"Parker is one of the most underrated players in the league and has been for her entire career. One of the most underrated pickups of this entire season is Alicia grey go into Atlanta, which I think is huge. But the biggest thing that I think could help this team get themselves into an actual playoff position is the not official, but the talent wise return of AD der on the court. Because one of my favorite draft picks we'd ever have, I loved watching them play in Louisville and in due to everything that they had to deal with. That der had to deal with the sickness and COVID and not being able to play at a full level. I think this is a chance. And I think it might have an impact for Atlanta. Atlantis fun, and I think they have the potential to get somewhere in the mix. The mercury is at 6 and I just, sorry, dang it. The links are at 6 when they think that's just because I pretty much had them at 6 for the last 40 years. But that's a good team and a good roster and I expect a lot more just I expect them to grow a lot more over the next couple of years. I just don't think Cheryl reeve knows any other way to coach team. So I could see them in a higher position over the next couple of years. But I like the pieces of what they're putting together. I've got the mercury at 5. That's another one that just kind of feels right and makes some sense. They were a 5, by the way, when they were lost in the finals. I'm not taking the mercury to the planet. Just to be clear. I'm not doing that. But I do have the mercury 5. I think they'll put some things together. I think one interesting is taking point. Obviously, is how would we expect briner to play on the court? But also, scattered against Smith will not be apparent this year, so it's going to be an interesting case for them there. If you've been playing along this is where it gets interesting. I'm scared. I've got the Dallas wings at four. This is where Logan and I are on a totally different way. I'm scared. I have no logic to fully explain this. You made the point that you thought the roster did get worse. And in some ways, yes, because we all, I think, could be an agreement that we thought if you actually put a lot of energy surrounding Marina mabry, this team gets better. And I agree with that. And I was really upset to see her leave Dallas. That said, I'm kind of in love with this roster. I kind of really a lot of what's going on. Yeah, and I think they're going to over perform. I don't know why. I don't know what to tell you. They have a former rookie of the year in crystal, dangerfield. They're actually one of the most conveniently sized team. If they actually give a sense of play, Natasha, Howard has high potential to make some noise there, then you look at Tierra McAllen. Yeah. Yeah, mccowan, saw two saw Lee's playing on. They basically took a lot of those like lottery first round picks that the other teams didn't invest in and that took all of them. We're building the whole plane out of the first round. Who we haven't really seen before yet and could be a huge move for them. Obviously Mattie seegers has the potential to make a lot of noise. We're not going to really see much of diamond shields unfortunately, but like this. Ashley Jones, there's just a lot of cool potential in this team. And I guess the main question I have is a review gumball Wally going to allow that to grow. And to work and to develop. And I know she's not the head coach, so that sounds funny, but is this going to be a case where she kind of tries to shoulder this entire team herself or is she going to try and elevate the rest of that squad because if they work, they're actually one of the best big teams size wise and could be a defensively stout and could make some things happen. That said, my four could be an 11 and I wouldn't lose any sleep. It would be the exact, like I would expect the exact same. That's how weird that these predictions have been, but I have the wings at four for that reason. I keep looking at the roster and they just keep liking what I see. I don't have any stats to support anything. I'm just going off my gut here. The mystics are three for the exact same reason that everyone else has talked about it. I think if there's any team that is going to disrupt the flow of this crew, it's going to be Washington. And I think Dell Don could be a big push for that. But that's on top of some other building blocks that have been looked over. Natasha cloud is a whole different Natasha cloud than in 2019. And is going to stand up. I think Shakira Austin has the potential for and I'll start live performance. Do I necessarily think that means just going to be an all star? Not necessarily. But I think it's within the cards. Ariel lacking has improved. Yamiche Heinz Allen has improved. If you've got the return of Christy tolliver, which basically means you've got the best assistant coach in the league, playing on your roster, Amanda zawi B, is defensively stout, I like this team a lot. I think they're going to believe they can face up with any team in the league. They're going to be fun to watch. I have the liberty at two for every reason that Logan said, I have the aces at one for all the reasons Logan said. That's my 12 to one. Very cool. I'm really glad we didn't discuss rankings before we opt on mic because I literally filled out your 12 and year one through three before you even started. But I had no idea what teams you were high on, what teams you were low on. And it definitely affects how I think about my own rankings now looking at years next to my. So I'm excited for Jason's to further obscure what I think about some of these kind of mid tier teams. Well, I hope I don't. I'll try to go through each team. So I'm going to do this a little differently. And I'm sending you guys a picture right now in our group chat. I legitimately went through and wrote down my one through 12 and then just for kicks and giggles because we've been having this conversation. I completely inverted my four through 12 and it seems just as reasonable. So Jason, oh, that's true. Jason has a habit of going last when we record stuff like this and always fun twist. There's also one very, very specific note that I'm so excited to hear about. Jason, I'm just going to let you have the floor you have as much time as you might go for it. So anyways, I will talk about each team briefly and kind of give some of my thoughts as to where they are and what my thoughts were in terms of my rankings. That being said, here's how I'm going to do my rankings. Oh, I'm guessing you guys were responding to one of my spoilers. At number 12, the 2024 Toronto ice. The Toronto ice currently named the Indiana fever are going to finish in a dismal position. I think less than 5 wins.

"Want to say that a player like Leah Boston is enough that they wouldn't squander that pick immediately after taking them up, but after the last four years, I just can't say that. I have no idea how they're necessarily running that team. They may want to say that some of these players haven't been developing the way that they've wanted them to. And that's a fever problem. That's not a problem on any of these players. And then after dropping a player like this, the Henderson, I just don't fully understand what's going on here. I would like to see this team flourish, I would like to see a lot of high level talent coming out of here and see some things pick up. I think just about everyone in one way or another wants to see the seam succeed because we don't necessarily want a team hit the pit of obscurity and run into problems, but you've given me no reason to believe in that. And that's unfortunate. So the fever are going to be at 12. This is where things get really interesting. The Connecticut sun I have at 11 I think they're drop off is as big as any team we've seen in a very long time. You lost your head go to was kind of the core to making that entire roster work. You lost your MVP. I don't necessarily see this team being cohesive. Do I think they're going to be in the tank for a long time? Possibly not. I think there's potential for them to maintain some things. And they've picked up some talent that I think is formidable. I actually really like, for instance, a Beck Allen is one of my favorite players. And I like the potential of what she can do over there. So there's going to be something there. But I think for one, the 9th through 11 are probably all going to be within like one to two games of each other for me. It's going to be a closer run, and I think I see them on the outside looking in. I also have the sky with a big drop off I have them at ten. I'm just not seeing them when I look at their roster. Look at the core of that team and what's made that team successful is more or less wiped out. Outside of paleo copper. Now, this glee convert the type of layer that can work with Courtney Williams and Elizabeth Williams and potentially help that team pick up some momentum and do better and potentially make the playoffs? Yeah, it's possible. I'm just not feeling it. I think this is an outside looking in and is a really good case to see just how effective James wade can be as a coach. And how he responds to this year's performance is actually what I'm most interested in. Not even necessarily this performance, but where we see things. Also, if this is their bid, as the market closest to, I was sitting if this is their bid to take a back seat for a couple of years and suddenly be in the Caitlin Clark sweepstakes, kudos to you. That's a good point. So I'm almost expect them to intentionally take 12 in that case. So there you go for that. I have storm just barely missing the playoffs at 9. I expect Juul Lloyd to put in big numbers. I actually expect this team to overperform what some may believe. I think there's a lot of potential for them to make some things happen, and I don't necessarily see their gap between 8 and 9 being huge. But it's just really hard to believe that they're going to outperform when you just there's so much of what's made the storm the storm over the years is now gone. And a lot of the spirit of that is gone. And it's going to be hard to see how that picks up. Very intrigued to see where Julie responds to this. If they really try and put a non a separate effort to build a team around her, or if she's going to be living elsewhere next year, it's going to be hard to sell, but I do have them barely losing out in the playoffs. With that said, I have the sparks at 8. In an only just situation, I like the improvements that they're making. I don't know that there are enough to do much more than that, but they were in the tank last year. And so a playoff appearance, I think, is more than enough for them. Also, given all of the insane drama that's gone on in aces sparks match up or a liberty matchup are both pretty spicy in the first round who knows how that looks. Number 7 I have the dream and about ten minutes ago I had the dream at ten. So I don't know how I'm feeling yet, but I gave this roster another look. I just kind of pulled them up again. And there's a lot to like about this. I'm going to say this Atlanta might be the most fun team that isn't going to be considered a super team this year. They have just a lot of really fun talent. That's on top of the fact that I expect Ryan Howard to potentially play it and I'll start a level. Haley Jones, I wasn't high on his draft pick, but damn it, the dream kept her and not a lot of teams kept their draft picks this year. And I'm going to give that some stock and I'm going to believe in a Haley Jones against my own judgment because they actually held on to her and that's a good thing. But I think you're going to see a lot more coming out of every McDonald's. DRAM is always a great veteran having your team shine Parker is one of the most underrated players in the league and has been for her entire career. One of the most underrated pickups of this entire season is Alicia grey go into Atlanta,

"I mean, you're getting a proven score. You're getting somewhat size, but Maddie seegers is 6 one. And a player who's had to do so much for the last four years. To finally be able to kind of be a role player on the squad potentially. And I probably hope dramatic figures. Oh, yeah. No, I think, you know, yeah, we've all said it, right? Like, what is Dallas's plan? Apparently they're playing in this draft was to get white shooters. Every single one of the graphics is white and every single one of them could shoot. Probably just a coincidence. But Dallas, they did lose Marina bay. And I guess you do need 6 shooters to try to replace her because you just kept stacking up these picks and Maddie being the first one and Maddie was the one that I thought really fit with what they're trying to do. I mean, you look at where this team is, they don't have a ton of shooting anywhere, really. I mean, just the hypothetical shot that we haven't really seen. Burton, her shot came around, but she's not necessarily a shooter at the point guard position. Tash Howard, can she three is not her game and then tiara McCall just doesn't step outside of the paint. So now you're looking at this team that doesn't have a ton of shooting, can use a bench or someone to handle the ball on the bench. And just like a secondary scoring option to attack from the other side of a rique, I think Maddie is going to give them that along with that shooting. So she can be on the floor a little bit more with the riquet and kind of help on the backup lineups and play with all of Dallas's town. I just think she's a really versatile fit for what they're trying to do. And they have enough defensive talent, I think, to kind of cover for her in a lot of ways. Yeah, it's valid. And I mean, I mean, it's weird seeing a team essentially get three straight bits because of a trade, which will be able to talk about that. But yeah, I mean, if you, if you think about kind of the ceiling of Maddie, I really can't put context to it. Could be amazing. Like, could be an absolutely amazing player if she develops a handle and in other ways to score because like we said with Ali Abbas and going up against much tougher competition, you're not going to be scoring a thousand points of season. But Maddie has tools and all different types of shot creation that a lot of players don't come into the league with. And I think, you know, the stuff she's had to go through a Villanova of holding that production load is going to be great for her. And you get to play alongside one of the best shot creators in the league right now. So it could be fun. I mean, I want to stay optimistic with Dallas. That's what I want to do. Oh, I'm optimistic. There's a pattern with their graphics. Yeah. It's shooting, shooting was the pattern shooters shooters. No, but for Matty, yeah, the ceiling point is interesting because do you see here as an all star? Do you see her as a role player? You know, to me, I think her game and don't get me wrong, folks. Listen to all of us. It has the stylings of an Elena delle donne. And that's someone that she said, like I watched a lot of her to pick up some of her moves, some of her fadeaways kind of has this stylings of that. So how do you deploy that in a package that's smaller than I land all done, right? Is that a type of player can become an all star? Because I think we didn't say this for the first two picks, but I think allele Boston, we think her ceiling is probably defensive player of the year, somebody can get into the MVP conversation with development, Diane Miller, I think she's can be an all star ceiling. I think she's a starter most likely. And then when Maddie, it's kind of like, you know, more all over the place. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely a probably a lower floor than the other two. But I really like that Bella dot com. Just in a smaller package and anytime someone says, you can't help but smile and think about one of the greatest players I've ever seen. I mean, the same thing versatile score, like incredible footwork, incredible touch. That's it. Yeah. Maddie's Maddie probably has the best touch of anyone that's like, it's such a weird concept. Of just evaluating someone's touch with the ball, but she catches everything and she makes ridiculous shots. So, yeah. I like it. I like it too. I think it really fits in with their surrounding talent, so I like that move for Dallas. Let's get into the other move that perhaps. With the fourth overall pick, the Washington mystics, who again got this pick from the Atlanta dream last year for trading down from the number one overall selection. Which that pick they got from the LA sparks, the year before, so they've kind of rolled this pick over for a few years and gotten some great talent and some great value out of it. And this one is just an amazing move. In my opinion, from Mike Tebow, he continues to do this. He can't keep getting away with it. I don't know, but Mike and Eric Tebow pull off. He can't keep up. That's how I'm fine with it because I live in D.C. so this is great stuff for me. But so they draft Stephanie Suarez from Iowa state, a center who has a really high ceiling, amazing stuff that you can do, but you can be heard all year. So the mystics take her and then immediately move her to Dallas for a future first round pick in 2025 from Atlanta that the wings picked up this off season and the Alicia gray trade. And a 2024 second round pick both those picks, I think, could be really good players considering how deep the 2024 draft is looking. And then if some of those players do not come out, they were thinking about in 2024, some people such as Caitlin Clark, page backers, Haley van lith, a bunch of great college players. If those play don't angel Reese, those players don't come out in 2024. Guess what? They come out in 2025 and 2025. I'm pretty sure those players do not have a code here. So that's Olivia miles, Sonia citron, easy fun. AZ fudd, those players are coming out in 2025. So that 2025 draft could be unbelievable in the 2022 or four draft can be deep enough that that second round pick that the mystics get from wings, it also super valuable for a player that I can almost guarantee you Washington did not want. Unbelievable stuff for my Tebow. Yeah, and I mean, I know you have some insight into the mystics for an office and you were texting some people last night. And I want to I had no insight into that, would that happen? Well, yeah, no one said to it happening, but to kind of, I mean, your immediate look at me when it was announced just was.

"You have Ryan Howard, a superstar, and you have this contingency of vets. Like, how do those conversations go? 'cause it's not always the superstar who's the leader of the team, but how do you delegate roles like that? Yeah, Ryan's going to grow into that. She wasn't that for us last year, you know what I mean? That was not part of her role, her role was not to be a leader of the team. I think everybody has leadership qualities. And sometimes as leadership qualities are just leading yourself, making sure that you're doing what you have to do. You know what I mean? So that you're not letting others down. And she surely did that. If it ends with us about that. But for us, it's a really easy, simple process because it's not everybody can do the same thing. You don't want a team full of players that can do the same thing. Everybody has to be able to do something different so that everything jails in the right way. And fortunately for us, we just had different personalities that can do different things. So it was easy for us to delegate that. Nas is role in college was a score to basketball. But that wasn't her number one role for us. We didn't need nods to do that. You know what I mean? We need her to bring energy. We need to hurt a rim run. We needed a rebound. We need to defend. Scoring didn't even pop up into that. You know what I mean? And as she grows, right? That'll happen. Rose change as you grow. So for us, it was really easy. And I think we're going to adopt not a thing. I know we'll adopt the same approach this year just so it's a clear cut thing. I know for me as a player, I always was able to be successful when I knew exactly what you needed for me. I don't have to guess about it. I can just go about it and execute that to the best of my ability. So I try to be straightforward with all of our players with, hey, one, this is what we need from you as a team, and two, I'm trying to put you in the best position to be successful. I'm not giving you a role that does it suit your skill set or doesn't suit what you can bring to the table so that you also look good. While doing it. You know what I mean? Yeah, no, that's really cool. But let's talk about D rob, because we touched on it before. We talked about the vets. How do you see DRAM coming onto this team and impacting the game on the court X's and O's wise? Yeah. So, I mean, we were like top three and pay last year, right? And I don't even think that we were as good as we could have been. I thought that we could have been even better in our pace. We led the league early on for a large majority of that time, but then we had injuries and different things like that. So ICD rob as somebody first and foremost who can push the pace for us. Excuse me, decision making within transition, being able to find opportunities. For us to score earlier in our offense rather than having to go to half court. So I want to be able to do that. And I think D Rock definitely brings that. And then on the defensive end, I thank her ability to be able to pressure the ball. Just like Ari did for us last year. And will or two, Willard did a great job for us defensively last year, but I think D Rock takes it up just a little bit more of a notch and a versatility because we can play D rob on multiple people, not just point arts. Because she plays a little bit bigger than her size. And so ICD were up contributing and a special way. She's going to be a big piece to what we do this year. I want to get a little bit like X is an O's technical get into your actual whiteboard. Okay. Don't be afraid to kind of just go into your zone with it. But I want to talk about the dynamic of Alicia gray. Paired with Howard. How do you see that looking on both ends of the court? Yeah, well, defensively for sure, I think gray is going to have to be our best two way two way player, right? She's going to have to be somebody who can defend at a high level and then score at a high level. But in terms of the offensive end, I think having somebody like gray allows us to be a little to throw out decoys. You know what I mean? 'cause you never know who you can go to. So it gives us really a great second option to be able, well, not a second option because Cheyenne is also a second option for us. So in the first option, you know what I mean? So it really gives us three high level offensive players on our in our starting 5. I would say, because Aerie coming off the bench did a really good job for us last year in terms of scoring too. So I think using gray just obviously she can she's somebody who can score at all three levels, right? She can get to the rim. She has the mid range and she can catch and shoot the three. So being able to use her just in different ways, specifically more like a decoy, like people will always think that we're going to ride. Always, right? Because of her ability. But I think gray now adds as to that too. If we want to have the ball in the guards hand and get some looks like that. Well, it's just fascinating to me like this time of year, you've got to be watching so I would imagine, you know, you obviously have several months here at when the season's over and in this space where you're not just watching next level talent, but just trying to piece together your own team and some of these new players that you've added. The young talent that you have, the veteran, the veteran leaders that you brought in, how do you, how do you as a head coach, especially this time of year? Most effectively, orchestrate your offense. I know a lot of that, you only have a short amount of time in camp. So it's like clearly not a ton of it's happening there. So you have to be building that vision and what is this going to look like before? How do you orchestrate that offense and putting these players getting to them to their spots, getting them to the places where they can be most successful? How do you as a head coach go about doing that? Yeah, for us, it's a little bit different because of the style that we play. We play a lot of read and react. So it's not so much orchestrate and for my end. It's really like them getting together and playing and feeling each other and looking. But what we do as a coaching staff is try to add layers to what we already have. So for instance, we didn't do a lot of backdoor cut in last year because we just didn't have many rules in or different things like that. But that's a layer that will probably add in this year. You know what I mean? So opportunities for the girls to back cut on certain actions and different things like that because we run a lot of actions, not necessarily set plays or anything like that. So for us, it's about adding layers and figuring out which layers are going to fit the personnel that we have. You know what I mean? So we're looking at a lot of just different things that layers that we can that we can add to the system that we already have in place to see what sticks and what fits for us.

"Talk Atlanta dream on this episode. Coach, welcome back. A few things have changed since we last spoke. You now have a year under your belt in Atlanta. How are you feeling less than a week away from the WNBA draft? You know, I'm feeling good. But, you know, everything is coming pretty fast here. I think it always happens around this time of year. But I feel good about where we are. And the steps that we've made in this off season and where we're looking forward to. Feeling good, feeling good. Good. You should. Because there's a lot we could talk about a lot we could digest. I think at the general consensus is there's a lot of excitement. Atlanta is trending in such a good direction. And a lot of things we could pick apart with that, but obviously you're at the draft stage. Of the season, you know, headed into it. And primarily even headed into free agency. You know, what were some of the goals that you and Dan kind of had going into that? Of what you wanted to do with this roster and how you were going to take that next step. Yeah. We're still, you know what? That's a great question. And we're still in the building stage, right? Like last year it was great, no doubt about that. But we still have steps to make and sometimes those steps happen just incrementally, baby steps, right? So for us, coming into the off season, it really was about just getting better. It didn't matter. How we got better, but we wanted to make moves to get better. And I honestly think that we've done that. You know what I mean? Now, whether or not that jump is from a to Z or a to E, you know what I mean? It's a jump for us. And bring it in gray, obviously, was one. Going out and getting D Rock, another one. So all those things for us is just a small way to get better on the court. So, and at the same time, making sure that the right people for our work. Well, okay, we all do the fun free agency grades. Yeah. I'm gonna make you grade your guys own off season so far. Oh, we got an a hands down. Hands down, we got an 8. You know, if a pluses were like, I think thing thing, I would give us a plus, but we definitely got to actually think the majority of our grades a few of us, the people that we kind of do, I think ours are pretty right or right around that area. Yeah. No, listen, at the end of the day, we got better. I mean, adding Alicia gray was a huge piece for our future. Not just adding her, but also being able to extend her, right? And to pair her and to compliment her with somebody like Ryan, I think is a big, is a big step in the right direction for us. She's a great kid. First and foremost, she lives right down the street. From Atlanta. I mean, I think we probably got a bunch of season ticket holders the minute that the trade was executed, you know what I mean? So yeah, I definitely give us a like for sure. I like that. Okay, you bring up Howard. Yeah. I mean, goodness. She's at general generational talent potential, clearly, had a phenomenal rookie year. I mean, the hype and everything around her was very real, very valid. She's got a year under her belt now. After having such a great year, what's kind of that expectation for year two coming from you? To get better. Not to rest on those on last year and the success that she was able to Garner throughout the year because this league just gets tougher and tougher. You know what I mean? People know your name now. People know exactly who you are, what you want to do. And so the expectations for other teams are going to be tougher, not just on you, but on us. People aren't going to look at us as a little stepsister, right here, step sister anymore, right? Where they can just come in and get a dub. Like, no, so because of that, they know that you're going to be the head of that the head of that stake. So they're going to come after you. Different. And with the respect level that you've earned, but you got to get better. And she still has room to grow. I mean, Ryan had a great year, but she has opportunities to grow for sure. I mean, obviously, you drafted her where you drafted her clearly. But we all believe she could be great, but I don't know that everyone thought it would be that type of year. Did the year that she had in terms of just, I don't want to say breakout because that seems doesn't seem right, but did that change the trajectory of the dream? Oh, definitely. Oh, definitely. I mean, she was a rookie, right? You rookies coming in and but she was also the number one pick in the draft. So it's like when you look down the draft and you look at the generational players and in these drafts that have been number one, they've done the same type of stuff that she was able to do. Last year. You know what I mean? So it absolutely changes the trajectory of our franchise being able to add a player with that caliber. Now it's our job to continue to bring in pieces that complement that and that can help move the needle forward. You know, I was looking at this roster and it's pretty clear you got a nice contingency of vets and a nice contingency of young players, right? And I'm curious for you as a coach like, I know, unless you lived under a rock and you're not a WNBA fan, but everyone heard about the story of the dream last year kind of making roles printing it out, putting it on locker, several new kind of what their job was. And first of all, as someone I know, that was a thing that everybody knew, but okay. It got out because apparently, I mean, as someone who leads a team of the wind insider staff, I think it's an amazing idea. Maybe we have to steal that card. But I'm curious for you. You have Ryan Howard, a superstar, and you have this contingency of vets. Like, how do those conversations go? 'cause it's not always the superstar

"Show. I'm excited. Free agency is always heated debate time, a time where everyone gets to put on the GM hat and really step into the role as a keyboard GM as they say, we did our grades before. A few things have happened since then. So, just so everybody knows, we did our mid free agency grades on February 9th. Now, a lot has happened since February 9th, so it only be right. If we discuss some of the moves and not even necessarily discuss some of the moves, but more so, did any of the moves move the needle to make a team's grade any different. So obviously there was the diamond to shields trade. Trade. I'm Rita mabry trade. Multiple trades going about. And then there was also, let's see, what are some other Brie Jones finally signs? Where I Jefferson, Shay petty, hansu, PG sine, Bantam signed, and atrocity, who else, rashon gray. Alicia Clark extension we should Clark extension or Alicia gray extension. That's a great extension, yeah. Neck of Google K finally assigned Sinéad signed MacDonald, got the team option, trying to think if there's anything, yeah, I think that was pretty much the biggest, I guess, Johannes officially signing with New York was a big one and then Cheyenne Parker also getting a contract extension where some big ones. I mean, those were kind of the biggest news in news. The biggest headlines since our last podcast about free agency and I'm curious for you, you know, but we can go, is there a team that stands out that you want to talk on first or do you just want to go down the list and we'll talk about if anything shifted? You were a little bit removed from it. So I think my first reaction is let's just go down the list and talk about it one by one and kind of just dive into it that way. Yeah, Atlanta before we gave a B minus. And honestly, migrating was very much hanging on the idea that Alicia Greg, you don't make that trade to get Alicia gray and give up that much asset unless you know you're getting a contract extension. I know there is reports going back and forth. It's officially official that she did extend. So for me, it just solidifies the B minus or the B that I already gave them. Anything changed for you? No, I mean, I had to be from the beginning. I definitely felt like that extension was going to happen. I don't feel like that trade would have happened if that wasn't the case. You know, had some solid pieces that were added, but nothing really that moves the needle too crazy. I personally am a fan of the D rob trade. Because of what it means just for the short term and from a veteran presence. So and again, we're talking about everything from right before free agency trade wise to up until this point. So I mean, it was a solid free agency. They made the solid steps, but obviously nothing groundbreaking. Yeah, took a couple steps, but nothing, you know, have skipped a jump. D.C., I gave a B minus and honestly, like I was very torn on that where to grade them in my mind. Just to be blunt, the only real signing that impacts their grade is Britney Sykes. There wasn't really much else that they did. And I'll say the same thing I said last time. They made their team that they made up for any losses they were going to get by losing Alicia Clark on defense. They did not solve any of the offensive issues. It's a B minus for me and I could have honestly gone with the seat. I feel like I just give bees out when I'm just kind of like meh. You know, like, I don't hate it, but I'm not excited. It's just kind of like meh. We've said this, it feels like for 5 years now. Literally nonstop. It really comes down to health. I personally was surprised that there wasn't more of a concerted effort to try and retain Alicia Clark. I don't feel like she ever really found her footing there because of the injury and so it may be maybe there's an effort just to try and get a little more youthful. But I don't know, you know? I can't hate on it too much, but I also can't love it. Exactly. Chicago, I know I gave them like a C plus because I viewed it as the world is falling around them and they were able to kind of create some sort of shelter so they weren't hit by debris. Marina, does that change it for me? Not a whole lot, honestly, because I think it's a good move. I know some people are saying they got fleeced for the amount of draft picks they gave up on that. But I look at it and I look at it from a very specifically this year. Did the team get that much better? I mean, yeah, but no, if that makes sense. So I guess I'm sticking with my C plus. I don't think it bumps it up. If anything, the loss of draft picks might drop it down to just a plain old C it's interesting to see the way people view this Chicago skies for agency, like the metric which they weigh it from. Is it from a coach's perspective? Is it from a GM perspective? I think therein lies the issue is you've got one man wearing both hats, who's probably in an internal battle with himself to begin with.

"To me, it just doesn't, it doesn't make as much as that. I think to flip it back to Dallas. What they're doing is they've created a team that they really like, I think. They brought in Natasha Howard this year, resigns here, Macau and, you know, they have Veronica Burton who had a nice rookie season and is going to be even better. And then they have satsu sabi and dime the shields. The dynamic between Enrique and diamond is going to be a little weird. I think diamond will shoot better from three, but that's not the fit, but it's not going to be how mabry and rique were. It's going to have to be a little different. Right. So that's going to take some time like you said at the beginning of talking all this. That's going to take a lot of adjustment. But then they have another three first round picks. This season, they have the picks coming up in the future. This franchise is set up to continue growing. And I always see people asking, what's the plan in Dallas? I think it's a fair question. And I wrote in my newsletter ball and ordered that subsector account. I wrote about I wrote about how it's kind of like, you know, I don't know, I don't know if you ever play two K but in two K, you know, when I get a new franchise, when I get a new franchise, I like immediately trade everyone. You know, I trade all my trade all the players for draft picks. I kept bringing guys that I want. I change up everything. And I want to have to do something in the video game. So I want to do another. Yeah, we learned deal. I think Greg bibb has kind of like had that mentality. It's like, hey, this move is good. I'm going to do it. And that's great for roster building. But at some point, they need to turn the corner into team building. And I think this has to be the year for them with you should travel as the head coach has to be the year for them with a recast or leader, it has to be the year that they start going from this, hey, they have a lot of talent to, okay, this team is ready to compete and win. I think this year they have enough talent to do so. So I like what Dallas is building personally. No, I like it. Again, you know, just to have the pieces to be able to build to continually build and add to, you know, who's around Enrique goomba Walla. I mean, it's her squad right now. And no shade to anybody else. But we all clutch performer on that team. And she wants those moments. So I love that for her too. To be able to own that role and to have that trust from Greg bibb and the coaching staff as well. Just to know that we're working to get pieces around you. I mean, if I'm a rique, I'm like, let's go, you know? Let's bring them because you know how she's built, right? She wants to win. So just to have that trust from everyone in the organization, I think, is a plus for her too. It's her team. That's her team. And they did lose Alicia gray. And to a certain extent, that wasn't their choice. I think Alicia, honestly, I don't know if her problem was with the franchise or the role. I think almost what the role because she's saying, I'm a better player than the touches you're giving me. Right. I don't disagree with her. So, and so losing Alicia is a big deal and I'm not trying to. Downplay that at all. She's a big deal. Losing Marina is a huge deal. Yeah. But I just think they're kind of built, they're built well now, and they have playoff experience. They have players that they can rely on, and they have a good base for playing good defense. And that's been a problem in Dallas, you know, they got their stuff together at the end of the last year, but they're going to have to really lock in on that end of the court this year. And I think they can. So shouts Dallas, I think it's a good move. There's a New York and Phoenix element to this. I don't feel like getting into the minutiae of it. There's a lot of stuff going on. It's more minor moves, more minor moves. I do want to talk about one more major move, even though we're going along. Yeah. Tiffany Hayes. To Connecticut. For the number 6 pick from Atlanta. I love that. I love that. I love that move. Yeah. I love that. I mean, Tiffany Hayes, I mean, you know, she had some injury issues. But I mean, her presence, we were talking about leadership too. Her presence as a leader is, I mean, that's what Connecticut needs right now, right? They've lost some pieces. Obviously, John called Jones and others, but I just think that that's a perfect fit for her. And Connecticut with Stephanie white being the head coach there in her first year with the sun. I just think that's going to be a great combo with having her there. And Brie Jones resigns. Actually for a little bit less than the max, which is interesting. But you look at this team. We're talking about we're talking about Chicago. This team is full of dogs. Thai Harris tip Hayes, the wanna bonner, Alyssa Thomas, Brianna Jones, that's what you're starting 5, you gotta teach a heideman come off the bench in the cloud and our girl coming off the bench. I think they're a little thin, but I'm looking at it and I wanted to do power rank is on this episode. We're not gonna have we're not gonna have a chance to do it. But I'm like, they're right in there. You know, I'd say that with them and them in Washington are really close to each other in terms of competing with those top two teams in New York and Las Vegas. Yeah, I think tip, I mean, it's really hard to lose someone like John Cole Jones and still stay good. Yeah. You know, you look at teams that lose superstars. They don't tend to stay in contention. Right. This team did that with this move. And I think they should be really, really excited for what tip brings to kinetic and she's honestly something they need. That outside in sort of player who can spot up a little bit, that's exactly what they need. I think it's going to be really good for them. Obviously they take a step back though. I'm not trying to say they tip haze and John Paul Jones the same thing. They stay pretty close to where they were. Absolutely. And they get, you know, Atlanta gets a number 6 pick out of that. And I think that's good for Atlanta. I'm super young team that's continuing to grow and get better. I thought they had a phenomenal season last year for the youth that they had on the floor most of the time. So I think at number 6 pick in exchange for Hayes is a good move for them on the other side too. Oh yeah. Oh yeah, for sure. I like it. I like that move actually. So that's a win win. That's a win win. We'll say it. It's a win win. And it's great for Tiffany Hayes. She had when she was 12 years at 2018. 2018, they make the semifinals. Yeah. She was incredible.

"Hey, folks, I'm Kevin Correa, and this is your E sports minute. The annual end of year all star event for League of Legends has officially been canceled as was announced by Riot Games as global eSports division. The main reasoning behind that cancellation is thanks to the increasing COVID-19 travel restrictions, surrounding the latest variants that we are still facing around the world. With 2020 seeing the all star event be a remote event. Riots shifted gears this year, saying they feel remote play fails to properly capture the spirit of the event, which they see as a global celebration of the game that brings together not just pro players, but influencers and fans as well. While fans have every right to be disappointed, but on the bright side, the 2022 campaign of pro League of Legends is about to kick up by mid January. A little over a month and a half away. Game square is already starting to make big waves with complexity gaming following their acquisition of the eSports organization earlier this year. The two entities announced today a brand new division titled complexity stars, which will feature many pro athletes who are attempting to forge a more personal brand through gaming. Complexity touts it as the nexus between sports entertainment and gaming that'll give everyone more opportunities for collaboration with brands. The initial founding roster of stars features players like two time NBA champion JR Smith, LA Dodger Edwin Rios and former WNBA rookie of the year, Alicia gray, as well as including various NFL and UFC athletes. The announcement adds even more overlap within the entertainment spaces between sports and gaming with fans winning out either way. Lastly, with halo E sports on the rise still, their first major is a little over two weeks away and another major eSports organization has joined in the scene. X set becomes the latest orc to hop on the halo train as they signed the roster formerly known as crowd pleasers who featured a four man squad of Kratos filthy G, suspect and porky J with the start of halo's competitive scene through the HCS qualifiers, the Raleigh kick-off major seems poised to be a landmark event for halo eSports to come. I'm Kevin Correa that's my time and that has been your eSports minute..

"Okay russia we have reached the favorite part of podcast. The last two playoff spots in the w we have to her teams dallas and new york where they could grab it or washington could or me. La if one of either dallas or bjork just completely falls off which my money's kind of on new york right now because of the way that they're playing but let's talk about dallas. i all. we're talking about dallas i. We'll talk about dallas berries because they sit in seventh right now they did lose to atlanta. Yesterday would assured quite interesting. They've got a tough schedule to close it out and plus the important decided against new york that we're gonna talk about. Do you think they will make it. I mean i think will kind of fall ass backwards into the playoffs. Like i don't think i'm not caught at it in how they'll look in the playoffs. By any means i mean there's so inconsistent like sometimes they look like they could beat eddie team at any point they are we a we. We show up. We're hitting all their shots. Arik as getting downhill marina. Shooting the lights out other nights they can't grab a single rebound every big rosser terrible meritas shooting at all. A rica is also dot shooting at all and alicia. Gray is out there. Just chuck it up shots and trying her best on being the best defensive player on the team and she's great. The whole team is full of links. Really rock solid players. but they're all super inconsistent like there isn't a player on that team rumbling. This person every night except for rica giving me a double digit points. She might not be the most efficient double digit point total button. She'll get there but other nights. It's just. I really want like they're young. And i get it but i'm just saying you don't need to make the playoffs but i think just by by sheer force of will at every other team in the league being will every other team below them being bad They're going to get there just because no other team can put a few wins together to knock them out of the seven seat and knock them out of the playoffs. So i think they're not a lock for the seventh seed but they're essentially locked to make the playoffs at least yeah and What are your goals for them right now. Just don't look bad in the first round and just try to look competitive with whoever you play against you. I think you'll probably the as of right. Now you get the storm in the first round could be links So if it's the link don't get embarrassed by sylvia fowles like just maybe. Hi charlie collier on the bench. So she doesn't have like get a just have her rookie. Confidence like falter But yeah just please. Don't look bad in the first round. I mean if you if you make the playoffs. I mean if ideally they just like get into the lottery and get another high pick because of course But yeah just don't look back in the first round if you make it. Solid solid solid goal achievable goal. Hopefully okay my turn new york bearing age right. Now they're going through a tough. Stretch rag funnel podcasts. What's not fun is a six game losing streak up there on They're going to have to win. What if not all of their last several games especially the one against dallas if they are gunning for that final playoff spot for me. I think i've reached the point where i'm not entirely sure that missing the playoffs as the end of the world. I think that the season has been a good learning experience for them. It's most definitely an improvement from last year. Which i'll never stop talking about. Because i got that going for me. But if they make some good moves in the offseason like at this point if they make the playoffs..

"It's just they have so many guards who should be primary or backup point. Guards or ball handlers. But more often than not the ball ends up in the hands of marina. Mary and irrigation away right so like it's great to have the ball in their hands in really is and they should have the ball. But don't build out your lineups and furthermore like your roster with guards who can't bring as much for civility offensively even if you're going to put the ball in their hands and then you know to bring. I've talked about this. A whole lot is like the big situation is it's complicated. it's complicated but And i'm bringing the perspective of like having just watched a wings game where they had neither alicia gray gold medals or sought to and those are there to like those third their second and third best players. I would say yes but like they. They just bring everything together. In that way too. I think her development as a playmaker as like blown me away in like i did not expect to to develop this to at big show this level of passing shops. Yes so it's just like it's so confusing it's so muddled the decision making is and like if you wanna know what their offense is gonna look at any given time like throw throw up the horns. Because that's that's their base off it's It's their base alignment anyway not their base office and they just. There's just so much there and like again. This is one of those situations where it's like. They're they're very young team. They're still figuring stuff out. Blake if you're going to try and play every player a that's that's just not a functional way to develop any of them right. Don't if you if you try to do everything you're not gonna end up with very much of anything like that's just how it works. A lot of the right and they should be a year. Head of new york is because these team basically all play together in bubble last year like a reggae marina is bill harrison jefferson on. We should grace like they were all on the team last year so it shouldn't have the feeling of like an entirely new team. The way that the liberty do they they should be further along. And i understand that. It's a new head coach but like i'm just not willing to give them many passes but the thing is like even with all the the silly stuff do. There's so much talent on this team. They just figure things out like you just put them on rica's hands and just like clear out the middle of the four letter work and more often than not that a week two good things because she is that talented got her first step is just. It's stupid like i mean. I like watching this. The mystics. the tasha cloud. Ace pervert vendor is just hopeless trying to stop her from getting past her which is idea like what we're working with with Bi they frustrating. I think more than any other team in the league because of all they're capable of.

"Years now and with the NFL draft, being here this week, has a pretty cool project for current and former players themselves called the Gridiron Gaming Group. Joining us this morning on the show from the Chargers is Austin Heckler Running back Austin. Good morning. How you doing? I'm doing Well, They grabbed me on my pleasure. Really cool to have you here on the show and Stories an amazing one as I mentioned because every step of the way you have had to prove yourself nothing given to you lightly, lightly recruited, recruited coming out of high school, despite all types of tremendous records that you said junior and senior year in high school. Then ended up out of college being undrafted getting to the Chargers and then eventually really finding a place and a roll in the NFL. Some people say, Well, the Doubters that motivated me. Was that a motivation for you, or was it something else that has driven you to these great successes? I like to. I like to look at a little differently. Like I can't spend time on the daughter that too many supporters in the data is don't deserve my time. If I people supported me s O. It's been It's been different for me right For me. It's always been, how can take advantage of the opportunity that's in front of me? And if I do that it'll lead to other opportunities. And so that's kind of what I've done. That's what I'm focused on. To put my energy into is just focus on the moment Focus on the now and then it'll lead to you know the next step down the road, whether it's continued football or something else in life. Some people would say, Well, you're not tall enough to play in Division one Power five conference or not. Strong it off for fast enough to play in the NFL. And you've never used the negative as a motivator. Did you ever when you were starting out as an athlete used the negativism motivator that just was never kind of Part of the skill set that she needed. No. So I mean, I had a pretty just Dedicated mindset to my craft. And so if anyone was ever had any, like toxicity or doubts around me, you were immediately just eliminated from my circle. But I didn't associate myself around. You didn't talk to you didn't hang out with you. And so I kept a pretty tight knit, too. Just a really good support group that we're all trying to be successful in what we're doing together. And so we don't have any time for down in anything like that was like, Hey, let me focus on myself. And trying to get the rest of people in my group that are also trying to work on themselves better. It's really cool. I read a quote from your mom. And she said, I was never sad at Austin's graduation or senior days, Whatever. Because I always knew this wasn't gonna be the end of him Playing after high school, you went on. Western Colorado after western Colorado and undrafted but then picked up by the Chargers. Is that kind of the way that you also approached it? No matter what the end quote unquote was, you always knew there was something else left for you to do. Well, I mean, that's the journey, right? I mean, we always hopefully, people just always had something. You know that's coming. Whether it's you know, expected or unexpected. Hopefully it's something and I think the most important part is just making sure you are in the I know that things to be learned and pick up the skills from our journey that we can transfer to other things in our life. So if it does go to plan, that's great, But if it doesn't, then we can still use the skills that we learned. Belong. The hardship in the work on apply those other parts of our life to be successful in something else, Because I know NFL and football is not gonna last forever. I can't do this forever. My body will break down. And so I'm gonna use the skills, though, however, that I've been learning and the connections that have learned from the platform and made from the platform and apply those and other parts of my lifetime to be involved in Charges. Running back Austin Heckler is our guest this morning here on the D, a show on CBS Sports radio. So I know that your mom has made quite a bit to you. She was a single mom raising two Children. And you've always said how inspired you were by her And what a great mom she was. You got Mother's day coming up here a couple of weeks, So I Wondering just how you feel about your relationship with your mom these days, and what she meant on your journey to get where you are. Yeah. You know what You show me. You know how to be just an independent, strong person. Like you said she was single. She went through some pretty pretty tough relationship. Um, And so we've become really close because it's basically my mom. My little brother and I are a little family, so we're pretty close to each other. His family has been to the day of in my opinion is really you know what you have in life. And so, yeah, you know, we take care of each other and make sure she gets too many games. She can, you know, support her as she supported me when I was growing up. So with the gridiron gaming group, something you just said, kind of piqued my interest when you said, you know, I can't be doing this forever. So this is kind of a moment in time. The Gridiron gaming group getting ready for the draft is you got 10 athletes from across the sports landscape getting involved. That's football players. That's IndyCar drivers. That's a lot of different. There's a major league baseball pitcher Tommy can lead that's going to be involved as well from the Dodgers, also a Dallas Wings guard Alicia Gray, So when you get all these different athletes all together and you're trying to put together a project with them. Is it with that in mind, as you said, a post playing career or expanding what you do as you're in the middle of your NFL career beyond just the football field. Yeah, absolutely. Um, you know, I think a major part of Being an athlete is being a part of the platform. And, you know I'm in the streaming world with my twitch stream, right, dude, live streamed face like a live podcast. Um, we're doing a bigger event and so like one of my goals is to is to help. Um people in the athlete world of people with platforms connect the community directly kind of bypass. Going through media. And so that's what exactly we're gonna be doing with the you know the NFL draft and then coming up on Thursday, coming up quick, and so we're gonna have. It's not just our 10 athletes from greater and gaming group. We're gonna have an athlete from every single team. Representing the team during the draft during that time, but their teams picking they'll be able to come in. They'll be able to plug in their you know their foundations what they have going on the off season. You know whatever they want to plug in. And, uh, basically created all media and so it'll be a big platform. It's gonna be a really fun event. Really social, that a lot of giveaways, a lot of interaction from people that are watching and so looking forward to it. You got an opportunity with the Chargers in 2019 to play quite a bit because Melvin Gordon was in the middle of a contract dispute. Melvin's gonna be part of this project, so some might think. Well, maybe there might be bad blood because eventually the charges kind of chose you over him. He moved on. I guess everything is cool between you and him, huh? We have been in the city chews him me over him that I just got a deal done and hey, can get a deal done from what he wanted, right? It wasn't like a we want Austin like they were trying to get a deal done with Melvin. They just couldn't but we got one done with me. That's how I ended up working out. You know what it's like The business side from outside. Looks like it really shows off nose like that work. But, hey, we want him. But if we can't get the business side, you know, figured out, then we have to move on from each other. And based like individual individual decision with everyone, not necessarily the comparison. And, Yeah, I know Melvin basically showed me the ropes when I came in, you know, he was because that lead dog in a room for for three years. Um Then I'm not fourth year ended up going to plan for the Broncos and, yeah, I'm glad to have him on here. I know he got some stories You want to tell..

So I'm wondering just how you feel about your relationship with your mom these days, and what she meant on your journey to get where you are. Yeah. You know what You show me. You know how to be just an independent, strong person. Like you said she was single. She went through some pretty pretty tough relationships on. So we've become really close because it's basically my mom. My little brother and I are a little family, so we're pretty close to each other. His family at the end of the day, and my opinion is really you know what you have in life. And so, yeah, you know, we take care of each other and make sure she gets too many games that she can, you know, support her as she supported me when I was growing up. It's a lot of different. There's a major league baseball pitcher Tommy Can Lee. That's going to be involved as well from the Dodgers, also a Dallas Wings guard Alicia Gray, So when you get all these different athletes all together and you're trying to put together a project with them. Is it with that in mind, as you said, a post playing career or expanding what you do as you're in the middle of your NFL career beyond just the football field. Yeah, absolutely. Um, you know, I think a major part of, um being an athlete is being a part of the platform. And, you know, I'm in the streaming world with my twitch stream, Right, dude, live streamed face like a live podcast. Um and we're doing a bigger event and so like one of my goals is to is to help. Um people in the athlete world that people with platforms connect the community directly kind of bypass. Going through media. And so that's what exactly we're gonna be doing with the You know the NFL draft event coming up on Thursday coming up quick, and so we're gonna have. It's not just our 10 athletes from greater and gaming group. We're gonna have an athlete from every single team representing the team during the draft during that time. 13 picking, they'll be able to come in. They'll be able to plug in their you know their foundations what they have going on the off season. You know, whatever they want to plug in and basically created all media and so it'll be a big platform. Going to be a really fun event. Really social..
