The American Legislative Exchange Council's Members Will Fight ESG
"Get back there legislature, we got about a minute left. Treasure shredder. Again, LSU, you know, we're going to forgive him everything. He's army not navies, all the wrong stuff, but he's doing the right thing on ESG. Members of Alec take to this message. Are they clued in that the environmental social governmental effort to change the way that America invests is fundamentally corrupt and wrong and political? Yeah, it's one thing to first you have to recognize you have a problem, but you, what are we going to do when Louisiana Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi banks don't want to do business with us. So we have some work to do and figure out how do we what do we do? How do we fix it? We're going to find a bank that takes care of you folks. Exactly.
Louisiana State Treasurer John Schroder Discusses the ESG Movement
"Treasure. Let's slow this down for Pittsburgh steeler fan USC Trojans out there. ESG stands for environmental social governmental. And it's policies that corporations put in place and say, we're not going to harm the environment. We're not going to invest in socially left wing antitheses. And the governmental processes of these organizations, we're going to reform ourselves that we are in step with the local app. It's just woke. ESG is short for woke. So what we're doing right now, when I was, I praised Alec yesterday because a year ago, this nobody even was talking about this yet. And those treasures have different financial obligations across the country. I handle all debt for the state. I invest billions of dollars in trust funds, so I started with what I can do and what I can control. And I started and I'm going to say this on your radio show this morning and I have not said this publicly anywhere. It would have been working on move in $600 million out of BlackRock. Because as much as they want to infringe upon Louisiana, what they want, Louisiana, why shouldn't Louisiana have the same right to pick and choose who we do business with? And look, I've been drugged through court that I can't do this. I can't do that. This coin is single sided and I don't like it. And as this ESG thing grows, it's good to see legislators and treasures sitting in the same room yesterday, talking how are we going to fight against us because it's typically when you look at the makeup of Alec and you look at the makeup of the SOF membership, you know, it's not New York, it's not New Jersey, it's not California. It's not where all the number and mass is off. So they want to stuff this stuff right down our throat. Not on the coast. It's Iowa and Ohio. Yeah, Louisiana and Mississippi. And everybody in between.
Gov. Ron DeSantis's Strong Take on the ESG Movement
"The ESG movement that has crippled many companies in their vision for the future. Ron DeSantis talked about ESG yesterday. I'm going to talk about with some of my guests from Alec Alec, by the way, is that group that represents all the great ideas, the laboratory of the state's federalism, it brings all the state legislators state officials together for a long week conference exchanging ideas and the best practices at the state legislative level and they've taken up the ESG movement was the attempt to ban corporate profits to the will of the left. Here's what Ron DeSantis said about it yesterday, cut number 7. We are going to do through Florida state pension system a flat ban on any type of ESG. And as you say, they like to wiggle around. It's basically a way for them to do politics. So we're going to make sure that that fiduciary duty is defined very clearly. And that they stick to that. We're also want to provide protections for people in the financial marketplace from being discriminated against based on ideology. I mean, we've seen Wall Street banks discriminate against contractors who are involved in helping us against illegal immigration or against firearm manufacturers, things they don't like. So the upshot of all this Tucker is we want to stop these kind of masters of the universe from trying to do through economic power, what they can not achieve at the ballot box. And it's really an end run around democracy where they're trying to impose these things. And here in Florida, I want to be governed by the values of Destin, not the values of Davos. Well said governor desantis. And I'm going to

Donald Trump and Mike Pence Deliver Dueling Speeches in DC
"Donald Trump and Mike Pence both gave speeches yesterday. They are likely to be cheering off against each other in the. In the debates of 2015, here is present in Trump talking about China, cut number two. We need to establish a commission to hold China accountable for unleashing the virus upon the world and the damage they've caused. And we need to restore my administration's initiative to target and eliminate Chinese espionage, which Joe Biden outrageously abolished. We had it Huawei couldn't come in, you know, that they were prohibited from coming in all of a sudden they were all over the place. The men, the former president, added this cut number three. If I renounce my beliefs, if I agreed to stay silent, if I stayed at home and just took it easy, the persecution of Donald Trump would stop immediately, would stop. But that's not what I will do. I can't do that. All right, so what's that tell you? What I've told you all along, he's running and he's the FrontRunner. Cut number four is going to be a central feature of this campaign. Got number four. And by the way, we should not allow Manning. To play in women's sports. All right. It's an applause line. That's a super majority line. Democrats hate that Republicans love that. It's going to continue. Last cut from Donald Trump. I'll do some Pence cuts after the break. Cut number 5. Finally, to secure our country, we have to secure our borders and there's never been anything like what's taking place at our border. Our open borders are a gaping wound allowing drugs, gangs, child traffickers, human smugglers, and tens of thousands of dangerous criminals to foreign to our country. That's every week.
'What in the World Happened to Elise Stefanik?'
"Got to tell you now. Finally, last story of the morning, New York Times Pete Werner, says, what in the world happened to at least defend it? Whenever you see one of those headlines what in the world happened to. It's a hit piece. I've been the subject of lots of what in the world happened to you here. When someone disagrees with you, they suggest that you've changed. But in fact, they changed. And I said, that's what you got to understand. Pete wehner has changed. Not at least the fan it. A least of fennec is a Republican leader who is leading a different kind of Republican Party that Pete wehner had a big role in pizza friend of mine, but those kinds of pieces are hit pieces. And mostly it's pizza upset about the attack on the one 6 committee.
The Top 10 Cities With Emerging Housing Markets
"The number one city for emerging housing markets yesterday. Elkhart goshen in Indiana. Number two, Burlington, North Carolina. Number three, Johnson City, Tennessee, number four. Fort Wayne Indiana, Indiana doing very well in this study. Number 5, billings Montana. It comes with a snow shovel from Andrew and Todd when you buy a house there. Raleigh, North Carolina kind of makes sense to me. That's number 6. Rapid City South Dakota is number 7. It felt a little bit in the rankings every year, but still that people are moving to Rapid City because it's affordable. North, port, Sarasota, Bradenton, Florida, is an 8th place. Again, we're talking about low cost states, low tax states. Number 9 to pick up Kansas. To pick a Kansas and rounding out the top ten improbably the salia Porterville. Dwayne is looking at me like, this hell yeah, Porterville? Yeah. You ever been to Visalia? I'm not sure that that would be my recommendation to anyone moving out of favor. For about 5 minutes.

A long dark cold winter, and we better look, if you don't want to be cold in the winter and roasting in the summer, you better get a bunch of nuclear power plants built in your country, the new ones, the good ones, including the United States.

"News works these days is that it comes to you. No matter where you are or what you're doing. Like, when you're hanging out in your couch on a Thursday night at 11 o'clock in your phone buzzes and it says that Alec Baldwin accidentally killed someone? Well, I think obviously there's the sort of the lurid aspect right that it's an Oscar nominated Emmy winning beloved actor involved in a terrible tragedy. It's a very rare thing that happens, so that's why it continues to kind of dominate the news cycle. But Brent Lang is an executive editor over at variety. If you dig a little deeper it points to some fundamental issues involving safety on film sets and television sets. And some larger labor problems that have been exposed in recent months. And really a growing sense of grievance among the grips and gaffers and camera operators and makeup artists and all of the hundreds of people who allow us to enjoy these movies and shows that we stream and we binge and we buy tickets for a non pandemic times who are frustrated that they feel that they've been sort of pushed to the breaking point and often asked to engage in unsafe work practices. Well, I want to get there, but let's start with what we know happened on this set. Let's start with this movie. It's called rust and clearly no one had heard of it until last week. And frankly, probably a movie that no one would hear that much about. It looks like it was a very low budget action film. I think vultures called them geezer teasers. Their films with kind of high end actors who come in and do these sort of action oriented movies that get sold to foreign markets and appear on.

And that's what i love to see where people like yourself and it's easy to say things like this where we were coming from and they go. Oh that's sounds easy. But here's the one little thing that people don't tell you you need to love. The process is much. They view not gonna make a shiny little red penny love. Would you do that much. And it's not about love what you sell or love. What you do for a living is about the love the emulate the process of that smile. And i love that record I loved how agile he was at fell out of all the artists that are listening to e kind of the nil lead. But i was feeling in this country. Our and maybe ron december so the ticket started to go on sale for the concert. In april eight in orlando half and my wife was like nazi by digging go. "Is your feeling about. The gaze of the the gays over kobe movements and <hes>. The phenomenon of gaze having parties. And what if you read the velvet rage just about the party. It's any those parties. I've been to those parties. I used to work at those parties. I was in atlanta's comedian for using years. So i've been parties all over the world and it's phenomenon that as far as i'm concerned it's a great place to visit as like an anthropological study and i can say that i'm not patronizing. It's just that. I've never been one of those boys. I like being a part of the party and liked being invited to the party but when it came down to it i looked at everybody on. I'm not one of these boys. Just because that's never been my currency to be kind of a to have the body and to have the circuit party body and a to have that group of friends that is exclusively hot and and muscley. That's coming from a really. That's coming from a really am trying to find the appropriate word. Needy isn't the right word. But it's that's coming from a need to be accepted. Adopt seated need to be accepted. And when i when. I said to you know nobody feels like there are enough. That's doubly true for queer kids growing up. It's like you're never accepted essentially as who you are. And so a lot of queer people grow up with the need. I have to be gaga. I have to be a superstar amazing. It's not enough for me to be me. And i can say that because that was me for most of my adult life then you come to l. a. and then you don't work for three years and then you have to figure out who you are. You know you have to figure out who you are without a job without the car without the body without any of those things and then you find out what your currency is just as just as a human being and <hes>. So when i see those things. I'm i i get it. I'm strangely not judgmental. I get that because when you go to those parties who who's been was circuit party. Raise your hand just to. I've been to the white party. Wants beloved by choice. Yeah you didn't go there bunch. You work like a dave holmes. No no no. No i am about to combust from self consciousness at all times just everywhere in the world so there i feel like i just. There's no way that it would be anything other than well area. Certainly but it is fun. And then there's there's you add on top of the drugs you add a top booze or whatever you're taking and it's it's a euphoric experience. You know it's kind of like it is. It is the closest you'll feel to being kind of young and beautiful and amazing and you get the high off of that but you know like most heiser. It doesn't last and it doesn't really ever kind of penetrate the the real need to interdict engage a lonely way you can still attend those things and have a billion people around you and still feel sad. You know it's it's <hes>. It's it's a thing. And so when i saw the gays and covid as like well here we go. I mean that outweigh that need outweighs. The need to be safe. But you know it's nothing new. I mean i was in new york during the eighties and there were people who were still going bath houses. There are people who are still having unsafe sex or people who still you know who who would not participate in any of the safe sex guidelines because they still wanted to engage in that way.

"Back now to our conversation with Shelby Emmett and Lisa graves. Lisa. Let me give you a chance to react to Shelby's last common. And then we'll keep going with more audience questions. Thanks, joshua. Well, you know, I documented the actual history of that stand your ground legislation, and what we know is that the NRA lobbyists took that Bill to an Alec meeting closed door session in Texas that was co chaired by WalMart at the time. The biggest retailer bullets in the world in the biggest seller of rifles, and it was voted on by corporate members. And Alec legislators to make it a national model. That's how that Bill move. Forward was at the NRA's urging while Alec has a hounded the fact that it's not currently one of its models. Alec has done nothing to get those bills repealed across the country, the bills that it helped push into law, and that's the case with voter ID and other measures as well. And so you have a situation which Alec wants to distance itself from the pass without actually doing any repair of those measures. And then in the current context a number. Of the Alec legislators in the states have been accused of sexual harassment or sexual misconduct. Alec has been silent on those. I think Alec hides win it sees controversy. And does a lot of PR spin was regards to the NRA and the standard ground. How how do we know about this? What's what's the for that? Well, I went through and found open records material that we obtained we also went through historical records archives of lawmaker databases, and I've got the material to show exactly how that Bill moved through Florida. And how it was introduced at the Alec meeting that the NRA introduced it. And and also that WalMart co-chaired the meeting at the time. So there's ample documentation, you can find out more at Alec exposed. You can also find out materials through documented dot net and some of our reporting on the intercept dot com. She'll be before we keep Well, I I want to address the issues of sexual harassment as a woman as women who works in an organization ram by a female CEO. That's just quite disgusting. We are an organization we're not legislators parents. And if they did act in a ridiculous horrific way towards women or anybody else, they should be held accountable for that by their voters and their states and by their constituents, but to be a female into work under a female CEO that that's just the spectacle that she would say something like that, quite frankly, Tom wrote this quote about Alec from former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson, the quote is I always loved going to meetings because I always found new ideas. And then I take them back to Constan disguise them a little bit and declare that it's mine I'm interested in that quote show be particularly because there are a number of lawmakers who spoken very openly about how much they love. Alec Senator Rick Scott, who's Florida's former governor? Now, a Senator representing Florida had this to say about why he thinks Alec is important, and this is from YouTube video on Alex YouTube channel, I know that with less regulation. More more good things happen. We've been able to Florida to cut fifty four. I think it's fifty four or five. Eighty five hundred regulations and with with that we've had unbelievable prosperity now in DC, I'm gonna do my best to make sure that Washington's quits telling us what to do we should let her states make their own decisions. We need to have laboratories now, I wanna make sure Florida's the best laboratory, of course. But, you know, Alex, doing a great job and thanks for all your hard work to make sure that we keep state's rights, and we don't have continued federal government tried to take over all of our rights. That's florida. Senator Rick Scott who previously represented Florida as its governor. Shelby. What's your take on the appeal of Alec to lawmakers? Sure. I think what the appeal is it will look happening in DC right now..

"The time. So I'll say right here right now, you should come to our next Alec beating thing it's in Austin in August at the end of the day, we are no different than so many other organizations nonprofits that have meetings, and conferences, and forums, and panels and work with business leaders and businesses all across the country. So I just I just don't see what the difference is there. But if you invited me Alex conference, I I'd go I mean. It'd be great. But I know that wherever I am in Austin is not where these private meetings will be because they're private. So there's the part that I see as a journalist. And I know there's also this other part that I won't see because I'm not allowed to to go because I'm not I'm not told. I mean, if there's something private that's the whole point of keeping it private is. So that I can't see it well, not necessarily. So like, I said we all have task forces and task force directors, and there's been quite a few meetings to where we've worked with members. And we said, hey, you know, we would love to have these people come in. So they can see what's going on and be part of the conversation. I would just encourage you to reach out early, and we can see what we can do with those particular meetings outside of that though, I do want to address this idea that things are rushed through at the state level. That's just wrong. So first of all, let's remember that all of these bills are always posted online as an individual you can register with different websites that will give you different models in different bills that are being introduced, and then you should be. Gaijin contact your lawmakers, and let them know how you feel about these things. So none of this is rush through. None of this is done under the cover of darkness. And quite frankly lot of the things that have been brought up have been from years ago. We're talking about twenty twelve and we're not talking about the future. And what we're doing right now on the great work that we are doing what about the point Lisa brought up in terms of Alec being classified as a nonprofit rather than as a lobbying organization. This would seem to be highly material to the conversation in terms of the amount of oversight of an organization where the money goes where it can come from and the amount of access. It's allowed to have to lawmakers. She'll be can you clarify? What is Alec? Is it a lobbying organization or it? So we are a C three. I'm sorry a five oh one C threes part of Moscow's governs, nonprofits, NPR's a five. Oh one. Exactly. Yeah. So we have Alec which is our safe three. And then we do have Alec action, which is our C four which again, so many other organizations also have you for example, Planned Parenthood as a seat three a four side as well. Multiple organizations. Nations do so yes, all of those of us on staff who are part of Alex staff, we are on the C three side. And then we also have a C four side that is run on the C four side. So we follow everything that we're supposed to follow. And we follow him play by the rules. We what about that? In terms of Alec being classified as a five. Oh, one C three. I mean, it occurs to me that a number of organizations are five threes that might surprise people another five, oh one C three that was ruled a five oh one C three in the same year as Alec in one thousand nine hundred eighty three was parts of the NFL. The NFL foundation is classified as a five. Oh, one C three. The national organization has some nonprofit protections that may seem odd to the public. But I wonder if that's Alex responsibility or responsibility in terms of the way, the group is regulated. Well, Alex has only recently added a thief for for the bulk of its history for decades, it operated as a theory, and it told.

"Finally, your genius shall be recognized. This is one A. I'm Joshua Johnson. Dan, tweeted, private sector representatives should not have a seat at the table. Able when determining public policy Shelby would react today. So first and foremost, of course, they should private companies are just as much part of our everyday communities as public officials, if not more I can't think of someone else more better to talk about what's facing businesses. What they need. What struggles they're having? What could be done better someone who's been in government their entire life? As a lawmaker for forty fifty years doesn't understand the modern times like a business person does. But let's also remember your federal government, the actual people that are passing laws in the state level the same time, they're also meeting with private sector members every day, the people that pass the Affordable Care Act met with the health care industry every single day, and they should because the whole point is people in government don't necessarily have the answers to everything when you bring together diverse ideas and different perspectives. You get to the best solution. Alec draw the line though, Shelby in terms of the appropriate place for the private sector in that conversation. I hear what you're saying. I mean, if if you are sitting law or regulation that. Ex- businesses, you know, their their businesses including small businesses. You might say, hey, here's something you might want to consider where is the line as Alex sees it between the proper place of businesses of the private sector in setting policy and overreach where is that zone. So within our organization internally within our procedures, it's the public sector members that introduced the legislation within obviously, the formal preceding if a Bill is then introduced then each state operates with its own levels of transparency, so states all over the country, for example, have ethics laws and reporting for different lobbyists. The same thing that happens at the federal level. So there's already laws around things like campaign, finance and all those great things, but within the organization, private and public sectors come together. But it's the public sector members that actually introduced the policy Lisa, how do you see it? Well, what we know is that the corporations vote as equals with the politicians in those Alec passwords meetings. And we know that. In many instances, those bills come out of Alec and they're introduced in state houses and rush through with very little input from the actual citizens of that state. We saw that time and time again after the two thousand ten elections when Alec majorities took over different state houses, and you saw that with the bills attacking the rights of labor unions and more changes to rules for torts where basically the legislators went back charged with this legislation that the corporations wanted pursued, and they pushed them through often with little notice if any notice and very few hearings Alec caters to the climate change denial machine. Basically, it has elevated the positions of the heartland institute. That's the group that basically created people who believe that climate change is happening with the unit bomber that's impart. How it lost Exxon is a member last year over the efforts to basically change the rules for regulating carbon in this country and part of how Hartland loss. Exxon is a member last year. That's how Alec Alec loss. Exxon as a member of this past year, and then this past summer Alec featured David Hurwitz in not one, but two panels Horowitz's infamous for a basically saying that Obama is a secret Muslim and other really hateful claims and after that Berezin left Alec along with a number of other corporations..

"Now have a second opportunity to embrace everything that this country can offer to somebody, and we believe in second chances a lot of those policy started is original alad model bills and started in the states. So I think it's pretty disheartening to hear such rhetoric like extreme all this is an organization that's committed to basic principles of free markets. Limited government in federalism. And I don't that. That's just doesn't make sense. But I think you do see the concern Shelby that some folks likely so and I'm sure others have about the potential for this organization that they may not know about. And of course, you know, what you fear what you don't understand. But the potential of this organization that brings together lawmakers and business interests and nonprofits in ways that seem. Opaque to write laws as opposed to just me as a citizen of a state believing that the only person who's influencing my laws is my lawmaker. Well, I do want to correct you on that. So Alec does not write laws. We have members that introduced model policy that then becomes Alec model policy. That's all there at the end of the day. If semantic though I mean, if you're writing policy that turned into a law, reminding the SEC. Says at the end of the day, let this still has to go through your state legislative process, if a member chooses to support any model policy that you see they introduce it in their state legislature. It goes through their committee process. The American people the citizens of that state are a part of that committee process. They can go to every here, and you can go onto any state legislative website and see bills that are drafted right now. I want to talk a little bit more about that interface between Alec and lawmakers which part of the point of the hour when we continue. I'm Joshua Johnson.
