Fifty years ago. He was on the opposite side of an insurrection. This movement back in nineteen seventy one. When a group known as the republic of new afrika was making waves throughout mississippi. Why because the fbi was closely watching as it was trying to put together a movement to take if necessary by force land from people in mississippi louisiana georgia south carolina and alabama and create a separate nation on us l. called the republic of new afrika. So you know just to be explicit here. Ethnic separatists in america. That's yes they actually wrote their own declaration of independence. Chicago mayor proposes search warrant changes after botched raid

"Mayor life it unveil major reforms to what CPD does with a search warrant process. Following the botched raid of Anjanette Young's home in 2019 life. It says the new policy, then advised box raves requires they be reported immediately to supervisors, something that did not happen in the case of engine at young. We haven't heard a peep. From the inspector general on this issue. Where's he been? Same thing regarding Copa opened up an investigation in November of 19 and it for far as I can tell, did nothing for over a year until the video of Anjanette Young burst onto the scene. Under the plan, all warrants need to be approved by a deputy chief or higher. Female officer needs to be present for the execution of a warrant, and all officers must have their body cameras turned on the executive order, which is the form it is taking. Is open to public comment. Mayor Lightfoot actions are being looked at by 49th Ward Alderman Maria Haddon. She wants a public hearing in my opinion that someone prior to elected office but my career working on participatory democracy and and reopen unity engagement. Lightfoot, Chicago Police Propose Changes to Search Warrant Policy in Wake of Botched Raid

"The second time since she became mayor of chicago lori. Lightfoot is changing the policy for win in house city. Police can execute search warrants. it comes as the chicago. Police department is under scrutiny. For botched raids including one that led to a lawsuit from ginette young. Amanda finicky joins us now with more. Amanda prentice once viewed. It is hard race that horrifying video of engine at young home and changing so naked. When chicago police burst into her home. An officer did eventually put a blanket over her but for a long stretch shoot was left. Naked wall restrained in handcuffs. When you see body camera video later on in the story you will see a black box that has heard digitally covered up by vesey. Pd when it made the footage public following investigative reporting by wb pm traumatic experience for young especially given police. Were in the wrong home. Mayor lightfoot premised change today. pd makes good on his promise to change. How search warrants are served in chicago. It's always the right time to do the right thing. We should always be volving to improve our policies training and accountability now new standards and procedures announced by cpi de chief david brown and mayor lightfoot required higher ranking command staff to sign off on requests for a warrant before it is brought to a state's turning judge considerations and plans must be made if vulnerable people. Mike children may be present than what a search is actually executed. A female officer must be present. Police must wear in activate body cameras. Lieutenant must also be on site and responsible for officers behavior the plan upfront spells out. What type of behavior is expected. All department members will treat all persons with courtesy and dignity which is inherently do every person and will act speak and conduct themselves in a courteous respectful and professional manner. And then it goes on from there. This is common sense but this is now enshrine in the actual policy. New policy does still allow for so called. No knock warrants but limited circumstances like when he life is in danger a fourth amendment allows for that to happen but only in certain circumstances where there's an establishment that evidence of a crime will be found in a particular location on no matter. How you slice it. It is an intrusion and so making sure that we get the facts details right and that there is ownership at the highest levels of c pd. It's critically important and please do get things wrong if there's bad evidence or something. The situation like what happened to young wrong raid. That has to be investigated. That's another safeguard that i believe. Personally it's critically important that the judge be notified that there was a one raid asked whether he's concerned that a standards click police in peril in potentially dangerous situations. Your brown responded. The real question you're asking is if treating someone with respect gets in the way of doing our job and the answer is no so following these policies and procedures with an emphasis on. Everyone deserves a measure of respect actually enhances our ability to do our job and create an environment of trust in the community. Which again is a force. Multiplier beanie effective at reducing. Cra in an email the president of the chicago fraternal order of police said that you had plenty of reaction to these new standards but he did not immediately. Follow up an email with specifics. The proposal did get the non from alderman. Chris taliaferro is head of the city council's public safety committee and also a former cia so these reforms that the mayor is announcing today will help bring about true accountability true responsibility but in a statement. Young's attorney says the proposal falls woefully short of the types of reforms that the citizens of chicago require to feel secure in their homes from these violent and often wrongful rates if the mayor is truly serious about reform statement says she'll get signed. An ordinance announced last week by a handful of black alderman also has the backing of progressive groups like lack lives matter and united working families and that plan does no knock. Warrants also expressly prohibits officers from pointing guns toward children and there is time for young the coalition of group. She's aligned with and really anybody else who wants to have their opinion made known about us to do social is going to have a fifteen day public comment period before these standards go into effect. It's a short period of time. Fifteen days and so encourage a france. You let's use social media Not just for passing around jokes and having a good time. Let's use this to improve our city.

"Early at my childhood. I was invited to have a play date. My white friends never had a play. That so i want to megan's house. The streets were wider. The homes were bigger and brighter. It was obvious that it was the barrier race that kept us from that because the segregation was race spaced even here evanston illinois or proudly liberal suburb of chicago. The barrier and burden of race have long weighed heavy. Like a winter storm. This is alderman for the fifth ward. Robin ru simmons was born and raised in the historically black neighborhood. She represents this community was red. Line historically and that has come along with Damages that continue today resources were stripped away from the black community along with wealth as well. The city's plan to change that reparations. In idea long-debated proposed over one hundred and fifty years ago. I forty acres of land later mule for formerly enslaved people to share the american dream built on their backs for free. Promise long broke until now. This is a historic vote. Evanston is set to become the first. Us city to pay out reparations. A total of ten million dollars starting with increments of up to twenty five thousand dollars per person for housing. I didn't start my electic. Career even discussing reparations rich. I was looking at data. I was looking at what we had done. And reparations was the only answer the only the only the only any more of the same was gonna only at best help us sustain the oppressed state and the disparity that we have only. That's a big word. The only legislative response for us to reconcile the damages in the black community as reparations why housing housing specifically and homeownership is a path to begin to build. Well when you have stable housing you have an opportunity just to breathe and think about what's next. It provides a sense of place in the community where we're largely renters now and we should be owning. We anticipate litigation with the premise that we cannot use tax money. That's from public to benefit. A particular group of people throughout history taxes were used to benefit a certain group of people while others were excluded from that dino robinson is a founder of shorefront an archive dedicated to chronically celebrating. Black life in evanston a richness long undervalued. His documentation going back to the late eighteen hundreds invaluable in measuring the cost of racism. And the need for reparations of members were moving throughout evanston informing. You know pockets in the city of evanston and it caused the white communities are panic. Like what do we do about this. The response to that panic redlining federally sanctioned project assigning market value to neighborhoods a grading system a to d. The d areas usually relegated to the black community. The area d. was always read. This deliberately pushed evanston black families into an area that became the fifth ward. Segregating them from white families sought after property and ultimately wealth. Things were not loan to black families. Real estate agencies would not show you other than fifth ward. That map still is. The map of are concentrated. Black community are disinvestment today. White residents of evidence have nearly double the income in home value of black residents. This racial wealth gap is prevalent nationally. Black-americans possessing less than fifteen percent of the wealth. That white americans have who i am. Nineteen years old. We moved to evanston in nineteen fifty nine black residents who lived through red line again. Their descendants are eligible for reparations. That includes ben gain senior and his son then junior then senior grew up in nineteen twenties dixon kentucky part of the old south the business end of an era most violent weapon against african americans. Jim crow. He landed in evanston here. Jim crow war smile but still inflicted harm on black homebuyers contractor said fan a lot and it. We're in evanston bill. "Plan yesterday to tighten up the rules that CPD has to follow to get a search warrant to response to the wrongful raid of the home of Anjanette Young, who stood naked, covered only in a blanket eventually, while officers questioned her alderman Ray Lopez, as clearly the administration is blocking average trying trying to to move move on on this this latest latest generation generation of of Warn Warn execution execution reform reform is is the the third third in in as as many many months months and and engine engine that that young young story story first first broke. broke. Anjanette Young police raid prompts Chicago aldermen to push for search warrant changes

"Chicago Older women introduced a plan today to tighten the rules to obtain and execute search warrants, followed by the botched raid at the home of Anjanette Young by Chicago police in 2019. Young was forced to stand naked for about 45 minutes handcuffed while police searched her apartment after she repeatedly told them they were in the wrong home. Young is confident the measure will pass. I am confident because there is a lot of support in my community. I am confident because the there too. The two schools social work here in the city of Chicago, support me as a social worker, and they're on board. The question is forward. And I just believe that we're gonna continue to push this until it happened. So I'm very confident that we're gonna move forward with it. That Mayor life. Let's not so sure the police Department itself has been working diligently. If my quick read of the ordinance, it doesn't reference any of the current practices or procedures of the police department. Regarding search warrants, which I think is problematic in and of itself. The ordinance would outlaw no knock warrants and prohibit police from relying solely on information from informants.

Hot mic catches Mayor Lori Lightfoot swearing during Chicago City Council meeting

"So moving over to city news. First off that hot mic. That caught mayor lori. Lightfoot cursing after alderman. Rosanna rodriguez sanchez. Spoke about a resolution honoring black history month during today's city council meeting today. Let's take another look to have contributed to make this city a better place for all. Thank you thank you. All the chair recognizes alderman. Jim gardner okay heather. What happened here while my reporting shows that she had just been informed at that moment that alderman burke and alderman lopez to of her fiercest critics on the city council had joined forces. And we're going to block of vote on the big federal relief package. That was on. Today's agenda alderman. Ed burke has been at odds with mayor lori lightfoot since the beginning she ran on sort of rooting out corruption in city hall and she painted him as the face of everything that is wrong with chicago politics and she's been at odds with random lopez. You know basically from the moment. He is an ally of alderman bark and he has been highly critical of how how she has approached on her time in office. She was vulnerable on this issue because she was being fiercely condemned by progressive groups. Alderman burke and alderman lopez. They had their own questions about it and they saw this as an opportunity to exact. Some perhaps political revenge enforce all of us to come back friday afternoon chewed see if they can get this passed against.

"God Willing Creek Don't rise. I was listening to are relatively new morning show today. Bruce ST James, and he had a alderman. It was Alderman Ray Lopez. And I believe Ray is one of the 33 aldermen who have signed a letter essentially saying they're backing Theo the union for lack of a better descriptor. And they don't mind that some of the teachers are hesitant to go back to work goal is to bring everyone to the table and have a discussion and if they leave Equally unhappy. That means you've probably come to a good compromise I agree with so Ray Lopez this morning, said a few things that we have not had any clear vision. Come out of T P s or the mayor's office with regards to how do you continue to educate our Children? During this pandemic, so I thought we ought to check in with one of our favorite alderman. That would be, of course, Alderman Brien Hopkins of the second Ward, who joins us now on double DS your thoughts on the safety concerns. For CPS teacher's going back. They were supposed to go back today for training. A number of them didn't are you upset or are you supported this? Yeah, That's a hard question. Answer. It's it's a mixed bag. I can sympathize with teachers who woke up this morning and just said I'm not comfortable. Um, but at the same time, we need to be doing everything possible to get to the point. We're comfortable. We can't use this as an excuse, for example, to go on vacation, you know, to stay home just because some some of that is also clearly happening. So I can't condemn the teachers who decided on staff who decided they weren't going to come in today, But at the same time, they really have to look at their motivation and get on board here to get to the table rather than just saying schools aren't safe. Tell us what you think you would need to feel comfortable. You know, let's let's just get there because it's possible to say that schools can't be made safe that it's an impossibility is nonsense. The private schools in the parochial schools, the schools in Europe, even in heck have proven otherwise. It's possible to get to a place where schools are safe for Children to return, so we need to focus on that and do what it takes to get there. I don't think it's a science problem. I don't think it's a safety problem. I think it's a union problem. Well, I signed the letter on the reason I signed the letter was because in the briefing I had a couple of weeks ago, I did feel it was a science problem. The questions that I asked, were solely focused on ventilation infiltration. I got the briefing on all the other medications and all the other safety measures that CPS was taken. I find them all to be wholly adequate and sufficient. Where I was not satisfied was in the answers that I got with regard to ventilation and filtration measures. And I told CPS this and that, in fact have been on the phone with them several times today where, you know they're trying to get me to the point where I could say I'm now satisfied and we're making progress. We're making progress. And and I think it is possible that you know before this is over. I may be sending my own letter back to CPS saying, Okay, you guys have done what you need to do. And I'm satisfied with the measures that have been taken to prevent the airborne spread of this virus. When we get several 100 kids and faculty and staff in the same indoor environment, it seems like we're going to a great Deal of trouble and expense to just make up a small portion of the Chicago Teachers union feel a little bit safer. Why don't we say Look, you're you're free to stay home. It's everybody's freedom to stay home and not work If you don't feel safe, but you don't know save inherent right to get paid for not working. Yeah, well, and now you're getting into collective bargaining issues there, you know, and that zoo whole nother can of worms. I don't think we want to open right now. The union is already trying to say that this should be bargaining related is if we were talking about, you know salaries in vacation time. We're not. We're not talking about the conditions of their employment contract. We're talking about the larger environment that teaching happens in. That shouldn't be a collective bargaining matter. But it should. It should, however, be something that all staff whether you're a teacher, Custodian administrator. Anyone who's in the building you are a stakeholder. And the measures that are being taken to make that building safe and you absolutely deserve a seat at the table. But as I said, come to that seat with the idea That we're going to find a way where we can all say OK, we've done it. We can go back to school now and it's safe on. I see foot dragging from the union that suggests, you know they may not be approaching it from a standpoint of good safety. How foolish is it for? Ah Union official to say Oh, no. Follow these safety protocols and then, uh, post photographs of her Caribbean vacation. You know, the optics of that are just terrible on dit contributes to this confrontational environment that we're in right now where you've got the leadership of the union and the leadership of the school system, the administration and the mayor's office. Engaged in this public relations battle TOC who can make each other look bad if there was ever a time where we should all be putting aside our political differences. It's now literally lives are at stake and the health of our Children. Can we can we just put that aside for now and focus on the best interests of our Children? On and put aside all of these political differences. That is what the situation is calling for its calling for leaders to step up in collectively after an act in the best interest of CPS families. Ottoman. Thank you for your time this afternoon. Much appreciated, sir. Happy New Year and we'll have you back soon. I'm sure. Thank you. Happy New Year. Take care Alderman Brien Hopkins from the second Ward here, Joining us on double DLS were getting update on traffic..

"About what's going on in the City Council with Mayor Lightfoot. Who? Alderman Lopez generally does not agree completely. And what do you two agree about? You guys have a favorite dessert, Or is there some place that the minds meet with you and marry Lightfoot? Alderman Lopez? We agree that the sun will rise in the morning. I think that's about it. You are her Edvard Iliac, I think is this that we're kind of feel like we're getting back to the council Words of my youth. I think people like to make that kind of comparisons that the most recent in memory where we've seen all them in and the mayor fight, But I think our differences are not race for, uh or based on skin color. We have very much ideological differences, which I think is Very much noticeable. When you look at the coalition of people who seem to constantly be standing up against her, they trained they be incorporate many demographics in many parts of the city of Chicago. Unlike fight to the past, which usually look white Mama You broke up for a second there, Alderman Lopez. You there? E thought I've got married life. Forget you there for a second. Um, you're right. It is much different, of course, And there's two ways to look at things you know, there used to be a City council. That was a bit of a rubber stamp. Apologize if you don't like that, But under Mary Manual, certainly under Mayor Daley In the past, it seemed that everybody agreed on a lot that the mayor wanted or the negotiations were in back rooms and a lot of things past pretty pretty solidly. And now we're getting to a point where there's more disagreement, more discussion. That's not necessarily a bad thing. And one might even argue that that's the point of it. You know, the Senate is supposed to argue about things in City Council shouldn't just be a rubber stamp. You guys should argue and try to find the best solutions and push people back and forth. There should be checks and balances. So would you say that? Hey, let's not think this is the worst thing in the world that we're all fighting about things. No, I don't think it's I don't think it's bad it all that alderman and the mayor are sometimes at odds with each other. As long as what what you produced at the end of the day is for the betterment of the city of Chicago. If you're just fighting to be petty and bitter and personal Obviously, what we're doing is wrong. But if you're actually fighting to make a difference, and to train push and pull the other side to make a more perfect law or a better program, it's absolutely worth it. We only have a couple of minutes after I do want to ask you Alderman Lopez. I apologize because this wasn't on the docket to talk about today. But you were talking a lot about transparency and what you want out of out of the mayor and out of City Council and out of all of our elected politicians. And so I just want to ask you about the Puppy Mill ordinance because the Tribune wrote an article a couple of weeks ago about a puppy mill ordinance here in Chicago that it's been around for a while. That you're proposing in New Orleans and they're saying you've received from donations from from pet stores that they're tying into your what? They're calling reversal on this policy. Can you comment on that for me? We received our we were. We were in receipt of almost 2000 donations, which we were coming back to the people who sent them dollars in donations right now, $2000, right? Not 2000. Correct? Nearly Yeah. $2000 in donations, which we sent back to those people invested or owners of pet stores. At the end of the day. What we have seen is that the ordinance that is being proposed to try to close the loopholes with regards to puppy mills from 2014 creates a whole new set of of Loopholes that are going to allow for backyard breeding throughout every neighborhood in the city of Chicago. Another loophole This ordinance that was produced by myself and introduced by altering Coleman and I worked to try to put some standards when it comes to both rescues and pet shops. And where the sourcing of animals comes from. Let's be very clear about something dead. The ordinance that deals with puppy mills has not closed a single puppy mill. Anywhere in this country, and the language that is introduced by Ultimate Coleman and myself, has, in fact been accepted as great language by the Humane Society and other parts of the country. So why they have an objection to it being used here is beyond me, whether those donations to get your point Had any influence? No, because I didn't accept the donation. They were all turned back. Which is why most of the donations that were given do not show up on my report because it checks were sent back without ever being cashed. Is it true that the part of your proposal would be that, um, breeders that were found to be in good standing would be a you know, stores would be allowed to sell from breeders. Listen, I have ah, pure bred golden Golden doodle that I got from a place in in Indiana that that I found online and researched a little bit And I knew you know what I could that it was good. And so the tough part, though, is it seems, is that how is that regulated if a pet store was allowed to sell a puppy because we know it came from a good facility. How are we regulating and knowing that That is a good facility that they're getting that puppy from Well, there's certainly English that is in the ordinance that has been used in both at the federal level, which was advocated for by the Humane Society off the United States has been incorporated in this so that everything is Basically on a universal standard, but also when it comes to the fact that.

roadways a lot of people have been safer we've we trending in the right direction as far as highway fatalities which is always a good a good thing to hear but we don't want to catch up Shannon however how can we expect to law enforcement to be out there protecting us and enforcing some of these laws or all hello that's right traffic you know we talked earlier about the you know the increase vehicles on the road that occur so you know with that the department of transportation utilize federal tax dollars to come back to Illinois and the purpose of that was issue to grant them out to communities while the heart and soul of that that program is to to past the pharmacy stacks dollars on to local law enforcement the step up enforcement at times when that vehicle heavier crashes are more likely to occur so that's why you you know you hear the commercials you see the new stories that's why you know you when I get to get to talk during these times because you know these are times that you know more more tragedy certainly the potential for more tragedy on our roads is there and and actually does occur to sell you'll see an increased presence not only in your local community but out on those state highways expressways with the Illinois state police on both the tollway and then the the other expressways up there you'll see that increase presences as the night goes on you'll leave and you know see the rotate safety checks describe the check points if you will better out there for one simple reason to prevent driving at a time when it occurs most often and that's after after nine PM and of course along with that as you said force all the laws law enforcement will certainly be looking for a buckled motorists you know given a ticket for that front backseat doesn't matter how to buckle child that's bad too and you know the the last thing that we talked about here certainly isn't the last traffic law but one of the one of the really kind of the one of the big ones right now is that that distracted driving so yeah we'll be looking for that too yeah it it really is the most I guess the most recent that has become a little bit bigger in people's minds because now if they're even holding their phone they can get busted for its and like you said now it is in fact a moving violation so three three violations is it within a year yeah pretty much everything has a point to find so that's what you're going to be looking at it be the same thing is getting like three speeding tickets as long as they work you know twenty five miles per hour apple A. somebody gets you know three speeding tickets within a twelve month period you're going to you're going to get your license suspended for a little bit of time same thing now with with distracted driving offense are the seat belt violations moving violations are those just check thing they actually or not and and never have been and in a little while yet you know you still have to pay that fine or show up to court if you want to if you wanna try to fight it yeah that's what often happens there that was somebody will get pulled over for speeding or something else of also not be buckled up and in another phone and they're like there you go there live tweeting the whole thing I am I don't even know how to do that but I'm really fast we've been talking about this in years past and we haven't touched on this yet for impaired drivers there pulled over they they test positive or they have their over the limit for their breathalyzer what happens for first time offenders is it just a check it or are they still doing that is it is a really bad system like not system but about a fact it's easy it's something you don't want to encounter here's what happens face just keep it simple you pulled over for whatever reason let's say it's it's driving left of center legally if it's something like that announcer observed summer radic driving pleasure over comes up observe maybe smelled alcohol effect you know that will prompt number two you know pursue Hey have you been drinking that night step out of the car to go through standard field sobriety testing that then gives that officer you know enough probable cause to go and make that a rush for for drunk driving transport to the station and that's where you submit an actual breast tester you're asked to if you submit to that like you said in a blow over a point in late off your place you under arrest and at that point administratively you're going to lose your license as the case itself you know makes its way through the through the courts that officers hands with cold swarm report down to the secretary of state's office and you're given a notice Hey on the state you know you were arrested you lose your driving privileges forty six day after that date at which point and then what you brought up if you want driving relief during that time you'll have to have the ignition interlock which is a device on your car Jeff to blow blow into essentially submit to a breathalyzer test to prove that you have a big drinking before your your car will start and while your drive yeah even periodically my favorite part yeah because you've got it you can't have somebody like your friend or neighbor daughter whatever blow into it so you can start your car and then take off take off now if you do that you know it's random sell five ten minutes can I ask you to hello it's going to be patchy and eventually you know I think the lights start flashing and and different different things for all yeah and the thing about this that we've yet to touch on is the fact that this is that your cost the person who the violator or alleged violator if they do put this into their car so that they can get their driving privileges back while the court proceedings are going on they have to pay for that and this is not cheap hello no it isn't that that's about a hundred dollars to get it installed it's a thirty Bucks a month as a fee to down the secretary of state's office there can be additional fees every month it's going to cost to get it take it back out of your car again and that of course is on top of you know twenty five hundred dollar fine you're going to be paying do you I conviction and you know not to mention of course what happens if you know somebody would hurt injured no matter if that happened or not your insurance going out right it's gone up tremendously so yeah depending on your employment you might lose your job because of yeah if you do if your job directly to driving you if you could be in big trouble but then of course it even if it doesn't have to be able to get to your job itself choice through it has a bad about choice it leads to a lot of bad Sir could be sure take it very seriously it is it is and now we for sure don't want the extra whammy of having your phone it be in your hand even even if it's not on touching it is bad the only safe way to do you use GPS is to have it set up before you go or have a passenger operating that in telling you which way you are supposed to to be turning and then of course you need to be buckled up all passengers in the car and as you mentioned earlier it is buckle up illinois' at dot com or dot org about dot org okay so buckle up Illinois dot org to find an area near you at a location near you where you can get any of those children toddler infant car seats and booster is chat so that you know that those are installed properly and that they're the appropriate car seat for the child who will be riding in them Hannah Stanley this is then beyond sports Shannon aldermen with the Illinois department of transportation it's so good I haven't talked to in awhile it's so nice to get to shell did she to chat with you and have have have good information thus far on on those highway fatalities all right thanks a lot all right my pleasure and again Labor Day weekend people please be safe this is historically not a great weekend for for safe driving so if you can be the change you want to sing on the highway that would be.

"Seven twenty so happy, you decided to join part of your Wednesday night, here with us. Tackling a bunch of different topics here in the first one, we're kind of covering this changing landscape in Chicago politics. And we're joined by Heather Sharon on the daily line. Heather, maybe we overreact two trends all the time. That's a, that's a quota central that we do, whether it's on media in the newspapers and columns and such, but man, we mentioned that one democratic socialist aligned alderman, now, potentially up to six there's definitely this trend started. Well before President Trump his continued through this very anti incumbent flavor. Is this something that you see? And I know it's hard to prognosticate into a crystal ball or anything. Is this part of a growing? Wave of changes is something, you know, these things kinda yoyo back and forth over time. Big would definitely change election. You saw that with the contest between boy, Lightfoot and Tony park. Nicole really being decided on who would. The best too, quick to bring progressive change to the city council, and city hall, and there was no doubt that a number of alderman capitalized on that there appears to be twelve new alderman, not record. But more of those new aldermen are millennials and our Latino than ever before. And that will really change the makeup of the city council after the new term starts it next month is interesting because it's a great early on when you're a freshman, and you come in with a lot of promises, I think activists make great candidates. They don't always make great legislators because they've made a lot of promises along the way. And I think that you look at some older men, you know, being a one term alderman, is probably the norm is that you get these older men that become part of the quote, unquote machine. They get to know their constituents that they could stay no matter, whether they're indicted or not. But there's a lot of pressure pressure on these freshman alderman. Especially in these changing neighborhoods. Absolutely. You saw even more late, but her victory speech on election night, make sweeping promises about the change. She promised to bring city home and alderman has campaigned as well. You know, I'm not little concert. In fact, you saw six alderman. During the Lincoln yards debate, which we were talking about a little bit early protesting and blocking traffic outside city hall while that debate was going on inside the chambers. And if that's not 'lustration of change. That's about this tweet over city hall. I think that I think that fit the question is can those alderman take that sort of energy and passion, and bring it into city hall, and use it to get things done because you can't do anything for single alderman, you've gotta find twenty five others to go with you. And that is much easier said than done, especially in a system that is as confusing and circuitous and wife with challenges as Chicago's a city government. Yeah. And being alderman, I think ninety percent of the job and what ends up getting reelected is your constituency services. It's the non sexy part of politics, but it's what you got to be really good at at and alderman. For many of the new one this is their first elected a position in elected office, or political office. They're very quickly, not only gonna figure out how to build coalitions around the issues that matter to them. But also, they're going to be responsible for delivering services to award of about fifty thousand people that everything from, hey, I need a new garbage can cause the schools to through my garbage. And or the streetlight is out and I need it replaced. And also, there is a house on my block that I think drug dealers have emerged into. Hey, can you help and that's a wide range of skills that you've got to be able to either handle yourself or hire a staff very limited budget to deal with? And in the past newly elected alderman haven't been novices, they'd come up through a ward organization, or that come up through the Democratic Party that they've known sort of how things work. But it's Lasana Rodriguez that mouse, you're gonna come into office, not have been being part of that. Thirty third ward democratic organization and he's gonna come in really fresh for good. Or for ill in terms of both getting legislation packed, but also delivering worser. You imagine the stalwarts in the neighborhood the movers and shakers aligned with Deb mell. I don't want to speak blankly across the whole board. But anyone that was part of it is, supportive, melt may not join in to help out, of course, if you know how to scratch everyone's back, it helps out. Heather, we got to get going. But I just want to leave you the final word here. We didn't talk too much about mayor life, but we talked about it in her in the past. Would you the biggest change inches debate in house city hall is gonna run or the biggest challenge Don day one facing her as she get started? Well, I think she's gotta figure out, whether she's really gonna move to strip alderman of their power to have the final say on project in their wards. She's promised that she will make changes to that. But I don't doubt that she has one into a bit of a brick wall as she starts to, to make her plan. So that's what I am recklessly anticipating as she gets ready to take off thrown. Thank you so much for stopping by here going joy the night. Okay. Well, thanks for having me done. Another course editor at the daily line dot net. Quick break. Then news on extension seven twenty. The AllState skyline studios, the White Sox rain out today. That's why we're onto four o'clock Andy Mazars here doing the pre and post.

"We have fifty aldermen to watch neighborhoods, but only one police superintendent has mirror. I would add three more superintendent and form separate districts fight them to be responsible for and bring it top management to the police force closer to our citizens paid for by Willie Wilson for mayor. Welcome back to the post game show. Chris Boden with you from the United Center after a four three overtime victory over the Vancouver Canucks. Our thanks to Dylan strong for joining us in our opening segment. Let's take you through how this one shook down and the hawks put themselves in a little bit of a bind midway through that. First period as first Gustav forsling rotating back into the lineup today had a holding call the eleven forty four Mark than fifty seconds later Drake could Shula was called for kind of a questionable hooking penalty. So the hawks were down five on three you had to cough, a five on three penalty for a minute ten and they managed to get that done. So for what has been a struggling penalty killer face the same situation on Tuesday night Edmonton, they were able to get the job done here tonight. Then they were presented with the similar situation themselves. Jay beagle. Hooking call at sixteen three fouled up less than a minute and a half later when Brandon Sutter had a slashing call thirty seven seconds of five on three and the cat was able to cash in on that first one hit a stick ricochets away to the right? And got it with town on the five on three advantage. Gustafsen leaves it in the high slot that Kane rolling and got it across. That can't be smart. It's still the central fueling powerplay.
