"He had an exceptional game on Monday after the Giants used their bullpen, going seven innings only given five hits, three runs against Colorado. And picking up the wind throwing 98 pitches 75 for strikes. And when you look at Kevin Gausman when he pitches ahead, the hitters are only 44 for 2 75. That's how 1 60 batting average on the road. Kevin Gausman 72 with a 1.95 earned run average. Look for Kevin Gausman to go deep in this game and get that 14th win. Time now for today's injury report, sponsored by Brown and Toland, Physicians discover care where you are with brown and tone physicians. Well, we heard on the pregame show that Wilmer Flores is flying to Chicago possibly be in the lineup tomorrow against the left hander Justin Steele. That's good news. Austin Slater is still on the concussion protocol. Alex Dickerson is working out the hamstring Johnny Cueto's got a little arm issue. And we're looking for Donovan Solano to join the team and probably be on the roster when they come back on Monday to play the Padres. More diamond notes after the sun can be are these sports leader? I've put a lot of thought into my girlfriend's engagement ring. Did all the research shopped around and got lots of opinions. At first I was planning on getting her lab created Diamond. But after my visit to Shane Company, I changed my mind. I learned that lab created diamonds have continually dropped in value, whereas natural diamonds have consistently maintained or increased in value over time, and all the diamonds at Shane Company are natural. What's really cool about a natural diamond is that there is no other diamond in the world like it. It's a natural wonder created by the Earth billions of years ago, the oldest and rarest thing you'll ever touch. How romantic is that? And Shane companies. Diamonds are conflict free. They've always sourced their diamonds this way. So for my girlfriend's engagement ring, I chose a one carat.

"Find a way to make it work as long as those things hold up. While the Giants were playing yesterday, of course bags we in the in house feed and NBC Sports Bay Area we can see video of, uh Wilmer Flores and Donovan Solano, both running sprints and Solano is just coming back from Covid. I think he's gonna go on a rehab. But the floor is one was really encouraging to me because I had read and kind of thought that you know this is a hamstring injury that, he said for months. This goes back to earlier in the year, they really never quite healed. But he looked like he was busting it. And what a cab Tell you guys yesterday. He may be available at the end of this this road trip. Yeah, they're thinking Sunday. They're targeting Sunday to activate him and, you know, obviously they're going to have some some questions because Cairo Street has been playing great. And and he's kind of been the Solano on this team. And, uh, you know, Stephen Duggar made a huge difference, in course, and he's kind of been the Alex Dickerson on this team. And Kapler was pretty adamant. We want these guys back who are on the injured list. We're not necessarily going to just, you know, go with the hot hand we want. These guys have done a lot of for us, and we want them back on the roster, so it's going to be tricky Math and then whenever they get around to a post season roster, that's going to be tricky to, um, but but you're right. Flores has been a guy who's been just a great weapon against lefties and pretty good against right handed pitching when they've had to use them, too. So I'm sure they'll welcoming backed on Sunday, assuming he doesn't have a setback. Thanks. Thanks. As always, We appreciate it. Enjoy Chicago and we'll talk to you next week. Okay, we'll do have a good one. You behave nice, So he's uh there's a There's a trail where you can work off the food. Sure. Bring an old style. Okay. Deep dish on the trail with Ali Ali crumbs in case I pocket case. I have cardiac arrest. You know where to find me. Yeah, That's what we would do, we would get we had my dad had a routine. He would get that the Chicago style dog and they if you go to the legit places with the Vienna's They have they They get the wax paper and they wrapped the fries in it with it, And then they just salt the hell out of the fried put fries on tax. It's not to eat with it, but they just wrap it in the paper. Yeah, you wanna do the pain is not like the price of Pittsburgh, where they throw the fries on two brothers. No, it's not that, but still, it's like, so the first thing you do is you get to Chicago and you just bite into this dog with like the sport peppers and green relish and all this stuff. And then you got these salty fries and like, then you're there, and I wouldn't even unwrap it. I think I need it right through their happy There was a smell so good. It was a place walking distance right around the corner for my grandparents house. That was the first thing my dad would drop everything. He was a big beer guy, and he would we would we get it. He'd get an old style. Just not because it's good beard, because that's what you did. Chicago, Chicago and we get an old style and he would get a dog and we'd sit out there and like some rickety table, you know, with a basket, and it would that that was our like within 20 minutes. That's what we're doing. That you've got. George George is all that he doesn't need you on Halloween. You make 1 49 trip this year Soldier Field following. Oh, October 29th Friday. Just decided. That's done. All right. Uh, 10 minutes from now we'll give you the foreplay. Included in that we've got some Kyle Shanahan yesterday was a spirited in the the first. "No one's supplement at at home this year, so that would be and then they think they've outscored in What 22 to 10 or something like that. So, um, 22 to 8. So Yeah, then and Stephen Duggar, You know, he comes up because Alex Dickerson goes down and he's the perfect guy to play a course field almost worked out too. Well as much as you feel bad for Alex. Magical season continues. Well, let's use a few minutes. We have you here to look ahead. Then, if the next strategy decision for Kapler and the staff Is how to handle this off day in the pitching in Chicago. What do you think? Given what you've seen with this team? What's the most prudent move? Yeah. So we're going to talk to Gabe in about 10 or 15 minutes here and see if they he hasn't update. I doubt he's going to tell us anything. You know, You never want to make any firm pitching plans until you exit a series, of course Field, obviously. But you know, they would have to look at two straight bullpen games and then Kevin Gausman in Chicago unless they move up Guardsmen and Web and they can have them both pitch on regular rest, but it would be moving them up. And then they could have won bullpen game and then have Gausman Saturday Web Sunday. That really seems like the prudent thing to do as long as both those pictures feel like they're physically ready for it. And I asked Logan with that question. You know what if they're going to say, obviously, he said, he's ready for anything. And they do want to be cognizant, not push these guys too hard. But if they do move them up at least once. In the three off days they have left than they can line them up. So it would be Gausman and Web in the last two games of the season. And if maybe the last game doesn't even count, or, you know you're the wild card or whatever. Then you can skip Web and hasn't be your guy to go in the wild card game. But still a lot of things can happen between now and then. So we'll see how the rest of the event they've always been. Bearing on the side of conservation all year. But maybe this is the time when you start to push a little bit. I mean, he's thrown 119 innings Logan Web has, which you know, that's not a huge number. But it is way more than any. He's pitched in the big leagues. He pitched 54 last year 39 2019. So that becomes something that Andrew Bailey looks at. Oh, I'm sure you just don't want a big spike year over year and innings And really everyone is kind of spiking this year, right? Because nobody through. You know, nobody started more than 11 or 12 games last year, so I think everyone's going to be watched very carefully. And that's why you've seen, you know teams around the league. Be very cautious. That's why you know the Dodgers Giants didn't Move up whoever Gausman to face the Dodgers. That's why the Dodgers didn't move up next to resort to base. The Giants and the teams are really being very cautious, and so they're weighing that against, you know the cost and benefit and it may be a situation where they see how today's game goes, and it's Anthony D School. Funny can pitch like into the seventh or eighth inning, and the bullpen looks super super arrested. Maybe they feel they can get through to more bullpen games and And they won't have to push Gausman her web. So you know, I think they'll talk about it on the plane and, you know, be armed with the information they get out of this game here today and and figure it out from there, But you know, you certainly couldn't fault them for being tempted to move those guys up. And finally, Andy, you know, we talk about all the good things that have happened from Duggars winning and coursed beaten Bueller to all that stuff. But this I mean, the Alex Wood and Donovan Solano Covid. Things were bad, bad news man, and that was a potential body blow to this team. And here they are The resilience. Yeah, to keep coming. Kind of wondering where the wood story has taken us. And where the Solano story has taken us. Is there any anticipated plot turn here? Yeah, So Solano visited them in the dugout at the end of the last home stand, So he's obviously tested negative and and he's fine, and he's probably going to be back on the roster in Chicago. That's that's the plan anyway, and they'll have to figure out what to do with Cairo. Estrada because he's been a huge contributor as well. So you know good problem. The house in terms of Alex would He's coming to the end of his quarantine time. He wants to get right back on the mound as soon as you can get cattle are saying, you know, maybe getting him on the mound by this weekend might be a bit ambitious. But you know, As I wrote today, he's got quite a few incentives and he might stand to lose coming down with Covid might might stand to lose more than a million bucks because he's got incentives based on games in appearances. So if you want the details on that that stories up On the site, and he is not disclosed whether he's been vaccinated or not, And you know, we should not rush to judgment on this, because maybe he can't be because of you know, pre existing condition or, you know, there are some people who have gotten vaccinated. But just don't want to publicly say it because maybe they have standing members who would disagree with that stands in at least a discord. I mean, there's all kinds of problems and situations that people deal with. So you know, it's always good to not rush to judgment on anything but He has, you know, declined to disclose his vaccination status. We know he had. He was hit pretty hard by it, And we do know that people who are vaccinated if they have a breakthrough case, they tend to be milder. So you know, all of that can lead you to some suppositions. But ultimately, only Alex would really knows the answer to that. And, uh You know, it has cost the Giants certainly in terms of having to scramble to fill his spot. And it's probably going to cost him pretty deeply in the pocket book to read in the athletic. Alright, Andy. Good turbo hit. Go see Gabe and we'll talk to you next week. Keep reading in the athletic. Thanks. Okay. Thanks. Guys. Take care of your bag. And you bag a little turbo had gone through security. Of course. Field. Alright. Hey, Paulie will hand it over to pop in Lund. "Confident out there on the mountain, you know, Look, I'm not ready to go Tim Lincecum or Medicine Bumgarner quite yet. Just because of the accolades those guys had Lindsey Graham shows up and he's a cartoon character. He wins aside young Element of Logan Web has been more natural. It's been more how guys develop at the big league level, and we were just talking to show Kapadia about, you know, NFL quarterbacks and time to develop in the amount of time it takes them to figure things out. Now we're seeing guys develop quicker or we're seeing the same. I guess timeframe of development, but we're seeing guys make the adjustment he was focusing on Josh Allen saying. It's a guy who we didn't anticipate all of a sudden to make this jump looking website guy who they had high hopes for, But the development happened rapidly this season and in a year where, he said Couple of I l stands. I don't know that we could have foreseen this or anticipated this. And here Marty Lurie frequently talked about. You know the mosaic of the season and the surprises that are going to come about that sort of help you piece together what the season is going to be or what the season is or means, Um Or basically surprises. There are going to help you inject life into your season and sometimes act as an extra acquisition. Logan webs Perfect for that definition. I guess it's a guy who we didn't anticipate was going to be this Huge of an impact player. And I know you have your your wind days where you get into a stand the staff and you start to think, boy. If we get too to that guy start we get to the Jason Schmidt start. That guy is going to win the game. That guy can be the stopper. They haven't really needed to stop her. They've needed the guy who's just going to keep the ball rolling. And Logan Web has absolutely been just that more from from this post game stuff about Logan Web, he says Me and Buster Posey sat down a game plan for this game before the game, talking about getting extra ground balls, talking about getting first pitch strikes. He even said they discussed these Streak 14 consecutive starts of two or fewer earned runs. That streak came to an end yesterday. Look at Web talking game planning for this rocky lineup, but more so game planning for course, field Yeah, yeah, Before they came here, Buster talked about it, and it's just like at this place. You just got to attack these guys and they get a couple singles here and there, you know, so be here but try to stay away from the beginning, and it's really like try to walk anybody because when, when you start walking guys, these guys free basis That's when you kind of get in trouble, and I thought that was a big emphasis. You know what I was able to execute that and I don't know how many figure it's seven singles, so I kind of went with the game plan and, you know, work out. Yeah. What would the game plan and it worked out, throwing strikes and getting ground balls? That's the way to do it because you let the ball hit the air. Of course field. It can leave the yard Pretty quickly can also end up doing with Stephen Duggar did splitting the outfielders that ended up with with two triples and a double Yesterday he was on fire. We have a texture to 90 checks in, says I told you guys a couple of weeks ago, Duggar was the way to go this too. And I remember because you've been texting in stuff about Alex Dickerson anti Alex Dickerson for a couple of weeks. The one that I was all over was the guy was like, No, you're wrong. You're wrong. Dickerson gives you more than Duggar Does numbers wise, they mirror each other. You Sprinkle in the defense from Stephen Digger and and the Colorado impact the gap. The gap. Andy back early was calling him Charlie Blackmon like, same type of player. Yeah, You're right. Let's left handed bath who can split the gaps and, uh and hit for some power has a lot of Charlie Blackmon in them anyway. Stephen Duggar after the game. He's talking to Papa and Richard really on the post game, And he says yes. Haven't had many games like this couple triples, as well as hitting the double big game for Stevie doubles through and far between in terms of triples, But it's a big yard here, in course and was able to split split the gaps a couple times tonight and If we went? Yeah, I told you that. A minute ago. He had his third triple in three days had to last night and then one against the Walker Buehler on Sunday. They asked him about that one to the triple, awful Walker Buehler. How does that compare to these couple of triples you hit last night? Yeah, potentially. But honestly, you know, in the moment, it was just a quiet mind, you know, just trusting the game plan just in just in the approach. You know, I've been able to see him a few times this year. And look, we all know how good of a picture he is. But, you know, we're a pretty good team, too. So just wanted to be aggressive on something in my zone, and I was fortunate enough to keep that won fair and run around a little bit. Maybe you don't ask Stephen Digger about two about Walker Buehler. Maybe as Walker Buehler about Stephen Duggar. Let me ask you about that I was going to get him out next time anyway, that's going to do it for the Giants Post game on the other side. Well, we'll make the connection with Murphy Mac. We'll get rolling. It's a Wednesday morning. You're in the leadoff spot KNBR one. Oh 45 and 6 80. It's the sports leader. Go through your morning routine with copes. "Was in jeopardy of being sent to Triple a a few days ago because he wasn't hitting left handed pitching Emery. So du Bon, who is in Triple A Because he isn't hitting left handed pitching everyone else from the opening day lineup. Has had at least one injured, sent injured list since this season. If the Giants depth has allowed them to overcome so much And they're poised to get Evan Longoria back at third base. You can option Jason Vossler. They're poised to get Tommy La Stella back at second base. I don't know what you do at second base with Donovan Solano and La Stella and Wilmer Flores on the right side of the infield. But maybe Lamont Way goes the outfield. Maybe. They figure something else out with Alex Dickerson has been really struggling. I do think that Come the end of this month for hands that he might need to consider. Trade options that move a guy or two off the major league roster, maybe bring in another starting pitcher. Just to gain some added flexibility. We're in a belt could be back as well. What does that mean for Lamonte Wade, who isn't hitting in the month of July, like he was in the month of June, when fans were outraged when he was sent to Triple A And look, I understood that Lamont way did not deserve to go down. But Has been the same player since he came back up. So All of this is to say. This is a really good problem to have for the challenge when you're thinking about slotting in a Longoria, a belt, a la Stella, even an Aaron Sanchez on your major league roster. Getting players back as opposed to losing players. No one can get hurt over the next four days is the All Star break. So unless they're going out and hitting the dirt bike patch in Denver, which a Giants player has been known to do once or twice. They'll come back from the All Star break pretty healthy. So the Giants Go in. Do this four day break. 57 32 the Giants go in. "Season, and I think that I've lost a little bit, you know, having done this for three or four years at that point, and then it's been even more rejuvenated by this 2021 season. Having fans back in the park and having home teams be the ones to hit the walk offs and not the San Diego Padres and Trent Grisham. Doing it against the San Francisco Giants of empty stadiums. Historical park. It's back to what baseball was before. Why I fell in love with the sport. So yeah, I mean, it would be a horrific time trying to explain all that to aliens, but I never put myself in the shoes of someone who's gonna be responsible for that. Yeah, Like counting Crows said. You don't know what you've got til it's gone Carry. That's the There you go. First Counting crows reference the show. Not first, not the last. I'm sure. Something about a parking lot. Sweet Paradise. Something's in there. Yeah, I mean, they paved over lot A to put up to put up the Giants paradise over there. So by the way, it's the sure that they opened the fences. Now are the archways are open. I think they are. I think they are. But I was always on the team. That belief that that was a myth that the archways had no or minimal effect on the way that the ball was carrying Oracle Park. So just for the record, I never believed that was true. Alex Dickerson a few weeks ago came out and said On the media a bit too big of a deal about it. I wanted to clap when he said that because I felt like I was justified my stance in saying that it had little to no effect. I just never believed that the archways being open 350 ft from home plate was going to impact the carry the ball in a way that was going to completely alter the home run statistics and local park. I just never bought it by the way, not to you. Not that it would happen on June, But I would kill to be like in the in the media room after a game when Alex Dickerson says that and then There's just you in the back. We'll just start clapping. Your like hell. Yeah, Alex, I'm with you, man. There's no way that's what changed and he said it so he disregarded it. You went Yes, they put up a couple of tarp. So we started hitting home runs like he could not believe that that was actually something that was said, But baseball is all with them. Baseball is all about right now trying to make the game. "To give you a real quick giants, notes Alex Dickerson and Darren Rough or off the aisle. That's good news. The Giants are obviously swinging the bat well after six and one home, staying with which where they hit 16 home runs. And added batting average collectively of 3 33. Hey, man, more sticks to the party. I'm sure those guys can't wait to come up here and eat. Here are the corresponding moves Jason Vossler, who was played a more than capable third base in the absence of Yemen. Longoria, Jason Vossler, optioned out and Lamont way, Junior who really did nothing to warrant just to kind of, uh, a punitive demotion if you will, but it definitely seems like a numbers game And I know a lot of people going away. "I mean, just like 19 games. He's got seven home runs in 2019. He hit seven home runs all year, He posted his lowest average is lowest on base. He was striking out more than he ever has. You struck out four times in the game in 2019 Never done that before, And that was a big piece. I think writer in August. In fact, I talked him, of course Field. Before a game and said, Look, you know, um, this hip surgery is not necessarily been a fountain of youth for for you has it, He said. No it and there wasn't supposed to be. It was supposed to allow me to not think about it as much and be on the field, stay on the field and compete. He did that in 2019. But who thought that he could put together a month or even a span in 19 games like he has where your O P s leaders for everybody who's got you know 60 or 30 at bats in the big leagues. You've got Mike Trout. You got a buyer in boxing has been a sensation this year. Your pasta Posey. They got Ronald. Couldn't you Junior who was having a great year and poses? Oh, PS in him right now. I mean anyone who saw that coming Um, you know, had a lot of faith and Buster Posey's ability, um and probably wasn't paying attention to. You know a lot of the evidence from from 2016 on and it's been It just reminds you this guy is an elite talent when it comes to hand eye coordination, and when his body allows him to do things, you still pretty darn good hitter. And I mean this. This is pretty darn important. If Buster Posey can have That kind of resurgent season. It's going to affect his ability to be a giant long term. It's going to affect whether he can be a slam dunk Hall of Famer instead of a guy who's gonna have to languish on the ballot a little bit or maybe not get in. Let's not forget a guy like horny. Posada was one and done. He never even got 5%. So you know if Buster, I think needs a few good offensive seasons to be a Hall of Famer, and so there's a lot of steak here for his legacy. I think even though it's obviously going to be, you know, stainless and he'll be revered for life for what he's done is a giant butt. You still got a lot more you can accomplish and I know he's not thinking about it this way. But right now he's showing that Hey, I can still be an elite player in this league and it's been. It's been pretty eye opening to watch really good something with Cooperstown one. I know we're sort of at the time, but we can do this later. It is Yadi Molina ahead of him in the horse race between the two best catchers is No. No question. No question. I think he's ahead of him because he's got When we're compiling numbers, he's got way more gold gloves. I think he's a think Yadi is is for me a slam dunk, first ballot Hall of Famer and Buster's pretty borderline right now, To be honest, Yeah, interesting stuff. Hey, Paperwork question, not paperwork. Actually, it's more than paperwork's. That's wrong Phrase. Just transaction questions less Stella. Going for 4 to 6 Weeks is a big deal. That's tough. So Vossler Jason Vossler, come on down, but What would you anticipate knowing 400 Scott Harris and means Vossler is going to get like a couple of days to show and then they keep looking. Or is it just Hey, Vossler, You're the guy. No, I think they'll write it out. I mean, they have You know the kid he got from the Yankees as well that they they like, and he said he's a triple A. I don't know if they're gonna make a sort of a move to acquire someone. You know, like another Mike. Talk when you can play the infield right now, that may have been Just an opportunistic acquisition right there. I think they just have to write it out. Hopefully get Donovan Solano back sometime soon. Might Jastremski they hope to have back on Friday he'll We'll have to lengthen that line about a little bit, but you know, they've got options. They've got people that can use to cover the infield but makes it even more important than Evan Longoria stays healthy that Brandon Crawford stays healthy and that they don't you know, over exposed some of those guys while trying to fill the gaps, and, Yeah, it's a bummer of an injury because, you know, just like, um, some of these other guys just like you. Yes, we're starting to come around, and then he got hurt. Look, Stella was really starting to come around, and then he got hurt. So the Giants are Our little secret, but you look up and they've got the best record in the National League. And and so you know whether it's the pitching just stand is dialed in if they have been or other guys stepping up when Alex Dickerson catching fire it, hopefully a shoulders not too bad or Brandon Belt catching fire like you did yesterday. Just gonna have to find ways to pick up slack perfectly stated. Andy Day ball. Get your pencil ready. You gotta game coming, so enjoy. It will keep parading in. Thanks for coming on. Okay. Enjoy that. Some day. Baseball guys. Yeah, there it is. 12 10 Polly Logan Web. Yes, I know. We got very little time. But quickly. "See all of us, and I think we're gonna learn. Ah, whole lot. In spring training about what Buster Posey is capable of just based solely on where he isn't lineup how often he's playing. If they've got him going back to backs. It'll be interesting to see Adam. I want to move on to pressing question Number two, and that is speaking of the lineup. Speaking of where Buster Posey's hitting. I do believe it'll be much lower this year that it was under Bruce Bochy is the Giants lineup better? Against right handed pitchers or left handed pitchers. Keep this in mind against righties. You'll see Brandon Crawford, Brandon Belt, Tommy Lost Ella Alex Dickerson. Maybe new trade acquisition. Lamont weighed against lefties. It'll be Donovan Solano, Donnie Barrels. Wilmer Flores, Darren Rough, Austin Slater and Marie She. O D. Bon. What's funny? Is there so many guys and this is far Hunt's plan and we see this with the Dodgers. You're going to see it with the Padres. So much versatility is what makes them attractive. You can mix and match now I do think When they have the left handed lineup out there against the left handed pitcher. They're gonna miss the designated hitter more than some other teams. I think not having for not having the ability to put Wilmer Flores out. There is an extra bad not having a guy to put have the ability to put Darren rough necessarily out there because Alex Dickerson probably going to start left and that comes back to my left fielder situation with you is if he was the opening day left fielder last year, and if They have a right handed starter for Seattle on opening day. You should see Alex Dickerson in left field, right? Who's the Mariners? Ace to the Mariners Have an ace? Who's on the Mariners. That's a very question like Is this strange? Gordon still up there? No, he actually just kind of minor league deal with the Reds. So, Yeah, they're most prominent player for the last few years, getting a minor league contract in Cincinnati. That's when you know you have built a juggernaut, a team that has produced so many so many incredible players. I mean, we're talking. You know Alex Rodriguez and Omar Vizquel was up there. Randy Johnson's up there. Ken Griffey, Griffey's You and you're doing Martinez bread, but nothing to write home about, You know, the greatest single season team of all time. Nothingto write home about anyway, when it comes to the success of this lineup, I really do think the right handed hitting line up against the left handed pitching is going to be the team with the most success. Donovan Solano. What we saw from him last year is gonna be huge. Brandon Belt was awful against left handed pitching last year didn't see a bunch of it. But under I think was under 1 30 against lefties. So I'm or intrigued by the guys that were brought in last year that we saw success from Mikey, as is going to be out there against lefties and righties. I really like the idea of Darren Rough playing some first base. Against lefties and getting a chance to hit. Maybe you put a guy like like Wilmer Flores over a third. I think that he doesn't play who doesn't play first base on this team. If Darren Rough, Austin Slater, Brandon Belt, Tommy Lost Ella and Wilmer Flores and Buster Posey all had first baseman's mitt. My question is spring training. The question is who doesn't get to play against the left? Which right handed batter you leave it out of the line up against the lefty. I got a place later. I gotta play. I probably Maurice here to bond for me to bond may be the one who he may be. He may be the only guy capable of going to shortstop because you really gonna trust a guy named Donny barrels to go play with the glove shortstop right now, after all the years he made last season. So what you're telling me is what these burning questions I've got No answers about that burning issue. This is this is back to your home. Which light up this better. We like it so funny, I think last year we spent all if we were doing this podcast one year ago today on February 11th, 2000 and 20. And by the way, what? We had no idea what was coming, right? Yeah, no idea. Not only that Not only the covert 19 pandemic was coming, but the Darren rough exist during rough existed by the way we were looking at, like, Yo yo Omar Sanchez will be out there and second for the Giants Billy Hamilton Center. Exactly So the burning questions in February much different than the burning questions at the end of March, right? Yeah, I will say though I'm gonna counter you, and I think that the line up against right handed pitchers will actually be better because Tommy list l, a brain a belt, Mikey Stransky and Alex Dickerson those air for patient hitters. Those are guys who really complement each other. Well, I think that you know the phrase that the sum is greater than the whole of its parts. I think that is particularly true with that group getting with Stella in there. He's what you know gonna hit 2 70 to 80. Probably an O. P s around 7 50. You're not gonna get anything spectacular, but you will see the residual effect of his at bats and his plate appearances further down in the line of I think he just makes everyone else better. And so that's why I take the writers over the lefties. I think that's a really interesting proposition. And I think the power's definitely bigger with the left handed hitting lineup versus right handed pitching. I also do think Gabe Kapler will have an easier time transitioning toe left handed bullpen arms who come in to face That line up late in the game or in the middle of the game, because you'll have the ability to go to Austin Slater to go to Darren Rough to go to Don Solano off the bench. And if you've got those three guys to step in for your time, it was Stella's and you're Brandon Belts are probably not Mike, you scram ski. But if you plug in some of those guys, maybe Dickerson to face a lefty in that situation, Think of Ah, I don't know. In the past, you might seem like a Jake McGee coming in for the Dodgers to see that line up late now, Of course, he's a giant. But if you can plug in some of those guys to face the left handed pitcher, I think waiting the game your your ability to mix and match. Pretty good. I don't have the same confidence with the bench coming in against a right handed hitter late in the game versus a lefty. Yeah, I'm with you on that. So let's move on to our third pressing question. And this is something that I was doing Research for a story yesterday and I was counting all the losing seasons the Giants have had in their history and I was thinking, OK, When's the last time they've lost? You know they've gone under 505 straight years. So I start going back that that period from like 2006 to 2009 or whatever, you know it wasn't great, I think was 5 4000. That's right. That was four consecutive losing once and then I start to go back. You know, they have four consecutive losing seasons in in the seventies or eighties. There. Then you go back to the New York Giants three losing seasons here, the New York Jax were dominant for a long period of time. People forget don't sleep on the 1906 to 1910 New York giants Christy Mathewson. Was was incredible. But then you go back to the New York Gotham's, which was the team before The New York Times They still have not lost..

Alex Rodriguez Ken Griffey Omar Vizquel Donovan Solano Donnie Barrels Randy Johnson Brandon Crawford Wilmer Flores Brandon Belt Gabe Kapler Christy Mathewson Darren Rough Mikey Stransky Austin Slater Mike Don Solano Bruce Bochy Tommy Lost Jake McGee Dickerson

"Crowley. He covers the Giants for the Bay Area News group carries nice enough to hang out with us on the home against line here in the Tolbert, Kruger and Brooks show. Carrie, We always appreciate the time how you doing, man. Um, well, especially now that baseball's coming back looking forward to head on down to the desert soon. How are you guys? We are doing fine and we share your sentiment. You know what baseball's here? Let's go ahead and get it on. Unfortunately, it sure seems like When it comes to the National League, a specific in the National League West. We kind of know who the big dogs are gonna be the Dodgers and the Padres. But I don't think that's gonna make this giant season any less interesting and Intriguing is the rotation eyes that the not necessarily the biggest issue on this team, but is that something that really needs to be sorted out and hashed out in spring training and when we get answers when we get so once we get to opening day? I think it's certainly the biggest concern right now, Rod and you look at the rotation the Giants are planning around right now. It's Kevin Gosman, Johnny Cueto, Anthony DeSclafani, Alex Wood, and then a competition for the fifth starter job. And right now you look at that and say the front runner. Is Logan Web, but I would not be surprised at all if they added one more major league free agent Edition. Maybe swing a trade somewhere with using their excess infielder BOPE in depth and potentially signing two or three guys to minor league deals who can compete for jobs in the rotation like they did last year with Trevor Cahill. Thais Ross few years before that, with Derek Holland just because Go from 60 games to 162 games is a monumental challenge in itself to do it with the rotation. The Giants are trying to do it with where you've got a number of guys who are trying to come back from bounce back seasons or coming off of injuries. I mean, that is a really, really difficult task, not even to mention the division that they're in. Center field. I mean, they were rumored to be after Jackie Bradley Jr. He still hasn't signed. It Sounds like he wants maybe a four year deal or maybe a five year deal. I don't think I can't see them going that long with him with all the outfielders they have. In the pipeline. Where do you think they stand with Bradley? You think they're out? You think they're still monitoring? You think there's a chance? It seems like everybody's kind of blocking it and a long term deal for him. Yeah, I would imagine they're monitoring Larry. I don't think that anything is likely. And I wouldn't say that they're probably even in on Jackie Bradley Jr at this point, especially after the addition of Lamont Wade via the trade with Minnesota and trading Sean Anderson to get the left handed hitting center field prospects. But I think that they'll move forward with Tommy lost Ella being the left handed edition, the bath that they were talking about that they were looking for, and I think that list l A in the infield really does compliment some of their other left handed hitters. Well, you looked the lineup. They could have against righties. You have less Stella, you have Alex Dickerson, You have Mikey Stransky, Brandon Belt. That's a really tough quartet of hitters to navigate through and then in center field. I would say that Marie she had a bomb is probably the front the front runner to get most of the playing time there, but expect way to compete in spring training. Maybe Steven Duggar will find his way into the mix. He's still on the 40 man roster in a few years ago, the judge, we're very excited about him, and so I just think that center field is no longer as big of a priority because they did address that left handed hole in their lineup by adding less Stella. Carry. Which one of the young guy is, Uh, you are most likely to come up and play and get some games and some of bats or some endings this year. The really tough question to answer, Tom because all of the young or damn it answer. I can't answer it. Well, all the young really exciting guys gonna be playing in San Jose, it lo Wei and Eugene it Hi, eight this year, and so you're going to see Marco Luciano Hunter Bishop Louise to review you're gonna be hearing those names all season, but they're really not gonna have a chance to impact this Giants lineup if there was one guy Who I said by the middle of the summer or the end of the season. If he really had an opportunity, it would be Elliott Ramos. And, Of course, Joey Bart's going to be in the mix. We know that he'll probably start the season in Triple A, but eventually he's going to be in that tandem with Buster Posey. But Ramos is the guy who they're looking for. To make major strides. I'd say, probably double a triple A first half of the season. They have to add him. The 40 Man roster by the end of this winter, anyway, so you might as well take a look at him at the end of the year, particularly with the power production. He can give you to see if he can still be that premium center field prospect that they were hoping for when they first drafted him back in 2017. And so I think that hopes were pinned high on Ramos right now. We're talking Giants with Terry Crowley, who covers the Giants for the Bay Area News Group, a group led by the San Jose Mercury News. Carrie is joining us on the Omagh guess line. Do you think the Giants are going to out of necessity have to spend Portion of the beginning of the season..

"What gets even better the Giants of bringing him to camp they actually invited. This guy that can't be is a glass eye is one eye and they're bringing him to camp. And they said that the eye the vision to only have one eye that one other guy played with one eye on the big leagues, a camera Bryza name, But they said that For, like, kind of like in close depth perception when they said the batteries make up their mind way before the ball gets to home plate, So he goes with one eye. He goes. That's not gonna affect that so much. So you know who's taking batting practice going out there and hit on the field? Uh, hitting the balls over the wall. Feeling good and you have the Giants are going to give him Because he was with the Giants. I mean, he was with the Giants. And to see that through and in the live through it. And then you know, come out the other side and there's you know, there's a bit of hope and optimism at the end of it. Yo, man this while that's the heaviest, wildest story I've ever heard in my life when they say, and there's some really There's some really No part. There's some really powerful parts of this is well in that. You know, One of his things that is discussed in this piece is that he battled with, you know, wasn't gonna make it or not, And did he want to give his His. You know his his wife? Ah, life of a minor league lifestyle, And he was like, literally that you could tell that that was like, Wait on him, And then you just wonder about The impact of the shutdown and the isolation of all that and how much that contributed to this, But it's a true tragedy, and it's a Zen incredible story. It would be an incredible movie. Um And and I just I root for this guy, You know? Hopefully, you know, maybe you could go to spring training and find a career and find more importantly, find some inner peace. Yeah. I mean, look, it was an almost tragedy that hopefully turns out, uh, you know, Turns out where you look back 20 years from now go for a man of glad we kept this guy around. I'm glad this guy's still here because he's helped He's helped a lot of people, and he says he battles with it, You know, still daily. He thought about honorably thought about getting a gun or you're doing something to himself, he said recently, because it's all recent. This is all like since last November December. I mean, this is all like this isn't a year ago. This is like months months ago, I guess is ah, that's what it was. Or maybe it was in the summer. I have to go back and look at the exact date. But It's just When you think about somebody like that, that we way might even know somebody like that. Who knows? I mean, when you look at somebody, you think this person's find me They're laughing and having a good time and they seem normal. And you don't know And then they do something like this. But he said he has the tools now like he goes. I have the tools now to handle this. I can I can you know, I still got a battle it sometimes and I write in the journal every day, and sometimes it's a paragraph. Sometimes it's one sentence. I just write something that In the journal But he goes I have tools now. So when, when something like that it comes upon me. I know what to do. Because like I can, I can you know I can. I can hopefully handle it, but I feel like I'm better equipped. Handle it. But he said, talking to people was like a huge, huge deal. Just tired out, doctor. Somebody cause a lot of families don't talk. Ah lot. I don't tell. You know, my dad wasn't a huge talk. We talked my mom. My mom's a talker, so we'll talk. We'll get on the phone and talk and stuff like that. But that's the one thing that my family always Had and I'm so thankful for it. We would always say I love you before we leave the house when we come home for our go to bed. So like that gonna I love you. Or just all right. Be back later. Love you and just all the time and just little stuff. I know it's hard for For some people, but that's always big in our household to just, you know, lovey. Okay, get off the phone with somebody. I love you talk to later stuff like that. I mean, just it means so much in E. No. It's hard for families. But if you could just do I mean, just to have somebody know that, you know. Hey, I love you, You know, just doesn't have to be like, Hey, I love you. And I'm gonna tell you why all the time. I mean, you could do that occasionally, but just I love you. So I'm so thankful that that you know, I got that from my mom. And my dad and that we do with my brother. Talk to my brother. Talk to him last night. All right, let me Jeff. Yeah. Talk to you later. Whatever. Get off the phone, Leave a message and say I love you. That's how big it was in our household. Just think, huh? I love you. You just need so I just wish more people just could say that. Just just let your family know you love them Just the way I love you. And if you want to get into a big conversation, I mean, that's cool. I'm not a huge big conversation guy, but I tried to let people know how I'm feeling and stuff like that. But just those words at me. No, you're loved and And I think of more people would just do that. I think if people here that you just hear that, you know there's people out there. I love you. But if you need to talk to somebody there are people out there don't feel like you gotta go through this alone. Don't feel like you gotta suffer alone. Just talkto, you know, and it just pick up the phone, talk to somebody and and hopefully you'll feel much better. But, Alicia, have someone, uh, to tell you how you're feeling. He was a great job done on that piece of shit up so glad she's guys read that story..

"This is going to be the first player that they've really said you were going to be a part of the future when we think that we can win again, and I think that Tommy lost. Ella is not just a winning 2020 22 or 2023 move. It's also a hey, Let's see what we can do in 2021. Let's see if you know the Padres of the Dodgers get Severe injuries or something chaotic happens where there's issues with them where the Giants are all of a sudden challenging for the second wild card spot because the NL East is going to be tough. There's gonna be teams that emerge from there, but you look at this light up and Tommy was selling. Let's assume he hits leadoff for the Giants against right handed pitchers. You remember lineup that has Mikey Stransky, Brandon Belt Alex Dickerson, Tommy La Stella and Brandon Crawford probably getting down on the seventh or a slot. That's gonna be really good. That's gonna be a really, really tough light up on these pictures in the National League. And so the patients the plate discipline the amount of balls that are in play with these guys. It's just a group that kind of syncs up really well, so he was always going to be the most obvious edition. And I think that it's no surprise to anyone who follows the Giants, whose followed far anxieties tenure that he was the guy they ultimately settled on for their left handed back. Yeah, I think the question for me is where he fits in beyond this season, and it's not that he doesn't fit in. It's so many players are coming off the roster after this year. You and I have talked about Brandon Belt a free agent Brandon Crawford's offer. Basically, if you run through the Giants roster. What's so funny is the only guys they're actually committed to a fate. Decide not to bring back Buster Posey, your pick up that option if they decide not to bring back Johnny Cueto. It's like a few relief pitchers. That's Evan Longoria over there. Third base. You got some arbitration, guys. You Stransky and Alex Dickerson, our guys you're gonna have to deal with arbitration lies. But like Donovan Solano free agent after this year's this a guy you say, See you later to do you say the same to Wilmer Flores, who's got isn't a team option at the team options for three million. I mean, that is a bargain for Wilmer deals. Yeah, exactly like he would be making way more if he was still arbitration eligible, so But you're right. Also look at the pitching staff. The rotation Gosman Cueto de Sclafani. Alex would who just signed one year three million who's gonna be back next year? Who's going to be wearing the orange and black and 2022? Because we have no genuine concept or clue of what that roster is gonna look like? So they haven't locked themselves into basically anything And I guess what's what's a little worrisome is like I look at the free agent market next off season and there are it's going to be one of the best, and I assume that some of these guys are going to get extensions. It's going to be one of the best free agent classes of all time. I think when you talk about young Thomas Harlan, this is a free agent. Corey Seager is a free agent Nolan era. Nono has an opt out. Trevor Story's going to be a free agent. Not just a whole lot of great short stops and infielders and power bats and young guys coming up. But a lot of guys in the NL West that could either shuffle within the division or move outside of the division that could really have an impact on what happens with the powers that be as far as the Padres and the Dodgers go, so I'm also wondering like, Do you think the Giants and I assume they have like, looked at a couple of these guys and said, Like Corey Seager's Our number one option. You can pull him from the Dodgers or whatever, but also you're gonna have to fill out a rotation of five guys, you have no pictures under contract. As far as the rotation goes beyond this season, so first off the guy who stands out to me, picture wise Lance McCullers shinier because he's got that sensational curveball. Everything about his analytics profile screams. The San Francisco Giants like he is going to work with Brian Banister. I've already put Lance McCullers and a giant uniform for 2022, because I'm not confident that they're gonna have interest in him. Just totally unrestricted free agent. I believe I believe so. I believe so I have to go back and check because there is some arbitration stuff that makes someone unclear but He was on my list of guys who's like when he comes up when the time comes, put him in a Giants uniform because it makes too much sense. But you go back to the shortstop conversation. Obviously, this is the last year Brandon Crawford in a Giants uniform. We know far anxiety loves Corey Seager. We know he loves left handed hitters at premium positions that power can play it Oracle Park. We have seen it time and time again. The guy has popped balls into the arcade throughout his career. It has not hindered him hitting it Orca part him or Trevor story. You were weakening an opponent within your own division by going out inside in one of those guys. I just think that if the Giants going to target signing someone from this massive free agent class, those two are the guys who make the biggest difference and have the track record of performance in Oracle Park that would make them so fun and just foundational pieces for that exchange score. It is super tantalizing to think about, like one or two big free agent because I imagine like next offseason. This is where Scott Harrison and Farhaan they get the shopping. Clark. They start walking around like, Who do we want? It doesn't have to be bargain bin guys. Maybe you could get Kevin Gossman assign an extension at the end of this year or near the and based on what he does, maybe Alex. What is a guy who starts to see the young players coming up and thinks this is somewhere I want to be. I buy into the system I buy into Farhaan, which is Effectively. What he said when he signed his deal because we're going to start to see these young guys this year. In theory, Alex Canario, you're gonna start to see I would hope Elliot Ramos at some point, maybe at the back end of this year. I don't know if Marco Luciano is going toe to sniff the bigs this year, But there's already I mean, he's in baseball. America's top 100 prospects already. So this is like you had one of these guys with all this young talent, the 100 bishops they're supposed to be here in the next 2 to 3 years. I think the Giants of a pretty intriguing young core called me a homer because I haven't checked But like you Sprinkle in one of these prospects air some of these prospects with one of these big name free agents. We're talking. That's the makeup for success, right? Yeah, absolutely. They're in a position to where, if three or four, these big prospects panned out two or three big free agent signings or big free agents come inside with Sam Biscoe giants 2022 2023 2024. They could be contending with the Padres and Dodgers atop the nationally West. Especially with far Hans ability to find.

"If you can see players play so the Giants this week and I guess it's not finalize this recording on Thursday morning, and it is the corpse and Crowley podcast by the way on candy are one of 456 80 dot com. But the the Giants apparently had reached there are reaching an agreement or in conversations trying to sign. Ah, pretty good player, and it'll be the longest deal that far out. Assigned anyone to in his tenure is Giants president of baseball Ops and its atomic Estella, the former Oakland A. The former and I'm Angel. What do you know about this? One of the details of this and what do you think of the movie Carrie not just the longest deal. But according to Susan Slusser, with Sam Prescott Chronicle, who just put this out on Thursday morning could be the biggest deal the Giants have given out under far, anxiety, is she Saying it's in the neighborhood of 19 million. I had heard really close to what jerks and pro far got from the San Diego Padres, which was three years 21 million. And so right around that three years 20 million years, beginning gaining 6.5 7 million average annual value, which to me? Eyes a little bit surprising because the Giants don't like to make long term commitments. This is going to be the first player that they've really said you were going to be a part of the future when we think that we can win again, and I think that Tommy lost.
