"And how'd you read how it's gonna play out. Well i think ana just substantive platform. That's politics aside. That has been so long in coming and we are so deeply desperate. I think as a nation to be fighting fewer wars. I went to college in the backdrop of nine eleven. And i can't believe we've been ghanistan ever since i mean something like five times. The amount of time that american troops were involved in the second world war. You know that was four years and this is been twenty. I mean it is an extraordinary thing. You know. And i think my guess is. There's no way really for republicans to criticize him. Because it's something that trump wanted to do himself so there's not really any i'm guessing they won't be much political. Push bank to this. I doubt it. And i think we would all like to spend our money on something else. Alexis grenell thank you so much for joining us on the podcast. This has been a fascinating conversation. Thank you thank you so much for having me and that is all for this week. Now at the end of last week's podcast. I asked you to send it suggestions. "Welcome to politics weekly extra. I'm jonathan frightened and executive politician from new york holed up in his office threatened with impeachment mired in scandal when not talking about donald trump earlier this year but rather andrew cuomo governor of new york and mired by double scandal on the one hand accused of sexual harassment by senior and junior colleagues alike claims. He has mainly denied and also involved in a scandal that goes to what many people have thought had been his finest hour as governor handling the coronavirus pandemic with the accusation that he and his administration covered up deaths and the number of deaths in nursing home so he is in a kind of pinson movement of scandal and many people thinking. His job is hanging by a thread. That is a fascinating political story if it were to happen in emmy of america's fifty states but happening in new york gives it a whole other level of drama partly because new york is just so powerful the kind of financial some would say cultural engine of the united states of america but also because new york politics is just so different from the rest of the country. It has its own political culture. Hardball bareknuckle style of politics. Streetfighting politics going back decades but also because of this curious clash of cultures between the city which is always super liberal and on the other hand state level politics the governor's mentioned sitting there upstate in albany and parts of new york state which are pretty traditional conservative. Even trump country new politics is completely fascinating. Which is why. I wanted to talk to a real specialist in that field and she is alexis grenell. She writes a political column for the nation magazine. She's covering your politics for a long time. She worked in it for awhile. Word very briefly Long ago for andrew cuomo. She's also the founder of a public affairs consultancy advising campaigns even occasionally political candidates and they are called pithy eh public so i began my conversation with alexis grenell by ascii. What was the meaning of that name. Fear public well the pithy eh. the high priestesses of the oracle of delphi and they were required to be fifty years of age or older and they could only be women. And so i actually cannot get credit for that incredibly feminist concept which my wonderful partner came up with. That is the greek origins of the pithier. So that is a public affairs firm. You advise people also right and comment on your politics for the nation magazine. Tell tell us just a little bit about your background where you come at this from and how steeped you are in the politics of of of this city and state certainly. So i've been working in new york politics since two thousand and six and writing about it for nearly a decade and since new york is such a heavily macho place honestly it has been so much of my work to focus the connection between policy outcomes and frankly pissing matches which is frankly a terrible way to have a public civic life but in fact define so much of our experience here and the dynamic between new york city new york state the governance structure of the state means that the city is really a creature of the state which has ultimate authority over. So many what would seem like local issues. So it's very strange. Governance structure that renders the city to be secondary in a way even though the city is both the political power base and financial power base of the state so the bizarre relationship. I mean when. I lived in united states from would say about that. It's not america. It's not like the rest of the country. In terms of culture demographics habits desired it different from the rest of the country. But you don't hear that from people in politics they would actually if the new york primary was coming up suddenly all the kind of pundits and experts in a presidential election. You'd have to have a different cast of characters because politics he's just so idiosyncratically different in new york. And you've i think given us two point is i want to drill into both. You mentioned this really interesting difference between the liberal mainly stay city of new york and then the state which can often very different politics but use word match the kismayo and sort of harpool nature of new york politics. A lot of people think american politics in general is like that. So what's new york politics apart on that particular measure. So i completely agree with you. That politics is deeply into your socratic. Also deeply local having run a presidential campaign does not qualify you particularly to understand local politics in new york which is such a rat's nest of patriarchy at times to be quite honest. That goes exactly to next question about matches. Boats so new york city has never had a female mayor or a woman as governor in fact in twenty eighteen. We elected a woman to be attorney. General's new york's new attorney. General has big plans. That was a really unique moment. Yes we've had women as lieutenant governors. Who are sort of secondary to the governor but to have a woman in a solo executive capacity in statewide office. was historic and that's embarrassing. But what's interesting to see. Is that locally. There's been this incredible election of young primarily female lawmakers and met as well but the common theme here's that their unabashedly unapologetically feminist and that's deeply tipping the scales of power in new york in part. Because we have now a majority of democrats in the senate a massive majority of the assembly and the governor has significantly less power to an extent he still has tremendous power in the budget making process. And that's a constitutional problem but there are more primarily young women in the legislature willing to speak up and slap him back people. Imagine new york in a way as being the leading edge city in the world. I mean the most progressive place they would imagine. How is new york. Got these really quite retrograde attitudes to these kinds of of basic social question there. Well i think it's interesting. We've seen an incredible number of republican women across the country elected to executive office. And there's a lot of thinking about why that might be the case compare to democratic women yes new york. Is this sort of shining city on a hill in many ways and of course department the city not the state but we're also the financial capital. This is where wall street is and wall. Street makes up the bulk of our budget. So there's definitely a driving interest from the financial services sector when it comes to power and that is heavily skewed male and. I don't think it's an accident that we see that perspective reflected in our leadership right. So there's a kind of ingrained baked in mail bias there in some of the engines of american politics. Let's get to the person who is at the center of neuropolitics in his own way. The prompt for our conversation today. And that is the governor of the state. Andrew cuomo three-term term governor. Now in in real deep political. Trouble are keen to talk about him. many listeners. to this the association they will have with name. Cuomo will be with his father. And it's amazing that you mentioned earlier the shining city on the hill. That's a phrase that mario cuomo made enormously famous and we're going to hear a little bit of the speech that in some way sealed his reputation back in nineteen eighty-four. This is the voice of mario cuomo father of the current.

"And let us do our thing. You know, if you can do your thing. That's that's great. But this is meritocracy it's not a gender accuracy. It's not a race accuracy. It's the presidency of the United States. This isn't a slot at your college that you got into because of your gender and your race. This is this is the real world. I don't really want it to be the real world, but she was on CNN and Brooke Baldwin at CNN is tweeting out links therapies, and Brooke Baldwin is praising her for. Yeah. White men have to get out. You have to get out 'cause we can't win. If white men are in there. We can't beat burn. Any sanders? Look at him. He's a dynamo. He's a powerhouse. How can anybody compete with the likes of Bernie Sanders? He's got food stored between his teeth. So he can campaign for longer than other people. He's stored and then he can suck snacks out every now and then and have a little snack while he's talking in the middle of the speech. And that's why it keeps the food there. It's planning. He's like a chipmunk or a squirrel, squirrel, squirrel stuff away. So here's this this woman Alexis Grenell. I went to her. She's got a Twitter and everything and she thinks she's she thinks she's fancy she writes for the New York Times opinion, and for Washington Post, and and all the usual suspects there. And she CNN saw the story where she's telling white men to get out of the race. So someone else can win because they couldn't possibly compete. If white men are in the race and CNN is like, yeah. Girl power. It's the opposite of girl power. It's really it's the opposite of feminism. It's it's it's sad. It's tragic honestly, so Brooke Baldwin and Alexis Grenell. Typist of this lunatic piece, literally we have this woman who is a mother of two releasing the most expansive list. Childcare and MAC with some experience to inform it and the same day. This guy does a cannonball into the news cycle and everybody else wet, and that's all we can think about when there's actually something substantive. That's meaningful and important to pay attention to and that's a bigger problem with all these guys all these guys. There's. Know, I think really you're in charge of what's meaningful in America in your own little mind. I think that you probably are. But, but this is really a remarkable thing. Also, she says in her typed up peace here. She says there are four highly qualified women running in the democratic primary. I don't know who she is leaving out in her in her little nine. But last time I looked I think Kirsten gillibrand is officially in Elizabeth Warren who she obviously loves more than as healthy for a person out there in the public. And then there's a Camelot Kamala Harris the halls have come along. And then there is of course, Minnesota club Machar, and that's four right there. But Tulsi Gabbard is already. I know see the left they've they airbrush her out like Trotsky because they hate her because she's pretty and articulate, and but she doesn't towed the left-wing line on absolutely everything. So. So they've written her out of the script. And then of course, there is Marianne Williamson who is a little bit of a fringe candidate. But she's in the race. So here it is miss pseudo feminist, Alexis Grenell leaves out two of the six women that have declared that they're running for the democratic nomination for the presidency. That's rather sexist. I think little selective, isn't it? It's not sexist. What it is is political. It's her politics where she just in her little story. Well, I'm just gonna leave them out. Well, how imperious of you? Let those other two women eat cake. Alexis grenell. I think the point is we actually have four four. The big John. So it's really it'd be offered positions in an administration as vice president. When in fact, they have tongue like really the most qualified field of candidates who happen to be women Hispanic variety. If they only happened to be then what's the difference? You're saying you don't want to vote for man because the man is a man. That's what you're saying. Okay. Let's start with that. And and because they're white and last time I looked that's the textbook definition of a racist. Kitten. Can I call you kitten in this context, I think it would be entirely appropriate. Actually, now, let me let me just pause on this insanity for a moment here because I was looking at this yesterday, and I and Victoria, Michael, and I were texting back and forth on the subject. And and I just I I started thinking to myself, you know, great feminists. This is really a great feminist that she's declaring that women can't compete with white men. But she's apparently sang she can compete with with black men or with Hispanic men. What does that say about her view of everything and everyone she is sort of a typical run of the mill racist? I guess certainly the definition that I was raised with you hold everybody who different standards based on their race higher standards, lower standards, different standards that makes you a racist. That's the very definition, and you can't have men in there because of gender that's missing jewelry and underutilized word these days. Great feminists. Call on all white men to drop out of the democratic race for president because with white men in there. It's too hard for them. And they can't win k that is utterly anti-feminist textbook. Anti-feminism unfamiliar. It is weakness it it speaks to a sad whining curled up on the floor and the fecal position. I know it's the fetal position whining. I can't compete against men. Not white men. And I'm looking at this thing you can't win a race. I mean, honestly, it's not a tune-up con competition. It's not a track. Meet we're not doing pushups here. It's the presidency of the United States. It's about speaking and expressing ideas. It's about leading. It's about convincing a great nation that you're the person that we need to lead in this desperate time. Every time from this point on. I think is a desperate time. It's honestly, it's like what is she saying that there's like white male supremacy, and you have to move the white males out of the way because their superior and you couldn't possibly compete against them. Because that's the way that it sounds. You've got the an irrational fear, or maybe you think it's a rational fear. She she has. Cauca mail, a phobia, I think that's a fear of the white male. They caucus annoyed mail. She's got fear of the white male. She has white male, a phobia, whatever that is you. They loved accuse everybody of homophobia. And and Islam a phobia yet, we don't say, well, gosh, we can't have Muslims running because and we can't have gay men running because we have a phobia of them. Apparently, she actually has a phobia of white men. It's an irrational fear of white men. But this is affirmative action for the presidency. And this is this woman who is says she's in her thirties, I guess a title nine baby. Where no this is just for women. This one's just for when we have to have equal funding just for women. And now she's all grown up, but not relations been infanta licensed by the left, and by academia, and the news media, and these all meld together an event diagram where? She resides. But this is this is the ultimate manifestation of title nine that she thinks when it's time to run for the presidency. If a woman is in the race that all white men should exit exit stage left looney left because title nine taught her that she doesn't have to compete against men. Not white men. See she she has to say white men because she knows that they've got this. You know, what's his name Castro Houlihan Castro running for the presidency? He's apparently Hispanic and she can't say he's got to drop out because that would be racist according to her own code, but telling white men to drop out is not racist. According to the same code, which is of course, a racist code by definition. And then there's Pete Budi gig. Pete Budi gig is a white man. He's gay does. She that's really he's the mayor of south bend, Indiana. And if he was straight white male. In south bend, Indiana. He wouldn't be running. But he is gay therefore he's on CNN and he's at town halls and they invite him to south by south west. And he's a featured guest, and he's got his he'd been on Kimmel yada. And Colbert because if he has knee will be soon, but Pete Budi gig is a democrat who's the mayor of south bend, Indiana and big city, a big metropolis, and he's running for the presidency because after all these already shown his leadership skills as mayor of south bend, Indiana and working with the city council and everything on potholes and stuff like that. So naturally next step is the presidency. But if she calling nobody will what's her name didn't ask her this, of course, on CNN because this this would be legitimate questions, and they don't ask legitimate questions. They just re tweet your article and say, yeah, I am woman. Hear me slink into a corner and hope white men don't compete against me because I couldn't possibly win. But Pete Budi gig is a white, man. But he's a gay white, man. Castro is Hispanic, man. But you know, he's straighten Hispanic has technically Caucasian. So that could be a problem does she want him to drop out or can he stay in because of his ethnicity? This is what the democrat party has done to the world. This is what the left has done to the world. And the democrat party is run by the left. So you got the white man over, but he's gay. I guess he can stay and you got the Hispanic guy. I guess he can stay and these are the same people, by the way that tell us that we have to celebrate not only it'd be okay with but have a party when transgender men compete in high school track meets against biological girls. And they mopped the floor with them and Democrats high five these men who look like they should be trying out for the NFL when they crossed the finish line. Like a lap ahead of the high school girls who were hoping to get into college on on scholarships for track. But now aren't going to get those scholarships because. Because men dressed as women who have male genitalia, and we're born male and are still biologically and physically are going to get the scholarships that are intended for women so much for title nine like, you're tripping over your title nine over here. Honestly, so trans men can compete in track against high school girls. And therefore that they had got men wrestling as women in what does that NCAA the wrestling? And the man beating the woman in the championship was celebrated by the left, and I know because the news media celebrated and this poor young woman who worked wrestling, the poor young women in the track meets, and they're being trounced by these men who are stronger and faster and taller and have more muscle mass and all of this because of biology just by the way, case anybody forgot about that the left is in favor of the male wrestler beating the girl in the wrestling. They're in favor of the male trek stars beating. The high school girls on the high school the state championships where the girls were hoping to show what they're made up. So they get scholarships. No such luck. So there are being denied their scholarships because of liberals, and because of identity politics, and and now she wants all the white men to drop out of the race because they're white men, and it is a declaration that the women like the here. Her war hear her roar? Elizabeth Warren couldn't possibly compete against the likes of Bernie Sanders because of his Muskie manliness because of is because.

"At long last there in charge of much of our government, and they can rot away at the institutions of America from the inside who needs a Senate who needs a supreme court with nine Justice. That's ridiculous. We're going to fill it with our own corrupt banana Republic, they should get people from like Ecuador to come and take the places on the on the supreme court. So they're like Stalin brought in Mongolia troops to kill the Germans at the end of the war. The Democrats should bring in Mongolia. Judges to take over the supreme court. They can just add them. I don't think there's anything in there about having to be US citizen to be on the supreme court. I'm not sure I'd have to look at it. But they should do that no electoral college. No senate. No, no supreme court as currently configured. We'd demolish that we had reduced the voting age to sixteen or maybe fourteen or twelve or whatever it is. They want to do whatever it is. They think they could win most handily with. Because they're just that corrupt. They are. They are really something. I have news from President Trump from Venezuela. There were raids in Venezuela. And the opposition leaders friends are being rounded up by the police, even as we speak the man who has been declared the legitimate leader of Venezuela by the United States and many other countries. Here's people one glide dope. Who is the good guy in the story? At least for now the chief of staff of Venezuela's, one Guido president of the national assembly has been detained in an overnight. Raid was at worse than manafort's house. Or who was it? Roger stone's by the nation's intelligence agency, really was John Brennan, the head of the intelligence agency, and we used to scoff at these third world countries, and we could laugh at these third world countries for the ridiculous things that were going on there. But now I look at what's going on in these second and now Venezuela's third world country because of their leadership. It was a perfectly solid second world slash first world country before Hugo Chavez, nNcholas Maduro took over. But but now I see this the chief of staff of Venezuela's one glide glider has been detained overnight by the nation's intelligence agency. Well, you know, we have pre dawn raids here in the United States of the political adversaries of the Democrats on tax issues, and he didn't declare who is it, Greg. Craig a another democrat bigwig Clinton administration official Obama lawyer, Greg Craig famous Washington figure turns out he was representing Ukraine, and he didn't declare himself as Representative of a foreign country either. But no, pre dawn raids on his house turns out Ponant, Tony Podesta, the brother of democrat, Obama chief of staff and so on John Podesta. He too was working as an unregistered foreign agent. No, no predawn raid. With battering Rams and rifles and helmets and stage. Three kevlar, none of that stuff going on with their. And that's what makes you a banana Republic. It's it's when and the left make no mistake there a banana Republic wherever they go. They travel around in a truck like a circus and wherever they go. They bring the third world with them. So now when I see that the descendant of the inheritor of Hugo Chavez, Nicolas Madura is having his so-called intelligence services rating, the chief of staff of his political adversary. I've got a shrug and say, well, we've got largely the same thing happening here in the United States now. And there isn't really a lot of daylight between what we're seeing there and what we're seeing here. The intelligence agency known as seven SAD IN planted weapons in the home of top. Guido aide who is name is Roberto Moreira, although he likes to pronounce that Roberto Marrero and kind of like Alexandria, Cossio Cortez. Brown says her name as grounds for an arrest. They said they brought weapons with them. And then dropped him in the house, and then they arrested them for having weapons during the raid. This is how the left operates the opposition spokesman Edward Rodriguez claim. The home of grotto's attorney Sergio Avar Gera was also rated overnight, but he was not taken into custody. According to the opposition video of Guerrero who Vergara rather who was also an opposition legislator described. How intelligence agents searched his home the footage was posted by opposition members on social media. So this is typical lefty stuff it's what they do. Tell you feel gulags tell you kill a hundred million people in one hundred years. And now is you know, we've got John Brennan and James Komi and the insurance policy and Peter stroke and Lisa page and Bruce sore and we've got three dawn raids and the party in power got a free pass. They all got immunity, and they destroyed evidence, and they had classified documents. And then they're pals didn't declare as foreign agents as representatives of foreign countries and no pre dawn raids. No arrests. I gotta tell ya James Comey and John Brennan and Loretta Lynch, and Barack Obama did a lot to fundamentally transform the country. They did move the needle closer to third world banana Republic Carmen Miranda hat wearing lunatic land, and they're still working on because under the green new deal. We won't have airplanes our cars and in ten years and nine and a half years now since they started talking about it. Crazy stuff. This is what we're dealing with an American freedom and liberty are never more than one generation away from extinction. A great leader. Once said now with a great deal to get to just from looney land in in the United States of America and the left. There is a woman who types up stories for the left. Her name is Alexis Grenell. She fancies herself some sort of a Greek goddess they she's just under the oracle of Delphi. As we call it here. Alexandria, Cossio Cortez would call it the the oracle of Delfi because that's what they call it in Greece Delfi, but but never mind all that Alexis Grenell types up. Thanks for the left. She writes for the Daily Beast and for other lefty, kind of outfits and Michael peercy pointed this out to me yesterday. And it is it is at first glance. I just sort of scoffed and then got on with my day and the more I thought about. The more. It got under my skin didn't get under my skin. But it did occurred to me how absurd the whole thing is how thoroughly and completely ridiculous. These people have made themselves Alexis Grenell typing on behalf of the insane racist sexist left in the pages of the Daily Beast. The headline is. To the white men running to be democratic presidential candidate colon. They love their Collins got Colin's all over the place here to the white men. And and the white men has capitalized the is not. Some things are capitalized summer to the white men running to be the democratic presidential candidate colon. Can you not can you not? This is a first of all nice writing what you nine. Secondly, the absurdity of this claim just you gotta let it at least I had to let it sit for minute on the table before. I started laughing out loud. But she continues in the sub-headline if you're a man talking about not me, but us it's time to stack step back, and let us do our thing. Us. You see is everybody except white men. Who gave you the all the things that Alexandria, Cossio Cortez wants to ban, like combustion engines in cars, and buses, and airplanes, and jet engines and fossil fuels and modern communications and electricity. Do you like electricity just say, thank you? And a couple of other little things that we've thrown in modern medicine and cures for cancer and HIV AIDS and a few things that I think we've contributed over the long haul and recently and also a leadership around the route. I know you're very angry about history and everything but to the white men running to be the democratic presidential candidate. Can you not if you're a man talking about not me, but us it's time to step back, and let us do our thing. Now, we have to step back. So you can do your thing. Because otherwise, you're too afraid or your quaking in fear like a delicate Lilly in the wind. You're you're so terrified of a world where white men exists that you can't compete or are you can only win if there. Are no white men in the race. I mean, what does this say contests? We doing push ups here. Are we running for president? It's based on ideas. It's based it's based on thoughts. It's based on leadership. It's it's it really it's based on charisma, and how many appearances here you're gonna make on coal baron, Jimmy Kimmel on Saturday Night Live more than more than anything. But but putting that aside Bernie Sanders announced his twenty twenty campaign for president the same day, Elizabeth Warren released her plan for subsidized childcare, and I nearly had an aneurysm. This is what she writes. You should have an aneurysm. You're you're you're mentally unbalanced you should seek professional help in this matter. Warren had already had a toddler when she entered law school before becoming pregnant with their second child. Oh, no God. What a what a woman hear her roar? She had two children and went to school. Wow. The feats. She has completed. My mother had six children, and they were all boys, and we might as well have been ISIS in rock. When we were growing up and she worked, and she went to college, and she got things done in her husband died when she was thirty two. She was left a widow with four boys, and we were a little terrorists really like Irish and Basque we were we were building bombs and looking for British people. And and and my mother didn't whine and complaints. Oh, listen to me, I can do this and that at the same time because she was a real woman. Unlike you whining pathetic, little wimps. Oh, she already and then she had a second child while I'm so impressed instead of talking about that astounding feat. She she had a child nuncios, and then she'd and then this astounding feat. This is an astounding feat. Today's people because there's such pathetic whiny little snowflakes, and instead of talking about that astounding feet, and how it inspired her policies Bernie hurled a bomb into the news cycle. And my eyeballs are still bleeding bitch a little bit dramatic. I think you should really look for suicide vests in this woman's closet. She's little unstable. But I completely lost it when beta aerobic launched a video in early launch a video about why he's also running for president featuring his smiling. Voiceless stepford esque, at least in that video wife, she's anti feminist. I really this is kind of six stuff the video didn't caption, Amy or. Rourke by name and Beethoven never even made reference to her. That's a lie. He definitely made reference. He he said, and he talked about her and she sat there and looked at him sort of moon. I'd because he's the hero of the skateboard universe. And everybody has to worship at the altar of beta because he's Super Beta Prostate. She literally said nothing while he blab down for three and a half minutes straight as only a man convinced of his own manifest destiny can manifest. This is really these people are just completely unhinged. And he did talk about his lovely wife. Amy, Amy, and I are happy to share with you serve you of the United States. She's a journalist and she allegedly watch the video, but she didn't notice that. And then she's. It was right in the right in the opening segment of the thing. And and she is looking a little step for why feel give her that. But I won't pull it back because I'm not timid little lily like this typist for the is here. So she's off on this screen, and she's completely beserk..

"Need. I have the ability. So I've stepped up Montana is a fairly red state, even though it has a democratic governor and a history of democratic senators. It went twenty points for Trump in two thousand sixteen gene forte. Williams opponent is a tech entrepreneur, a millionaire one of the wealthiest members of congress, and he has a reputation for having a short fuse. If he's defeated, it would be a huge political upset, but voters and Butte seemed excited about that possibility. Williams. She's running for. Bob injury. Hi, nice to meet you too. I'm against you and fourteen Nova for thank you so much. I could tell you are. Thank you. Meet everyone's gotta. Can come off as a little reserved, but she has kind of quiet force. It's a kind of political willpower that I would like to imagine. Rankin would respect and Williams working hard to get out the vote after she won the primary local paper, published an article with a photograph from her campaign. She's down on the ground and it's the middle of winter. She's putting snow chains on our tires so she can keep trekking across the state. And when it comes to rank in Williams, doesn't shy away from the occasional hat tip and on leave you with this. It's been over a hundred years. Jeannette Rankin deserves a successor. Join us. The fact that this Montana seat is even play kinda says it all about this political moment. It's still leaning Republican. But right now it's on the map and if Kathleen Williams flips it for Democrats, she will almost certainly be part of a record, breaking class of women coming into congress, but Jeannette Rankin story. Got me thinking what if we filled all four hundred thirty five seats in congress with women? Would it change anything about gender equity in America? There's this really, really old debate in social Justice, circles, sort of tension between ideology and identity. Does one matter more than the other if we want racial Justice, don't we need more leaders who are people of color. If we want gender equity, don't we first and foremost need more women in leadership roles put simply does gender matter. And if so, how? I asked to really smart women tackle this massive question. They're both Democrats both coming. This from the left, and I'm going to get out of the way and just let them go at it. So here's a conversation between daily news columnist, Alexis Grenell and Fordham university political scientist, Christina. Greer. So just voting for women for women's sake puts you on a road that can be dangerous road just because I think we've seen time time again where you know I was talked my students about descriptive versus substantive representation. So yes, I think it is really important for young people to see female elected mayors senators, members of the house governor's. You name it president one day. However, we have seen enough women be terrible. I would much rather a forward thinking male Representative than some regressive woman. Women are just people, and we're trying to make up for a huge deficit in representation. We, we have a huge body of research that will women are in power in government and politics that they do tend to advocate in advance for issues previously, not sort of on men's radar. Women tend to focus more on education issues relating to child care, it's cetera. So they leave lately. And we also know that black elected right when why people are elected, they tend to care about issues that disproportionately affect people of color. So the d. scripted representation is real right and it sometimes but not all the time to substantive representation. Right. And so the point being, I guess, is that we need more in office one because again, in a Representative democracy, women showed we should have more women that's argument in now shouldn't be fifty. One percent of the population have twenty senators like, that's ridiculous. That's ridiculous. But I do think we also need to bring up, right? Like not all women behave the same way. We see when we say women, it's just this wide rush. And for someone who works like politics, it's like, well, no, right now black women are the keepers of the Democratic Party and democracy. White women are the ones who have been and continue to uphold patriarchy and a lot of ways all sorts of the ballot boxes. So I think we also have to be a little more intentional. Sometimes when we talk about the power of women making. The progressive politics or big democrat politics happen. She's like, well, we disaggregated those numbers. We see that it hasn't necessarily been white women who have been on that agenda. It's as we've increased the number of women of color who are in the political sphere as voters elected or whatever it may be. That's also pushing a leftist agenda totally. But the substantive representation also, I wanted to aggregate from this sort of essential narrative. So like it's very popular right now every time some scandal, scarred man flames out of politics to be like. It's like. What is true is women don't have the same kind of problems that men have office. Like right women are unlikely to whip out their genitals and walk around bathrobe and Dana Nessel who's running for general, Michigan cut a hilarious, fabulous. Add where she said she was like, I will never wear bathrobe to work. I will version. That women won't uphold patriarchy because ever looked at American history or read Mark Twain for five pages. You know that like white women have been the keepers of patriarch along very logs. Let's elect more women, but not because I expect women to necessarily behave better than men. Well, so so women, we, you know this from a social science research that when women decide to pursue high office, typically they sort of wanna do it because they want to change something there. Some policy issue they care deeply about and it's it's usually it's oftentimes a decision that comes to them like later in life, perhaps where they're like, you know, I never thought I would do this, but dammit, I got so angry about running for office now, which is why this moment is so unique and interesting because after twenty sixteen you see the exactly the age diversity of women who were like, you know what? This is disgusting, and I'm so frustrated having this particular person either in the White House or the. Governor's house or whatever it may be like, I'm actually going to get off the sidelines, right? And so women tend to, you know, get worked up about something pursue office to do something. We know men typically run for office because they want to be someone that that anecdote a lot of politicians or politicos us where it's, you know, you tell the female candidate, you know, it's like, well, we've done your preliminary polling and it looks like you know, only forty percent of people are behind you and it's like, well, maybe I should sit this one out, you know, maybe maybe it should go back and think about why really wanna run and research more issues. And then you tell the the male candidates like, well, we did your preliminary polling. It's like two percent of people. Great. So like when do we get started in? Wow, but I think that's obviously much larger conversation about society and how from very young age, we conditioned dishing Meng bells as leaders. Well, so here's the thing about the data about this. Women are more collaborative idea. So the electorate is more willing to. To vote women into legislative bodies not into executive panache executive position, but legislative bodies because this is a little bit chicken. The I think this collaborative idea suits voters who understand women as nurturing is motherly kind of role and it that bias works in women's favor because it also gets elected to legislative offices because they can stand up and say, look, I'm going to work with people and get things done forever. You know, come right. That was a Lexus Grenell. And Christina Greer rear is a professor of political science at Fordham university, and the author of black ethnics Grenell is the co, founder of pithy public affairs. She also writes a column in the daily news about gender politics. If you have been enjoying this podcast and I hope you have, then please do us a favor. "The New York Times a former newspaper Senate cracked reporter to discover what on earth is wrong with our country. And it turns out it's white women, no right. Who'd have guessed you might have thought our biggest problem was unemployment, but Donald Trump fix that or ISIS, but Donald Trump fix that were unconstitutional. Looney tunes taking charge of our government and replacing the structures meant to protect our liberty with racist left wing, diktats, guaranteed to plunge us all into oppression and poverty, but Donald Trump fix that too. So what's left? Yes. It's those white girls. Alexis Grenell has studied these exotic creatures carefully by actually being one of them for many years, and she writes, quote, at my hand to God, I'm not making this quote up after a confirmation process where women, all but slit their wrists, letting their stories of sexual trauma run, like rivers of blood through the capitol. The Senate still voted to confirm judge Brehme Cavanaugh to the supreme court. The women who voted for him are gender traders were talking. White women, the same fifty, three percent who put their racial privilege ahead of their second class gender status in two thousand sixteen by voting to uphold a system that values only their whiteness on quote I could go on. But that would be like allowing the times to write my hilarious satire for me which would be wrong. But darn it. They're so funny, I just can't help it. You're some more in which sweet little Alexis tells us how she felt about Senator. Susan Collins. Speech is supportive cavenaugh. She writes, quote, Senator Collins subjected us to a slow funeral dirge about due process and some other nonsense. I couldn't even hear through my rage headache. That's right. Alexis has a headache. So we have to get rid of due process a Alexis. How about preserving American freedoms by holding the constitution, not tonight, dear. I have a headache because she has a point about white women. Some of those days are just plain nuts trigger warning. I'm Andrew klavan. This is the Andrew klavan show..

"It's utterly insane. Only somebody who has never really raised children in any serious capacity could think this or maybe if you think like maybe I've different strategy may. I don't know about Alexis Grenell situation. Maybe she has. Maybe she has maybe maybe all I will say is that it is a bad strategy to send your teenage girl to a high school in Hebron panties. Hey, just gonna just going to say it's a bad idea and it doesn't make your bad parents as it means that you're trying to protect your daughter from the fact that there are dangerous people in the world and also because maybe your daughter doesn't wanna look like a sex object all the time. It was just want to portray herself a sex object. I like how the feminist movement moved from the correct opinion about pornography. That pornography was objectification of women for the pleasure of men to pornography is empowerment of women. Yeah, I'm sure that all those men who are in their basements right now, watching stormy Daniels old tapes are thinking about the empowerment of women. They're all feminists. That's what they're thinking right now. But I love this women who show up at the capitol where and women for cavenaugh t shirts, probably tell their daughters, put him less revealing clothes though the as though, say I also like the equation put on less revealing clothes at the same thing as we want to make you a nun now. When and modesty becomes terrible thing. I think men should be modest too by the way just but let's not pretend that Mendome view women as sexualize objects, especially when women wear, I wear clothing that makes them more likely to be viewed as such. It's free country can wear what you want. I'm not saying you shouldn't wear what you want. I'm saying I wouldn't. I would tell my daughters that because I'm not an idiot. Okay, here's this piece continues. They're more sympathetic to Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah who actually shoot away a crowd of women and told them to grow up well, right? Because they were screaming at him, like, man, she's, we played the tape on the show and then he told them to grow up and then they told him to grow up, which was hilarious. And he's one million years old or Senator. Lindsey, Graham South Carolina, who's responsible women telling him she was raped was, I'm sorry, call the cops, which is again not an improper response. Like, I'm sorry that happened to you. Maybe you should talk to the authorities so we can catch the rapist and put him in jail is not a horrible response. I like, when did that become. A bad response. I'm just wondering, what do you think Lindsey Graham's going to do is go grab his pistol like somebody Sam and you're gonna lead them to a house is gonna burst through the front door. Lindsey, Graham, he's gonna burst through the front door. So like because have to shoot this fella now because this woman without any evidence said that she was raped by you like that that's going to happen. What do you think Lindsey, Graham is going to say, you want him to say a woman comes up because I was raped, you think, oh, what's he supposed to say at that point? You know what? Now the told me you were raped Brett Kavanagh's. Rapist. What in the rue? Okay. This continues and we will get deeper into the the insane maze, like mind of the of the left on these on these women's issues in just one second, but I, I, let's talk about how you can keep your hair. So you're looking up top and you're figuring, okay, I'm losing the hair up top and then look your pops and you say, oh, my dad lost all his hair. So maybe I should get active right now in trying to stop all of that. Maybe you've noticed you have a little less hair. Well, the thing is there to clinically proven medications. Let you keep your hair. And now they are inexpensive and easy to get. You don't need to lose your hair if you don't want to..

"So back to this war on women narrative that that the left is trying out, this is best exemplified by woman named Alexis Grenell. She has written on gender and politics for the new York, Daily News, the Washington Post and other outlets. So she's a professional useless person. And she writes a piece today that is titled white women come get your people, they will defend their privilege to the death. So what I like about this is that now the left is not just attacking men. Now it's not just war between women and men. Now it's a war between intersection -ality groups. So it's black women versus white women and Hispanic versus women versus white when because it turns out white women largely sided with Bret Cavs. No white women vote Republican more often because it turns out a lot of women actually think individually. Women don't always think like the left wants them to think which is fine and good. I thought the whole point of feminism is you get to think what you want to think, but not according to the feminist cure is this insane? I mean, this is fully grazie. This is like the butterfly net in the straitjacket stuff. Here's what here's what Alexis Grenell rights. You know, again, keeping with the moderate tone of Democrats lately, after confirmation process where women all but slit their wrists, letting their stories of sexual trauma run like rivers, broad through the capitol. The Senate still voted to confirm judge. Brett cabinet ought to the supreme court with the exception of Senator, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, all the women in the Republican conference caves, including Senator Susan Collins of Maine who held out until the bitter end all but slit their wrists, letting their stories of sexual trauma run that convert livers of broad through the capital. I wasn't aware that screaming at people was a necessitating factor in them agreeing with you. If you scream at people about your experiences that have nothing to do with Brad Kavanagh, Brad cabinet is guilty, but Alexis Grenell drops the hammer. These women are gender traitors to borrow a term from the TV series, the Handmaid's tale. First of all, I think that we ought to have a new rule. Now there's rule on the internet and about using Hitler. I'm trying to remember the rule about using Hitler on the internet, what's it called? There's an actual name for it that the Godwin's law. So it's called Godwin's law that basically the longer an internet argument goes on. The more likely somebody is going to drop Hitler in the middle of the argument. Well, the same thing now holds true for the Handmaid's tale called Shapiro's law. The longer any argument goes on with the left. The the more of an opportunity left is going to have to drop a reference to Handmaid's tale, the most overrated book last half century and a series that has become popular largely because the media have decided that it. Is deeply important for women to believe that they are on the verge of being sexually enslaved by men in a society where fewer women than ever in American history are getting married in which women are waiting longer to get married, having fewer children and having job and having more more income from jobs in than any time in American history. But women are this close their disclose. If Mike Pence has his way, we're going to stick those women in those red burqas and we're gonna just going to send and we're going to force them to reproduce with us. That's what we're gonna do. If Mike Pence has his way that evil evil, Mike Pence. So here's what Alexis Cornell writes. These women are gender terminators to borrow a term from the dystopia in TV series, the Handmaid's tale. They've made standing by the patriarchy, a fulltime job, the women who support them show up at the capitol where women for cavenaugh t shirts, but also probably tell their daughters to put on less revealing clothes when they go out. They tell their daughters not address all skimpy. Ooh, that means that they're bad moms because the best moms told their daughters to go out in the streets naked. That's the best mom is. Do I love that? I, I just have to stop right there. This notion that if you tell your daughter not to dress complete because she should respect herself more than that at this makes you a bad parent or restrictive parent is utterly insane..
