"Blindside tackle guess at. He's he's also super super quake the way the the way that his is is. Footwork is just impeccable. The way that the way that he can kind of change angles someone of his size playing on the offensive line should not move as well as he does. He is so athletic. People do not get through. I'd love i'd love to see and it could happen. That could make the playoffs. I i wanna see cave on tobacco coming up against because they are to kind of like immovable objects very very very tough like the one downside on him. If you want to call it is that he's is prime. Wait now you. You wouldn't want to get any bigger if louis c. Sixty as well. So he's probably a bit bigger in terms of kind of like this sort of the the. I don't want any big a. He's he's perfect as he is now. I could imagine a situation where the jets have the first overall pick. They're like we need someone to make sure that. Zach wilson can actually have the time to throw the ball. You know you need to whether you believe in zach wilson on ought to give him a chance. You've gotta make sure he's really really well protected. So if you've got a young quarterback and you are rebuilding than ever evanilson player. Who you would love to just have that kind of building block and if you look at that because he 'cause i understand it you will be a better place to expand on this but i understand that he played on on the right side of the line and then they switched to blindside tackle. If you investing a top ten top five pick in in a tackle. We talked about this a lot over the years. Having we that there is one of the reasons why it is more sensible. Play to take tackle. Eat the degrees of bust. I guess that even if they don't walk out as a left tackle assuming you'd have to and you have radical tobacco a blindside tackle that they can switch to. The right are even move down the line to god and you can get a serviceable eight. Ten year career out of a pilot data at a reasonable level. Now if you spent a top five overall pick that isn't ideal but it's better than a received e taken two years and in kiel harry style just isn't walk it out tool and and it's that much more of a an obvious bust with someone like neil coming into the pros. Dc that he will go to a team like the jets or a team that feels that they comfortable on the blindside tackle and play a few years on the other side. And is that okay to waste spending a pick on on that type of jude extra. Not that he didn't work out. So you moved him consciously bring him in a play on the other side of the line. I think that if you if you feel that your set left tackle then maybe you would use your draw collateral elsewhere rather than because you feel you can get better value on a right tackle somewhere else. Now he can play and has play. He's played at god. He's a freshman. He was a god. I think it was credited with not allowing a single sack in freshman season then. He went to right tackle and this year. He's doing left tackle now. The reason that movie morale isn't really anything that he's done. It's where they had plays leave. Oh players plays drafted so they wanted so when alex leatherwood. Alex leatherwood moved. They they put they put neil day instead. And you kind of have really. Haven't really miss the beat properly now. Alabama's alabama and. They're the best team in the country again. They look more fallible than they did. Lauch lost they were upset. Young real it was one of the best alabama teams of all time. And that's that's saying a lot now evans. Good good game against florida last week..

"I don't want to listen to you, because I try to hear every perspective I can, but that's one where I'm like, man, what are we doing here? How is anybody still a doubter of Lamar Jackson, especially after beating the chiefs on Sunday Night football? The argument is dead and I can't listen to that anymore. Okay, let's talk about the Raiders. The Las Vegas Raiders are off to a great start to the year. They're two O. They just beat the Steelers on the road in Pittsburgh 26 to 17, and by the way, the Raiders have now beat two teams in a row that were playoff teams last year. Last week they'd be the ravens a week one. They'd be Pittsburgh this week in week two. Now you have to acknowledge that the Raiders did catch a break. Star edge defender TJ watt left of the game early for Pittsburgh. He did not play the entire second half. But on the other, you know, the flip side of that is that even though Pittsburgh lost TJ watt. And then also later they lost offensive lineman Trey Turner who got kicked out of the game. It's not like a raider for playing a full strength either. They're running back Josh Jacobs did not play he's hurt. They didn't plow their guard rich incognito. Remember they lost their other guard Denzel good week one with an ACL tear. So it's not like the Raiders were at full strength playing against a full strength Pittsburgh team. Both people lost both teams at a player to get hurt and losing TJ wat a massive deal. Do not get me wrong. But I mean, let's just be clear, both teams are at a disadvantage in certain ways on Sunday. The Raiders found a way to win. Now before we talk about Derek Carr, I just got to say, I'm feeling really, really good about this raiders football team. There's a lot of young guys stepping up and making plays. I want to list a couple of them. Trayvon mullan had a nice interception he's a corner and year three of his career. There's another third year player, tight end foster Moreau. He had two big catches against Pittsburgh, one on a back shoulder seam ball and later he had a touchdown catch. Both of the Raiders tackles, by the way, Colton Miller and Alex leatherwood are former first round picks they're young. After the beginning of their career, receiver Brian Edwards should have had a touchdown. He's a stud. That guy mentioned Alex leather would actually have a holding call that got that called back. Henry ruggs, there are number 12 overall pick from last year. Second year player had a long 61 yard touchdown, and that's, by the way, why they drafted him was to make big plays. And he finished with hender rugs finished with 5 catches for a 113 yards and a touchdown. Then you have hunter renfrow who's an underrated slot receiver who does great work and is really good at getting yards after the catch. He had multiple key first downs for the Raiders against Pittsburgh. Now watching this game a couple things became very, very clear early on. Pittsburgh's mission was to shut down the Raiders star tight end, Darren Waller. And they kind of did that. Darren Waller had 5 catches for 65 yards, which by his standards is not an amazing football game. But the other thing that became very apparent, it was fun to watch about this game was that because their game plan focused so heavily on stopping taron Waller. It gave other players opportunities. And it was so cool to see the rest of the Raiders young roster step up and make plays and kind of rise to the occasion. Now, I want to talk about Derek Carr, the Raiders quarterback..

"Be one of the stories of the season for the raiders. Moving forward if he continues to develop yes. I'm glad you mentioned john We've talked enough about him when he's played bad and guess what he played. Good football game. He played a really good football game. Actually and i don't know what the statistics said or the or the grades or anything like that but but for my money he played a really good game in a tough situation but stood up to the moment. Max tries at a great game two sacks dominant pressures quarterback hits. He was he was dat performance. Right there is like. I'm not saying that this is what's going to happen. But that's you you start stacking games like that up and all of a sudden you're being talked about in the pro bowl you're being talked about in a lot of different ways so we'll see if he could build continue to build off that i'd be shocked if he did some bad news obviously The raiders paid a little bit of a price for that for that When denzel good Gone for the air. It looks like with a with a torn. Acl the raiders. Are gonna have to get some things figured out in the interior that or their offense of line. Richie incognito could come back And that would mitigate things. John simpson who played reasonably well last night. And richie incognito if not got to figure some things out. We'll figure out about gerald mccoy and can gakugei unique gakuen had a hamstring injury. General mccoy had a knee injury. Both players playing while Up until they're they're those injuries So gotta get that figured out dot. Casey hayward had a nice game Thought that trevor mortga had a few shaky moments but otherwise You know played. Well not cory. Littleton made a mistake on on. The run fit led to a touchdown but otherwise had a good solid football game. They tied Abram and Somebody else with ten. You know a game. High ten tackles are vital tacos ten so a lot to like about what the defense did a lot of names to talk about. A lot of players making plays So that's a good thing All at all a great night football without question for the fans a big win. That i think the raiders can build on You know moving forward. Zeta-jones jones gets that gets the long touchdown. Pass officially win it. A big moment for him. So a lot of these names sam that we've been writing about talking about during o. T. as in training cap showed up big. Yeah they certainly did. They certainly did and what they wanna get vinnie. All before we take a quick pittsburgh i thought you offensive. Line new offensive line rookie. Right tackle new center a lot of moving parts. John simpson young guard. You'll getting star. All things considered played pretty well. I mean air car had time to throw right now. They struggled but their running game never got going but their car. Dropback fifty six times and i think i saw the staff where he was pressured. Like on twenty twenty two twenty three percent of his backs. we're mark. Jackson was pressured on more than fifty percent and we thought baltimore was dominant offense of wine. Obviously we know that. The raiders were offense. Continue to be working progresses. These young guys continue to mature develop. Justin houston working. Alex leatherwood one play on the right side. Andre james cup penalties but all things considered the young offensive line held up against a very very good defense in and did what it had to do to give derek all the time he needed on the biggest stories of the game so i was really impressed. With how the unit gelled in its first game. Yeah and I was talking to Lincoln kennedy My radio partner. Avi obviously one of the better off of live in ever do it And what what what struck him was that. Alex leatherwood on james both finished strong. There are some moments where we're where they struggled but he felt like they got stronger during the game and he felt like some of the issues for alex early. We're just technique and fundamentals. That he feels like he'll get those squared away. But i'm with you all in all when your quarterback drops back fifty six times and there's three sacks early fifty nine if you got three sacks so he dropped back fifty. Nine times was sacked three times in fifty nine pass attempts. That's it. You don't want the sax but i mean at some point you got to figure that the other teams gonna sack when he dropped the ball when drop back that many times and especially a good defense like the baltimore ravens so by and large. I'm with you. I felt like the offensive line stood up and got better as the game went on. I think they need We'll we'll take a quick look ahead of pittsburgh you're going to have to run the ball against steelers i think It's not good. That josh jacobs looks to be in a physical state right now. One game into the season Kenyan drake look like Was banged up a little bit as well so that's something that is worth monitoring. But i think it's imperative. That the raiders. Get run game going. And and not have to throw the ball fifty six times. Conversely see where they are healthwise. You're on the defensive line playing a good quarterback like big band. But i'll tell you this if they could bring the same type of pass rush against big ben it. It'll be a good day for the raiders. The app is certainly will. The margin is as mobile quarterback has ever played the game with all due respect to big band of what he's accomplished. He's not that mobile anymore. So like you said if if they can speed him up a little bit. That's when we see big brand be mistake prone in the past now pittsburgh going into pittsburgh on a road. It's always a tough place to play. Pittsburgh has a really good defense as well. But i think the rate let me. The raiders moved the ball. They moved up despite not having any kind of run game to speak. Oh for the most part. The longest rush was marcus. Mariota thirty one yard run. And then the running backs combined jacobson drake at six forty five yards. Nothing to write home about obviously But the fact they were able to moved the ball against a good defense in those kind of in that situation where the ravens new for the most part they were passing their cars to one's up. Four hundred thirty five yards able to move the ball against pittsburgh team now taking care of the ball the road contending with what those are some things that are going to have to do based on what we saw in baltimore. I think baltimore is one of the better teams in the afc. And that's what. I thought going into the season definitely continue to win the afc north and make a run in the playoffs. And the raiders did what they had to do a very good baltimore team. That's it wouldn't shock me. They go on road and pittsburgh or run as well. Yep and that is a story for another day. We will for sure be back next week to talk about whatever happens on sunday in pittsburgh but At the very least at this point for the raiders they go in flying pretty high After the big win last night elitist stadium. Now they gotta put it behind them as quickly as possible. It's a short week. It's a good opponent is a long trip to pittsburgh. the they're. They're not in great shape physically. Why physical wise the raiders. But it's football and that's what you have to do in the nfl. There's hurdles that you're going to have to overcome played play a game to game week to week. You know the drill. But we're going to be here for you next monday at some point to talk about what happened on sunday against pittsburgh steelers. Hope you appreciate a us coming on board real quick We did a show yesterday but of course we weren't gonna leave you hanging out after what happened last night. Sam thanks so much. "A designed. Qb draw with the mark accident. Open-field is one of the best if not the best thing. The watching football led both teams with eighty six yards rushing that one for twenty eight that sets up this justin tucker as quashes any kicker maybe ever forty two seconds left forty seven yards away. And it's good to the ravens. Take a twenty seven. Twenty four lead quite fund was just beginning. Lamar the raiders would have that much time and they would get daniel colson and this rain fifty. Five yards away jackie's got it on real just canada leg. Pipes it through right down. The middle would kick bingoing tied at twenty seven fans going crazy worrying overtime. Third and fourth of the raiders. Here's your ballgame. Brian edwards behind the defense dominique. We think it's the game winner. Oh man is so much pressure from the ravens and then we thought it was over. I turned off my tv. I was ready to go to sleep. But then my side of getting text messages attorney back all right. Because he's just short of the goal line. So the raiders. Get it at the one. And then they're stuffed on first down and here comes second down the rookie. Alex leatherwood call out by data lineman. But this is when it gets worse avert your eyes. Dominico off the helmet and it's intersex. I love pinball turnover. Bet gonna work for. John didn't lavin anthony a with the pits of the ravens takeover and lamar's got a chance for the second. I'm the clinical fumble. Yeah again the martin trying to do too much bite. You gotta get credit to the raiders. Down there d. Line was on all night like ports lights. It was a problem for raiders for the ravens offense. Because this was last night. I wouldn't go easing the raiders. Get the ball into field goal range. They're going to send carlson back out there for the game winning kick but old everything they take delay of game penalty. So they're gonna run call and back off of their again second and fourteen. Thirty one with the offense on the field. Here's how it actually ends. Derek carr say jones behind. The modern humphries was great all day but he got picked by zone guy in that situation. The tough way to end the game for the raymond but in amazing way to open the season with fans in the stands for the raiders. Cards mussa four hundred thirty five yards. The raiders. cana. Thriller jon gruden how we feel like.

"The pig looks better and better and better at this at this juncture. So you know. Kudos to to make jon gruden so far what we see so far. It looks like all things considered contextualising the injuries of the other guys that they were considering at that position. Like alex leatherwood has been the right pitch and ease. I i'm with you. I think that that they have to be pleased with his development. So far he he's been physical. He knows what he's doing mobile. He moves around out there. He's able to get to the second level and you have to be impressed with what you've seen from him So far in the grove as the raiders. Rose the opener where he's really going to be tested against a very good baltimore disease. Yeah absolutely and i it. It'll be interesting to track. Alex or would you know the one thing that was was pointed out to me on almost from the get go on that You're doing some digging around within the raiders and Look sometimes a drastic may not look good To some people for various reasons from the raiders perspective. Alex lillard sit there need. They need a left tackle. They had just find a miller to a a long term extension. they're set at left tackle. They believed that alex leatherwood was the best right tax. Planning they believe that he profiled the best Right tackle in their system for what they wanna do. And sometimes that needs to be taken into account You know It's a great fit for what alex does well. And what. The raiders need And they'd be whatever his weaknesses are Quote unquote aren't so weak. That they that they can't be improved to two more than acceptable level so And he's already shows right now that i think he's a very good run blocker. That's pretty evident right now. There are some technical issues and fundamental issues that he's still working through In terms of the past action. I think just making the adjustment to the speed of the game at this level as josh jacobs pointed out. Look in the. Nfl you know or in college somebody. That might be fast. Or you have somebody that might be Sean on any given saturday that you're playing but in the nfl it's pretty much especially at a at the start. Starting level is they're both there pat and they're strong and you have to make an adjustment to that. And i think that alex would have all the traits percent one hundred percent and i think that's what we've seen so far is a very natural progression as you expect from young player throughout the course of the training camp throughout the course of the preseason and he's healthy he's available it feels like he's been enthusiasts about his opportunity to start on the right side for the raiders right away and And again putting putting all things in the place in the context. Here of the raiders. Have a guy. That's going to be barring injury. The rest of the campaign again. That's always a possibility. But he comes. He's coming to camp healthy each remain healthy. Throughout the course of stamp he's played well in preseason and east continues to look like a building block on what the for. What the raiders. Wanna do on offensive line Moving forward so they have to be encouraged by by his broken development. And like you said already good against the. Ron has room to develop it in the past. He's a rookie nights. Guys have to..

"Said. Competence be competent be productive and compliment. What the offense the offense did is going to do what they did. Last year and whatnot so yeah they're set up they're much much better spot and you could feel again. You could feel the enthusiasm like you said. Maybe it's just the day before camp. But i think there's there's real energy there because grew knows that that defense is going to be much much different not only with the personnel with the coaching staff. On the other end of that as well and you know to to kind of bottom line. What sam just eloquently said or the just eloquently said especially as it relates the gangway. If i'm reading between the lines Sam you're saying was issaquah is a difference maker or having show to be the difference back. You mentioned the sax you also mentioned the fumbles. What is destructor. And the raiders. Haven't had that difference making disruptor defensively especially on that defensive line for awhile now yes max. V was good in his rookie era about struggled last year. A little bit You know he could be online for a bounce back season himself. But the the debt down in and down out disruptive difference maker defensive lineman the writer's been lacking for a little while now and if he can be that guy as you said it changes everything. The entire dynamics on the on the defensive line and john also mentioned Salam thomas you mentioned quinton. Jefferson he mentioned ad darius Quick note on various filon. By the way i have to say. I don't want to throw the kid under the bus. But he looked a little heavy local heavy during ota's which is why it was encouraging when john pointed darius out for coming in at what to ninety something or so. I'm looking forward to seeing darius Tomorrow when we get a chance to see him. Big basically what happened is since. Ota's and training camp He he he. He got to work on losing some weight and getting in underweight or where the writers wanted him to be. And that's no thing especially and gruden pointing this out. Here's a guy that hadn't played football for two years and you know it's tough staying in shape or that kind of shape when you're big dude To begin with when you're not out there playing you can't get out there and be part of the The the world class Nutrition and weight room work and conditioning work that that. Nfl teams do It's it's it. And this is a difference between this year and last year. Sam last year darius filo it'd be showing for the first day on training camp and if he showed up in training camp the way he kind of looked at not as it would be a long process getting him into the. Jaeger gonna need them whereas this year they had. Ot as he was able to get back into a building See where he was physically understand where he needed to be physically. And it seems like He took advantage of that by coming. In where the writers wanted to be physically. Yeah absolutely and that you know based on what group said today. He wasn't the only one that came into shabby. Since i got his that everybody you know he feels pretty good about where everybody's at physically and ready to roll and that's again one of the benefits of having a full offseason program where you can kinda gauge are at you know maybe vice instruction and then get everybody ready for training camp. I wanna ask you there's many We know the defense should be a lot better this year. There's offense is going to look a little different. Based on what jon gruden had to say today touch on the offensive line and the receiving core. What are you most excited about. What he's most intrigued by when it comes to the offense this year and the changes that the raiders have made on that side of the ball. But i can't wait to see alex leather would You know I think we talked about. We may have talked about this on a on a recent podcast but You know i had lunch with lincoln kennedy a couple of weeks back in He had explained to me how leatherwood was on the radars. The raiders radar long before this draft process started. He was a guy that that that caught your eye specifically their their their offensive line coach. Tom cable when he was a freshman at alabama and in fact Tom called lincoln one of his good friends. And obviously one of the best offensive. Tackles at the raiders. ever had. Hey man keep an eye on this kid from alabama named leatherwood so that so from that point on lincoln has been a keen observer of of alex leatherwood and was kinda fretting during draft night. Worried that the raiders weren't going to be able to draft him so it wasn't like you know based on some of the public reaction you know. The raiders reached on alex leatherwood. What were they thinking. Well this was in the plans for quite some time. Us on the radar raiders radar for quite some time and listening to john. Talk about alex. Today i mean. I think he said i don't wanna i don't want to misquote john. But i think he said i love alex leather was did he say something. I mean yeah yeah it was. It was you know. And there's a lot to like about him Just watching him not as how big and physical and athletic he is at one thing that lincoln told me is super smart. You know smart as a whip. So that's gonna also really interested to seeing Alex leatherwood andrei james At center some that retooled offensive line But you know Aside from that obviously henry rugs right. So it's the fastest guy on the team. One of the fastest guys in the nfl guy. I think the raiders have to figure out a way to tap into much more than last year. It'll help if he stays healthy. That's a big thing that plagued him and damon are now. We didn't even talk about david. Our net by the way the secondary but it looks like you know he's he's still Somebody that the raiders that kylie of and in the mixed secondary Certainly but for sure. Henry ragas offensively. What about you. Fun fact about henry rugs ninety eight speed rating in madden second-fastest among the wide receivers only leave behind tyreek hill. So that speed is dangerous. Yeah you touched on harry. Reid's has gone wanna see above. I've talked about the office of line throughout the course of your off season that we know that everything every good offense starts and ends with offensive line so yes that's important in that group. Take shape but i think henry rugs is prime. Of course he is. He's prime for a much better Twenty twenty one twenty twenty air. We saw his effects. We know how that speed affected that offense of course last season even if it didn't necessarily reflect the production of course. The raiders want him to be more productive. But i thought one inch one issue. That jon gruden touchdown was that was presence of job brown. John guy that's been one of the best deep threats in the league says. He says he entered the league with the with the cardinals several years ago and one thousand yard seasons before buffalo and still could get deepen you know he talked about. Hey maybe ground can can continue to help him. Rugs refined some routes and learn how to run different routes and learn how to really tap into that speed the way he has throughout the course of his career so i think he's in line for an uptick in production in a much bigger role because without nelson aguilar whom grew inside they. They're gonna miss There's going to be an opportunity there to be that kind of number you know number one receiver number two option in the passing game behind air waller and it feels logical that henry rugs would help fill that void and step up and be ready to go and i roll yup absolutely and I think the raiders wide receiver group There's a lot to offer there's a lot to like Especially if henry Takes a necessary. Step forward brian edwards himself going into his second year can emerge as a as somebody that they can rely on. But you mentioned john brown and willie see. That's why you go out and get veteran players like like those two and it's not so much on a just in case the other guys don't work out basis. You just know what you're going to be able to get john brown You know what you're gonna be able to get in willie snead And it's just gonna make the whole room that much better So i think the wide receiver group Is is going to be fine. I think i think that's something that i don't think raider fans necessarily need to worry about. It could be fine to really really good. Especially if henry rugs emerges in year two It's weird to say that we're going to go in entire podcast without talking about the quarterback derek carr were pretty much going to do that Here dark talks Tomorrow i of actual practices that will hear what what Mister car has to say about the state of the writers in where he believes that they are. I know that he's super excited about this season and You know he feels like we talked about this on. On one of the previous podcast. He feels like the raiders. Were pretty darn close last year to being a playoff team at eleven when team I think that he is guardedly optimistic. to the point of trying to almost Tie his hands together so he doesn't get too too excited all like he's trying to suppress it a little bit but he i think he believes that. The raiders made the necessary moves to be an even better team. And he's he's champing at the ticket out there and see what it's all about and And to and to get him on the field In competition mode and see where it'll be nice to hear from dark tomorrow And then by the time. We reconvene sam next week. We're going to have basically a full week of practice yet to really chew on and talk about and some of these. How jon gruden feels about the secondary. How jon gruden feels about alex. Other words gangway. We're going to have our own thoughts on all of that Coming coming up next week when we reconvene but until then salmon twice at thank you for doing a great job that you do want to say thanks larry. "So eighteen for years next. Three hundred gruden five total one three and one five toll thing not not a car. So they're going to have to figure that out. There is gonna aaron rodgers. Talk is done for this year. He's going to be in green bay. Does it happen next year. We'll worry about that next year. One interesting thing though is that they're saying that now devante atoms may be more willing to sign a long term deal with the packers in the course of ladders a lot of hope and speculation. That he'll end up being raiders. Still a long way to go to that. But you know we'll see we'll keep you up 'cause that's what we do. We stay on top of things you know. I wrote something last week. Fred warn warner excuse. me number. Seventy pick in two thousand eighteen. Got a monster deal from the forty niners linebacker. He was picked five picks after brandon. Park of the raiders traded up to get brandon. Parker parker said that day i was in the media room that he thought that he go in the fifth round. Pj hallway cigarettes. Tuesday thing house will no longer raider. Parker may get cut so a lot of people. I write it and you know people. Love defending the raiders. And that's fine but let's look at track record to track. Rutgers are relevant and the raiders. Need linebacker stud linebacker. Yes a lot of people. Bypassed warner but jon gruden got used that as a as a miami. Wasn't there yet. it was two thousand. Eighteen came next year at some point. He's going to have to find his own. Fred warner and stopped making reaches so. I thought that was a fair story. So yeah so just something. He needs to find his advance. Think they're going to go the playoffs data poll seventy percent think. They're going to go to the playoffs. Hey we'll see we'll see. Come on mike mayock. You know we do here. We talk about the news and notes of the week and we want to make you the smartest raider fans in the nation. I gave you the tidbits that you can't always be around because you have a job. This is my job mayock worse. Gm in the nfl. I that's that's where a you know. A ranking off see. I'm so glad he's off. Season rankings are almost over I think nbc sports daily twenty six active returning. Gm's 'cause they're six. That are starting their damning graded work it you know. I don't know if he's the worst in the league. That might be a little harsh. But if he's gonna get clapped for being the worst. Gm we. Jon gruden has to share some of it because gruden's leading the shell right so they're either going to do it together. They're gonna fail together. That simple is at grund. Today's the entire coaching staff is vaccinated. only four or five players aren't jalen rashard. Put out a tweet last week. That suggested that he's not high on vaccine. I don't know if he is vaccinated but that he put you know the rules really time for players who are not vaccinated in derek carr told victory over the athletic. Hey look at you know. I can give you my opinion. But i'm not gonna push anybody to it so it sounds like derek carr is. There seems to be advantages for people were vaccinated so it seems like the car is one of the vaccinated players. I feel the same way in personal life. I'll tell you i'm vaccinated. That doesn't mean that. I'm gonna push anybody else it's all everybody's personal he hit for being vaccines say screw. You mind your own business in that person's rights divisive. They us needed vaccine. It's everybody's business but in the nfl world it's a lot easier to vaccinated. So that's his players are going to have to consider all draft catcher sign. Everybody signed everybody's. Good with the raiders. Which is nice. United sound from doing something tomorrow. On fifth year option guys. This is a big year for fairly neighbor jacobs. If he stays healthy he's gonna get the he's going to get the optional he might just get extended like miller did before the ox. The option of i think i think it's fifty fifty on farrow a neighbor..

"I believe going to be doing. Podcast as well checks things out after games. So we're excited. I mean it's a new season. The raiders revamped where revamped. Let's go let's go. One thing that really stood out to me was putin really pumped up rather were. He said he's after a great start. We love him. I have no doubt about him. So you know. here's the number seventeen. Pick a lot of people think he was a reach raiders. Thing he's gonna be a standout now. The guy new england to brown today he went on the. I are not the pup. But he's starting. The new season injured like he was a lot with the raiders. This is why he's not there right. So let's see leatherwood. It's very interesting. That gruden pointed him out. He talked about the secondary of post about that up right now on silver and black pride and you know he says hey upset for you. Know not worth the price of mission there He basically he said he's excited. He's fired up specs to be a strength of corby. Also you know pointing out. That should be because they have so much. Invested in high draft picks and these guys got it come through so i think he's going to be very frustrated if not and he and he but he's leases and being he knows that it's all set up so i found that to be interesting. Divined the elbows out for a couple of weeks. We've been knee issue we. That's the first time we heard about that. He's on the ppo. Advise johnson dairy stills out of a back probably early next week so that's not too serious so i'm just gonna go bouncing bounce around what's going on the last week and in go into today's stuff to wanna take a moment to mccook dolan to to family and friends players fellow coaches greg. Knapp napper madame. Before good guy you know you hear that. He's good guy while he was a good guy. You know i have people might personal. Have that knew that played softball with them thirty years ago and they still keep in touch with him and his family. So you know just a tragic accident Two time former raiders. Coach gregg nab. Rip our best wishes to his family. Go on a little bit here. But it's important for me to take a moment tip bernard burner which is going to be. The running backs. Coach is into quality control. Coach kids over for kirby wilson who retired Look this guy. Governor quality control coach. But he's he's he. He joined the team with gruden for years ago. Eighteen years coach. He was with gruden in tampa bay. So this guy. He's a he's right pick. I mean you never wanna make a change like that that late but if you do you're forced to at least bring somebody who's been in the program. The players are familiar with. Because you know the. I mean we're we're at training camp so the process began months ago. So that makes sense. You talk about that gesture. Bill associated press derek carr only had one touchdown pass with the lead last year. So the raiders got the lead and he only threw one touchdown pass. That's only happened twice three times in the last ten years in the nfl. Gordon associated press and one other time. It happened two thousand eighteen. Derek carr alab abuse eos car. I think it's mostly jon gruden. A he gets a little. You also going to keep your foot on the gas. I think there's something goons going to have to do more and if you say no it's car well look at again. Apn staff and cars. I four years in the nfl. He threw a total of eighteen. Touchdown passes with the lead and these were in grade teams..

"Welcome back to the takeaways edition of the biggest nation. Podcast tidy thing. Here with former raiders offensive. Tackle lincoln kennedy and also current hosts and author got a book coming out but yes in the huddle the book coming out. Tell us a little bit about the book. Lincoln all gutierrez's and i worked on this project for some time. It's been sort of a baby in the making if you will Been asked many a time to do something about my time. The raiders and just guide kinda shied away from it. Because i wanna share anybody's personal business as you know. Sometimes you look into these boats people expected all and then he was just telling your perspective so we we kind of geared it around and took the personal effect of what it means to be a writer and it's different for every guy we talk every person we talked it has a different meaning it special in its own way and we want to share that with the audience. I really do think we did a good job at telling the stories of what happened on my tenure with the raiders. How i got their time. They're playing for gruden Playing against gruden. I mean all those things like that. So i think we conquer that chats and i'm i'm open a fence feel the same when it comes out. Paul has been very reserved about letting any in the nuggets from the book. Getaway number two talk with him and media rooms but he's very tight lipped online. Any of the nuggets outside. I can't wait to see this book. I'm gonna make sure that. I get a copy. Pick it up I wanted to get into what you know. Best on the field offensive linemen and particularly. You know where. I'm going with this. Alex leatherwood What do you make of. The younger. That they brought in from alabama. I was really excited about the parents. I didn't think we're gonna get Might i actually thought he was gonna go to the chargers. Go ahead i think the twelfth or something like that but i remember cable cable. Alcott's mine coach talking with him a few years back any kind of put other on my radar. He told me about him. His plane in alabama. And i was one of the things that i love about. Alex is that i told him that when i told him this when i had a chance to talk to him. Interview is that. It looks like he enjoys beating people up. And that's that's what you want out of an offense alarm you know. I don't care about anything. I just want to beat people up. I just want to beat you up. I just want to beat everyone. That's wearing the same uniform as you up. i want. i want to do it and have fun doing it. And he was at versatile player who played every position on the awkward correspondence suffer center during his time in alabama and did it at a high level and for him to fall to our place fall to our pick without having a trade or have given anything up. I saw i thought it was honestly was a godsend. Because he's a day one starter in one of the biggest blemishes that this offense his head even success started working for the raiders was at right tackle. They found the you know they found her. Let's appalachian they took everything else. They had where you went ahead. Rob you hudson. Gave jackson everything at all live together but it was right tackle and i thought trent brown was going to answer that that calling but he didn't play enough to actually calling and so now you had to move on but you know what that means said.

"Before. Let you go. Just take me head to the 2022 draft in Vegas. Todd, Give me your top three. A few prospects in that draft. We're gonna be the first names off the board in 2022. He had to predict that right now. He's got a lot more names at the one guy. I keep going back to his tip adults. Morgan, I think he's gonna be a stud. I'm gonna do my mock draft tomorrow morning. I'm gonna wake up me to spend most of the day doing putting together my list and going looking forward Piper to starts usually on day two, but I wasn't with him one day to this year. So day three. He starts in on May. What's your list? What's your top 10? Who are you guys gonna be? What? You're Mark Jackson look like Well, can we get through 2021 Get the 2022 Nelson. The top names in 2022. Although the Jets I had cavon Stupido, who was number one coming out of high school, Spencer Rattler could be the top quarterback from Oklahoma, The Marvin Leo from Texas, and I'm a big defensive linemen go. We've all heard. They're extremely Junior's name forever. A corner from ls you Evan Deal, Right tackle Alabama Pride move The left tackle will take over for Alex Leatherwood. Jerry, in turn, are gonna move from right tackle. Left tackle, replaced Landon Young in Kentucky. Drake Jackson, a great pass rusher, potentially USC Christian Harris all around linebacker at Alabama. Until you're ill in the corner from Florida. Nick Benito, linebacker from Oklahoma, Sam Howard quarterback in North Carolina, just some of the names that will begin time attaches. Not too early. My one point over for 2022. Not too early for you. Um I'm interested to see what quarterback step up. I mean, every year, it zem like somebody knew, right? I mean, we We didn't know that Jack Wilson was going to be right this high and be the number two overall pick. Skyler Murray was gonna go play baseball a couple of few years ago, and he becomes the number one overall pick, you know, I mean, you can. Mayfield, Baker Mayfield. It was like Every single year. There's 123 quarterbacks that wind up going in the first round that when we're sitting here right now, we don't know about it. It's understandable because these guys are playing a different sport. They haven't been starter. Whatever the the situation, I mean, two guys they got trapped in the first round this year had 17 starts. Matt Jones had 17 starts in Alabama. So you're a year ago. This time he had just four starts and one of them was in the island boating through to pick sixes in that game, so and then the other guy is Trey Lancer had 17 starts is plenty of the FCS level. So you just don't want to say you never know, But there's it seems like every year we got a guy or two that that step up. There's a kid Tyler shocker was Oregon now is the Texas Tech Todd. And it was an interesting guy. Herm Edwards has always been talking up Shane Daniels at Arizona State. JT Daniel's with us. See now a Georgia thought your cove, It was Notre Dame now Boston College. Get Carson strong out of the bottle, so someone some quarterback like, Todd said, with Borough and Mack Jones, and that list somebody will emerge out of that group. But right now, it's great to see what we got. All these defensive players offensive tackles up at the top of the board, and they'll be interesting. I called the Rat learned like the river. Spencer Rattler Oklahoma always had. What is Lincoln? Riley Not had a quarterback up there or create a quarterback up near the top and special rapper from Oklahoma will be the next guy in line. Well, Mel Todd, I appreciate it, man. I hope you enjoy the pumpkin pie today. Dallas tonight at Friday night at nine o'clock. Johnny Carson. Your last look at Southfork. "Hotline. Um, also, we had NFL draft in the books will talk more about Aaron Rodgers drama Luca don such last night was incredible, 30. 20 and 12 in the Mavericks win 30 points 20 assists. I think it's been done by like Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson and Luca, not bad company to be in Pelican are Pacers beat the thunder by like 743 points last night, Katie Ah, big win for them as well. But, um, let's go back in and talk about the NFL draft, because obviously I think this is the biggest layup show that we could do all year long is because everybody I feel like their draft. This was the year that I never felt like there was this. Oh, my gosh. What is this team doing? Right? Even you said Alex Leatherwood with the Raiders felt like a little bit of a reach. Maybe that first round It kind of felt like this draft made sense for. Ah, whole hell of a lot of people. We were waiting to see what happened at number three. I think kind of. In retrospect, we still don't know what the hell will happen. It's Trade Lancet three. But you're, like, all right benefit of the doubt. Kyle Shanahan probably going to make this work, and he doesn't necessarily need to make a work overnight as well, too. I think that's one of the things I took away from it. Second thing I took away too. NFL's following the college football world, Katie in the fact of its offense, offense offense. You don't need to have a dominant defense. You need to have a good enough defense. If you want, at least make the playoffs now to win it. Is different. Go back and look at what the bucks did right. Still have to have some pressure. They did that against Patrick Mahomes. But I like what I saw out of how college football bridging the gap to the NFL your takeaways over the weekend. First and foremost was Wow. It's great to have a live event again and see Roger Goodell upon the stage fans out there cheering. Yes, they were in masks our ESPN talent everywhere on different sets. Hitting you with coverage on all different kinds of platforms. That was great to see. I liked seeing the pageant Regan a year ago. I think we just had to get it done, of course. And what was such a weird Landscape at that time, so that was first and foremost, I think the biggest takeaway was wow, This feels normal again, and I think it was really fun for a lot of these guys who were there on site who got drafted. You know, The biggest takeaway from me was where the draft started at Number three with the 40 Niners selecting Trey lands Now I don't know if he's gonna be an all pro quarterback one day or a bust, but they took a risk by moving up to number three. In a blockbuster trade a couple of weeks ago. So you knew that they were going to take a risk with whoever they chose at that spot, and they went with Trey Lance and to me. They clearly see something in him with so much upside and potential, and they feel like they can work with him to get him where he needs to go. And maybe Jimmy Garoppolo is just that filler for a year or two. Is that what you hope, do you? I mean, because it makes sense. Right? We go back and look at quick sparked. I had some time that that Jimmy Garoppolo stays with the 40 Niners, and this gives trade Lance An opportunity to grow into that role. I mean, that that that makes sense to me right now, because we want instant gratification, especially the top end of the draft. The 40 Niners are built to win right Damn now. They are, and I think that that's always the M O. For these teams who draft these quarterbacks, you know, right out of the gate is they want them to have a year to kind of get into the system. Tau learn to grow with whoever is the veteran QB already on the roster. Hopefully, Jimmy Garoppolo can foster great relationship with Trey Lance and help him along. I mean, we always use the Example of Patrick Mahomes and Alex Smith and Kansas City. People often forget that Patrick Mahomes sat a year and learned from Alex Smith learn the offense and when he started, he hit the ground running. It wasn't like he was thrown into the fire like we're going to see from Trevor Laurence, and we're gonna see from Zach Wilson up in New York. Wondered about Justin Fields, You know, where was he going to go and I'm fearful for him because I don't think he has the same luxury as some other quarterbacks in this draft class massage because he went to the Bears and bears feel like they're here has just become this abyss like they're the new Cleveland Brown since Baker Mayfield at least has the background at least graveyard of quarterbacks is what I kind of feel like and, yes, Was elated for Chicago Bears fans because it was such a big move to go up and get Justin Fields. Yes, it cost them. Ah, great deal, but to me it was worth it. I'm just fearful for Justin Field because I'm such a huge Justin Fields fan. I love everything about the way that he plays the game. The great that he shows just the resiliency. Obviously, when he took the shot to the ribs to come back out and put his team on his back like I love that kind of DNA's a in a player. I hope he has success in Chicago. And this isn't a scenario where we sea. We go back to 2017. Where Mitchell to Brisky, mind you They moved up to take him. They didn't have plans for him to go in and start immediately. They wanted him to take a year to get understand the game to understand the offense and then throw him in, and unfortunately, Glinton was Terrible right out of the gate. I think he misses the race. He came in the fourth or fifth game, and so he was kind of thrown to the fire, and it didn't work out..

"You're winners, so I'll definitely start with the Chicago Bears. I mean, it's uh, Matt, Naggy and Ryan Pace on life support. You don't think they're gonna make it through the night and all of a sudden they're back running four threes and four yard dash next day. Like how the hell this was the undertaker, wasn't it? How did this happen? And Justin Fields a guy look, I'm on how state football fan watching him hearing a lot of experts talk about him seeing how his name and his status were starting to become debased. Throughout the draft. If you will work as high on him, even though certain experts had him is a second rate quarterback, CNN go. Chicago's right. Yes. Matt Miller did perfect scenario. Patriots Bill Belichick didn't have to move. You have to move it all for Mac. Joan got their guy. They got their guy Bill right to their pocket guide. I can go play behind Cam. I don't know about him and cherish him competing. That was an interesting statement. But it is what is and then the Eagles. I looked about a Smith. You don't allow the Giants to have a guy like that as a giants, man. When I see when I saw many stool go off the board. I was alright. Devante Smith. He's our guy. We're gonna get him a perfect over the top. Take it over top every single time. I like to move by Howie Roseman trading up to get a guy like Devante Smith Smart. Right. Those are the winners. Now we move on to. There's always going to be a loser in this. So in the first round, Keyshawn who are your losers? You know I Raiders to start with. I have no idea what Jon Gruden in Mike Mayock did getting Alex Leatherwood. Out of Alabama.

"The Heisman Trophy winner? Devante Smith? What kind of pro? Do you think he's gonna make? Similar to Mack Jones in the sense that I think he's more dynamic. He's probably more NFL ready. He's a complete receiver. But with that lack of size and the stunt that he pulled the Senior Bowl. I don't think he's a good receiver for every single offense. I think if you're cold weather offense, you may shy away if you you know, you like to run the ball a lot. And you want your receivers to block downfield. A lot of the Baltimore Ravens, you may shy away from him. I think in Atlanta Falcons offense, the thousands who obviously don't need another issue, but that's sort of offense. Maybe even what the Miami Dolphins are trying to do. I think he'd be a very good fit. And the stunt that you're talking about. You're talking about him, refusing to be measured at the Senior Bowl. Not only just measured, but why did he even show up Because he didn't practice? You know, he took a roster spot and he went there and basically did nothing so not being measured was You know major blemish, but then he doesn't show up the practices, which I just thought was just really a bad public relations move. Yeah, we and we're for an Alabama player. I mean, like you think you know, coming on the next savings program. You'd be pretty buttoned down from that respect. Absolutely. Especially since you know his quarterback was there. You know, perform well. He had his left tackle there in Alex Leatherwood, who performed the offensive tackle. Brown was there and, you know, Granted, this was a different year in the sense that you didn't have. Hands. They're watching Senior bowl practices. But usually the Alabama players are the highlight of senior Well practices obviously is and reasons the event takes place in Alabama. But when he had all those other times even is running back a guy even the running back now Jay Harris, who measured in and then took a few reps here in there at practice. When he really didn't have to. It was just a bad move all around by the van to Smith. Hey, uh, Tony that we had several opt outs this year of guys that are viewed as his high draft picks. How did the How did the opt out? How did their decision to opt out or has it? Affected their draft stock either positively negatively or no effect at all. Well, I don't think it's going to affect anybody positively and only in the sense that these guys didn't get heart because they weren't on the field, but I think it depends on the player in the position. You can't broad brush it a guy like Penny Sewell of Oregon. I don't think it really affected him anyway. One shape or another. He's a terrific left tackle prospect. He's athletic. He was highly graded coming into the season, so I don't think a guy like that. Um, it's going to affect other guys will have to wait and see. My own personal point of view is guys like Michael Parsons of Penn State's celebs? Farley of the cornerback from Virginia Tech, I think is gonna have a negative effect on them. Parsons is a guy who's a great athlete. He's an explosive player, but his instincts or suspects Harley is a cornerback that showed flashed ability since his freshman season getting never put together one consistent year where we just basically dominated the opposition, and I think I've seen people talk about him as a top 15 pick. I don't agree with that on Lee because of the fact that he was very streaky at Virginia Tech, and I thought he really needed to play this season. Where the strength of this particular draft in the 1st and 2nd round Tony what? What positions of the positions of strength. Quarterback as we you spoke about earlier. I like the receiver class. I don't think it's his death at the lower end. But when you're talking about the first, you know 100 picks. I think it's very strong. I think it is a very strong offensive tackle class really strong, offensive tackle class. I think you know if you get caught. If you get past Kyle pitch is gonna be a very early selection. I think there is some good death at the at the tight end position and day two. Who are a few names that really helped themselves out at the senior Bowl of guys. Maybe you have any of you mentioned back Jones earlier. Who are some other guys that maybe were a little off the radar, but they've all of a sudden put themselves in the conversation to be in the mix, you know, moved up a day in the draft. Let's say Yeah, I think guys that were kind of off the radar outside the scouting community, Dwayne Eskridge. The smaller but explosive receiver out of western Michigan on Lee practice two days because he suffered a pectoral injury on day three but could not be stopped. I mean, he was separating from defenders every which way possible through his route, running with his speed down the field that was consistently 3 to 4 yards behind opponents. Any quote, everything thrown His direction. Obviously, the talk of the town has been Quinn miners, the small school guard from Wisconsin Whitewater who was absolutely dominant, I mean, basically had a alley market type of performance. Ali Market, the offensive lineman from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who's that was Super Bowl champion. Went to the senior ball about six years ago and destroyed everybody. That's what Quinn miners did pass rushing drills run blocking. I mean top level talent, which is burying them day after day. Think Richie Grant, the safety from Central Florida also elevated his play. You know, the senior ball is you sort of like the combine you go to the Senior Bowl with expectations. And if you beat those expectations, you come out of it with the higher draft grade than when you went in, and that's what Richard granted because people thought his ball skills were suspect, and he was intercepting past day after day in the middle of the field out on the flanks. Really showed himself to be a complete safety. Does the lack of a combine. Did that AMP up the importance of the Senior bowl for a lot of these guys? Absolutely no doubt about it. I mean, really, the senior Bowl except for the whole of all, which had some decent talent there, but overall was nothing compared to the Senior Bowl. When you really get down to it. The Senior Bowl was the on Lee major free draft event that's going to take place this year. The shrine game No combine We hope we get a bunch of pro days, although we don't know what that's going to look like, so absolutely. And I mean in some cases I mentioned Quinn miners. There were some guys who opted out of season You'd mention the opt out before it. Nico Collins and the receiver from Michigan and every Thomas, the cornerback from Michigan. It was the only chance that a lot of these guys are the first time that the guys have played football competitive football in more than a year, so absolutely was incredible importance on the Senior Bowl this year. "It's forest all the tight end who's very close to the first down, and now we have to check on the laundry down on the field. The flag, Tiki was 12 right away at the line of scrimmage. He's not on the line astern its five year penalty. Repeat third down, Alex Leatherwood Way heard the tale in the left tackle, not on the line of scrimmage and illegal formation penalty will nullify what would have been a first down day. Yeah, that's a tough mistake's for the senior from Pensacola left tackle Alex Leatherwood. He's the he's the anchor. Even though he's on the edge. He's the anchor of this offensive line. He's out there right now holding his hands up like, what are you talking about? Ref? I was up there way want me to do step off sides? It's it's a bad mistake because it's now third down and really long, TJ. Gotta be with in some range of the center, at least along the line. That's what they called running up wrong. 13 15 Jones takes the snap fires deep down the middle double coverage and it's incomplete. He was looking long down the middle of the field at that time and could not come up with the receiver Bolden, who had tried to break free but was double covered, and that'll bring up fourth down, And will it be a long field goal? It looks like it will be a front instead win for the Auburn defense. This is a big win, especially after that that first Inefficient first drive for all burn get backed up because of penalty on the kickoff return, and ultimately three plays in a punk ending with the sack. Tony Scott, I'll take it away for Auburn. He lies stove is back. Deeper. Receiver calls fair catch at the 10 yard line, and Auburn will take it. They're for their second possession. The game way have no score with Alabama and Auburn 11 23 to go in the opening quarter. We take a quick break. This isn't football on Compass media networks. Human picks off the rebound for Michigan State. Zesty drills it around the guy. Let's go on three. That guy makes the 30 my goodness. It's football. It's right here first and gold out of the four homes fakes a handoff rolling left. He's got plenty of room build five pilot eases touchdown packed with the whole get led straight ahead big hole because I've got to go with the five across town brother's head into the Angel's touch ground, Cowboys first and goal from the two formation.
