He's not going to be there though, so maybe Josh Barry can sneak up there and surprise in his second start in the next gen car. Alex Bowman, that's his home track. He's good there. Yeah, Hamlin. I mean, there's lots of guys who've shown the ability to get it done here at Phoenix. So this is kind of a wide open thing, especially with the new package. We've got the new aerodynamic package. Where it's going to take away 30 to 40% of the down force. NASCAR says 30, I've heard Denny Hamlin say up to 40% down force will be removed. This is big. So we really don't know what we're going to see. But I do think with guys like Denny Hamlin, who were able to take care of their tires usually with a car that has less down force, they're going to be kind of slinging it out and burning those tires off. I think a Denny Hamlin could be a smart play this week. Logano has the most recent win there and he's got three in his back pocket two. Yeah. Yeah. It looks insane, by the way. William Byron wins at Las Vegas as Hendrick dominates
"William Byron hit the jackpot at Las Vegas Motor Speedway leading 176 out of 271 laps to take the win and lock himself in to NASCAR's playoffs later this year. Happy with getting the first one of the year it's been a while since we've won. It's been almost a year and it's nice to kind of just get back to what I feel like we're capable of. It was a teammate trifecta as barents teammate Kyle Larson finished second. I thought Kyle was really strong. He could stay close to me for a lot of the runs. The 24 pits I was just better than ours there at the end. So bummed, but all in all, we needed a good run today. You have second and all three stages and good points today. Followed by fellow Hendrick motor sports driver, Alex Bowman in third. I'm Jerry Jordan.

"Was the winner at NASCAR dot com for about 15 minutes. Maybe even three days. I have no clue. No, it was a long time after the checkered flag. I had texted you and I'm like, are they not sure what's going on over there? Yeah, I saw you, I saw you send it, but I was knee deep in post race stuff. And then right after that. Getting in the car and I was heading back. I don't play around. But I mean, even with the photo of Joey, yeah. Yeah, that's pretty funny. That's pretty funny. Yeah. So something weird there, I don't know, aliens crash landing or something. Ross Chastain at number 9, which is not unexpected. He runs, he runs well now. He's good. Anyone stage two, so get some stage points and a playoff point to go forward with. So not bad. Hats off to number 8, Ryan Blaney. I don't understand how he finished 8th with the way that car looked. I mean, man. Yeah, I got a pretty good viral post on Twitter about it because I took a picture of the car and was like, this car somehow finished 8th, they told him 500. I talked to him about it afterwards. And he was just he was happy that he somehow finished 8th. I was expecting him to be upset when I saw the car and that he wouldn't want to talk. But no, Ryan Blaney was very excited that he finished so well. I asked him if this was something that he just now does all of a sudden because if you remember back to Daytona last year, he had the wounded car that he nursed to a playoff birth. Like dirt Bristol last year the year before he had just destroyed car finished 8th. He said, hell no, I hope this isn't something I do all the time. But very happy to finish 8th for Ryan Blaney. Well, his face is more aerodynamic. So maybe that was it. That's probably it, yeah. Makes sense. Daniel Suarez at number 7. So you got him. Didn't he spin it one time too? He is the guy and he didn't just spin. He spun late and he's the guy who caused this entire thing to end up the way it ended up. Because we had a pretty good idea how this thing was supposed to end. And then Daniel Suarez went for a spin with two laps to go. He got to AJ almond dinger leading in the closing laps had a solid car and this week we heard he has lost his beloved cat and as a cat owner. I can sympathize. Anybody owns any kind of a pet of any kind. That's a sad deal. As far as the Cup race goes, like you said, lead in the closing laps, look like he had a really legit shot at winning this thing, got caught up in that fracas that was going on. Is that even a thing? He has a thing. I think it's ruckus. Ruckus of fracas of fracas. That's a new word here though. We'll take it. We're making up new stuff here, but he got caught up in that little mainland last lap, but still finished 6th, had a really good run, and I know this guy does not like Daytona or Talladega, but to get his full-time Cup Series campaign started off on the right foot with a 6th place finish. I think that's going to really bode well for him going forward. Alex Bowman notching his 65th Daytona 500 poll and he finishes 5th. He's had the poll for every day telling 500. You see what I did there? I love it. But you know, with everything that was going on, he had some amazing avoidance on that last lap crash, by the way, to get that 5th place finish. He doesn't have much luck at these places, but I think for him to finish 5th, I think he's got to feel pretty good about that. He's probably wondering, when are they going to run one of these where it's just single car? Right? Do well. Can we just hammer those big trophies to the guy who wins the poll? Right. Well, they kind of do. Christopher Chris busher and his teammate and team owner, Brad Keselowski ran up front most of the day, but Chris actually ended up with a top 5. Yeah, Keselowski went careening through the field there and one of those crashes. So he didn't quite get there, but Chris busher did get there. And he actually scored ten stage points during the day. Like you said, Keselowski was up there throughout the whole race as well. One stage more. So a good day overall for RFK and Chris buscher brings a home and get some at least one of those cars and a good finishing position. Christopher Bell with his best career finish for the 500. And you know, he was good. All right, it's long. He led like 20 laps. He was in the mix. You didn't really see much Toyota action happening throughout the day, but Christopher Bell was the just the common denominator up there towards the front for Toyota. The Fords, my gosh, I'm having I'm at a bar, I'm having pizza. I look up at the screen and it's like Fords for the top 9 at one point. See, this is how Carrie covers the Daytona 500. Enter Tom sizemore is in critical condition after suffering a brain aneurysm. A representative for the actor says size more suffered the aneurysm early Saturday at his home in Los Angeles, his manager says sizemore is hospitalized in intensive care and describes it as a wait and see situation. Bowman, Larson give Hendrick sweep of front row at Daytona
"Time trials for the 2023 Daytona 500 are complete and Alex Bowman will lead the field to the green on Sunday as his teammate Kyle Larson paces on the outside of row one. As a driver, really all you can do is get the best launch you can, hit your shift points right. And try to run the best you can, not mess it up. Bowman's 181.696 mph lap puts him on the front row for a record of 6 straight times. I would love to be able to sit here and take a little bit of credit and I feel like my launch was okay and my shifts were good, but man, it's really on the team guys they get the job done. Morrison said timon and Rick Hendrick stresses the importance of winning the pole, but there's a bigger task at hand. Rick, it's really excited about that, but I know he'd be even more excited. "For a while. Yeah, no, that sounds really cool, so let's kick things off with how it went. This morning, as you're listening to this, we're recording on Wednesday, Daniel Suarez reached a multiyear extension with track house racing, which will keep him in the number 99 Chevrolet Camaro for years to come, which is good to see, right? Yeah, I mean, he got it done last year, so I can see that that's a no brainer. Yeah, and since the team opened, he was the first driver they signed, he really impressed in year one year two here. This past season really impressed. One is first kept series. Victory, it's noma and worked his way into the playoffs and finished top ten, the championship standing, so a really good season for him has been rewarded with a contract extension. And to that token, you look at the other side of things here on the next announcement, Alex Bowman, with Hendrick motor sports, also signed to a multiyear agreement. Financial as well will be returning for multiyears as well. Alex Bowman locked in at the number 48 team there. Really, really good stuff because a lot of people kind of rumored that if this season doesn't go, well, Alex Bowman might be on his way out because he just seems to be that fourth guy like you have the other three guys are a huge names and then there's Alex Bowman who wins a lot, but people just for a reason don't believe Alex Bowman out there. I don't know what the deal is, but here it is. He's locked in and I think he's got the ability now kind of race with reckless abandonment this year, trying to win some races. He has multiple win seasons. It's not like he's, you know, the guy has won more than pretty much almost anyone else besides like chase Elliott and Kyle Larson over the last four years. So the guy gets it done. That's tough competition when your teammates are those guys. Well, in the knock on them is that he only like he wins like he shows up these things wins late out of nowhere and then that's all it is. He just wins a few races a year and you don't hear anything else out in the rest of Europe. That's what this format is though. The whole point of it is out of that. Kevin Harvick had a career out of that. Yeah, that's the whole point. So I just find it funny when people complain about it when this is literally what the system has been put in place to reward only winning. So yeah, that's what it is. But yeah, Alex Bowman locked up for years to come. That's very interesting news. It's coming mid week here, like right before the 500. Yeah, yeah. And we've also, we're going to talk about entry lists and stuff later on. I think, but we had some shuffling on the Daytona truck series entry list this week. Okay, let's shuffle them up. We had Johnny solder who we know listens to this here show. He does. In a shop. Yeah, he was entered in the number 46 G two G racing entry for Daytona. He ran in with that team last year at Daytona. The less than favorable results, but he was lined up to do it again this year. They have now replaced him with norm benning on the entry list in that 46 car. So no real reason given by the team yet. We don't really know the full backstory on that. But we'll eventually get it, but G two G racing has put norm benning and the number 46 Toyota tundra for Daytona. Guess the good news is Johnny now has a little more time to listen to us. That's true, and he's over there at news murder. Running some local short track stuff, which is another reason why it was really shocking to see him off this entry list. He's already down there. So something has happened. I don't know what, but Johnny solder will not be around the truck series race Daytona. Even though he had a locked in spot too, that's the other thing. The team was locked into the race by virtue of his past champion's provisional, and now they don't have that luxury. So the question now becomes what happened and why did it happen? And what happens next? That's bizarre. That's where we're at. Very weird. All right, well, whatever. Tony Stewart is going full-time racing? Yet did you see this? He's going to be going like drag racing, full-time. Top alcohol drag racing with Mick Phillips racing. This is just a wait, you drink alcohol while you're racing, that doesn't seem wise. NASCAR Playoff Pulse: Analyzing the Field After Richmond
"Opening up the nascar cup series season with three wins in the opening. Twelve races martin. True ex junior went through a long dry spell when the weather warmed up. Well he's got his mojo back again. Winning the playoff race at richmond ending his summer slump a lot of tough lock and auto crashes and got caught in the rain a few times and some crazy things happen too so i felt like we brought goodspeed all summer. We had good cars for the most part other concrete tracks. Really kinda whipped us. But you never know how things are gonna go to x. Now joins teammate denny. Hamlin is around one winner. Who's locked up a spot in round two. Also clinching on points. Kyle larson trying to be one of the other nine drivers who are going to move on chase. Elliott is currently ranked seventh and fortunate to finish fourth at richmond following a problem pitstop when the reigning champ thought he had slid through his pit box so i just kind of took it upon myself to back up. Tj already hit the right side. Jack and at that point. I should know not to but obviously i wouldn't have broke the jack if i knew it was going to break the jack so i just didn't want to stop over the line. Three that's pretty good How about curb ish. His two wins of this race. Track seven top five fifteen top tens average french fifteen point two. Then you've got martin tricks junior to wins in a row. Seventy five thirteen top tens and a sixteen point nine average finish. The average finishes are kind of starting to work their way back down to earth here. These next ones are good. All right now denny. Hamlin winner last week at darlington finally got off the snide looking to become a championship. Favourite three wins this race. Track fourteen five. Eighteen top tens an average. Finish of nine point. Oh and he was also a contributing factor to one of the most infamous finishes and richmond. History were bush dumped dale earnhardt. Jr. in two thousand eight i remember that had been for denny hamlin who cut a tire instead stayed on the track pacing around several laps and then finally caution. NASCAR Penalizes Teams of Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman Over Engine Infractions
"Position flip in the standings after Hendrick Motor Sports teams of Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman were penalized for running afoul of engine rules at New Hampshire last weekend. Teams are required to use sealed engines in the same car it originally ran in the next time it used team, Hendricks says an administrative error led to a motor from the nine car running in the 48th. 25 point penalties to each team will drop Elliott from fifth to sixth Overall. "Back to Atlanta Motor Speedway were in stage break number one here in pit road will be open the next time. Bye And so will everybody will come in and take advantage of our third yellow flag of the day and that stage as it wore on, was dominated by Kyle Busch, who had 67 laps in that run dug at the end of that stage, Kurt Busch waved the white flag. And he was You know what? 20 car lengths back. Everybody else was almost a half mile. I mean, these two really stretched away from the rest of the field. And I think what we're seeing today, Mark amplified our these teams trying their best not to go over the edge with tire wear everybody, I I feel like a soft pedaling to some extent. Well dug. They saw what happened here in March, where Kyle Larson. Everybody thought you and I included had the race locked up and again the tire wear Took it away. Pit road is open and it's about to get very busy. Doug Turnbull certainly is. Kyle Larson's team is the first one in on pit road. They're going to work just on the balance of the race car and not make wholesale changes from the seventh position. Third place runner Denny Hamlin in front of me Now they're going to go for Goodyear Tire Sunoco fuel A tear off has taken off of the number 11 working tight conditions in a chassis adjustment there tight conditions, both side of the track. Alec of Ana Alex Bowman drove all the way up to third place but gave up a spot right at the end. Finish that stage in fourth. They're going to put some more tape on The grill to help it turn just a little better. He is on and off pit road. His Hendrick teammates. Similar story just needs to loosen it up for William Byron Bretton. Kyle Busch. Great stop so far the around the left side wipe off the grill. He pulls out 14.3 seconds. He was happy with the car, said he needed just a little bit helping the Highline because that's what Kurt Busch like running. Meanwhile, Kurt Busch spin in that, he said, the car was a little bit tight towards the end of that run. What to be loosened up some, so they took some air pressure out. Kurt Busch, though, will win the battle off of pit road. Kyle Busch comes off second, he loses a spot. Denny Hamlin, then Alex Bowman hold on to 3rd and 4th and Tyler Reddick fifth off the pit lane. So nice pit Stop there for Kurt Busch to come out. Take the lead away from little brother and we'll see how this plays on the restart should be fairly exciting. And we're looking at a little bit of video here of the right front tire that came off Chase Elliott and Marc Ayrault. That thing is used up. It looks ugly and again. We've talked about it being a cheese grater.

Byron Prevails at Homestead for Second Cup Victory
"Year old Hendrick Motor Sports driver William Byron captured his second NASCAR Cup series win yesterday at the Homestead Miami Speedway, winning the Dixie Vodka 400 firing letter race High 102 of the races 267 Labs and beat second place finisher Tyler Reddick to the line by 2.7 seconds. Claim that checkered flag, not a lot of great people around me. Keep me pushing and we had a great offseason to prepare. My Rudy's come in and done a phenomenal job, and he knows how to how to push the right buttons with me and you know, I know exactly what he means when he says that, so I just had to go to work, and luckily we had enough car there. At the end behind Byron and Reddick were Martin Truex Jr. Kyle Larson and Kevin Harvick completed the top five. So it's going to be a jumbled mess. Come Sunday, but hopefully a good race and that will be 20 years. Gary Jeff, and that faithful day in 2000 and one since Taylor in the Intimidator was killed out that on the last lap race, I watched that footage just the other day because somebody was Having some special on Daytona. And I watch that footage the other day. And I'm still to this day just in disbelief that that particular crash was enough to kill Dale Earnhardt because it seemed like such a routine kind of banging up against the wall that you see in those races all the time, and the driver always walks out. That's correctly no physical realization. But just one fraction of an inch, One way or another. Without the hands device. Then which became correct. I had no no. And I mean the safety features. Now these guys are kind of like in a bubble. I mean, a major in there in there in a minute, SSM a zing. They're very patched the best that is that his death. Brought about all these changes the HANS device, their revised cockpit for race car drivers, the arrow screen and Indy car the well, you know, look at the look at the walls. The safer barriers or I mean, that's that's all come out of that. And so that's not only as the Intimidator got a legacy and behind the wheel, but he also has won because of safety read. Does that make sense so who is eligible to race in this thing. How about twenty. Twenty busch pole award winners. There's only a handful because of covid passed busch clash winners who competed full-time last year. Daytona five hundred champions. Who competed fulltime in two thousand twenty. Former daytona five hundred busch pole winners who competed fulltime last year. And finally. let's run down this list. Twenty twenty cup series playoff drivers race winners and stage winners based on this criteria. Twenty-one drivers will race. Oh see if your favourite is on this list. Eric merola ryan blaney. Alex bowman chris buscher kurt. Busch kyle busch william byron cole. Custer matt benedetto. Austin dillon ty dillon. Chase elliott denny. Hamlin kevin harvick. Eric jones brad. "Once again. Alex bowman welcome back to the program. Yeah thanks for having me all right over your shoulder here. It smelling pretty good. It's it's looking pretty good You got in and out burger there for lunch yet. Not for me for the guys. Yeah my my trainer would kill me. he doesn't know that i had a double double animal style fries and a chocolate shake yesterday when i landed. So we're just not going to tell them that but but today since odds are he's going to walk in here Not gonna eat that. Well you know this is broadcast and online and so he might find out some other way. Yeah we'll just we'll just send it and hope hope he doesn't all right. I noticed that they tony. You had like an all white fire suit. How do you keep that thing clean. You don't yeah that was That's tough valvoline. paint scheme. looks so good firesuits. Look really good I think all white looks really good. It's just so hard to keep playing I think they have a couple of primaries this year so only got to make them last a couple of races but It is tough there destroyed after one race They wanted me to do that for chili bowl. And i said no way Cj who drives my car he he got an all white suit for chile will and it was destroyed after after practice. Pretty much so It is as tough for sure. The first thing. I thought of as that would not work in the days of thunder days. No for sure stuff used to get the pair used to move through the cars. So much more i mean. The cars were cooler inside because of it. Actually but i mean those guys would get so dirty back in the day. I just because there was so much more moving air and everything was sealed up how it is now. But now they're like They're sealed up pretty tight. Except for when i went through the grass i had grass everywhere so That firesuits probably half green at this point. But that's all right. Put mountain dew on that part of it. Yeah yeah if if they wanted to be on eighty eight car for sure. We're halfway there. You did a panting of matt benedetto. I saw it online. And you know how corvettes have four taillights he. He had somebody take the tail lights out to like put tent on them. And like put different spoiler on the car. And they didn't tighten the bolts out one of the bolts up and one of the tail lights fell out going down the road. So that's embarrassment. He's got good taste in cars but yeah it's a little bit nursing. What what are you driving personally. No one of those. Yeah so he's actually copying me. He's got the same cars me now. He's he was going to buy the same wheels that i had on my car so i just sold him my wheels about something different. So we weren't matching but yeah you should go ask him about it because it's literally he's copying me. That's that's definitely interesting. Go out there and race. Yeah mine still going to be mine. Still gonna be faster though. So i mean it's obviously got the better driver so it's all driver of course nothing under the hood for sure now. Last time we spoke you were still working out the intricacies of assigned seating at movie theaters. Is there anything else technology wiser in two thousand twenty. That's baffling you I don't think there's been anything yet. I'm sure. I'm sure there will be that movie. Theater incident was largely embarrassing. Pretty sure i'm never going on a date ever again. After that that was that was a struggle But yeah nothing yet. I feel like something will definitely pop up and confuse the heck out of me and all embarrassed myself with it but nothing yet. Truth be told seventeen years. I've been doing this. This is the first time using my phone for notes. I used to use paper mainly because it was lighter. So i'm still getting into the tech stuff too. Yeah yeah there you go. I mean yeah. It's forever changing. Who would think that you have assigned seats at a movie theater. That there's twelve people and it just didn't make any sense. And and i mean it's it's written on my chest on the firesuits so i guess i could just look down and figure it out but no it's it's been really cool to have some new partners on board obviously We have this week and chevy goods dot com and everybody. That's going to be out for the rest of the year. Really excited about all that so It'll be neat. I think the black and gold car looks really cool so looking forward to seeing that on the race track. Lamar looks good to its new paint scheme for them so it only looks a little bit similar to the valvoline paint scheme. Just a little bit. But but that's all right. That's that's that's a good luck to you once you're inside it kind of looks the same right. Yeah yeah you can't see it from From where i sit. So i'm here for it. Do you ever bring the wrong stuff to the track. Not recently so when i was driving for junior motorsports We had a couple of different sponsors on the car throughout the year. We went somewhere in. Dave ellen's was the crew chief and really all the sponsors were the same color scheme but he wore the wrong shirt like the race day shirt. He warned completely wrong. One week kelsey did my pr over there. as well. and i thought she was gonna kill him so It was it was a good day for sure with sports. Exploding ni- racing and that's something that you're interested in and doing. Yeah william started his own team starts. I started calling him. Mr be since he's got this big time. I racing team but I wanna talk to him next time. I'm gonna ask him well. How does that work. I mean nothing physical yeah he. He's spent some money on it so I don't know. That's i keep myself really busy with other things and i'm kinda maxed out at the moment. I think it's really neat. I play on. Ira seeing a little bit more to to play around and then taking that super seriously. Is it something you see yourself doing. After nascar maybe retiring you're eighty years old. You're sitting in your living room and you're still raising all that's gonna be so different when i'm eighty years old. Can you imagine what sim racing is going to become at that point Maybe i don't know all probably be at a dirt track somewhere though

Kansas Speedway Starting Lineup: October 2020 (NASCAR Cup Series)
"Series rat of eight kicks off this weekend at Kansas despite other media members thinking it's more and other weird stuff. These are the drivers that are going to battle it out for four spots over the next three races Kurt Busch Alex, Bowman Martin tricks junior joey logano chase Elliott Brad Keselowski Denny Hamlin, and Kevin Harvick bloom that is a star studded pack of drivers there for sure. So eight races will be pared down to four for Phoenix. which is going to be the round of four, which is only one race I guess but I mean look at look at that lineup, you've got one, two, three, four, five champions. You've got the guy who's the perennial second place Cinderella story that never gets it done at any Hamlin the most popular driver and Chase Elliott, and then Alex Bowman as well. The future forty-eight drivers. That's pretty cool and we've got a great mix of manufacturers. Yeah. Yeah. No joke I mean we've got a pretty good representation of everything here. We got to Chevy's two toyotas. Fords right that were at. I see in three three chevys. Sorry. Three Chevy Chevy three forwards and two Toyotas. That's pretty good. especially when you consider how few Toyotas are in the field. That's that's par for the course you're only gonNA get two of them in there but that's that's a pretty impressive field of drivers for this. Finally, all right Kansas speedway opened in two thousand and one it's bad fast on the list of top ten fastest tracks, which is a weird list. Drivers, of course, have to dodge rows and rows of corn and wheat growing right there on the racetrack in between the workers and the cracks. would. That might not be true.

I liked your tweet after the checkered flag that you don't understand how this could happen. Have you had a chance to process it? And what indeed did happen. Yeah I'm I'm pretty surprised I think a lot of other people are pretty surprised as well I have definitely been on the not taking this super serious side of things when it comes die racing so To to get a win on their with is surprising for me for sure. I Iran one practice race for like twenty five laps all week and Called it good and and Kinda Senate on Sunday so Cloud to get hundred motorsports and other win. I think William is much more talented than I am when it comes to the virtual thing and Just you know. Glad to get US three in a row but Had A lot of fun like I said. I'm confused on on how happened. I guess it got Super Lucky but ZAC that it worked out so how much I rarely experience do. You Have D. Even have a chance to win. Things were in regular life have a chance to do that or is it just one of the things that you've hopped on board with through the stoppage that we've been going through. Yeah you know once we. I think when dirt came out on IRA saying. I completely stopped running the pavement. I racing stuff So it's I'm definitely not a guy with a bunch of experience and You know you look guys like William that that have a big background in it and and have done quite a bit I'm definitely on the opposite side of that spectrum. Well it didn't look that way on Sunday. Congratulations it was a lot of fun to watch. It was as intense as it normally is. I'm sure that from from your perspective.
