"Fans. We got Liverpool fans. Oh Man United fans and just try. You know there's like six of US talking at one so I try and keep it all together so that was a lot of fun but yeah guys. I hope you have a great weekend. Weekend enjoyed the show and I love you goodbye. We know this thing of welcome in to lads podcast or a lot of Americans discussing soccer. Today we have a special guest. Mattie NIP NIPS my pronouncing that correct it is yeah yeah the just like night like a knight in shining armor. That's me I mean this is our first night fucking Shinar had had on the shows. I'm very excited. He is the host of the underdog soccer podcast. Is that correct that sure is yep all right you can give them a a follow on twitter at Underdog S. P. You can listen to them on itunes and soundcloud Maddie's or anything else. I'm missing. I JUST WANNA make sure I get all your plugs in the beginning. Just those two I'm I'm on a very limited amount of places right now right now though but as of now correct those the only two all right so I want to start offer that what inspired the name underdog soccer podcasts if you look at the logo is just like the US obviously the abbreviation for the name of the pod and also a giant American flag across the country or like filled in in the countries the American flag a what kind of inspired this so so first of all. It's a so an acronym a little bit. It's US P like United States podcast but also so little wordplay there let her play play but the United States men's national team definitely for the most part takes on the underdog role and I feel like I guess that's when we were better. you know a handful years ago four years ago five years ago we when we played we own that underdog role of going into a game with in the World Cup like we weren't supposed to win. We weren't supposed to you know get as far as we did other years so we're just kind of a thing that I thought represented the men's national team really well No I completely agree. I think we always take on and I feel like though as Americans we feel as though as as a country who've been underdogs you know from the beginning since we became a country so I think that's a great way how we've kind of shape that into our American soccer where all other sports sports we just dominate so what exactly is your soccer journey is. That sounds really fucking cliche. But what is your like you know would do you have a background background and soccer. Did you play or were you just always a big fan. How walk me through that okay yes so I grew up playing but I grew up in New Orleans or right outside of in New Orleans and and they didn't have like Louisiana I think has like the most. NFL players per capita compared to any other state in most college football players in high school and whatever so in the same probably with baseball so it is a state that is mostly focused on baseball and football so soccer gets very minimal amount of representation like. I don't think there's ever been like other than Jason Kreis. I don't think there's ever been anyone from the state of Louisiana. That has done significantly well on the national stage so growing up it was it was a lot of just a club soccer in rec soccer and like we had dad's coaching us and so we were always decent grown-up but I swam as well so I swam in college for four years and the little tiny school that I went to had a decent soccer team and I just kind of walked on my last semester there and see yeah played there for a semester played a little bit of like Adult League after that had quite a few acl and other knee surgeries so now at you know my mid thirty S. I'm I'm done playing soccer in this is my contribution to staying as close to the sport as I can without being able to play it basically so is is that what kind of inspired the podcast. You're like all right. This is me an outlet to kind of give my thoughts and I feel as though I can make a reasonable contribution to the media. That's out there. Would that be the fair to say oh absolutely and it was you know I my first episode was January late January of twenty eighteen and so that was you know two months or so after they lost to Trinidad and Tobago in the World Cup qualifying so it also had to do with that and and you know I was getting into podcasts in general and I was looking for a soccer podcast that was Kinda just devoted to the United States states men's national team and there there wasn't much at all at that time of year like less than two years ago like and so I was kind looking for something and you know I listened to a couple. ESPN ones and I listened to men and I almost men in coats men in Blazers and and you know no discredit to them but I was just looking for something that focused one hundred percent of its effort on the national team and so I didn't there weren't for many outlets out there so I kinda just said we'll. We'll want to try and do my own thing. Why not me know exactly and I totally I totally agree with those. You've you've mentioned there's tons of other soccer podcast who I'm friends with or no through the twitter verse stuff like that where it's feels they just touched upon it maybe only for five ten minutes segments or like just only when they're playing or when they lose to say. Trinidad and Tobago and you've got Alexi Alexi Lalas losing his ginger mind so it just depends pens. I think you're absolutely right. Were you know these laws. Aren't you know you've found your certain niece whereas like there was a need for it so I love that and I I think it's neat because like honestly on our show we barely touch upon the US Ms Ashton team only when they're playing and you know during the World Cup. We didn't talk about them at all so so next question is how is the US men's national team. Doing we obviously had the international break does a very broad question but but let me change up this question real quick. I'm GonNa keep you on your toes so going from that underdog in the two thousand fourteen World Cup where we had that amazing run we almost came back against Belgium. We are that great match against Portugal until Rinaldo no did Renaldo things and now we have this squad which kind of seems like we're going for this young you full talented team that a lot of the players are playing in Europe. Have you seen what have you seen in terms of changed from then to now so I feel like I feel like a lot of these these eighteen to nineteen and and maybe even a couple years younger than that. I feel like this group now. How is pushing themselves at a faster rate at a younger age than a lot of previous generations I I think that in from what I've heard from many different sources that Tab Ramos The U. Twenty coaches like tells Dell's those kids on the u twenty's to like push themselves to not necessarily take the easy route and go to the MLS but he's the one pushing them to go to Europe and tryon latch onto a an academy team and move themselves up through the ranks and do that and I think that's part of the reason why we see so many players at that young age playing at I ax PSV in in Dorfman all these other clubs that are the known like worldwide for developing young players so I think that's definitely a bonus I think that's definitely were were walking in the right direction moving in the right direction so hopefully that all I mean we're still in a bit of a shit hole but I I feel like we're building right now very slowly a case for twenty twenty six to make some big moves and there's a a lot of hopefulness in all of my thoughts right now so you know I'm not saying we're GONNA win the World Cup in Twenty Twenty six but I'm just saying unlike the way things are being built in twenty nineteen it setting us up for to do pretty well. In Twenty Twenty six twenty twenty two will be decent isn't but I think also hosting the World Cup in Twenty Twenty Six. That'll help us out a lot well. My next question is we're going to qualify for the next one right like I don't. It's like I. I never had to question that but now I do so mad what we're GONNA make it right well. It could be tutor from ways because one if it still thirty two teams I would assume and say yes but if it's more than thirty two teams then definitely one hundred percent sent. There won't be a even question but but I guess that's just for twenty twenty six. I think they're increasing team so twenty twenty two. I mean we should I still you know Mexico's better right now but I still don't think any of those teams can or should be able to put together constantly playing in the heck's through against the United States improving their better so in twenty twenty two yes. They absolutely should okay well. My next question is what have you made of the very short tenure of Gregg Berhalter so far. I've seen both sides of the coin where some people we're saying like Oh. He needs more time to play with these young kids. I've seen the other side saying like this. Guy Is definitely not ready to be coaching at this level how you felt about his tenure so far so I'll teacher and one thing that frustrates the Shit Outta me is when I'm like micromanaged and like I've been doing this for a while and when I'm told told to do things a certain way it. Kinda gets frustrating because I know what I'm doing. I'm a professional. Even if I'm in over my head you've hired me to do a job. Let me do my job job so I can kind of look at it that way with Berhalter. He was not my first choice. I wasn't thrilled that he was hired but he's he's in the position. He's in the job and so now that he's there. I WANNA give him an adequate amount of time to do do everything he can to prove that he's the guy for the job is not so the idea of already firing him it has not even been on my mind and you know nine months into it or you know you can look back a couple of months because people weren't happy with the Gold Cup and they weren't happy with the Gold Cup team selection person so the idea of him already being canned is is not even on my radar so I'm willing to give him. At least a year's coming up in January are actually December but a year from when he started games end you know there's not a window and international window from Camp Cupcake January until March arch and in March that's when they'll play the semi final and final of Nations League which the qualifying starts in October so I'm almost just just willing to give him at least a year and a almost a half until March and see how things go then so. I'm kind of just like putting it on hold..

"So very little reason to the point where I looked at the tweet again this morning and tweeted about it again. And he finally replied, quote, what statement now's like Alexi, the tweet that captioned from you, man. You don't you you stupid cow. Just look what I couch. I can I just say something real quick hit me Alexi Alexi Lalas must be so confused by our account just because a couple of days ago. I tweeted both I recently just started wearing a mustache. And I remembered Alexi Lalas also ginger like me, so I put a picture side by side of like who did it better and he liked commented saying like, I dislike that you're looking into my eyes. And I said me too. But Alexi must be used. Do these guys like me or not? I don't know. But I feel like he doesn't understand that there's two people running the Twitter account. But when when my boys starts beefing of someone I don't care if I like are not my boys beefing with you. I got I gotta get his back. I mean, so through so now we got beef. We got beef Alexi you're saying some dumb shit, which you know, is not far off Alexi Lalas, usually I don't like him because he'll just speak his mind and he'll call shit out. And then other times, I'm like, sometimes his mind is dumb. And this is one of the points where his mind is super dumb. I just I don't know. Blaze meal so much. But it did it just during I reacted. It was a very blanket statement. I like I saw two I didn't really pick up on it until you got pissed off on me. I should be. You're just feed off someone's being like angry too. That's literally me, and you all the time when we're hanging out just feed off each other's anger or excitement or drunkenness. We're just like you're getting fucked up. I'm getting fucked up. Let's do let's do this weight. Like, you're in the wrong. I don't fucking care. Let's go. So let's transition Alexi Lalas. We'll keep you posted with our beef. So far, I mean Alexi feel free to come on the podcast and discuss moving on speaking of other soccer, commentators or pundits. I don't know what to call grant wall. He's a reporter. He's a reporter. I a big j journalists he recently did a piece on white supremacy in molest. So apparently, I'm going to paraphrase this apparently there's been some white supremacy groups in the New York f c. New york. Red bulls, organizations and grit walls pretty much calling out both MLS organization saying like what the fuck do something about this a lot of their supporters say like, hey, like the clubs have been aware of this. Like what's going on in my whole thing is like one fuck Nazis been saying that from day one of this podcast fuck Nazis. I even tweeted at grant wall that gift of like Rick Rick in summer from the show, Rick and Morty being the shit out of a Nazi which is classic. But yeah, so all I gotta say is fuck Nazi. And what is what this white supremacy? Like we talked about a couple of weeks ago about that dude from Florida trying to raise white supremacy. He wants to go fight, the Millwall firm, or whatever he wants to start his own firm and just fight people. I don't get like why white supremacy is going toward soccer. I guess we're trying to mimic like hooliganism white supremacy over in England, which is just like not cool. Not cool, man. Where soccer is supposed to be. Like, fuck racism is supposed to be like, the only sport. Where like you get people like eleven people from eleven different countries could make a starting eleven like it's supposed to be the most like multicultural sport. Which is the most watched sport. And we have a World Cup where everyone from different countries compete. So I don't get this whole white supremacy thing at all. But I think that's about it. So fuck Nazis Martin. Yeah..
