"There's pent up demand for face to face business meetings, conferences, events, networking, people are just starved for that, says Harvey of Southwest business. Southwest is hoping to capture those travelers by attracting companies who want to pay lower fares, but still want to travel, he says. He also argues that since companies have more remote employees now, there's a new class of business travelers who have to fly to headquarters a few times a year. But even people who've spent decades on the road say that the pandemic has made them realize that technology has finally made it feasible to have good communication without traveling. Tina Perkins, who's worked for epic systems, a Madison Wisconsin based electronic medical records company for 20 years says she loved traveling to a new city once or twice a month to help hospitals implement epic software, but she says I've been sort of shocked by how we've been able to adapt. Whereas effective in this hybrid world, which was surprising, having done some things one way for such a long period of time. She says she'll likely travel once every four to 6 weeks going forward rather than once every two to four weeks. Other epic travelers have made the switch, too, employees now take in total about a thousand trips a month down from 3500 before the pandemic. The hotels and airlines that figure out how to make their model work without business travelers are going to be in the best position going forward, says Anthony Jackson, the U.S. airlines subsector leader at Deloitte. During the last recession, airlines expanded their premium economy seats to attract economy travelers who were willing to pay for an upgrade, but not first class, and cost conscious business travelers. Now airlines will likely further expand premium economy in part to give travelers still worried about COVID-19 a way to pay for more elbow room, says Allen Lewis, managing director for LEK consulting. Delta said October 13th, that it actually made a profit in the three months that ended September 30th, and that premium cabin seats drove much of that recovery. Business travel is still less than 50% recovered the company said. Like airlines, hotels are going to have to think up new ways to attract traveler money, says raschke of mourning consult. They might decide to try and lure digital nomads who don't have to pay rent anymore and are traveling around the country as they work. Or they may offer what's called leisure business leisure packages to people who want to work and vacation all in one trip. That may attract travelers like Henrik's who still has to make some work trips, on his last business trip before the pandemic, Henrik attended a weeklong conference of the American banking association in Orlando. Since his in laws live nearby, he used miles to fly his wife and kids down to Orlando, too. They rented an air-b-n-b near the conference and he commuted back and forth via lift. Still, the American banking association is holding the same conference this year in Tampa, but neither Henrik nor his family are attending. There is a silver lining to Henrik's traveling less frequently, though, he says he's spending more locally..

"There's an awful lot of other stuff going on here. Let's move onto an interest which broken china yesterday an announcement that so at one point we had the one taunt petropolis in two thousand fifteen. Okay they you can have two children now. Couples can have up to three children. I'm because of some quite worrying. Census data showing a sleep a steep decline in birth rates. You think allen lewis. Why don't just have your snazzy. it's up to three. Why not just say do what you like. Well actually i mean in a way. That almost probably wouldn't matter because birth rates have declined across the developed world and across europe. Were very few countries. I can't think of any european country where the average birth rate is above three anyway in most countries. Now it's randle below the replacement rate and the problem with this is that there's been a rash of neethling policies in the last couple of years. So hungary's the rainy obvious example. Fake to auburn very authoritarian. Prime minister that said you know we don't Immigrants we want more hungarian so it was explicitly framed in this kind of xenophobic. Where they had kind of weird things like. I think you get money off a people carrier if you have more than four children. And i don't have kids so i can't speak to this but i can't imagine that for many people. The decision about three or four children is contingent on some money off for people carrier. So what you have. Is these policies that kind of ten birth rates into a political issue with that really. Actually doing very much them. And that's very worrying to me about when we the project of best rates across the developed world about web. That's going to go in the next couple of hundred years because really the rhetoric is gonna come. We've given women too much education and now they don't want to have kits and that's one underlies it as well as the kind of racist belief that children that their children being born in other countries. You know keeping some baharan african countries but not hey so actually going to be kind of drained out. And that's why you get the kind great replacement racist conspiracy theories coming at so. It's a really really tense and worrying subject and aside from vouchers for family. Cars wasn't huge cultural shifts. Aren't they actually. Just a tweak in government policy isn't necessarily going to mean all of a sudden everybody changes what they're doing. Because i guess if you if you grew up in a china or country where everyone was really just having one child you might end up having one child just because that's what's happening around you simply if you live in a world where people have loads more children your inclined to do the same so these shifts will take upset the ages to to change people. Yeah and it feels incredibly cruel to all of those who've been punished having more than one child and odyssey the most extreme end of that as forced abortions for sterilizations. But we're also talking about quite hefty. Fine so i have a relative who lives in china and he married a chinese woman and they have three children and he has been heavily falling for that. And it's really hard to enroll the lost child in any kind of education and childcare. All of that stuff. They make it incredibly difficult. So i mean for him to see. This is good news because he's not going to be quite so cruelly punished for that the difficulty for me. There's a broader point here. So how right. We're going to see massive demographic changes so nine jewelry which is carney about the seventh. Most populous country in the world is going to become over the next sort of seventy years. These second most populous country in the world. And you're going to have enormous pressure on resources. An i have been there fairly recently. But you know pre lockdown overseas and the queues of traffic in lagos are horrific. The pressure on all sorts of things. It's going to be is going to be terrible whereas china is going to see a decline in the number of people as as much of europe already starting or moving towards oversee migration sometimes means put patient continues to expanding for a while to me the thing that all governments going to have to look at because we've seen having a high birth rate in countries like italy and spain for a long time to dip and the problem with demographic is is that governments tend not to look at them. Because there's the long term problems child today on the workforce in in twenty or so years so they tend to be heavily neglected by governments. But for me the big thing. I just had a child is statutory maternity. Pay six hundred pounds not call a fool. It's be after workforce. We've set up a society that relies on two incomes and being out of the workforce is so wounding to your family finances. That that that that that's incredibly difficult. I'm ben the prohibitive cost of childcare as well. You know i was looking at that and around me which one of my expensive place joking in the country if the about hundred pounds a month well my word money last. Yeah exactly i mean. It's about the worst place in the country fulltime childcare. So i wouldn't have much money left. Wants to pay my mortgage that you sort of running to stand still essentially and obviously you only get any free childcare three. So you've got these two years ten she. You're incredibly financially squeezed. So that's what. I think that all country needs to cut needs to get childcare costs whether we're getting enough support to women when they're maternity leave and fathers are should i. You know put jannaschii leaks really important too because it stops this being a disproportionate penalty to women. And i'm reassured. Some companies have started to equalize. What men and women receive. I hate moma towards that going about the obviously the ongoing pandemic living through in a moment but first let more important matters the wedding that happened in downing street over the weekend. And this the interesting details at a slow to coming out to the papers about the extent The lengths that were going to try and keep it secret. I read this morning. How to louis. That carrie johnson rented three decoy outfits. Along with the white dress she rented just casing spotted them being carried through the front door. They wouldn't they wouldn't think that a wedding was very clever. I mean it was a quite a well next. He's i mean in a way you think. I wish that. They put her in charge of the kobe. Credit plan from everything that led could cause. You can put but yeah. I thought this was really interesting. Actually and the kogo returns are interesting. It's more than a kind of frivolous story in that point. Because we've got to this idea where. I won't pasta prime yesterday and there was a t shirt on a three pounds in the window. An cost of that is yes. It's three nazis but the cost of that both to the people who had to make that t shirt and also to the environment and other resources. That's taken up for for close to be so incredibly. Disposable is really high. And it's a really kind of one lives on fashionable things to say. But actually i don't think that kind of renting close is gonna make a huge denton in the program immediately but it is really interesting solution to to go kind of y by wedding dresses of one of the most wasteful things that you could. People are spending signs opinions on stuff. You're going to wear for six hours. It's extraordinary and the un. So that was that was really interesting kind of if that becomes something that it becomes more acceptable to do. I think both for people in a budget. That'd be really helpful and we'll check the environment too because wasn't easy for very important moments p people renting close men with took. Obviously i'm kilts for wedding..

Let's start with Andy Cohen and he grew up in ST Louis, where his family owned a food distribution company known as Last Co. And both of his parents worked there and as a youth, of course, So did Andy. The company's origins lay with the Andes. Great Grandfather Mandate. Lewis Allen Lewis came to America from Russia in the 18 nineties, when he was about 23 years old. He had nothing. Of course. He started out as a peddler, hauling his wares from farmhouse to farmhouse on foot before he was even able to afford awards in the cart. And he went on. He saved his pennies. And he found that a dry goods store that would eventually grow into Louis Allen sons and company and its acronym is last Go Now. A rival records show that Lewis came to America from a small town outside of the city of B, A. With stock in modern day Poland. It was at that time, part of the Russian empire located what was known that's pale of settlement. The records from the paler scarce we were able to show Andy Incredibly, the synagogue where his family most likely worshiped and to trace his Alan line. Their name was yelling Back in Russia. We traced the Alan line back to his fourth great grandfathers who were likely born in 17 50. A quarter of a century before the American revolution. Wow! Endings 100% Ashkenazi Jewish, but he had a beautiful, brilliant didna cousin who? Scarlett Johansson. Wow! On those. She's Scandinavian. Her mother is Jewish. And that's the connection. And now I'll tell you about Nina Totenberg need his father, Roman Totenberg was a world famous violinist suit. Let a truly epic life Roman was born in 1911 to middle class Jewish family. What is now pull it In part of the Russian Empire. He was a child prodigy and talents helped him survive and feed his family during the Russian revolution and the massive famines that followed that by the early 19 thirties, he had a fabulous career touring Europe in the Americas. And the statue is an artist's enabled him to immigrate to the United States as World War two loomed, But that didn't mean his family back in Europe was safe. After Roman came to America, his mother status, Wahba found yourself trapped in Paris, unable to leave due to American immigration quotas, and Roman Oh, Scott. It's so sad, desperately tried to get his mother out, found all these letters he wrote to all these government officials. And unlike the vast majority of European Jews, Nina's grandmother got out quickly because of that, the day after France surrendered to the Nazis standing Suada cross into port school the day after France surrendered. Wow! It was able to board one of the last ships carrying Jewish refugees to America, but that his mother has been saved. The family's ordeal wasn't over. His older sister need is on you, Nina. Stranded in Warsaw with her husband and child. When the Nazis invaded, Then fall of 1940. The Germans established a ghetto for Warsaw's Jewish population. You Nina's husband died in that ghetto, though you need to manage to obtain false papers and escaped with her young daughter, Miraculously. At least 10 of Romans. Many aunts, uncles and cousins perished in the Warsaw ghetto, and she had a famous didna cousin. And that was Carly. Simon. Really? Yeah. And of course I can't wait to see the show. "Day, as we honor the seventy fifth anniversary of that credible fight. I'm Vince Connie's alongside. Mary, Walter, good morning, a joining us. Now Allen Lewis Allen is from the Reagan DCA honor flight volunteers. Thank you so much for taking the time. Join us this morning. It's a big day. It is indeed. Tell us tell us about the work that the honor flight honor flight volunteers, do, especially for our veterans. And obviously, this is probably the last group of World War, Two veterans, you're really going to deal with, and now you're dealing with with younger veterans Korean Vietnam. It cetera. What do you do? Honor flight is a group of about one hundred thirty individual nonprofits spread out across forty five states in the US that was founded early in the two thousands to bring veterans to Washington initially World War, Two veterans to visit their memorials. Veterans at that point were World War, Two veterans at that point would have been in their early to mid eighties there. Now in their mid nineties, and probably would not have the opportunity to see the newly opened World War, Two more, which in fact, open to the public and may of two thousand four. Physician's assistant, a retired air force captain in. Springfield. Ohio was talking to some of his clients, and raise this question about getting to Washington to see their memorial and was told that they didn't have the wherewithal to do it. Perhaps it was finances, perhaps it was their failing health or someone to escort them. And this gentleman Earl moist by name. Was also a private pilot had his own aircraft and volunteer to take two of these veterans to Washington to visit their memorial. He talked among other individuals Keanu, especially some that were associated with Wright, Patterson air force base, in Dayton, Ohio, and they put together a package and make that made a first flight and brought twelve veterans to Washington in six different aircraft in may of two thousand five this was a year after the World War, Two memorial opened so that we think is the first on a flight as such. About the same time there was another individual Jeff Miller in hendersonville North Carolina. He was not a veteran, but had an uncle who served in the US army air, forces during World War Two, and he had a similar idea put together a group of people in North Carolina to do something similar only they didn't use private planes. They chartered aircraft to come to Washington. Didn't take long for the two of these two individuals to talk to one another. And shortly after that a national organization was founded headed. I planning meeting up in Baltimore near BWI airport. And within a year or two. There was a national organization. Coordinating organization called honor flight network in that kind of gets his to, to where we are today. Now Alan, what can we expect today? Are there honor flights coming in and will they'll, they'll be specifically World War Two veterans making the journey? To, to the best of my knowledge. There are no honor flight groups coming into Washington today. Okay. Much of the focus among the veteran community is, is what going on in Normandy. So we do get flights into both on to the DCA to Washington, National also to Dulles, and also to be, w y depending on where in the country, these veterans groups are coming from and veterans groups that are closer into Washington, and New Jersey or Virginia, Pennsylvania. Don't fly and they come in by bus. Now this obviously a fantastic organization, and I love this because I think it helps bring his closer to history because we don't do a very good job of teaching our children history. And if we don't learn it, we're doomed to repeat it. How does somebody listening to this? Wow. You know, I I love this. I want to get involved with this, but maybe I, I would assume you can write a check where you can do something. Volunteer wise. Like you do volunteer. Wise is what Rio always anxious to recruit here in Washington for for quite coming into national airport. But also for our companion.

And I still almost got into a fight. It was fucking insane. So turn around a square off with the guy fucking pussy, right? Then he's got a whole other bro of people that fucking back in him. I remember the end when we finally squared off. He took his fucking Sean, Merriman jersey off and fucking threw it down somehow in how how you know is really going down. Because he was. Like, he was all like, yeah. He was doing the big, you know, Colin puff will not lunging at you. And then someone would grab them then all of a sudden, he's the fucking Tasmanian devil. All I know is somehow. You know, the pushing and shoving and they will behind us. So they were going to be punching down. It would have been bad in. Fortunately security came up and. Any I'm telling you. I was I was in my late thirties four of late thirties. That's like I'm not looking to get into a fucking fight. I was excited. Like oh. This is another football stadium. I went to I was excited that I've been to a Padre and a San Diego charger game..

"Yvonne. The crown. John. Us. Folks. This is the show. Speaking of Jesus, I understand Jesus was a Jew. And I thought we need to get more Jews on this program. And so today, we figured we would get on Allen Lewis Rickman who I believe is is Jewish Allen. Is that correct? That's what my rabbi tells me. You rabbi tells you that? Now, can you tell people what your Email is without giving away the last part of it? Oh. Well, it's big big Heeb. I mean that that is so funny that every time I send you an Email. I go far. Now guffaw is not a Yiddish word what does the word for laugh to laugh? Bockel? With some cream cheese. What I want to spend. Okay. Sounds like the origin of laugh locking lug. Because here's here's a secret that people don't let people know. Of course, they dramatic route language here. Surprised rise. But so's English. The only difference is English as much older. So that you don't see the route quite as clearly, but but you're exactly right album. It comes from the same place where does Alvin come from got one, right? Okay. Listen, we only have a few minutes up because we have John Zimmer. Iraq, waiting in the wings ins Mirek is is a real character. But you know, what Alan Rickman, I think your character to and so I love talking to you. I want to get this information out again because there people one of the great things about New York is that people are looking for excuses to come to New York. And then say, what am I gonna do New York? And I'm here to tell you you're going to see heavier served raw and you'll thank me. And I will I will not. And I say, I told you. Okay. So have you served raw dot com is the website. Yes. And. It's a it's a very limited run. Meaning that it's not even like every day of the week like a lot of a place. It's it's a very limited run even during the few weeks that it's running. So people have to go to the website and check have you served raw. But I did want to ask you before we go. How did I should also mention the playroom theater, which is right in the middle of the Broadway areas. So in case, it's very convenient. How do you spell Broadway? Broadway. You know, something no joke. There is so much garbage on Broadway. People pay like amazing, hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Now. Hamilton is brilliant. I saw sixty two Waverly place with Elaine may amazing the boys in the is it the boys in the band, or what's the one where they go to use it by the band or visit from the band. Visit the band's visit is fantastic. But there's such like garbage spectacle real theater like what we're talking about. Right now are E R E A L theater. So I just want to say to folks have you served raw really Allen. You know this. We were we were just we were blown away run away been know what to expect and we got to have dinner with you afterward. And I thought how do I get to have was so great to pick up the tab for about fifteen people who was spectacular. It was incredible. I don't know who those cousins were but. Stable now. But seriously, what what you all do is fantastic. Now when you're not doing this. You know, are you looking forward to doing more Yiddish theater, you put this on and just sort of see how it goes. And then you put it on again. How does that work? I mean, it's because so many so few people even know about the concept, and again, if people like Alvin and me, and our wives who obviously don't speak a word of Yiddish could think it's the greatest thing ever. It has nothing to do with speaking yet. It's kind of a delight. But the comic acting of of you and your wife and Shane honestly, it is. It's just some of the best stuff. I've I've I've ever seen. So so my final question is what happens after this run. I mean, people have you served raw dot com, and they. You know, they see February. Whatever is the last date. What happens after that? I mean, you do this around the country. What's what's the deal? But well, we've been doing around our schedules, which is tricky is ongoing off to Pennsylvania afterwards to do a production of sunshine, boys. And then I think we're probably going to do something else in this in the late spring. But I don't know yet. So you're a professional your professional actor. Yes. New Broadway television. This is a professional actor. I I really I had no idea because the thing the production is rough. Have we said that it's it's very rough. Yeah. But you know, what? That's what Grace's for. Yeah. No, listen, Alan Lewis, Rickman, my friend. We are just thrilled that this is happening. Again, we will. Force ourselves to go back and watch it because we love it so much, and maybe we'll bump into some of our listeners there, but heavy served raw in New York. I hope people will check it out. We got smear wreck on the line, Allan. Thank you so much, and we will see you in the theater. Thank you there. Folks. I just I said we have John's Merrick waiting in the wings. I don't care about that. No. You don't know. We don't really have wings. But if we had wings he'd be waiting in them because look there he is John's Mira come on out. Good morning. I guess and I had the fun of seeing you in person. A few days ago in Dallas. And I have to say I wish he didn't live so far away because it'd be fun to have you on the set would be fun picking grin. Grand that happened. So early in the morning that I have no memory of it. But I am sure I saw you know, we psyche other twice research other at night in the morning. So you remember that ever the night? Now, you gave a great talk even though it was nine o'clock in the morning. I know but see for me, it was ten o'clock in the morning, and and that's the beauty of of living in the New York Times zone until you go to Europe. But that's another story. Nobody was great. We're going to have all that stuff online for people to see just so people understand what we're talking about the discovery institute. Put on an event of faith and science event in Dallas. And I did a Socrates in the city interview with the great Dr Steven Maier on his new book. It's coming out soon called the return of the God hypothesis. So we're gonna release that ASAP and then the next morning, I gave a talk pretending to understand faith and science, and it was really quite a performance because a lot of people bought it homeboy. But anyway, but John you live in Dallas and your friends with some of those folks. So it was just fantastic. Jay Richards was there. But I'm really hoping to talk to you about some current events. Today is is it Wednesday. It's wednesday. I'm confused because Monday, that's why I'm here to tell you it's either. Yes. So what do you wanna talk about first John's mirror act? Do we need to talk about the the Covington thing that just boy kind of makes me ill boils, my potato. Yeah. I've got actually a new article up. I this is something I I wanted to right before America had a break over the weekend. I was about sitting down to write this. And then I saw insanity about the coming thing. All right. Let's talk about that. 'cause 'cause it it is the elephant in the bathtub. I have a piece of stream dot org in response to something that route brought that up the New York Times was trying to be a centrist on this issue at the New York Times, the far right has to be centrist. Because you're not a centrist. You're obviously member of the K K K. That's the problem. The near is understands that to be moderate is to be a vicious bigot. So okay. So you don't have a single supporter of the president. No major newspaper has has someone who supports Donald Trump writing for regular. Okay. So we so right now, we have the New York Times has three conservatives David Brooks Ross. South at and Bret Stevens Brad Stevens viciously despises the president. We have David Brooks who has to take the position that anyone who writes for the New York Times knows the president is despicable. But he's going to be civil in. How he talks about the president being despicable. And then you have Ross doubt that who's a social conservative serious Catholic. And he understands that he can't really right about that easily because everybody knows that that really means being a bigot. So even coursed essentially endorsed Hillary Clinton a week before the election rust out that. Yeah. He wrote a column where where he said that voting for Donald Trump was analogous to shooting an abortion, doctor that it was an act of civil war within the New York Times. I wrote a response American. I have to say Europe on all this kind of stuff. I try not to be quoted me in it. He he quoted something I'd written in the article. So I noticed it, and I read a response to it. So anyway, but we're also talking about the Covington thing, and he wrote the or good rule for life was don't let your Catholic school students. Wear maga- hats on a field trip for the March for life. And that really kind of ticked me off. Well, that's very close to blaming the victim. Like, why did you wear that mini skirt? If you didn't want that guy to come from. Okay, now, hang hang on. Because you're quite right. We're gonna we're gonna go to a break we have Zamira for the whole hour, and then some and then we're going to talk about Oscar Wilde, folks, it's the Eric Metaxas. Show stick around..

"There's like I said there's so many questions with this team right now, it's hard to find any answers right now and anything that's sitting stone. One thousand percent agree with everything that you just said about I mean Francisco me here. Can he's to the point. Right. And he's got the ability that he can play the outfield and that flexibility is everything. I mean, if you don't have versatility in this league at this point, you're going to find her way in and find your way out very very fast, exactly. See his true value is is behind the plate. Because if you move them to see it's the outfield turns into an average slightly above average leftfielder. I mean on the real. So it's it's it's hard to say I can understand how the Indians wanted to maximize his potential now and get to quality relievers for their playoff run last season. So I can see where they were coming from the Padre fans are definitely happy. The Padres are definitely happy to have his number one catcher in within their system. It adds to an overcrowded system. It gives them more depth at the catching position. I mean when you're talking about behind those two with Austin Allen Lewis Tehran's Kemp Lozano hunt, Marcus green, there's a number of of young catchers in the system already. So adding Mahia to the top is just icing on the cake for for Padre farm system that is number one in in all the land. And they're number one in a lot of positions to let's just Austin Allen. You know, we just talked about the ability, you know? That's how hard it is to find catchers that hit us now. And how's that ability? I mean, he not only that. But he could also play first base. Just talked about versatility is Austin Allen close. Do we think he's he's spends time in Morello this year? Is it more of an Paso kind of year for him? And is he a piece that probably gets moved? I think that he put up a pretty decent year in San Antonio last year. He put a fifty seven PS. He was pretty consistent. His issues has been defensively. That's what the the problem or what the main thing that scouts pick on with him. Is that his receiving abilities? His arm isn't necessarily an issue. It's more of receiving abilities. In seen him last year in spring training. He put on a lot of muscle. You put on a lot of strength. And I saw a heard reports from numerous pitchers that they were happy with how he progressed defensively. I don't think he's ever going to be a gold glove caliber type defender, but he's a left-handed hitter with power very good size. And he's a decent hitter as well. He's not just going to be a power type bat he's going to be able to to potentially hit two seventy to eighty in the major leagues and and do it consistently. So he does have value. I can see him being of interest to certain teams. Eventually, I I would imagine he starts Paso. And I and I would imagine that the Padres have probably included him in some of their trade packages here and there because with hedges and Mahia above him. There's just sadly, not a place for Austin hedges at this point. I mean, he's she's twenty four years old. You know, he's older. Than than Mahia. He's he's a couple years younger than hedges is. It's just a it's just not a good organisational fit at this point. But there is definite upside with with him for sure I feel like I'm gonna say this a lot. But he's a guy that I feel like they missed his window, basically. Yeah. At this point, the pudgy is just traded in and signed a glutton of players they signed a numerous amount of starting pitchers. They signed numerous amount of young Latin infielders that kind of all cramp together at the lower minor league system right now, and they're kind of letting the cream by so the crop, and that's pretty much. What's happening? Allen was was drafted at out of a Florida junior. College of lever. Small a small college at Florida was was was I would say he wasn't. He wasn't unheralded. He was a fourth round pick. He was there was potential there. The the question was whether or not he was going to be able to stick a catch or be a left handed first baseman left hitting first baseman. So there's upside there with him..
