"And I'm like, say, what? And then watching the races there has been incredible. We got a call or let's get right to it, Anthony. Go ahead. Yeah, so I've been looking at the playoffs standings and although deals for us is both the 8 ball. I don't think he'll be advancing around a 12. Due to how badly he's informed his role to spin out the schedule. Do you think he can possibly advance the round of 8? How about a DJ? Oh, I believe so. Just let's think back to Sonoma. I believe, and his road racing skills were put right there. And I think that as I've told everybody this year, anything that you look back and say, a driver was really good here or was terrible here. This race car has seemed to take that away from you. If you were good, it took it away if you were bad, it took that away. So it kind of puts you in the middle. All right, James, you only have a few seconds. Go at it. Hey guys. I wanted to ask between William Byron and Alex Bowman for a hundred motor sports that are below the cut line. Which one of those drivers do you think will have the best chance to win at the robo and advance to the round of 8? I think William Byron has a great chance, James. It's a great question. He's currently 11 below the appeal for his penalty of 25 points will be heard Thursday. There's a chance he gains some points. We'll have to just wait and see, but I think William Byron has found a way. I don't think it's going to be spectacular. I don't think he's going to be a race winning car, but they have found a way to just kind of be where they need to be, time and time again. If it wasn't for that penalty, they would be above. I expect them to claw back at the roval. Well, it's a lot on the line at the role of the role. I think it's the second hardest racetrack behind Darlington on the circuit. We know we're going to see race and it's going to be a lot of fun. I can't wait for you guys to join us. Remember, NBC, this Sunday and for the rest of the year. NBC. "Up on NBC on Sunday. So Kyle, here is a very different playoff sandy after Texas versus going to Texas, right? I mean, look out for our chase Elliott winning. Number one, seed down to 8. Look how much he lost in one single race. But you look at that and you look at Ross Chastain. You look at William Byron. We talked about him earlier and Denny. And 6 right there. They had to make something happen. You had to make something happen yesterday. They all felt like they did. This Alex Bowman came back out there and rode around all freaking along. And it was worth it. He picked up three or four positions, whatever he did. But those three or four points were worth it, and they'll pay off maybe as we get to the end. Remember the guys only missed the last round by one or two points. Very good point. Now let's go through the field from the Texas weekend, presented by eBay motors. We've just got a badass bass pro shop team on driving my ass off, but I'm having fun while we're doing it. And it's fun when you get to do burnouts and go get some waffles after, let's go, baby. We did what we had to do. We had to score a bunch of points. When we did that, put ourselves in the point lead, and still not comforting, but it's better than being for the back. Hindsight, I wish I wouldn't have let us, I was petitioning hard to pit. I was really loose and then of course we paid and then we were really tight at the last run there. So really good balance all day and all weekend and really just the last 50 laps maybe got off on balance loose and the tight, so a super uneventful day until then and so like I feel like I stubbed my toe a little bit there at the end. Managed our day really well. I didn't think we started off the day very good and we did a really good job of getting better throughout the day and as the night came, I thought we even got stronger. Actually the speed of the car was good, but the bottles just wasn't there. We saw the entire weekend to be honest right now I'm so exhausted you know the car was a handful. Well, it was a half. I'd say we didn't execute very well at all at the beginning of the race. That's a lot of cars throughout the day and then just get caught up in somebody else's mistake and takes you out of a top 5 top three maybe shot at a win. So nothing to show for it pretty upset about it. It's good to learn about the cut, but yeah, I mean we're plus 16. I feel like we could have been plus 34 or something at least, so potentially could have won the race. I think we had the best car. So we were by far the best and the track was hot. We got cooler out. I got loose and everybody seemed to get faster, so it was just harder to pass. I felt like we had a lot of speed in our room Camry to make a day out of it. And unfortunately, tires didn't work our way. Yeah, I ate it. I actually decent here for once, so that was nice while it lasted. You getting worried about tires for everybody else in the field too. I just don't know why it gets hurt, but outside that, I really don't care. That was through the field presented by eBay mutters. "Kansas comes to mind when Kurt Busch won. He had the fastest car that day and had they not screwed up on pit road, like three different times. I think the 23 wins to the 45, then you go to this race and he had great car and practice messed it up and qualifying started 30th. Worked his way all the way up to the top 5 or top ten somewhere in there. Pit crew ruins it again and then pick crew just continues to ruin it. And at the end of the day, it's his name on the line. It's why is he not performing? Why is he not getting top tens? And that is the thing, a guy like him is under such a microscope, especially with the people that are upset with the whole news thing and how that all went down and still are blaming him for whatever reason, even though he's not the one who founded it was a team member who found it. The F says that, yes, it was a news and people still blame him for some kind of craziness, some kind of conspiracy thing here. He takes a lot of flack, no matter what he does at this point. When the pit crews wasting away pit stop, or positions on pit road, that comes back and people will see he sucks. So it's just one of those things where he can't win unless he actually wins. Right. And if his pit crew is doing stuff like this, he can not win. Yeah, no, it's a big factor for sure. Let's get into other stories on the day for this race. William Byron, like we mentioned had issues soon after, they went back to green after one of those lightning strike cautions. Yeah, that's a bummer. It just looked like something broke on the car. Man, you hate to see that for William Byron because he had such a good start to the season. With the two wins early and it was like, man, this guy might be emerging as the guy and then now it's really cooled off. He and Alex Bowman for that matter have really cooled off as of late and have had a really rough start to the year. His teammate found some bad luck moments later pounded the wall hard after contact with Corey Lajoie and said of la joy. He's a great race car driver. So Corey Lajoie is coming out with the T-shirt now that says great race car driver. And so then Alex Bowman joked on Twitter during one of the delays that he's going to make his shirt with Corey Lajoie's text message apology to him. The battle of the t-shirts. Yeah, it's always good. Ty Dillon and chase Briscoe got tangled up and they both found the wall after that..

"Why? That's right. Collective grown. You can hear across the country when Kyle Larson took the lead there coming out of the pits. It was looking for another win. It's over. It's done. He did come up one spot short this particular week, but man, he is just a contender. Everywhere. Yeah, even when it doesn't seem like even what it looks like he's like 5th to tenth somewhere in that range, they still find a way strategy wise to get them up there. Yeah. And he's got belts that'll come off the car and they still figure out a way to replace it on pit road. There he wins races. So he's a guy that you can't really count out no matter where he's at no matter what the situation is no matter how many laps down he is, unless he's out of the race, you can't count them out. So Kyle Larson, once again, shows that that he had a chance to win this thing. But like you said, came up one spot short. Final pit stop of the race. Two tires turns out was the good call because Alex Bowman nabs yet another win on strategy. And here is Alex Bowman. I was really surprised on the front row there. You just have to run so much throttle. And we had been free on the short run, pretty good on the long run. But I mean, I kind of feel like I know. Obviously a lot changed with this race car. But typically, two tires tighten you up a ton and we're on old tires earlier in the day, like cold, old tires, when we have that pit road issue, we came back down and put old tires on. I was super tight the whole run. I was just worried that we're going to be way too tight, but at that point you're on the front row, you got to drive it like it's going to stick and thankfully it stuck. And then Hendrick now getting two of the first three races of the year. How do you feel as an organization? I mean, it seems like you guys are kind of like the first to really take off with this car. Yeah, I mean, I think the 18 and the 19 were better than us at the end. If the caution doesn't come out, I think I was going to get the one, so probably finished third. But yeah, I think Hendrick motor sports is the depth of people and how good each and every person is there. Pays off and we're here with a new race car that has completely changed everything in our industry. From how they work on it, how they build it, everything I touch is different. The pedals, the shifter, the steering. Obviously, it's paying off how good everybody is at HMS. And I think we're in a pretty good spot. Man, Alex Bowman. That's crazy. 7th career win. In stereo. Yeah. First in Vegas, 282nd for Hendrick motor sports..

"Going to have you give me an early prediction. Who do you think the champion is this year? I think Denny Hamlin, he breaks the streak. He becomes a champion, 46 wins as too many in the career without the big trophy. Chase Elliott's gonna repeat. I really do. I go to Denny Hamlin, I agree with Steve's top Denny Hamlin winner championship. We didn't get a chance here from DJ and KP. So who knows? Maybe one of them would depict cow Larsen. But is the guy with 9 wins? Maybe not top of mind for you and others because this is his first appearance versus the other three guys being returned championship four drivers. So I think as an analyst, my job is to look a little bit past the easiest pick, which is larger because he's one 9 races. But when saying that, it's because he himself has had set on occasions about how the chili bowl kind of got in his head a little bit. And his early cup years kind of got in his head. So he's done nothing this year to prove to me that that's an issue at all. But this is nothing like he's ever done. I'm sorry. It's just not. Now he could go there and lead every single lap. And I'd be like, yeah, not a shock. He's been that good all year long. I would have the same lack of surprise if he went there and was surprisingly mediocre. The third best of the four all day long. I know he's not gonna run tenth, right? But if he goes and runs third, and just say that he's learning so much, absorbing so much so quick. I mean, I'm willing to say Kyle arsen, oh, he's going to be a champion. There's no doubt. I just don't know if it's going to be 2021 or not. And I only go off his comma. You've heard him like he's like, yeah, the chili bowl kind of this, and I had to learn how to manage some of those final restarts and I equate that to what chase said. He's willing to say, I'm wiser. I've been there. Look forward to these opportunities. Like, you know, he's embracing the moment. Maybe a little bit more than I think Larson. I don't know. He's probably have a Kyle is that he reminds me a little of Jimmy, which is, I'm fortunate enough to know Kyle on and off the racetrack. And whether he's lining up for speed 51 at millbridge or on the grid for Martinsville, anything in between is literally the same guy. So that's where I'm like, okay, well then I didn't see what he was referencing. That some of these races kind of got into his head. So the fact that I couldn't read his cards, he's a great poker player, so I don't know. I don't know if the spot's going to be. I don't want to say it's too big. That's not the point. But will it feel different? Will there be small things he does differently or will he literally just strap the helmet on like he always does and goes and wins? Well, I think I'm gonna look it up right now. I believe he was the worst of the championship drivers in terms of finish. I think he was like 7th. The first time to Phoenix this year, all four of these guys, I believe we're in the top ten. Yes, Martin Turks junior one, ham one third, chase Elliot 5th, Kyle Larson 7th. And Keselowski was saying this week that because of the parts freeze because of the last year, the gen 6, he thinks that this Phoenix race could be a lot like the first Phoenix race. And is that a negative do you think for Cal Larsen that he wasn't as good as the other three guys the first time? Martinsville didn't look the same. Same parts freeze. I don't buy the whole parts for each thing. Yeah, you think. Everybody tells me it's frozen, but the key building brand new cars. Some don't add up. Like, yes, there are parts you can't improve on. Yeah. There's a lot of parts you can. Like, I think people don't understand how crew chiefs work. If you say, you can't touch your phone. Okay. What could I Bluetooth into it? When you say touch, like not allowed to touch the screen, could I tell Nate to touch? Could they read the rules like a lawyer? What if I touch the notebook underneath my phone on my phone moved? Yeah. Now did I cause my phone to move? So this part's free. Look, I don't think anyone's cheating. But if they think they all just went up, parts of frozen. Let's just go to the racetrack. No. That hasn't been 600 employees over here. Go back. Parts of frozen. Yeah. No. No way. Don't buy it. Just because Martin Truex Junior won the first race of Phoenix, does that mean he is necessarily overwhelming favor? Unless you're the Martin trex junior fan, that's what I hang my head on. Yeah. I mean, I say that jokingly, but it's true. You tell me who you want to support, and I can tell you why they should win and how they could lose. Isn't that what we should all hope? Nobody wants a 40 point favorite in the Super Bowl. Like, man, let's line them up. We start with Denny Hamlin, let's end with Denny Hamlin. Speaking of mindset, we're a driver is right now. Hamlin had some tweets last night that indicated, it sounds like he's already passed Martinsville he doesn't care to build things. He's more ready to win this thing than ever. His team's been ready to win this thing than ever..

"Hard to season. We just weren't fast enough. We were fast enough throughout the playoffs and then today kind of was another example of that. Yeah, right. I'm not discounting the effort they put in. I know they're working hard. It's just you want, you know, if you want balls and strikes, if you want black and white, it's the black and white of this is they have to be faster to contend, you have to be able to recover from stuff going wrong, and they are not fast enough to recover. Everything has to go right for them to advance. Definitely a numbers game, and the numbers say, as we look forward to Phoenix, that this championship four, they're the four best drivers. Noted NASCAR and NBC podcast listener bob pocri tweeted last night. Thanks to bob at Fox Sports that the top four lap leaders this year, Kyle Larson, chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin, and Martin Truex Junior. Those are your four championship drivers. Those are the four guys who led the most laps in the 2021 season. So this championship four as strong as one maybe that NASCAR has had since 2014? I think so. You know, some other weeks or years that we had some really good fours. But when I look at this one, I don't feel like I'm missing anyone. I do think you could put Kyle in there, bush, just because he's kind of, you know, just always moves the needle. But when you look at just pure argument, you tell me who you're a fan of and I can tell you how they win a championship. Oh, Kyle Larson would be his tenth winner of the year, great year. Oh, chase Elliott? Oh, well he's won one before, he's won out there he's a defendant cham. Oh, you like Denny Hamlin? He has 46 career wins. He's already won a couple times in the playoffs, could one last week got spun out. Oh, you like trucks? Well, he dominated out there in the spring. I got to make a storyline for all four of them. So I really believe what we're going to see and what I hope. What I hope more than anything is we just get the opportunity for the four to show who's best. My only nod in my stomach is there a 36 other guys on the racetrack and there's other things that have go on, we see cars stay on the pit. I'm not asking for them to pull over for those four. But let's not let's just understand let's not throw a Hail Mary if you're whomever. Don't race like Alex Bowman did against Hamlin. Advice here. I'm less concerned with that as I am, you know, don't leave, don't somebody stay out on old tires if those are four guys and take away somebody's lane choice. But we saw the Xfinity race of Martinsville. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. You know, don't put poor Spencer point in a bad position at that Martinsville race. Don't do that out there. Now, if you're faster, now I'm also going to say if you're the 48 of the 24 whomever and you're faster than the guy in front of you, go buy him. That's his fault. He's not fast enough. Don't race with mittens, as you say. Don't race with mittens, man. You've got to take the mittens off, but at the same time, be cognizant of where you are. Just understand. Like I'm fine if you go by them. To your point, the Alex Bowman thing, I would be disappointed if someone put themselves in a position to make an egregious enough mistake because I don't think anybody would do it on purpose. That could truly affect this outcome. It's all I'm kinda saying, right? Now if chase Elliott speeds on pet road and he gets caught up in a wreck for 11th, I don't want to hear about the mistake. The mistake was, why were you back there? My point is, if they do their part, and they're one two, three, four, one, two, three, 5, one, two, three, then they've earned the right to go get it. That's kind of my point. They have to do their part, show up, be fast qualify well, but if they do that part, man, you gotta kinda let them do it. It certainly feels like it's gonna be one of those years. Like 2019 or like last year, I don't know how many guys outside the top four or the championship four lead. It felt like it was just it reminds me of the Phoenix race, not the championship race. The Phoenix race where Denny Hamlin had to pit for gas, 2010. Yes. That's what I'm expecting. I think we're all four wide restart. I don't think so. I think I'm going to drop the green with 70 something to go and everybody's going to be like, all right, and someone's going to get control of the race and it's going to come down to everything needed. Good enough, fast enough, manage fuel, manage. I don't know. I just think it's going to be way more way more that style. Because in that race, and that pretty much cost any ham on the championship in 2010. It wasn't they didn't have the fastest car, it was that he had the wrong carburetor in terms of fuel efficiency and they just had to pit early. So that's my prediction. I just feel that this is way more than just line up and have a restart with ten to go. I don't buy it. On the post race show, you said you were really struggling to handicap this, that there's no favorite dead he can't what you've been saying. But I thought it was interesting when Rick Allen did ask you and Burton and Dale junior to make your predictions. Okay, so now we have these.

"And that's real. Someone who elevated himself on Sunday, despite a very chaotic afternoon, Martin Truex Junior and I was just going back before we got started here, Stevie trying to recreate, make sure I had all the lap numbers right. Everything that happened to Martin Truex Junior over the final 54 laps of this race starts with this weird situation between Kozlowski and Elliot, where Kozlowski's trying to go around and it seemed like they got their signals crossed on Elliot it was maybe trying to give them the outside and it's because they didn't realize it. Anyway, Truex makes contact at that point with Keselowski and really damages his left front and put his tire in a spot where it looked like you were saying it on the broadcast that there was huge debate there about whether they should pit or not. Let's just start there. How does that tire survive that impact and survived all that sheet metal? Yeah. Fortunately, we're just lucky and just luck. Just fortunate that it bent a certain way and not another way. You know, when I look at Truex, I would love to get his opinion, whether he mismanaged the last 50 lasts. I think it started a couple before that when he went three wide down the back stretch. Was that needed? Now I realize, listen, you got a race, you're trying to win. And I get all that. And like I said, I'm not in line. I want to get his opinion. Because Jeff Burton's pretty strongly was like, that was a move that was unnecessary. He didn't have to go through why there he could have done all of those things. Now in the end he advanced, but there are a lot of water under the bridge in those last 50 laps, no doubt. Yeah, he made that move where he went underneath Kozlowski and Bowman on the outside of keslowski. And essentially forced Bowman to back out and put Keselowski, the guy he was really worried about in terms of points, put him in a better position and slip back and then to X had the situation where we ran an Almirola. He hit the wall. They had some moments there, and you said Stevie on the broadcast that trucks is crew chief James small. He's either going to be a genius or not. Whether they pit or not at that point. And I guess it turns out he's a genius. Yeah, right. Is it just that simple sometimes for crew chiefs when you have to make that call on whether you pit or not? No, I think in the end, you say, how would I rather lose? I've asked myself that question a lot. If it goes bad when I'd rather go bad because I pitted or I'd rather go bad because I didn't. And sometimes that's the question you have to ask yourself. You know, I just think that this team, you know, I don't know. There's a lot of chip Ness on the radio, and it's an interesting dynamic this group because they're fast and they run well, and they do all those things, but and I love James small. I think he's really, really smart. But I don't know. There's something about that group. There's something calming that doesn't exist anymore or I'm not sure what it is. But in these stressful situations, their radio makes me more stressful. Maybe that's how they want it to be, but I'm like, man, I'd have to make some adjustments to this because it is a little more chaotic than I would prefer, but I'm not on the team, so it's not my deal. That's their second season together and they haven't really been tested like this before. This will be their first championship round. There's gonna be tested on Sunday I'm gonna tell you. They certainly are. I want to get to Phoenix preview but before we get there, I want to touch really quickly on Penske. Surprise you at all that three guys coming around of 8 and they end up with zero in the championship for the first time, by the way, also that Ford won't have a car in the championship four. Blaney certainly looks solid until the accident of Kansas. And then he was still only a point out coming in. And as he put it, it was just a mystery. He was a head scratcher how poorly.

"That spot. Now we see non playoff drivers there. Dale junior and I won, there's a non playoff driver. But we were never in a position to never race anybody where we had to contend the spot. We had a little new tires by Tony Stewart. Matter of fact, Dylan, I had this conversation on the ride home. Jeff Gordon was closing. And Dale said, one reason why I went by Tony with such force. By flaming by the way, is because I knew my teammate. Needed to win this race to advance. And if he got to my bumper and moved me, I had no recourse. I knew he didn't say if he passed me. He said, if he got to my left rear and sent me up the racetrack with two to go with the playoffs on the line, he was like, yeah, what's Rick gonna say? He's like, that man, he's in the playoffs. He's trying to move forward, like, you were the guy he had to get around? Like that would have been, quote, acceptable. So we raced knowing he can not get to our left rear. Flip that, right? Now, a non playoff guy drove with such tenacity to win a race, not his first career win, not as first of the year. His fourth win of the year, I don't want to discount the specialness of a win because it's huge. And I want them to race for wins. But that's the question in my mind. He drove so far into the corner that he lost control of his vehicle and wrecked a playoff guy. I'm confident Alex Bowman didn't know if he was good on points or not good on points, like he didn't know any of that. Now fortunately for Denny Hamlin, he was, but what happens if he wasn't? One happened if that would have been the move that limited for playoffs, would people have a different view? Same action different result when people have a different opinion. Those are all the things I question, right? There's a lot that goes into these decisions. Well, Alex Bowman felt as if he was justified because ham wanted taken him out at Texas the previous year and apologized for it. So he's like, hey, the shoe's already been on the other foot. And he also felt because the lab four 78 restart, Bowman took the lead after getting into him a little bit. And then just you guys said on the broadcast, I think, Burton was like, oh my God, he's getting over. He was Dale junior said it just he'd pulled out of the way and let Denny.

"And he still can't drive. We got him. We do what we had to do, but like I just wanted to race there at the end and just, you know, he's just terrible. You know, we talk about all the time. We want drivers to show their emotion. Obviously, Denny Hamlin was very displeased, showed his emotion after that race by preventing Alex Bowman from doing his victory burnout. Were you okay with what you saw from Denny Hamlin? I didn't love the altercation on the front stretch for more than the reasons I think everybody assumes. It's not so a little bit is, I believe, hey, the winner is the winner, and you have to kind of respect whether you completely disagree with how he got there. It's kind of this moment that the person has earned per the NASCAR rule book. They claim human as a winner. The second part of perhaps more importantly for me is I think his actions in the race car diminished his actions in front of the microphone. And I believe that Denny, when he got out and said what he said about Alex, I actually don't feel that was a motion fueled. I think that was a calculated Denny Hamlin, giving your opinion about another race car driver he drives with that in Denny's opinion. He isn't as talented as his teammates, which is amazing, thinking he has four wins this year, but I'm just going off what Denny said. Me reading Denny's comments. He doesn't feel he's as good that he felt like he got wrapped not on purpose, but it felt like he got wrecked because the guy didn't have enough talent to not reckon. I mean, that's kind of how I read his comments, right? It's a hack job. That isn't, you know, that jerk wrecked me. That's not what he said. He said it's a hack job, which basically, you know, if me and you or golfers and I say you're a hack, that means you're not any good. Man, don't play with Nate. He's a hack. He can't hit the golf ball. It's not fun. When you call someone a hack, that tells me that you say you don't have the talent to try to do or to justify what you're trying to do. Those are the words that I expect Danny. That's how I take what he was trying to tell me. The problem is, after the shenanigans on the front stretch, I'm kind of like, does people rather even listening to what he has to say? Right. That's why I wish that wouldn't go on. I wish it was done because I love sports. I love rivalries and I love disagreement and we don't have to agree on which side we're on, and I think he has every right to say whatever he wanted to do and you can liken boo cheer. That's not the point. He has every right to say it and I think that was diminished because of what happened on the front. So you love the emotion, just save the emotion for just the interview. Don't necessarily do it in the front stretch and unconventional. I'm going to stop your burnout stop your celebrations. Yeah, I mean, there's a lot that goes into it, right? And there's a burnout interview. There's people in the front stretch. I'm not gonna defend any of it. I've never been a race car driver, so I don't know what it's like to sit in there and how they see this car as an extension of themselves and they feel it's fine to put this whatever. That's their business. I Denny Hamlin in his race car on the front stretch is Denny Hamlin, the race car driver. Danny Hamlin out with his helmet off camera in front of him, face on screen is a NASCAR superstar. The fan can relate to the driver they can see. The fan can't relate to the guy behind the wheel. So I think for the good of the sport and for the good of the fans, get out and say it. It's kind of like sometimes I feel like drivers behind the wheel are kind of like people behind a keyboard. It's a lot easier because you've got a helmet on in your hidden. When you're willing to take all that comfort away and double down on your comments, those resonate more with me. So let's talk about what Hamlin said and ask, I want to frame this in the most respectful way possible to Alex Bowman, but ask if Denny Hamlin has a point. And what I mean by that is I'm not saying Alex Bowman didn't deserve to win this race. He had a very fast car. He put himself in position to win it. But a lot of people I saw on social media were asking, you know, why didn't Denny Hamlin just allow him more room? And I think Jenny Hamlin's answer is I did allow him more room. Like I was watching the replays this morning, it looked like he gave him a lane, maybe lane and a half for a few laps there, and then when Alex Bowman made the move, he couldn't hold the bottom, he slid up and he took out the 11. Does Denny Hamlin have a point to some degree that Alex Bowman didn't make the past the way a driver should make that pass? So he didn't. And I don't think he made the past the way he intended to make the pass. So yeah, he did say that it wasn't until my analysis of what I saw on the racetrack as a guy who's never driven Martinsville, but watched, we'll call it tens of thousands of laps there. Denny Hamlin races Martinsville with the scalpel. Pre calculated what he does and where he puts his car. Reminds me a lot of Jeff Gordon, who I was fortunate enough to win there. I've seen him do it. I believe that Danny gave Alex Bowman an ample amount of room to race with reasonable contact for a race win. I think Alex Bowman lap after lap after lab was unable to make the pass and eventually purely a mistake that over the limit of his car under braking, car gets loose. You have to turn right and that carries them up into Denny. He spends Dany out. So it's really, I don't think there's a debate on what happened. The debate is, is it okay for a non playoff driver? To take his car to such a limit that he can cross over and rec a playoff guy or any driver for that matter. Where is good hard racing? Is it, you know, like he didn't hit him in the rear bumper. He didn't reckon. On purpose, but he recked him. So it wasn't malicious, but does it make a difference? If the result's the same, I mean, that's really the question. Everybody has come up with their own answer. I don't have an opinion on it. I mean, it's fascinating to me. I believe in my heart 5 years ago, a non playoff driver does not contend that spot. By flaming.

"alex bowman" Discussed on NASCAR on NBC

"All right, welcome to the NASCAR NBC podcast. I'm your host Nate Ryan. Back here with another post race edition of the podcast at the Charlotte NBC sports studio with Steve lut just back from Martinsville speedway, calling the round of 8 finale, Stevie, thanks for returning the podcast. Good to have you here. Man, it's always fun to join what I consider one of the marquee races of the year. I know it doesn't have perhaps the history of the southern 500 and so on and so forth. But this is a must watch must attend event. Anybody who's listening and you need to buy a ticket to Martinsville next year, the place was electric would only makes it better. So the track delivers the stars deliver, but the fans made it even that much better. And I think it's going to continue to build. Yeah, they have their biggest crowd there in 5 years, according to track president clay Campbell. And once again, the last 60 laps of this race just did not disappoint. I don't know if the desperation just stems from the atmosphere of the playoffs if that's just created this intensity, but let's just start there. Why do you think is it just the moving this race to the finale and making this the cutoff race for the championship? Because it was a great race, obviously, when it was the lead off race of the last two years, I feel like it's taken off a little bit more intensity somewhere. Well, there's more on the line. I mean, the close you get to Phoenix the more comes on the line, anybody who thinks that is crazy hasn't watched the playoffs. And there's not a second chance behind it. So it becomes much more final as you close to the finish of that race. And, you know, there's something to be said to go somewhere. So Talladega is the great equalizer because the draft diminishes the value of horsepower and aerodynamics and allows the smaller teams or the less funded teams that have a chance. Good cars are still good bad cars are still bad, but the window of the two shrink. Martinsville is much the same. Horsepower still matters and handling still matters. But I believe the driver has his hand in it as much as anywhere. He can make a good car bad, a bad car good, crew chiefs can make cars. How many times you see a bad car all day, just be a bad car? Well, Martinsville, good cars, bad cars. They kind of change and we don't need to run a 140 miles an hour to let these guys really show their emotion. And I think there's something to be said for a reasonably slow speed. So they're going slower here than any track we go to yet they're not in any more control. And that's the key. I had this argument with somebody today, said, well, you know, Kansas, they're going faster, so they're more out of control. I disagree. I think under breaking at Martinsville is perhaps as out of control as you are at any race track you go to because to be good, you have to take it all the way to the limit. And man, I don't know, it's just great. It is, look, it's my favorite track, so I could talk for hours about Martinsville. It is my favorite track on the circuit for all the reasons we just discussed right here. And I think it's a great race every year. My favorite track as well. And I think you're right. Drivers taking the limit, Kyle Petty said on the post race he felt like this was the best race of the year in terms of that last 50 laps. We saw a lot of drivers Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, Alex Bowman, and Denny Hamlin. Martin Truex Junior championship caliber drivers all taking it to the limit. And we saw a lot of things happen. So let's get some time. Let's get to all of it. Let's start with Denny Hamlin and Alex Bowman. And we were just talking about before we got started here, Stevie. Alex Bowman wins the race by taking out Denny Hamlin and Hamlin shows his displeasure.

NASCAR Playoff Pulse: Analyzing the Field After Richmond

"Opening up the nascar cup series season with three wins in the opening. Twelve races martin. True ex junior went through a long dry spell when the weather warmed up. Well he's got his mojo back again. Winning the playoff race at richmond ending his summer slump a lot of tough lock and auto crashes and got caught in the rain a few times and some crazy things happen too so i felt like we brought goodspeed all summer. We had good cars for the most part other concrete tracks. Really kinda whipped us. But you never know how things are gonna go to x. Now joins teammate denny. Hamlin is around one winner. Who's locked up a spot in round two. Also clinching on points. Kyle larson trying to be one of the other nine drivers who are going to move on chase. Elliott is currently ranked seventh and fortunate to finish fourth at richmond following a problem pitstop when the reigning champ thought he had slid through his pit box so i just kind of took it upon myself to back up. Tj already hit the right side. Jack and at that point. I should know not to but obviously i wouldn't have broke the jack if i knew it was going to break the jack so i just didn't want to stop over the line. I thought that was just gonna make problems even worse so try to be cautious. Ended up hurting us. Worse after problems. At both darlington and richmond. Alex bowman is currently tied on the cutoff line. With kurt

"Right i guess. We'll wait and see. Check out all the short-track action from richmond saturday night. Seven thirty pm. Eastern on nbc. Let's get to drivers raging at richmond. All right ragion and there is alex bowman right topping the list. He's got one win. One top five two top tens and his average finish back when he raced for crap teams. Twenty one point five. Yes he's got a lot of that To rebound from the rest of career but How about kyle larson one of the guys. That's kind of a threat to win each every week. He has a wind up this race. Track two top fives. Five top tens an average fetch twelve point. Two radka slavsky has to win six top fives. Twelve top. tens in his average finishes twelve point. Three that's pretty good How about curb ish. His two wins of this race. Track seven top five fifteen top tens average french fifteen point two. Then you've got martin tricks junior to wins in a row. Seventy five thirteen top tens and a sixteen point nine average finish. The average finishes are kind of starting to work their way back down to earth here. These next ones are good. All right now denny. Hamlin winner last week at darlington finally got off the snide looking to become a championship. Favourite three wins this race. Track fourteen five. Eighteen top tens an average. Finish of nine point. Oh and he was also a contributing factor to one of the most infamous finishes and richmond. History were bush dumped dale earnhardt. Jr. in two thousand eight i remember that had been for denny hamlin who cut a tire instead stayed on the track pacing around several laps and then finally caution. That's what set up that crazy finish. Wasn't that the. I think it was the ot. They had wings wings now. That's why red bull left nascar because we no longer had wings right. Maybe got rid of him. Bye And so will everybody will come in and take advantage of our third yellow flag of the day and that stage as it wore on, was dominated by Kyle Busch, who had 67 laps in that run dug at the end of that stage, Kurt Busch waved the white flag. And he was You know what? 20 car lengths back. Everybody else was almost a half mile. I mean, these two really stretched away from the rest of the field. And I think what we're seeing today, Mark amplified our these teams trying their best not to go over the edge with tire wear everybody, I I feel like a soft pedaling to some extent. Well dug. They saw what happened here in March, where Kyle Larson. Everybody thought you and I included had the race locked up and again the tire wear Took it away. Pit road is open and it's about to get very busy. Doug Turnbull certainly is. Kyle Larson's team is the first one in on pit road. They're going to work just on the balance of the race car and not make wholesale changes from the seventh position. Third place runner Denny Hamlin in front of me Now they're going to go for Goodyear Tire Sunoco fuel A tear off has taken off of the number 11 working tight conditions in a chassis adjustment there tight conditions, both side of the track. Alec of Ana Alex Bowman drove all the way up to third place but gave up a spot right at the end. Finish that stage in fourth. They're going to put some more tape on The grill to help it turn just a little better. He is on and off pit road. His Hendrick teammates. Similar story just needs to loosen it up for William Byron Bretton. Kyle Busch. Great stop so far the around the left side wipe off the grill. He pulls out 14.3 seconds. He was happy with the car, said he needed just a little bit helping the Highline because that's what Kurt Busch like running. Meanwhile, Kurt Busch spin in that, he said, the car was a little bit tight towards the end of that run. What to be loosened up some, so they took some air pressure out. Kurt Busch, though, will win the battle off of pit road. Kyle Busch comes off second, he loses a spot. Denny Hamlin, then Alex Bowman hold on to 3rd and 4th and Tyler Reddick fifth off the pit lane. So nice pit Stop there for Kurt Busch to come out. Take the lead away from little brother and we'll see how this plays on the restart should be fairly exciting. And we're looking at a little bit of video here of the right front tire that came off Chase Elliott and Marc Ayrault. That thing is used up. It looks ugly and again. "Something like that but man. Were you even watching. Because i texted you and i said holy ass and so i had a lot going on once that started happening and i forgot to respond to you. I was like wow. It must be out with his kid or something. I mean this was just insane going into the race. Cal arts and three straight wins on point paying races. He also on the all star race. If you want to count that that's four zero calling for another one tried. All he could to get around his teammate. Alex bowman towards the end of this thing. It looks like the aerodynamic package was too much to overcome. Larson finally gets around him with three to go. And it's like oh my gosh. Here he goes. He's got this it's over and it wasn't to be no i mean. Heartbreak is is an understatement of the year for kyle larson who He was one turn away. And there's only three of them to begin with well and he was in the turn riots so midway into turn three from his fourth win in a row. I mean he could see the checkered flag. It's like you know three nimitz aircraft carriers away way out there but i mean it have put them in the history books. I'm sure you have the stats on it. That he would have been amongst legends of the sport right. Five car ultimately pounds. The wall hard Putting him into a backup for the sunday race he ends up finishing ninth. Which is still kind of amazing. Yeah and so for the sunday race. They invert the top twenty and then everyone who his twenty first through thirty eight thirty nine th whatever it was this week they get those yeah starting spots but of course if you go back up car you go to the back which is not ideal at pocono. because you're like four nimitz class aircraft carriers behind exactly. So you're hoping that point right. And then of course his teammate. Alex bowman swoops in snags. The win his third. This season.

"He said you have to decide what your code is and you have to live by that and you build your the way you do things around that code and and that was great advice like you know what your limit is. He's an as an owner. I'm gonna push you. There's going to be times. When i think you need to change your code and there were there were times. He told me you. Just wrecking you know what. I mean over time and i didn't want to and i didn't know you know what i mean. But he would lean on me to to do things that got me out of my comfort zone. That was his role as an owner but but he has directed to me. Was you have a code and you live. And that's what i always try to do. And i think that's what most drivers that code sometimes can end you in the nascar. Hauler darlington with rushing. Buddy hand different. I mean what. I think is acceptable. Somebody else doesn't. There isn't a rule book that says this too personal opinion a lot of its personality. I mean honestly. I stand and somebody the other day i can about talk to a driver for thirty minutes thirty minutes and tell you what kind of driver he's gonna be fascinating personality. It's it's it's it's just who you are in casual conversation can pick up. I know this guy is going to move somebody or not. I can get a pretty good idea. Yeah i can get a pretty good idea. That's that's fascinating. So unfortunately kyle larson lives by his co. jeff and then with half a lap to go his tire comes apart and unfortunately cost him a fourth straight points victory in nascar fifth straight week of being in the winter circle. This was weird to me. Because i reminded me immediately. I don't know if you remember this race but there was a race at pocono. In two thousand where mayfield. Germany mayfield is leading on the last lap. Had the same thing happened. Tire came apart got passed by his teammate. At the time rusty wallace you finished second time. I don't know if it's the size of the racetrack. Or what but is there is there more debris that can result in higher end up. Run like i. I suspect i suspect. I don't know. I suspect that that was the left. Front tire went down. I suspect that was just how rough the racetrack is. Low air pressure running real low through the tunnel turn puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the sidewall. The tire early in the run after they came out with new tires on. I suspect that car at target damaged early in the run. I'm speculating. i'm told not to speculate right. But we also heard we also heard report. I think from from marty. I can't remember who it was said. They did indeed take a little bit of camber out before the race on on sunday. So you know they probably had it on their mind to just from experience knowing that those flat racetrax that you really want that left front tire to work tons of kamran it and those bumps they can damage the wall that tire. So i suspect that's what that was but again i don't know that. Yeah yeah and the team took a look at it and our good year is gonna do a postmortem as well. I mean don't know how you do postmortem on something that goes around the racetrack mile racetrack kind of destroyed. By the time it gets back but from what they could tell. It wasn't where it looked like alex. I mean for for cow. That was certainly i mean. Here he is going to put his name in the record. Books with a. Who's who list army. Holy moly and that list. And i'm like that's a hell of a list and it didn't work out but i think a lot of people look at that race and they say well it's moment got lucky and he did but alex bowman did a hell of a job of putting himself in position to win that race and i don't think he's getting enough credit for that you know with this choose rule. He went he made a decision. I don't remember who is third i. It was fourth and there's been so many races head now you know. I can't remember who is third but who was third had the opportunity to take that inside line. They didn't they lined up. They were in third position. They lined up the outside car. The third row. Alex bowman went to the front and took the lead in. Turn one visit it again. The next day to did it again on sunday. So alex bowman said okay. Y'all wanna give me this. Yeah i'll take it and joe that thing down in there. It turned got to do everything you need to do. Got the lead and now he's controlling race and he held the hottest driver in the sport right now the best team in the sport right now. He held them off for a long time. Did a great job. I think in fairness to alex. We shouldn't forget that. He put himself in position by bold move and executing and yeah. He got lucky but if he if he doesn't do that it doesn't execute and he's he comes out of turn one you know like most people did on the bottom. They came out of turn one in third fourth fifth grade in that race. But that move is what won him the race and we shouldn't forget that we should just say. Oh he got lucky. He put himself in position in case. Something happened to win that race. I'm going back through my notes. I'm glad you brought up the. Because i was going to touch on that. I think it was the twenty four. Maybe i should know that. But i i've since watched to other races and i it's foggy but i shouldn't have as well but yeah it kind of all blurs together but you're right. I mean another example of how the choose rule. Those restarts really can affect things. Said bowman said yeah. I'll take a flyer and it almost all it did work out for him. Didn't work out former cal past him but like you said when it didn't but but when he left her and he's like go into ray right like i mean he you know before the before and he wasn't imposition winner race and good for him. I mean listen. I love i love. Step up moments. I absolutely love when a driver. A team anybody sports steps up at the key moment that's was sports are about right like the clocks on and down. You gotta make something happened. And that's what he did. Give me the ball. Give me the ball. I want it and he took it. And i love the stuff up moments and and he didn't have the fastest car he maybe. He wanted to drop a collar. I don't know they clearly weren't as fast but he put himself in position to win a race. And i love the made a statement. Coming off of he was not very good at nashville on a weekend. When larsson and byron. I think chase until that problem toward the end. They all random nashville moments coming up. He signed a two year extension nashville. And there's all this attention and then they weren't very good during the rates so you're right like for him to sort of seize. that moment was probably very important. The ready i heard the radio on siriusxm this morning. I heard a radio and greg abbott coochie. When he alex apologize. Hey guys i'm sorry. Ask tight there on the last lap. When he thinks he's going to finish he's like don't not is racist and then he's like i told you he's like keep on apologize. You know what i mean. That was awesome. There was know people working together like somebody's got to raise the other guy up every now and then and that was an opportunity where he was like look never quit. Never quit and i love that interaction. I know they got lucky. But they deserve credit for what they did and they should be taken away or they were definitely and like you said right place right time. And that's been true for a lot of the hendrick motorsports cars recently and obviously racing won at pocono. They were still class of the field and This was a little bit of an interesting discussion last week. Jeff scott miller vice president competition at nascar went on siriusxm after kyle victory at nashville last week and said some interesting things. He basically said nascar would be scrutinizing hendrick even more intently and there was some garage chatter. I think it's fair to say last week. That hendrick might have changed. Its cars heading the pocono because nascar had said to them. Look like scott. Miller said on the record publicly on siriusxm. We're going to be scrutinizing you more closely and jeff andrews journal. Hendrick Motorsports Nears Petty Win Record After 1-2-3-4 Result

"Hendrick motorsports the first one two three four finish for hendrick in its team history. Only the fourth time in cup history. That's been done in the first and the cup series since rosh benway racing team. You have some knowledge of two thousand five at the season finale at homestead miami speedway so just to give you a little context henrik has only been a four car team since two thousand and four so i one two three four finishing essentially seventeen years. I that they've been able to do that but you know what's your first reaction to that. When you hear the hendrick motorsports for the first time ever in what thirty. Seven years of history has a one two three four finish. Well i think about is two years ago when we were talking about. What's wrong with hendrick right. And we we. We had this expectation level of hendrik. That's pretty high. We expect to see them contending for championships winning the lottery to me to me. In the era that i raced in hendrick was the most dominant team out there and that faded faded over time and it was. They didn't jump right back into it. They had to work themselves back into it. And now here they are and they also invested you. Think about what they did. They invested in a lot of youth right so took brought a lot of young drivers and that has cultivated into a very young team with a lot of winners on it heading into right direction. This is the opposite of what we were talking about. Two years ago. I think hendrick motorsports is repositioning themselves to be dominant force. They won the championship last year. We chase elliott now chase elliott. That hasn't wanna raise this year and alex bowman's want to i know chase elliott fans. Think well that's not good but it is good if the guy that won championship you last year is the guy. That's not winning this year and everybody else has stepped it up. That's a good thing. Now they've chase elliott rezoning twentieth every weekend. That what that's not chase elliott's running okay. He's not been winning expecting to do. But but that's a good problem for a team to have. It's almost impossible to have all four clicking. You know what i mean. It's really really difficult. But i just i just i think a reversal of where we were two years ago. That's the first thing that pops in my brain

"Year old Hendrick Motor Sports driver William Byron captured his second NASCAR Cup series win yesterday at the Homestead Miami Speedway, winning the Dixie Vodka 400 firing letter race High 102 of the races 267 Labs and beat second place finisher Tyler Reddick to the line by 2.7 seconds. Claim that checkered flag, not a lot of great people around me. Keep me pushing and we had a great offseason to prepare. My Rudy's come in and done a phenomenal job, and he knows how to how to push the right buttons with me and you know, I know exactly what he means when he says that, so I just had to go to work, and luckily we had enough car there. At the end behind Byron and Reddick were Martin Truex Jr. Kyle Larson and Kevin Harvick completed the top five. Six through 10 went to Michael McDowell, Ryan Newman, Kurt Busch, Alex Bowman and Kyle Busch. After three races firing joins Michael McDowell and Christopher Bella's drivers locked into the playoffs following their wins the prior two weeks and Daytona NASCAR Cup series heads out West this coming weekend to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"Once again. Alex bowman welcome back to the program. Yeah thanks for having me all right over your shoulder here. It smelling pretty good. It's it's looking pretty good You got in and out burger there for lunch yet. Not for me for the guys. Yeah my my trainer would kill me. he doesn't know that i had a double double animal style fries and a chocolate shake yesterday when i landed. So we're just not going to tell them that but but today since odds are he's going to walk in here Not gonna eat that. Well you know this is broadcast and online and so he might find out some other way. Yeah we'll just we'll just send it and hope hope he doesn't all right. I noticed that they tony. You had like an all white fire suit. How do you keep that thing clean. You don't yeah that was That's tough valvoline. paint scheme. looks so good firesuits. Look really good I think all white looks really good. It's just so hard to keep playing I think they have a couple of primaries this year so only got to make them last a couple of races but It is tough there destroyed after one race They wanted me to do that for chili bowl. And i said no way Cj who drives my car he he got an all white suit for chile will and it was destroyed after after practice. Pretty much so It is as tough for sure. The first thing. I thought of as that would not work in the days of thunder days. No for sure stuff used to get the pair used to move through the cars. So much more i mean. The cars were cooler inside because of it. Actually but i mean those guys would get so dirty back in the day. I just because there was so much more moving air and everything was sealed up how it is now. But now they're like They're sealed up pretty tight. Except for when i went through the grass i had grass everywhere so That firesuits probably half green at this point. But that's all right. Put mountain dew on that part of it. Yeah yeah if if they wanted to be on eighty eight car for sure. We're halfway there. You did a panting of matt benedetto. I saw it online. You can't get away from it but props to him. He kept the interview going yeah. He's not a very shy human being so it's one of those things we mess with each other. A lot and i did not continue the interview. I was very distracted by it. What happened and what was going on. So that was my way of getting him back so i'm really not looking forward to what comes next knowing him but i'm sure it'll be something i was gonna ask you. Expect retaliation probably It's fun to make fun of matt. you know. He drives for that other manufacturer. But he's still just went and bought a another corvette so We know he's at least got good taste and yeah he's he he just bought another is the are one. But you know. I saw the other day. And you know how corvettes have four taillights he. He had somebody take the tail lights out to like put tent on them. And like put different spoiler on the car. And they didn't tighten the bolts out one of the bolts up and one of the tail lights fell out going down the road. So that's embarrassment. He's got good taste in cars but yeah it's a little bit nursing. What what are you driving personally. No one of those. Yeah so he's actually copying me. He's got the same cars me now. He's he was going to buy the same wheels that i had on my car so i just sold him my wheels about something different. So we weren't matching but yeah you should go ask him about it because it's literally he's copying me. That's that's definitely interesting. Go out there and race. Yeah mine still going to be mine. Still gonna be faster though. So i mean it's obviously got the better driver so it's all driver of course nothing under the hood for sure now. Last time we spoke you were still working out the intricacies of assigned seating at movie theaters. Is there anything else technology wiser in two thousand twenty. That's baffling you I don't think there's been anything yet. I'm sure. I'm sure there will be that movie. Theater incident was largely embarrassing. Pretty sure i'm never going on a date ever again. After that that was that was a struggle But yeah nothing yet. I feel like something will definitely pop up and confuse the heck out of me and all embarrassed myself with it but nothing yet. Truth be told seventeen years. I've been doing this. This is the first time using my phone for notes. I used to use paper mainly because it was lighter. So i'm still getting into the tech stuff too. Yeah yeah there you go. I mean yeah. It's forever changing. Who would think that you have assigned seats at a movie theater. That there's twelve people and it just didn't make any sense. If i were just gone gone up one more row. Adam and just fine definitely definitely definitely all right so you got a bunch of sponsorships onboard this year. How do you keep track of them. All highest kelsey. What's on the car this week Yeah figure out what shirts to bring. And and i mean it's it's written on my chest on the firesuits so i guess i could just look down and figure it out but no it's it's been really cool to have some new partners on board obviously We have this week and chevy goods dot com and everybody. That's going to be out for the rest of the year. Really excited about all that so It'll be neat. I think the black and gold car looks really cool so looking forward to seeing that on the race track. Lamar looks good to its new paint scheme for them so it only looks a little bit similar to the valvoline paint scheme. Just a little bit. But but that's all right. That's that's that's a good luck to you once you're inside it kind of looks the same right. Yeah yeah you can't see it from From where i sit. So i'm here for it. Do you ever bring the wrong stuff to the track. Not recently so when i was driving for junior motorsports We had a couple of different sponsors on the car throughout the year. We went somewhere in. Dave ellen's was the crew chief and really all the sponsors were the same color scheme but he wore the wrong shirt like the race day shirt. He warned completely wrong. One week kelsey did my pr over there. as well. and i thought she was gonna kill him so It was it was a good day for sure with sports. Exploding ni- racing and that's something that you're interested in and doing. Yeah william started his own team starts. I started calling him. Mr be since he's got this big time. I racing team but I wanna talk to him next time. I'm gonna ask him well. How does that work. I mean nothing physical yeah he. He's spent some money on it so I don't know. That's i keep myself really busy with other things and i'm kinda maxed out at the moment. I think it's really neat. I play on. Ira seeing a little bit more to to play around and then taking that super seriously. Is it something you see yourself doing. After nascar maybe retiring you're eighty years old. You're sitting in your living room and you're still raising all that's gonna be so different when i'm eighty years old. Can you imagine what sim racing is going to become at that point Maybe i don't know all probably be at a dirt track somewhere though

So eight races will be pared down to four for Phoenix. which is going to be the round of four, which is only one race I guess but I mean look at look at that lineup, you've got one, two, three, four, five champions. You've got the guy who's the perennial second place Cinderella story that never gets it done at any Hamlin the most popular driver and Chase Elliott, and then Alex Bowman as well. The future forty-eight drivers. That's pretty cool and we've got a great mix of manufacturers. Yeah. Yeah. No joke I mean we've got a pretty good representation of everything here. We got to Chevy's two toyotas. Fords right that were at. I see in three three chevys. Sorry. Three Chevy Chevy three forwards and two Toyotas. That's pretty good. especially when you consider how few Toyotas are in the field. That's that's par for the course you're only gonNA get two of them in there but that's that's a pretty impressive field of drivers for this. Finally, all right Kansas speedway opened in two thousand and one it's bad fast on the list of top ten fastest tracks, which is a weird list. Drivers, of course, have to dodge rows and rows of corn and wheat growing right there on the racetrack in between the workers and the cracks. would. That might not be true.
