A highlight from How the US Stole $3 Billion in BITCOIN! (CRAZY STORY)

"The secret Bitcoin billionaire. It's a story involving partying, burglary, online drug markets, and the IRS. His name is Jimmy Zong, and at one point he held over $3 billion of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin. It was stored in this popcorn tin in his lake house at Gainesville, Georgia, before being seized by authorities. The saga dates back to the earliest days of Bitcoin and ends right in my backyard of Athens, Georgia. It's time to discover the secret Bitcoin billionaire. Jimmy's story starts in the earliest days of Bitcoin. He was mining as early as 2009, the year Bitcoin launched, and boasted he mined over 300 ,000 Bitcoin. This is a value of over $9 billion today. He contributed to the Bitcoin code and even offered ideas to the early developers on how to reduce blockchain size. But Jimmy would go from being an early architect of Bitcoin to the world's most infamous Bitcoin hacker. The year was 2012. Silk Road had been launched the year prior by Ross Ulbricht, a libertarian who believed in the power of free markets. He created Silk Road so people could buy and sell anything they wanted, including a legal contraband, without government interference. It was like the Wild West, but with more drugs and less horses. The Walmart of the Dark Web, and it was an instant hit. It was a hit for Jimmy as well. Jimmy had developed somewhat of a reputation as a party animal in the downtown Athens bar scene. And not only was he a party animal, he was willing to splurge. Here's Jimmy's friend, Stefana Masich, describing Jimmy's behavior while downtown partying. buy He would me and my friends drinks, and then there were multiple times too where he would buy shots for everyone at the bars. He would buy shots for every single person in the bar? I mean like 100 people? Yeah, pretty much. But Jimmy didn't stop at alcohol, however. While downtown at a bar, he once bragged that he had $30 ,000 of cocaine back at his house. So, Jimmy was in a restaurant talking to some girls, and he happens to mention that he has $30 ,000 worth of blow at his house if they want to come back and party. $30 ,000 worth of coke. $30 ,000 of cocaine. Unfortunately for Jimmy, there was an off -duty police officer sitting in the restaurant one table over. That's just bad timing. It was really bad timing. Bad timing indeed. According to Jimmy, he used Silk Road to purchase the illegal substance. But Jimmy wouldn't just be a user of the site. He would later hack Silk Road for 50 ,000 Bitcoin. The details surrounding the hack seem odd for someone with Jimmy's knowledge of computer sciences. It wasn't exactly the criminal plans of a mastermind, rather something much more simple. In his statement, Jimmy says that the way he stole these Bitcoin was he was withdrawing some assets from Silk Road. He had been using it to purchase cocaine, and he realized if he simply double clicked, he could withdraw more than he had put in. Is that what happened? To the instance that he would just double click the withdraw button, we don't know the answer to that question. I mean, that seems awfully simple. But at the time, Jimmy wasn't punished. In fact, he was rewarded. According to Jimmy, Ross Ulbricht was so impressed, he reached out to offer a bonus for discovering the flaw. In addition to letting him keep the 50 ,000 Bitcoin for discovering the vulnerability, Dread Pirate Roberts gave Jimmy an additional 5 ,000 Bitcoin. However, it is important to note that whether or not Jimmy Zong and Ross Ulbricht had communication is in question. The federal prosecutors investigating the case were unable to find any proof. My name is Trevor MacLeanon. I'm a special agent with IRS Criminal Investigation. Jimmy alleges it. We couldn't find any evidence to support that position. But at the time of the hack, Bitcoin was only $10 a coin. But as Bitcoin ballooned in price, the 50 ,000 missing Bitcoin garnered more and more attention from the IRS Criminal Investigation Division. But it would be years later before there is a crack in the case. Here's Sean McGruder, Blocktrace CEO. His company is a contractor for the IRS and other government agencies that assists with complicated blockchain transactions. One of these special agents who I work with on the team calls me and says, hey, Sean, can you help out and assist with this? We can just take a look at it, you know, over the course of the weekend, that'd be great. And this was on a Friday. By Monday, I came back with an answer and said, hey, I think we might have something here. That something ended up being Jimmy's downfall. It was a big mistake from a small transaction. Jimmy had once sent $800 worth of his funds to an exchange with KYC, or Know Your Customer. An exchange with KYC will require their customers to share their name and identifying information. After another unexpected big break, investigators would follow these clues right to Jimmy's doorstep. That big break would actually be a break in. After a trip with friends that Jimmy lavishly paid for, he would come back home to discover his house in Athens, Georgia, had been broken into. The thieves would make out with more than $400 ,000. And even though he was sitting on tens of thousands of stolen Bitcoin worth billions of dollars, Jimmy turned to the police. He shared with authorities that in addition to cash, the burglars had stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of Bitcoin as well. This was an opportunity that federal authorities would not let go to waste. They reached out to the Athens Police Department to see if they could use this home invasion as a pretense to search Jimmy's home. They asked me about the Bitcoin and how much was in there and if he talked about where he got it from or anything like that. And I really didn't have the answers for him. But I told them, let me email them and I'm sure Jimmy will meet with us. Jimmy quickly agreed and Lieutenant Jody Thompson, Agent Trevor Macklin from the IRS, and Sean McRuder go visit Jimmy in Athens. Lieutenant Thompson's body cam was rolling the entire time. Zong, without hesitation, lets the investigators write in. Hey, this is Trevor and Sean. They're going to be with the team. Once inside, investigators get Jimmy to open his laptop and log in. What was on the laptop screen would shock investigators. When you're sitting next to him on the couch, he opens his laptop. What do you see on that screen? Low and behold, he had $60 or $70 million worth of Bitcoins right there next to us. So with one glance at the screen on his laptop, you could instantly tell this is a guy who's a credible suspect. He could have pulled this off. That's right. Authorities now had enough to execute their search warrant. Inside they would find $700 ,000 in cash. And inside a bathroom they stumbled upon a Cheetos popcorn tin. Inside the tin was a computer holding the stolen funds from Silk Road. Jimmy Zong's reign had come to an end. The party animal, the secret Bitcoin billionaire, had finally been caught. Jimmy was arranged on charges of wire fraud. And after a tense courtroom battle, he chose to plead guilty. The judge handed down a sentence of one year and a day in federal prison. Jimmy started serving his time behind bars at the federal prison camp in Montgomery, Alabama, July 14, 2023. The end of the saga saw Jimmy stripped of his illicit digital fortune. The U .S. government seized the stolen Bitcoin, ensuring that this chapter of cybercrime was firmly closed. The once daring, hacking maestro had lost everything. As Jimmy exited the courthouse on April 14, a throng of reporters clamored for a statement. Jimmy draped his coat over his head and briskly made his exit, leaving the questions unanswered and the world wondering. Why'd you steal the money, Jimmy? In the end, the secret Bitcoin billionaire's empire crumbled, not with a bang, but with a subdued exit from the world stage. Jimmy Zong, once a key figure at the heart of the digital frontier, now just another shadowy hacker behind bars.

"-3872. The Dan Bongino Show. No, this is not our weekly tribute to Alabama Dale. I know you may be confused, but because we've instituted college football Mondays, because ladies and gentlemen, Jim and I are pretty good at marketing the show. I mean, our marketing budget, Jim, is what? How much money do we spend? Zero, exactly. And we're probably one of the biggest radio shows. Top two or three. Number two podcast. Why? Because you know how to get the voice out there. So we want to appeal to the college kids. We do college football Mondays where we play all these college football songs associated affiliated with teams. And that is for you. Roll titers out there. Alabama big win this weekend. Jim's not happy. Thought that that little incident with the QB was ace. But listen, you know, no, I didn't see it. So I can't comment on it. Informal. I was out all weekend Saturday. So absolutely no college football got the scores. I know Alabama one and I will be at the Iron Bowl. So I'll see you there. Getting a little do a little tailgate there. So, uh, should I tell everyone where I'm going to be? I'm not sure where going I'm to be yet, but it may be near the Tiger walk. So although I have a special attachment to Auburn, much respect to the Alabama folks. Got a good coach. Good team there. Big game this weekend for you. By the way, Notre

"Man we haven't done this shout out in so long I forget all the titles but we always to have give the shout out to Alabama Dale it's just been a part of the show for a long time now he is the monarch of Mobile the Duke of Dothan the aristocrat of Auburn and the Baron yeah of Birmingham oh my gosh I got oh how'd I'm so crap don't even had a good memory that's so crazy I how remember all he's got a lot of titles folks it's not to keep track of people ask me why I don't add more a lot of places in them honestly cuz I just won't remember them all that's why it's tough to get those four down Alabama Dale hold it down brother hold it so I I brought up before how reputation has to matter and the problem and they're the reason our faith in institutions whether it's the FBI or the military or at really critical very dangerous slows is because the people in charge of these entities not necessarily the people working there have just buried them into the ground the Mark Millies of the world people who decide to do politics I mean I'll give you a perfect example a guy the Intel community up Michael Hayden a guy who's just lost his mind like a senior Intel guy in the United States government who's become like a Twitter troll he's like on Twitter calling Donald Trump for like spends all like day a political activist and this is going to have real ramifications in real the world because folks the world again is a beautiful place there's no reason to walk around in a funk all day that's an end Jim I although I know it's Wednesday and we're good with the FCC today then oh we're not we're not okay that's good I'm you glad said that you'd have to walk around in a funk all day the world is it's a great place take your kids on amusement park rides and watch the smiles on her face I mean I watched my daughter at the Auburn game the out of the iron ball does me she was so happy it's like but there's a lot of there's bad stuff that happens and the way to reduce the anxiety from the bad stuff is to have leaders in charge you people at least have a general sense of faith in their competency and honesty and we don't have that what makes me think of this is this story I just read yesterday I'm going through some stuff I'm trying to get ready for the show and I'll be honest with you it hasn't been like the craziest Newsweek ever but the weird thing is because there's not a big headline story you know I'm saying like you know that once in a while you'll get a big headline story that it'll give you show content for I mean mostly for all the wrong show content for a long time a primary a terror attack and you're talking about this stuff forever this week hasn't been the most you know off the charts Newsweek but there's so much stuff bubbling under the surface that requires us to have faith in these political leaders that it's just crazy we can't trust anyone here it is Sun Tom Malley China bring back it brings back masks and social distancing in a chilling echo of lockdowns over a mystery outbreak four years after coven there's another outbreak in China we discussed it yesterday nobody really knows what it is the Chinese Communist Party is insisting it's some form of pneumonia the problem from when I read is the Chinese Communist Party at least the information that slipped out which you can barely trust is that they've been giving them standard treatments for pneumonia over there and it's not working which I'm not a medical professional it says to me one of two things either there's some kind of resistant pneumonia to traditional drugs or it's not pneumonia I mean if you could think of a third reason I'd love to hear it now this is a big story because we just went through this matter of fact we're still going through this with the Wuhan coronavirus so when I read stories like this and I hear China's bringing back masks and social distancing I think to myself this is it these are the morons in charge you realize this is a very strong likelihood not certain but a strong likelihood that China's unnecessarily restrictive ridiculous lockdowns during COVID probably caused a resurgence in this virus or bacteria they're dealing with now I explained it yesterday and and Oh Dan you're not a doctor no I played dr. Nicole sapphire from Fox who is a doctor explaining it I'm not a stupid smart person I'm a smart smart person I know what I don't know and she explained in a very logical science -based manner that virus this in China or bacteria whatever it is it's causing this mass respiratory illness over there could just be something we've seen before and because China was locked down and masked up and social distance people's immune systems aren't used to it and therefore it's hitting them harder so what's the solution well course of the solutions to do the exact same thing that caused the crisis in the first place run around like a bunch of morons with the alcohol gel the masks on and the social distancing again it's like please smash head my against the desk because it feels good when it stops this is like let the now you expect this out of the Chinese Communist Party you do because communists are generally stupid best ever else that they wouldn't be communists I mean only a moron would believe in you from communists worse each according to their abilities to each according to their needs the first half of that is accurate from each according their abilities you will get nothing though according to you that's just the die -hard history of communism you will get something you'll get a body bag that'll be great you'll get a body I'd bag be just slide right it may not even be fit to you but you'll get one maybe you'll get a lot of you're lucky it's a hot car those things are awesome my issue isn't that china's gonna screw this up again and all that's bad enough with masks and social distancing which probably cause the respiratory illness they're break of it at least my issue is that this thing's now spreading no Dan it's in china no it's not express Alice Higgum fresh epidemic fears as child pneumonia cases surge in Europe after China outbreak apparently there's been a dramatic uptick in the Netherlands now folks we've seen this story for my problem with this again is not that the Communist Party China's in gonna do something dumb like reinstitute a bunch of failed policies that likely dead led them down this deadly path again my problem is we live in a free country where people actually know this stuff doesn't work and I can almost guarantee you if this thing makes it here I take that back when this thing makes it here they will do the same damn thing over again it doesn't matter why because as we opened up the show the dumbest people in charge right now are the people of the federal government nobody trusts them and the institutional value of the value of their institutional knowledge is zero people it's to the point now and it's so sad where conservatives, libertarians, republicans and even sane democrats whatever these institutions tell them the media the FBI some upper level members of the military in the intel community it's sad whatever but they tell you people believe the opposite it's the saddest thing I've ever seen that you have this outbreak of this respiratory illness in china now making its way over to europe it could come here we already know what doesn't work for this stuff and I can guarantee you people with important jobs I'm not saying they're good people but there's no question they're in important jobs that people with important jobs will come out and recommend to you tomorrow the exact same thing that exacerbated the covid crisis in the first place masks and social distancing guaranteed guaranteed now do you understand? I know this story, whatever mask the thing comes up it drives my producers nuts because it's a story I hate so much and I love to talk about because I hate it so much but they hate it but I bring it up because because it really is indicative of this of the world we live

Don't Miss Out on Your Opportunity to See 'Police State' Film

"Here he is. Dan Bongino. So I get a bunch of questions about the movie since police state since the response to it last night went kind of viral. People were leaving the theater movie in tears, singing the national anthem at the end. You can check it out yourself. Again, don't take my word for it. And go ahead if you do, I'm not lying to you, but always do your own homework. Just go to Truth or Twitter and just watch yourself. Everywhere from Maryville, Tennessee to Daphne, Alabama. People all got up to sing the national anthem at the end. I went to a screening. Murfreesboro? Where's that? Tennessee. Sorry, guys. My sense of geography outside, even in my own hometown is terrible. My wife's like, how are you always lost? Like, don't ask. Too many punches when I was younger. I was sparring with my brother. A highlight from The Latest Attack from Elizabeth Warren's Anti-Crypto Army

"Welcome back to The Breakdown with me, NLW. It's a daily podcast on macro, Bitcoin and the big picture power shifts remaking our world. What's going on, guys? It is Thursday, October 19th, and today we are talking about the latest salvo of Elizabeth Warren's anti -crypto army. Before we get into that, however, if you are enjoying The Breakdown, please go subscribe to it, give it a rating, give it a review, or if you want to dive deeper into the conversation, come join us on the Breakers Discord. You can find a link in the show notes or go to bit .ly slash breakdown pod. Hello friends. Today is blissfully not a Sam Bankman free trial day, and instead we're going to be talking about the other big topic that has lurked for the last couple of weeks, which is of course crypto's role in terrorism financing. Now as was completely expected, Senator Elizabeth Warren has used the Warren Israel to renew her calls for tighter anti -money laundering controls to be applied to the crypto industry. On Tuesday, Warren wrote letters to both the U .S. Treasury and the White House calling for officials to quote, take strong action to thoroughly address crypto illicit finance risks before it can be used to finance another tragedy. Alongside Warren, over 100 lawmakers co -signed the letter. These signatories were largely Democrats from both the House and the Senate, and the letter said, as Congress considers legislative proposals designated to mitigate crypto money laundering and illicit finance risks, we urge you to swiftly and categorically act to meaningfully curtail illicit crypto activity and protect our national security and that of our allies. The letter leaned heavily on Wall Street Journal reporting from last week, which had framed Hamas as quote, one of the most sophisticated crypto users in the terror finance domain. Also unsurprisingly, Warren's letter did not mention that Hamas had announced the suspension of their use of Bitcoin to receive donations in April, citing concerns that the ability to easily trace Bitcoin transactions would put supporters at risk. It did however acknowledge that authorities have successfully seized dozens of crypto accounts owned by terrorist groups over the past year. The letter set out a series of questions, quote, regarding Treasury's plans to address the serious national security threats posed by the use of cryptocurrency to finance terrorism. The questions largely related to steps currently being taken and asking for the administration's estimates of the size of the problem. Wall Street Journal reporting had estimated that over 130 million in crypto had been raised by Hamas and the affiliated terrorist group Palestine Islamic Jihad since August 2021. Now it is notable that support for this letter was much broader than Warren had previously gathered for her crypto anti -money laundering efforts. For example, crypto -friendly Democrats Josh Gottheimer and Jake Auchincloss were included in the ranks of co -signatories. Republican Roger Marshall, who has provided support across the aisle for Warren's anti -money laundering bill, also signed on to the letter. And as an indication of support within senior Democrat circles, Senate Banking Committee Chairman Sherrod Brown also signed. Brown will of course be a significant decision maker on whether the Warren bill progresses through the committee stage, and he tweeted yesterday, Hamas's terrorism is fueled by cryptocurrency. We need to crack down on illicit crypto and stop terrorists from moving money around, evading sanctions, and funding their acts of evil. We must curb this emerging threat and protect our national security. Now alongside the letter, Warren penned an op -ed in, once again, the Wall Street Journal with Roger Marshall as a co -author. The article laid out what has been reported about the use of crypto and terrorist financing to date. It claimed that, quote, Crypto has become a crucial pipeline for financing terrorist organizations, and researchers agree that the publicly reported numbers are likely a small percentage of the actual total. This revenue stream demonstrates the dangerous gaps in our oversight of international money flows. Terrorists, rogue nations, drug traffickers, and other criminals are using cryptocurrency to endanger our allies and U .S. national security. It's past time to apply the same anti -money laundering rules to crypto that already apply to banks, brokers, check cashers, and even precious metal dealers before these loopholes allow terrorists to finance more attacks. The lawmakers asserted that, quote, Decentralized finance companies should be subject to the same anti -money laundering rules as banks. Now that is essentially the proposal in the Warren -Marshall bill. The DeFi protocol should have KYC requirements placed on them in line with the rules applied to banks and large financial institutions. Industry figures have called the proposal entirely unworkable for small DeFi startups. And of course, it's generally believed that the bill would be more likely to result in U .S. users being banned from accessing DeFi rather than leading to ubiquitous on -chain KYC. Today's episode is brought to you by Kraken. For far too long, the whole financial system has been standing still. Too slow. Only on for certain hours. Overly designed for some types of people, but not for others. Crypto, at its best, represents progress. It asks the question, what if? It invites people in instead of leaving them out. It's on 24 -7, 365, and moves at the speed of real life. Not everyone believes it. We've got our fair share of detractors. But that's the way it always is when you're building something new. Kraken is a crypto company that has been through the highs and lows of the industry, facing forwards towards progress throughout. And now they're inviting us to see what crypto can be. Learn more at kraken .com slash the breakdown. Disclaimer, not investment advice. Crypto trading involves risk of loss. Cryptocurrency services are provided to U .S. and U .S. territory customers by Payword Ventures Inc., PVI, DBA, Kraken. As you might imagine, the industry had a lot of commentary on this letter and the surrounding issues. G. Kim, the head of policy at the Crypto Council for Innovation, said, In the U .S., we have clear AML -CFT rules and requirements for U .S. exchanges. From there, Kim pushed back on Warren's bill, noting that the issue is largely an international one which isn't addressed by domestic laws. He said that the crypto industry wants to work with lawmakers to, quote, stamp out illicit activity and that, quote, the industry can be a helpful partner. Then there was Norbert Michel, who wrote a piece for the Cato Institute this week called A Crackdown on Crypto Won't Stop Hamas. A key quote from the piece was, In a perfect world, it would be out of bounds to use incidents of horrific violence against innocent people to revive an otherwise unrelated political agenda. Nonetheless, it seems that Senator Elizabeth Warren and her colleagues are going to use the recent violence in Israel to gather support for the Digital Asset Anti -Money Laundering Act, a bill Warren's been hawking for months. Now, one really important thing to note here is that this bill is not focused on exchanges that have been caught processing Hamas transactions. It's about a seemingly unrelated issue of forcing KYC onto DeFi protocols. Former CFTC commissioner and now head of policy at A16Z Crypto Brian Quinten said, No serious policy maker would take a view on crypto and illicit finance without addressing the arguments of this piece. But maybe serious policy isn't the goal of some in D .C. when it comes to crypto. Alexander Grieve, who does government affairs at Paradigm, wrote, Crypto opponents will continue to tie crypto to illicit finance, despite that being a small subset of a larger industry and an order of magnitude difference relative to illicit finance in opaque tradfi in order to fit their narrative. Regardless of these opponents' motivations, however, crypto needs to play our part in pushing out any bad actors. So it is up to us to come up with policy solutions and practical technical ones where possible. Until we do, we're going to keep seeing these kinds of letters. Austin Campbell responded, The irony is that cracking down forces more of this offshore, which is where the problems are. Hamas has a nexus to offshore exchanges in Tether, not onshore. Just ban things is the tech -illiterate answer. Blockchain Association wrote a long thread, basically saying that of course the crypto industry does not support terrorist activity, but that Warren's letter was just wrong. They write, Here are the facts. Claim, crypto financing is responsible for the horrific actions of Hamas. Fact, crypto networks are transparent and for this reason Hamas ceased to accept Bitcoin earlier this year, citing the success of law enforcement efforts to track down donors. Only a small fraction of Hamas's funding has come from crypto. And what portion of that small amount was directly used to fund the attacks is unclear. Claim, Hamas evaded U .S. sanctions by raising millions of dollars in crypto. Fact, Hamas and non -U .S. entities have no obligation to follow U .S. sanctions laws. And they go on, but you get the gist. Now, one thing to note is that if you think it's just crypto folks who are making some of these arguments, assistant law professor at Willamette, Rohan Gray, who's no big fan of crypto but is a big fan of privacy, wrote, It's bad that we haven't built such a perfectly surveilled financial system that oppressed groups cannot fund themselves is not the progressive angle on this issue in my opinion. This isn't a Hamas -specific issue, it's an architectural issue. In the 1950s, it was the NAACP getting donations and the racist governor of Alabama trying to use that process as a weak point to demand donor lists and harass its supporters. In a separate tweet, Gray said, There are significant civil liberties costs and broader social risks of repressing dissent and marginalized communities by building a financial system that allows centralized actors to surveil and censor all transactions. We've been trying to make this point to the Warren wing for a while. Unfortunately, most of them are too busy hating on crypto to realize they've taken the wrong side of the financial privacy debate. I don't have all that much to add here, other than the things that people have already said. It is clearly on the face of it preposterous to say that these attacks happened because Hamas had access to money via crypto. It's just not true. It's not true in terms of a percentage of money that Hamas had from crypto in general, and it's certainly not true that they have some magical insight that those dollars were used to fund this attack. Using that sort of rhetoric is clear political opportunism, but it's very unlikely that a lot of people are going to call it out given the sensitivity of these issues, which is exactly why folks like Elizabeth Warren use these opportunities. Frankly, this is exactly the type of interaction that shows why people get so frustrated with American politics, but I digress. Now, speaking of sanctions, on Wednesday, the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control once again expanded the sanctions list in response to illicit crypto usage. While Hamas is already designated as a terrorist group, this update added 10 new members, operatives and financial facilitators operating in Gaza. Crypto wallet addresses were identified, including one Bitcoin address owned by a Gaza -based exchange known as Buy Cash Money and Money Transfer Company. The business, along with its owner and primary operator, were alleged to, quote, be linked to Hamas and were also added to the sanctions list. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a statement, Now, blockchain analytics firm Elliptic reported on Wednesday that several designated terrorist groups had used that particular exchange. They claimed that over $25 million in Bitcoin and Tether had been moved through it since 2015. At the same time, as some pointed out, one of the sanctioned wallets has around $16 worth of value in it and made its last transfer 18 months ago, bringing up the question of just how much this is for show versus an actual effective policy. Speaking of just for show, on Wednesday, blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis published a blog post titled, Correcting the Record, Inaccurate Methodologies for Estimating Cryptocurrency's Role in Terrorism Financing. Chainalysis is, of course, one of the premier firms for providing statistics on illicit funding flows through crypto networks, as well as in assisting authorities to disrupt, freeze, and seize assets. Their blog post stated that, quote, Chainalysis noted that terrorism financing is, quote, They recognized that, quote, And yet, in spite of this, they point out that, quote, Chainalysis walked through the newly sanctioned exchange by cash as a case study. They dug into specific transactions flowing to and from the exchange and concluded that it functioned more like a street -level money changer rather than being exclusively used for terrorist financing. According to Chainalysis, 82 million had flowed through the recently sanctioned address since February. Of those flows, Chainalysis found that only 450 ,000 worth of crypto was transferred to other addresses affiliated with terrorist financing. They noted that rather than the full amount which has been cited in recent reporting, Neeraj Agarwal from Coincenter summed it up this way, It looks like those estimates assume all flows through service providers that process illicit transactions are illicit. That's probably not the case. To simplify, if there's a rogue exchange that does a billion dollars in volume and they process one $1 ,000 Hamas transaction, it shouldn't be counted as $1 billion to Hamas. Neeraj also poured some cold water on a statistic that's been floating around that suggests that the UN estimates that cryptocurrencies account for 20 % of terrorist financing. Neeraj said, Basically, a senior legal official at the UN Counterterrorism Committee, Svetlana Marinovay, said in an interview from last year that a few years ago, 5 % of terror attacks were believed to be financed using crypto and she added that, In other words, this thing that is reported as fact is just a made -up source. Now, whether or not there is dubious information going into all of these things, it doesn't matter in how it's impacting crypto's place in Washington. A new research report from Berenberg Capital Markets claims that the reported use of crypto to fund Hamas may have set back crypto lobbying efforts in Washington. The report stated that efforts to pass crypto legislation could be quote, Complicated by recent media reports that put a spotlight on Hamas's use of crypto as a means of fundraising in recent years. And that quote, So friends, there you have it. If that's the latest, what we will be keeping an eye on is the extent to which this picks up particular momentum or whether this was the type of thing that was a one -time flag signaling for these 100 signatories who just wanted to be associated with the anti -terrorism team, which is how this letter tried to portray itself. To the extent that this does pick up and this bill becomes more of a going concern, I will of course let you guys know here. For now, I appreciate you listening as always. And of course, one more big thanks to today's sponsor Kraken. Go to kraken .com slash the breakdown to see what crypto can be. Till next time, be safe and take care of each other. Peace.

Well Nathan, we begin with the Israel Hamas war. Today's the final day of an extended six day pause in fighting. Hamas handed over a dozen more hostages last night and White House national security spokesman John Kirby hopes the pause will continue and is working to secure the release of American hostages. We don't have perfect visibility on where they are. We know Hamas can get to all the hostages if it wants to and has the ability to We'll do that. keep pressing to get these Americans out as much as we can. And one of Munger's biggest roles was steering Buffett away from investments he thought wouldn't pan out. There were so many of them that Buffett would refer to Munger as the Obama of old no man. A lawyer by training Munger helped develop a style of investing in companies for the long term. In 1962, they began investing in Massachusetts companies that made suit linings. Berkshire Hathaway became the corporate vehicle for a conglomerate. In 1987, they would make one of their best known investments, a billion dollars in Coca Cola. Mayor Adams also talked about the migrant crisis in the city and had some pointed words for the federal government saying we need to have a national solution to the problem. And as long passed through for the federal government to do its part and pay its fair share, New York City remains clear -eyed that for a year and a half now New Yorkers have been paying the federal government overdue and New Yorkers are angry. Mayor Adams says the city continues to receive 2 ,000 to 3 thousand asylum seekers a week. Billionaire Richard Branson is using fat to fuel his planes. "Alabama, bought it in 1951 and you can imagine they had a pretty tough time. Anyone who owned a farm down there had a tough time but a black family who saved up but I just want to read you what they took to have their piece of the American pie just a little of bit the deed. So they gave over everything, unencumbered, no leans, One red one horse mule named Red, one gray horse mule named Jack, one two horse wagon, one hay hay mover, one hay press, they gave mixed cattle, nine head of mixed cattle, one black sow hog, all of these things they gave over just to have their own piece of the American dream. And so when people talk about risk, when people talk about, you know, it's one I thing to can't say do it or to be intimidated, the industry is designed for everyone to be intimidated. So you hand your money over to a so -called expert, which is fine if that's what you want to do. But I am of the firm belief that if you buy and own great companies and manage your portfolio, that you can build a foundation for the next and taxes and so forth. You write about how all these implications affect what's going on. The Trump taxes are going to be lifted in about a year, year and a half, tax cuts that is. So how do you plan for that? What do you do? You do anything? Well, it depends on who you are, what tax bracket you're in. From an investing point of view, again, this is why you look at an company individual is. Many companies are smart. They're doing different things to take advantage or not take advantage, but in to get front of that, so to speak. Really, the bigger issue right now, to be quite frank with you, is the government spending. This is the biggest threat to the stock market and our economy and our prosperity. We are now at the where point Wall Street can no longer ignore

Moving to Selma Changed Our Lives: Unexpected Blessings, Unprecedented Favor

"Experienced a lot of favor in my life since becoming a Christian. That was really eye -catching and obvious. But one of the most powerful experiences that my wife and I have ever had was when we decided to follow our peace and move to Selma, Alabama. It was in 2020 so things were weird for everybody. So we just went with it. We were like, I don't know what's going on. And we had this elaborate plan to move to the beach. And Selma is not a good alternative to the beach. Selma is an impoverished area. It's a beautiful history and civil rights and just so many reasons to visit. But a hard place to go and live for sure here in America. And for American standards, it's actually a very impoverished area. And just it feels like you're in a real hard third world country on days. And so it's not an easy decision to move to Selma, Alabama. Especially when the beach was on the table. We actually had jobs lined up and everything there. But we just knew that we didn't have peace. And as disappointed as I was that there was no peace in moving to the beach, I just knew, okay, my wife is not having peace. I'm not having peace. What is the story here? God, what do you want us to do? And he basically explained to us that he wanted us to move to Selma. Through peace, that was his communication tool. So the thought of Selma came up. We thought, what about Selma? And our peace returned. And that contrast allowed us to make a decision that we should call our friend in Selma and see if there was anything that he needed us for. And of course, he did. He had an internship that we could move right into. And we had some money saved up, and so we moved. And the at very beginning, we noticed a tremendous amount of favor. It was unlike the place that we had been where, as some might say, the grace had kind of lifted a little bit in our previous situation, which had let us know that we needed to move on. But when we came into Selma, there was so much favor. People had genuine joy for us to even be here. We just felt like, wow, we made the best decision ever in moving. Because people were so wholeheartedly received us. And ever since we've lived here, my wife and I bought our first house here. And we've made good money here, and we've helped a lot of people. We've just done amazing things for the Kingdom of God, and we've been a part of so many things here. And we've built organizations and established different things here that are flourishing now. And I've never experienced favor like

A highlight from YSA Thoughts on YSA-Led Efforts

"As many of you know, we recently published three episodes from the new podcast called At the Table. This is produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints, and I had the privilege to help with this project as a consultant. After publishing the recent podcast on leading saints, those working at the church on this project were so impressed by the results and the feedback from the audience that they asked if we could share more episodes. Enjoy! And don't forget to send your feedback by taking the survey for each individual episode, which we will link in the show notes. help us all follow Jesus Christ together. I'm Jared Pearson, and I have the pleasure to be a co -host on the At the Table podcast. I'm currently in Provo, Utah, but I was born and raised in Livermore, California, right outside San Francisco, California. I ended up serving my mission in New Hampshire, the New Hampshire Manchester Mission, and some of my favorite things are playing pickleball, tennis, or staying inside playing some board games or reading books as well. And I'm just really excited to be part of this. My name is Kami Castrijon. I'm originally from Colombia. I was born and raised there, and I moved to the United States when I was 16. I moved to the big city of New York, and that's where I joined the church. And then soon after, I served my mission in Riverside, California. Then after my mission, I moved to Utah, and I've been here ever since. I love dancing, especially salsa, hiking, baking, and I am thrilled to be part of this amazing podcast At the Table. Welcome to the At the Table podcast. This is a debut podcast where we're going to discuss some important things having to do with YSAs and other people around the church and what new initiatives are going to happen. Specifically, we're going to follow some of the strengthening YSA principles that have been released by the church just recently. And here with us, we have a couple of new guests, and we'll go ahead and let them introduce themselves. My name is John. I'm originally from New Jersey, but I'm here in Utah at the University of Utah. I'm Mary, and I also live here in Utah. I like John, go to the University of Utah, lived here my whole life aside from my mission in Alabama. Well, awesome. We're happy to have you here. How long ago did you serve? I was there a little over two years ago, and I served in a little Spanish branch. Shout out to the Cahaba Spanish branch in Birmingham, Alabama. And then I served for 10 months on the campus at University of Alabama, as well as serving in the family ward there. I would translate all the sacrament meetings, and then I was called back to the Spanish branch to finish out the rest of my So mission. I got to know those two areas very well. They're very near and dear to my heart. That's awesome. John, did you serve a mission? Yeah, I did. I actually served here in Utah, just up in Ogden. So I didn't even know they needed missionaries here in Utah, but I guess so. Yeah, I was here about two years ago, and I loved it. So I just stayed. I just stayed here in Utah, and now I'm going to school. So you're both at school here. So what are you both studying? I'm studying strategic communications and Spanish. Big fan of communicating. Maybe that's why I'm here speaking on a podcast. My major is world languages and cultures for now. That's probably going to change. I don't know, but I've just always kind of had an interest in world languages and cultures. So that's what I'm doing right now. That's cool that you guys served missions and that you loved that and you moved to here. Can you tell us a little bit of your experience here and how you've collaborated with other YSAs and how you've seen that you've been able to lead? Absolutely. I have done a lot within my ward specifically, but also within the institute. And I know institute classes look a lot different depending on where you are living, but basically just being able to gather with YSA has been hugely influential for my life, not just in the way that I've been supported, but in the way that I've been able to serve and connect with others around me. And that includes during COVID, during the time that we couldn't really matter and what connection really is and how to make that time when you gather actually worthwhile.

A highlight from Rate Pause

"Hello and welcome to Ledgercast. My name is Brian Crossguard here, as always, with one and only Josh Olsowich. Hey Josh. Mr. Brian. How you doing? How are you? I'm good. I'm happy to be with you today. You're already cards pulled up, ready to go. I got my best podcast hoodie on, you know. Only the best Ledgercast family. Getting the hoodie season, depending on what part of the country you're in. For sure. My dear Alabama, I mean, this is the weather that you live here for. Like, most of the year is incredibly humid, but September, October, November, that's when it's the good stuff. Well, people didn't come on this podcast to hear about the weather. They came to hear about head and shoulders. We always start with the weather. I know. It's like a podcast faux pas, but we do it anyway. It's the human experience. There's a head and shoulders on like every market on all timeframes. Like, you can't not see it. ETH, Bitcoin, S &P, Qs, any risk market, we'll put it like that, any risk market looks very, very toppy still to me. What are your thoughts on, you know, as we enter our 37th week as macro LARPing traders? Yeah, well, this continues to tell a story, right? Dollar legitimately been up only on a weekly basis for more than two months. Hold on, hold on. Jeff in the chat said. Jeff, were you listening for your show? We were just discussing the accelerated aging of Ryan in the show. I feel like I feel like the bear market is hitting me in every possible way right now. Sorry, continue. Yeah, I'm I'm going to be very gray and old and wrinkly if I make it through another cycle. Anyway, the Dixie is up. Yield. You know what I realized this week? Back to the Dixie for a sec. I realized that the Euro chart, Euro USD is basically the Bitcoin chart. So if you're rooting for Bitcoin, you're basically rooting for the Euro chart. I don't know how that's going to work out. It's not the team I want to be on right now. No, I agree. I don't know how that's going to work out for us because that Euro chart looks bad, quite awful. Yeah, that's bad. So I keep that in mind generally for people, you know, if you see some good news or positive news in Euro land, which I think is rare these days, it should generally signal wellness for Bitcoin. Yeah. Well, it's mostly that dollar strength. It's just not. Yeah, it's all it's all just the same thing. Right. Yeah, exactly. We titled the show Rate Pause because rate hikes were paused. So this is the first time in quite some time that we've gone into FOMC with no change. The result of that was you start to see the 30 year kind of catching up to the two year because they also said that they are planning on staying high for longer. So we're not going to do the thing where we just immediately start going into cuts. And so, yeah, it may not have the desired effect that people might expect by a rate pause. At this point, holding rates at this level is restrictive eventually, right? It gets more and more restrictive as the lower interest rate that like rolls into this new environment, you know? Right. But I think it's honestly, I agree with the Fed. I think keeping it here and doing a wait and see type attitude makes more sense than keep raising and then panic cutting when the time comes. I think you have a potential to break a little less in this regard. I think they should have paused a while back and should have started way before they did. But nevertheless, the idea of pausing but not committing to a cut, I think is reasonable. Well, the markets didn't get angry at pausing. The markets got angry because they hinted at two more hikes still. So if that actually happens, I don't think it will. Look, I'm a chaos agent. I say go all the way, right? Pedal to the metal, no half measures. If you want to kill the economy, go for it. So yeah, let's do two more. Let's do one in November, one in February, whatever. I don't know. I think the consensus, though, is that markets aren't going to last that long. Markets being the economy, I guess. But the economy just isn't going to last and hold up through that. So unemployment is going to tick up considerably. That's the expectation. You're not going to get your soft landing. And Paul basically said as much that that wasn't his base case during the meeting. So you got to keep that in mind when you're looking at risk markets like crypto and alts especially are just still obliterated and continue to look terrible. Two -year looks like it wants more. The three -month yields look like, all the yields look like they want more. Yeah, they're all acting like it. Especially if you take today out of the picture, which I'm not sure I'm going to read too much into what's happening on a Friday. Well, we had, so yesterday we had a negative 1 .6 % day on S &P. And there were already legacy analysts coming out saying, oh man, Paul's going to have to cut this year. It's been one day. You people are so soft, so pathetic. Pillsbury Doughboy over here asking for cuts after a down day. Give me a break. Just absurd. The chart on the S &P does look like it has room for more downside like that. Oh, for sure. Pretty clean breakdown, but it's not in panic mode. It's in the middle. It's in the chop zone. 4200 makes all the sense in the world based on some basic technical analysis. Look at the 200 -day moving average. All this is just meaner version. You have people panicking that the number is going down instead of up and they're pathetic. I mean, that's legacy for you. Even when you look at non -technical analysis, if we were in price discovery for the stock market right now, it would not make sense. It just does not make sense relative to the economy. But ledger, price is in the forward future. It doesn't look at what's happening now. We're not going to get a recession. We're going to get a huge GDP print, man. Forward future looks like we got another year or two of grinding. Like grinding economically, trying to figure out this balance of wage inflation, commodities inflation, cost of goods. There's a balance that has to exist there. Life is more expensive for people. Their homes are more expensive and their business loans are more expensive. are Their wages up, but they're not caught up to that. And so the economy needs to figure itself out. It needs to find its Zen zone. I agree. That could take time. But that's not the S &P. The S &P is eight companies who have billions of dollars, don't need to borrow, don't need debt at this interest level. But now the problem, I think Apple especially, I don't expect their new phone to sell gangbusters because the economy is... It's one of the easiest things to not upgrade. Right. Well, that as well. But USB -C, right? Welcome to the 21st century, everybody. So I'm expecting those numbers to be soft. The Nvidia story seems to be softening, even though it's hard to really know what's going on there. There's still lots of lots of demand for those checking news. Yeah. But I guess the point is, who cares about the rest of the S &P, the 493, right? It's all about the top seven right now. And if those are weak, which they are, just in the charts, the markets are going to turn lower because you're not getting any help from the other 493. All right. I want some of what Andre is drinking in the chat. I'm just going to plop this onto the show. Here we go, Andre. This is your moment. Fed waits another year to lower rates than the BTC happening. The presidential election and lower interest rates are all going to be happening at the same time as we go into the next bull run. Space exclamation point, which is another way of saying triple exclamation point. Where do you put that space in front? Andre, I'm with you. I hope you're right. I think people believe that if they cut, then that will be bullish, but they won't cut until things look terrible. So if they're cutting, then we have a different problem, right? We have a recession if they're cutting, right? It's over if they're cutting. We just have to dodge a recession. You just have to dodge a recession. Around halving, whatever. And then there's this other school of thought, which is kind of what Andre is hinting at. Maybe the halving doesn't matter. Maybe it's just a coincidence that we've been in these four -year business cycles, and it's just lined up perfectly. I've seen that narrative growing recently, which is surprising to me, but it makes sense. Look, if you look at the data and you just don't pay attention to halving, I agree. But I think the halving brings eyeballs. It brings people understanding the asset a little differently because they're like, oh, wait, what do you mean? The supply is going to be cut in half or whatever, the daily emissions. Anyway. And meanwhile, Bitcoin and ETH both basically at their 200 -week moving average. This was okay. So that's the tweet you have up. This was my engagement bait last night. This is if anybody was paying attention. It's comparing the 200 -week and the 200 -day moving averages on Bitcoin. The last time... They're converging. Yeah. So they're converging. And the last time it looked like this was 2015 for a bull cross. It technically didn't cross bearish in 2015. I just want to highlight, though, Josh. We are both getting rejected by that right now, if you look at this weekly. Yeah, but that's okay. It's September. It's key three. I don't care. But yes. They're just winding around in there. They're meandering. It's not good. Also, one other comment. Yeah. Gotta work on this hashtag. 250k or bust. Gotta work on that. Well, that's the target. We need some ideas. That's the 8000 % target from here is 250k. That's where that came from. Yeah, we gotta do better. 250 by 25 is too much of a mouthful. I feel like the phrase millie needs to be in there. Millie? Quarter millie? Quarter millie. Maybe just full millie. Look, I've been on the record. 250k is the target for the next run. Okay. Even before this tweet, the stars are aligning. Yeah. People are saying what's happened to me. I'm using a different camera. I'm in a different place. And I got a haircut today. And everyone says you look old. I look weird and old. I am old. Here, I was I was puffing you up early. You're telling me I look good. And I was telling you how old I felt. And now the whole chat's like, hey, you look old. You look terrible. I think you look fine. But you know, maybe it's the rates, you know, the rates are just killing everybody. It is the rates. I'm gonna go ahead and go out on a limb and say that I'm affected by that. Sure. So yeah, if we look at if we look at Bitcoin, also, We've also got if you don't like the head and shoulders, at the very least, you have to admit there's some sort of double top there. Yeah, double top, lower, lower low by a smidge. Rejected by the fast and long moving averages potentially. There's a there's reason to be concerned here. If we're above 28, at any point Q4, I think we're good for move higher, which doesn't like logically make sense based on what's going on in the world with rates and everything. So if this then that if we get above 28, we're good. Until then, I expect lower lows, ETH especially. What's going on with ETH, man? You're the ETH fanboy, the ETH cheerleader. What's happening? It's even better than BTC in terms of rejection off the 200. That's clean. It's nice and clean. That's a dump it. Let me translate that for everybody. That means it's even more bearish. I think this tells some of the story like there's not many people in the ecosystem that don't consider pair trades, you know, like opportunity cost or a risk profile of being in one thing versus the other. And a lot of people are dancing on like long tail of altcoins. Like they'll play on those playgrounds. But the people that are in big assets are looking at this where ETH BTC is breaking down further. It looks like it might be escalating. It looks like it might be going from breakdown to a steady progression to the downside. And I don't know, maybe that also looks double toppy to me. Yeah, but maybe another 10 -15 % on ETH is on that relative to BTC and people just don't see the upside as worthwhile. I get it. I understand. I like 05. And if 05 doesn't survive around the ETF stuff, assuming the ETF stuff is going to be bullish, I like 03. I think a 200 week tap at a minimum would make sense. So, you know, you're looking at another 10 % relative in that scenario. And that would probably be a bullish bottom. Bullish, she says. A bullish bottom if it maintains that. I'm sure, I don't know harmonics well enough to just like eyeball it, but I'm sure there's some sort of harmonic. Batwing harmonic, yeah. Yeah, there's something there where you could draw like a crab or something. If this one's a 0 .03, that would be concerning. Well, what's the breakout level of the head and shoulders? Like 0 .035, 0 .036? Yeah, I think that's reasonable. I think that would put ETH people, myself included, just in Jordan tier mode. Look, if ETH doesn't get an ETF and Bitcoin does and it actually sees flows. It could happen. It could happen. That's all I'm saying. That's all I'm saying. Hit your targets, Josh. 0 .053 before 0 .035. That's true. I mean, we need to spot ETF first, which... That's just math, just so you know. And dyslexia. It's just kind of interesting that it has not made a higher high since going proof of stake. Kind of weird, right? The Real Dangles asks, can we do a mini series on learning macro fundamentals? I've only ever looked at crypto, so half of what you guys talk about is foreign to me. No, but there's some people that you can learn from. One of the best, in my opinion, and I was... Jeebus was giving me crap about this, but Ray Dalio is, I think, the greatest macro mind that actually takes their information and then shares it. Big Debt Crises is a book. It's a study of cycles, basically. It's a study of deflationary, inflationary cycles, and they're very good. I would read that. That's a great start. Like, that'll be good. That could teach you more than I ever could. There's many, many other things, in addition to what he talked about, that go into what he talks about. But at the end of the day, it's all about cycles. And that's a terrific book. I would listen to a bunch of podcasts on macro stuff. Blockworks does a billion of them. Yeah, but don't worry. If you listen to those, you'll end up a bear. So you gotta know that going in so that you don't end up a bear. I don't care if you're bullish or bearish, but being able to form your own opinion, that's the end goal. But people that do nothing but talk macro are all bears. They're all dirty bears, Josh. I agree with you. They're doomer macro people. But just knowing the language and knowing what people are looking at definitely helps you understand what the hell is going on. If you listen to them, just know that you need to protect your beautiful, bullish beauty. Don't take their advice, air quotes here. Don't take their advice. Your beautiful, bullish innocence needs to be protected when you listen to the doomer bears. You'll learn all about the SPR and why it's the end of the world. What is it about macro that makes people perma bears? I don't know. I think all this cyclical stuff, the raining down of potential for bad makes you think it's imminent. Yeah, they're very pro -commodity, pro -being anti -market. That's their whole personality and identity. Now I'm thinking of Sven specifically, for those of you who know who that is. But the macro people will be wrong for years and years and years. And then we'll finally get a down move. And they'll be like, yes, I told you so. Now I've lost all my money and the market 10xed at that time. But I told you so. We would get a correction. But I like that about them. The macro people also generally don't like Bitcoin. Some of them do, certainly. But most of them don't. So that tells me we still got time. It's still early. There are very few Lynn Alden's of the world where I simultaneously massively respect their macro analysis. And they don't discount crypto. She does discount everything but Bitcoin. But I'll forgive her for that. Because she's already really good at two things. That most people can't combine their goodness of that. Yeah, she's great. That's another easy listen as far as trying to pick up. She just wrote a book about money, too. I'm sure it's got some good macro stuff in there. There you go. So we'll stop that. Rate's up. Murray, I don't know what we're saying is like Michael Murray. But if he's a doomer bear, then yes. Yeah, this is a doomer bear that he was right at the right time on the right cycle as the media fell in love with such characters. So that carries a lot of weight. Like he can now be wrong for the rest of his life, but he was still right in 2008. But I respect people that have these opinions. I just think it's a lot easier to make money if you're a bull over the long period of time. I agree. Tripsy says he thinks the TA makes a better bear case than macro. I agree. I pay attention to the macro because it's kind of interesting. And having the ability to discuss it is powerful. But if all I do is pay attention to the TA, then I'd be fine. If you see the macro and you make this great bear case and then you see the chart and the chart looks like it wants to explode to the upside, don't make the trade. Not financial advice, but don't sell everything in that scenario. I wouldn't. But if the chart looks like doo -doo and the macro looks like doo -doo, then maybe it's just doo -doo. Well, knowing yields and rates helps you understand the DeFi angle a little bit. Knowing risk premium helps you understand like if I'm not getting paid an insane amount in DeFi right now, it's just not worth participating. You know? Yeah. Assuming a risk -free rate in U .S. government bonds, treasuries, whatever, you're not getting paid that differential in DeFi. Typically, you are seeking yield growth balance, right? There's some combination or you're looking for either or, but there's a balance of yield and growth. If your available yield today is high, so let's say you can earn 5 % in a money market or something like that, then two years ago, you could only earn 1%. Then your need for growth is even higher to make up for your annualized compounding year -on -year returns because when you're seeking growth, you're compounding that growth to make up for the lack of yield. So when the yield is higher, you need even more growth so people get less interested in the growth because the growth needs to be so severe to replace easy yield that's available today. So that's why risk assets that focus on growth look less attractive when yield is high. That's a general concept that can be useful. I always like to think about the extremes. So they used to say, Tina, there is nothing else when you're talking about allocating capital. So if there was no yield before, you get all this crazy VC shit and altcoins and NFTs. Because it's growth at all costs. Because that's it. That's the whole game, right? Now that there's a balance, it'd be much harder to create something like FTX in this environment where you can get a yield, you know? Yeah, there is demand for return on those dollars that's not just growth, that's not just bring it back to me more valuable. Did you hear that NFT story? The NFTs are 95 % worthless thing? Yeah. Yeah, there's some really good replies from NFT people that I thought were worthy. I've retweeted one of them. I don't remember who it was. I think it was the punk person that works, that does the streams all the time. Pink haired punk. You know, most of them always have been worthless is what they mentioned. And I think that they're doing a classic throw the baby out with the bathwater thing. Like the speculation on JPEGs was always going to pop. The underlying technology does have inherent value, it's just who's going to win from that. Like, will all the current market participants, collections, companies, whatever, will they all go away and then somebody will rise from the ashes and win the technology emergence where game the underlying technology can be taken advantage of to create real business value? I think that's what will happen, but which of us will be there to survive it? And then some stuff will get Lindy effects of art, digital art. There was product market fit, there is product market fit for that. But like, you can't just mint 10 ,000 pineapples and expect to make millions of dollars now when there's nothing else. If your denominator is infinity, then yeah, 95 % are useless.

"We all have those songs that we wake up singing, or songs that once you hear them you can't get them out of your head whether you want to or not. Years ago, when I was in country radio, there was a song by country singer Colin Ray. I think it was actually written by Phil Vassar, another country singer -songwriter. It's called Little Red Rodeo, back in like 97, 98 I think, it was a big hit, Top 5, something like that. Every time I heard it, it was one of those I couldn't get out of my head. Fast forward a couple years later, I'm not playing it anymore on the radio, I hear it on some other radio station and guess what, I'm stuck hearing it in my mind every morning for kind of like a week. It's kind of like Groundhog Day. The other day, I was listening to a classic country radio station out of Gadsden, Alabama. I tuned it up and what was one of the first songs I heard? Little Red Rodeo by Colin Ray. Now of course, that was about a week ago. What do I wake up singing and thinking every morning now for the last week? Little Red Rodeo by Colin Ray. It'd be one thing if you were singing songs and thinking about songs that you really truly liked. Sadly, it's still stuck in my head. Woke up singing it again this morning. It's kind of tough when you got those songs going through your head that you want to get rid of, but you just can't.

Weather Delays (MM #4564)

"When you've been on Earth as long as I have, you often wonder when something changed because you remember growing up it wasn't that way and now it is. For example, weather delays in football. Growing up, they played in all sorts of weather. Football weather was always cold and nasty and there'd be snow, there'd be rain. But in the last few weeks, we had a weather delay for lightning when Vanderbilt was playing Hawaii. I know Notre Dame had one last weekend of the University of Alabama. The University of Tennessee had them as well. They're all weather delays for lightning. Now, it hasn't always been that way, but I wonder is it getting more prevalent because of climate change, because we're getting more lightning storms, or is it something that's been around I just didn't notice back in the day? I truly don't know the answer. I've spent hours looking on the internet to find out when we came up with this half -hour delay for a lightning strike. They do it with concerts too here and we have it all the time here in Nashville. We have very volatile weather. We get a lot of lightning storms. I don't remember as a kid. Did we have that much lightning? I know it's things I think about late at night. Weather delays. They're getting more frequent. Or is it just me?

"alabama" Discussed on Live From Studio 6B

"All right, live from Studio 6B on a Friday night. Slick Rick is with me in the house for a Friday night reel, America's Voice. It's gonna be a busy night. We are expecting President Donald Trump at the Alabama GOP Summer Dinner in just a little bit. Slick Rick, how are you? Doing good, Big D. Getting ready. Getting ready. Friday night, fired up. That's exactly right. The President will be speaking and I've taken I took a look at some of the advanced copy of his speech and because you know the thing I think the President has to think about going forward and I don't know what you think about this Slick Rick is to be able to find that balance in all of these all of these stops he's going to do. To find that balance of being able to talk about the future of the country delivering the for the future what he wants to do and his plan and still looking back on what he did as President but not spend all of these speeches just relitigating 2020 and overly spending time on of course he has to address it the attacks on him of course. But to find that balance will be what I'll be keeping my eyes out tonight for to see that balance of does he still pitch the future and what he wants to do talk about what he did and then find the time to litigate all of this nonsense that's going on with him. Big D I believe he will. I you know hey nothing's past President Trump he can get everything done Big D but quite frankly I do this is all part of the plan they want to knock him off course and you know him he's as focused as you can be I think I'm curious to see too but I think he shows that balance he gives us what's going on now and you know the phony indictments and all this baloney and then he's going to get into what he's going to do for the country I think he'll do it.

"Josh, you're there. Papa is up next. Hi, Paul. Good afternoon. A wonderful interview you had with our man yesterday. He must be a real fine gentleman. Your you asking me to answer you under oath or just among Friends. Well, I'll just among France. He's a great person. Good. I'm distressed. And real story about the problem that happened over at the university. You know, I don't pull for him, but I've got a lot of friends that do and. We've been there before and I feel for him. I hope it works out for the best of the university and for the best of athletics than to ask these people. Well, thank you very much. I appreciate that. Lee is up next in Ohio, Lee, good afternoon. Hi, Paul, on the second leaf from Ohio in the last ten minutes. Man, I thought I thought it was Groundhog Day. Well, your show is finally made the big time. But Paula, I just wanted to make a point about betting that I want to make sure everybody else understands to affect betting a coach does not have to throw a game and deliberately lose it. All he has to do to affect the way bets are made is tell someone this guy is not going to be here this week. He's coming home. This guy is not going to be here this week. He's got a great problem. He can't pitch. He's on a pitch count. Outfield, he's got a sore foot, no one knows it. That's all they really have to do to change the way betting goes. So I think that we're jumping to conclusions about fixed games when it really might be as just a lot of insight information, which is bad enough as it is. I want to make sure everybody else, I would agree. I would think that the damage here, if I'm just. Hypothesizing, would be something that happened before the game, not during the game. Oh, absolutely. I absolutely think you're correct. That's why I want people to understand it's probably some better found out or he has a secret way of finding out. He knows he knows a coach. You know, somebody in their organization, our best pitchers on a pitch count or our best outfielders really feeling badly because his girlfriend's ill or something like that. That's all you really have to tell a better and that will change betting suddenly and they'll wait until just before the game to put their bets in. Yeah, and nowadays with cameras everywhere it may not be as difficult to come up with something like that is we think it is. Well, I think you're right. The whole situation is sad for me. I'm an Alabama fan. I'm also a college baseball fan. Heck, I'm a Paul fine bomb fan. So I think the whole thing is sad. I think we're going to find out later that it's whatever it is, it's an ugly look for sports, but I really caution against thinking, well, this game was fixed or that game was fixed. All it takes is a little insight information to change way bets are made. Well said, thank you very, very much. Matt is in Kentucky Matt. You're on the air. Hey, mister time bomb. We've had our share of scandals up here in Kentucky for 75 years. So I don't want anybody from Alabama to think I'm sitting in judgment. The commentator I heard late last night on another radio station remarked that Alabama was allowed to score two runs that closed the gap 8 to 6 and the spread was two and a half. Did I misunderstand him that they scored two reds late in the innings to bring the score closer? By the way, I will be corrected almost immediately, but I don't think you bet baseball by runs. Do you know what you just bet on odds? Well, this guy, this guy, this commentator, it was out of a lot picking up out of the Louisville radio station, but it's part of a national regional link, this I mean, I hear what you say, you're right, but this is I'm trying to quote this guy's accurately as I can possibly do so. Well then that's what. That doesn't make sense though. And it's way out of my expertise, which most things are, but I don't think if you fire the Alabama baseball coach, you have to do deductive logic and think, what are the tributaries from his from him to any other entity that could have created this scandal? And he right now is the only person connected to it. Right now. Okay, okay. Well, I'll tell you what. I'll try to listen again to that sports show in the united kitchen guys name. Well, we have a few more to call. I don't think, hey, thanks for the call. Appreciate it. AC is up next. Hey, good afternoon, mister fine bob, thank you so much for taking my call. Thank you. Absolutely. I did call up doctor rich Wednesday. And I recall them up today. They did not take my call because they got scared. Oh, man, everybody lost the skirt. And they should be lifted into your station. I feel like every single city moving to your station, you do a fantastic job, mister fine bob. The love season. Let me finish yesterday that I should have told you how much I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. Love you, dude.

"Welcome back, Matt is up next in Tampa, hello Matt. Good afternoon, Paul. How are you doing today? Very well. Thank you. Good to see you. Let me preface this. I am an LSU law that I massive, but Tiger fans. So you'll see where I'm headed here in a second. A few, I guess about half an hour ago in the show, guys from Louisiana named Dan called and kind of said that something that I thought quite often, which is LSU seems to expose Alabama in a lot of ways and a lot of different sports. Especially even in football, they both have two of the last four between the two schools and one the second most national championships in football in the conference behind Alabama in the last two decades. Why did you kind of chew them off when he said that? I think it was more him than it was the subject, but yeah, I'm aware of that. I just don't think today now he was trying to argue and he gave he gave some very faulty arguments by also including basketball in his conversation, which LSU basketball was not really on the map this year while Alabama had the best team in the SEC. No, thank God for women's basketball. I will give he may have confused women's basketball for men's basketball. I got you. And then the second question that I've got, I know you don't have a lot of details. I'm just, I think all of us who are LSU baseball fans because you know how important that sport is to LSU fans. I think all of us are perplexed by this whole Bama gambling scandal, if you will, or the coach scandal over there, considering that bamboo was such a heavy dog. I know that's blasphemous to say on this show, but in baseball, it's a different game than football. I mean, I just don't understand. Help me with this, because I do not understand gambling on baseball. And other than winning the game and if you're better on LSU, you're probably taking a high, very long odds on winning much money, but there has to be if you're just speculating some connection. You don't fire a baseball coach this quickly and I mean this quickly, this has been going on probably for three or four days without a significant amount of information that would lead you to believe he did something nefarious. Yeah, I mean, I would have to completely agree. And I mean, I hate to admit it, but obviously Greg bird has had a lot of success and they would have to have heard something that would have come down the pike that would have done him in. And led to something some sort of question. Well, the first report of this was what, three or four days ago and I didn't pay much attention to it. We had a caller who did that when somebody in some sports book decided not to take any more action and then another one got in. So Alabama has been in the loop for a couple of days. And again, you're talking about a coach who is not in the news very often, but he was fairly highly regarded. In fact, I saw some comment from burn that one of the Alabama dot com reporters Michael Costa Grande dug up a few minutes ago from an interview with the Tuscaloosa news last year where he said I love coach bohannon. He is extremely smart, works his tail off recruits every chance. He has the has the opportunity. And here's the key line, the culture within the program is really good. Really? I guess the culture would be good. Yeah, they can certainly hit the baseball. I can tell you that LSU was certainly impressed by the way that they hit. Going back to the action or how you would set up, I mean, did they think he runs shaved? Well, Matt, why you have to chisel this down and think for action to be it's one thing to put the coach under suspension. Pending an investigation to make the decision that they made would lead me to believe that they had incontrovertible evidence that he's in the middle of something, okay? I'm not privy to what that was, but if you understand betting and you understand all the different tributaries, there can only be a handful of things that he could have been involved with here. Yeah, I mean, LSU is the number one number one 6 before the season started. It would be hard for me to think that he would have said something up and I understand it's speculation, but he would have said something up to try to limit Alabama's offense when you're already playing a team that's heavily favored to beat you. It's just. To me, there would have to be there would have to be proof of some connection between him or someone near him and some gambling entity. Yeah, that makes sense. You can't try to throw a game against the best team in the country. So you have to go the other way and who knows. I don't know. Until yesterday, I didn't even know you could bet on college baseball. So I am way, way behind the curve here. Trey is up next. Hey, Paul, did you happen to watch any of those gains between Alabama and LSU? No. I'll just Saturday and Sunday gang. And I watched all three games. Alabama was up three and four runs late in the innings in both games. And even on the game in Saturday Paul, he took out a picture that was playing pretty well and he brought in almost four pitchers. I think it was the 6 or 7th inning and those pitchers gave up two home runs ended up walking in four runs and hit two batters. That was all in one inning. So Paul my question is if the coach was trying to point Shay or win money on a game and I'm not accusing I'm just thinking here. So I don't want to start something, but by the way, accusing at this point, you're not making that big of a leap, okay?

"Right, so we're gonna pick this game. Nick Smith. What are we gonna, you know, next myth is this is a big moment for him, frankly, you know, having come back just a short while ago, and another potential top 5 pick, Arkansas, has not been a reliable team on the road. You said it was 8, I will pick Arkansas. We have picked all these, by the way, check out that CBS sports app. We do have our picks also on the site. We try and make the picks on the pod match the ones on the site. That doesn't always happen. So adventure for you. Full adventure. You know, I think last week I had on the podcast I had Kentucky plus four and on the site I had Tennessee minus two. Let's play in the middle. It was funny was I think it was last week. We're gonna give the semi occasional shout out to Seth Davis, dedicated podcast listener. And he sometimes, you know, texts us over the course of listening to an entire episode. Yes, Seth, we're putting it out there. Because you know what? We need people to know you're all in on the show. And I think it was last weekend where he was like, GPA GP, I agree. You took this and you were like, no, I didn't take that. Now, he's like, I listen to the show. You just picked me. So even then, after the fact she's like, no, I don't think you got it right, Seth and says, I just listened to you. You did just pick this thing. Whatever you want. I don't know what I'm doing. So that in mind, I will take Arkansas inside of that number. I expect this to be a pretty competitive game. Again, Alabama would have lost a South Carolina. They go back home, Tuscaloosa will certainly be an interesting scene, but give me must raise her backs to be inside of 8 points. This could be a game that features the two the first two college players selected in the 2023 NBA draft. Brandon Miller at Alabama Nick Smith junior at Arkansas, both are coming off monster games, Brandon Miller got 41 points, as you know, at South Carolina. Nick Smith coming off a 26 point effort against George. I think Alabama wins the game. I will take Arkansas to cover. Numbers a little too big. Arkansas plus the 8. Game two, Saturday, 2 p.m. eastern number 8, Texas. At number 9 Baylor inside the hook center. You can watch it on ESPN Kim pom has it. Baylor minus two. I will go. I think this is the toughest of the 5 on the board. I will say Baylor responds, gets it done. The defense man, I don't know if

"Day, bubba is next up. Hey, bubba. Hi, hey Paul. I want to commend you on your interview with the Oklahoma. That was outstanding. Thank you, Barry Trammell, yeah. And on a serious note, I'm having the worst Valentine's Day alive. Why is that? My wife got my wife's got called to mobile Alabama. Her mom raised from the hospital of the family. She's dying. And it's essentially our home she fell straight, which is gonna break three days now. Hospital told them not to cut a wake up. Just let it go. So I'm asking for prayers for them. I bought them above my wife roses and had them sit down there and I thought all my sister in law found her roses. But it's not a good Valentine's Day. Well, bubba certainly hate to hear that. We appreciate it. And I know many people will keep your family in their thoughts. So well, thanks for sharing your call with us and your thoughts and hopefully look forward to better days. Thank you so much. That's a tough way to spend a holiday like this. Dane is up next in Birmingham, a hello Dane. Uncle Paul, you doing all right? I am. Thank you. Man, I heard that long list of guests you have on today, but you didn't tell everybody the dame the softball caller was calling in today. You caught me by surprise. I wasn't expecting this. Usually you call post a disaster. Well, you dodged me last year after the college World Series. You were at the beach, man. Other guys were doing the shows. You've been dodging me. Well, we've had that. I've always talked to you after the fact, never before the fact. So let's have it. Let's get it out on the let's get it out in the open here. Well, Paul, I'm calling about the disaster of your boy Patrick Murphy, dropping the season opener to Lehigh. I mean, what kind of clown show is this? I mean, projected fourth in the SEC this year for fourth or 5th for probably the first time in years. Last year after the college World Series all he had to do was smile and say, oh, well, we should be back next year. We've only got two seniors leaving. And then you got 7 girls transfer. I mean, poor Montana Paul, poor Montana. I'm just wondering, when is he ever going to get serious about winning a national championship? Because it better be quick with gaso coming to the SEC next year. We're talking about conference. Bama has no chance with Oklahoma and the SEC. Yeah, that is a problem. Oklahoma has dominated women's softball. Well, Paul, she's serious. Patrick Murphy is not serious. He's Bobby COX-2. And I know you defend him. He's your buddy. I need you to call him up and ask him when he's going to get serious because I mean, I know he won in 2012, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then. But yeah. Have you talked to Greg burn about this? No, I haven't. I haven't. Not yet, but you sent me his number. I'll give him a call. I'll touch it to you right now. I'll text you the private line so you can get right through. I'm sure he would love to hear from you. Good deal. Man, I know you're going to get a lot of calls about the Alabama auburn basketball game today over the last whatever. I'm just trying to spice it up a little softball action. I look forward to this season and hopefully the tie can do pretty well. Thank you very much. Ken is up next in Alabama. Hello. What's up, Paul? How are you doing? Ken, we are doing great. Thank you. Man, I'm calling from a little part of town called spring creek, Alabama. Yeah. I sure have. Okay, okay. Well, I was talking about I have hearing from Jerome. In a minute. We have heard from Jerome. It's more than a year now. Yeah, I mean, I thought you might have abandoned from there. No, no. Nobody's banned. Jerome called, I would say sometime last winner. Remember his wife called, and then he got on the phone, and then we gave him a hard time about Alabama losing to Georgia and don't think we ever heard from him again. Okay. Well, one more thing. What about old girl from Georgia? We haven't heard from Darrow in a while. Yeah, I feel that he'd be calling him, so George one, and that's just the championship. You would think so. Yeah. But one final question about the SEC. Okay. When they're going to put when they're going to put a stop on people coming in. And I let you go. Well, thanks, Karen. I mean, I think right now they're pretty comfortable with 16. It took, it takes a long time to digest programs. We went from 92 to what 12, 20 years between additions. And now we have another one coming in. You mentioned Daryl. I see him on the line right now. Daryl. Yeah. Good afternoon. What are you supposed to call the ones you love on Valentine's Day, right? You are, Daryl. We appreciate that. Paul. I just called, you know, I don't want the Bama fans out there worrying about being not having all these concerns about Todd monkey going to the NFL. There's nothing going to change. My how you had to know that as far as going to hire Bobo, right? And my Bobo has proven, it was at George on the Martin Rick. All the office did was rewrite the record books. And I think it's a great hire. I think he's keeping Bobo in and family. I think you know what, Kirby smarts they just one time. I said it to you. You said I was wrong. And then I heard Kirby's party the same words come out of Kirby smart mouth. Later on, he said, can you coach at his school that you graduated from? You tend to put just a little bit more into it. And I believe that. That's just common sense. You said I was wrong about that. Did Kirby's come out and said it. But if that is true, how do you explain Nick Saban with 7 national championships at schools? He did not go to. Well, come on, Paul, where do you graduate from? He graduated from Ken state. That's true. You know, you got a lot of comments in his got to get in somewhere along the line. I mean, you're not going to, no matter who goes to Kent State, you're not going to win a national college football, okay? I agree with you, but I just wanted to make sure we were clear. But that's a fair point. Hey, you might have commented the other day about Barry Switzer, then the very first was against Oklahoma, joining the SEC. I mean, I think that's I can totally understand that, Paul, that totally makes perfect sense. Then how the last time, I mean, when Georgia and Oklahoma played his order was down 17 and a half in robo, and we come back and cover smartly. They whooping on them, they have not been the same since. People can say whatever they want. They have not been the same since. So I can see my Paris wins or doesn't want Oklahoma coming today to see and having to play George every year. Now I want to get your comments on the what the supposedly the realignment is going to be. What are you going to put your thoughts on that? Well, Daryl, we got to run for a break because we're waiting to talk to a coach, but I will answer that question in a minute. There are a lot of thoughts out there, a lot of theories. We take a break, more to come. We'll talk to Nate oats coming up here in a few minutes. The head coach at the university of Alabama the number one team

"I am being joined by my fiance Ryan. We are talking all things Alabama road trip. And coaching, baseball, decker shedding his ass off. A leaky dishwasher at the hotel. Almost getting chased down by a coyote and much more. Martin's was a barbecue spot when you walk in the atmosphere kind of is like an old school barn type of vibe. You go in. You don't really have like a sit down waiter. You can order your old barbecue sausage. You have coleslaw, you have the Mac and cheese, you have the beans, you have the brisket, you have the ribs, you have the pulled pork, smells freaking heavenly in there. I'm a huge fan of barbecue, so I'll have Ryan talk about what it was like ordering his food. I'll have him describe what he ordered. And again, if you guys are ever in Alabama, I think Ryan mentioned that they might have Martin's and other states as well. I think Texas, I had it, I've had it in Nashville before. So that's where I first got introduced with Martins when I was playing in Nashville and happened to be just right near the hotels we were staying at. And my parents were in town, so it was like they said, we had done with a day game, so it was like, all right, let's go, everybody's been saying go to Martin's go to Martin. So we went that one night, so I remember in Nashville, we were standing in line probably for 25 minutes before we even got a chance to even go order. But the way Martin's works is like, you just essentially stand in line. They have menus there while you're standing in line. They have a giant menu that you can read if you don't want to look at one of the small ones. But then once you get up to the counter, you just order, and then you can go sit down and they'll bring it out to you, but Brittany said, there's no traditional waiters or waitresses either. But I think I remember I ordered the pulled pork, I ordered pulled pork and brisket combo, and it came with, I think, Mac and cheese and some baked beans as well. And I remember those baked beans had a kick to it. So we ended up having spicy foods a couple nights in a row, not intentionally. But I remember like the barbecue sauce that Martin's brought out was probably some of the best sauce that I remember having when it comes to pulled pork and brisket..

"Overall, how do you think this tournament went both as a coaching experience for you and also for the team? And for my boss boobs fanatics that are listening, whether it be a kid that's in high school or a parent that might be listening, do you suggest their kids getting involved in a tournament like this or a travel baseball if they want to pursue their potential career in a either college or be potentially going to pro? I just know my brother's team they got invited to this. So he just happened to be a key add a couple of players on his team that were very highly regarded draft into a draft pick so that's how they got initially invited it into this. So I would say it just happened to work out that that's just the talent that he has right now and it's recognized over the country so that's why they were invited down, but it also shows that how good his team really is, getting involved with some travel ball like as you get into high school, I think that's almost like the necessity going into being able to get a college scholarship or get on the radars of college schools. And universities like that way, like you're playing against some of the best talent in the country and they have multiple high profile tournaments throughout the summer in the fall. So that's where all the major schools will go see players as well, especially at a young, I got freshmen, sophomore age. That's where a lot of kids get noticed right away. But as a kid, I wouldn't recommend travel ball as much because you're still growing and I want I'd prefer kids just be a kid and play a different sports and just enjoy being a kid instead of having the pressure of all I got to keep working at 12 years old is like nobody's given scholarships out to 12 year olds. So I think still being a kid, but then when they get a little bit older right around the high school age, that's when's like, all right, you're matured a little bit more so you're ready to go play against that top talent. Again, it was our first time ever going to the state of Alabama. So aside from the baseball tournament, again, that's the main reason why we went there in the first place was for Ryan to help out his brother, but I want to switch on over because again, this was a lifestyle sports podcast. We're not going to just talk about the sports aspect. We spent a good chunk of time with decker every morning before we went to a game. We found this little hiking trail. It was actually a really nice hiking trail. It was beside a stream, and it was kind of in the Woods, but not really in the Woods because off to the right hand side, you could see that it was residential. A lot of people were walking, bike riding, jogging. So you kind of felt like it was pretty safe or it seemed to be pretty safe. Decker enjoyed swimming in the stream, but there was a lot of moving fast water for the most part and obviously we had no idea what the stream led to. So we would kind of like let his belly get dipped in the water while he was still on his leash..

"It's spring. I can't believe it's still off and on a little bit Chewy here in North Carolina. We get some warm days in North Carolina. I'm like, dude, can it just consistently be nice out? I feel like I'm back in New England. I can't win what is going on. But one of the big things that we just recently did was we headed off, packed up the car, tossed our puppy decor into the car with his pop up crate. He loves to road trip as you guys know, a 7 hour road trip. We left late in the day, we drove through Charlotte through Atlanta, Georgia, we ended up at the hotel late at night because we had stuff to do during the day. We set up deckers pop up crate at the hotel. We had a little kitchenette for breakfast because again, for us, we traveled so much. We enjoy going out to eat, which we will get into some of the places that we stopped at. But we were there for a high school baseball tournament, Ryan was one of the coaches alongside of his brother. So we didn't want to get up and go out to eat for breakfast every day, or for lunch. So we wanted a little place that had a kitchenette with also a working sink, which we'll get into a funny story about that after as well. And a refrigerator, that way we can go food shopping and stockpile the fridge. The way we're not having to go run out to go out to eat all the time. We were there for business, not pleasure on this trip. I'm gonna have Ryan give you guys an in depth description on why we went to Alabama and why this high school baseball tournament was so important for the team and what Ryan's experience was like coaching at it. So every year, perfect game post a few high school tournaments throughout the regular season and for those.

"I'm melissa harris perry and this is the takeaway more than one thousand union. Mine workers from the warrior met coal mine in tuscaloosa county. Alabama are entering the fifth month of a labor strike. The myers are members of the united mine workers of america union which has a deep history alabama and in those very same minds dating all the way back to eighteen. Ninety on wednesday mindworkers held a large rally in brookwood alabama thousands of you. Mwa allies came in from illinois indiana pennsylvania ohio kentucky and west virginia to show solidarity with the alabama minors what we lost five years ago. Gleaning from the company vacation. Tom by our health concerns and just some of the money that we lost. Also we're not we're we're we're fed up with all the scare tactics all this other doing. We're fighting for all workers across america. Not just for us here. At the marlins journalists. Kim kelly spoke to those folks and brookwood alabama and she joins me now. Welcome kim hey thank you so much for having me so talked me. Was the sentiment among the miners and family members at the rally today. There's a lot of good energy When the women. I spoke to share. She's part of the women's auxiliary. She was saying that you know. We have to kind of see the the community community support firsthand because we handle donations. We handle rosaries but a lot of folks on the picket lines. They're just out there. Twenty four seven kind of fighting the fight. They don't get to see the the nice part this solidarity part so that was really a big deal for them to see all these folks from across the country. Coming out to support lots of media. There are lots of union leaders. Were there in just a really beautiful that honestly so talk to me about the working conditions at the warrior met coal mine and we heard a little bit from some of the strikers there but what is it they're asking for so the conditions there. It's i mean you're never gonna find a great conditions were gonna call minus is very dirty difficult job but where you're mad. This is one of the deepest mines in north america. It's filled with methane gas which has caused explosions caused health issues for folks. The workers there. They're underground twelve hours a day six days a week sometimes seven in the contract which was implemented five years ago. When maury matt came into the minds they lost six dollars an hour off their pay lost vacation days. They lost over pause potty. Go back for a second room. They lost six dollars an hour off their pay. How did that happen. Well when we're matt came in. It was off the back of the bankruptcy from the former owners. And so there's a massive layoffs and when we're met commander like okay we'll hire you guys back but this is what we're going to offer you. You gotta help us get on our feet and then five years down. The line will wearing a better financial position. Though that will trickle down to you and of course it hasn't and now the average wage there's about twenty two dollars an hour to work in a coal mine twelve hours a day six days a week and and i'm sorry i had to you. What else did they lose that Fire get hired back. Sure the biggest thing. As braxton mentioned the quote you played earlier is the healthcare costs their healthcare costs skyrocketed and as realized you know coal miners. There's a lot of health conditions and medical issues and risks that those workers undertake so their healthcare is a big deal and now they're paying thousand four months they used to so. That's impacting the workers. As well as their families. The children's retirees. That's a huge deal. Okay are they being allowed to. I mean they've been on strike for a really long time at this point first of all are they getting paid six dollars an hour less wage during their strike. Oh no no no. The company isn't giving them anything but had there's a strike sign that the W has set up and so as long as a worker completes their picket line duty which is about think. Sixteen hours a week. They get at a check for seven hundred dollars every two weeks and that adds that's about fourteen hundred bucks a month which is very helpful but that is certainly not enough especially because the majority of these workers are parents in supporting family members as well. When i heard you say they. The company hasn't given them anything but a headache. Are they allowing them. At least in the context of the strike to to sort of strike in. Peace no ma'am. They have been terrible. Honestly i've been shocked. I've been covering this story for. Since very beginning and the facility in aggression of the company's displayed truly shocking. I know of at least five documented instances of comfy employees with their bosses or scabs contract contractors brought in of running their cars. Netflix trucks into people on the picket line. Multiple straggler had been sent to the hospital. What one of one of the strikers wise amy she was hit and she's still feeling it. you know. This people are being hurt and buckle. Police aren't doing anything and the union is fighting to get anyone to pay attention to help them like this. Is it's really scary. It's we're really looking at another harlan county down there. Okay when you say first of all. There are people striking peacefully in line getting hit by cars that you've been covering this now for months that i have to say i'm a little surprised that it certainly covered some but why hasn't it been covered much more widely in the news. Is this just about being pushed out by the headlines of covert and other things like that. I'm sure that's a factor. I have a mult- multiple theories about this. It's kind of been driving me nuts. Because i have been covering and i'm so invested in the story. I think perhaps the fact that the industry they work in cold fossil fuels general. It's a little harder to tell a nuance story there to drum up sympathy because it is such a complicated issue right and also you know. It's a rural area in alabama but live assumptions that are made about folks in those areas. There are a lot of folks who are more conservative Who were involved in this group. And i think most labor stores is kind of an implied Underline of progressivism right. And that's not necessarily the case here. Of course the miners aren't a monolith like everyone has a very diverse group. But i think it's been a little tougher to get sympathy for a bunch of striking coal miners in trump country. Then maybe it would be for another strike somewhere else. Different kind of people you know. It's an interesting point when you when you call it trump country i mean obviously alabama predates former president trump as doesn't fact union activity in alabama. A i think some people might even be surprised to discover that there is this kind of a strong union.

"Pretty good theme disarm i'm looking at michigan's recruiting rankings. Twenty seven twenty seven number two. They just kind of went. Two three with penn state every year behind ohio state. Twenty nineteen michigan was says. Twenty nineteen michigan had the best class in the big ten. Is that true. I don't know you're looking at maybe. National rank was that. When how can this be. I'm looking michigan number eight. Where did ohio state finish. They've finished fourteen. That must have had a small class icy ohio state. Ninety one eighty seven ninety one point. Eight seven was their average recruit. Michigan's was ninety point. Seven so michigan just had a bigger class and also a really good class so i guess how states guys had the higher average okay. They were competitive. They've had really strong classes. So i'll go michigan law. How state what did you just ask me. What are we calling this. What are we calling. It recruiting something recruiting wars. Used to head. We wanna go did four source cruden wars college pitch. You're telling me you told what what would we'll figure it out after as more people don't need to listen to this part this is yeah behind self. "Any other points. You'd like to for me to address. Georgia ranks about one hundred spots better than alabama according to those college ranking capital. One bowl weekly. That was good. That's fine thank you antonio no. Us news and world reports. Okay academics at one hundred spots better. Okay athens has been voted time and again one of the best college towns in america the meeting ages are wanting twenty eight which is about two years younger and tuscaloosa. So it's very much college. Town recruiting poet laureates air. Tie curbing signal callers. You know that. I've got a bit of a bit of history of state college. Pennsylvania athens is about as close to state colleges. Whatever found. it's a town. That very much feels run by the student body. True college town comedy. Part of a new tradition. That kirby smart is trying to build his building it very much in the image of nick sabin but he's doing so in a younger in a more modern way he's doing it on the other side of the same conference and if you gunnar simpson step foot on this campus you will still get hopefully your crack at alabama at least once a year in the sec title game and maybe more you'll still get your chance to beat the best to help define a new legacy a new chapter a new era of georgia bulldogs football and be the face of this program and go onto spire great things at the next level. That is my pitch. Who had who had the best game for georgia in the sec. Championship game this year. Who was it that you would point to like. You could be this type of player in the sec. Championship game from twenty twenty cal. Trask could area's tony. Who are we talking about here. I told you my pitch over done is say okay. I'm going on a high note i'm out. I thought you did a great job. Thank you. I mean you had the more difficult position you chose it. You chose to represent george. I gave you the choice. You georgia. I thought you did a very good job. I probably would have sold athens. More athens is a fantastic place. See here's here's my here's my issue now you can eat well. You can do all sorts of outdoor stuff. Here's my issue. You have people from high school that you know you immediately have a bunch of friends because you're from georgia. Obviously there's there's some element to this. He does governor simpson being from the atlanta. Burbs need someone to sell him on athens. I feel like for him. Athens sort of sells itself because clearly familiar with it. I'm guessing not as familiar with is the inner workings and the machinations of the football program. Because anybody can go to. Athens go to a game and walk around campus and experience. The dog walk in those sorts of things but right. Let's take him inside the spaceship as they've called it that landed and is now the indoor practice facility. Let's take them inside the facilities to see what it's actually liked. Be part of part of the football team. So i didn't sell it. I'm also frankly just not as strong on that topic as as you might be so i can sell the football. I can look into it. And i could see where things trending in that in that world but i was trying to play to my strengths. Here's a recruiter. no i get you know. i just think athens's fantastic and the campus is beautiful. There is i think a poultry sciences building on the university of into that both campuses have chick fillets i think. Georgia's alabama's but georgia's has chick chick-fil-a express. I don't know what that means. It looks like a standard chick-fil-a in the union. I mean let's go onto to everything. Everyone's got one flames all over the place now but it's important. It absolutely is important union. Great food in athens. You can have a great life in athens and look if you want to go home to laundry. You're you're right. you did. Hit the the distancing about an hour fifteen away from metro atlanta depending traffic can be quite terrible in atlanta. Though you never know but alabama's not you know it's not across the country. It's three hours. So it's it's a good selling point. It's not the best selling point. And i think you can add that. You know brock vanda. Griff georgia has recruited quarterback very well. So it's not like you need to step in right away. You'd be behind brock behind behind whoever so georgia has their own thing yet. Well look to. I'm trying to think. How else would i have sold georgia to great schools anyway. You shake great. Sec schools have we given any thought to what our next batch might be. They we got to the big ten. Do wanna do you wanna do is to obvious now. It's not that's not bad. I mean i. My assumption is michigan has recruited the last few years have their who to better than penn state. Along with penn state. I mean. I feel like more. They're both difficult. In terms of the position we choose. I think we should go defense on the next episode. I think it needs to if we're staying in the spirit of true recruiting rivalries within conference right the biggest rivalry in college football ohio state michigan. We'd be remiss if i did not pick. That one is is michigan. Ohio state's biggest. They're not probably not ohio. State's biggest national rival in terms of recruiting only right l. house as big as national rival is probably clemson. Joy obama clams. Yeah somewhere in there. They're competing for the top top top of the class. But if we in the big ten we keep it within the big ten Penn state has honestly been a little stronger in terms of recruiting. I think in recent years right so if we wanna do ohio state and we should and we wanna keep an conference and we should. It's either michigan penn state. I'll let you pick your.

"I'm gonna simpson. Do i wanna walk into a situation. Where the track record sure is that. We've had great coordinators here who have gone on to great things but also the track record. Is we have a new set of coordinators every frigging year. That doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. Let's talk a little bit about todd. Mahnken let's talk about todd akin. Did you go back and check. The p plus from twenty twenty to see what georgia's offense looked like relative to alabama's i know alabama's was rife with firepower. No question about that. Doric. -ly officiant historically efficient gunners simpson. His name is gonna for a reason. Dan kid likes to throw the ball. We set it at the top. Five star tunnel arm talent. Not a dual threat. Guy can move right. He moves around in the pocket. Char a kid like governor wants to air the ball out you know where alabama under mack jones ranked relative to georgia in terms of air yards per pass. The style of play have ads in georgia. Was georgia was tent. So when todd monkey came over by the way he came from the nfl part of what he was trying to do was build more of a vertically oriented passing game. This is on the heels of the jake frahm era where it was a lot of digging dunk stuff in georgia. Fans got fed up at that monkey came in the intention was to try and stretch the field vertically now. He did not have the ability to do that as much with a guy. Like a stetson bennett. It didn't work out. They have the the issue with. Jt daniels ne- not being clear until late in the season but once he was cleared things started to happen in a really positive way. We started to see more of that explosive offense that is what he is selling. That is what he is. Trying to build. Alabama did a lotta dink and dunk stuffed in a lot of think. Dunk stuff mack. Jones was very effective when he did throw down the field. No doubt but the air yards stat proves it out to me. Alabama as the ninetieth ranked team in fbs. This is not a team that stretched the field through the air. At least air yards as much as you would expect the a great receivers who ran after the catch for sure. But if you wanna come to a school young gunner that likes to air it out and give you the ability to throw the deep ball. Let's go todd malkin. Let's talk todd machen. You know how. Todd martin right now is out. There recruiting talent dan. While how's that other schools are talking about plans in team gear. I got this from an article by the way. I didn't have any knowledge. I got this from your. Si.

"Welcome back to these solid rebel. Boys girls my name is ty hildebrand joining me as always over there in beautiful chicago illinois. Dan rubenstein sir. How you doing. I'm very excited. I am shot out of a cannon. I took a shower for the first time in three days excited for this concept excited to welcome back video into the fold for however long. Because you're a handsome guy on my better days. I approach handsome. I think i'm told so. I'm excited to do this episode. Think we're gonna we're gonna throw some some haymakers. I i hope so i'm excited thrown some haymakers throwing some screwball. Some off speed stuff. Try to each other off balance. I can't see you wear wearing my standard fare gray shirt but i've got a red georgia hat on right now. Oh look at you. i can't see you. We're recording this two cards. I am not wearing a hat. I'm wearing my glasses. I have sort of a navy shirt with ping pong paddles. I guess you did beat me at ping pong. So i don't know i'm wearing my defeat because i'm that confident. I have a red georgia hat on which we will get to momentarily but before we do. Hello welcome don't forget to follow the sellable across all social media channels. We are of course on twitter and facebook. And we've been trying to do more instagram. But we need people to follow us dan. They got us foul if they want to get the content. They got a follow us. So it's solvable on instagram. We have not branched out into other social platforms at least not as of yet which brings me to our next topic of interest. We are looking for a social media intern. Yes we absolutely are somebody with that sort of expertise and i end sensibility. Submissions at solvable. Dot com submissions at several dot com. We've had some folks writing already. We are looking to add. Another member to our team could help social media looking for folks who have helped do this for other websites for other businesses for other entities. Send us an email and we'll fill you in on how you might be able to help the team. So solvable dot com. Can't wait to see where roles in do now dan. What is the concept for this here. Show that we've we've tossed around a number of names like recruiting wars. Or what was it. College pick something which college pitch so. This is an exercise. We're going to do for. I think we're into a few of these and we're going to start in the sec whereby wherein unh select a school and we were in charge of pitching said school if we were the head coach or the director of recruiting. Something like that. If we're craft to pitch to a top flight recruit and we're going to be specific on this episode about which position we will each episode. How would we craft that pitch. And so today. We're doing alabama who i'm representing and you're representing georgia to schools. Who have put together. Absolute monster classes these past few years. You're talking about a lot of instances one a one b nationally that georgia has put together a recruiting behemoth and of course alabama continues to do so and i in order to determine a winner. I i don't think it wouldn't be fair for either one of us to do so. I just think anybody listening should weigh in on who does a better and more thorough and more convincing job pitching rather than where you know in this case. A five star quarterback should go right so it's not a matter of like you should definitely go to georgia because of this reason that we didn't mention or something like that or just your own opinion. It's who does a better job behind the mic. Today you or me. Convincing the universe that they attend their represented skunk so let. Let's let me pause positive we can go negative. You can think about your time playing the nc double a video game dynasty series and all those things but Yeah it's just determining who if we were to sell alabama and georgia if we were to sell oklahoma state. Tcu oregon whatever. How would we do so okay. So does this what is the forget. Let's let's establish the rules of engagement. Here sharp does this work. Like a debate or one of us goes i. Are we interjecting. How how are we going to do this. I think each of us should have a chance to make a case without being interrupted. And then whether or not we stay positive ever go negative negative meaning obviously denigrating the other school putting down the other school. And why a five star quarterback shouldn't go to that school. I think the floor should be each of ours alone at the top and then we should be allowed to sort of cross examine. I suppose some of the points that we make and then just go back and forth from their fair new should be yelling at each other and talking over each other unless it serves a purpose. Which probably doesn't. But i think we should each have the floor in order like okay. Here's why it actually make sense to go to georgia. If you're a five star quarterback from metro atlanta or here's by necessarily acting as official agents of the university. We're acting as most third party. Recruiter has yeah yeah. We don't have an affiliation to either georgia or alabama beyond. We've been to. You've been to georgia. I've been to both and we find both places to be alluring. i drove through tuscaloosa alabama. jama's the one time. I was in tuscaloosa. So i consider myself a local. Obviously i would just say at the top here kind of in the spirit of competition because in the heat of battle. We don't know where this is going to go. I would ask that. No one hold against me. Anything i say against the great state of alabama nor anything you say against the great state of georgia and none of none of what we are saying is necessarily how we feel personally or professionally. Just how we would pitch if we were them if we were them. So if you're an alabama fan anti says something that rankles you that sticks in your craw don't that tie things that necessarily he might he might but this is how he's positioning georgia to a recruit method acting as what we're doing method acting and you know what at certain points. We could ask each other way to actually believe that. Do you actually like we. Can we can do that. We can break character. We can break the fourth wall. That's all what is what is our recruits name today. What is his deal. Who who are we trying to bring to either alabama or georgia right. So we're going to keep this current so we're going to say this is a class of twenty twenty two even though. This is sort of after the cuban domino's have largely fallen in the class of twenty twenty two because we want to keep current as for coaches on staff right now. Recent results in recent situations incurred situation. So we're going to go with the name gunnar simpson which is a combination of both governor. Stockton a blue chip quarterback who committed to georgia anti-simpson a blue chip quarterback who committed to alabama. So bring those two guys together. I think thai simpson's from tennessee. Somewhere and gunnar stockton is northeast georgia. Not in the greater atlanta area. Okay governor classic southern name gunners simpson is going to be our recruit. What do we know about him. Governor simpson has a big arm. I would almost say a so. A combo of justin fields trevor lawrence. Everything you out of a quarterback physically mentally arm strength leadership like if you were to craft a modern quarterback from the south you are basically combining those two guys right so it's every school is knocking on his door. He's getting a one hundred fifty letters. A day sent to his home and a terrific athlete. Not necessarily high end speed not necessarily a pure dual threat but he can move and he is being compared to the best prospect since andrew luck because a box. You need to be checked. You're a top flight quarterback that could be a fantasy thing by the way best. I prospect since andrew luck okay correct yeah gunnar simpson five star great thrower. He can move not dual threat not speed but he can booth correct. Yeah you can move. I'd say six three and a half two. Oh five okay. That's good size. Good size you also have the sound. I don't know where this fits.
