"In Monterey, Caroline Garcia and Marie bush cover at the top two seeds and David has picked Donna vekic. To win the title. Going to keep picking her until she dies. She's your power but also comes there. Yay. Go Pam. And as we mentioned last week, just confirmation that Novak Djokovic now has a total of 378 weeks at world number one and counting, that means he has officially now overtaken Steffi Graf on 377 weeks. We talked about it a bit last week. It is an incredible record and it's one that's still going. Who knows how many weeks he will end up racking up. It's incredible and congratulations to him. We have our mascot for this episode. I'm looking at him right now, his name is crossley. He's owned by Catherine, same church different pew, no, different church. Catherine with a cave anymore. They're in the same church. Side of the aisle? Anyway, kit wolverton. But crossley was brought to us and submitted by Amy susskind. Amy says submitting this in honor of my childhood friend kit, who lives in Arlington, Virginia, she, along with her twin, a responsible for my tennis addiction, when inviting me to join them as a ball kid at the Cincinnati tournament in the late 80s and early 90s, kiss and I kit and I have had many tennis adventures together including our semester abroad where kit came up from Paris to queue overnight with me for Wimbledon. My favorite day was kit having a massive crush on one of the older ball boys Brad. Are all crushes called Brad, I think they might be. Who thought of kit as a little sister that is unfortunate? Something that annoyed her to know and very relatable kit. Years later, they run into each other in Washington, D.C.. Oh my goodness, what this is, wow. Years later, they run into each other in Washington, D.C., and have now been married for over 15 years. Oh, I'm gonna do a little cry. Their son mason was named after where they first met. Someone make a movie out of that. That was amazing. I'm so grateful to kit for introducing me to this crazy and wonderful tennis world. Oh, I love that. And I love crossley crossley looks to me. Like a possibly elaborate doodle. I definitely think there's some doodle in there. It's difficult to get a sense of scale from the photo. It is sober army mustache. Big mustache, but that could just be the haircut, David. Billie Jean could have a big mustache if I styled her as such. Oh please. Anyway, there'll be a picture of crossley in our newsletter. So if you would like to submit your suggestions of what breed he might be, then please do, let us know. And thank you, Amy, for that wonderful, wonderful story that is warmed my cockles. Much loveliness. So thank you for that. We have our mascots, David has Maisie. I've got zenya and Matt has Darwin. Billie Jean, who's been asleep on my laptop throughout this recording, which is a very sort of early days tennis podcast recording energy, isn't it? It's very as Matt said, it's very U.S. open David 2016 vibes. Falling asleep on the keyboard. Billie Jean is sponsored by Billie Jean King and ilana kloss. We have our top folks and executive producers Jamie Hannah and drew and we have shoutouts, Matt. We have Dana Douglas in allendale, New Jersey. Oh, hello. Great day. Don't know any tennis players. Great location. Is Alan Dale New Jersey where Bruce Springsteen's concerts during the U.S. open are. No. Not that we're looking that far ahead. I think Alan Dale is quite small. No, okay. Okay. Well, there's somewhere in New Jersey that I hadn't heard of. Is it new rather than a friend? Rutherford, right? Like Greg Rutherford. And I'm afraid we're going to have to keep talking about New Jersey and come up with new things to say. We've got Noreen Riley in robinsville, New Jersey. LA nori, I think Noreen is our first ever Noreen shout out. I love it when we get a new name and sadly I don't know any tennis player Noreen's either, so Noreen you are a true one off. Noreen, thank you Dana as well. I feel like I didn't do justice there ended up talking about Greg Rutherford. Thank you to you both. And finally, we've got Kate Fisher Burrell who is originally from New Mexico, but now lives just outside Frankfurt in Germany. Oh. My brother spent a year living in New Mexico. And the only member of my family that has never been to New Mexico. There you go, fun fact. Sort that out. Kate, thanks, thanks a lot for being a friend. Frankfurt airport. Yeah, me too. You'll be there next week, when you David. Frankfurt. Next Monday. Yes, Frankfurt used to host the ATP finals. Back in the early 90s. In fact, it was where the masters, as it was known, moved from New York to Germany to take advantage of the Boris Becker days. And it was brilliant, amazing atmosphere. Thank you Kate for giving David to talk about the 90s. And Kate has a fun fact. She says, I have something in common with virtua Federer. I have two sets of twins. Wow. So cool. You, Roger Federer and Nicholas pifa. Oh, really? Oh. Yes. And I know that. No, I thought I had another example, but I can't remember. No, it's Federer's Federer's sister also has twins, right? But not two sets. I think that's, I think that's correct. Is that right? I think so. Gosh, that is a lot of twins, isn't it? Lovely. Excellent, great shout outs. Thank you, gate. We'll be back with another tennis podcast. We'll be recording on Sunday if this week because whilst the from the airport lounge recording was successful last time around, sort of front of how successful behind the scenes it led to quite a stressful boarding situation for me and Matt. So this time we're going to play it safe. And record on Sunday right before we head to Indy miles, so the first time as a team, courtesy of on location, the premium

"And every week. Well, my guest on today's show comes to us fresh off of his first career training victory. It happened 5 days ago when the 30 year old native of Jupiter, Florida, saddled two year old bad Henry in the second race at Gulfstream park. He then gave a leg up to jockey angel morelos and watched his youngster roll to a 5 and a quarter length maiden win. It odds of 13 to one. The biggest price in the 6 horse field. But that first wind didn't exactly come quickly. That Henry was the 23rd starter for today's guest. And after finally breaking into the wind column, you can expect to see plenty more of his runners crossing the finish line in front. Please join me in welcoming trainer Nick Palmer to train her talk presented by phasic tipton. Nick appreciate the time, my friend. No, thanks for having me. I really appreciate the opportunity to come on the show. Yeah, I'm excited to hear your story. And really excited to talk about that first win. So let's rewind the clock to 5 days ago. At Gulfstream park, take me there with you. Put me there in the stands with you. What was going on and how did it feel to watch your horse finally break through? Yeah, so it was really exciting for me. I lost a groom a couple of weeks ago, so I picked up 6 of 6 horses in my barn and bad Henry happened to be one of them. So he's a home bred for my parents, David and Theresa. Who owned most of the horses in my barn with the exception of three, so I had a hand in raising the horse and his siblings and it was just, it was just really special. He's no superstar, but it was really nice. It was really nice to be able to win with a home bread for my parents. I can imagine that had to be incredible. How many horses do you currently have? So currently I have, I'm training 13. Okay. You said you lost a groom. What does that mean? What happened? Yeah, so I just had a groom. I have two grooms. They both take care of 6 horses each. And then I was grooming one of my horses barrage and he went to Ocala and he never came back. So I took over his horses. And he missed out on his first win, poor guy. Yeah. Yeah, poor guy. That's what he gets for now. Coming back. Yeah, I guess so. Yeah, how about will your mom and dad with you at the time when you won this first race? So my mom was, my dad was actually on his way to the track, but Alan Dale beach full of our traffic got the better of him. So he wasn't even there to see it. No, it was really just my mom, myself, and my stepdaughter. I shipped over with the horse and groomed him at the races, and then walked him in the I walked to myself too, and the spit barn. You know, but when you're finally rewarded with a win like this, it has to make all of that hard work just seem like it's all worth it, right? Absolutely. Absolutely. You know, we've come close. We came close pretty early. We jumped out with a second at Kentucky downs and then I had a horse. A couple horses run second here. So we've been getting close. We just we couldn't get there. And we finally did before the end of the year. It was a great way to end the year. Good morale booster for the guys leading into the new season. Did you at least get your dad on speakerphone for the running of the race or anything? I tried to FaceTime him in the winter circle, but that didn't really work out either because I was so nervous. But it's okay. He'll be there for the next one. Yeah, did you know what you were doing? I mean, you've been in the winter circle before working as an assistant. We'll talk about your apprenticeships, if you will. But when you're doing it for yourself for the first time and your own horse, it's a little bit different though, isn't it? Oh, it's totally totally different. It's totally different. There's nothing like, you know, the whole reason that I got into horse racing as a career is because I got to help a horse, they picked me up in a van on the way to Kentucky downs with the horse my parents had the Bill Kaplan was training. And I went, I groomed the horse and he ended up winning the calumet juvenile while we were up there. And it was just a life-changing experience for me to go with the horse that we broke and trained on our farm. And then to go win a race, it was just a high level. Rosa rush, like I've never felt, and I gotta say, even though it was a 12 5 claiming race, and it was a slow time. That was a bad Henry winning. I was very special for me. Yeah, it doesn't matter what kind of race it is. And I've said that before. I've been involved in partnerships with horses that we have owned. And whether you win a small maiden claiming race like that or you win a grade one. And we never won a grade one. But I think the feeling, no matter what it is, watching your horse cross the finish line in front that feeling is something that you just can't, you can't replicate with any other sport. No, there's nothing like it. There is absolutely nothing like it. Yeah, pretty cool. How'd you celebrate afterwards? Well, you know, I was pretty exhausted. I followed, I actually followed my horse back to palmettos and worked that afternoon and then we had a little, we did have a little barn party. We did a little barbecue for the guys. Yeah, not a whole lot, you know, I just kind of hung out with my kids and with my wife.

What a story, man, and, uh, and heroes running into the gunfire as people are running away. Oh, my gosh. Shooters everywhere. Somebody everybody pulled a gun. Absolute. Chaos. Chaos is not strong enough award. It is 9 37. We do have that video. There's a few f bombs in there. That's why we had to lead a lot of that much. But, you know, you know where it's fly when you're that kind of situation. Yeah. You use what works, but it do have the video on the top of Don show Facebook page. Yeah. So we need to make sure that we have less of those cops. Yeah, that's the city. That should be defunded. Yeah. De funding would have solved that problem. Sure would have because those cops were the issue, right? Absolutely absolutely. Right. Listen, this story about out of the Tanglewood neighbor there, there in South Austin code compliance department, sending out some notices about the tall grass, the sunflowers growing on each side of the sidewalk. Lot of people in the neighborhood. Love it. They do, But they did get a notice. It's a four way stop sign area within. No, these weeds. These sunflowers, you've seen the pictures. Well, that is some of the neighborhoods are pretty angry. The neighborhoods consider this sunflower patch iconic. Yes. Iconic? Yeah. Jessica is in southeast Austin this morning. Hey, Jessica. Good morning, guys who are really great. What's going on? So that there's actually it's part of our city ordinances, chapter 25 Land development coaches that for areas that are considered a visibility right of ways for traffic. That for 25 ft. There can't be any obstruction. If it's really interesting. I think this is an absolute waste of time. But it's very similar to something else. But I'm I've worked on where A person in my district set up a bulletin board and literally on their property in front of their house and code compliance came through. We don't know if like a neighbor called, which was what could have happened with some flowers or Compliance happened to be driving around and just noticed it, But same thing happened because it was an invisibility right away. They make them chop it down. And it was just like a board where people could post during Covid, like Lost dog or Oh, I miss you, or I don't understand, like, Doesn't compliance have better stuff to do than than enforced sunflowers and community bulletin boards. It seems like a real waste of time and money. Well, this for my tax dollars are being spent on I would agree at the current moment. It's a waste of time and money because of all the other issues affecting Austin, Texas, But we do have a code compliance departments and they are hired to enforce the codes and the compliance is that the people calling the city Council to create? Let's not kind of agree with you. I don't agree with you about the bulletin board, though that seems like could be an eyesore, but I mean, if you believe in property rights, what's the big deal? But if you are part of an H O a where everybody's agreed to certain guidelines, maybe they should follow the guidelines. No arguments there seemed and You agreed to have any choice and you should 100% part of the world. But again if this is a traffic hazard, if visibility issues a visibility issue of you know, blocks the line of sight. You don't see a car coming around the corner or coming through. You got a problem upset? We We've all experienced that. Like, what is that Bush doing there? I can't even see around. To be honest. If I own that corner piece of property and my grass was so tall. And it led to a T bone collision and people were hurt and injured. I'd be worried that somebody might try to sue me. You probably have a liability. There may be so, uh, Phillip is an Alan. Dale. Good morning, Philip. Damn sunflowers. Enjoy the show, you know. I'm kind of one of the first things that let my yard go wild and, uh, got sunflowers out there. I've got tons of lantana. Just wild lantana. This popped up and I've got a lot of little piquant peppers. Oh, you're the guy. You're that one guy. How long have you been a Democrat? So how long have you been a Democrat Trying to keep my front yard mood? Philip, if you don't mind. I know you're calling from Hallandale. We're up against the clock here. Don Prior. "There was one listing available in circle, See to put it out. Put it straight. Don't want their head of like 4500 home today. One active Steiner, which there's way more homes and Adam that direction many and it's you know, past the ratio. There's two for sale. There's two for sale out that area. The restaurant in Great Hills, which is an amazing area around town, right on their side of 3 60, you know, kind of behind the arboretum there. There are no homes that you could actually put a contract Unless you're put in a backup offer is right, right? And then Alan Dale, where I live, no homes available to put a contract on Wow. And then in Millwood, it kind of describe who will be the biggest well, but it's also different from the ones we just mentioned, because historically, it's a lot less expensive, more affordable in this area, too, right? Turn over some renters and things like that. What is described Millwood for our listeners, and then what? What's happening there? Yes. Oh, it's named, You know, Bill Milburn Kind, was the original builder that named the Subdivision. But, yeah, you know, one more packing Parmer and stretching out up to McNeil. And then even beyond that, um One listing as well or was zero or one That was there was there was one scene away with. You know what? So this is this is I mean, if you go back in time, all of the whole city limits let's let's go. Whole City limits just go well, Bill Miller would break because the property this is the place that you and I were investing in back in those six or 78. And that was like 330,000 back then. Correct. What are they going for now? Hi. Four hundreds and hundreds of dollars last last month. Okay right now could be more down. Okay? Yes, I do the whole scope of it and let me before you do the scope and one of things we talk about is we do the whole Austin Board of Realtors reach right of all the homes they have listed, and it's you know, X amount of counties out there and it actually 18 counties that we're about to talk about. This is what makes it so surprising. Not wanting to Travis Hayes and Williamson County. Which radicals the Big Three here in the Austin area, right. This also includes bathrobe, El Blanco, Burn it, Caldwell Come out Fate. Gweilo Gillespie, Gonzales Land Passes Legal Lando Milon Sand, Sabah. Those were included in this tattoo. It simply homes out in these areas sit for a year, six months. Things like that. You know, there's just a lot slower moving. Yes. So for the whole MLS, That's all those counties. I just mention single family homes detached. There are 1284 actives. Today, and there's how many 6000 and something that are actually under contract. Indeed, 53 70 53 7 single family, So that ratios 70.24. It's great. That's the surprise I wanted. So it's been a few weeks I've been here and I think we were talking about last time. I was here for you even green, Maybe even like high four basically so houses inside the city limits of Austin. There's 267 active listings, so, but it's not like a and probably a lot of those air just went on the market. This'd do you think that the number of listings is going down or they're just turning over so quickly or what, or both? Both. Yeah, That's the problem and what Kevin and I've been talking about is and we asked you before we went on there. What's your number? Sean? Your homeowner in Austin, Texas. And if you sell your house? Yes, you're going to do very well on the appreciation side. But where you gonna live? And so that quandary is a question that a lot of our listeners are dealing with a lot of people cross Austrian dealing with right now. Wow. I've got a lot of appreciation I've built over the last 532 month. Um, you know on this house, but if I sell, I don't can't afford to go anywhere else and unless I go out, but it's some point can't go out either anymore. So I guess you Sean to get those lights going on. But you could go out to say Smithville. Maybe. Maybe Right? Yeah. Look, Okay, Let's call it West Texas somewhere, eh? So what is Shawn's number? I feel like I'm in a disco show. I wanna hit that light switch. What is your number? Sean? And that's what everybody. That's the question that everyone needs to know is when the market is going to turn again, Maybe we get some more inventory. It was when those numbers start being hit where it makes If I could sell my house for 500,000 of butter for 100,000. That's my number. Yeah. Or if your neighbor across the street sold two months ago for 600,000 well, and they have exact same houses that you have, what would you say? If somebody said okay, I'll give you 700 for years.
