They're targeting Sunday to activate him and, you know, obviously they're going to have some some questions because Cairo Street has been playing great. And and he's kind of been the Solano on this team. And, uh, you know, Stephen Duggar made a huge difference, in course, and he's kind of been the Alex Dickerson on this team. And Kapler was pretty adamant. We want these guys back who are on the injured list. We're not necessarily going to just, you know, go with the hot hand we want. These guys have done a lot of for us, and we want them back on the roster, so it's going to be tricky Math and then whenever they get around to a post season roster, that's going to be tricky to, um, but but you're right. Magical season continues. Well, let's use a few minutes. We have you here to look ahead. Then, if the next strategy decision for Kapler and the staff Is how to handle this off day in the pitching in Chicago. What do you think? Given what you've seen with this team? What's the most prudent move? Yeah. So we're going to talk to Gabe in about 10 or 15 minutes here and see if they he hasn't update. I doubt he's going to tell us anything. You know, You never want to make any firm pitching plans until you exit a series, of course Field, obviously. But you know, they would have to look at two straight bullpen games and then Kevin Gausman in Chicago unless they move up Guardsmen and Web and they can have them both pitch on regular rest, but it would be moving them up. And then they could have won bullpen game and then have Gausman Saturday Web Sunday. That really seems like the prudent thing to do as long as both those pictures feel like they're physically ready for it. And I asked Logan with that question. You know what if they're going to say, obviously, he said, he's ready for anything. And they do want to be cognizant, not push these guys too hard. But if they do move them up at least once. In the three off days they have left than they can line them up. So it would be Gausman and Web in the last two games of the season. And if maybe the last game doesn't even count, or, you know you're the wild card or whatever. Then you can skip Web and hasn't be your guy to go in the wild card game. The Giants and the teams are really being very cautious, and so they're weighing that against, you know the cost and benefit and it may be a situation where they see how today's game goes, and it's Anthony D School. Funny can pitch like into the seventh or eighth inning, and the bullpen looks super super arrested. Maybe they feel they can get through to more bullpen games and And they won't have to push Gausman her web. So you know, I think they'll talk about it on the plane and, you know, be armed with the information they get out of this game here today and and figure it out from there, But you know, you certainly couldn't fault them for being tempted to move those guys up. And finally, Andy, you know, we talk about all the good things that have happened from Duggars winning and coursed beaten Bueller to all that stuff. But this I mean, the Alex Wood and Donovan Solano Covid. Things were bad, bad news man, and that was a potential body blow to this team. And here they are The resilience. Yeah, to keep coming. Kind of wondering where the wood story has taken us. And where the Solano story has taken us. Is there any anticipated plot turn here? Yeah, So Solano visited them in the dugout at the end of the last home stand, So he's obviously tested negative and and he's fine, and he's probably going to be back on the roster in Chicago. That's that's the plan anyway, and they'll have to figure out what to do with Cairo. Estrada because he's been a huge contributor as well. So you know good problem. The house in terms of Alex would He's coming to the end of his quarantine time. He wants to get right back on the mound as soon as you can get cattle are saying, you know, maybe getting him on the mound by this weekend might be a bit ambitious. But you know, As I wrote today, he's got quite a few incentives and he might stand to lose coming down with Covid might might stand to lose more than a million bucks because he's got incentives based on games in appearances. So if you want the details on that that stories up On the site, and he is not disclosed whether he's been vaccinated or not, And you know, we should not rush to judgment on this, because maybe he can't be because of you know, pre existing condition or, you know, there are some people who have gotten vaccinated. But just don't want to publicly say it because maybe they have standing members who would disagree with that stands in at least a discord. I mean, there's all kinds of problems and situations that people deal with. So you know, it's always good to not rush to judgment on anything but He has, you know, declined to disclose his vaccination status. We know he had. He was hit pretty hard by it, And we do know that people who are vaccinated if they have a breakthrough case, they tend to be milder. So you know, all of that can lead you to some suppositions. But ultimately, only Alex would really knows the answer to that. And, uh You know, it has cost the Giants certainly in terms of having to scramble to fill his spot. Now we're seeing guys develop quicker or we're seeing the same. I guess timeframe of development, but we're seeing guys make the adjustment he was focusing on Josh Allen saying. It's a guy who we didn't anticipate all of a sudden to make this jump looking website guy who they had high hopes for, But the development happened rapidly this season and in a year where, he said Couple of I l stands. I don't know that we could have foreseen this or anticipated this. And here Marty Lurie frequently talked about. You know the mosaic of the season and the surprises that are going to come about that sort of help you piece together what the season is going to be or what the season is or means, Um Or basically surprises. There are going to help you inject life into your season and sometimes act as an extra acquisition. Logan webs Perfect for that definition. I guess it's a guy who we didn't anticipate was going to be this Huge of an impact player. And I know you have your your wind days where you get into a stand the staff and you start to think, boy. "Was in jeopardy of being sent to Triple a a few days ago because he wasn't hitting left handed pitching Emery. So du Bon, who is in Triple A Because he isn't hitting left handed pitching everyone else from the opening day lineup. Has had at least one injured, sent injured list since this season. If the Giants depth has allowed them to overcome so much And they're poised to get Evan Longoria back at third base. You can option Jason Vossler. They're poised to get Tommy La Stella back at second base. I don't know what you do at second base with Donovan Solano and La Stella and Wilmer Flores on the right side of the infield. But maybe Lamont Way goes the outfield. Maybe. They figure something else out with Alex Dickerson has been really struggling. I do think that Come the end of this month for hands that he might need to consider. Trade options that move a guy or two off the major league roster, maybe bring in another starting pitcher. Just to gain some added flexibility. We're in a belt could be back as well. What does that mean for Lamonte Wade, who isn't hitting in the month of July, like he was in the month of June, when fans were outraged when he was sent to Triple A And look, I understood that Lamont way did not deserve to go down. Speaking of where Buster Posey's hitting. I do believe it'll be much lower this year that it was under Bruce Bochy is the Giants lineup better? Against right handed pitchers or left handed pitchers. Keep this in mind against righties. You'll see Brandon Crawford, Brandon Belt, Tommy Lost Ella Alex Dickerson. Maybe new trade acquisition. Lamont weighed against lefties. It'll be Donovan Solano, Donnie Barrels. Wilmer Flores, Darren Rough, Austin Slater and Marie She. O D. Bon. What's funny? Is there so many guys and this is far Hunt's plan and we see this with the Dodgers. You're going to see it with the Padres. So much versatility is what makes them attractive. You can mix and match now I do think When they have the left handed lineup out there against the left handed pitcher. They're gonna miss the designated hitter more than some other teams. I think not having for not having the ability to put Wilmer Flores out. There is an extra bad not having a guy to put have the ability to put Darren rough necessarily out there because Alex Dickerson probably going to start left and that comes back to my left fielder situation with you is if he was the opening day left fielder last year, and if They have a right handed starter for Seattle on opening day. You should see Alex Dickerson in left field, right? Who's the Mariners? Ace to the Mariners Have an ace? Who's on the Mariners. That's a very question like Is this strange? Gordon still up there? No, he actually just kind of minor league deal with the Reds. So, Yeah, they're most prominent player for the last few years, getting a minor league contract in Cincinnati. Nothingto write home about anyway, when it comes to the success of this lineup, I really do think the right handed hitting line up against the left handed pitching is going to be the team with the most success. Donovan Solano. What we saw from him last year is gonna be huge. Brandon Belt was awful against left handed pitching last year didn't see a bunch of it. But under I think was under 1 30 against lefties. So I'm or intrigued by the guys that were brought in last year that we saw success from Mikey, as is going to be out there against lefties and righties. I really like the idea of Darren Rough playing some first base. Against lefties and getting a chance to hit. Maybe you put a guy like like Wilmer Flores over a third. I think that he doesn't play who doesn't play first base on this team. If Darren Rough, Austin Slater, Brandon Belt, Tommy Lost Ella and Wilmer Flores and Buster Posey all had first baseman's mitt. My question is spring training. The question is who doesn't get to play against the left? Which right handed batter you leave it out of the line up against the lefty. I got a place later. I gotta play. I probably Maurice here to bond for me to bond may be the one who he may be. He may be the only guy capable of going to shortstop because you really gonna trust a guy named Donny barrels to go play with the glove shortstop right now, after all the years he made last season. So what you're telling me is what these burning questions I've got No answers about that burning issue. This is this is back to your home. Which light up this better. We like it so funny, I think last year we spent all if we were doing this podcast one year ago today on February 11th, 2000 and 20. And by the way, what? We had no idea what was coming, right? Yeah, no idea. Exactly So the burning questions in February much different than the burning questions at the end of March, right? Yeah, I will say though I'm gonna counter you, and I think that the line up against right handed pitchers will actually be better because Tommy list l, a brain a belt, Mikey Stransky and Alex Dickerson those air for patient hitters. Those are guys who really complement each other. Well, I think that you know the phrase that the sum is greater than the whole of its parts. I think that is particularly true with that group getting with Stella in there. He's what you know gonna hit 2 70 to 80. Probably an O. P s around 7 50. You're not gonna get anything spectacular, but you will see the residual effect of his at bats and his plate appearances further down in the line of I think he just makes everyone else better. And so that's why I take the writers over the lefties. I think that's a really interesting proposition. And I think the power's definitely bigger with the left handed hitting lineup versus right handed pitching. I also do think Gabe Kapler will have an easier time transitioning toe left handed bullpen arms who come in to face That line up late in the game or in the middle of the game, because you'll have the ability to go to Austin Slater to go to Darren Rough to go to Don Solano off the bench. And if you've got those three guys to step in for your time, it was Stella's and you're Brandon Belts are probably not Mike, you scram ski. But if you plug in some of those guys, maybe Dickerson to face a lefty in that situation, Think of Ah, I don't know. In the past, you might seem like a Jake McGee coming in for the Dodgers to see that line up late now, Of course, he's a giant. But if you can plug in some of those guys to face the left handed pitcher, I think waiting the game your your ability to mix and match. Pretty good. I don't have the same confidence with the bench coming in against a right handed hitter late in the game versus a lefty. Yeah, I'm with you on that. So let's move on to our third pressing question. And this is something that I was doing Research for a story yesterday and I was counting all the losing seasons the Giants have had in their history and I was thinking, OK, When's the last time they've lost? You know they've gone under 505 straight years. So I start going back that that period from like 2006 to 2009 or whatever, you know it wasn't great, I think was 5 4000. That's right. That was four consecutive losing once and then I start to go back. You know, they have four consecutive losing seasons in in the seventies or eighties. There. Then you go back to the New York Giants three losing seasons here, the New York Jax were dominant for a long period of time. People forget don't sleep on the 1906 to 1910 New York giants Christy Mathewson. Was was incredible. But then you go back to the New York Gotham's, which was the team before The New York Times They still have not lost..

We are doing fine and we share your sentiment. You know what baseball's here? Let's go ahead and get it on. Unfortunately, it sure seems like When it comes to the National League, a specific in the National League West. We kind of know who the big dogs are gonna be the Dodgers and the Padres. But I don't think that's gonna make this giant season any less interesting and Intriguing is the rotation eyes that the not necessarily the biggest issue on this team, but is that something that really needs to be sorted out and hashed out in spring training and when we get answers when we get so once we get to opening day? I think it's certainly the biggest concern right now, Rod and you look at the rotation the Giants are planning around right now. It's Kevin Gosman, Johnny Cueto, Anthony DeSclafani, Alex Wood, and then a competition for the fifth starter job. And right now you look at that and say the front runner. Is Logan Web, but I would not be surprised at all if they added one more major league free agent Edition. Maybe swing a trade somewhere with using their excess infielder BOPE in depth and potentially signing two or three guys to minor league deals who can compete for jobs in the rotation like they did last year with Trevor Cahill. Thais Ross few years before that, with Derek Holland just because Go from 60 games to 162 games is a monumental challenge in itself to do it with the rotation. The Giants are trying to do it with where you've got a number of guys who are trying to come back from bounce back seasons or coming off of injuries. I mean, that is a really, really difficult task, not even to mention the division that they're in. Center field. I mean, they were rumored to be after Jackie Bradley Jr. He still hasn't signed. It Sounds like he wants maybe a four year deal or maybe a five year deal. I don't think I can't see them going that long with him with all the outfielders they have. In the pipeline. Where do you think they stand with Bradley? You think they're out? You think they're still monitoring? You think there's a chance? It seems like everybody's kind of blocking it and a long term deal for him. Yeah, I would imagine they're monitoring Larry. I don't think that anything is likely. And I wouldn't say that they're probably even in on Jackie Bradley Jr at this point, especially after the addition of Lamont Wade via the trade with Minnesota and trading Sean Anderson to get the left handed hitting center field prospects. But I think that they'll move forward with Tommy lost Ella being the left handed edition, the bath that they were talking about that they were looking for, and I think that list l A in the infield really does compliment some of their other left handed hitters. Well, you looked the lineup. They could have against righties. You have less Stella, you have Alex Dickerson, You have Mikey Stransky, Brandon Belt. That's a really tough quartet of hitters to navigate through and then in center field. I would say that Marie she had a bomb is probably the front the front runner to get most of the playing time there, but expect way to compete in spring training. Maybe Steven Duggar will find his way into the mix. He's still on the 40 man roster in a few years ago, the judge, we're very excited about him, and so I just think that center field is no longer as big of a priority because they did address that left handed hole in their lineup by adding less Stella. Carry. Which one of the young guy is, Uh, you are most likely to come up and play and get some games and some of bats or some endings this year. The really tough question to answer, Tom because all of the young or damn it answer. I can't answer it. Well, all the young really exciting guys gonna be playing in San Jose, it lo Wei and Eugene it Hi, eight this year, and so you're going to see Marco Luciano Hunter Bishop Louise to review you're gonna be hearing those names all season, but they're really not gonna have a chance to impact this Giants lineup if there was one guy Who I said by the middle of the summer or the end of the season. If he really had an opportunity, it would be Elliott Ramos. And, Of course, Joey Bart's going to be in the mix. We know that he'll probably start the season in Triple A, but eventually he's going to be in that tandem with Buster Posey. But Ramos is the guy who they're looking for. To make major strides. I'd say, probably double a triple A first half of the season. They have to add him. The 40 Man roster by the end of this winter, anyway, so you might as well take a look at him at the end of the year, particularly with the power production. He can give you to see if he can still be that premium center field prospect that they were hoping for when they first drafted him back in 2017. And so I think that hopes were pinned high on Ramos right now. We're talking Giants with Terry Crowley, who covers the Giants for the Bay Area News Group, a group led by the San Jose Mercury News. And they said that the eye the vision to only have one eye that one other guy played with one eye on the big leagues, a camera Bryza name, But they said that For, like, kind of like in close depth perception when they said the batteries make up their mind way before the ball gets to home plate, So he goes with one eye. He goes. That's not gonna affect that so much. So you know who's taking batting practice going out there and hit on the field? Uh, hitting the balls over the wall. Feeling good and you have the Giants are going to give him Because he was with the Giants. I mean, he was with the Giants. When he did this on the Giants are gonna give me a shot, and he's gonna You know, he's gonna be in in camp and e. I guess. Hey, talk to the Giants Giants team, and they just said it was an incredible story, Alex Dickerson said he I guess he played against him when they were younger, and he just said it was, you know, just sitting there listening to him, and I can't imagine. You know, listening to the story. I'm not I'm not doing it Justice by telling you guys this, but he can't imagine. Listen to him. Tell this story. But just the amazing part of you know a kid that on the outside, everything seems fine on the inside. It's not fine, and nobody knows that's the thing If anybody out there struggling with, like nobody knows. Tell somebody. You could be to shoot yourself in one side of the head and it goes out the other side. You end up end up living for close to damn 24 hours before you call 911. And now here he is in a baseball field again and And hopefully he can help. People hopefully can help people. And then there's nobody. There won't be rooting for this kid. I mean, it's just It's an amazing story. It's a long reed but did produce a favor and check it out it after trying to kill himself to have that then Moment of clarity to think. No, I'm supposed to live when he was contemplating doing it again and being successful with it to have that moment of clarity and to understand that moment of clarity. And to see that through and in the live through it. And then you know, come out the other side and there's you know, there's a bit of hope and optimism at the end of it. Yo, man this while that's the heaviest, wildest story I've ever heard in my life when they say, and there's some really There's some really No part. There's some really powerful parts of this is well in that. You know, One of his things that is discussed in this piece is that he battled with, you know, wasn't gonna make it or not, And did he want to give his His. You know his his wife? Ah, life of a minor league lifestyle, And he was like, literally that you could tell that that was like, Wait on him, And then you just wonder about The impact of the shutdown and the isolation of all that and how much that contributed to this, But it's a true tragedy, and it's a Zen incredible story. But he said he has the tools now like he goes. I have the tools now to handle this. I can I can you know, I still got a battle it sometimes and I write in the journal every day, and sometimes it's a paragraph. Sometimes it's one sentence. I just write something that In the journal But he goes I have tools now. So when, when something like that it comes upon me. I know what to do. Because like I can, I can you know I can. I can hopefully handle it, but I feel like I'm better equipped. Handle it. But he said, talking to people was like a huge, huge deal. Just tired out, doctor. Somebody cause a lot of families don't talk. Ah lot. I don't tell. You know, my dad wasn't a huge talk. We talked my mom. My mom's a talker, so we'll talk. Trevor Story's going to be a free agent. Not just a whole lot of great short stops and infielders and power bats and young guys coming up. But a lot of guys in the NL West that could either shuffle within the division or move outside of the division that could really have an impact on what happens with the powers that be as far as the Padres and the Dodgers go, so I'm also wondering like, Do you think the Giants and I assume they have like, looked at a couple of these guys and said, Like Corey Seager's Our number one option. You can pull him from the Dodgers or whatever, but also you're gonna have to fill out a rotation of five guys, you have no pictures under contract. As far as the rotation goes beyond this season, so first off the guy who stands out to me, picture wise Lance McCullers shinier because he's got that sensational curveball. Everything about his analytics profile screams. The San Francisco Giants like he is going to work with Brian Banister. I've already put Lance McCullers and a giant uniform for 2022, because I'm not confident that they're gonna have interest in him. Just totally unrestricted free agent. I believe I believe so. I believe so I have to go back and check because there is some arbitration stuff that makes someone unclear but He was on my list of guys who's like when he comes up when the time comes, put him in a Giants uniform because it makes too much sense. But you go back to the shortstop conversation. Obviously, this is the last year Brandon Crawford in a Giants uniform. We know far anxiety loves Corey Seager. We know he loves left handed hitters at premium positions that power can play it Oracle Park. We have seen it time and time again. The guy has popped balls into the arcade throughout his career. It has not hindered him hitting it Orca part him or Trevor story. You were weakening an opponent within your own division by going out inside in one of those guys. I just think that if the Giants going to target signing someone from this massive free agent class, those two are the guys who make the biggest difference and have the track record of performance in Oracle Park that would make them so fun and just foundational pieces for that exchange score. It is super tantalizing to think about, like one or two big free agent because I imagine like next offseason. This is where Scott Harrison and Farhaan they get the shopping. Clark. They start walking around like, Who do we want? It doesn't have to be bargain bin guys. What he said when he signed his deal because we're going to start to see these young guys this year. In theory, Alex Canario, you're gonna start to see I would hope Elliot Ramos at some point, maybe at the back end of this year. I don't know if Marco Luciano is going toe to sniff the bigs this year, But there's already I mean, he's in baseball. America's top 100 prospects already. So this is like you had one of these guys with all this young talent, the 100 bishops they're supposed to be here in the next 2 to 3 years. I think the Giants of a pretty intriguing young core called me a homer because I haven't checked But like you Sprinkle in one of these prospects air some of these prospects with one of these big name free agents. We're talking. That's the makeup for success, right? Yeah, absolutely. They're in a position to where, if three or four, these big prospects panned out two or three big free agent signings or big free agents come inside with Sam Biscoe giants 2022 2023 2024.
