"It would explain why the Chinese communists don't allow didn't allow Western observers into this area didn't allow People to come in to help contain the outbreak when it first started before it had gone around the world and killed millions of people are hundreds of thousands of people. So this idea now? That leftist used to attack conservatives for floating Is now being mainstream. It's now making sense. It's now actually there's a lot of Evan. I'm not going to read you this piece. It's and it's probably about 5000 words, but they make a pretty compelling case that China Created this virus. They manufactured this virus. Not to be a worldwide pandemic. But in an attempt to learn more than looking if they can create a virus and then a vaccine for lesser versions of that virus up to that bank. They're heroes. Then they get the respect which is wildly important over there. That they feel they deserve. It's just weird. How now this idea that was horribly wildly and inappropriately racist. Just a couple of weeks ago, is now Mainstreamed to the point that it's no big deal to say it out loud. Just how it is off course Democrats always Change their goal lines. Leftists, progressives always change their goal post moving their back must be killing them from carrying gold posts constantly. A New York Post reports that China says Joe Biden will quote restore normalcy. The U. S relations with China. Normalcy. The word that Democrats love to use. Sometimes. Certain things are normal. You know, Donald Trump in a way that he was president away was on the international stage was not normal. He is upsetting all the norms. You know it Z every time he tweet criticism of the press. What was it? Donald Trump is upsetting the norms. Can you believe this haze? Sees the he's upsetting all these so called norms. We're going to return to normal. What was normal? What North? Normal was the United States exporting jobs to China? What was normal? Woz, China eating our lunch in trade deals. China running roughshod over us constantly. That's the normal that China wants. Shouldn't be the normal that you want normal was China controlling our pharmaceutical? Manufacturing. That really what you want. That's what Joe Biden is going to bring back. By the way, the word normal that Democrats love to throw around when it comes to some things doesn't necessarily apply to other things, you know. Normal is you've got men and you've got women. That's not the normal Anymore. Now it is. Let's get the cut one here. The opening day of the new Congress. Congress woman, Emanuel Cleaver. From Missouri Democrat, Of course. Gave the opening prayer because why not? Talk about normal. Tell me if this Is normal. Cut one. Go ahead. We ask it in the name of the monotheistic God. Manner and God, known by many names by many different faiths. The man. A woman, a man and a woman that normal That normal or Democrats upsetting norms? Because I thought that upsetting norms were bad. I thought that was the exclusive domain of Donald Trump. It is certainly not normal. Amen has nothing to do with men. It it is ancient Hebrew. Roughly translated means so be it. It's like it's the way that since prayer was invented, people have closed out prayers, but somehow Because the left is so damned insane. And a man and a woman. Well, why? Just two y so binary dude. What about the gender fluid people? What about gender, confused or gender quality? Whatever whatever they've made up in the last 28 minutes. Theo. It. Their particular needs. Why not just a person, But then again? Not everybody identifies as a person. A being. Got to be somebody who doesn't identify as a being. How about just a We could all end prayers like we're fund Z. How about that? Upsetting norms wouldn't want to upset norms and oh, by the way all those words you've used your entire life that had one meaning now have new meanings entirely, but that's can't possibly upset. Norms. We must restore Our normal relations with China. It's like the way they do with taxes. Republicans cut taxes. Democrats come in saying We've got to get rid of those tax cuts and you say, Why do you want to raise taxes and we're not raising taxes were restoring taxes to where they were were restoring them to normal. No, it's not normal taxes have actually no normal that taxes are whatever they happen to be at any given time set by somebody high low whatever. But tax hikes by Democrats are Portrayed by the left as repealing tax cuts. Tax hikes. They view it as it's their money, they need to return it to normal. To make it right or something insane like that. I can't claim to understand the logic. I just get how they lie about it lie about reality. Let's let's talk to Alex in Baltimore. Welcome to show Alex. Happy New Year having really you, Derek. Glad to have you back another another day of Derek Hunter. Explaining how the left just doesn't make sense on their nonsensical. When are we going to get to the point? Derek when we decide that they're lying, You know, my father taught me when I was like 10, he said, it's something doesn't make sense. Somebody's lying. So why? Why? Well, Alex Steen Alex, do you ever remember we did connect the dots is a kid, right? Yes, Derek? Yeah. So you got 10 dots and they look like they're in a circle. How many of those dots do you need connected before? You know, it's a circle. Couple 34, maybe seven. Or whatever it begins to take shape and you begin to see what it is. I have faith in you guys. Being able to connect those dots and not everything has to be hit on the nose constantly. It's there's power in implication, and there's involving the audience in drawing the conclusions. I put on a fax out there. And I believe that people could draw their own conclusions that they don't need me to chew and digest their food that people can do that for themselves. I just put it on the plate. There's okay, There's that, but last year, you know I had to listen to you complain about it, and I hate him too. Black lives matter, but You always preface it by saying, But I respect their right. Protest. You know, I don't believe I ever did that. But I do. But I don't. I'm not much of a qualifier. You respect their right to protest. Well, they can protest all they want. I don't have to respect them or their right to protest. They could just do it. I don't respect is not a word I throw around very often or easily in any event. Well respected their rights and respecting them is different, but I don't respect isn't really a word that I use. I just do it if it's considered his respect that it is, if it's considered his disrespect than it is, I don't I'm not Somebody who you know. Cares about that word very much to be honest with you. Of Donald Trump has asked everyone every patriot to come to D. C tomorrow. There's been a couple protest since the election. The fraud is gosh darn obvious. And Alex you got Can you hold on for a second? Because Gerry's clicking at me? We gotta take a break. Let you make your point about that in the second. We'll be right back. Honey, How was your walk? It was great.

"Yeah, exactly. He is a character. I don't know if you've met Alex Steen. And so, Yeah, um, from a different time, And basically, she said, you know, we have been here since 1976. All these hip restaurants have come and gone. We've been hearing people will come from everywhere to have our you know, peasant food. Um, As you know, some critics have called it in the past. Um and, yeah, he sees the development to the development of Cook County Hospital into a very beautiful Hyatt. As indicative of like, you know, this place is about to be is about to boom. There's a lot of opportunity here, he acknowledges, you know that there could be more restaurants on the street that there could be better streetscaping things like that that he wishes he had more polish. But he's quite optimistic about the area. Um, you know, on the brink of something good, Um, Young PC has to have the university there. It's all about getting young people to come in because otherwise, you know, where's your future as a business person, so he feels good about it. He's also you know, has amazing stories of kind of like Chicago. That makes him a legend. They know And so there's there's a branch there as he put it, um, that that has staying power. Any ideas and you had to me like, you know other, You know if you're Italian restaurant in like some nowhere street that was Bill brand, but then you're really in trouble. But he's not back. It's part of Chicago history and hopefully great town and little Italy will survive okay to change a little bit with the times, but hopefully the heart of those two communities will will live on. And, uh, great piece. It was. It was a fun read, although somewhat concerning, But if you want to check it out, you can still find it online at the Chicago Tribune. The headlines struggling to save their souls. Some worry of the pandemic could be the last draw for a little Italy and Greektown Alexia. Ella. How they Ruiz, Who wrote that along with Ryan, Orry and Alexia, Thanks for talking to us about it today. Thank you so much.

"Weeknights at ten thirty that's a nine but of course you can catch it also here on seven twenty WGN I just of the corn IV got C. W. twenty six of my coworker Chris does on the screen right now reminding folks that our morning show is not currently on the air broadcasting were a little bit of a hiatus for you can find all of our cool stuff at the gym TV show we're gonna live on Facebook tomorrow nine to eleven and it's really fun to interact kindly with you hear on the radio it's almost like TV on the radio wait now TV and the internet is like radio in the apps you can ask questions and interact in TV it's a little bit harder will follow me I'm smart and talk well three one two nine eight one seventy two hundred I knew I'd be in a better mood by the time the show got really going up three oh nine best sporting event I ever see best non sporting event I ever saw and of course right when I clicked on it I missed it I'll get back to that one six real I was at the United center when the hawks win the Cup in twenty fifteen un flippin that believable yeah I was in that something that in tire series was incredible it was so close in action in fact the entire series if I have if memory serves me correct was all played with both teams within a goal no team had a two goal lead until Patrick Kane scored the game the the second goal in game six at the United center the hawks went up to nothing when Kane scored with what five six minutes left to go in the third period and that was the first time in the series that a team led by two goals and the hawks won that one and if everyone remembers the light means storm that ran through the area that day severe storms flooded many different streets and a delayed the arrival of the Stanley Cup what's funny is I was in the building and I had no idea I just thought that that it just took a little while for the presentation we were so elated inside I would even notice that was part of the story and read about it for days later da da da da three one two nine eight one seventy two hundred of this through to this might be cooler Sunday but I was that what was probably the last bulls game of the season yeah and you probably didn't know it at the time of the day three one two or seven away there is no panic just switch out the trees get for Papa John's or something real and that way you'll not have to eat processed food no guild this way well tell you what I don't have guilt this sorry yeah I yeah I'm sure if I read the ingredients I'd read some long words that I wouldn't be able to say there my comfort food and I don't feel guilty afterwards maybe I should maybe I will at one point maybe when the box is gone tonight way quicker than it should have been I do appreciate the you looking out for me I found that sex again seven seven three best non sporting event I attended was Stevie Wonder at the United center really cool stuff through into ninety one seventy two hundred John Q. sack I was walking to WGN the old building for thirty five north Michigan and I was kind of going across I I was on the sidewalk on Michigan Avenue and I was approaching an alley like between two big buildings and I was walking I didn't hear anything else on this scooter zooms all right in front of me I mean it almost clipped me and you know I didn't want us to do an expletive but I look and it's John Q. sack riding his scooter away down Michigan Avenue and I was like I think that's him you know you can never be quite sure but it really looks like it has a very distinctive look I knew a connection to Chicago so I googled John Cusack Chicago and there were a bunch of pictures of him on scooters so that had to have been John Cusack that almost hit me didn't even give me their cursory beep beep I have forgiven him though we've been talking all week about the effect of coronavirus on many different industries I think the one that a lot of people have zeroed in on and rightfully so is the restaurant in the industry and also hotel industry too but really restaurants suffering here Bob a chance to talk to R. J. melon about that this morning a let him do the intro I love the smell of disinfectant in the morning okay strange times especially for the restaurant business R. J. Millman is with this now R. J. I holding up add doing okay thanks for having me on how many lettuce entertain you restaurants in the Chicago area and across the country now what's the what's the count what's the number a hundred thirty across the country well you have your hands full RJ is the president of lettuce entertain you and we've been talking about a lot of restaurateurs tried to help their employees and also help us by making a Kerry out of delivery to go food available and as we mentioned the all the medical experts remind us that there's no reports of any any kind of illness to suggest covert nineteen can be transmitted by food or food packaging so as far as the delivery operation or food to goal R. J. S. this can't make up anywhere near it what you guys are losing at this time right you know I mean there's no playbook for you know most of your restaurant basically getting shattered overnight across the country there's not a plan in place that delivery can make up for all to go can make up for what it does do and and Houston that's just basically across every restaurant group across the country is that they've had to follow their employees and and and sadly and operate in a restaurant business that requires failed to make money would be hard to have a sales force people make food and and and serve food and manage the people who do that thank you it's almost impossible it's bad to say that that is the case but I thought it so the delivery it certainly cutting against some of those furloughs or layoffs around the industry you know it's something that no one ever contemplated apparatus it's so so sad for us to do that for everyone that I talk to an industry but the delivery definitely helps keep people working I think it creates a sense of normalcy for a lot of the people deciding that they still get to get their favorite restaurants and have comfort food while they're you know locked in their homes or or or shelter in place then and prestigious something we feel we want to do and we have so many people that that I think loved serving gas on a daily basis right I mean the people I've talked to and do their curtain financially but they're also really missing the interaction with the customers and that went through that's what makes our Chicago is great that's what makes our restaurant scene so great here and and people like you guys and we just talked about Phil Stefani and Alex Steen and so many other great restaurant people who are great great the community leaders and great neighbors there's a great new website dining at a distance and there's a lot of information on on that side about well what the the lettuce entertain you restaurants are doing and what a lot of restaurants are doing so you guys are coming up with some special family deals and a lot of your places right what a lot of us Peter Pan laid up for three days a week or five days a week where we actually rolled out it became so popular we're doing Monday Wednesday Friday I think we had a Tuesday Thursday and Saturday to it as well about fifty Bucks a night cook county force about twelve fifty a person for pick up the delivery and information that L. U. Y. dot com all of the special that lot of the restaurant individually are doing up on special out there doing cocktail kit and things to just make it more fun while you're on in quarantine or like a shelter in place this one of those are some big difference it pop in that time to to do that but yep we gotta keep Smilin and so when we when we order from one of our favorite restaurants now we're actually helping a lot of people who normally would work at the restaurant and we can't forget tipping right now and maybe a little extra tip would be appreciated wouldn't it yeah we've you know we've created I'll let it there can you imagine the relief fund we seeded it with a million dollars to start for our employees to really really need help there's a lot of people have savings that more not as worried about other shut down now it affects everyone over time so but we could do that and and then we are putting the chips that are given to the people for the Kerry out directly into the pond as well and we've also raised on go fund me about another hundred and eighty four thousand dollars it's actually been remarkable by the outpouring of gaskets on the gas call and ask how they could help the right we'd rather help have you I continue to help the sap certain and the people who really really need it right now but all those things add up you know we're not soliciting for money but it's certainly a wonderful that everyone does and we really appreciate all the gaps of been so generous as far people nobody has more restaurants in this area than lettuce entertain you and I am confused about something R. G. maybe you can clear it up I don't remember if I read this or somebody called us with this and they said all these delivery services of the grub hubs and so forth and so on actually you can help the restaurants a little more by or by ordering in calling them directly rather than the delivery service because the delivery service takes some of the restaurant profits out it is well it yeah and we really enjoy all of our delivery partners they've been wonderful people that help expand our business and get food to eat off all over the city for people who want it when they're not real close not convenient to do so but like everything else they make money by charging a commission for the work that they're doing and connecting gastos so they take it a percentage of the sale did process that order and deliberate they have to pay their delivery drivers as well and and those guys are certainly not doing as well as they probably weren't before either with a lot of restaurants being closed so it certainly is more beneficial to the restaurant when you do take out because all of that flows through to the restaurant of the people there but the the people who are driving for GrubHub levert probably thirty just as much so you know hi everyone is out it is not do and is not doing as well in this industry and as we mentioned here a few minutes to go a lot of these places also can provide wine or whiskey or rom or whatever you want to go with your food and is there any restriction on on that on alcohol the Illinois liquor commission really acted quick I give them a lot of credit they made a lot easier for you to sell package that package liquor with your food which was had some restrictions before but they they did some temporary global those restrictions and and everyone it looks like online at least not restaurants or or if you call and you can certainly take up a six pack of beer with your food or a bottle of wine and I think that's a really good deal we had it at that retail prices at least in our restaurants and most of the lettuce restaurants RJ is it situation where you you call ahead and then you just pull up to the curb and somebody brings the food out how is it working okay you'll be available for anyone to watch it so if you want to come in and a lot of the restaurant that we created little bodegas where you could buy look at what why we haven't other things to to shop and get some examples on your way out but if you want curbside service will be happy to run it out to you when they when they arrive to some checking in at all the doors of the places they're doing it and I take it the best place to go for information on all of the dozens of restaurants that you have what the special deals are and how everything works in the hours and so forth your website L. E. Y. E. dot com is that right yeah about thing and you know some of your favorite items might not be available right now a lot of the restaurants.

"I think there was a moment and I was kind of built over those that winning streak it's tough when you buy we can you know you know over a week off to try to get back into things before the break was grain or just kind of trying to get back to that and that's the goal and again as I said before the time off might have been the only thing to prevent Tampa Bay from continuing to solid play however every indication is the team will be focused again tonight and they're hoping to get two points Tyler Johnson said give credit to the stars but his team definitely needs to be better we need to talk over way too many times okay to them they they play good defense we kinda waited for us to turn it over and you know they went back the other way so for us to just go to keep puck possession keep control of it to not play Marcel yeah and mentally understand your assignments don't have the breakdowns physical you expect things to be a little sluggish especially coming off the break but mentally you want to know where you need to be making smart decisions and that still take some time and Pat Marin said afterwards that his team didn't play great but still got a point which was impressive it's the first thing about so I think which is sometimes your hand your hands in your your mind and your feet are cut all think there's some different as in all decisions again that we got our us we understand what it is you know it's it's good you know obviously the first came back is always top but we found a way to manage to get a point there as it does your point you know points down the stretch non be made a lot so we're gonna find ways just pulled off for game market feature I was going to get back to the tent really need him that's that's been on a really good stretch here and playing around with now getting points especially this time of year is a big deal this west coast trip is a tough one no doubt some munching some points together is huge and I had a senior NHL writer for any tell dot com Dan Rosen on my show earlier tonight on lighting power play live in I asked him if he felt like this lighting team was back to being one of the best in the league there is no complaining about what's going on with the lightning right now I mean they have been license out good and I know that the the the lost the other day in overtime read it to you again Dallas but even in acting you know they came back from a two to one deficit got the goalie for examples in the third period to force overtime before Jamie bags made a terrific play in overtime to win that game but they they have been very good they're teaching their plane the right way they struggled to figure out exactly what they wanted their identity to be this season and then I think that they just decided we have to be who we are but we have to be who we are responsible and I think that that's what you're seeing right now the goals are calming granted okay only two against Dallas like I said but prior to that you know they have the seven against Winnipeg they have that great rod and lost to the devils to end it it's been hit or miss a little bit in the next four games but I certainly believe of the lighting I think they they're moving in the right direction no question about it they are and they want to continue this good plate so nights for sure against the kings now with the trade deadline coming up a popular topic that comes up is what will the lightning do at that time I. S. Rosen the question earlier today I would like to see them if they're gonna add just go really just death for purposes guys who have experience playing in a third or fourth line particularly a fourth line role in the playoffs and and why that's important and I stress that because we see with the Boston Bruins fourth line was last year and with the St Louis blues fourth line was last year how bunch those guys met those teams I mean there were times were Oscar sun roof that Alex Steen Jack Stanford if he was on it I mean the person was there times they were the best line that the blues had going there were times in Boston where corral the you know and it Shari and Nordstrom were the best line for the Bruins and that's an area of weakness right now or I shouldn't say weakness that's not an area of strength right now for the Tampa Bay Lightning in and if they can sure that up with with some experience guys getting another guy and it's been a long playoff run who can play in that role who that guy is off the top of my head I can't tell you yep maybe awaiting sentence somebody like that maybe you know from the New Jersey Devils a guy in who can who can play a role that's going to help you out if you ten twelve minutes a night be a scoring threat and he's also been onsen playoff run so we understand what it's all about I think that that would be beneficial for the light that's Dan Rosen again from NHL dot com he joined me on lighting power play live earlier tonight that's on the.

think a single communist says made this much money many stolen by becoming dictators something like that what lebron James no longer King James for Hong Kong protestors now I love this this part of the story is is just a wonderful ride he he they decided to get the middle of this controversy of aid and NBA coach sent out a tweet expressing weeks ago now support for the Hong Kong democracy protesters objecting to the tyranny of Beijing's communist authoritarian regime and hobnail boots Bob father authoritarian rule and so the the coach the NBA coach he decided to step in big mistake I guess going to ruin his life it's going to cost millions of dollars because the NBA is busy sucking up to the communists because they have money that they make the Nike you know they have slaves make their shoes for them in China they're beaten with rubber hoses their children they have nor little fingers from from the arthritis and try to get the little laces through the little I let's and stuff and and suffering they worked fifteen hour days seven days a week and they're given gruel I I was reading about this stuff given cruelty that's like worse than that that they feed animals like pig slop is what they feed the slave fifteen hours a day seven days a week kids lot of them are thrown into these places because of their ethnicity or their religion Falcone gong and and Muslims and this is all fine with the NBA and with you know the billionaire lebron James because you know he's gotten rich off the slaves so to secure now he is a little phony social justice warrior and he's anti trump and you know he's Mister big when it comes to you know have an amount for all kinds of things are terrible United States is because we're real terrible country billionaire and a private jet how know screw the millions of slaves and China he's going to defend the slaving regime because he's getting fat rich off of it now how fat rich can you get I don't know but he doesn't know yet he still loves stacking up the cash and the the caches I would say the slavery he enjoys a sliver he's a greedy slaving capitalist and really I think that Bernie Sanders should accuse him of being a capitalist should come out and call on the name because you know they like to call each other names damn capitalists is one of the slurs that they years now the Hong Kong protestors are burning love lebron James jerseys now let's ask him to respond to that it probably say they they should bring in tanks and run them over he's Mister Tiananmen Square now he's like he's Tiananmen James forget about that King James thing also he should be taxed at a rate of ninety five percent like Bernie Sanders wants to do and whatever he's already stacked up that should be taxed an extremely high rate too that's a state tax and if you think you're going to pass that along to your kids well think again does he have kids ice in his got kids then I think again because you know these gonna have to take that away capitalist and should come a racist too because he obviously doesn't care about Chinese people suffering does he because he's a billionaire American private jet guy his name Nike loves slaves and I know Hey says I think people need to understand what a tweet or a statement can do to others he's concerned that his that his millions and millions of dollars from the slaves won't be rolling in over the transom and I believe nobody stopped and considered what what happened could have waited a week to send it yeah that's probably it lebron nuts probably yeah that's the that's it now he's Mister social justice warrior with kept Colin Kaepernick and all that good stuff right well I when I did some searching I I I search the library of Congress as it turns out they have a they have a website and you can go and you can learn stuff and in the eighteen hundred and sixty census in the United States of America there were according to the census three million nine hundred fifty two thousand eight hundred thirty eight people that were counted as slaves now that's the year that that actually came out in eighteen sixty one that's the year that the civil war started eighteen sixty one three point nine million slaves then I went to a great website the big global slavery index and I went to China to look on China and it was kind of amazing this symmetry was quite remarkable it turns out that according to this slavery group the global slavery index there are more than three point eight million people in China that are defined as slaves that's the same number as there were in eighteen sixty one in the United States America when the civil war started and lebron James is very upset that centuries ago there was a practice of buying and selling people it's truly a horrible thing in China the people that are used as slaves here's another one from the National Review China's slaves is the headline this is from two thousand fourteen this is when lebron first started making money hand over fist off of the slaves in China to make the Nike shoes they love the slaves I don't buy Nike stuff anymore either they have that you know because there what does the Betsy Ross thing Colin Kaepernick just just shove it all right so we got like that so the National Review has an amazing story about slaves in China and and there are different ways of counting.

"Edition of the show we're gonna barrels through the show but I have to break up our normal order just a bit because normally I would tell you what's on the blog in demand you to read it because it's fabulous I'm just saying but I have a guest right out of the chute because Alex Steen is excuse you know what I should about do this Alex off the air is it FC or Epstein another really matter but it's a start at sign perfect except sign is an energy theorists industrial policy pundit and author of the moral case for fall fossil fuels and he is coming to the university of Colorado boulder as part of what is going to be a very very good I think this would be an outstanding event it is a climate debate between Alex and Robert Kennedy junior the topic should the world radically restrict fossil fuels use to prevent climate change I'll talk of the show and thanks for making time happy to be here thanks for having first of all I think this is phenomenal you are going to be debating noted that lefty environmentalist Robert Kennedy junior and I don't normally say lefty environmentalists normally I'll just say environmentalists but he's a lefty environmentalists eight very well known in environmentalist circles and this is kind of a cool then how did you get sucked into this well it's it's it's sponsored by the free to be coalition I should give their address at the outset of people are interested in watching this discussion slash debate so it's free to be coalition dot com and I mean they're really interested in having debate on crucial controversial complex issues and this is one where there's a really clear difference of opinion and where I think that Robert Kennedy junior many many other people are very wrong and they're encouraging people to make decisions that will make the world a much worse so want to give my opinion and help steer the conversation in the right direction what what is your background how did you get to a place for you wrote a book called the moral case for fossil fuels so one of a long story basically I decided when I was twenty eight that I wanted to become a philosopher which is not normal decision or is that considered to be a very practical decision but I like for long because I actually to get the most practical field because it helps us think clearly about crucial controversial complex issues just like this one and about twelve years ago now I learned to facts about energy that I'd never really learned that just totally changed my perspective and so one is that for life to be really good and current Barnes be really good we need a low cost reliable energy I never really appreciated energy and the other one is that low cost reliable energy is really really hard to produce for billions of people and and when I started looking at the climate debate this made me think maybe we're discounting the benefits of also we need to look at both the benefits of fossil fuels and the side effects and I saw that most people were just talking about the side effects and they're often talking about them in a very hysterical way and I wanted a more fair or balanced view of the benefits person that side effect and that led me to become much more enthusiastic about also fuels than I ever expected to be calm an interesting point one we make on the show often is that every form of energy has a trade off I mean there's there's no form of energy energy production that does not have some kind of trade off but we don't seem to talk about the trade offs of renewable energy like we talk about the trade offs of of carbon based forms of energy and your point I think what people really start to think about it that way it does open up the conversation a little bit don't you think yeah I mean you need to be on the on the premise of justice framework of the conversation starting structure the conversation need to be on the premise that I'm going to look at the full impact of every decision which means of different technologies I'm gonna look at both the benefits and the side effect and and I've you indicated with face solar and wind people think that there's only only benefits the no side effects and and Kennedy and others will often use these terms like all clean energy verses dirty energy but every form Energias away from politics and certainly with solar and wind you have tons of issues with the mining that goes on for the raw materials and that indeed batteries and then there's also the fact that ignored wishes of these are completely dependent upon also fuels because they're on reliable fuel they need essentially a hundred percent back up at all time from reliable fuels and so that means whatever you're talking about solar and wind it's not really so we're going to so were and win plus Kohler solar and wind plus gas and the vast majority of energy that people are using even when they think they're using solar wind is fossil fuels or nuclear which interestingly Kennedy and many others oppose I shared recently a couple of conversations by Michael Shellenberger who was an environmental who is very vocal in supporting nuclear why isn't that more of a conversation you just brought it up he's talking about it do we just have to let another generation get away from the scary movies of the nineteen seventies and eighties before we can have a conversation about nuclear well it's interesting that you did you describe this scary movies because sometimes people think of it as scary reality but you're right and it's scary movies because in reality nuclear energy at the safest form of energy ever created if you look at the actual risk of death connected with generating power nuclear is by far the safest that anyone has ever devised for a whole bunch of interesting reasons and it's somewhat understandable if the naive public just if they didn't know anything might think it's standards but what's really interesting is that the environmental all leaders are against nuclear test flight it's amazing track record of safety and also it's by far the only source of energy that can generate low cost reliable energy on any kind of scale which for electricity not so much for transportation but we should electricity costs for millions and possibly billions of people and yet it's a because I think the the core of it is that people have this idea that nuclear energy is a natural they think it's somehow disturbing the natural order of things and many of these environmental thought leaders their focus is on being natural verses on being pro human and I think what's really the core difference that will come out in this discussion is that I believe that I am consistently pro human in my thinking and I believe that Kennedy Austin prioritizes this idea of an undisturbed planet over human life and my view is that we have to disturb so called the plan a lot to survive and flourish we need to transform the plan the plan is not in actually good place for us to live its decision and all the resources we need including it's pretty hard to get food in nature and it's a very dangerous place including the climate is very dangerous and so we need to transform a lot and that's why we need low cost reliable energy we low cost reliable energy to power machines to transform the planet to be a really good place to live in today's plan and the best place that there ever been for any human being to live and yet these people who are focused on an unchanged planet act like it's a horrible place and that's because they're focused in the human life it's on and I'm transplant devil's advocate for just a moment their argument is that being pro plan it is being pro human because when we destroy the earth they were not going to be able to live on this completely polluted disgusting horrible air place and so by protecting the planet they are in the bigger picture protecting people what you're after if the first acknowledge this is there such a thing is transforming the planet in a detrimental way and certainly local are you know you could mess up your own home you can create race that's toxic but in general one has to recognize that the natural planet completely inadequate for what I would call mass human flourishing so if you want billions of people to live to anything resembling their highest potential the plan it needs to be completely unnatural it needs to be dramatically changed and above all it needs to be changed in a way that can produce abundant food which without modern fossil fuels agriculture you definitely cannot produce modern food or billions of people and and secondarily you need to protect yourself against all the natural dangers including the actual climate change people act like we've destroyed our environment like it's so dangerous they often will talk about a climate emergency the truth is that we've never been safer from climate related to ensure is the number of people die storms as what you've called has never been lower and the real climate emergency was two hundred years ago one back throughout history life was always acquiring merging because we have to live with the actual climate with our machines powered by low cost reliable energy so though it's it's a mystical dogmatic review but the planet is naturally sufficient and safe and stable and in reality that the planet is naturally deflation and dangerous and dynamic and so what we can do things to harm our environment our overall impact has been incredibly positive and with more intelligent it can be even more positive in the future but if they act like two days when it was bad that's an anti human perspective don't let me play yeah that was fun I like that I I I was good very good I also feel like I'm just I'm like your warm up person right we're shadow boxing you're getting right yeah I appreciate I have one more for you though because the other part of this yeah I hear all the time is man made climate change is changing the climate at such a rapid rate the we're actually going to lose the entire islands to sea level rise if we don't do something to tackle that rise in temperature that we are causing due to man made climate change so we're actually putting all of these people at great risk if we don't do something how do you respond first of all let's talk about the man made climate change aspect of this because I know Robert Kennedy junior is a full one hundred time believers so how do you start with that I think there are a couple of of of pieces of contact that have to be recognized so one is that because fossil fuels are the only form of energy that can be low cost and reliable in the next several decades for billions of people that anything you do to restrict them is gonna harm billions of people including their ability to have an abundant so if somebody knowledge of that and then says okay I'm concerned about the level rises in this well why again nations somewhere like the Maldives that's okay we can talk about that but we usually happens is there a good nor the incredible benefits of fossil fuels to billions of people including people on those islands and they ignore the catastrophic consequences district so let's say you acknowledge that that next piece of context you need when you hear these claims about well we only have twelve years last etcetera etcetera is its impact it's imperative that we be aware of the track record of these claims of these do not not claims that any warming will occur but these doomsday claims that because people have these seeming justification for grabbing a huge amount of power very quickly.
