"It is my birthday tomorrow. 53. I will be 53 years old. How are you feeling? All 53 years. I'm because I'm taking my kids to camp. No pickleball this weekend. That's just going to get me just going to get me more ornery, screaming at people to get off my lawn. Because that just makes me an old man. Not what I said. What? I don't have my weekly pickleball. Thank you, Jay billis. Yesterday. Slagging on pickleball. It's just something we could beat J billis and pickleball. He's got the length. He's long, rich. The issue with pickleball for tall, big time problems. No, you're supposed to just hit it. Hit it in the kitchen. And you can step into the kitchen after it's bounced. You can get in there, but if you keep it low, low, it's low is death in pickleball if you put it high, you can just like this. Come right down. I mean, if you hit it high, it's a problem. Certainly if you try to lob it over to an issue. But if you go low, it's tough. It's tough. Rich, you know, certainly if a man of a certain age, we talked to you last week, we kind of touched on a pickleball story that you didn't hear, and then I remembered that we never got back around to it. So really quickly, in Pittsburgh, there was a story that a grandmother named Meg burckhardt had sent her daughter a picture. She went looking for a pickleball game in Pittsburgh, went up to a court, found a couple guys jumped in the game with him. She texts her daughter that me and the guy in the green shirt kicked the other two guys butts. And then she start wondering why people were asking for pictures. She's like, well, she just thought because she won the pickleball game. That's why they want the pictures. It turned out that the guy in the green shirt that was her teammate was minka Fitzpatrick. Hey. And the guys that she beat were Alex high Smith and TJ watt of the Steelers. Okay. And she had no problem. Make a Fitzpatrick is on our radar screen to join us soon. We're going to have a chat. So there are men a certain age. Aren't they too? Very young. So TJ watch playing pickleball? TJ what? Damn it. Alex hi Smith. Another big difference Patrick, is he playing pickleball? He and Meg one. And the text she sent to her daughter was so I rolled up to north park tonight to jump in a pickleball game, started playing with these guys, had no idea who they were. Last game the guy in the green shirt and the other two that everyone else wanted to take our photo. And so her daughter tweeted that out on June 11th to which TJ watt responded, Meg was serving the capital letters hate. We had trouble all day. I'm telling you, you get a certain serve hit you in pickleball. It's very difficult. It's very difficult. You would not last very long playing pickleball. So the winner was of a certain age. You wouldn't. It's a very, it's a significant workout. I think you would tap out. The court is very small. Okay, great. I've never played. I'll beat you. Great. Terrific. Let's do it. Let's see it. Let's do it. It's better doubles though. Just pickleball one on one. Let's do it. I do not want Mike as a partner in anything. Let's do it. Honestly can't do anything. And it was to kind of spell as harris at times nonetheless with that said until mcfarland comes back. I don't see any news being made on that depth chart at all in on top of that i will. Honestly i put money on it that when macfarlane returns in his healthy that it'll be balaj that goes then. He's not a drafted player. I think he was third or fourth round. Pick can't remember which they value. There's they're not gonna wanna just dump those players. That's what my that's a little bold prediction there. When mcfarland comes back it'll be balaj. The past few seasons as mike tomlin become complacent in as he now too comfortable in his position. I don't think so if you remember up until this past offseason i believe in mike tomlin was entering the final of his contract in that is rare for the steelers. They typically want their coaches locked up two years ahead of time and he got a three year extension. They put some faith in him. But i he was kinda feeling it a little bit. I don't think he's too comfortable. When you coach in pittsburgh the fan base tells you this if you're not winning super bowls you're not doing your job and he hasn't won the super bowl hasn't been to a super bowl in a long time so i think he he's feeling the heat i don't think he's complacent at all next question. "Went back to his position. He had played last season at right. Tackle dan moore junior fourth round. Pick rookie left tackle. He looked like a turnstile a couple of times against buffalo. If they're going to attack the steelers it's going to be on the edges. I just feel like that's where their weaknesses lie. You don't yes you can get pressure up the middle. I'm not saying that they're perfect in that area. But if the if there's a matchup issue it's going to be on the. It's going to be on the edge primarily against the rookie left tackle. But dan more improved a little bit in the second half but it. Yeah if you're looking for advantage there it is awesome. I'll tell you why hopefully yanni walkway stays healthy. Then it's ready to go because it was fun to watch on. the raiders. Finally have a pass rush after about three years of of just crying over coolmax so i'm excited to hear you say that it might be facing. Some weak tackles next week. I'm excited but yet sorry. This defense is better than last year's last year was a top three unit. When you add devon bush back who towards acl early in the season you bring in joe schober another good coverage Linebacker in the middle. You bring in melvin ingram Who is still wreaking havoc at his age. I i still can't believe you're just sitting there as a free agent. No one wanted him. Alex highsmith second-year pass rusher t. J. watt is a freak. We know that and he deserved every bit of that contract. He earned the arrived. Clun yes In any of guys. I came hayward who he just goes under the radar but he dominates. I mean you go go back. I don't want something fun. Watch go back and watch the steelers bills. Just go on the bills of the ball. Watch game hayward completely steamrolled offensive line. He was living in josh allens lab. It was fun to watch. But if you're going to attack this dealers events you have to get him in sub packages and you actually want to run the football and that's not easy for a lot of teams to do you have two very talented offensive line. That can you don't need those extra blocker so if you can go to four five wide forced the steelers into their dime. That's when they can be run on. They were run on in the waning minutes of the game against buffalo. I'm not really gonna count that as kind of garbage time but still in the past under teeth butler defensive coordinator. That's when the steelers have had issues getting those linebackers off the field. They bring in an extra defensive back they go light. You've if the steelers opponent. Whoever that is in this case the raiders if they can run the football in those packages that's how you slow down the steelers by controlling the clock keeping the defense on the field. On week one was any indication. The answer to your question about bud. Depre- what are they missing the answers not much. I mean between ingram and highsmith they. They were putting pressure on the quarterback. The end to pre was a good player. I'm not here to to say anything bad about him. But those two guys in having the the trio of what ingram in highsmith in they rotated them out so that everyone stayed fresh. It was something the steelers fans haven't seen. Because you always had watt depre- and even before that you had guys like lamar woodley and james harrison. Joey porter clark. You always had those two book ends. Never three now. They have three. This is unique. And mike tomlin on tuesday even said that you might even see a situation where all three around the field at the same time. That would be exciting as a steeler fan to see what they do in that package. We haven't seen it yet. But still melvin. Ingram has been in. Mike tomlin in training camp. Cottam a bully and he is. He was literally bullying the offensive line of the buffalo bills. Which isn't a bad line. By the way he's again at the steelers didn't blitz in buffalo. I think they've let's twice. And they were all over josh allen the entire game. They've got pressure with their front for like that. Was it but a you bring up players lost in my opinion the player that they missed. The nose isn't bud. Debris is mike help in the slot. Okay and mike hilton who went to cincinnati. He was a slide. Cornerback he was an unbelievable blitzer off the edge he knew how to time the blitz. That was my point throughout the offseason with people that were so doubt on the steelers. Like do you not realize how good this defense still is. But they lost do pre. He was down because my mom was was in town to go to a bridal shower that my wife took her to so. My dad was here to watch the game with me. The one time we flip over just in time on a fourth down play to see adam phelan catch a short pass and take it away for a touchdown against none other than my him. So i didn't see anything else in that game to know what kind of game he had i know but depre- had one tackle what had a really low. Pf score tennessee. Titans fans upset about that. But what i want to emphasize here is them. Being two thirds of the pass rushing trio for the pittsburgh steelers. So we know. Tj watt inflicted major damage on the buffalo bills offense but the fact that melvin ingram. Alex highsmith alex highsmith by the way who missed practice in the week was questionable. As of friday and then saturday days eight. He's not questionable anymore. He's going to play with a groin injury. So with highsmith ingram both healthy. They didn't have to being the steelers. They did not have to go out there and throw. Tj watt out there and say you're playing seventy five percent of the sam's no instead they said. Hey we can break this thing up let's say. Tj walkers break ingram and highsmith rin ingram as a break wotton highsmith highsmith needs a break wadden ingram. You see where. I'm going with this without ingram in highsmith who both had tremendous games. I thought both were held often. I can't that. Sounds like i'm being a little whiny baby but if you watch the game the steelers pass rushers were held so much in this game and they just didn't throw the flag and they threw a lot of flags on them too. Did leave injured at one. Point came back. Into the game the touchdown catch what a catch. The ball's tipped by the buffalo bills defensive back who's guarding him. I'm not sure who it was. He ends up not only just coming down with but getting to feed in the end zone. A tremendous touchdown. It was the play that they needed was obvious at times that rothlisberger was not going to be able to just throw the team on his back. Like we've seen him do so many times before in his career. He's gonna need some help. And in this case that was the play that rothlisberger needed you saw chase. Clay will have one of those plays later on jujubes misused. Read a couple of those plays. Those are the same injury statuses for those two guys from Wednesday when they did practice T J What is now the highest paid defensive player in the national football. They got a four year $112 million extension. Jeremy 8 50 or somewhere in the nine o'clock hour. We must talk about T J Watt and how heroic he is, Um, so he got the big extension should be playing on Sunday against the bills. One injury to monitor for the Steelers. It's Alex Highsmith outside linebacker. He did not practice yesterday. The Ravens getting hit hard by injuries again. Running back Gus Edwards and cornerback Marcus Peters both went down in practice yesterday. And both suffered season ending injuries. The Yankees lost the Jays. "He would always talk about. We need to own him in and what he mentioned was it. As the edge pass rushers would come in in rush the passer. They couldn't be pushed up the ark which will give michael vick and escape route. They wanna keep him in the pocket force him to deliver that pocket lead pass in the pocket stepping into the pocket. And that's where hopefully back in the day when dick lebeau is there. You would have players with his chris. Hoke whether it was. Casey hampton aaron smith brett. Kiesel pushing that pocket into the quarterback. They have nowhere to go. Josh allen is deceptively athletic and he will and he can run the football. The steelers cannot just go hog wild pin their ears back rush the passer get to the point where he has an easy escape route and then all of a sudden boom. He's gone ten. Fifteen twenty are gain. He's going out of bounds or sliding in. They moved the change. Those plays are deflating when you defend the play perfectly in the secondary. When you have a good pass rush. But you're just not disciplined enough cone josh allen into the pocket. Get after him they. I still believe this. Buffalo bills offensive line is not that great they can be had and i feel like the pittsburgh steelers pass rush which has led the nfl in. The last. Three seasons is certainly up to the task. I don't care if tj tj watt hasn't played or practice in team team drills this season. 'cause i don't think he's going to be playing one hundred percent of the snaps. They never do. But i think that if anything you get. Melvin ingram in there you get alex highsmith in there and you mix the three up. Data will only help the steelers pass. Rush guaranteed now. Alex smith has a little bit of a groin. He was limited on wednesday. That's something to keep an eye on. But still melvin ingram assigned for reason. And i think he's gonna have a maybe not a memorable performance because i'm not sure if he's going to have that many snaps but still i think he's gonna make a difference. We'll put it that way. Both in the run game and his pass rusher so there you have it folks on offense my factors for the steelers to beat the bills. "I'm filling in for jeff hartman. Who was on vacation this week. He's still doing a lot of stuff here it'd be. Tse with other podcasts and articles and everything else. But i'm just trying to take as much off of this plate right now while while he's spending some time with his family so you've got me again today and we have a very interesting injury report because there's good news and there's bad news. Luckily there's more good news than bad news. But we'll we'll see as we get there. You want players when they end up on the injury report to be trending in the right direction. If someone doesn't participate in practice on wednesday you're hoping that as the week goes on their participation ramps up a little bit for example. They didn't participate a wednesday. You'd like to see them at least be limited on thursday and hopefully be a fool. Go on friday to be ready to play on sunday. It's when they go in the opposite direction when it's concerning well. The steelers had two players that were on the injury report from yesterday that we're moving in the right direction. The first one is rookie center. Kendrick green he was limited in practice yesterday with a thumb injury he was a full participant today. So hopefully that means all systems are go for kendra green the other one is tyson. Allah wallow who did not practice on wednesday with an elbow injury but he was a full participant on thursday. So as i said in the article on. Tse that you know with steph onto it already on the are being down another. Starting defensive lineman would not be ideal but it looks as if there's no setbacks for everything all allah was trending in the right direction to play on sunday. The player that went in the wrong direction unfortunately is outside linebacker. Alex highsmith with a groin injury. He was limited on wednesday and now he did not practice on thursday. This is concerning the keys. Butler was asked about highsmith after practice. He said he's not really sure. He's hopeful that he can go all those things. I mean if not the other problem is with. Tj watt coming back practicing fully for the first time this season coach butler even said about you know maybe trying to keep the snaps down a little bit more than normal for for tj. But if alex is miss out then that's then you you're getting into hold other situation. Yes it's great that the steelers. Also have melvin ingram. The third. the other problem is after that it's jamir jones and that's all so that's the rotation for the steelers. If highsmith isn't able to go on sunday it'll all come down to friday. It really ultimately will come down to friday with alex smith and his participation will get. We'll get how much he participates and a game status on friday to know what maybe we could expect a steeler fans. Going into sunday's game there was no new players on the list which was a fantastic thing for the steelers. So no new injury. Same three players. That's exactly how it went now. Let's look at the buffalo bills now. I'll be honest with you. There's not a lot to look at it. It's funny because i i already saw a bills. But what happens when you give it injure injury report. Would you didn't practice. It's all an estimation so for the bills. This is an estimate of what they expected on thursday. Had they practiced it was the same five players four of which they had the same status. And that is. I'm gonna try to find the right pronunciation of the name since yesterday. But i didn't. I'm gonna butchered again. The only player who was listed is still wouldn't have been able to participate is defensive. Tackle star motoo leli. I don't know if that's right or not. I'm going to go with it with a calf injury. The change was cornerback. Taryn johnson who was limited with a hand injury on wednesday. He was listed as they estimate he would have been a full participant on thursday wide receiver. Manual sanders was was listed as being limited again with a foot if they would have practiced and then the two participants were full on. Wednesday obviously would have been expected to be full on thursday and that was wide receiver isiah mckenzie with a shoulder and defensive tackle harrison phillips with a knee. So what's again this is kind of thursday's the trend today. That's what you try to find which way a player is trending as i explained with the steelers players you know. Two of them are training in the right direction. One is turning in the wrong direction friday. That's that's the day that really tells us where we're going it's did you. Were the players able to get to be able to practice to get prepared. And what is their ultimate game status. So we'll be back tomorrow with another injury report so make sure you're.

"Come back within a couple of weeks. So of course not having steph onto it hurts but the steelers defensive line still is one of the deepest and strongest leaking cam hayward enticed now. While we're still going to be there still going to be the starters. So i'm not too worried. Pass them the steelers coming into this game. They have a wealth of newtown. That's how they did not have in twenty twenty You think of the players. The steelers lost In this offseason like along the offensive line alejandro villanueva matt filer. Markey's pouncey david decastro yet. There was some big names that The steelers had to part with. But those guys were training on the way down steals your replace them with guys like kevin dotson who is one of those up and coming offense lineman the nfl kendra. Green is a center of the steelers. Were very high on well before the draft took place and then trae turner. The offense line is still has a ton of question marks but if we look at this entire roster as a whole the steelers really have improved their depth and did an outstanding job drafting. This team is a stronger officer than it was last year for being honest with ourselves. You look into quarterback group that's about the same. Of course the backup level players are a little bit better but ben rothlisberger is not coming off an injury. The tight ends zad pat farm youth. And eric hebron's appears to be one hundred percent not nursing an ankle injury like he was last year the receivers or another. You're older more chemistry with big ben. Still of course. Like i mentioned the o. Line scott those question marks. The defensive line is still pretty much exactly the same minus stefan too because of his injury. The edge room. Yes the steelers. Lost bud dupree. Who's coming off an acl. But alex highsmith looks like he's prime for a massive step forward and melvin ingram.

"Game against cleveland roberts lane on wide receiver. But there were other times. Alex highsmith did a beautiful job. Indeed coverage on wide receivers multiple times when he would get pulled out of his. You know outside linebacker role into that slot because the steelers warning nickel bundu pre did it. He was actually very good at it. Highsmith was pretty got it and sometimes three four. The steelers would choose to cover that receiver in the slot with terrell edmonds if they wanted the front seven to all be dedicated in the box and they were gonna do something like that. They could put terrell edmonds as the man on the slot receiver. And then either you know have a linebacker drop into kind of a robber zone or or have sent a blitz so it wasn't always in the nickel that you would defend that and also in the dime you have usually have multiple slot defenders cameron sutton was was one of them. That's that's that's some of the exceptions most of the time. The most common offense in the nfl is now eleven personnel which means one tied in one running back. And that means you have three wide receivers and then you're gonna have a slot receiver because just the nature of how it is your most likely you'll have a slot receiver we're gonna we're gonna use that for our first half of the show went through. You know y why. The nickel is used the importance of the nickelback. I really wanted to get in why. The nickelback is kind of a linebacker role and has to be able to defend the rhine and the steelers really get a lot of benefit from players who can also blitz out of that nickelback situation so when we get to take a break when we come back. We're going to talk about the players. The steelers played in the slot in the fourth. Preseason game and as well as kind of go over what. I think will happen in the different options. The steelers have to defend the slot because that is the position on the defenses. That is probably at this moment. I think we'll see. I mean the garoppolo thing is fascinating because i i agree with you like i do. Think the niners in their heart of hearts. Want to start jimmy garoppolo in two thousand twenty one but you go through history jimmy garoppolo as the starter for his team in september week one four times. He's made it out of september without getting injured once That's scary. And i think the the worst case scenario for the niners that they keep jimmy garoppolo around they pay him the twenty five million dollars and he starts to games go to trae lance anyway Not as maybe the most likely outcome given his history so This very fast in a game of chicken to me Happening with an irish. But i think you made a really good point when it comes to. Who's getting wraps and what that means and High i would expect to me garoppolo at this point to be the week. One starter for the san francisco. Forty niners unless they get crazy train offer. Maybe that'll happen. I don't know but a lot to happen. Acl surgery last season. He's coming back so you have your left. Tackle left guard kevin dots and it doesn't look like he's going to play unless he gets back on the field soon Brazil so left guard might be like reshad coward. They'll price swing him over maybe. Bj finney looks like kendrick. Green is gonna continue to run with the ones until he proved. He proves he can't do it right. Guard trae turner. Who was honorable mentioned. Last week on my list. He should be back he should be playing at least a little bit. And then right. Tackle zach banner. This is going to give the fan base a little bit of a better idea as to what the offensive line is going to look like and what they can do. So i'm excited for that last player on offense as a player. I actually listened last week. So i kind of broke my own rule and that's pat youth. He didn't play. So i'm going to put them on there again. I really wanna see pat farm. You can do acetate. And he's been making ridiculous catches all camp. Let's see what he can do if if if he is an i forget the player that said it. Someone said they remind him. He reminds him of travis. I just want to see what he can do. We not j. watt unlikely to play for obvious reasons in case you were asleep at the beginning of the podcast. Go back and listen to the beginning. But melvin ingram. I really feel like he is. He's going to get the reps to get himself situated in pittsburgh. There's not much this guy has to learn he. He probably already grasped the the the scheme he just has to learn the verbiage. He has to know what to say in certain situations hill. Be fine but i want to watch him. I'm excited and then i also defense and this is based solely on the performance last week. Is alex highsmith. I want to see alex. Highsmith do what he did last week. Again tell me show me. "Me before the nfl draft that. He's an even better devon white so mike. Parsons is a guy who really stood out to me on thursday night game and you know for the steelers to players really rose above the rest number one. It's chase klay pool. And i love this kid. You watch him last year and he has all of the tools to be a truly dominant number one wide receiver. First of all the kids six foot. Four two hundred forty pounds. He has great hands. He has great speed. He has explosiveness in the open field and he busts out last night and he leads sealers in receptions and receiving yards and just has a dominant first game of the preseason with three catches for sixty two yards. Look at that receiving core and there are so many questions about ben rothlisberger on what he is at the stage of his career. Especially after how last season finished. But you'll get that receiving core and you have deontay. Johnson are true number one wide receiver and the premier player on that steelers. Offense juju smith schuster. You have chased clay poor. Just an embarrassment of riches for the pittsburgh steelers at the wide receiver position that if rothlisberger is half the quarterback that he has been and you have nagae harris and you have pat fryer m- youth as security blanket to kind of take some of that pressure off. You know. this is an offense that while you talk about pittsburgh steeler. Football has always historically been about physical grounded pound football. You look at them this year with all that talent on the perimeter and at the receiver spots they can really put on a show through the air and defensively for the steelers. Was alex highsmith. You'll get the dallas cowboys offensive line and i know that there are a little bit banged up. Lay collins is hurt. Tyron smith has had limited action and it was kind of a scam. Wouldn't crew of that cowboys offensive line when healthy is one of the best in the league but highsmith was downright dominant. Last night he made the cowboys offense. Turnstiles i mean you look at his numbers. He had the three total tackles. He had one sack two tackles for loss. He was always around. the football. high. Smith is a guy that i'm going to be watching and really can't wait to see him take steps in his development in year two but another guy. I'm going to be watching this year. I always do and what i want. To tell. steeler fans is kind of the way i started this show. I understand that. It's the first action of the pittsburgh steelers in two thousand twenty one. It was a nationally televised game. It was against the dallas cowboys. Don't tell me it doesn't mean anything. We all know that means something. Don't draw too much into this game especially when you're talking about i mean think about this okay. Think about on offense offense. You're looking at no ben rothlisberger. Four out of five players on the offensive line or not projected starters. The wide receiving core of juju smith schuster chase klay played. They didn't play that much. No ebro farm youth. It was just the bare bones. Okay just the bare bones on defense the only projected starters you had roberts bullying you had camp sutton and you would probably say that alex highsmith would be a starter as well so when everyone wants to jump to conclusions about this game about these performances and i know that i just ran off all the winners and losers nowadays is about when i when i think about that. I want to say that you know. When i mentioned a winner or i mentioned a loser. It is based solely on their performance in this particular game and i tried to keep it from a very individual tried to keep an individual mindset. Is i tried. Not to generalize the entire defense based on the fact that keith butler doesn't have tj watt out there. he didn't have steph onto it cam hayward tyson malulu devon bush mink of his patrick tyrrell admins joe haden just basically named the entire defense people. So we're all excited clearly. Steeler nation is excited. Our website binds. Your current dot. Com is is literally blowing today. All right. let's get right into things. Everyone is excited. I can tell that steeler nation is starting to kind of wake up again as my writer die crew on twitter. I put out the tweet. And i said okay mailbag time. He wants to have some questions. And to my. Gosh there's a lot. Everyone wants to talk about. Melvin ingram and rightfully so in case. You didn't see monday. The steelers were reportedly signing. Melvin ingram on tuesday. That became official. They release two players. They also brought in a tackle formerly of the indianapolis colts instead of bolstering their lineup. A little bit melvin. Ingram is a player that a lot of people are curious about and they asked the question which is how do you think he fits. And the first thing. I want to make sure it's very clear. This is not in any way. Shape or form. Melvin ingram being placed on the steelers roster is not in any way shape or form a demotion for alex highsmith. Not at all just like last season. When alex smith was drafted it was not dude as a demotion for bud to free. This is not a case of you know when the steelers strategies misused during yet sammie coats and martinez frying kind of going back and forth about twitter was not the case. It's not the case now. Either alex highsmith's going into his second year in the national football league in no way shape performance anymore gonna say he's a veteran he's an entrenched starter. He is going to be learning. As the season progresses everyone with a brain in between their ears should know this. And it's it's going to be smart that it is smart that the steelers go went out in found valuable leadership and experience at a position of need. The pittsburgh steelers the two positions. I think most would agree with us. The two positions especially on the defensive side of the football that are glaring when it comes to so thin in the in the depths department. It's outside linebacker and then quarterback but it's different quarterback you have depth is just unproven death in other words. You have occur brown undrafted rookie. You have james beard. We don't know a ton about him based on the fact that he hasn't played that much and then you have some other players justin lane. Even they have depth. But it's unproven death on on the outside linebacker depth chart. That's a different story altogether on the outside linebacker depth chart you have nothing. The coverage is pretty bare. You have obviously t. J. watt alex smith. You had cassius. Marsh in quincy rochet six draft pick from temple slash miami the u. That's it that was it. It wasn't even a potential thing. Yeah quincy rochet. You're like okay. Maybe he got was sixth round draft. Pick for a reason. He's a six round draft. Pick if anyone thought that he was worth more or worthy of a higher slot they would have drafted him. They didn't six round draft pick into the dealer. Said we need to make a move. They released dave decastro. They free up cap space. And you bring in a player who i again. I'm not claiming to be an expert. Here but melvin. Ingram from all accounts that i've read and people that i trust is that he could be the perfect number three tass rusher for the steelers. Let me give you a couple of reasons. Why number one. This is something that i like. How hot is that. He can play both sides. He is not a player that has to always rush from the right or always rushing the left he can play those sides. That is huge. Checkmark number one. Another thing is that melvin. Ingram is experience employs. This guy he's not thinking about someone. Like cassius marsh or you think about ola finian pass. Where did they struggle. They struggled in setting the edge. They just weren't big enough. They just aren't strong enough. That's not melvin ingram. This guy can play the run. He can set the edge. He knows exactly what's asked of him. He will be just finding that department. Kenny rush the passer. Absolutely absolutely in jeffrey benedict. Who does more about football than ideal he talked about his bullrushes is number one..

"Throw the ball too much and the pittsburgh steelers will one hundred percent be fine flipping over to the defensive side and one young player for the pittsburgh steelers that also holds. A lot of the keys is one alex highsmith. We know the steelers defense. They're supposed to take a bit of a step back. Losing bud depre- the double digit sack. Man from twenty nine thousand nine. He looked like he was well on his way to doing. Just that in twenty twenty before tearing his acl in that unfortunate accident which really can derail the steelers season at after that the steelers greatly struggled. Alex highsmith was fine in some limited playing time. But of course we know. He's battling an ankle injury as well. Alex highsmith however already looks like he's on a better upward trajectory. Then bud duprey was entering his second year of his career. High smith is a great pass rusher and he's one hundred percent bought in if you looked at pictures of him and videos of him during these offseason workouts with the steelers. The dude is clearly jacked. He's coming to camp larger than he was last year. He looks more defined than he was. He is in peak shape because of it because it just necessarily being heavier and stronger. He'll be better against the run. Alex highsmith if he can answer the questions and develop faster than buddah. Pre did the steelers defense. Shouldn't miss a beat and that goes without mentioning outsize. Miss should never face a double team all year. Long teaching wat- on the other side is going to command. A heck of a lot of attention steph onto it and cam. He are as well. Even tyson allahu allahu when he's out on the field. He deserves at least a chip. That's how good the front seven is for the pittsburgh. Steelers these guys. They're all deserving of being double teamed. and that's kind of the hardest question. Defensive coordinator you just have to ask themselves each and every week. Who are redoubling today. Who we're going to let try to beat us. We know they're not gonna let. Tgi what do that and we know. They're certainly going to do their best to not let steph onto it or cam. Haywar do it. Basically they're going to decide between two and hayward who they're gonna leave single teams all game and then alex highsmith just gets his free one on one rush. Alex smith could absolutely exploded onto the scene. Because of not only has he completely changed his body for the better but he is in one of the cushy jobs there is for an edge rusher in the nfl. He should be excited. He should pin his ears. Back this is going to be very berry fun. Season football for alex highsmith. And if i was an edge rusher in the nfl. I would be extremely jealous of him taking that role he is going to be a stud there and really. I wouldn't be surprised if he was close to as good as bud. Duprey was at least in the pass rush game a year ago. We know how good bud duprey wasn't a rushing attacks so i'm not going to put that level of standard on them but he could be pretty darn good and it is exciting. Another thing. I want to point to as well that is kind of going under the radar is how good the pittsburgh steelers. Special teams are going to be. A lot of people are really talking about this. And i i kinda get it. It's special teams. But it's still a pretty big facet of this game. We know jordan bury the incumbent punter. He usually starts to your pretty well before falling off the rails as the weather gets colder he. he'll have as usual shank punt all of a sudden the steelers like they're on their own forty yard lines all right. This team isn't going to do anything because we're gonna punt the ball away. There's only minute left. There's no way they're going to go ninety yards and score touchdown but then joined bury shanks went off the side of his foot and all of a sudden they just have to go twenty yards and kick a field goal and all of a sudden. We're going over time now. The pittsburgh steelers have a legitimate punning prospect and prodigy and presley harbin. The third him alone changes this team because if the steelers can have the production that the ravens get out of sam cooke holy smokes this defense if they're just playing with nine hundred cushions behind them each and every game that is massive and something. Steelers have greatly missed for a very long time. They need a great punter and they might actually have that guy now after him. Look how many guys the steelers added as gunners and special teams aces throat. The last couple of years yes or no. They lost jordan dangerfield but they backed that up with adding a ton of talent mouse. Killebrew is one of the best special teamers in the entire nfl. It's one of those spots that isn't talked about because once again it's special teams but he is going to replace dangerfield seamlessly we know. Dirk watt is one of the best special teams as well. The steelers added him a year ago. And now you look at the steelers draft picks quincy rochet. He's going to be a special teamer buddy johnson. He's going to be a special teamer. Marcus allen of course. He's been on the team for a couple years now. But he's added some mass. He looked pretty big. He is also going to be a special teamer. You run up and down the defensive lineup. And if they're not starters they have really good abilities to be good special. Teamers look at safeties. Trae norwood's going to be asked to do that. Antoine brooks legitimate starting capable players. Maybe not the best of the best starters but at the very least starting capable players will be on special teams. This unit is going to hunt guys down that he doesn't even mention the guys on offense that offer some stuff in the special teams game. Do you guys remember. Kevin reiter a year ago when he beat out. Zack gentry for some playing time. He was a special teams demon. I remember a couple hits. He absolutely laid out returners after him. Cassius marsh another late season edition. I remember that colts game. He flew down the middle of field. We know his wards when it comes to trying to defend the run as an edge rusher but as a special teams guy. He flies down the field and cracks heads from top to bottom. The pittsburgh steelers are going to have a great of great special teams unit and teams are going to have to travel a very long distance to score points and that is one of the most underrated things to be accepted of. When it comes to the pittsburgh steelers all that being said.
