All right, the wizards force overtime in Cleveland, but a sloppy extra session led to their first loss of the season one 17 one O 7 Bradley Beal sums it up. Do a good job at the end of the game, just staying with it, getting stopped when we needed to limit in an offensive rebound. The Phillies World Series bound for the first time since 2009 by virtue of their game 5 win over the Padres earlier today, the Washington commanders get the better of the Green Bay Packers 23 21. It's your second straight win. The burgundy and gold defense certainly rising to the occasion. They held Green Bay without a third down conversion. It's the first time that's happened to the packers since 1999 and Taylor heinecke overcame an awful start that included an early pick 6. He would make Washington a winner against a team he grew up rooting for making Washington winner on alumni homecoming weekend up in Baltimore. a Bloomberg day break Let's get set for the trading day ahead Another big day for earnings joining us now Charlotte ryland co head of investments at CCLA investment management Charlotte it's great to have you with us this morning as we sort of look at markets treading water ahead of the open but the S&P 500 is riding a 5 day winning streak right now Do you see more room for this rally or maybe more room for volatility It's certainly more room for the city But I mean I think the earning season so far has been pretty good I think about 86% of companies have beaten consensus So all right we'll obviously be on margins and sort of the impact of some of the inflationary costs that we've been seeing coming through But so far it's been it's been reasonably positive Let's talk a little bit more about what we're seeing in terms of margin pressures What do you think of how companies are dealing with the price pressures that they've been seeing over the last few months Yeah I mean I think it completely depends on the actual individual companies I mean if you're a company with decent levels and margins already then obviously that's going to give you a cushion If your company with degree pricing power again that's going to be helpful So we saw Procter & Gamble report yesterday They're talking about inflation repressors problems with freight but they're also saying we're going to be able to pass that through in pricing And we're seeing the same thing from Nestlé today which had very strong results Yes they're seeing some inflation coming through But yes they think they've got that pricing power to deal with it And then in terms of labor companies which have got large amounts of low end labor are probably going to be more vulnerable So something like some of the transportation names et cetera some of the food retail names but if you're again some of the big tech companies who don't happen to employ lots of low end labor then you're probably in a reasonable position Interesting So you mentioned a few consumer discretionary names there Do you see more room for the sort of reflation trade and move back into more cyclical names Yeah I mean I think there's going to be a shift away from something what we've seen when nobody is locked down was putting by button on Amazon and buying a lot of consumer durables I think as we begin to shift into a more open world we're going to see people going out to restaurants more traveling more and particularly in Europe we're beginning to see some of the travel restrictions open up So I think some of those travel related stocks should do reasonably well whether that's the things like Hilton or IHG in the UK So we're going to hear from Tesla after the close today a big piece of the S&P 500 What's your expectation in terms of what that could mean for tech going forward I'm almost as Tesla's running on its own I mean there's obviously a lot of strong long-term trend for electric vehicles Our concern with Tesla is really demand competition going to be getting from the other carmakers coming through Clearly there's been issues in terms of getting hold of chips which is effective the whole industry And so we're still quite positive on some of the trip providers of things like NXP Semiconductor for example But in terms of tech in more generally clearly it's been selling off in September as people worrying about inflation But I'll take on that is there still some very long-term growth trends in place for those technology companies And actually there's quite a lot of reasonable value if you looks of longer term And thinking about the chip shortage of course you think about supply chain issues as well How are you advising your clients to hedge against whether they're transitory or not these inflation pressures that are underway right now Yeah I mean I think I was also quite a lot of it is transitory Whether it be port being shut down in the LA portfolio for example whether it be some of the things like gas shortages we've seen in Europe again that's all that should do with wherever it's to do with Russian politics There's quite a lot of it that we can see as being transitory I think the more interesting question is as we look longer term if we're benefited over the long term from China and low cost labor in that region demographics beginning to move against China Good was shrinking working age population So I think that will put in the longer term a bit more pressure in terms of inflation But those short term figures that we're seeing we would expect to sort of ease off and therefore if you're focused on those companies with pricing power and those companies with hardened resilient returns on capital we think you'll be in regional place Thanks so much Charlotte great having gone with us once again Charlotte ryland is ahead of investments at CCLA investment management All right right now looking at S&P futures they're little change to the downside now Dow futures down 6 NASDAQ futures higher.

"Adam Weiner, Thomas Karen auntie is on assignment today. He refuses to work during the Astros Red Sox ALCS. That's not true. He'll be back on Wednesday. But for now, you've got me and we're talking playoff baseball a couple of moves in Yankees universe. This will be a quick one. Not a lot has changed since the Yankees dismissed all of their coaches on Friday, but we're gonna be talking about Corey Seager, what we're seeing why it's concerning socks astras who's got the advantage and a couple of recent moves that might affect Yankee universe. Make sure to find us on Apple podcast Google podcasts, Spotify wherever you get your podcasts, drop us a 5 star review along with the mailbag question will be more than happy to answer it, but honestly, I can't imagine that you really have a mailbag question that you formulated over the past week, considering the data points have not changed. Marcus Tim's gone. PJ pilota, gone. Phil Nevin unfortunately gone, unfortunately just because we love the fire he brought, he had to go based on what we watched in October, but then again, recalibrate your expectations slightly because Sunday Night's game game two between the Dodgers and braves. There were two moments in that one that really have you scratching your head if you're a Yankee fan, both because of the future and the recent past. Number one, the Ron Washington send in the 8th inning of any Rosario who got around the tag at home scored by a fingers length around the throes Steven Susan junior from right field that was not very strong. That send was remarkably aggressive was the reason the braves won the game because ultimately they were able to tie and then they were able to walk it off and it was also barely different from what Phil Nevin orchestrated at Fenway Park in the wild card game. As much as you may not want to hear that it wasn't a terribly different scenario from what directly led to Nevin's firing Washington got lucky. Sousa's arm isn't great, that play was not made on multiple fronts, even an average right Fielder probably throws him out there. A lot of things broke in Washington's favor, Nevin challenged the Red Sox outfielders, the Red Sox outfielders dominated the Yankees end of story. Of course, we know that Phil Nevin wasn't fired because of one play at the plate. It wasn't just the Aaron judge play. It didn't help his legacy that the season basically ended when the momentum from the rest of that ending was blunted by the air and judge play. But it's 22 outs at the plate this year. I mean, that's unconscionable. There was a lot of data to work with from Phil Nevin. It basically indicated this maybe ain't gonna work out at third base anymore..

"I don't think there's anything even really talk about here, but before we dive in, I'll obviously ask you how you feel as well. We can talk it out. We can add the debate. But Lance mccullers junior sounded like somebody who's gonna pitch in this series after Tuesday's game four. To be fair. But he was scratched with forearm tightness. He's the Astros best pitcher at this moment without him, the Red Sox road to the 2021 World Series could be through Shane bars, drew Rasmussen, Colin McHugh, Jose or kitty, Jose Garcia, framber Valdez, a Christian Javier Zach Greinke hybrid. What the fuck is that? It's insane. It's absolutely, and the way that Greinke's last month of the season unfolded. He was on the cover of all he came back and made two starts, then went back on the IO and then was only able to throw a bullpen ses because it was the end of the year. So he's probably not going to be able to fill him into the rotation. And if he does, I don't see him going like four inning seems like his max at this point. So the Red Sox if the colors is out, the updates don't sound bad. I think the coaching staff weighed in on it yesterday and think that he should be fine. But getting a forearm tightness to diagnosis right before the ALCS is supposed to begin on Friday is just classic bullshit Red Sox look. And this is why this team pisses me off because like we talked like I talked about on the last episode, hilarious. Absolutely fucking hilarious how the Yankees run into the race. Look, the Yankees should have got the job done against the rays last year. I'm not making any excuses. Blake snells on that good. But no, but they had Blake's now. They had Charlie Morton. They had Tyler glass now. I know they battered Tyler glass now. I know they they handle Blake Snell too at some point. But that was and then the race had a beast bullpen that year too. So if you have pictures that can actually give you length and then you have a bullpen behind it, that's worth something. That can at least be competitive. The Yankees when faced with competitive situations usually lie down. So the Yankees get that version of the raise. And then the Red Sox get this version of the raise, which, yeah, a 120 very good, but starting rookies in games one and two, and then a hybrid pitcher and game three and then Colin McHugh and other hybrid pitcher in game four, like give me a break. I'm never gonna forgive Brandon Lau, either. Like we can't over 18 but 9 strikeouts in the LDS and he beat the shit out of us with three home runs in like ten RBIs in the final fucking series of the season. This is what we're complaining about. The Red Sox are not as good as the raised, but the Red Sox didn't get the raise. They got Brandon low getting no hits in a four game series..

"I am not saying he's going to be the centerpiece of a deal right now, but why instead of Anthony volpe or Oswald peraza, why wouldn't you glom pitching prospects onto Luke Voight and tried to turn that into a trade? And again, this could be Clark Schmidt and peraza, I would keep one of Opie or peraza. That's sort of where I fall right now. I would do I would do peraza Voight and Luis heel for mattson. Yeah, I would do a number of things. I would go as far to say that you don't even need to include prospects if you didn't want to. Look, what if you, what if you packaged Luke voigt and glaber Torres? What if you packaged Luke voigt Joey Gallo in like a top ten maybe one top ten prospect? What if you did Luke Roy Aaron hicks in 8 half Aaron hicks his contract and gave them a center Fielder and then, you know, popped in popped in somebody else. It doesn't have to be a prospect heavy deal. I also don't think that's cheaping out on I don't think that's trying to screw the a's over at all. I think Aaron hicks may have some good years left. It's just not working out here and it's a liability for the Yankees at this point. I think they sour the relationship with Luke Voight. He can't be here anymore. They disrespected him. They traded for somebody else. They didn't get and then that other person went on the COVID IL, Luke .1 AL player of the week and then they benched him for essentially the rest of the season. Gallo Gallo seems like a guy that age would love to have versatile defensively, lefty power bat, played in the AL west. I'm can't believe we're drinking Joey Gallo. I laugh every time we talk about it. I mean, yeah, I mean, I laugh in a sad manner because this was a great, this on paper was a great move to help us in 2022 and how I just don't understand where he fits on this team. If you're not going to play him in center field. So I don't want him in left field. The Yankees shouldn't want him either. And they play tourists..

One dodgers versus giants come french dip versus sour dough bread san francisco atlanta braves southern food milwaukee cheese kurds. I'm gonna go with the braves series as well. So i think really of all those foods. The best is probably the sour dough bread. So san francisco. I think is gonna take it this year. There you go. It's all about the food. Let's take a look at our birthdays today. Marie osmond turns sixty two. Nancy kerrigan is fifty to sasha baron. Cohen is fifty today and she's thirty two today. That is look at october thirteenth. The Plant Path
Spagyrics, Ancient Medicine for the Modern World
"Hey, there everybody a popham here founder of the School of Evolutionary herbalism and welcome to our new issue here on the blog and You know there's something that I've been thinking a lot about lately I've just been kind of looking at the state of the world and at everything that's been going on you know within the whole political thing and all the stuff going on culturally and just with all of especially with all the fires that we've been having out here on the west coast it just feels like things are really heating up literally on planet. Earth right now and I've just been thinking about. US As human beings and our relationship to nature our relationship to the earth and the healing that is required of all of us right now as human beings and how the practice of herbal alchemy or. Six has this what I see as great power and potency to bring healing to the people at this time in a way that I see is really required and one of the things that I've been looking at and kind of thinking a lot about. This dynamic of separation, and that's a critical component of the specific process is the process of separating out the principles of a plant in the ways in which they're prepared ALC- chemically and looking at our culture and thinking about human beings and where we're at in the world right now and seeing that there's this course separation. In our culture that I think is really at the root of a lot of the problems that we're facing on the earth right now and I think that core separation is this illusion that I would say a majority of human beings on the planet are carrying that thinks that we're separate from nature it. I always like to talk about the difference between you know the world and the earth, and it's like the world is everything that the human beings have created from our minds if I just I live out here in the country. So I'm kind of surrounded by nature and trees and plants the earth that every time I go to a city it's like, wow, you know it's kind of overwhelming in a way being surrounded by all of these manmade objects that are human made. It's that ultimately are arising out of the human mind. It's like the world is the human mind made manifest whereas the earth is something greater something greater than US created the earth you know thinking of the way the elements are in the way nature is and how you know obviously, we didn't create that we're in we're a part of that but we've created this world that has separated us from nature into me. This is one of the core. I would say this is the core fundamental. Issue that we're facing on this planet right now and this separation this delusion that we carry that were separate from nature. I think is behind a lot of the major issues that we're facing and because of that course separation that it secretes the these deeper layers of separation within ourselves where. Our mind is separated from the heart. Our intuitive faculties are separate from our rational mind you know in our culture, you know or science is separate from our spirituality, and in that way, we create this world that is separate from the earth and to me the goal. Of the healing that we need to do at this time is individually within ourselves to heal those splits inside of us you know to heal those splits between our heart and our mind our body and our spirit. So that, we can become integrated unto ourselves and when that happens on a large scale, I believe that we have this ability to create a world that is a reflection of the earth that we can create a way of living a holistic way of living on this earth that is integrated into the natural ecosystem. That is guy right. That is this planetary intelligence that we live on and in order for that to happen though I believe that there's Deep levels of healing have to happen within human beings. Right and to me that healing is far beyond our bodies right that we need a healing in our minds and in our hearts and even down to this soul level healing. We're able to heal ourselves in a way that reintegrates ourselves in our consciousness and the way we live our lives into that intelligence of nature to remember that we're a part of nature and that everything that we do is impacting the earth

Trump says will 'strongly consider' testifying in impeachment probe - but would it ever happen?
"Back to the daily DC. The Impeachment Watch I am Zach Wolf. Alex Marquardt is still with me. And we're pleased to welcome CNN. Legal analyst Michael Zeldin. Thanks for joining us. Michael my my pleasure to things kind of interesting happened this morning number one Responding to Nancy Pelosi from over the weekend Donald Trump president trump suggests that he could be Willing to testify or at least to give written testimony to the impeachment inquiry. He said essentially to move it along so the Democrats could get something done for the country. That's thing thing one thing too. Is the house. Democrats made clear that they're investigating now. Donald Donald Trump and whether he Lied to Congress essentially As part of the Mueller investigation when he offered written testimony or answered questions wins in writing for Robert. Muller in this part of They're a lawsuit to get hold of grand jury Documents and testimony any from the Muller investigation this now ties into the impeachment investigation. It's all meshing together but these two things about Donald Trump and testifying before Congress which would be pretty much unprecedented I think And number two This idea that he may have said something that was incorrect about wikileaks. Not Leaks and what he knew to Robert Muller what is going on with those two things in your mind so the first thing that comes to mind is my expectation of his qualified offer. Potentially offer written testimony was not something that he cleared with his lawyers and that his lawyers are going to be saying. Excuse me but we don't want to do that. Thank you Mr President. Well he didn't say he was GONNA do it. He said he he's thinking about exactly but I expect he's thinking about it without having first consulted Laura's because I don't think his lawyers lawyers would want him to be offering written testimony so I think that's more of a sort of a hypothetical offer than it is a real offer second second with respect to muller the the question and answer that has been raised as a possibility that the president offered false testimony before before Muller in his written statements relate to whether or not he recalled conversations between himself and members of his campaign who themselves may have. I've been interfacing with Ricky wikileaks or whether he had any direct contact with a representative of what of wikileaks. And the thing. I forgot to mention this. Roger Stone found guilty on Friday essentially of trying to sabotage congressional investigation With regard to to wikileaks right so so the lawyer in me says says if the question is asked did you have any contact with a representative of wikileaks. He can answer no to that. Because none of the people who allege allegedly told him anything about wikileaks I would definitely meet the term representative of wikileaks. If he had spoken he would have spoken to. Julian assange essentially For that question to be ally The way he answered now with requests with respect to the question of whether or not his failure to recall whether he had conversations with anyone on his campaign. Am Pain regulated. He he didn't say no he said I don't recall talking to anybody. Don't recall is what his answer was. And that's a smart legal answer and expectation Asian. Is that the documentation that was presented by the White House to Muller contains no indication that the president spoke to anybody on his campaign about wikileaks leaks and so he has the opportunity to come back and say well. Now you've refresh my recollection. Yes indeed I remember speaking to Roger Stone in the car and it was overheard by whomever so I think it's a very difficult prosecution to make. However the appearance that the president is unaware of his interest his own interest which he on on the campaign trail repeatedly touted wikileaks? I love wikileaks. We Russia if you're hearing me. Please release her emails. All is wikileaks. centric in a sense. It's SORTA strains credulity to that. He didn't remember this stuff. But as I said when you ask a lawyer whether or not. This is actionable as a law case case I think it's probably not what about this Offer so to speak that he would be willing to testify in Congress in the impeachment inquiry which actually got a laugh last week During one of the hearings when when Peter Welsh Congressman Walter Democrat brought it up and say you'd be most welcome to sit down is is that another one of these. Is the president just floating something for the sake of it. That almost certainly won't happen. What my recollection of that QNA was the Republicans skins. Were saying the person who has firsthand knowledge the whistle blower a person who they first accused of having only secondhand knowledge but now all of a sudden he has firsthand knowledge. They said the person that we want to hear most from whistle blower because he knows the most and then well said well actually the person who knows the most is the president and he's welcome here anytime he wants. And that's what the left in my expectation. Is that the the likelihood of the president showing up in person raising his right hand to swear to tell the truth before that committee Mitty is not likely. So you've told us about the importance in lawyering Somebody like president trump to give wiggle room in testimony. I don't recall Paul as opposed to I don't or as opposed to know We have somebody we have a real life example coming up with Gordon. Sunland who actually didn't recall recall Some very important things with regard to the impeachment inquiry he had his memory jogged at least one time and then subsequent to that we found out new information mation that About his call. You know the very loud telephone call in the Ukraine Ukrainian restaurant with President trump. So I I guess the question is. Is Somebody like that that in more legal jeopardy or in some sort of legal jeopardy for his the the way he addressed Congress and then had completely changed his story about whether or not there was some sort of ultimatum to the Koreans for military aid. Right so Saad. Lynn says I don't recall then. Other witnesses testified to his direct direct involvement in the thing that he didn't recall and then he corrects the record. And says that refresh my recollection. I now recall. And my testimony is consistent consistent with those others in respect of the homes. Telephone call that was overheard the alcs talked about. He was not really directly asked. That question didn't exactly Give a denial of of that call so he too has room now when he testifies again to elaborate on his prior testimony which I expect that he will do. I expect that he is not gonNa have memory failures like he did in the closed door testimony too much each other evidence out there which links him to this information that if he were to not recall under those circumstances it probably would be seen as a false statement achievement and you can falsely testify before Congress by inaccurately describing your memory as as being faulting so so just to wrap this up for everybody If in in congressional testimony don't say no and if you absolutely can avoid it I don't recall is a lot better. Because it's really hard to prosecute somebody for lying if they said I don't know because your memory can always be shocked. Yes with the qualification. In that there are prosecutions where individuals have said incredulously. They don't recall and that they were the prosecutors. Were able then and to present evidence to say that I don't recall was actually ally and you cannot therefore say with confidence. Just keep saying I don't recall I don't recall and you off the hook because at one point you're alleged failure of recollection is GonNa be tantamount to an affirmatively. I think what what we've done here is tumble into exactly the problem. That a lot of people have with Washington because this is making my head hurt Michael Alex thank you for joining me on the daily. The Astros Fire Their Assistant Manager After He Taunted Female Reporters
"The first thing they we all expected from Houston Astros yesterday we we expected to hear from the Houston Astros yesterday regarding Brandon top man the assistant GM I remember his comments in the in the dugout star in the locker room after the ALCS when as he can reportedly kept screaming we're so glad we have soon repeatedly in reference to the the the star in reference to the picture that service seventy five game suspension last year for domestic violence all of that context is important here because he he directed his comments towards three female reporters that were there one of which was wearing domestic violence support bracelet and as you continue to think about what that means what it means moving forward the Astros initially reacted to the statement by calling out the reporter calling out Sports Illustrated and even in it is flat out saying did they were fabricating a story and making something out of nothing that's where it started now I think true window smartly said as we initially reacted to it Hey if this is the thing one thing we can expect is that we will get more eye witness accounts there were a lot of people in the room let's see what other people in the room set well other people in the room immediately came out and feverishly defended the reporter and the Sports Illustrated story that led us to what happened yesterday and look sometimes in the world all you want is an apology that sincere and what you want or for people to come out and explain what happened why it happened and say they're sorry for it without any sort of mitigating factors without any sort of walk back but with actual transparency there was an opportunity for the Astros to do that yesterday they did not this is what Jeff flew now said the Astor GM this is his initial apology announcement yesterday that they fired assistant GM branded top we have separate with brandy top any longer an employee of the Astros his behavior was inappropriate and not representative of who the Astros are in our culture and what we stand for that original reaction by the Astros was wrong and we own it as an organization there were many people involved in reviewing that approving that and I'm not going to get into the details of that it was wrong it was the Astros decision and that's from Italy that so many layers on that to decide by the way that you're not going to get into that but we'll get there in the second part of what he said is our initial believe was based on witness statements about the incident who who did they talk to who lied to the Astros if they're going to say that they were lied to and they're going to blame that on part of why they made the statement initially that they made then some mind it like we have the the opportunity in this moment the right I would say to ask them to tell us who lied and what's being done to the people that live the other part of what he said there is it I'm not going to get into it it was in Astor's decision regarding the statement that was made that means it he's saying several people within the Astros organization had the opportunity to not make the comments in response they had the opportunity to not though the reporter on the bus they had the opportunity to not try to ruin somebody's career and the on the opportunity to not protect somebody they didn't deserve protecting but they chose not to do that and he tells you flat out that several people within the organization approved that decision without telling you who that led to a heated back and forth in the room about who should be accountable this is important check it out you smeared and potentially damaged a person's career shouldn't there be a price paid for the people who decided that that was the idea in the way that Brandon tell me just how to pay with his career I don't know the answer that to be honest with you you run the organ is it you want baseball operations as you now right and I help him crane hasn't come today Jeff I I understand that and and we're we're taking responsibility and accountability for that and apologizing for it at this point that's that's all I can tell you I don't have anything else to give you marry on that I I mean are you taking accountability for it doesn't sound like it it sounds like what you're saying is Hey a bunch of people decided that the initial statement was okay and that's not on me and that's not really my decision I'm just the mouth piece standing up here in front of everybody to talk about it and in the meantime we're sorry that we said anything but we were misinformed me that's what his apology basically is he came in and said Hey we were lied to I'm not gonna tell you by who and so we fired the person that did it and we realize that you know we decided to make a statement that was perceived poorly worst apology ever
