Flood problems grow as new storm moves into California
"A farm worker community on California's central coast that's known for its strawberry crops is now mostly flooded. Residents in the farm worker community of pajaro were already struggling to find food with so many roads and businesses closed following storms, but another atmospheric river arrived Monday, and crews rushed to repair a levee break on the swollen river, resident Mary Alcantara. There was already one flooding. So we weren't expecting a second round, so it was really unexpected. Sean and Murray is with the Monterey county water resources. When these next storms come in later in the week, which look like very similar height to these last storms, we will have water coming over the breech area. Some 8500 people already were evacuated. "Between the mets and the braves, in which I took Charlie Morton, but I was basically just cheering for the braise because I didn't want to Grom. I didn't want them to be in it. You know, to compete for the division. Like I wanted them to just say screw it and play for the wild card. Unfortunately for me, both of those things happen. So the real world implication was, was there I just didn't expect them to pitch Corbin burns, I was like, he's already won a Cy Young. It was announced that Carlos or Don would also be shut down, so he had already won the strikeout, you know, moose strikeouts in the NL. And then someone pointed out the fact that he was at a 199 innings, and they wanted to get him over 200. And so going into that game that day, like more than anything, I was like Corbin burns is gonna make or break. This matchup. I just didn't know how many innings he was gonna toss. And fortunately for me, he only pitched three. They were really, really good innings, but could he have gone longer? Yeah, fuck yeah, I could have. He was definitely dealing. And I had guys, you know, I feel like everyone that was on that with the exception of Adrian Sampson had good outings, but they were abbreviated. We knew Kershaw's was gonna be a review that I had no idea what the angels or Houston were gonna do with from her and shohei, but they both only pitched 5. And I have been dealing with abbreviated innings pretty much the entire second week, like Arias was abbreviated the moment that the mets found out that they couldn't win the division. They pulled Taiwan walker after going four to third and striking out ten with nowhere and run, so I was like, well, there goes that. There were so many situations like that on both sides. Like, I mean, I don't know if it was due to injury or they just wanted to shut down, but Logan Webb was shut down. I had sandy Alcantara who was lined up to start the final day of the season. He was shut down, but I had found that information at much earlier than Johnny, and so like, I don't know if it was a surprise to him. That they were shut down when they were, but I wasn't surprised at all. I basically had been plotting for them not to be there. So like my internal projections were very differently, but going back to what I said about the Yahoo projection, what was interesting was he had Jacob de Grom in his act of an act of roster spot. And Yahoo, you know how you get the green check or whatever to indicate a probable. They removed that check, but they didn't remove his projection. And so and they gave him an amazing projection of like 16.3 points. So like Johnny's like projection and Yahoo was so overstated by in particularly that projection, the entire last three or four days of the season, whereas it looked like he was eventually going to blow me out, but like I knew that wasn't actually the case where it was so unlikely that brahm was going to go. The other thing I didn't get and I actually think that for the most part the daily Yahoo projections are pretty solid, but they're very fragile as we know.

"It will be like when we talked about Bryce Harper and his Bryce Harper stole a superstar. No one talks about him anymore, and then he won an MVP and then we got that email about Mookie betts and wondering if he's still one of the main characters and then he proved it, yes, he is. Well, Alex Bregman, like it's been a while, you know, for him. He's been good. He's been fine. He's been above average. But looking back at like 2018, 2019, when he was an 8 win player in both of those seasons with one 60 ish WRC plus and since then, it's one 21, one 15, one 15, again, this year he was like, you know, he missed some time in the previous seasons, but he has not been a starter. He's been like, you know, good. He's been decent, he's great. All right, so I don't know what happened to him, whether it was the injuries that he has sustained or he talked with David about some mechanical issues that he was trying to straighten out with his wrist and other issues that are going on with his swing. So I don't know what it was, but just interesting, right? It's almost like it reminded me of when Evan Longoria, I remember writing something about him once how he just sort of like was a superstar and then suddenly he wasn't anymore and it wasn't like he was super old or was terrible or anything. You just kind of like went down a gear or two and that's kind of happened seemingly with Bregman two. So maybe some people would attribute that to sign stealing. I probably would not just because I don't think it made that much of a difference and also because he was still awesome in 2019 when, as far as we know, they were not doing the things that they had been doing, but for whatever reason, he's gone from MVP type player to, you know, pretty good, I guess, and he's only 28 still, and this has been over a few years. So seemed notable to me. So what you're saying is that what needs to happen is he has to be traded to the Giants. And then he will have a resurgence, but he's probably too young, maybe when he's like 33, 34. Right. When he's going to be the time. When he's his new old self. Yes, exactly. Right. However, sandy Alcantara has caught my eye many times because. He was so good. He is now a third in fangraphs war among pitchers first among national league pitchers and it's like every other day I see sandy Alcantara had an amazing outing Pablo Lopez had an amazing outfit and then I think like, those were wins. They must be good by now, right? No, not really. They're 25 and 30 and in fourth place where it seems like they kind of always are. So it's not enough. The young pitching has not been as great across the board as it seemed like it might be. And Trevor Rogers, who seemed like he might be among the best of those pitchers, he has struggled significantly, but Alcantara is unbelievable. Yes. He is spectacular and he's just so good. And I want there to be, we need recourse for a really good players on teams that are sort of underperforming. We need recourse, Ben. Is that just the All-Star Game? That's bad. Also, yeah, Tony council in has been amazing too. Yeah. I just like looking at leaderboards and be like, huh, look at that. Yeah, look at that. It's pretty impressive. Look at that guy. Look at that guy who didn't use to pitch very much, and now he's pitching Warren has been really good. Also, this should probably be our moment to just acknowledge that like, man, those Dodgers. A lot of their pitching not working still doesn't matter. Spectacular. Amazing thing. On historic run differential pieces. I don't know. Still are, but they were up until recently. Yeah. They're great. Yeah. And I just saw a tweet that the NL central collectively has lost 17 straight games. Central teams combined. Yeah, that does seem like stat blast material potentially. It does. Yeah, I know that you mentioned that the brewers have had a big dip in their playoff odds and gosh, like those cardinals only a half game back of them in the central. God, the Dodgers have a plus one 14 rent differential. What the hell? They're meant to the season. Yankees. Yankees are one O four just so that people don't think that work. I know there was some there was some conversation earlier in the discourse that maybe the Yankees not that good. I think those are pretty good. Yeah, pretty good. I only saw it fleetingly, you know, this is one of the things about traveling. You get to fleetingly engage with discourse and then be like, I'm done now. Yeah, seems like the braves are back too. If they've won a bunch of games in a row. Yeah, see, this is what happens when I am gone like teens change. And the fortunes they change. So 6 and a half back of the mets, but they're on a little throw on a little tear there. Those braves aren't they? Yes, they are. And our pal Williams asked the DO we acknowledged his return to the majors, but didn't take him long to have like one of those signature moments, which, you know, we noted that he had the low light in winter league where he punched someone from behind basically, and we were happy that he was going to come back to the majors and replace that in our memories with some actual exciting fun highlights. So he has done that. He has gone viral again, he had a game where he drove in a crucial run and then he also scored a winning run and you had your kind of classics as dio running around the bases and hats falling off and hair flying and all the rest of it. So that was a nice to see as well. So I will point everyone to a couple things. One is the league of their own trailer or teaser, really. There's only 30 seconds of footage and no dialog or anything. So it's hard to conclude much about it, but it's coming August 12th to Amazon Prime Video and I'm looking forward to it. It'll be nice to have a baseball show on again and hopefully this will do better than the first very short lived league of their own TV adaptation, but this one from one of the creators and stars of broad city and the showrunner of Mozart in the jungle and d'arcy carden is in it and Nick Offerman is in it as the manager and the characters from the movie will not be in it or at least will not be the lead characters here..

"All right, they're not going to let you get to the rim with ease. They're not going to let you have a lot of success there. Golden State is going to have to bomb the three. And they are the original gangsters of the three point shot having ushered in that era, what 7, 8 years ago. So I believe this is going to be a series that runs deep. I like Boston in 7 at 6 to one. It goes 7 games that gives us a better chance of knocking down 96 or more three pointers. I'm going to take a small shot on the yes. Record breaking three pointers made in the NBA Finals plus four 50. That wraps it up for everything in the NBA on the ice tonight the avalanche have a one O series lead over the Edmonton Oilers. This is game two tonight. There's a prop out there will Colorado score in all three periods, at least one going all three periods. The price is plus one 30. I'll take a shot on that. After what we saw in game one, there are some books that have the total for this game at 7 and a half, which according to many databases is the highest total we've ever seen for an NHL family cup playoff game. We're still working to see if that's the case, but a lot of database is only go back so far. We've never seen this for a game. Ton of goals scored in that first meeting between these two, maybe it comes down a little bit tonight, but whether it's Mike Smith or not in that Edmonton's got some problems going against this offense. I'm gonna have some fun Colorado to score in all three periods, at least one goal plus one 30. And then finally on the diamond, the Marlins and giants get together tonight. The Marlins first 5 innings run line, which means after 5 innings, they have to be up by one run or more for me to win this bet. It's even money. I'll take it. Sandy Alcantara is pitching for the Marlins. He has been incredible this season. Alex wood is going to go for the Giants. He was solid last year for San Francisco, but he's struggling this season with an ERA north of four, but just shy of 5. I'll take a shot there with the Marlins even money first 5 innings on the run line. And that ladies and gentlemen, is it for.

And so that one, I think, might be my favorite. Yeah, that's a good pick. By the way, I should mention that the Phillies have kind of overhauled their player development department. So maybe things will get better there as Nebraska said, we need to be better at getting players over the hump and producing good players from within the system. I agree, Dave, the Philly's definitely need to be better at that. All right, back to the so the strength, I guess the strength is probably what we've always talked about with the steam right the young pitcher. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's hard not to, yeah. Yeah. There's a lot of it. It's fun. I mean, there are pictures on the staff who have already been great. Like, I'll counter and Rogers. I mean, people have projected our counter to make even greater strides I've seen according to stat cast. I noticed this because my colleague Zach kram pointed it out the other day. But Alcantara had the worst framing support of any pitcher. He had the most runs last two framing according to baseball savant last season. So with Stalin's hopefully that will not be the case, even though maybe stylings is a more elite blocker than a framer, hopefully that'll get a little bit better for him. But Trevor Rogers has already really good bubble Lopez. Eleazar Hernandez, they're so many guys here. Jesus, I guess the question. I don't know whether we're stepping on any breakout picks or anything here, but that's definitely one of the storylines of the season. How much will you get out of him? Yeah. And obviously 6 do Sanchez who does not seem to be close to returning from his shoulder surgery. So I just, I have no idea what to expect out of him if anything or when, but there are so many good pictures here that they've already traded a little bit from that depth, but they could continue to if they want to supplement the lineup still. Yeah. Yeah, I can't wait to see what this player does group can do with lizard, which isn't to say that like, you know, Oakland's not like bad at that, but I think that there's just the opportunity here for him to take a step forward with the combination of what they're up to and good health and yeah, and if 6 or 6 inches can ever figure out a better fastball shape like look at. Weakness? I appreciate that they try to fix the lineup some Jorge soler. They tried. You can't say they didn't do anything. They did that do enough for dirt cheaters taste seemingly. Yeah, weird. Because what we're saying, this rotation could be so, so, so good. And it's like if you could just do a little more here to give me confidence that you could at least consistently be a average ish offense. I would feel so excited to watch this you and instead you haven't quite done that. I think it admirable job of trying with what seemed like it was not very much to work with. Financially, but yeah. Yeah. Garcia, obviously Garcia is a good player in Jorge soler. I have no idea whether he's like the very not good player or the very good player who he was like within last season. I don't know exactly what to make of him and Stalin's obviously helps you a lot. Defensively at the very least. So it is an improvement, but yeah, they were linked to Castellanos and Marte, who, of course, was a Marlin in the not too distant past. And someone like that, I mean, yeah, it seems like they could use a real Big Bopper, but I believe in aspects of the lineup, I guess. Is there a breakout pick either on the offensive side or just yet another pitcher who could take a step forward for you? I think luzardo is such a good pick because I really do think that, you know, working with this staff, I would be really excited to see what we get from him if he can kind of fit in with the rest of this rotation. But other than that, you know, this steps on a rookie, but I'm talking about this lineup and what we might see. Can you curious to see what Jesus Sanchez does in the outfield? He does have some power that is other always missing from this lineup and I would like to see maybe we can get something from him there. But yeah, breakout wise, you know, I feel like it's hard because pitching staff is already so good other than luzardo that you can't really point to much there. And then the lineup is what we've discussed it is. So is it too late to predict well, I don't know if I'm predicting, but to hope for a jazz Chisholm break out sort of for him to elevate past what he did last year, which wasn't bad, but was not like, you know, he was a below league average header and the defense was only so, so. So maybe we could give some hope to just hold my suppose? Yeah, I think so. He's one of those players who in my head because he is so much fun to watch even if he hasn't like fully put it together that he has already transcended it in my head. Even though you're right, he was not a leak average hitter, even though he felt like one to me. Right. But very much felt like one. And so that's a great point. This close. Yeah, it was close. But not quite there. Yeah, no. His highlights are as exciting as anyone. And I guess it sounds like a cliche, but consistency that's kind of important for him, but also plate discipline and strikeout to walk ratio. He struck out close to 30% of the time last year and walked less than 7% of the time. So that's an issue, but he does have speed and power and it definitely wouldn't surprise me to see him make a step forward. He's only 24, so yeah, I could see it. And I'm with you on Sanchez as well. I could see him having a 30 Homer season. He hit 14 and 251 plate appearances last year. So clearly has a lot of power. So yeah, there's that..

We need to do because it is part of our core DNA as a show. It's incredibly important. We absolutely need to do all the gaming chair news that comes out. It's our core competency. And so I'm taking my pass on this one. Oh my God. The headline here is Lamborghini develops gaming chair with carbon fiber top plate clad in Alcantara. It gets Verde accents prominent Lamborghini logo embroidered on the backrest and so this is a Lamborghini and secret lab collaboration and it's another exciting call it premium gaming chair. This is again another secret lab kind of exclusive. There you go. You can see it here with the green accents and the Lamborghini logo. "Right. Right. Yeah, it's incredible. But yeah, I'm a big fan of Correa. Yeah, I don't see him as LeBron of the game and like you said Facebook's just not built that way. No, it's a sport. It's not him. He's a great, great player, but there is no player laying Mickey Mantle, I saw a play, you guys didn't see him. He wasn't the LeBron. It doesn't. It's not that kind of a sport. I mean, it might be if you can send up the same guy to a bat for every at bat. But you gotta wait, you turn in baseball. It's a different game. A name that is out there right now that everyone seems to be on. And John, I'd like to, I'd like some insight here because I think he's a hell of a ball player. I do think there's a great market for him, but I was surprised with how many teams are seem to be interesting and startling Marte. What insight can you give me on him and why so many teams see him as a fit? Yeah, I think there are two things there. A huge finish. He was fantastic for Oakland. As he was for Miami, he had a great first half with Miami. I think even better in some regard for Oakland, I mean, for a while, he'd stolen all these bases and never been thrown out. And even the a's, the money bullies, I think, appreciated, not that they're going to resign him, they're not. Obviously, they're trading off pieces. But it's this great platform year and it's the fact that in this market he happens to be a unique play. There aren't great center fielders and there are a lot of outfielders, right? I mean because the autos can fordo. Obviously, Garcia, you know, Peterson, solaire, you know, there is a ton of good to very good outfielders out there to get. And but in terms of schwarber, in terms of center field, there's one that stands alone. I would say it's the same with catcher, Yan Gomes is really by far and away the best catcher who's on the fridge and market. I think all the catchers are going to do okay because they're just the need outweighs the supply. But he's by far and away the best catcher is he is superstar. No. But Marte is both going for him. He is a big star and his unique player on this market being a very good center Fielder. And, you know, we see Texas is involved in Houston, Phillies, mets, Yankees, Miami, but I heard their offer was a bit light for him. They seem to be concentrating on getting their own pitcher Alcantara done and they probably will get that done. They have terrific pitching. They need hitting some way somehow, but, you know, you know, there was that one year with the previous regime dived in and spent money like crazy and tried to spend even more money in Miami and then they gave a huge deal to Stanton, but I don't think looking at the books now more reasonably, I don't see that any regime going forward doing that in Miami. On top of that, John, another name that's out there in the market right now, which is very unique, and I actually do have a question for you because I do not know this answer 100%. And I'm going to quote a tweet from you and it's from MLB's John Heyman. MLB has notified our clubs that outfielder, Sia Suzuki will be posted as of tomorrow morning, signing deadline 5 p.m. Eastern Time Monday, With a potential work stoppage happening on December 1st, what does that do to Suzuki? Yeah, you wonder. We're not sure. You know, we're continuing now until the work stoppage, but, you know, that certainly throws a crimp in things. I will say this, you know, if they're able to work it out, the timing is okay. This is a terrific player four time all star. 5 time best 9 player, three time gold glove, right handed hitting outfielder. And, you know, for a while, there was this thought that the Japanese players coming over. The pitchers were better than the hitters, but I mean, look, Otani is, you know, at all timer at this point, I mean, an MVP winner, you've got ichiro Suzuki, who's going to be Hall of Famer 3000 hits and you got to do it. Exactly. So you got three that became huge, huge stars, so I don't think we can think that anymore. And this is a guy who was in the gold medal team got to its final game against the U.S. and really terrific player only 27 years old. I've heard all the West Coast teams are in. Of course that means everybody but Oakland. They're not in anything, but in Texas has been linked to him as well. So we hope they figure it out, but you're right. It does still crimp into things and I wish I could give you a real answer on this, but there's just so many unknowns. I know it's crazy. And it's a funny thing because I get asked this question. I've been getting this asking this question about a dozen times since you posted that tweet. And the truth is, I don't know the answer. I don't know. I can speculate and give you my thoughts, but at the end of the day, December 1st, it's going to be a hell of a wrench in the system. And I will tell you this. And I hate that I'm bringing this saying this twice in the show when I brought up a career earlier, but I also have played against Suzuki in the world baseball classic. And he is one hell of a baseball player would be an incredible addition to any team in the major leagues, especially on the West Coast. There are teams that immediately come to mind. The team that first jumps out to me would be Seattle, maybe it might be the ichiro Suzuki proximity, but it just seems like it would be a really good fit for a team that's right on the cusp. Yeah. Seattle, San Francisco, I've heard, as well. So they're definitely matches versus Suzuki terrific two way player. And so he played against your team Israel. He wasn't psyched out by the mentor on the bench, I guess, huh? No, no, we lost that game. He seemed perfectly fine with the mention on the bench and you know, at that point, the lights had gone down on us at that point. We dropped the game before the Netherlands unfortunately. We beat them. We beat them the week before, but we lost the Netherlands and we had to beat Japan in the Tokyo dome. And if you've ever been to the Tokyo dome and you're going to play against the Japanese national team, you do not have home field advantage. I can't stress this enough. No. They have it. Well, I thought your team over performed. You did a great job. The whole team did a great job. It was a great story. You had a lot of fun and the match was your idea. So mazel tov for you for that. And really was a terrific story and, you know, if you had beaten Japan, it probably would have been like a buster Douglas Tyson result. I love the fact that you said we over performed. We completely disagree. We thought we were going to honestly go to the finals. We were laughing when ESPN named us 200 to one to win the champion. The tournament, we just started laughing like this. Anyone here not realize, yeah, we're a bunch of four a guys, but we're incredibly good and we're about to beat up on all the stars. It was hilarious. And then we went up and we beat Korea. We beat Chinese Taipei. We'd beat Cuba. We beat the Netherlands when we beat the Netherlands. That was when everybody started to really notice saying uh oh. And it was a lot of fun. You know what, it's a time in my life that I will never not look back on with anything but the greatest amount of fondness. But getting back to this last thing, we're gonna finish it up with this and that is simply this. We talked about these teams we talked about the market. And we did talk about the big name teams. But we're going to talk about really the top dogs, which in our in my mind, the top dogs is a short list of teams..

That is teaching that. She's been through it so i love that and maybe share a little bit with my community. How mentally was that challenge for you. Live Happy Now
Mindfulness for Children With Kamala Alcantara
"Good day and welcome to episode two hundred sixty one of live happy now. This is Paul thanking you for joining us again. This week most of us are aware already of how important it is to be able to use tools like mindfulness and meditation to help Create Intercom. But it's tough as it is for adults master. Imagine what it's like for a child. This week's yet has created a way to teach children things like meditation. Mindfulness Yoga and more with the help of some very cute. Ninja bunnies camelot. All Kante is co founder and chief content officer of Ninja focus an APP that helps young children learn breathing techniques. Mindfulness emotional regulation and a lot. More her goal is to help. Strengthen families and motivate children to be kinder were compassionate and happier. Let's hear how Ninja Focus can help them? Do that camelot. Thank you so much for coming on. Live happy now today. Thank you for having me. What you've created is simply amazing and I'm really excited for people to hear about this APP and see what all it can do. Can you kind of start off by talking about your intention behind creating Ninja Focus? Yes of course. Ninja focus as maybe base. Had seen is a mindfulness platform for kids. And we're really targeting. The critical ages of three to ten up to twelve in you know. I'm a huge mindfulness advocate. Because if it's beautiful restorative effects and I was seeing in schools and in homes for my friends in for my family. People who are parents didn't have an effective way to really teach their kids about. Mindfulness and mindfulness is extremely inclusive. Practice if you can you can practice. Mindfulness it's important. That young kids learn to practice mindfulness. Because it's an easy way to help them. Learn to focus on their own by paying attention to their breasts and understanding how to be present observing their own emotions in the moment that way. They're better equipped to respond in a way that's more productive and less emotional when they're feeling things that they don't want to feel and I was seeing APPs that we're taking kids and teaching them how to sleep and Yoga APPs for kids but I couldn't find a holistic platform that could teach kids about mindful eating and compassion and self esteem and really learning. What mindfulness is how they can control their breasts to reduce their stress and anxiety and I wanted to create something super superfund and focused on kids. Where kids could actually pick up the APP or their parents get hand over the tablet and would be healthy screen time. That kids could understand how to navigate the APP and so we built this beautiful cute little Ninja Bunny Mascot and I looked up what the most popular animals were. Kids love animals and also Ninjas so I thought the idea of Ninja bunny and wind ninjas mainly because Ninjas have to focus their silent and they have to pay attention to their surroundings in order to do their job effectively and so kids were able to easily relate to a Ninja so when kids go into the APP. They're able to just pick an emotion. Like how are you feeling today and offered you know if they pick angry? They're offered a guided meditation. That six straight to them about how they're feeling and in a language that's easy for young kids to understand and let me say that that is something that really impressed me about it because you have that whole component of teaching children to identify what they're feeling because I mean sometimes as adults. We haven't even learned how to do that. That you immediately have to start thinking okay. My board and my sad emma which of these things am. I really brilliantly don. How did you come up? With a way to customize it for these different ages because that's what's coral too when you go on there and you can choose the age range that you're in. This is really a a custom tailored experience for each child. Yeah so you know. I was a teacher previously in worked with young children in various capacities whether it be in community service or teaching them yoga or meditation and with kids. The ability to customize is really important especially for their development and so when I was figuring out what the content would look like how kids would consume it. What do I do? I actually called in kids. I called I called appearance. We had one two three hour sessions with individual families in these kids through the different drawings we had at the time and we had a prototype of the APP and so the APP actually looks completely a lot different and when we had input from the kids it really shapes their experience so the APP itself was driven by kids and so the design is set that if a child is under the age of six we noticed in our trials and we're doing research that that age group. Kinda press things so when baby are under six. They're taken to a screen in the APP. Which just a world of. Yoga falls and mindfulness mountains. Meditation rocks in so they're able to just click in explore in find out what they like in for the older kids who kind of understand emotion at that time they are taken directly to the Harry. Feeling screen where they're able to pick how they're feeling in that moment in choose content that is relevant towards how they are feeling and so. That's that's what we did. I ask kids as a kid. You tell me this is for you. This is improving. So that's that's sort of how as directed in its so adorable. We're the artwork. Come FROM SO. It was the work of a team. A design team and we had a lot of kids their input as well and when it comes down to it what I did was we ran a contest on nine designs and we had like a hundred and thirty expert designers submitted these bunny designs and I literally told him. I just WanNa Ninja Bundy. That's cute kids and so we narrowed it down to the top three actually. Open it up to kids that taught in Spain kids. I taught in Phoenix and I. I sent it out on facebook and we had kids choose which money they liked. The most and so kids chose the bunny and sort of the world. An animation Ms Secret Gamer myself. And so I put together a lot of different game designs in looked at what was working for kids and what wasn't working in sort of just drew out this world to designers and they made it happen.
