"Zero. So you know you can. I've had thirty four. Hit Ninety to offer run gun. It's not relevant at all but The got to be truthful about what you project. So Baba do we cover this topic thoroughly enough though philosophy about a toss just velocity back up to where it needs to be. I do WANNA go play catch with somebody so if you're in the DC area and you WanNa to play catch with me just hit me up. We'll go to the mall. Chuck it off the Washington Monument get arrested. Whatever are the Lincoln Memorial speaking? If you haven't figured Abraham Lincoln if you haven't I'M GONNA plug my new use video I I'm doing some different stuff. 'cause I enjoy it so I made a little fake documentary about Abraham Lincoln's careers. A baseball player so my youtube channel. If you're interested in hearing it's called historical scouting report if you WANNA get the scouting report on how good Abraham Lincoln was the player. You can do it so mu- so my youtube channel. I think it's I think it was fun to make. It was actually took like twenty hours to make that video so just abbreviated appreciate for the effort. That went into it. But I'm GONNA and honestly you I would have had. I had higher hopes for Abe lincolns talent. I think you know he should use it. Wasn't that good you know he didn't hit the weight room. He didn't hit the weight room early enough. Like just a waste of talent personally like he really had a tank Mary. Todd would not have been impressed from from the stance she. She wasn't a Cliche so that's for sure. No now but my next episode is going to be Jesus how good was he? Pretty NEAT occurred bom bought while I am going to put that to bed. I'm going to put that to bed forever. So stay tuned probably in two weeks. Something like that probably yeah. So what's the one last topic here? Bob How do you feel about aluminum? Bats or else. What else do you got aluminum bats? Aluminum bats are great for youth players. Because they are cost effective they kids sixteen and under breaking would bats at a if they had to use them at an exorbitant rate. They're just not going to be able to hit with bats Even the college got guys at US would like true. Wood bats not composite. That can't barrel the ball up consistently and for anyone that's used a would bat out there you know if you don't at least come somewhat in the vicinity the barrel. That thing is splintering. It's breaking it's you. You're losing a bat. You're losing one hundred dollars so in a perfect world. It's all would all the time but in the in the world we live in. Aluminum serves a purpose now. The cost of these aluminum bats is absurd. Like I don't know why you're buying a four hundred dollar battle over just your hundred that I couldn't tell you the difference of the color for some of these but I'm very I'm very pro would bad. I love using wood bats. I love Kimchi would bats. But I I don't see any way that even college baseball moves to would anytime soon. Yeah I wish they would. Maybe if there would maybe absorbs or kills chronic virus also for maybe goes into. Maybe it goes into the pores the would actually. Maybe it probably makes everyone less healthy. I don't know but we're going to have a Allen Nathan on the show at some point talk about Batson coefficients and stuff like that used a physics professor from the University of Illinois. He's like the the physics of Baseball Guy Talk to him. Why my previous podcast launching? He's awesome without the bad stuff. I mean the thing with metal batances when they make the standard for you know. Bb Core Nevada Ball Coefficient restitution. They're saying this is like this is a legal. Here's the bar. So when you buy a two hundred and fifty dollar bat it might perform here. Three Hundred Dollar Bat here for an hour bat is like as close to being illegal as possible. So essentially. That's what you're paying for when you're buying a more expensive bad is how close can it be to a legal. It just takes more engineer. More engineering and high tech materials and stuff like that to get a little extra own fat of it but is that worth it. It's hard to know like what's the difference between because they're not going to publish what the differences between the two hundred fifty dollar bat and a four dollar bat as far as them being close to that absolute maximum ball speed off the bat. It might only be like three feet on defy ball. We don't we don't know I don't think it's as big of a deal as people probably make it out to be. I don't think you're GONNA get fifteen extra fee to carry on a four hundred fifty dollars versus the three dollars. That seems also. Don't now that just seems it seems unrealistic that it would be that big of a difference in your swimming. The swimming the player himself as squaring off everyone perfectly one hundred percent every time like. That's it's really the Arena difference with wood and aluminum is when you get jammed with aluminum. You've got a decent shot of punching and over the Infield If you're strong enough you know if you're an adult college near worth would that thing is diane in the Infield. So you're GonNa Wales. You'RE GONNA get a few extra hits with aluminum. Just based purely on the how sturdy it is as a as an object. But it's not baseball you if you had a choice between the paying in that crack of the bat I mean that crack of the bat sends into all kinds of of memories from your childhood especially going here. First Baseball game. Or whatever I just hate the ping of a of a metal bat Noxious sound especially being an indoor facility So let's wrap up with two things number one. Bobby you congratulations to you. WanNa share your family. News my My wife Jenny and iron expecting our first child in November. So I made the joke said if you guys if I end up running away. You guys don't Don't don't come looking for me. But the our late November so the podcast will still be running. He'll be your favorite A you know I keep referring to. We don't know the sex yet but I keep referring to him as little Bob so if it's name should I name him? You could get. I think we should have posted on the on the twitter. See what kind of names we get. We have no girl names currently so with my sister who just gave birth to her second child two weeks ago which was kind of like an anxious thing like having a baby during coronavirus where I they didn't. They always on their two kids. So far they reveal the sex but not the name they keep the names private and Until their birth and so I sort of code named her Like silly like old school terrible name which was Agnes of the. That's your name or your your grandma's name. I'm not apologizing. It's just there's a lot of old names that you know have aged out. Essentially her name. The baby's name was Agnes for forever and it was funny because I like casually through like a anyhow. How are you agnes doing? And then it just took off where my mom's friends were asking my mom. How and Agnes were doing like like she literally became Agnes..

"The changes occur that's fine but that's also not the point of what i've been doing so you've got a recent piece let's see june twentyfifth yes the baseball different again an astrophysicist six examines the cheers baseball's falls in breaks down the changes now you've written like i said these three pieces in the changes you found to the baseball is what you found in twenty eighteen not seems what you found twenty nineteen so talk about the most recent piece first what what exactly is going on with the baseball now how does that play into these recordsetting home run patients were seeing across the game well the fall is august i mean as as the title says the ball is different an end when i think different i mean it is unlike anything certainly my study goes back as far up at least it looks like as far as around two thousand an all those balls for the most part seemed seemed to be the same a it's hard to find differences in terms of things like round this or leather smoothness there there's some differences but this ball is very different from all of them in multiple ways all look at any one of those changes would make the ball travel further a the the three big ones that were saying that the seams are lower as like half the hype which is unlike anything we've seen the ball is rounder 'em and then be the weather is also smoother and they got all of these are meaningful change caesar not trends of embattled while says a lot because for most of the things we've seen before it's only done trends if there's anything there's only one change i sound before so anything that one which was would not have been caught has not been looking at what kind of reaction have you gotten from major league baseball to the things you've published over the again over last year plot pointing out these changes for listeners who haven't really followed the story major league baseball has been fairly reluctant to admit that there are physical differences in the baseball that would explain or part of this home runs or how they reacted to set a date closest i've had to a reaction was before the first piece came out and they should just showing a physical change she had lace thickness this is for the ball associates twenty seventeen home runs search a dead i did reach out both to the home run committee dance to the front office at the front of the commissioner's office for statements a doctor allen nathan who's the terrible home runs committee did actually give me a statement a and the commissioner's office when they found the doctor nathan had actually provided me with some kind of reaction said that's official mlb response a after that i did have essay 'em i guess a small meeting with a couple of people from the home run committee who were interested in process and in very interested in how one makes laces which was sort of a it wasn't the direction i expected us to go an 'em than other than wonder to private conversations with doctor nathan a that's the closest i've had any response from mlb so there's been nothing from the commissioner's office except we said what they said back in a you know about over a year ago right those may of two may of two thousand eighteen with tyrone you got it well quite literally day light lie a oh there you go dropped on d day as a matter of a few weeks after their reports came out 'cause i remember down nathan a document it'd be on a conference it's called the media so you're about three weeks after that your piece came out a deadly astor raul handle being dropped the news that they had bought rawlings which was a total flipped out the fifth they announced the purchase of rawlings the six my article came out so now getting back to the changes in the baseball this year and i mean obviously i i've i've read all if you work on this but it seems like one that i would love for you to explain why these changes are resulting in baseball's going farther.

"But I mean, I mean have the thing with with feeding minor leaguers when I wrote that it was actually reading Dirk Hearst. And I was reading his book a on. He talked about that. And I was actually I remember I was on my way to a child psychology conference for work. And so I mean, it all kind of fit together, I was on the plane reading the book, and and sure enough there was this this idea that he brought up and I'm like, I should write about that. And and that's that's where it kind of cannot. And I mean. A lot of a lot of the stuff that I find interesting stems from the fact that you know, I spent way too many years in in graduate school studying human behavior in studying, human development and add. So I ask a lot of questions around, you know, how people make decisions, but then also how do people grow and change? And you know, when Hayhurst was talking about just how they ate on the in the minor leagues, I thought well, that's kind of fundamental right there. And it struck a chord with me. And then you know, I started doing Samantha around it. And, but it was it is something that I have always very very specifically tried to make a part of my work, and I will continue to try to make part of my work because I mean, it's just the way that I think I know there are a lot of people out there who who have made their Mark in in in sabermetrics writing who have also specifically, and I think for the benefit of of everybody brought. Who they are professionally into it? And, you know, whether that's you know, as in Allen Nathan being the physics the physics guy. And you know, he's an actual physics professor or some of the some of the people who have economics degrees. And and, you know, working from from that angle, you know, that it's it's something that, you know, I encourage people that, you know, this is something that seems interesting to you don't be afraid to insert who you are. And what you find interesting into your writing. Because you know, it's going to it. You are going to you might think, oh, nobody will care. But you know, when you when you find somebody who actually really knows what they're talking about an subject that. That's usually a really interesting person to talk to and hopefully a really interesting person to to read something that they wrote this is actually you are second farewell to the internet, which doesn't happen a lot. 'cause generally when an analyst writer goes to a team they stayed there..
