Pennsylvania ballot counting is delayed
"In Pennsylvania, they've announced that Allegheny County is not going to begin counting about 30,000 ballots. Until tomorrow. These systems are just broken. They're just broken. I mean that the possibility of undermining public confidence is so unbelievably high when you delay the count's this way when you're not counting through the night when you are delaying the counts. And obviously it's because of this patchwork of laws that have been created. That's not just on Democrats and Republicans. It was on Republicans in Wisconsin. It's on Republicans to a certain extent in Arizona. A lot of the message that air created here bipartisan message and they require natural cleanup. There's a reason that Florida runs this thing. Really tightly runs. This runs really clean shit when it comes to the voting count. According Crisp Otter. The reason why Allegheny County, which includes Areas that are very democratic and could make up the difference for the four for Joe Biden against Donald Trump in Pennsylvania. Right now, Trump holds a very slim lead in Pennsylvania. The reason that Allegheny County apparently is being delayed is because the ballots in question, according Chris Potter, who's reporter for W say, require special attention. The vast majority of the 29,000 involved situation where a vendor sent the wrong balance voters and then had to reissue new balance with the correct races. Challenges there. Now voters who have to balance one with the wrong race is you have to give those balances special security to make sure that a people don't vote twice and B. If they just send in the old one. They don't vote in races. They are eligible for us. You can't just scan them along with the rest. Other ballots in the pot include those that don't scan for another reason. When a team won't process the amount of the check. You want deposits. You have to bring it into the bank office when ballots required special scrutiny. The county records at the vote through return board whose members are sworn in and for that purpose. The board reviews the results tell it up by election workers after polls closed but also addressed his provisional ballots. Military ballots, etcetera. Board members are said to be sworn in Tomorrow, the Friday after Election Day. Is nothing in the fairy is here. The county's GOP chair is comfortable with the process. This is also not people just taking a day off. The other factors. The county has to wait until Friday for mail in ballots to come in there were postmarked by Election Day. That whole situation was adjudicated by the courts as faras the complaints that that Republicans have about ballots coming in after Election Day, they're not postmarked. Those ballots are in fact being sequestered there being kept separate from the other ballots until if the Supreme Court has to rule on that the Supreme Court will rule on that. As well. There are a lot of rumors out there right now regarding the possibility of voter irregularities and voter fraud. This is exacerbated by the fact that the Trump team is filing some fairly while predicated lawsuits. Apparently there's one lawsuit in Pennsylvania that they just had granted. It was an injunction forcing The trump ballot watchers to be allowed into The balloting areas. So this is it's all a mess. I mean, I think the short story here is is all a mess.
US 2020 election: Counting continues in key battleground state

Philadelphia Gears Up For Unprecedented Attention To Its Vote Count
"Is Pennsylvania looking? Let's check in with Steve Tower on that you know, In four years ago, there were more than four years ago, There were more than six million votes cast in PPA. And this year with everyone in the Commonwealth eligible for the first time to vote by mail, as he heard from our colleague Jim Mel word as well. All those 2.6 roughly million mallet and absentee ballots were requested. Statewide, so don't hold your breath. For a result. I'm looking right now and on Lee about 16% of mail ballots have been counted. At least half dozen county officials have said they are busy dealing with today's in person voting and will at least wait until tomorrow to start processing and counting all of them. The common wisdom, as we also heard from Jim is that Democrats would disproportionately But use the mail while Republicans would vote disproportionately in person, with about half the votes counted in Trump, leading by 14 points 56 to 42%, But still at this hour no numbers from Philly only about a third from Allegheny County and small or no percentages from the Philadelphia suburbs. Trump and Biden have visited Pennsylvania more than any other state during the 2020 campaign. With the president coming here. 13 Times and Joe Biden coming here. 16 times For a time. Philadelphia was going to be his national headquarters until covert struck, and then they moved everything down to Wilmington. Of course, Pennsylvania among the states that have extended the ballot deadline here in the Commonwealth, that three day extension, Trump claims its a mistake. It allows cheating Governor Wolf and other state officials say Trump is the one trying to cheat by blocking votes from people who want to mail in ballots. Because of concerns about the covert 19 pandemic, Andy, and by the

Absentee-Ballot Expansion Promotes Early Voting This Year
"Early than ever before, way more at 2.5 weeks before Election Day, Some states are already up to a third of their total turnouts from 2016. That's being driven by absentee ballot expansion all over the country because of the pandemic and a surge of in person early voting, But not everything has gone smoothly. We've seen long lines in Georgia and Texas and tens of thousands of mistakes with mail ballots. Joining us now to talk about all of this is NPR's Miles parks who covers voting. Hey, miles high there. So just how big has the early voting this year? It's been huge, more than 17. Million people have voted already, according to this database compiled by University of Florida professor Michael McDonald, and it's hard to really overstate how unprecedented that is. You know, it's about five times as many people who had voted at the same time in the 2016 cycle. Target smart. This data firm that works with Democrats has done some analysis on the initial numbers has been significantly more Democrats than Republicans, which isn't that surprising when you consider you know the sort of rhetoric President Trump specifically is used about vote by mail, But there are also some other interesting trends. You know, we're seeing more than seven times as many African American voters at this point now, as opposed to 2016 Which seems to be driven by this increase in early voting access in states with higher black populations like North Carolina, Georgia and Virginia. That's interesting. Well, we have been seeing pictures of these long lines at many of these early polling places. Can you talk about how smoothly the vote has been going so far? Yeah, There's clearly been some hiccups with in person and with vote by mail options, it seems like computer problems have contributed to a lot of the in person delays that people have seen photos off in Georgia. The database used to check people in was slowed down because of all of this traffic on the website. There were similar stories in Texas Houston Public Media's Elizabeth Tro Vel spoke to a voter named Renee, who spent nearly four hours in line going to three different precincts. I cry. I frankly think it's a form of voter suppression. There's no way there should be a glitch on the first day of early voting. No way and then you're gonna tell me I gotta one place and they say it's the printer. Come over here. This is the printer. Then they said the main system I've just never seen anything like this ever. You know this is a tough problem for election officials. Obviously, no one should have to wait that long to vote. But we also knew the pandemic, combined with potentially historic turnout would be in some problems for in person. Voting and lines do usually get better, I should say after the first couple days of early voting the wait times in Gwinnett County, Georgia, for instance, which was showing waits at 234 hours earlier this week on its online tracker today, when you look it was mostly under an hour. Well, what about voting by mail? I mean, a lot of people have been worried about the post office handling so many ballots are those concerns justified so far. Yeah, I mean, we've seen a lot of administrative errors, reports of administrative errors with the absentee balloting. Just yesterday in Pennsylvania, Allegheny County announced that 28,000 voters got mailed the wrong ballots, but it's also important to realize scale. We're talking about thousands of ballots, but 80 million ballots have been requested nationwide. Here's former deputy Postmaster general Ron Stroman. Despite some of those concerns, things were going at this point I'm reasonably well, Stroman said. It's important to remember that if you're hearing about a mistake at this point in the election, like in Allegheny County, for instance, officials realized their errors early enough to send out new ballots and fix the problems. That is NPR's miles. Parks. Thank you, Miles. Thank you. One company

"Allegheny county I takes a fact and what does that mean who's involved could this be statewide soon we could sit here and pine all day long or we can talk to somebody who actually knows stuff and he's a Pennsylvania state representatives in the thirty ninth district which is Allegheny county and Washington County parts of Bethel well Bethel park Elizabeth South Park Jefferson hills it said Iraq he is Mike Skerik hello representative how are you Sir how are you Wendy I am doing well okay so I was really delighted to be able to talk to you earlier this afternoon Sir because I think a lot of people need to know what this means why now and for how long what do you know well disposed to shelter in place notification was sent out the alligator alley essentially that is just reinforcing what the governor has already put out but for the folks out there listening the reason we're doing this county by county is because we have to hit a certain threshold of the number of cases Polk County before they're going to implement this so it's very possible we could see a similar notice sent out to other counties that are surrounding the area it's just those have not been sent out just yet we are waiting for some test results to come back which once we have those we should be able to make that determination all right congressman tell me is this how are you all handling this is this some something that alarms you as it alarms the common people out here who are listening because it is frightening we definitely have some busy day journal thirty nine right now but the biggest thing we want to convey to the folks out there home as well the business owners is that we are working for an end point on this we're not just going to let this the shutdown continue on forever we are going to try to give the governor some I guess parameters to work and our work with them if you will so that this just is not continue to drag on our economy and ultimately hurt several people for one case as well gosh damage done my man I just got mine yesterday and I threw in the garbage actually I shredded and I'm like I don't even want to have the ability to look at that because it's so sad but for all of you were listening right now the congressman has a has a great Facebook page and I encourage you guys to check it out and and why don't you tell them how they can find your information so they can follow along because I think we're gonna really rely on our elected leaders now more than ever to help us with factual and timely information Sir what absolutely so if you would like to look me up representative Mike scared I'm gonna look at my legislative Facebook page it will be keeping that up to the minute updates is forced out the grass but I will tell you when the right now some of our top priorities are trying to find medical equipment so all of the state legislators from across the Commonwealth have been tasked with trying to identify companies that are out there in the Commonwealth that may be able to supply these medical masks very safety equipment the first responders and medical medical personnel will need so if there are any listeners out there that have the ability to produce the faithful facial mask the N. ninety five mask any of those shields they can use in the hospitals please reach out to your state level elected officials and we can get you in contact with the PA chamber as well very state agencies that that will be assisting in these matters are so congressman this stay at home kind of shelter in place a fact is happening tonight eight PM and it's going to be in effect for two whole weeks so tell me what does that mean we can do so essentially organs and everything you can do now go to the grocery store go to your doctor anything that the necessity you can still go about your business the biggest thing is we just want to try to eliminate eliminate any sort of non commercial travel at this time if you look at the way these models spread on the more people that are out earlier on the quicker it's going to spread more people that'll have an impact on and ultimately it's just going to put a strain on the healthcare facilities we have all across the country so it it just based on the Pennsylvania model it does look like our numbers are increasing but our hope is we'll be able to flatten the curve a little bit here in the coming weeks right and that's certainly the objective alright so as for businesses we throw this nonessential word around so are the businesses that have been opened thus far gonna continue to be allowed to do so so again the thing sort of thing applies if you are in central business or your supplying other central business as an example that that came up the other day we had a company that makes powers all the power don't necessarily is in the central business they were working directly with one of our suppliers shipping Clorox all across the country since late so we told them please stay open please keep those you know those the the trucking routes right the supply lines open so that way people can still get the supplies they need because as we start to identify some of these companies within our Commonwealth that may be able to supply the rest of the country with mass we still want to be able to get some of those products I'm gonna throw you a curve ball here I did not set you up for this but I do know that when you're out and about in your meeting people and people are getting in touch with you there's always a silver lining there's always a slice of goodness out there do you have you bumped into somebody who's done something wonderful or a business that you'd like to tell us about you know what I I have been blown away at some of the businesses on thirty ninth district we have some tremendous restaurant that that really stepped up started offering meals to folks for free for their children you know different things like that so we really appreciate that but it it it's really just been great to see our community come together we had a a business that was actually investing in ice cream and right before they were scheduled to open but they had to donate that ice cream I believe to a bunch of senior citizen centers because they want to be able to let go through so there are lot of people are starting to starting to realize that people hurting people what people need to pull together here yeah I really think that that's one of the best things about the United States of America and we've always found a way to warm up for some stuff for cell blocks and you know bounce back a grade a hundred percent Mike you have my phone number now so please when you come across a good news story like that please let me know and I'll I will get it on the air because I think now more than ever I think we collectively need something good and kinda hold on to so I would be forever in your debt Sir so absolutely what they thank you so much I appreciate your time and any updates you have just let me know we'll get you up here okay I will be happy to keep in the loop thank you thank you so much Sir appreciate your time stay safe out there again that's congressman Mike to Skerik he represents the thirty ninth district this is a smart dude who knows what's going on we appreciate his leadership and time.

Larry is with the pit football team played tonight. A rare Friday night game down in Virginia. And so Larry is gonna wake up early this morning and go to Thomas Jefferson's house Monticello. Yes. Cello which I believe wasn't Thomas Jefferson. The first one to install indoor plumbing that I don't know. I know that he did some things with like dumb waiters and different things in Monticello that were architecturally really really interesting, and and time savers and things like that. But it's a fascinating property that it is really really an amazing place. It is I I remember touring it and Larry's going to do that. He's going to join us live later on this morning from there, and we're just going to get our mind into a weekend mode and just kind of try to. Relax and enjoy a Friday into heading into a weekend. "Have some economic news it's positive I wanna talk about that today and. Just how much that impacts. You this is about the second maybe the third time. I've tried to launch this topic. I, wanted to do it yesterday obviously we have robust, conversation related to John McCain again, a, move away from that today presumably but again over the course of three, hours in particularly twelve to, three somebody will do something stupid that's short and therefore will. Have something to, talk about it and of course. I don't mean anybody in particular it just seems as if there's always something, that happens between twelve and three having said that I am focused on the, economic. News is being. A positive obviously Even more. Positive slightly so with the GDP for the second quarter being revised upwards to, four point two percent what's at dawn, for, you. And when I say I've, tried, to do, this, before I wanted. To do what I want to say the day that the inspector general's report. Came down. All five hundred pages and we were basically doing it in real time. In is that was happening. Obviously it blew away the one topic that I thought. Could sail through the course of. The, day but that's just how this works and speaking, of economics and dollars and cents, I, wanna talk about you in another area it's not a lot of money, relatively speaking it's one point, one six million dollars but the Pittsburgh Allegheny county sports and. Exhibition authority is, asking the rat of course that. Would be the regional asset district to earmark that much money about one point, two million in sales tech revenue next year to help with capital repairs and, improvements To PPG David Lawrence convention center PNC park in Heinz field Now again relatively speaking considering how much money has. Already been set aside already committed to an already funded publicly it's not as if this is going to make a. Break anybody to be perfectly honest about it unless it does and what I, mean by that is not even so much the financial part but the philosophical concept of. Continuing to have tax, payer money be dedicated towards these. Venues on the one hand that's a cost of doing business if Pittsburgh is, going to be a major city when it comes to sports we've, long argued that that's something that is important. To not lose and that. Would. Be a professional sports team let alone a convention center, also once you, start down this road which was started many many years ago this is just a natural extension of it again Supplemental addendums and agreements and things of that sort of only, added onto it for years now when, you consider, as well however that these teams in particular make an ungodly amount of money compared to. Well just about anything I mean sports franchises in the ranking rankings annually are a big deal not just league to. League but within each league and on the one hand we want to root, for our local teams to do really well in terms of value because at provide stability. And I guess some, feeling of civic pride if you. Somehow can on the flip side of that when they're making that much money, why something as small as one point two million dollars to come, from taxpayers actually they want to fund this. Through what's called a multi. Facility. Reserve fund and to be perfectly honest while this is, in addition to, about thirteen million dollars it's Annely put aside that Is allocated by the rat I have to say that this is more of a philosophical discussion, than anything else there are a lot, of people as pointed out in the. Post, because at this morning still aren't really particularly thrilled by how this thing. All started that's water under the dam on the flip side of that you're still, being asked to pay money One point two million. Dollars again when you spread it around it's the cost of doing business But why should you be doing the business is the. Question eight six six three nine. Hundred ten twenty eight six six three nine one ten twenty I want your thoughts on that and again we'll get more into the details as relates. To this, growth in. The economy that consumer spending which makes up seventy percent of the economy it's very very important when we. Go out to shop is is a huge indicator and the latest reports. And Associated Press show significantly that Home Depot Kohl's best buy target are actually having a resurgence there was a time when many of us thought that this was a stretch where we're going to see a lot. More bankruptcies and a lot more companies just. Not be able to stay with what was happening alternately result in, what's called a retail apocalypse well looks as if right now with the economy stronger more options faster at the brick and, mortar stores and previously where the case better and, easier websites and things of that Sort that a lot of these companies are doing much better and I've only given you a few Now once again a lot of this has to do with the fact that Amazon is dictated the terms of engagement and, Amazon is not only the big four hundred pound elephant in the, room on everything it seems like but. That's where many go in order to do their thing online and that's where people go, to shop, there's no question. That there are certain pieces of the puzzle that. Do fit more comfortably for, instance online than, others I'm not one, to want to buy clothes online I got, a feeling well first of all I never buy clothes but if I. Ever do go buy clothes I'm going to buy. Clothes that I could feel touch and as well we remember from the great days on Fifth Avenue downtown case could fit any man which is apropos to nothing except for the few that just got that So in some ways this is a response by these large multi multi billion dollar companies to Amazon, it's anti Amazon in that Spurs on all types of things such as how these changes have affected you. Have they affected you are you on online or more than you were five years ago, do you, anticipate continuing to. Be an online or are you getting more back. To the brick and mortar, and for that, matter the bigger question, that I have which I've been wanting to, ask now for forty eight hours is despite this economy being stronger their. Reports at about forty percent of American families struggle. To meet at least one of their basic needs last year including paying for food healthcare housing and utilities We need to talk about how to wrap our skulls around that because that's not, good enough despite what's, happening, at, the top That conversation and many more through the course of the next. Three hours join us toll free eight six six three. Nine ten twenty, text line of course brought to you. And two in general It's an indication we aren't taking things just at straight up face, value most of the time because you're getting called on it or somebody raises their. Staff he has the biggest desk of all of, them and it was a sign of him holding up and the true signed said something completely. Different And, the young Republicans Abella Gainey county changed it to say something utterly completely not what the okay The young Republicans admitted it was today it was a fake They're trying to inspire the walkaway movement and Allegheny county by. Putting up bad propaganda by by a b. Plus Photoshop gig really And that's the second time I've seen that phrase lock away, movement The first thing I think if you saw the original Mad Max Walk away Just walk away and he doesn't bonds a chain, of movies What walkaway is And we know this if you're, on social media anytime you put the hashtag would used to be kicked, TAC toe thing but we had to cool it up. For the kids it's it's, not a. Hashtag, anything hashtag well. That's a movement it can be a movement of one or it can be a movement of people that aren't even in this country or it can be a movement that exists with Photoshop. And stock photos that was the second part of. This second time I've seen this story the first time I saw this. Walkaway movement stuff it was a story of the people appearing in. These little blurred these photos aren't any part. Of a movement they stock photos like when you go and you need a photo and you don't wanna pay the. Rights to it And it it's propaganda The GOP said it's obviously shop and big, news then would then why? Did you do that if, I'm a young Republican the last thing I want, to do is, say I'm here look we. Were kidding fake news that's the calling card of disagreeing. "Allegheny county doesn't do something you're wearing during his time start may the first of next year they could be still using the well it's quite a quite a step up and gasoline prices let's hope it doesn't come to that but as you say there there's no way really that allegany county is going to get that approval from the federal government before pretty much before the end of the summer so there may be a month or so when gasoline prices here really spike yes yes that's that's what i'm predicting now you know i can the seasons i was going to be a nightmare come come august before don appreciate your time we'll keep our fingers crossed as it comes to the gasoline have great summer and you too thanks don bowers who's with countywide petroleum wholesaler based outta mccandless apologize for the quality of that cell phone line we can get a man to the moon but you know self cell phone signal maybe not but the deal again is is because allegheny county still needs approval the health department does and has to seek approval to eliminate summer gasoline that cleaner burning summer fuel here that we're going to be continuing to use it likely through the end of this summer through the middle of september whereas surrounding counties it goes away because they're under the state dp control and the state has already won that approval from the ep so we'll have to watch gasoline prices here very closely to to see what happens as of mid august that's when that that split takes effect we've been following this story of these twelve boys and their soccer coach in a cave in northern thailand they're trapped and thorny say they're not at least immediately attempting an underwater evacuation of those boys that's what it's gonna take let's get the latest on the story from cbs ben tracy encores are not expected until later this weekend and that is why these crews are working so quickly to try to pump as much water out of the cave as possible before those rains happened the oxygen levels in the cave are also dropping due to all the rescue workers that are going in and out of the cave that is increasing the urgency to get the boys out even if it's not completely safe right now to do that and of course you've probably heard that during all of this a former thai navy seal member has died from lack of oxygen in this rescue effort as they've been going back and forth but they're not yet ready to attempt this underwater of accusation of these twelve schoolboys their youth soccer players and their and their soccer coach trapped in this cave in northern thailand katie kyw news.

"Interesting observation of by one of my close friends who's absolutely the best reported that ever broadcast in pittsburgh ralph i naughty more than one hundred twenty police departments in allegheny county there are only three african american police chiefs williamsburg braddock and rankin by the way it goes back to my initial conversation at the top of the hour that i'd like seeing the protests i do is peaceful protests and seen one police car burned or turned over nobody a handful of arrests i mean we're talking about thousands and thousands of people if i could have any beef and this is just my beef but everybody has different approaches to these things it's disruption of traffic and for various reasons that we've kind of discussed at nauseam so i respect and admire the protests i do i get it i like to hear here's my deal i always tell people this either speak up do something about it or shut i always tell people this all the time always say why are you complaining to me go in there tell the boss i can't do that well then don't tell me i'm not going to go in there for you i'm going to teach my kids to do the same thing i find the best way to make a difference as to professionally kindly speak up honestly and so for folks who are complaining or upset that they're seeing all of these protests on the streets to heck with you go away shoe fly can't have it both ways you're angry when we have an apathetic community but then when we have a energetic energized committee committee of folks on the move a community that's works you're angry about that too okay fine you just angry in by the way i believe it'll make a difference and i point out did this before we spoke to hottie to socialist candidates to females no names out of nowhere campaigned hit the streets hard and beat the costa's seriously beat them entrenched iconic set for life politicians in our sees a pal i'd be taking a look at what's happened to him is this young talented assertive african american attorney from the public defenders office saying hey it's time for a change i admire anybody that steps up now if you start getting personal ambitious and scandalous and slanderous and all that crazy ridiculous political nonsense then you jump off your train but i respect and admire anybody that's trying to make a difference pretty cool regarding a haughty hannah that's fascinating to me what what's happened in our town if you don't think these are good things i suggest you think again to imagine and i grew up over there and if you see fitzgerald on the street rich asking the same thing to imagine that these were communities and t grew up there these are communities said nothing in fact she was just telling me that there was one restaurant in the entire neighborhood when she grew up in garfield and it was an old kentucky fried chicken and it's gone and up until about five years ago there were only two and now there are eleven restaurants hoti hannah made an excellent excellent point and i tell you what the point and i love this in the point was that you build these resurgences around community what's he mean well you got coffee shops she got hipster restaurants you got some really cool small businesses there's a vibe in in garfield along penn avenue and by the way we failed to mention how much having children's hospital right in there had to do with this look we've already called out the strip district it's insane what's happening in the strip it's unbelievable we've already rot watched what's happening in east liberty it's amazing you scratch your head you bring folks from from the burgh who moved away you bring them back in their in their jaw drops my hope is and we're seeing a trickle of it that the next community that gets all kinds of love is is wilkins berg and the hill district and there's folks out there that are leading that's what it takes to i've mentioned carnegie it's amazing what fetterman has done in braddock is amazing more victories than defeats why look over to my left and my.
