"Willie Mays's number was just recently retired by the mets, right? And I think the most amusing one is Steve Garvey's number is retired by the Padres. So Steve Garvey's number, not retired by the Dodgers, but retired by the Padres, obviously did not nearly as associated with the Padres. He did hit a big playoff home run for the Padres, but you don't think of the Padres when you think of Steve Garvey, so that is amusing that his number is retired for one and not for the other. And then, yeah, you know, sometimes there's like a tragedy associated with this Jim, I'm bricked. His number is retired by the Astros and Jim bricks. He was a player who actually died pretty young while he was playing for Houston. He had melanoma and he was playing through it for a while and then it got worse and he passed away, but he played for the pirates and then for Houston they were called the colt 45s at the time and he died in his early 30s after having played for Houston and so they retired his number. So you have that sort of genre too. One of the original Astros, Jim ombre. Yeah, well, that's another reason to do it, I guess, and then Bruce Sutter number retired for the Cardinals. That kind of players who didn't have a long time with a certain organization, but made an impact while they were there. I mean, you know, rally fingers, number retired by Milwaukee, rod Carew, by the angels, fingers as well with Oakland, Roy Halladay, with the Phillies, et cetera. So you can go down that list. But I'll just give everyone just a go quickly team by team and give you your most deserving player whose number should be retired to his, who's no longer active, but should have their number retired. Again, just going by the stats here, and of course there is much more to this than stats. So for Arizona, it would be Brandon Webb, slightly edges out, Kurt Schilling, who might be a problematic number of retiree. Yeah. Then for Atlanta already mentioned, it's Andrew Jones kid Nichols also, if you want to count kid Nicholson, Brian McCann and Freddie Freeman, who is no longer active with the braves at least. After Atlanta, we have Baltimore, Mike Messina's number, not retired by the Orioles. Did you know that? That is surprising. That's weird. It is wild. He went into the hall with no team insignia on his cap because he just didn't want to choose between Yankees and Orioles. So I don't know if this is like miffed that he departed for an AL east rival or what, but Mike massina, come on. Gotta get your number retired by the Orioles here. The only problem is that athlete richman is now wearing mic machine as old number, so they may have missed their chance. Red Sox already mentioned it's Roger Clemens and then trick speaker and Cy Young and Dwight Evans would be a good one, Dustin pedroia, high on the list two, cubs, Sammy Sosa, as noted, and then Stan hack Rick rusell White Sox. Well, Eddie Collins, as mentioned, Ed Walsh, red Faber, Eddie cicotte, one of the black Sox, probably not going to get his number retired. Robin Ventura would be a more modern choice. Cincinnati bid mcphee and more recently George foster. Cleveland, again, I mentioned nap Lajoie tris speaker Cy Young, sudden Sam McDowell would be the more modern choice and then stand up and Kenny Lofton, a Hall of Fame snub as well. The rocky is so for the rockies, Troy tulowitzki would be at the top of the list. Carlos Gonzalez, Trevor story, Matt Holliday. The tigers, you have some older ones here, so we have Harry Hyman, Mickey woolwich, Sam Crawford, norm cash, Tommy bridges, dizzy trout, Astros, Lance berkman, and Roy owes Walt Cesar cedeno up there too. Interesting to see Lance there because there was a whole bit when he signed with the Cardinals that the Cardinals put out this ad to promote it, where he's trying to pick a new number because he came in wearing number 17 from the Astros and the Yankees. And he runs through like 6 or 7 numbers that he thinks up and I think it's Chris Carpenter just keeps shooting down his ideas and no that's retired. That's retired. Royals, Kevin, Brett saberhagen, Amos Otis, Mark Cooper, who is an angel's broadcaster these days. And speaking of the angels, they're next, Bobby gritch. Not in the Hall of Fame either. Tim salmon number not retired, they must be one of the Hall of Famer bust teams because otherwise I don't see how you could not have those guys retired. Dodgers, we mentioned already, marwan's, so the morrowind's Giancarlo Stanton is the all time franchise leader. I guess you can't retire chuck host it and it's number with the Marlins while he is still plagued for the Yankees, probably. But after him, it would be handling Ramirez, Luis Castillo, Dan ugla, we have a Dan algo day retire his number. Clayton Kershaw and Albert Pujols and also Giancarlo Stanton. Oh, and Mike Trout, Mike Trout would be the active leader. I think it's like Pujols and trout it's like Walter Johnson and then trout, I think, would be like the most deserving, just going by the stats so that shows you just how accomplished trout already is. The twins, so we mentioned Walter Johnson and then you have camilo pascual would be next, followed by couscous and same race Joe cronin. After the twins, we have the mets, Dwight Gooden, is at the top of the mets list and really, come on. How can you not have your I guess I get two at the top three Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry. So, okay, they've had their off the field issues. One can say, and maybe that's why their numbers are not retired, but in terms of significance to that franchise, come on. David Wright is second on that list. I would imagine that that will be happening sometime even if he doesn't get a ton of hall support after that. It's Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran. Yankees. So who's the most deserving Yankee? Who's not had his number retired even though so many have been a rod. Oh, sure. So there's that. After a rod, it's red ruffing, Tony lizer, Willie Randolph, Willie Randolph really should have his number retired. I mean, come on. You could argue he's a Hall of Fame snub. So Willie Randolph, if Paul O'Neill's number is retired, Willie Randolph's number should be retired really too. Then you have Charlie Keller, Craig nettles, Joe Gordon, Earl coombs, Roy white, another unsung player. Oakland leader, we mentioned Jimmy Fox city Collins lefty grove, Al Simmons, Eddie plank, some old timers, but the late Sal bando, who recently retired his close to the top of the list too. He'd be a good deserving candidate. The Phillies, we have Ed delahanty, Chase Utley, I mentioned sherry McGee, Bobby Abreu, and Jimmy Rollins. Some good choices there. Pirates, Archie van, we mentioned Barry Bonds, number not retired by the pirates. Bob friend max Carey Andrew McCutchen Andrew McCutchen is using his number still, but after he's done using it, maybe that could be retired. Padres, Jake PV. So I was making fun of the Padres for having a low average and for retiring Steve Garvey's number, but not that many great choices, I guess, Jake PV, Andy Benes Brian Giles chase headley, Adrian Gonzalez, are the leading Padres candidates. The Mariners? Felix? That's happening this summer. That's happening. And then after Felix ichiro, who that'll happen. Don't worry. He'll be in the hall soon enough. And why I feel defensive on behalf of the Mariners is going to be fine. Randy Johnson, a rod again, and then Kyle Seeger. Which they should speaking of guys who mean a lot to a franchise in who they should put in the Mariners Hall of Fame, even if he's not a Hall of Famer. You know, Kyle Seager. I should do that. Jamie Moyer after that. I thought Jamie moyers and maybe his number. But not number one. I think that's right. Okay. Okay. Giants, Buster Posey. We mentioned roger Connor, George Davis. The Cardinals, Jim Edmonds, would be the leader. Ducky medwick, Joe medwick, Johnny mize, rate Langford, Frankie frisch, and the rays Evan Longoria. That'll happen. He's the franchise leader for the race. I imagine that will happen when he's done by Carl Crawford, benzo brist, Melvin Upton junior.

Kicking off live shows week today with a bunch of episodes recorded in northeastern Tennessee in the United States and you can hear some fun crowd interactions and some background noise, just kind of switch up what you normally hear on this show, which is just me talking into a microphone. At my house, like you're listening to right now. We're gonna jump into clowns and movies trivia in just a second. But I wanted to give you a geek out challenge card to warm you up for the game. Name two films in which Robert De Niro appears. Name four TV shows with numbers in the title. Name four book titles in which vampires appear. Name two Falk singers. And for miscellaneous name two comedy albums. There you have it, the geek out challenge warm up card. Also wanted to plug a new special fundraising thing I'm doing all this fall and winter season. My daughter's school is in need of a book vending machine. This is a cool way to reward kids for good deeds and engage reading, so they have a vending machine somewhere central in the school and the kids get little tokens for doing good things or maybe having an awesome grade on a test or something. And they get to spend those tokens on brand new books that are in the vending machine. So it's a very cool thing. I think it's unique and fun and I want to try and raise the funds to buy one of these machines for my daughter's school. So I'm doing this fundraiser for $10. I'll send you a completely custom trivia night with 5 PowerPoint rounds on any topics of your choosing a scoreboard excel sheet to keep score and structures on how to play and answer sheets to print out at home so you can have your own trivia night at home as many times as you want for ten bucks. So hit me up and email Ryan buds Gmail dot com if you want to help contribute to this little campaign $10, get you a custom trivia night and all that money goes towards my daughter's schools, book vending machine. Hopefully unveiling in spring 2023. Thanks for your support. And please let anybody know who needs a trivia night to hit me up as well. "You know? Term that should exist and should be known. It's not the most meaningless thing that I've ever heard discussed or attracted. That's the bar upsetting here. So I think that's fine. So Ryan researched the combined cycle if that's what we're going to call it. Calling it the relay cycle. I just established this. Sorry. So it's actually quite rare. I don't know whether that makes it more interesting or not. Yeah, does that make it cooler? I don't know. It makes sense that it would be rare because sure. Typically, why would you substitute someone who is in the midst of cycling? If they've gotten some components of the cycle, they've gotten hits. Why would you remove them in many cases? So it's only happened 21 times or I guess now perhaps 22 times. So it's quite rare and it has happened a few times with three players involved. The three player relay cycle slash combined cycle. So 21 times, but only a few, I think, only a couple, maybe we're three player ones. Most of them were two. And there's no way to know exactly without going case by case, which you're all welcome to do. I will put the spreadsheet linked to it on the show page, but probably mostly injury replacements as this one was. I would think so. But different types of replacements. So 8 defensive replacements, 5 pinch runners, 9 pinch hitters, and two double switches. And any of those could have been injury related, but they weren't necessarily somewhere also blowouts. So maybe you were just resting someone like most of the players on here, not necessarily name brands, but it looks like maybe the last game of the 2003 season Barry Bonds was replaced. He started the relay cycle and then Pedro feliz came in a double switch and bonds was in left and feliz came in in the double switch and was playing third base in the same lineup spot and he finished off the cycle that bans had started. I assume without looking that that was probably just resting buns on the west day of the season because some of these lopsided scores, et cetera. So all kinds of reasons why the relay cycle could happen, but it hasn't happened all that often. So I think this was I believe this was the first relay cycle since May 17th, 2016, the Tampa Bay raised in it. So Brad Miller started at shortstop and he got the single and the double and the triple, actually. And then Taylor mutter came in as a pinch hitter at the shortstop in the same lamp spot and he hit the Homer to finish it off Taylor modder, his father was a matter of his mother was a modder. That's a Seinfeld joke. Anyway, it hadn't happened since 2016 and now it has happened again. So now we know this is the thing we're making it a thing. The combined slash relay cycle. Even more meaningless than the cycle or the combined no hitter, but we're plumbing new depths of obscure accomplishments. Maybe the way to think about it is that we were able to come up with a name we liked. And so it's cool for that reason. Right. Okay. I mean, I want to be clear. I don't find this to be actually meaningful. I just find it to be kind of a nice thing, you know? Again, it still wouldn't be actually meaningful, but within the range of non meaningful things, I think that if you come in and you contribute a non single to the relay cycle, it is a more meaningful not meaningful thing than if the cherry on top of the relay because that's relays work is a single, because anybody can hit a single, you know, and anybody can hit a double. Aaron judge has been doing that for the last week. He just spent hitting doubles. Like anybody can do that. But no, they can't. That's harder. So hit one of the harder things. And then it's cool. If what you do is you come in and you hit a little single, it's like, well, we're glad you're here, and you did it, but I don't know if that means. Yeah. If this mattered at all, which obviously does not, then yes, you would have to apportion the credit to the cyclers. What if the second leg of the relay cycle is the guy who hits the triple? Because famously, that's the hardest. Exactly. Yeah, so what if the other guy gets three hits, but the one guy gets the one hit that's the hardest to get. It's the hardest to get, right? Then is it meaningful? No. But like it's more meaningful. It's closer to meaningful, I think. Maybe. Okay. All right, couple more, this will be probably a quick one. This is from Mike Patreon supporter who said he saw a tweet and it's a tweet from the account cards magazine, which was sent on September 11th, and it said, before today, there were only 6 states between April 1st and September 30th that Albert Pujols had not homered. One of those was September 11th, now there are only 5. He hit a Homer that day. So Mike our Patreon supporter said, is that a record that Albert Pujols had homered on all but 5 dates between April 1st and September 30th has any player homered on all the dates in that range. And one would imagine there's a short list of suspects and how many days is that? It's a lot of days and not a lot of people have homered more often than Albert Pujols famously. So Ryan reports, Barry Bonds homered on every day of that span, except August 5th and September 30th. So 181 out of 183 and a record, go figure the guy who hit the most homers. Also hit the most. Dates during this band. Yeah. So Pujols is at one 78 over one 83, which is second of all time. Mark McGuire and David Ortiz are at one 77. Ken griffey junior Willie Mays Rafael palmeiro, a rod, Gary Sheffield and Jim tomi or all at one 76 Sammy Sosa is alone at one 75. No one has one 74 Adrian Beltre, Carlos Delgado, many Ramirez and Mike Schmidt are at one 73. Henry Aaron and Miguel Cabrera are at one 72, none of Miguel Cabrera is four homers this year. We're on new dates or four as of a week ago, at least interesting. Jeff Bagwell, Vlad senior and Harmon killebrew are at one 71 and Frank Thomas is at one 70. All those guys hit a lot of homers unsurprisingly. Ryan also says Lou Gehrig homered on June 8th, 18 times. That is a record. Rogers hornsby, June 24th, chuck Klein, may 30th and Babe Ruth twice June 23rd in July 9th are tied for second with 16 that says the most homers on a given date, then it is a three way tie with 15 between Babe Ruth June 12th Babe Ruth, July 2nd and Babe Ruth. August 17th. 14 is a many way tie between 5 Jimmy foxes, a Lou Gehrig three melodies, 5 babe Bruce, and an Al Simmons. Okay, that's kind of a trivia quirky one. Yeah, I like that I keep going, huh, like it means something. It just means they hit a lot of home runs. It mostly means that. Well, yes. The support. I appreciate the yes ending. The emphatic punctuations there. You're helping you're helping me sell it here. It's going over well. All right. And last one, this one comes from Chris and the email subject line is the game just got away from him. So this was sent on Monday, September 19th, Chris writes during yesterday's aster's a's radio broadcast. I noticed a few references to the game getting away from a starting pitcher, Ken Walter chuck.

"Thin panels who need some split panels that seem like one picture, but they split them into the 5 panels. Yeah. That's an interesting way to do it. But you see that a lot in mcfarlane stuff. So all right, well, let's just keep going. Let's call this the Todd mcfarlane episode. Because I've got spawn, obviously a big Todd mcfarlane. Image speaking of when he left marvel in started image with the rest of the guys, life field and Jim Lee and all sorts of other people. So we had spawn that came out in 1992. And May of 92, it was the second title that came out for image young blend number one was the first, but it came out in May of 92 for a dollar 95. I remember that was a big deal. Like, what? That's so expensive. Marvel Comics for a buck and a quarter and 95. But this was hyped like no other. I couldn't believe how many times I saw it in catalogs and posters and at stores and things like that where it was just being promoted like crazy. It was totally different. Again, this is the image behemoth that was coming. The image juggernaut, whatever you want to say. This is totally independent. There's no comics code of authority, anything like that. This is the real deal. So Ben, I bought this one for a dollar 95. And my current value on this one is $30. So not bad. That's yeah. I was going to say like $3, so 30 bucks. I think that's better than all of my investments in 90s comics so far, so. Yeah. So it's done okay. But they sold 1.7 million copies of spawn number one, making it the best independent comic sale to date. Now that was back in 2019. So I don't know if something has beat it since then, but 1.7 million copies. So it took off like gangbusters. But the story is about, oh, here, we got Al Simmons. It must be another owl. But he was in the special forces Al. I don't know that you were in the special forces, were you? I was not. No. So he was in the special forces, he gets killed, murdered by one of his teammates, chapel, and so he comes back from the dead to avenge his murder and to see his wife, who is obviously in love with and but he had to make a deal with the devil. So the devil sends him back as a hell spawn and gives him superpowers and but the key is when his powers run out, then he has to go back to hell. And so he has to minimize using his powers when he can and can't and has to figure that out. So that's how the story gets started. The retcon a lot of this because they were doing a lot of crossovers with other artists like rob liefeld and Eric Larson and others and obviously there was a split between liefeld and macfarlane. And so they retconned some of this so that the tie in with mcfarlane spawn and rob liefeld's properties didn't happen. So they kind of retconned that out later. So let me show you some first concepts. So Todd mcfarlane came up with spawn when he was a kid back in 77, I believe is when this drawing that he did when he was a teenager. Yeah, 1977. So that's teenage macfarlane drawing spawn. As a kid. So I thought that was pretty interesting. Yeah, yeah. Lender is deadly..

That's the guy from the second issue that he took on his likeness for whatever reason and obviously wasn't a plant in the plans originally and that guy becomes the on. What a complicated mess. I am here for someone one hundred and fifty issues into a run. Saying let's call back this you to me. Actually that actually rolls. Yeah but i don't know about the specifics. And then this guy becomes spawn for a long time then. Alzheimer's comes back and this guy goes back news. Coma and al simmons is now spun again and back and forth and all that sort of stuff because the spun comma keeps coming to its natural conclusion and mcfarland keeps going. Because he's like he's got. He's got the joe. Joe dimaggio streak. Cal ripken st. Maybe he's a better example feed of endurance except he definitely missed a lot of issues and okay so the negative plaza counter is on. It starts at nine colon nine colon nine nine nine appears like some sort of doomsday clock. Right is it seems to be counting down or something is counting down the amount of necker plaza. Him he has within him. He has a finite amount of energy that he can use his power with and when he reaches zero he will die and he'll be sucked back into bulges realm where he will be enslaved as part of his army and so every hell bond gets sent to earth were they are tormented by living a new life and remembering their old life using their netra him getting turned into a soldier in his army. And that i don't why doesn't he just make them a soldier when they're already in hell i don't know there's no point but when the neck replacement counter runs out your health bond becomes enslaved.

"Oh then it says forever at the very the foul giant panel in the and the issue is forever spun is owned by todd mcfarlane services owned by dave sims and it's them being like we are more powerful because we own our creation and this is why you know mcfarland created image and it's like it's crazy comic but it just tells you everything that was going on with them at that exact moment and when you combine that with just looking into image. It's a really fascinating read and spot itself just an interesting glimpse into how comics were changing in the nineties. Because it's really the flashpoint point there. And then i it's so interesting to to see the legacy of mcfarland still going both in his own spawn universe and just image and creator owned comics becoming a really important thing and you know just like the other month we got sub stack coming in Giving craters you know their own new avenue for a crater on comics and image you know forging that path is really really vital to the history of the comic book industry. I think that we would be anywhere where we are now without image comics and spawn being as popular as it was helped solidify image comics. 'cause it's all it's all the way more than than all those other foundational comics. Oh yeah it did. It didn't one of my favorite comics. What if what if all raised these days is what if image the image founders hadn't been able to get like brick everything through and get all seven of them onboard because if you watch the documentary listening views it's like knows kinda touching go like some some guys might have waffled. You know what they were. They got cold feet right and it didn't happen because entity we'd have this weird universe of like jim leon x. Men from ninety three to ninety five and you know like just a totally different landscape comics But obviously i think in the grand scheme of things for career rights and and for what image has been able to produce especially in the the modern era tens right amazing amazing comics. I have a question for you. Spun related the counter that the cow town mortgage. What is that happening there. It's it's very clear it's made very clear that okay. Maybe not the counter is sponsored. Necropolis encounter now. Spawn is made out of his his his now under body. Which isn't his original body. Because al simmons original body is still buried is made out of metro plaza. Which is this also helps. Oh black man. And then he's this bodies white as like. Oh my idea of a prank mom and maybe maybe a step in at this point. Oh that okay. Let's go back to the commended. We talk about whites. White simmons second. He uses power to try and turn himself back into a normal human form. Early things like issue to or something or three and he turns into a white guy even though he's black l. simmons which is cool. There's this leading. Black character spawned movie one of the first black lead superhero films after like blank man and meteor. Man i think which aren't original which are original creations but and that came up before blade two but he tries to turn back into al simmons using his power and you can only turned himself into this blonde white guy and there's no explanation..

"Yeah i one thing more which is interesting because this is one of the only issues. That doesn't star al simmons's spawn all focused on billy kincaid. Whose child murderer in the early issues. Who by the way comes back as a ghost and is a factor up through the first hundred issues. I assume that was the last. We've seen of him dies in. The universe is eight. Rest the only way anyone ever leaves the spawn universe is if there's some sort of legal issue with them and then they're gone. Yeah we'll get to that. In a second and then Gaiman does medieval spawn and kogyo stroh and angela who is the spawn hunter and totally is doing that. Like ooh like mythology in superhero. Tom and all that sort of stuff. And we've lettering in cursive on scrolls this is. This is very fancy stuff right now. Are you saying the game like shakespeare. That's never thought about that before. You know it's something that i i've been meaning ryden essay about it into really put that on paper and get that out in the world but i have to change congress curtis and and then miller is just doing this like hard boiled brain. Dead gang war in the alleys. Which is i think the least of the those issues sims is doing this really meta story. That really is all about why todd mcfarlane made image and then Morrison is doing this trilogy about the anti spawn and he creates this antithesis in heaven to spawn and show And they're they're work on. That is that's like what sixteen seventeen eighteen uh-huh because it's the first issues I think with gregg bulow coming in Or duties as well yeah and it The morrison stuff is is really fascinating because they come in for three issues whereas everyone else just kind of comes in for a one and done thing ended also feels the most like i thought morrison stuff felt the most like they were emulating and and almost fitting in to the spawn universe. In a way that the other creators you know they. They made an effort but they still felt fairly distinctly like themselves Whereas morrison i wouldn't be like. Oh that's that's such a morrison idea like the anti spawn in kind of coming from this angel. Satellite station is definitely something that Unique in actually delivers like okay. Here's a new idea at least But otherwise it's not especially unique and same with group art where it's like he steps in. And it's just like if. I didn't know there was a creative change. I don't know that would caught that. It was like not topic which is probably the compliment that everybody could have paid them at that time and i've seen from a lot of spawn fans of which there are a gazillion that polo seen by many as like the definitive spot artist. Because he does it for the longest period of time from that point four. Oh yeah. I think he. He definitely draws more spun. Then mcfarland for does 'cause mcfarland is like mostly through issue. Twenty five who it comes in earlier in that and then after twenty five. Pretty spotty in issue fifty. He doesn't draw another full issue..

"He's got wolverines memory loss and he's punisher because he kills people right like that's that's exactly what spawn is It's funny reading there. They have in these origin collections. They have quotes from mcfarland and interviews. He's done i think. With like mark miller some miller world and some of the quotes are like you know. So i just i took things so far like i just. I took things like batman killed people. And it's like dude that's literally punisher like that's been that's been happening like seventies but it so it's not revolutionaries he thinks but in those first six issues mcfarland again. Has this incredible visual aesthetic. It's a world it's a comic book. You undeniable undeniably. Want to flip through and sort of see the beats and see the designs in and see the layouts But he keeps asking. You know because al simmons has lost his memory and has resurrected. Is this house bonn. He keeps asking questions about what is going on. What am i missing an and in doing so. He also sort of suggests that the author doesn't know himself like there's never a sense that mcfarlane has a grasp on where this is going in the big world beyond the question. Simmons is asking. It's more just like mystery without direction. And it's not until we get to alan more coming in in the eighth issue where he's like. Hey like what have i. What have i just casually out all of the circles of hell for you. How about that And then you'll gaming comes in something similar in terms of just like. Hey here's a here's a few cool ideas It's not until that the spawned mythos made any sense to me. Because i was reading it as being like what i don't aside from the coolest static like if you just read those first six issues and you can come away from that and tell me enough about spa on in the mail bolgia and and circles a hell where the heck violators like. If i don't think any of that there And like credit. I suppose words do is mcfarland was such a force to be reckon with that. He had essentially an infinite canvas at least the first twenty twenty five injuries because these things sold unbelievably well right so the audience was there to be like. Yeah we'll wait with you Which is which is kind of fascinating. But let's so the first arc. I think we both agree is like nothing happens. And there's There's this clown guy who shows up the violator Revealed to be a demon. They're sort of a sense of like ok. Spawn sold his soul to save his wife. And now he's got to fight some demons or something but it's it's really kinda hollow and then we get to the second arc and the second arc is so fascinating to me both in terms of the content but probably more in terms of like the strategy and just where it lands in comics history. Where you have todd mcfarlane at the peak of his powers at the peak of image comics before the downfall of all of this before stepping in and saying i. I'm just gonna get all the writers that i clearly love envy right..

Yeah just in case you don't know the story of of sponsor was once a once a man a mere mortal is but a bad as memorial by the name of al simmons l. simmons was Coal heart cold blooded but also the best mercenaries out there and all you do call them up to do a job because he said you know what. I'm professional no matter who is no matter what happens no matter. What the stakes. Somebody called me for a job. I get it done. Except that kind of attitude cost him his soul he was sent straight to hell. It took him hale to realize bullshit. Well i just fucked my life but the devil said man. You will so good at your job. That i want you to lima army for when we take over the world. And how are we going to do that. Well the devil say man. You know what. I went over to the white house and i just made just made an agreement with the one of the us agents over there and say you know what take viruses spread all around. When you kill everybody. i'll show up. How does pose solve anything. I don't know i. I don't understand i don't get it i don hades. Nobody loves spa for the story. I gotta say. I felt confused reading book. I feel confused watches movie and you just explain it as simply as possible and i still like but now okay never mind double the double went over to the us government and made a contract with a weapons. Deal over this say. Hey i want you to want you to take this viruses spreading around the world because when you kill everybody can come in and do some shit. I don't know what that was supposed to accomplish. I spent all day. Try to davinci code shift to figure out what's going on. I still don't know what's happening. But as i say not me. Let me read this. And i couldn't get my playing going until this one guy died. Yes out of all the bad mother bugs in the world. Why did this one. Due to be the guy i don't know why as a clown sound like john leguizamo here. I don't know. I don't wiser homeless man following this dude around. You're saying the kids. Maybe kids move. No no well. there's two versions and that's one of the problems with that but we're getting that in a little bit. Now i'm gonna tell you something. I i do have some very good things to say about this. Go one is that now. This is nineteen ninety seven and if my history is correct this predates blade by year here and so spun was considered to be if not the first one of the first big superhero movies with that kind of budget behind it with a blackmail lead because as we know in hollywood. Don't get that kind of money into negroes up already. No no no. I was reading some about it i it was meteor man and then blank man then spahn and then there was something bright between spawn and blade. I forgot what it was but you know to. My budget wise was yeah. Like it's like for this kind of this. This kind of grandeur right here. The other thing is that. I'm a huge fan of the soundtrack because it was cooled that this was a superhero. That was black. He was the main leading the movie. And the soundtrack right here. It doesn't it doesn't. It's not a hip hop soundtrack. It's not an rb soundtrack. The concept behind it was pretty cool. It's like it's really. It really is a concept album for a soundtrack. What they did was is that they took like all these new metal bands. In electronic bands and rockers out there alternative rockers. And they team them up with deejays and had them collaborate on songs that went with the movie is s as fuck but back in the day. These were all the big hitters and it is. It is a cool soundtrack man. I pulled it out today and listen to it back. So i love the soundtrack soundtrack is very popular. I think the soundtrack is actually more praise in the movie. It is much much more. And i stand behind it. You can go to my garage and have a box of cds. A lot of them have like a lot of nostalgia for me. A lot of good memories on one. Let go and the spot. Soundtrack is one of those. I'm like keeping that for awhile. Man i don't want to give that up even though listen to streaming today but that's where we kind of cut short on that.

Don't forget to rate follow in review us. It is completely free. Don't forget to lebron view if you can follow us on social media all that fun stuff and with that being said let's get into it. It's euros thirty. Two career leadoff. Home runs ranks ninth all time nevertheless in nine. Ichiro told the new york times. Chicks dig home runs. Aren't the ones who appealed to me. I think there's a sexiness in enfield heads because they require technique would rather impress chicks with my technique than with my brute strength then every now and then just show off that i can do that too. "So i think the strangest inclusion because he has the lowest career war other than moberg is bill williams gams so Bill watkins no relation to tom skins from succession. It is spelled slightly differently but he played in the majors from nineteen fourteen to nineteen twenty six and he asked for war in his career. And you wonder. Why is bill ones games on this list so as looking at his baseball reference bullpen page. And it says bill williams games known as wannabe because his name was too long to fit into box scores of picture. He did not like the abbreviated form of his name. It's too bad bill. He is known primarily for turning an unassisted. Triple play in the fifth inning of game. Five of the nineteen twenty world series. All right and i guess that's some claim to fame is better known in nineteen seventy-two than it is now played thirteen years in the majors. Eight years in the minors yeltsin managed a couple years in the minors twice. Led the american league in sacrifice hits and once in games played wamba as of two thousand. Six is the only player in major league history with a last name that starts with wom. There's there's a reason anticipating the frame decision. Yeah so anyway. Nothing there gives yet clear idea for why you would pick the ones gins necessarily over many of the other players that you might have picked. And here's what i suspect. He was featured in the glory of their times. Yeah the classic oral history by lawrence ritter who traveled over the country. And got some of these Deadbolt figures to commit their memories. To tape and transcribe them. It's a great book. Wonderful book one of the best books but that book came out in nineteen sixty six. And i'm gonna guess that justice. Blackmun devoured gordon their times. That is right up his alley and i think that explains some of the other common names that are on this list that you might wonder why they are on this list. So rube bressler up. He's in gory their times. You know i'm slow burt. Gloria their times burtt davy jones of the tigers not of the locker or of the monkeys. He is in glory of their times. Babo farrell glory of their times albert. Well also is Gory their times. Jimmy austin glory of their times so we could go on and pretty sure that he was flipping through that book and remembering some guys in. That is a big part of why he included those names on this list. Now the biggest snubs by war which again he did not and could not avail himself of but now that we can. I looked for the biggest snubs by words through nineteen forty five because that's kind of the ending date from when he was pulling most of these names so on the pitching side the top ten who should beyond but are not on kid nichols tim. Keefe eddie plank. John clarkson pud galvin. Jim mccormick carl hubbell. Red faber vic willis and on hitter side mel ott. I don't know how to make this list. George davis roger connor arche von perpetually underrated bill dahlen frankie frisch bobby wallace al simmons joe cronin the original billy hamilton sliding billy hamilton homerun bakers not on this list. So there's some pretty obvious glaring omissions there. And i guess. They made the mistake of not talking to lawrence ritter and being featured in corey of their times. So mike complete statistical analysis of justice blackman's opinion in the original remember. Some guys will be linked from the show page but there is my way to deep dive into not a random collection of names but certainly a strange one strange that had existed at all and also sort of strange that it took the form that it did when i was in grad school band i Starting political theory and i thought about sports is way to like understand representation and political engagement. And that was those interesting to me. And i wrote a number of papers to to that effect thinking that that would sort of be my area of academic focus and i remember getting a paperback from a professor who i liked quite a bit who read it and had good notes but also made note to me that perhaps what was more interesting to me was the sports rather than the political theory and i didn't think that i would have a lot in common with premium court justice. Perhaps i have underestimated the similarities that we share a long list of mariners for no reason in the middle east. I think that in a paper. On the importance of the north western football players attempt to unionize and what that shows us about our understanding of representation that i had like a half page. Long footnote on qbr as dubious metric. So i was perhaps well on my way. Even if i didn't realize it you know Yeah well yes and what that means. I guess you pivoted to the job that that was right for you. Yeah justice blackmun just stuck it out on the supreme court. They're just muddling away. Who knows what he might have done. If you've leaned his passion could've mapped into something could have been the greatest wister of names of baseball players ever and he just had this one shot. He could've original david roth instead david coined that term. I now all right. Well thanks to bend for prompting that question thanks to the late justice blackmun for giving me a reason to do even worse useless research on this episodes and for other things too. You know you did some other stuff appreciate but there's stuff to this is the one that's relevant to our podcast where we talk about water. Yes well having told.
