Binance Withdraws Voyager Offer As Coinbase Sues the SEC

"Voyager's bankruptcy in general and especially its deal with binance U.S. have been rocky to say the least. It looked for a while, like the binance deal was done. Initially, that deal had been scrutinized by the committee on foreign investments in the United States, who raised no immediate objection, but flagged that ongoing national securities concerns could end up blocking the deal. Then, however, the U.S. trustee objected on the grounds that binance U.S. had not demonstrated that it had sufficient funds separate from the offshore binance entity to close the deal. Then the SEC filed a complaint, a very vague complaint, suggesting that if the deal went through, there was a chance that it might lead to an unregistered securities offering. Now, the SEC wouldn't say what assets they thought were securities, nor would it directly accuse binance U.S. of being a securities exchange. And for this reason, the judge in the case was perplexed and perturbed. In fact, he overruled the objection. Effectively saying, look, if you have a complaint, make it. But we're not going to hold up resolution of this issue because the SEC says there could be a vague on articulated issue at some point in the future. That decision was then appealed by government agencies on the grounds that the judge's orders provided too much of a protection against future prosecution to binance U.S. and last week government attorneys narrowed their appeal, agreeing that the deal would go through while the appeal was pending on the single legal question about protection from prosecution. So, coming into this week, everything was looking like it had lined up to close the deal. The creditors had voted to accept it, the government had agreed to step aside and let it close, and the bankruptcy judge had signed off. Voyager customers had even begun to sign up with binance U.S. or link existing accounts in preparation for the distribution of assets. Alas, it was not to be. The deal for binance U.S. to acquire the assets of bankrupt crypto lender Voyager digital has been terminated.

A Time of Mediation on Luke 21:20-18

"For the next few moments, surrender all the cares and concerns of the stay to the lord. Say slowly, from your heart, Jesus. I trust in you. You. Take over. Become aware that he is with you. Looking upon you with love. Wanting to be heard, deep within your heart. A reading from the holy gospel, according to Luke, chapter 21 versus 20 through 28. Jesus said to his disciples, when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, you must realize that she will soon be laid desolate. Than those in Judea must escape to the mountains. Those inside the city must leave it, and those in country districts must not take refuge in it. For this is the time of vengeance when all that scripture says must be fulfilled. Alas, for those with child, or with babies at the breast, when those days come. For great misery will descend on the land and the wrath on his people. They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive to every pagan country and Jerusalem will be trampled down by the pagans until the age of pagans is completely over. There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars on earth nations and agony, bewildered by the clamor of the ocean and its waves. Men dying of fear as they await what menaces the world. For the powers of heaven will be shaken. And then they will see the son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand direct, hold your head sigh because your liberation is near at hand. What word made this passage come alive for you? What did you sense the lord saying to you?

They're trying to move at least one of the cars over to the right hand shoulder or at least into the right lane. So they get one lane open. There was an earlier crash right at Tennyson road that actually had the on ramp shut down for a while that has been open. Traffic is moving once again and it looks like it's recovering pretty well. You're still going to be slow after Whipple road when you leave a Union City, but most of the slowdown is in the Hayward area and speaking of Hayward on highway 92 in the eastbound direction as you approach hesperian boulevard to aid 80, especially on a transition rent of north bend 8 80 that is just solid and that's also because the metering lights are on on the transition ramp. 'Capote's Women' Author Laurence Leamer Writes About People Who 'Live on the Edge'

"I just discovered that there's a new book out called capote's women, it is by Lawrence lemur, the subtitle is a two story of love betrayal and a swan song for an era. It's a beautiful book, and I'm looking forward to talking about it with its author. Lawrence leamer, welcome to the program. Eric, thanks so much for having me. While it's a joy, I have written three pretty long biographies myself and I appreciate the genre. And I think that there's something you can do in a biography that you can't do in any other book. You can bring a period of time alive. It's an extraordinary thing. The time in which Truman Capote lived the 60s in New York, we can't even begin to really imagine what world he lived in. But I actually, you've begun and you've put it in a book. You've written many books on many other fabulous people, most of them taller than Truman Capote, which is saying nothing. You've written about the kennedys. You've written about Johnny Carson. What led you? I know you were a journalist. What led you before we get into this specific book into writing these kinds of books about these celebrated figures? Look, alas, I only have one life to lead. In writing these books, I enter other people's lives. But they've got to be somebody fascinating. They've got to be people who live at the edge. You take chances. That's what I want. With a China car or whether it's the kennedys or JFK or that generation or whoever or Donald Trump for that matter, people live at the edge.

John Cena and Lil Rel Howery Buddy Up In ‘Vacation Friends’

"Premiering this weekend on who lose seems to have been the result of agents and producers thinking that it would be great to have the likable John Cena and Little Real Howry team up. Um for buddy of a buddy comedy. It's a wild idea, but it just might work. But doesn't work is what I'm saying. Yeah, Yeah. Yeah, They forgot the comedy part anyway, and vacation friends Marcus and Emily. That would be Howry and Yerevan Orgy are a couple on vacation at the fancy Mexican resort hotel. He wants to propose to her there, even though her father and brother hate him. Emily's dad is a wealthy, dignified guy who thinks of Marcus is a crude construction worker unfit to be his son in law. Even if Marcus owns his own incredibly successful construction company, Emily's brother, just he's just a jerk. Any Who the hotel screws up the reservation in Mexico. So Marcus and Emily are screwed until another couple who have the biggest suite in the place offered to share. Now Ron, who was a swaggering, muscular forest ranger, played by Sienna, of course, and his did see girlfriend Kyla, played by MEREDITH Hagner are determined to help Marcus and Emily loosen up and have a good time like it or not, By the time vacation friends shifts focus from Mexico to a wedding party in Atlanta. You're going to wish you were on vacation Anywhere else, Man. I can't believe it. Little real. I love little Road Rail is talented John Cena look like it's strained. It's unfunny. "I don't know. I assume they're going to charge for eventually. You get a an dot com email address which i think is hilarious by the way The problem with it is now chris. You have to use the new address and the way the way this works. Is you redirect services. You're using to use this Duct dot com email address and that it will remove the trackers and forwarded to your actual email address right so it's a little bit of work involved but it's a universal way to do it. It might be worth looking into. Not even i well. I'm sorry i signed up for the waiting lists i have. I've not gotten yet but sounds interesting. I like i like duck. Duck does duck duck is doing dot. Duck duck goose So it's it might be worth looking at and then visual studio code which is microsoft's Lightweight code editor compared to visual studio. It's actually built with electrons so it's the size of battleship or whatever what are the key advantages are strengths of this product is its extensive has an incredible add on market and i think what microsoft is found is that most people who use visual studio or web developers. Use it on the mac or lennox. Whatever windows obviously and they and the first thing they install is the javascript debugging extension. And now that's built individuals student coach because so many people use it so nice to install it and give me going on and learning javascript. Here it's you know if you're going to target the whole world's eight well. Oh god that's the language to know these days. Sure it's too bad. It's so terrible. But it is what it is and i have the The book the complete javascript. The most recent use i think was to prop up a piece of furniture work. And then i also have amy raunch. Much thinner book called javascript. The good parts and It there's a big difference. Yes there's a good book called essential javascript. Especially if you like books that looked like they were laid out with latex probably literally it has but it's a good book most almost all my liz certain until you can totally tell you can tell Mary jo foley. You haven't said a word in miles. Maybe we could persuade you to maybe something about xbox perhaps the next spivey surprise pick of the week an even better pick share point is My family enough from the peanut gallery. There's going to be an on premises version of share points server. That comes out in the second. Half of this calendar year has not existed in the past. No new here's the most surprising thing is the name it's going to be called. Share point server subscription edition. Even though it's on prem alas own it now so mike said this last year. But i don't think a lot of people pay attention or realized they were serious. Maybe but the next on prem version of exchange server share points server skype for business server and project server all are going to require a subscription to use them on on prim and the subscription is. What's going to get you the security updates support and product updates it and it's not an option to say i don't want the subscription so if you want the on prem version you gotta take the subscription question is how much will it cost. We have no idea. They haven't told us yet. How much that will cost But they did publish this week. A public preview that people can start kicking the tires of and they also published on the microsoft duck. Say a list of the new features coming and unlike windows. Ten twenty one h two. There are actually a lot of new features coming to the next version of share point online If you care about share point and you wanna run it online. You should go check out the public preview. Bits and the documentation. That's out there as of now. Okay i will not all right all right now. I don't have any occasion g that went right. You don't need it. Sure anything i codename. So this is an old code name. That's being revised. I get kinda. Revised project mocha project. Mocha was going to be this. Cool looking canvas. That microsoft was building into outlook for the web. Will you could bring your dues and your notes and everything and make it kinda. Look the way you wanted. The weirdest thing always about project mocha was microsoft. Started rolling it out to people with outlook on the web and and even to some microsoft three six five users and they never would talk about it. Like anytime i'd say. Oh so you're rolling out project mocha. We have nothing more to share. Am i know. But you're actually like rolling it out. I'm not asking a question. That's like a product right. Nope have nothing to share. Well now we know why they had nothing to share because they are actually taking mocha and they're building it instead of instead into this thing called the outlook calendar board which is going to be part of the updated and new version of outlook. So project is not going to exist in the former does today. It's not going to be a separate thing. It's going to be part of this outlook. Calendar board Microsoft actually wrote about this this week and said guess. What project mocha has been a success. Good to now since they were never talk about it. Good to know that you think it's the success and instead will be part of the calendar board in the new version of outlook. What i i know. I know every time. I was like wait but i'm not asking you to confirm it you. You're actually like talking about it but you have nothing more to share. It was over. We declared victory mission. Accomplished cut microsoft has concluded the production of the ibm pc junior. Yeah that's amazing. Yeah actually looks cool. It's kind of vision. board cut. Is this for people like that. Like that kind of thing where you're like. Oh want to make my own space pen. My dues here sticky notes overhear. Yes like sticky notes pro kind of yes for the interests us exactly for people who want to pin things onto something for some reason. That's that was that means. Pin that makes sense. "Expression project for seventy one. So this is the platform actually working with it to moland in seventy one trying to build and trying to learn how to do it as long. But it's very super excited you. You talked about that right now so you solicit yours. You will solicit contributions from people like. He did on the instagram project. You solicited contributions. Then you edited the contributions on instagram. Because i want to inject first of all. I wanted everyone to do it so i was like okay. Well i have to find the reason for this is all how great it would be that if we did it together. So that's like you do something. And i give you my artistic idea and i finished them like as it's going onto our exhibition so we did them together. I had many conversations with them. You know all. Can i use this background or should i sit on the ocean not sit on there so i had thousands of people. I literally was sitting in a room for four weeks all night and day. Beard face in trying to a communicate with them. Be edit them because some was good some were bad naturally so you know and explain to them why that was bad why they have to do it again and so on so i enjoyed it. You know i come from. Turkey am when i. When i was studying at music college. I studied piano and cello in the cosatu are in turkey. For example i think it was ten thousand people applied in the year that i was going to be a taken to the school but only hundred ten or hundred people were allowed him to the school so there was only one school so i know what it means to be young artist with no no needs to expose them sows or new canvas or no camera and i know this world i come from that world so for me. It was very interesting. A flashback of my childhood and understanding and respecting where we can take this people too. So i want to do that in seventy one. I want to create a platform for young artists. Maybe go to different country every year. Bring them involve them introduce them to my artist. Friends interest them to gallery do an exhibition. And maybe create a bottle facade with an artist. Sal that bottle and one hundred percent of the sale goes to another school know some kind of some kind of artistic give back. I wanted to do and i think it's gonna be very interesting. How do you think the interaction would have happened without the pandemic. i'm very. I'm very keen on silver lining stories. You know because. I think we will need them. I think i think we are very much or i was. We are i was. I was very much on a gogo for the last three years. Actually and how how. How exciting how. How beautiful you people lacking your photos respecting your point of view and you feel better and better every day and you earn money and you buy better flowers. You wear better clothes and so all that is beautiful but what. I realized that we also never stopped and we become too precious and you come to south. Shanley became too much about ourselves and we became too much about about living for the audience and the handclapping dude. Did i have any other values left if all failed did i cannot survive with gardening you know. Can i survive without any of that so you come to terms with reality. And that's what happened to me in polemic so i realize that there's more to life than just work. So broadly closer to to those people it made me. Give me a reason i said. Oh if i can excite few people incident down in my garden having a you know nice espresso thinking about people who who you know. Maybe with their families and angry. And i said i have to be able to do something so this was sort of a sort of a reaction to that feeling i said what can i do to entertain them. And let's get the art out of maybe being wearing pyjamas. The whole time including me. I said what can we do to ignite something here and it really did. I have people crying on the phone. Saying thank you for getting me out of this. You know putting my lipstick on and painting my husband's back for the picture or take my shortened down to make backdrop and they were they were being. Were excited and that excitement is another form of plows. It's not just ten laps. It's another form of plows. And i loved it. I love doing something with them. Achieving something for them with them gave me a cake. You've become a much better person. I've become a much better person. And how how is this going to impact your work going forward. You think you you're looking at the world through new eyes. So what do you see already happening to you professionally for me. I think what's important now. Is the weight of the work. Weight of the ultras waits for all of the the photo or the bottle or order video. I was doing a lot of things. Now i am i am. I realize this craft logistical might work. I missed kraft in general. I missed seeing the sacrifice. And i miss seeing chatting tear for dress or You going crazy about a about a musician. I think this is what. I'm looking out there and this is what i'm looking in here inside me so i guess i will do. I will do less work. I will evaluate more. And i will take it slower tickets one step at a time. Where where do you see your work coming out now. I mean we look at magazines magazines and not what they were in. There was the glory days way you were editorials. Were you know. Changing the way as i said people look at fashion. People look at clothes and so on. What do you see happening in that world. now well we are. I guess into a very big change. We are going through a very big verizon's of understanding and expression because we now have a lot of digital contents. We now are changing the way we approach to image. We're changing the way we look at shows and fashion and so on so we have won a thing to do to get on with it to understand it. And how can i express myself with today's language but what worries me is disposal.

O'brien famously was sued by donald trump Back when tim was a new york times reporter and put the quick story. Is you won that lawsuit. It was a huge mistake for donald trump. To do it so here he is With another lawsuit. And i think this one's going to be thrown out of court really fast. I don't think we're going to get much ongoing. Entertainment value from this. Alas lawrence is part of me wishes it would make it over some minimal hurdle so we could just enjoy the sort of carnival esque slaying of all of his legal arguments and then see him put through discovery but of course it will never get there because the suit is is is essentially the definition of frivolity. They just have no grounds for this. And i think they know this. Obviously as you pointed out. I don't think the goal of this lawsuit was to create a new precedent around free speech. I don't think the goal of it was to mount a robust defense of the small fry in the internet era. This this whole thing was meant to fire up. Trump's base at a at yet another series of american institutions. It's meant to defray trust Again in in all of the the forces in society that are trying to regulate donald trump and it ignores all of the hurdles. This legal team has to face in getting this suit anywhere in into a courtroom that will even bother to listen to it. Section two thirty of the communications decency act protects social media platforms like facebook and twitter. Right now from these sorts of lawsuits facebook and twitter in their own corporate bylaws require any litigation from users adjudicated in california. These guys filed in florida. A federal judge in florida recently tossed a law that governor to santa's passed forbidding social media platforms from dumping politicians from their sites. There's just nothing on the ground. Here that is going to allow this to go forward And it it with a one. Curative thing that could come out of this would be for the courts to actually sanctioned the lawyers and sanctioned trump because he has had decades of there's actually a class of lawsuits like this notice lap. Lawsuits that that abuse the legal process and judiciary to further non judiciary goals. Yeah and you and your lawsuit you actually to the discovery stage which donald trump regretted greatly. Because you were able to compel him through subpoenas to turn over tax returns to you another information And so that's the part of this. That of course would destroy. Donald trump If these companies ever got to the discovery stage and they got to subpoena information from donald trump but it has to survive emotion to dismiss in order to get to that stage and it clearly. Won't it's also a fundraiser. For donald trump immediately went to work fundraising off of the lawsuit..

Hi this is chris. From brainerd minnesota like chris christie where brainard brainerd minnesota about two hours. North minneapolis oh man so as this like inside the arctic circle. So you calling about your sled dog or snowmobile. Actually really no well. I am calling because Minnesota probably one of the best places in the nation. As far as keeping the roads are free and clear of snow and ice they plow well And they use a lot of a lot of salt. And i have a tour of camry I thought there is little speck of rust appearing. So i thought the best thing to do would be to get out my dribble tool grind out a little bit bigger spot spot than where it's a little teeny russ beck was and then cover. Listen touch now. You've got diary removed. Both offenders right. No i i did this right before you know the winter and put a coat of wax on top of a handy job to make sure you know more protected and then we started getting salt in the snow and stuff and the thing exploded. It was like cancer. Rust appeared all over the place. Yeah so you just grounded down until it was pretty much shiny metal And you waxed it. Well put some touch up the touchup touch. Yeah and then. I waxed it. Did you put primer on it. I know that was one thousand one. St one oh you didn't you just put the touch up paint right on the bare metal. Yeah that was wrong okay. From many years. Experience in body work in our i did learn that you've got to put primer on. Yeah so you you you you gotta go back and do it again. And if you teach english you can even call it primer doesn't add to grind it down bare metal. There are also lots of products on the market that are designed to slow down the advancement of rust really. Yeah russell liam for example okay. There's this other stuff called extend okay like extent extend actually has a product which is supposed to do all the stuff that the dribble told us on and it gets rid of all the junk one now that he's just had to the gas tank while you sleep so so you could try one of those things. Okay the bottom line is that you. You're on a slippery slope chris. Yeah once it starts. I mean you'll be out there every weekend doing this. You'll have no social life with girlfriends going to dump you because you're gonna be out there in the curb fixing all these rust spots so you're going to have to bite the bullet and buy another car. "All right go ahead okay. So it drinks clutch fluid. I i put clutch fluid in dr it and it can only go for about twenty uses of the clutch gone. Oh and so. How long has it been doing this about ten gallons worth. It's been doing it for about ten months. You go and you don't ask. What conclusion did you reach after. Like the second third month that he couldn't he couldn't find the leak. Well here's the thing. I took it into the shop. Oh you did do something. They told him was the clutch math notes slave. Actually the master. They replaced the master cylinder. That wasn't it they. They checked the slave cylinder instead. It was dry and they told me that they thought that a little piece of hose had disintegrated and it was somewhere in the line. And if i just kept on using it and just kept on filling it up that over the course of time that little piece of hose it was stuck in there with disintegrate. Also the problem. And that's those bogus thing i've ever heard. So they replaced the master cylinder and that didn't fix it. No yeah so this. Fortunately you solve the mystery because it's the only other thing that could be. Which is the slave cylinder. And if i'm not mistaken that slave cylinder is part of the clutch release bearing which means you gotta take the transmission out to repair. Replace it now. The thing is the the slave cylinder. Isn't that old. These guys had replaced it about a year and a half before that maybe two years. Oh really yeah. And they bear responsibility for this Most recent catastrophe well they claim. It's the hose. I don't see how the whole. I don't understand the host theory at all. But i'm but i'm interested in learning because may come in handy someday. So they think that a piece of the holes in there and that's causing the league. Yeah yeah some were stuck in the slave cylinder. his. I got it i got. They think that this piece of hose is somehow interfering with the seal in the slave cylinder. Yeah so that so that fluid is getting past another. Imagine if you will. That does a seal inside the cylinder. Which is the slave cylinder in. This piece of. Hose is law between the wall of the slave end. The seal much like a pencil would be in there. So on that when the piston moves when the piston moves the fluid just comes pouring alley but if that were the case you would certainly see fluid on the ground. You could make it leak just stepping on the clutch while he is to the tune of about a quarter. We but why didn't have shop do that. All i who knows but no these guys i. I don't buy the piece of hose theory. i don't either. I think that's bogus. I think you've got a defective slave cylinder and they have to replace it. Especially if you stepped on the clutch twenty times in your empty and i would i would. I would argue that. They should split the cost. Okay i asked him how much it's gonna cost you when they tell you it's a nine hundred dollars say fine. I'll give you four fifty. You do it now because if you tell them i you want us to benefit they'll say eighteen hundred dollars a good luck can thank you very much. Good luck one. Eight eight eight car talk. "Week. We did a little home experiment for you was slightly traumatic but we are dedicated journalists. You're welcome face or something. Jenny what the hell is gonna tell me. Okay trying hannah cure this morning before i start some meetings at work. I'm going gonna open up a package. That's right we did the hanoch your facial it's called an all in one facial in the box says i'm going to get four octa lift solutions and for octo lift am pupils. See you open it up so the ambulance little glass vials in the solutions in these little pods and then i also have a brush and i do not know what octa lift means but we will find out wanting to try this mask for a while. Because i've seen it on social media. I think saw drew barrymore doing it. If you guys don't know this mask is the one that you put it on and it dries and it makes your skin look really really wrinkled. Like a raisin. The desk has a laundry list of supposed benefits like unclogging pours lifting. And firming opened the calf and empowering the little ampule and combining them now and then re seal it a shake vigorously for twenty seconds gel will form right here. And i gotta figure out something to fan my face with these instructions ending bluefields cold and the shrinkage begins. I can feel it. Kinda starting to tighten a little bit. It's almost twenty minutes in. This thing is very tight. Very excited. To her. And set off it loosely. You are very very creepy. Any other thoughts to share. You talk weird no. I can't really move fish. Do you think this is going to make my skin really luminous kind of before. Now you look terrifying. My seven year old is right. I looked terrifying. I just rinse off my face and it was such a relief started feeling really itchy. So then when. I started putting the water on had to rinse for quite a while to get it off so right after i rinsed off the mask i was definitely khloe. Think it part of it was just the glow of being happy that the mask was off my face but my skin was very smooth. It didn't put on makeup right afterward. But i had the impression that it definitely would be a nice mass to do right before you did put on makeup because everything would would go on very nicely. I didn't have the instructions that said to be prepared for redness. I didn't experience any overall. The percents positive. Although it was a lot to go through to get

"Craig. It was just six minutes of madness. Wasn't it yeah and sort of madness. I think exemplifies season. Yes they are of the title race. Those maybe not be but they are fighting donald for the top four. I mean a couple of teams that can go within a point of them with the game and honduras botham three points behind them with thank three games in hans. They've got a real gunfight for the champions league places next year the injuries of taken toll the were way to open nicotrol. The game from most parts play some nice stuff again and scored a wonderful goal. But they've been so open at the bark and vowed a couple of opportunities in the falstaff and when the opportunity came along and the second half of course another calamity the buck. I don't think i could believe what you see it on the sidelines. But that's the reality of it. That's the have claimed. Playoff possession bring yang suzanne. And as i say after a fantastic couple years. They're fighting as shop for frank. How do you explain what happened in that second half once. Alas scored brilliant assists from amino. You thought this is good for liverpool. They should go on to win this game and then just well. It's food war. We would say. But i i i wonder if one vandyke would have been the central defense it would have been the same story and maybe the conclusion of what happened the all season long for liverpool that they lost too many main players To make sure that it could compete with the others. Nothing to do with scott back. I think i did the job. But at least on who has been absolutely perfect for liverpool add to dreadful games And cost kind of six points to two to liverpool and six very important points. he cannot football with. Sometimes you don't know what's going on you know. Even if you have very experienced players the case of anderson's than i do and some others could be enough to to win a game away from home again. The dominated putting sixty their mind and the lost game so stupidly. I will say that there is nothing else to say but while let's see next season because there's nothing to expect from the from neva put until the end of the season. I think as mentioned again another mistake from allison of course after those two big mistakes and managed to city match as well from coach's perspective. How do you deal with that. what. I'm sure that you klopp kind of sits down has a maybe a couple of coffee with him or or maybe even a beer and talk through those mistakes and that just normal is a is a human being there will be moments where you make mistakes and and obviously cost him because a malaga an because Obviously mentioned the city is is kind of just flying away on their way to the title and nobody can stop them and liverpool is going through some some difficult moments. But it's also understandable as frank said. You know it's all dykes injury. And then other injuries kind of got ended on and and for three years they played mos amazing football on the planet. They were flying. I always call him up. Two hundred mph and and it's it's it was so enjoyable or is still enjoyable to watch them but it's it's normal that it comes now a period of time where things don't work out the they're not gonna win the championship for sure not But there's still have to get into the champions league. I mean you've got to give leicester a huge compliment for the season that they play So far but but when things like that happen. Individual mistakes happen especially a goalkeeper. You just need to to be with him. You gotta gave him all the support in the world and and Have a talk with him and and make sure that he kind of refocuses and and put it out of his mind because it it always. The next game is in a few days again

The future of migrant caravans

"More grand caravan is one of those phrases which feels intractable associated with the recently elapsed donald trump era a term which decade sense will like coffee or very stateful genius or four seasons total landscaping separate. Those who can recall this benighted epoch. From those born too late or those who not altogether unreasonably drank too much the migrant caravan. You may recall was one of the vast menagerie of bogeymen and hobgoblins which trump and his media cheerleaders deployed to profitably inflame. The voters and viewers the caravan was telling a marauding horde of insurgents bent on taking your jobs stealing your women perpetrating terrorism proselytizing communism or whatever paranoid fantasy. You were having yourself. The migrant caravan was reason to build that wall. Lock up your daughters stay tuned to fox. Welcome the tucker. Carlson vote republican and generally run around yelping to set by angry wasps. Shortly after having set fire to your own trousers another migrant caravan is on the move now it will be instructive and hopefully at least somewhat heartening to see how the administration of donald trump successor response before we get into that however it's probably proper to be clear about what we mean when we say migrant caravan as outlined above it has been repeatedly slammed up into something other than what it is by various people and organizations whose good faith cannot alas always be taken for granted. Thousands of central american migrants are vowing to continue their march to the us border even though president trump wants to turn them away the migrant caravans about which donald trump became agitated where a phenomenon which pete in late two thousand and eighteen. They were mass trudges of several thousand migrants setting out from central america and plotting doggedly towards the united states where they hope to find safety perchance prosperity. The constituents off the caravans were from honduras. Guatemala nicaragua el salvador and mexico. All countries offering the less fortunate citizens plentiful reasons for leaving political instability gangs crop failure crime drugs poverty etc. The caravan on the move right now is estimated at some eight thousand strong and appears to have originated in the honduran city of san pedro. Soula as off this broadcast. Its chances of reaching its goal. Mexico's border with the united states appears slender early this week. The caravan was intercepted as it crossed. Guatemala guatemalan military and police who detained hundreds of migrants and scattered others with teargas. Nearly a thousand people have already been sent back to honduras and guatemala's chief immigration official modena's has laid down a hardline declaring that you cannot and will not get through president joe. Biden's rhetorical response will be more humane and compassionate the president donald trump's low though that represents but the outcome might not be much different biden's domestic policy advisor. Susan rice has already pointedly given interviews to spanish language media emphasizing that nobody should assume that the us mexico border will be flung. Open on day one. The administration biden previously. Served that of president. Barrack obama deported more than three million people. This latest caravan is obviously not the first large scale migrant and refugee x. flow of times and it won't be the lost. It seems reasonable to assume indeed that any noteworthy disparity in covid nineteen vaccinations between rich countries and poor ones will lead to still further people hitting the road and given what would be reasonable concerns about spreading the virus. Prompt even less compromising responses from destination countries than some. We have already seen what will likely not happen. Regrettably will be the large scale descent of any com- clear-headed logic on the subject in the united states or anywhere else. Those who are furiously against immigration will continue to insist that imigrants ra menace that asylum seekers. Bogus that we should build walls and turn around boats. Those who are passionately in favour of immigration will continue refusing to countenance the idea that countries are entitled to make decisions about who comes and who goes and indeed that it's better that countries do as transparent legal process around migration and asylum lynn's immigrants and refugees va legitimacy they need and deserve and deprives shrieking xenophobes of oxygen as is the case with this and far too many other issues however the loudest voices on both sides will be largely motivated not by their actual opinions on the issue by the visceral loathing of their domestic political opponents and the caravans and the boats will keep coming

Kingston's Workflow Station, a Dream for Photographers

"My annual pilgrimage. To las vegas for the show was shortened somewhat to stroll across the room where i watched product unveilings on my computer. Alas fortunately some of the vendors had the foresight to send a samples ahead of the show in my hands down favorite. So far is the kingston workflow station. They just announced. I'm now going to introduce it to you as well. I hope you enjoy the show. So this is a nifty device. I'm holding in my hand right now. It's not very big at all. In fact if you have an iphone pro max it's A little bit shorter than that and length Obviously it's a little bit wider because it holds four modules and these modules The the three that. I have right now in here. One comes with the station itself which is Two types of usb usb c and then the traditional usb connector and then i have a card reader for st cards. But it has two slots in it. And i have a card reader for micro esti cards and it has two slots in it. So here's the way. The thing works. And i have pictures of it in the show notes so you can go there and see it but this little guy has a power adapter. This workflow station has a power adapter and You plug it in and you set it up and then has a usb c connection on the back and it has a cord any connected to your computer. And if you don't have a usb c port on your computer then you can use a converter for the traditional usb connection so then you plug it in and you've got these four open slots on top and you just plug in the modules that you wanna use and so right now i'm going to plug in my usb module. I mean super use. Soy put flash drives and all that good stuff in the usb module and then the sd card reader. That's going to go on front. 'cause i use those babies a lot in then microsd card reader and i still have another slot open so i could get another module depending on What i use most or depending on what comes from kingston in the future and fill up that fourth slot. If i want so right now. I've got three of these little workflow readers here now. The cool thing about them is that they plug into the station via a usb c port in the back so it's really nice they just doc really's just drop them in there but if you're headed out the door and you wanna bring a card reader with you then you just grab the little module They come with a nice little. Cords all the courts and everything you need. Come with this both with the modules and with the dock itself does grab the cord. You probably already have one in my case. It would be usb c to usb c court grab it and then you've got a module that you can use a card reader a very fast card reader that you can use when you're on the go and you come back. You pulled out of your backpack and you put it in the dock. And how nifty is this. I mean first of all. It's just fun kind of fun. But it's also super practical. Now let me read you a little bit about what kingston says about it. The workflow station in readers give users the freedom to create and customize a file offload setup that fits their needs allowing them to transfer video photos and audio from multiple sources at once. And this is one of the major keys. It's not just like let's say you come back from you. Know a shoot where you have four cards way. You don't have to do one card and then waiting another car and wait and you just plug them all in and it sorts it up. You can do multiple downloads. What's very important. Whether on a four k slash ak multi cam shoot with portable audio recorders or filming. Be roll with drones and go pros with the customizable workflows station. Doc you can. Simultaneously connect the usb mini hub sd or micro sd readers that the shoot requires to transfer footage quickly. Workflow readers can also be used standalone by connecting to a laptop via the included usb c cable giving users the flexibility to have their workflow on the go right. So you can use it either way to keep the dock at your computer at home or in your studio. Grab the little card readers as you need and you know the nice thing about having them in the dock here is you. Don't lose them right so when you come back you put him in the dock and they're always like right there on your desk ready to go. You haven't misplaced me. You haven't forgotten where they are.

The Women Who Revolutionized Fashion with Petra Slinkard

"Seven billion people in the world. We all have one thing in common every day. We all get dressed. Welcome to trust the history of fashion. Podcasts are we explore the who what of why we wear. We are fashion historian and your host april kellyanne and cassidy zachary will hello dressed listeners. Today we are very excited to feature an exhibition. That does something that you know. We love to do on dressed. And that is celebrating the work of bad ass ladies from their history and today. And that's right because today we are welcoming the peabody essex museum fashion and textile curator pitcher sling card to the show to discuss. The exhibition. Made it the women who've revolutionized fashion and as the museum's website says through more than one hundred works made it celebrates the stories of women who revolutionized many aspects of the fashion industry and traces how these efforts parallel history of women's global struggle for equity and opportunity exhibition is actually collaboration between pem and the kunst museum didn't hog in the netherlands and it features clothing from both of these museums collections. As well as from private and public collections and so from every designer from elizabeth keck lead to lady. Lucille gordon to madeleine to bonnie cashin and low mary. Quant and then all the way to more contemporary designers like rei kawakubo Irishman herpin gina. Kuma you do not want to miss this exhibition. It actually just opened in its on view until march twenty twenty one yes and alas we will not be able to make it to salem massachussetts in person this year especially right now so what better way to celebrate this exhibition them by being joined by his co. curator patriot. Welcome to the show. He had show welcome to dress. It's such a pleasure to have you here today thank you. I'm excited to be with you. So you are here to discuss the peabody essex. Museum latest exhibition the women who revolutionized fashion two hundred and fifty years of design as the title suggests. This is not by any means a small topic. Can you tell us about the exhibit and a little bit about the inspiration behind its creation. Sure absolutely So this exhibition actually is a partnership that we did our we're doing i should say With the consortium and then hand in the netherlands and it is an extension of a show. They put on called them. Vitol's strong women and fashion and their show then travelled to belgium and we are essentially kind of the third venue. But it's. It's an interesting collaboration because it's not an identical repaying of their show so they're installation on which was was beautiful and spanned multiple rooms in multiple galleries and our show is going to be designed a little bit differently And part of reason that we were very excited to partner with consortium is that they're so accommodating on really great partners they allowed us to borrow sixty objects from their election which was huge for us because of course the european collection Phenomenal works that represent into the big european designers for which doesn't have that much representation and but of course being in the united states. We really wanted to draw out of some additional stories that pertain to designers the twentieth century. But also american designers For whom there wasn't as much representation in their show the we've been able to augment With twenty five works from our own collection some of which are recent acquisitions and We borrowed a few pieces from the mfa in boston. We brought to pieces from the chicago history museum and then we're working with To private collectors. So there are a hundred eight mannequins in the show. It's a really big show and it does run the gamut. We say two hundred and fifty years. It's not of course the comprehensive look but it does span that timeframe and so why an exhibition dedicated to i mean. This probably goes without saying what inspired you to do. An exhibition dedicated just to women designers. Well that's a great question It actually takes me back to a time in chicago. Because i was working at the post. Your museum as the custom curators there and of course as a social history museum we were definitely thinking about a twenty twenty s. A hallmark year for the anniversary of the ratification of the nineteenth amendment. And so even then this back in two thousand seventeen By partner just kapoor. And i were already beginning to catacomb the collection and look to see what we might do in honor of women. Because of museum itself was looking to do a year of women based programming and exhibitions. My life changed. Because i. I moved tuesday when massachusetts became the vashon. Tech's curator the peabody essex museum. Is i kind of put that idea dressed. Rest until i was scrolling through instagram. One evening saw me ho. Hey who's curator at the museum post image of stack of books and i noticed all the names on the books. And they were all women designers. She said something pithy like coming soon. And you know a strong women fashion.

Texans Bid Goodbye to the LuAnn Platter: Lubys is Liquidating

"Wondering, I'm David Brown and this is business wars daily on this. Friday. September eighteenth some sad news from my home state Texas. Luby's is shutting down on the surface. It's another casualty of the pandemic. Now, if you're not a Texan or haven't spent much time here, Luby's cafeteria chain and an institution. It's an understatement to say that for decades it's been beloved at one time. There were more than two hundred. Luby's Cafeterias in eleven states. Now, there are fewer than eighty left all in the lone star state. The restaurant chains shut its doors back in. March the loss of Luby's goes far beyond the financial implications for the business itself significant enough and even beyond the jobs of its workers the liquidation of Luby's marks something of a cultural shift one that began years ago. The birth of Belugas we know today is the subject of many. Texas. Squabbles was founded when Bob Lou be opened a cafeteria in San Antonio in nineteen forty seven as the company's corporate history claims or did it get it start even earlier with cafeterias run by Bob's Ancestor Harry Lubi? In Twenty Nineteen Texas Observer Writer Andrea Valdez felt the question was so vexing that she wrote I leave the Arcane Texas history quibbles to the more about Asli knowledgeable of our readers. Regardless Luby's was one of many postwar restaurant institutions that sprouted up to serve suddenly sprawling suburbs in the late forties and early fifties. Once upon a time, the announcement of a Luby's coming to town conferred to kind of signal that this place is on the rise in meant heaping helpings of chicken, Fried Steak Square Fish Fried of course, creamy macaroni and cheese and Jalapeno corn bread all at modest prices and serve with a bit of Texas style. You want more you got it. How's your mom and him with Y'all be able to come back next. Sunday after church you get the picture. Its old fashioned meals, liver and onions and Jello cubes became both famous and famously addictive. It was comfort food for sure. But in a fast changing ever more complex world that bright red Luby's sign was. A comfort in another way to sort of reassurance that simple things endure friendly servers, sensible prices, and the luanne platter half an entree two sides in a row. When a character named Luanne platter appeared on the TV show King of the hill. It was one of the coolest knowing winks ever broadcast in the lone star state. Some might say. The fact that you didn't have to dress up for a Sunday dinner at Luby's made it even cooler until Luby's wasn't cool anymore. By the nineteen eighty s he to become the cool equivalent of driving a fleetwood Brougham something grandparents did. By the two thousands Luby's was suffering at the hands of fast casual chains serving fresher healthier food like mad, Greens, and chipotle. By last year, it appeared that Luby's could be on the way out in June. The pompous family which owns Luby's which in turn owns fudd truckers thirty store hamburger chain attempted to sell it. The takers however, last week Luby's announced that it is dissolving the chain and fudd rutgers to the pompous family plans. To return the money to investors, it could amount to some one hundred million dollars. For the moment, the website proclaims that they're still open. So. Perhaps, some might want to run in and get one last Luanne platter while you still can nothing lasts forever. Alas, Lassen it's too bad that in the case of Luby's most people are okay with.

The Nineteenth Amendment Turns 100

"On this centennial of the nineteenth amendment. Celebrate the persistence of the suffragettes and also recognize that the generations long fight was marred by racism, classism and anti-semitism. In this episode of Can we talk will explore the role of African American and Jewish women in fighting for women's right to vote and the lessons we can learn from the history. Judith Rosenbaum talked with three historians and she's here now to share those interviews with us. Hi, Judith Honey. So who are we going to hear from? I? I, will hear from Ellen de Boys. She's professor emeritus at Ucla, and she's been researching and writing about the suffrage movement since the early nineteen seventies her newest book is suffrage women's long battle for the vote. And true to the title of her book, She talks a lot about how drawn out this fight was and the incredible tenacity of the women who fought for the right to vote I take a long time that it took the stubbornness and consistency of the leaders who refused to give up to use the quote that was used against Elizabeth Warren. Nevertheless they persisted. Several generations lived and died without winning the vote and still did not give up. So I would say democracy is frequently if not always imperilled must be regularly defended or it will be lost. Alas I would say our constitutional order which we think of as being like the sun in the morning in the moon at night may not be eternal and we must act for. And finally, that in our activism, you really have to take the long view and not be discouraged because we're GONNA lose a lot like, Allen I too have found both wisdom and warnings in the suffrage movement. After the two thousand sixteen election I turned to history since as a historian that's what I tend to do and I was really drawn to the stories of the suffragettes. They gave me some perspective and reminded me to take the long view. I was worried about the next four years while these people who worked tirelessly for decades and many of them died before seeing the fruits of their labor. I asked Ellen how they sustain the Movement for so long she reminded me that while women were fighting for the right to vote, they made plenty of other gains along the way. So we have education, we have professions women are. Their lawyers their writers artists. So much so that by the time selfridge calms, it's almost like. To put it in a good way. It's like the icing on the cake to put it in a bad way. It's so overdue of women are a quarter of the labor force hold visions of the American economy couldn't exist that working women. So let's leftist politics and the question is why keep women out of politics? The other thing I would say is it's important to remember that along the way there are suffrage achievements of the most important of which are that many of the states west of the Mississippi are granting women are women are winning their activism. Right to vote, they have full voting rights. They are voting for president, a women of Colorado vote for president in every election starting in eighteen nineties. I the time that this effort to change. Suffrage state-by-state slightly crosses the Mississippi and arrives at victory in most powerful state in the union. York in nineteen seventeen over four million women, vote. So they already have the vote. These are important victories but Ellen, and I also talked about the failures of the suffrage movement especially, the racism that emerged in the fight over the Fifteenth Amendment the Fifteenth Amendment granted African American men the right to vote in eighteen seventy right prior to that suffer and abolitionist worked closely together and rallied around the call for universal suffrage that is voting rights for all. But in the lead up to the Fifteenth Amendment when it became clear that the Republican Party would only support suffrage for black men the movement split. Some were willing to accept the compromise voting rights for African. American men but not for women and some were not and this created a really painful rift. That's when the famous. Between abolitionist leader Frederick Douglass, and suffrage leaders, Susan B., Anthony and Elizabeth cady stanton was shattered. Yes. Stanton and Anthony News that the opportunity an amendment wouldn't come around again for a long time. They were enraged that after decades of activism both against slavery and four women's rights, women were being told to wait and they and other white Selfridge's felt it was unfair that quote unquote on educated black men would get the vote before educated white women. Here's what Ellen says about Stanton's public response. Stanton's particularly. Speaks over a period of a couple months really drawing on a lot of racist rhetoric and it's very painful. She was in her sort of core elitist. And that had a racist element to it, but it also had anti immigrant element to it too. She thought as she used to say women like herself shouldn't have to wait to get the vote until the daughter of. Blacks in butchers she said got vote.
