Border crossings are off from last week's highs as US pins hopes for order on mobile app
"A new mobile app is allowing 1000 would be migrants per day to make an appointment to apply for asylum in the United States. Homeland Security secretary Alejandro mayorkas says they were encouraging migrants to use the legal pathway toward entry, and that's helping to reduce the flood of migrants coming in at the southern border. Approximately 50% drop. He spoke on ABC's this week with George Stephanopoulos. We have to incentivize the use of the lawful pathways and disincentivize placing people's lives in the hands of smugglers. But Texas Republican congressman Mike McCall says too many migrants are being allowed in without a hearing date, which the now expired title 42 rule prevented. When they get into the United States, whether they have legitimate claims or not, they're released into our society. And then you have 5 million people without any legal status. The Biden administration says it will penalize those who try to seek asylum without going through the proper channels. I'm Jackie Quinn

Title 42 Ends: Does Third-World America Begin?
"Start with a bad update and updated our border title 42 is off. It is I wanted to open with this clip and one 39, please Alejandro mayorkas. What is the economic cost of your broken immigration system? Since there are businesses around this country that are desperate for workers, there are desperate workers looking for jobs, desperate workers in foreign countries that are looking for jobs in the United States where they can earn money lawfully and send much needed remittances back home. What is the cost of a broken immigration system? That is the question that I am asked and that is the question that I pose to Congress because it is extraordinary. Every once in a while, they give you something that so clearly reveals their thinking. You're almost grateful for the clarity. A huge priorities are actually getting remittances. If you're watching this show and you're not paid by Soros or media matters to watch it. You probably are in the camp that that is a problem if we are importing people specifically so they can take American dollars that we earn and that we create with our capitalist economy and send them back to wherever they're from, probably in a lot of cases, communist countries, in particular, a lot of the current flood Venezuelans in particular, one of the worst communist regimes in the world. We actually have a reporter Breitbart News, Caleb Caruso, who's down there, and he covers it. He is a column called my socialist nightmare that he writes for us at Breitbart News, because he tracks Venezuela from Venezuela from us. And mayorkas actually prioritizing the remittances getting sent out of the U.S.. I think those are taxed at the same rate you and I are taxed. No. Absolutely not.

Is DHS Prioritizing Migrants Over American Workers?
"We got a lot to get to in the news. And let's play this clip. I was meaning to play anyway, cut one 34 in Alejandro mayorkas from his press conference just now. Let's go. What's the rough cost or American taxpayers since the roughly 4 million people have come into this country illegally? Us in January of 2021 as those people show up and community hospitals as they enter the school system as they get other government help. Do you have the taxpayer cost? Let me turn that question around a little bit because I'm a turn it around to match the question that an international partner asked of me. And the question that the international partner asked of me is, what is the economic cost of your broken immigration system? Since there are businesses around this country that are desperate for workers, yeah, so this is all about economic migration, and he wants to import people because the businesses are desperate. Well, you know who's not desperate. He was not desperate as the American people who are having their wages undercut at seeing their rents go up, seeing their cost of living go up, seeing all sorts of drugs and crime being imported into their communities all because Alejandro mayorkas wants to use his power at the Department of Homeland Security to try to take care of people who are not Americans. That is not his mandate. I'm all for taking care of an American's non Americans in your free time with your extra dollars that you get to keep, what few dollars Joe Biden lets you keep. I give to charity every year and I always give some amount to international charities to try to feed people and help people who are the least among us globally. I understand that that is a noble pursuit. Everyone should do that. That is not the role of the U.S. government and that is not the mandate of the Department of Homeland Security. To try to make it easier for people to economically migrate. In order to undercut American working in middle class and lower classes and at the benefit of the globalist establishment that wants to see America's borders broken down and wants to see their stocks maybe go up a little bit because they can save a little bit on the wages they pay their workforce.

The pandemic era policy led border officials quickly send asylum seekers back over the border, but it did not punish them for trying again. Now the administration says those trying to cross illegally will face consequences, including a minimum 5 year ban on reentry and potential criminal prosecution. But the warnings from Homeland Security chief Alejandro mayorkas. Our borders are not open. Are being ignored by migrants who know about the changes, but are still desperate to reach the U.S. at any cost fleeing gangs, poverty, persecution. Mayorkas knows things will get worse. AP source: Biden would veto House GOP bill on immigration
"In administration officials as President Biden would veto a house GOP bill on immigration that aims to resurrect a slew of Donald Trump's policies. Immigration is in the spotlight this week when the administration expects a surge of migrants at the southern border as pandemic era restrictions end. Homeland Security chief Alejandro mayorkas said last week, lawmakers must deal with major border problems. We urge Congress to fix our broken immigration system. But The White House says a Republican bill that may come up for a vote this week is not the way to do it. It would restrict asylum, build more border wall and cut a program that gives migrants a chance to stay in the U.S. lawfully for two years. The bill stands little chance of getting through the Democrat run Senate. But if it does get to the Oval Office, an official says the president would veto it. Sagar Meghani, Washington.

"I would love to be the person or have someone ask the question to mister mayorkas and all those like minded, sir. People are breaking down your door. Their arms. There is more than one of them, and they got things that can take you down and your family. On your table, you got to sell phones. You got pace shooters. You got spit wads. You got a slingshot, a bow and arrow. You got a pistol, a revolver, and you got a semi-automatic rifle. Which one are you gonna pick up first? And here's the second question. Here's the second statement, the follow-up statement. Don't tell me what I can have, tell me what's the threat is and I'll tell you what I need because I and every person on this planet has the right to defend himself and his family and his belongings. That's innate that's comes from the creator and it's enshrined and protected by the Second Amendment. So mister mayorkas and all of those crazies, what you're going to pick up while you're waiting for the law enforcement to show up if they do. But it's different, isn't it, Wallace? They're part of the elite class. And so they have protection. They have all of this, right? Yeah. Don't call yourself a public servant if you ain't going to serve the public who's paying your salary. You're a self servant, and you're getting on my last good nerve, mister mayorkas, and mister Biden. And if anybody, you know, let's ask this question. You want to talk about domestic terrorism? Look in the mirror, mister mayorkas. There you go. You're the domestic terrorist, and all of those people who are invading the privacy and the homes at 5 30 in the morning of good law abiding citizens who

"Seriously do you take these calls for your impeachment? Oh, I take them. I take them seriously. It is, it is the leadership of the house. That provided those remarks. I don't. Dismiss it by any measure. But what I do is I focus on my work. What do you think is the basis for their calling for your impeachment? Do you think you've done anything wrong? No, I don't. I think it is a disagreement over policy. And I think it is used for political purposes to continue a negative dialog about a migration challenge that is not unique to the United States to continue that dialog to uplift it for political reasons. So the secretary of Homeland Security el Alejandro mayorkas and here is saying I think it's a difference of opinion. They shouldn't fire me. They shouldn't impeach me, et cetera, et cetera. We all know he's dead wrong. There's a crisis at the border that he's facilitating at Biden's request and members of the House judiciary committee took a tour of the U.S. Mexico border today. And chairman of the House judiciary committee, congressman Jim Jordan is with us right now. Congressman welcome. It's good to be with you rich and I would just say it's not a difference of opinion. It's a failure to enforce the law. That is the fundamental problem here. And understand too, on day one, Joe Biden committed to this crazy policy that has resulted in 5 million illegal migrants coming into our country in two years. On day one, Joe Biden said, we're note with no more wall, no more remain in Mexico, no more deportation for immigration violations. Those three changes fundamentally change the equation and that's why we have 5 million illegals across the border and that's why we have stress on hospital stress on our education system stress on first providers border patrol law enforcement taxpayers on and on it goes because they made an intentional decision not to enforce the law and to change those three fundamental policies that we had in our president Trump. And now we see the results of all that. Now, chairman Jordan, I know you went down there today with a contingent of folks, but it seems like Democrats decided to boycott this whole thing. Yeah, I mean, and again, if your policies were the reason for what we just described, I don't think I'd show up either for goodness sake. So we had never seen a fuel hearing like this before. We had a packed house. I mean, there was no seats left in the municipal building there. The city hall Bill, no seats left and because the folks here in Yuma, the good folks in this great town, they understand what's going on here, and they know it's like, it's got to change. But unfortunately, I don't know if it can with this. We're going to do everything we can, but I don't know that Joe Biden's ever going to see the light do the right thing. And even if you wanted to, I'm not sure the crazy left, which controls his party would allow him to do it. Now, Jim Jordan, what is some of what you took away from this visit? I mean, obviously every day we see images of people crossing women, children smugglers, all sorts of stuff. What did you see today you boots on the ground in Yuma? Well, I think the sort of the question I think really got answered today was why does it matter? So we know the bad policy. How did it happen? It happened because they had the good policies under president Trump. They changed those policies. They're not enforcing the law and now we get the terrible situation, a situation we have. But the real question was why does it matter? And that's what we really saw on display today. We talked to a hospital administrator. Can you talk about how there have been occasions where American citizens taxpaying citizens couldn't have their child delivered at the hospital because everything was full in the intensive care that because of migrant and look, they help everyone. We want to help people. But that's the kind of situation. So the stress on our healthcare system, they talked about we heard from the supervisor here in Yuma county who said that they're now the English is the second language teachers at school. English and Spanish, but now it's like so many different languages that the stress on our school system. So that's why it matters. And all the problems they're experiencing in Yuma and all across our southern border, they're now coming everywhere else. They're coming to Ohio. They're coming to Florida. They're coming to Georgia. They're coming to New York City. Even mayor Eric Adams said that we can't handle any more. So that's what I think really came through today. Yes, this is a shame. And to me, it's a shame that they didn't show up and I get why they're ashamed of it. But I look at this and I think, what does that say to, you know, folks in Arizona that feel like, you know, is it only the Republicans that give a damn about what happens at the border? Did you get any sentiment from the folks that you spoke with? Well, they appreciate that they really did it with a very receptive crowd because I think they understand that it's the Democrats who cause the problem and that Republicans are trying to fix it. And one of the things we're going to have to do is we are going to have to, I believe, if we're going to have a chance to get this fixed here in the next two years and not have to wait until I hope president Trump's back in The White House. But we're going to get a fix. We're going to have to use the appropriation process. We're going to say, look, you don't there are certain things. We can't allow taxpayer money to be used to fund. That's the leverage we have as the legislative branch is split government. And we're going to have to be committed to fighting for that using that approach. If we're going to change not only this, but so many other things that need change where the voters elected the Republicans in the House to address. Now, I understand that representative Jerry Nadler from my part of town was going to go on the trip and he didn't go on the trip. Do you have any members across the aisle that are any of your colleagues that are saying, you know what? Chairman Jordan, yes, I think you're on the right track. We do have to fix this thing. We're going to work with you. I know, you know, it's tough now. I would love to work with Democrats, but remember what President Biden said. He said this is the state of the unit. It's time for us to sit down and work together on the one hand, I'm like, well, first of all, you created the

For over a decade now, Apple has been pushing back on the idea of adding touch screens. Here's the fundamental problem with Apple added touch to the map because everyone wants it. "The latest I'm Julie Ryan This is Bloomberg best on Bloomberg radio This is Bloomberg best I'm at Baxter And I'm Denise Pellegrini Denise what do you think would happen if you tried to hack the Department of Homeland Security Well it probably wouldn't get very far But it turns out that instead of throwing you in jail if you try They might actually pay you for your effort Yeah that's right We had a chance to hear about it from Homeland Security secretary Alejandro mayorkas And he unveiled the bug bounty program It's called with Bloomberg's Brad stone at the Bloomberg technologies summit Let's listen in This is a really important program and one we're very excited about Of course we're focused not only on protecting and enhancing the cybersecurity of the private sector and of the federal government writ large but of course we as a department have to lead by example And so what we are very focused on is identifying vulnerabilities and addressing remediating those vulnerabilities So hack DHS is a bug bounty program We're going to be paying between $505,000 depending on the gravity of the vulnerability The impact that remediation will have and so it's a scalable amount of money but we consider that quite significant We are going to be verifying the vulnerability and remediating it within either 15 days or if it's complexity so requires our systems will be required to develop a plan for remediation within that 15 day period We're really investing a great deal of money as well as attention and focus on this program The hack DHS program And you've talked about this programming this program occurring throughout fiscal year 2022 Do you see this lasting through different congresses and presidential administrations So of course that is going to be up to a new administration but our focus right now is on this current period And we're going to see what we learned from it What values we draw from it And if in fact the value proposition so warrants we will continue the program for as long as we can Okay secretary you are here in my hometown the Bay Area meeting with companies like Google and Juniper The meetings were described as kind of a term offensive taking what had been a partnership and moving it into more of an operational collaboration with Silicon Valley What exactly does that mean And I guess frankly you know why hasn't there already been an operational collaboration with some of the companies who are on the front line of this very fraught cybersecurity environment right now So Brad I think there has been an operational collaboration but we want to take it to a really unprecedented level I think everyone all of our listeners know very well that cybersecurity is not something that can be accomplished alone but it needs to be accomplished in partnership The federal government can't do it alone State and local governments can't do it by themselves This requires a public private collaboration There's been a tremendous focus on information sharing which of course continues but we also want as you identify We want to focus on operational collaboration as well as the exchange of information and intelligence And so we're traveling around the country to communicate the different mechanisms that we're going to employ to achieve that And one of them under gen easterly's leadership the director of cisa is the joint cyber defense collaborative The JC D.C. which is a mechanism to really achieve that operational collaboration Did you take away a particular message from your meeting with companies in Silicon Valley You know they've been right in the thick of things They're just the onslaught of hacks and ransomware cases particularly in 2021 What was the message that they were delivering to you I think a few things Number one is the value proposition I refer to this repeatedly which is we need to do We in the federal government need to do a better job of communicating the information that we have It can not be in a vacuum Context is very important trend analyses are important not just the information sharing but intelligence sharing I think that is one theme that we heard throughout and also with respect to the joint cyber defense collaborative let us succeed ably with a defined group of companies on the front line and then we will cascade the model to really spread out throughout different levels of industry small medium sized businesses as well So secretary I run the technology coverage of Bloomberg news and our heads were really spinning last year with the volume and the velocity of hacks and particularly ransomware attacks It was primarily the first half of this year Is there a case to be made even in the data that the ransomware kind of epic is maybe slowing down a little bit that we have some kind of grip on the problem I would so I'd be so excited to be able to answer that question in the affirmative and say yes But I don't think we're there yet You correctly note that ransom where the amount of ransomware attacks really exploded A 300% increase quite frankly I think that some of the major players we haven't seen as active as previously that doesn't necessarily mean that they have gone away that we've defeated them They very well might have hit the pause but I think that we can not be in a position of relaxing our focus in our efforts in this regard Vigilance has to remain at an incredibly high level Is there any talk on the federal level of providing anti ransomware technologies to infrastructure providers in the same way as DHS might provide election protection technologies to voting companies So we're very focused on critical infrastructure for all the reasons that everyone can well understand The model of strengthening critical infrastructure is really dependent on the particular sector and there are different capabilities There are different needs It's not necessarily a one size fits all but we are going sector by sector some have seen our regulatory authorities exercise and unprecedented ways The pipeline sector following Colonial Pipeline and TSA the transportation security administration's promulgation of security directives in that specific area We're going sector by sector with great rapidity but I don't think it's a one size fits all Okay well let's talk about one of those sectors a federal agencies Can you talk about whether enhanced protections What protections you're providing to federal agencies Particularly in the wake of SolarWinds or earlier this year you know what has been done and perhaps what's in the works Let me give a perfect example of one thing that has been done because when we identify a vulnerability that impacts all of us we have the authority here in the Department of Homeland Security Either I do as a secretary or a cisa the cybersecurity and infrastructure security agency has the authority independently collaboratively of course to issue a binding operational directive which essentially directs federal departments and agencies to take certain cybersecurity measures and implement certain corrective actions And that is a tool that we have employed And do you have the sense that the private sector has improved their cyber defenses in the last year or two Just given the volume and severity of the tax How much has been done How much would you still like to see accomplished I think we've made strides I think we have a long ways to go Just quite candidly In two different in two different ways One is raising awareness You know the big companies that sophisticated companies spend a great deal of money on cybersecurity They understand the threat landscape understand what they need to do And very well understand that it's a C suite issue Others don't have that same level of awareness And then once we establish we sort of table set with respect to the awareness issue then we have the capabilities question And our companies appropriately resourced to take the measures that they need to take And so much of it it's one thing that I heard in Silicon Valley was a very interesting perspective that so much of it is actually quite accessible.
