But then you're going to have the NWEA cell is you have, it's the clubs of the haves and the have-nots. Yeah. You have the mom and pop shops, and then you also have like the really wealthy owners. You're so then I understand why they haven't gone a DP route because someplace like Portland in spend it on it. Right. So I think, you know, I texted you this one. I, I saw that tweet. I think we're headed for an arms race. But I think the big spending, I didn't know if you're talking about Iran, like. Know God like you see you see Madrid you see Manchester United. We know the type of budgets, we know you know, the type of dollars that those clubs bring in and I just don't really see the end of your cell in its current model able to keep up, you know. And I do think at some point, we'll see we will see some those US internationals, like, look, look at whatever it is that they would make through that federation contract, you compare it to what Sam curse talking about making and Sam curve's gonna come out better. I think so there's a lot to way. But as as we get excited about what's happening to women's football around the world. I think we have to have an honest assessment about what it means for women's football in our backyard. Do I don't know if you have any more thoughts on that if you want, let's dive into the Spain game, right? We got a game in about forty eight hours. That's. That's a limitation. Can we do a quick version of is it trash talking or not because we did that last week with Helvig Lindahl the Swedish goalie? And I think we decided on this show that hers was not actually that bad, right? Whatever she had said previous and was not trash talking here, a reporter asked via Heaney Dorothea, the number fourteen for Spain. What she thought about alley Krieger 's comments that the US had the best and the second best team at this tournament Dorothea responded, quote, who is Allie Krieger? That's everybody good at the same time. Ooh is trash talker, Julie. Dowdy. I don't know. It was good. Actually, I giggled it that one, I that's a good one. No, I think that's fair. Trump talk for you. I mean like it, honestly like if you are a player from other country, especially a player for Spain because basically play in Spain..

"He's one of those inclusion players when he first joined the team, she's very nice. She brings you and she calms your nerves a little bit. And she makes sure she finds those people crystal done talks about it. How Alec Kruger was one of the. That brought her and made her feel comfortable and she's also very experienced. This is our third World Cup two thousand fifteen I think she started all seven matches pretty much played every minute as the team went on to win it on two thousand eleven you'll remember she hits the game winning penalty in that epic quarterfinal after the comeback against Brazil. So she's had her moments. And it's interesting. You mentioned her as a locker room favored, she's also a fan favourite Kate because I remember during this time when she was hands. When she was not being called into the national team, you would get just mounds of people on Twitter who were like where's alley Krieger wears alley Krieger? And we would do a broadcast. And if you mentioned alley Krieger, the fact that she wasn't called into camp, people would go wild on on Twitter about it. And it was really interesting. Then when she gets called back into the team, of course, Twitter explodes Oliver fans are going wild, and then I saw it in person because we were in Saint Louis and for the second to last game of the sendoff series. And in those atmospheres you get a sense as each player like walks onto the field or is introduced like who's really a fan favourite and you expect like Alex Morgan to get a loud, applause, you expect Tobin heath to get a loud applause, Alec Krieger has an amazing resume just gave it to you. But as its central defence, or as a defender, you don't usually don't get that, you know, listen, she's female athlete. That's very attractive. So there's always going to be a part of this whole dynamic is the same on the men. Get different fan base you just more attuned to it on the women's side because you're you're in a I think fans deathly on the women's side get very attached to their players for whatever reason. And, you know, you say one thing, and it's like, well because you ate them, and I'm like, no, it's because I'm being honest because this is my job as we heard earlier Julian talking about the French players not used to criticism. Right. So this is just part of it. And yes, she's got a huge fan base. Obviously, she's engaged to teammate ashlin Harris engaged in March. Relationship public, right? It'd been out, but now it's definitely out. And so for a lot of different reasons she is breaking different barriers, and her inclusion to me was, you know, this is a player that brings a ton of experience. It's not atypical for Jill to do this. She did this in the last World Cup is well, she brought Shannon box Christie ramp own Santa box. More was the one that was kind of like, what but jilts spoke to the fact that Shannon's leadership, and her leadership at training and our leadership, and her more than any of the other veterans that weren't playing was really what stood out. And she was very thankful that she did that. So because it was such a good experience. She did it again. You said you were surprised when you saw Krieger get the initial call back into the team, maybe not to make the World Cup team. Because then we'd seen her in some call ups and stuff, but early in the season she was surprised as well. She told me she was in between two a day sessions with Orlando pride in preseason when she got the call. And she almost had to like ask the people around, or is this. Joe even cameras around place, but she did actually mention by name Sydney LaRouche. She said, Sydney Larue was always in Rio during that kind of dark period of no communication, with the national team staff saying look you're gonna get a call back in..

"You know, you mentioned a ham and her husband, a are part owners of Los Angeles, F E, and they've talked about wanting to get a women's team. I think that would be really great. I know that Las Vegas is in contention being analyzed expansion city. And if that happens, you know for them if they could add a women's team that would be great, too. So, you know, you just have to see more investment from people who are in the game and know about soccer and love soccer. I think in the past there have been a lot of people getting into the game. And, you know, being part of these past ones that really didn't know that much about soccer. So, yeah, I think they're just evolution in that regard. I think part of the problem is that, that people automatically assume that it's going to be a lesser brand of soccer. And they could not be more wrong, because the women are absolutely phenomenal. And doing what they do. How do we get the word out that, that the level of soccer, they play is as good as any men's team on any level anywhere? Yeah. I think that's why events like the women's World Cup are so important, because every four years, that's really the time when people who maybe don't follow soccer that closely, they wanna tune in and root for the US. I think it's sort of a similar thing we see in the Olympics. It's like I've never watched handball in my life. But if the US is competing, I'm, I wanna watch them. I wanna root for the US. So in invent like the women's World Cup is really helpful in kind of helping people understand how fun watching soccer is, and we continually there's always a sort of World Cup bump, and the better, the US dollars, the bigger that will be four the leagues and the club game. And you know, people supporting their local teams. So if the US can do really well in France, this month, it could be a big deal for helping you know, get the word out money people. Now. Hey, women's soccer is actually really. Kaelin as I remember I've coach coach, my daughter Chiara. She just graduated high school. But I coached from the time she was four until the girls we're going to be nine in the pretty much the same girls for a four year period. And they gave you the option. You know they didn't play with goalies at that age up until they were six but they give you the option to throw the ball over your head to hand. Like you're supposed to do in the league or to kick it in from the side, and I always made my girls learn how to throw it in. I said, look, even if you make some bedrose don't worry about, even if they say, no good. It's violation and they don't care. I want you to know so that when you're six and seven that you're going to be able to do this, you know, with the, the memory coordination, and so my girls got really good at my, it was my probably my daughter Chiara favorite part of the whole game because even under high school team she could throw that ball further than any other girl with two hands. I mean throw at twenty five yards and just boom. It was pretty awesome to watch. But as I look at this country as far as lady, soccer knowing, that, you know, this is back in the early part. This is two thousand four and five you know that I started coaching her the grouse start young. And, you know, the, the guys do, too, but the gals really embrace it, and I think parents really get into soccer, you know, to get their girls out there and they don't have to be the most athletic. It's just being part of that team. And some of the gals, you know, just, you know, they when that team broke up they ended up not playing anymore, several of them continued on, but they really made some bonds together on and off the field. And I thought it was great. It's like, you know, the little party, you'd have at the end of the season, then a lot of gals actually stayed in touch, and connected throughout junior, high school, and then high school. And I thought that was really cool to come rod ary that gals are able to get like the kids, the boys in little league and, and, and the, the peewee football and things like that the pop Warner and. So the boys we always looked at our sons got to be involved in this. But it's so cool knowing that soccer the gals can really connect at a young age. Yeah. I mean team sports are really important. I think for kids that teaches them a lot of, you know, traits that are really important that translate into adulthood. And one of the beams of this book is, you know, the relationships between the players and the national team is oftentimes a really tight knit group. There are a lot of players who are friends with each other and still to this day are still very close and you have some other players that they really didn't get along with. But it kind of goes back to what I talked about earlier that mentality where book this is about what winning we can put our differences aside because we know that you are the best player at your position. And we need you if we want to win a World Cup. So I mean those are important things being able to work within a team that's important all levels, whether it's, you know, you and your daughter's soccer team or on the US, and that sort of. Something that I think is just part of, you know, being on soccer team. There's some really cool pictures that you have and every book that, you know, you got a lot of reading, but every book you look for that little middle section where you can find those picture, you have some great colored pictures, alley Krieger was, you know, just one of those gals that always played at a very high level and always putting a hundred ten percent, and then some and there's a time that she's injured but you have a picture there. We're all the gals have their forearms there with her nickname, I guess, on their forums. Can you elaborate a little on that? Yeah. Actually, one of the things you know, me and my editor talks about wanting to have some sort of picture gallery inside the book and actually most those pictures column from the players and people connected to the team we thought it would give the book a nice, sort of personal touch. I mean as titles adjusts, the national team that inside story the women change soccer. We really want us to be sort of, you know, behind the seat we had players and photos of the picture. You're referring to me by Heather Riley, Ellie Krieger is injured right before the Atlantic. She was actually injured during Olympic qualifying and that was devastating, because she absolutely would have made the team. She would've won a gold medal at that team. But she was injured so the players row leave. Which means law in German and Ellie Krieger had played in Germany, and she's German that was. Sort of a nod to her. They, they played with that on their arm just to let her now that they were thinking about her, even though she was back at home, and they were at the tournament. I love stuff like that. I mean, that's those little inside stories. And that's what's gonna make this great read again. Folks. If you're just tuning in the name of the book, the national team, the inside story of the women who changed soccer written by Caitlyn Murray Caitlin with a c- Caitlyn. The World Cup. Coming up on Fridays, I mentioned in France, a pretty good team. And they're on their home soil, but the USA out here in Vegas we always do the game within the game. So there's the there's the game they're going gonna play that. But then we have the odds on the game as well. And on the current World Cup and the ladies seven to four favorites. Little under two to one favorites. France next best at seven to two and France is pretty darn good and Germany's gotten pretty good as well. Brazil used to be a lot better when they have Marta. A remember one, one of the most dominant players and not as good, but England really up and coming and they started playing really. Well, you know, over the last. Several years. And they've given the USA some really good games overall as far as this team, going to France. I know you cover the sport. What are the odds in, in your guestimation that they win this whole thing? Yeah. I know that the US has been the odds on favorite. I am a little more skeptical for a few reasons. Number one, I think it's really difficult to repeat winning one on one side twice on side. I also think that US just got kind of a difficult draw the way it looks on paper in the quarterfinal, they will probably have to face either France or Germany. These are two of the best teams in tournament. They are perfectly capable of the beating the US. So I think that's a really difficult draw. And I think that defensively the US just looked a little bit shakey on the attack. US is very, very good. You can expect them to score a lot of goals but the US defensive looked a little bit shakey when they've gone up against top ten teams a multiple occasions, they've lead in multiple goals so that puts a lot more pressure on to be able to make up for that. And for bunch of polls. So for me. I think that France should be the favorite through talent level is very, very high. I think you know are usually the best team tournament, they are the host. You would think that's gonna give them someone. They're gonna feel comfortable and motivated. I think Francis my favorite. I would also look out for dark horse. If anyone wants sort of longer is maybe look at Austria, they have some anthem her of top are usually the best forward in the world right now. They're very good team. I would look at strata a lot of people aren't talking about them, but I think they could surprise everyone end up in the final. There you go straight. It was twenty five to one or now twenty two one and France seven to two the second favorite on their home soil. They're gonna try and do it. The men's team in the men's team ended up winning on front soil back in the day was done. Let's see the USA was Sweden Chile and Thailand. And I if I'm not mistaken. I remember USA. You know, just looking at it. I, I wanna say they're favored by five goals against Thailand. I mean that's four goals four four and a half. It's, it's just crazy to see that, right? About four and a half. Get November, Thailand or chilly, but the US is gonna be role pass them if the US doesn't the Chilean's island handily, there's a problem, let's start freaking out, but they should. And then the real game of that group is going to be the last game for the US place. Wheat and Sweden knocked the US out of the Olympics in twenty sixteen in the quarterfinal. That was the US is ever forced ever finish in a major tournament. So the US is going to be highly motivated against Weeden for that game. I'm looking forward to. Look, I love soccer at the level that you know when the gals get as good as the national team fish was talking about the men's team. I mean just watching, you know we, we love the when we see a quarterback throw a ball fifty five yards, and it's on the money. And a guy takes it in stride and goes for a touchdown. And when I'm watching, you know, just Champions League throughout and just when I see teams like Barcelona and Liverpool..

"So what's our take on the two on the wage gap? There was a kind of a discussion afterwards in my thing is I think everything should be equal, and then you should be compensated for winning champions jet. Your whatever championship you win. I feel like that's fair. Yeah, I'm pretty much in the same camp. The only thing an an draws me. I know how dumb. This sounds the only thing in my head is I don't know. I don't know how this money is allocated. I don't know how it's determined. What portion of ticket sales fucking advertisements TV deals all that can be paired with immense. Yeah. I I don't know the details of that. But I, and I don't know the specific numbers of how many fans women's soccer draws compared to men's. But from what I've read in the past. I I do know men's soccer draws more viewers in in average in in their games or televise more. So I think a wage equality is is a fantastic idea. But I think there are so many things behind the scene that needs needs to be addressed. I mean. Look if if the twenty what was it twenty fifteen World Cup in Canada drew x amount of players than I think the men's team should have nothing to do with that money. That was brought in and then same with the US men's national team if they plan turnament that should be their money the US women's national team they play in tournament. They get their prize money. They finish first. They get whatever that prize money is that's an only there. So I think a good comparison between like the WNBA in the NBA. I think would you think. No. I don't I'm sorry. I know that is not like fucking the popular opinion. So to speak in in this day and age, but I don't think you dessert. I don't wanna say deserve because that's not the right word. I don't want to send you down this crazy road. Starting man. I really heard the quo like shit people aren't gonna like what I think here. No, no. And I were the lease sexist raises people. The world.
