Guest Host Kurt Schlichter and NRA's Cam Edwards Discuss Firearm Rights

"Want to talk about firearm rights, the guy you go to is our next guest from bearing arms. My friend, cam Edwards, cam. Welcome to the Mike Gallagher show. Hi, can you appreciate the invite? Always good to be here. It's a nice change of pace, because when I was beginning in this, I would do your weekly show or I do your show every week. And that's right. Where's my chops? So to speak. Well, listen, it's cool to have the shoe on the other foot, but you are still an occasional guest on the bearing arms game in W podcast, and I get the opportunity to sit in. You are also a gracious guest as well. So it's good to have this conversation. I'm really glad you got a chance to go shooting. Over the years. I did. I did. I was shot various weapons with members of the family because that's what you do in Texas. 32 caliber Glock, small small frame was not impressed by it. 9 millimeters small frame Glock, not impressed by that either, although I like Glock. And an AR-15 derivative. And nice 22. Those are what we shot? Nice. That's fantastic. Good for you. Yeah. Now, of course, I can't conceal carry because I'm in Los Angeles and all I am is a 27 year army veteran who literally carried a machine gun on the streets of Los Angeles. But in Texas, I could. So I was kind of trying out my conceal carry options. Oh, nice. You know what? I'm actually curious. You should do a science experiment in the new year because Alex villanueva, the sheriff there and LA county. He's liberalized his approval of concealing applications. And that means they've gone from like, okay, can you remind they're like 10 million people in Los Angeles County. Last year, I think there were 200 active concealed carry permits. I think now they're over a thousand. No. One thing you can say, look, man, 400% increase the number of kids you'll carry licenses. But as you say, it's still incredibly difficult. Look, it's not difficult. It's impossible

"Today. You find also a civilian that their blacks were as late as 1930, blacks had lower unemployment rates than whites. So all these things that we complain about and attributes a little arrow slavery. Those things should have been worse in the past and in the present. Right. But in fact, they're worse than the president in the past. And I think if you want to look for a turning point, it would be since the 1960s. And what happened in the 1960s? Oh, you began to have not only the welfare state. He began to have the mindset that goes with the welfare state. So that there was no stigma any longer attached, for example to being one relief. All welfare. Triple 8 9 7 one SAG triple 8 1901, 7 two four three. I am Larry elder, we are relief at dot com studio. First speaker was pastor voting Bakken. As you heard he grew up without a father and the second speaker was the great Thomas soul who also grew up without a father. But he said, in his neighborhood, we grew up in New York. He was about the only one who didn't have a father. It was rare. Now, tomorrow, we're going to be talking with the LA county sheriff Alex van nueva who says he's not going to insist that his employees of his department. Vaccinated. He said he's not anti vax he's been vaccinated, but he's not going to mandate that his employees be vaccinated as is required by the LA county board of supervisors they've issued an order that all county employees shall be vaccinated. He says he does not intend to enforce that order which I could imagine. The heat is going to be disciplined or fired. We'll be talking to sheriff Alex villanueva. Tomorrow. You know Joe Biden fell asleep at the conference on climate change. Yes, this is the 5th day of the president's overseas tour and he was seen on camera with his eyes closed. It appears that perhaps he was dozing. And in these settings, cameras are all around and the maybe he's just checking his eyelids for holes. I am Larry elder. Let's do this again tomorrow. Out. That's enough put down the money. I want to thank Larry for the job. He's done. All across America. But Mike has been dropped. The Larry elder.

LA Sheriff Alex Villanueva Says Vaccine Mandate Won’t Be Enforced

"Are you gonna do when the sheriff of one of america's most highly populated counties. Says he won't enforce a mandate. That's exactly what los angeles sheriff alex villanova shed. Are you forcing your officers. Set the vaccine to get the vaccine. As i said no. I'm not forcing anyone. The issues become so politicized. Their entire groups of employees are willing to be fired and laid off rather than get vaccinated. So i don't wanna be a a position to lose five. Ten percent of my workforce overnight and mac vaccine mandate while at the same time our barebones with the funding effort. So this is the worst of two worlds right here so we have to pick and so the sheriff points out they wanted to fund us and they want us to fire our sheriff's deputies who don't want to get vaccinated.

"An outcome then that is not good. We're going to switch now and talk about the surge in the covert delta variant. La county supervisors Chair hilda so lease issued an order saying that all county employees must get the vaccine including sheriff's deputies. Do you understand the public concern with an agency that is charged with protecting the public thinking that there is a you know a good chance that someone who you call upon to help you might not be vaccinated and could put your health at risk this very true but we have to also consider their constitutional concerns that need to be addressed and impis or wearing the mask in the field. They're wearing the masks at the businesses. La county sheriff alexander way but. Do you have any idea how much has been paid out in settlements to families who have been victimized by officers civilian shootings. You'd have to give me a a bracket or a timeframe for that but It's a. I believe over the last ten years i wanna say was about fifty four million but actually the bigger payout in terms liability for that part is always been traffic collisions not shootings since one thousand nine hundred ninety l. a. county has paid out roughly fifty five million dollars in settlements in lawsuits related to the gangs operating within the la county sheriff's department twenty-one million in just the last ten years gangs like the bandidos the reapers the executioners the vikings regulators in twenty nineteen the fbi was investigating whether those deputies were using gang light tactics to recruit young latino deputies and retaliating against them if they rebuffs them you have in the past downplayed the significance of those gangs and at one point called them quote a cultural norm. I will say that you used the term. Gang is a actually. That's fraught with the legal implications at the fast do not support describing them as a gangster very specific definition would again constitutes in a lot of worry about gangs as actually now that the department is majority. Latino led by latino sheriff is taken out a very big racial undertone that they must be gangs because they're latinos. So i'm gonna push back very hard against that description that anymore. Let's call cliques. Let's call them. Cliques okay. I will give him that. Let's call them cliques. Still fifty five million dollars is paid out since nineteen ninety twenty one million in the last ten years and you said you were going to address the problem and i have done exactly that no very first day in office. I removed the campaign of east. La station for his failure to do his job. Addressing these deputy clicks in fact my predecessor did absolutely nothing to aggressively root out the issues of the development these clicks and their hazing things that they've been engaged in misconduct. So we i in office. I took out east. La station captain replaced entire chain of command east la station. Ultimately thirty six people were moved out of the station. We terminated for employees. We suspended of a twenty two employees. We did everything possible on top of that. We created a policy first of his kind on the department. Dip prohibits deputies form these clicks in harming either fellow employees or members of the community in now. We're enforcing that. That was a february twenty twenty. So we're doing everything possible legally to do it. The problem is the political establishment. Specifically the board of supervisors cannot accept the fact. That we are holding deputies accountable. It doesn't so well for them. Well clarify this for me. Then you earn chavez was was put in place to to help make those moves right. Transfer those deputies and he said an interview that thirty-six transfers were voluntary some due to promotions and. he wasn't even sure how many had been aligned with the bandidos click and then the attorney for deputies who alleged they were beaten by bandido affiliated deputies. Say that only six gang members were transferred and the deputies who were accused in that beating incident. We're actually put on paid administrative leave. Is that a hard enough stance. Actually there The the comments of commander job is are not consistent with his actions or statements to our administration because a thirty six number came from him and he was given a specific instructions. What to do when he got east. La carried them out and later on if he wants to revise it that we can control the fact of the matter. Is the four defendants on that lawsuit. Were the ones that were terminated in. That is something that doesn't really fit the false narrative that they're trying to sell so we have to keep that in my relationship with the la county. Board of supervisors has been contentious from the outset. Why real simple. The endorsed my opponent. And they've been leveraging every single county permanent every single action to discredit in de-legitimize the sheriff's department in my my job as sheriff of la county. And it's not gonna work. They sued you after you reinstated. Deputy karen coleman doyen who was fired as most of us know in two thousand sixteen after allegations of domestic abuse and stocking county appeals board did uphold that dismissal you further even said the woman who made the claims and provided. The video was incredible. Do you regret that choice. Was that the hill to die on. Actually when it comes to the fourteenth amendment and due process yes you have to follow the law. You have to follow where the evidence takes you and if the process were manipulated per abused or someone who has what they call them exonerate or exculpatory evidence in that is hidden from the civil service commission that is a very serious activist comic actually rises to the level of criminal conduct and they were okay with that because the end justifying the means in the eyes of the board of supervisors that is not acceptable. You have to be a good employer if you terminate people has to be based on 'cause you have to have the evidence to support it if you manipulate the process for.

Every single person we detain, we arrest their entire board Do profits were sure that every time someone dies in an officer involved shooting that disease Is entitled to the due process. Well, we're gonna ensure that L a county Sheriff Alex Villanueva yesterday defending his department after Sheriff's deputies shot and killed a 29 year old man named Dijon Kizzie in south L. A Monday. He's the second man killed by sheriff's deputies in that neighborhood. In the last three months, Kissy was riding a bicycle when deputies tried to stop him for violating vehicle codes. Joining me now is Ruben Vives, reporter for the Los Angeles Times High Hello. Thanks for having me. Great to have you? Well, the times your paper obtained some video footage of this incident. What does it show? Well, it shows it's very hard to see. But it shows John walking asleep being confronted by deputies. There is a scuffle that breaks out. And then shortly you see the two deputies opening fire on John, and that's pretty much The video. How many shots were fired? Well, we know that from another video footage that we received from a neighbor who from their doorbell, their door ring counted about 15 gun shots. Of course team were 15 gunshots were heard on that particular video. Ah, and we are, of course, waiting on the corner and Alex Sheriff's department to come out with their own. Obviously, facts about the fishery. So what do we know? Now? I know there's still a lot of things we don't know. But what is the general outline of what happened? He was riding a bicycle and officers. I tried to stop him. Yeah, pretty much on Monday afternoon to definitely spotted him. He was riding a bicycle. They say that he violated some vehicle code. Although the department has yet to see what code specifically They tried to talk to him or approach him, I guess, And he dropped by school ran off. They cheat after and and then he turned on 109th place. Which is the Westmont neighborhood area that I'm speaking about in try Tio stop him again. And that is when a ZAY described from the grainy video that we've obtained. It shows the deputy's running up to him, and you know, there's a scuffle that breaks out. He drops a bundle of clothes. There's a gun that falls falls out, according to the Chose department and and that's what led them to open fire. That last bit of evidence the gun that's in dispute right because some witnesses said they didn't see a gun. Yeah. I mean, there's also Ah, The Sheriff's department also says that Dijon punched a deputy. There are witnesses who were watching the altercation happened, saying that that was that never happened. They reckon concerned. They're raising questions about whether there was a gun. They're there. And if there wasa did he actually have it Did? He actually pointed that deputies? They're just the main thing is that was deadly force even necessary. Could have this been, uh, prevented by handling it in a whole non vehicle way. Right. And so there have been protests since this happened on Monday. One of the areas of concern is that his body was left there in the street for many, many hours, right. Yes, I mean, one thing that I speaking to Ah, residents yesterday. What was sort of telling was that you know, there were no paramedics called. In fact, one neighbor told me that it took about five minutes for them to even approach Did John's body On, then handcuffed and this's all after the shooting. So he playing there? Five minutes go by. They finally had come from and then you know, then the investigation into the shooting. Happens. I'm not sure they determine whether he was died at that point or not, but, uh You know just those those talks alone over a very disturbing to hear You know, handcuffing him after shooting maybe a dozen rounds. Well, I mean, there are protocols that the sheriff's department has to follow. But AH, just not even calling paramedics. Even within that time frame is what was pretty pretty disturbing to hear from residents. Obviously, this has left him very upset there. Calling for. Ah, you know again, they're criticizing the sheriff's department there calling for body cameras to be equipped on these deputies, and and that's why you're seeing these protests happening. So the sheriff's deputies were not wearing body camps. They were not no All right. Still a lot of questions about this incident. I want to thank you so much for updating us..

We are committed to getting something done over the course of the next few weeks on eviction protections, Newsome proposed using a settlement fund from the 2008 housing crisis to help struggling renters and mom and pop landlords. The state has around $300 million in that account. Lawmakers have until August 31st to pass bills. If they don't get through this to do list, Newsome could call them back into a special session, but that would cut into time they normally spend campaigning before the election. Cap radios Nicole Nixon reporting. The only county sheriff's department says it will begin rolling out body cameras in October. Sheriff Alex Villanueva said yesterday. The 1st 1200 will go to deputies at five stations with another 4000 Come within five years. The absence of body cameras has made the sheriff's Department and outlier among major law enforcement agencies. The PPD started introducing the devices five years ago. County Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas, who pushed body cams back in 2012 has blamed the sheriff's department for the long delays yesterday, the Nueva Blaine County leaders with whom he frequently locks horns. For allegedly dragging their feet the border supervise and ran out of excuses in ways to block it. That's what happened. It took 20 months to overcome the resistance. During a news conference, Villanueva called the use of body cameras a major step toward transparency. And he predicted that the cameras would exonerate deputies accused of misconduct and in today's climate where everyone is down to the product of law enforcement. I can say honestly that with the binding one cameras, the public themselves can see that what deputies they're saying and doing in the field matches. What they're seeing on video release of footage can cut both ways. Many advocates for police reform say killings and use of force incidents by sheriff's deputies could be easier to prosecute.
