"I don't think getting to scratch is a bar to set so i don't think that's something that like. Do you think you can become a scratch golfer. Yes okay good. I think you can too. But you've been playing and you've played at a competitive level and you're only twenty three. I have no idea. Hold shaft man. Three is the only tell is he's upset himself. Didn't take it more serious when he was younger so imagine. He's at the very least in his thirties. Probably older but i don't know for sure so it's a different deal and it's interesting that you know i in the times i get to play with marcus allen which will sound like a namedrop. It's not but whatever it doesn't matter but the premise being you'll see you'll see a comparing Contrast here i marcus. Allen was literally sitting right. Where i am sitting right. Now for a podcast. And he's huge golf. We probably played five or six times when he was living in saint louis which was surreal by the way i mean. What a random thing. Not because it's marcus. Allen is it's like why is he here and why am i playing with him and got. Why am i a regular in his game but either way In marcus he's marcus. Allen was a great baseball player. I think he might have been drafted by the padres. Grope in san diego And obviously heisman trophy in super bowl. Mvp so he's a sick athlete. He's a seven and he's now probably around sixty wonder how will he is. He's got to be around sixty. Yeah he is he. He was playing on the sixteen now along. And so i mean so there's that element of it. He also has kind of a feerick hitch in his. I guess his takeaway. It ain't gonna happen. No now the question. I asked him was. Do you think if you would have been playing when you're young. Could you become a scratch golf professional. I think the question asked him and he said yeah. I do you know he wasn't like yeah. Absolutely do in sixty one now. Different deal when i was playing with these fifty eight and you know two different situation. Not saying he could do it now or anything like that. And then on the fi. The day of the final round belle reeve. I was on the range. And i'm standing next al macinnis and we're just why in the range of the final day abell re was truly like field of dreams golf. You name the player in mine speed. I think was on there to actually was kind of in the mix kind of but you name the player even in twenty twenty one. i guess. Dustin johnson didn't make the cut but for real man. I think damn near anybody else can't lay as a lot of equity after the win yesterday but they were obviously tiger of course kapka rahm fowler. Adam scott i mean it was a.

"Laura be considered among the greatest. Nhl tough guys of all time. Certainly of his generation like the same play right here in edmonton showroom. I would say so in fact when he came into the league. I think it was gone all lookout. Look here here's all your other tough guys. You better raise an eyebrow here because here comes this guy from montreal rings. French absolutely he was guys are frightened of russ talked yesterday about l. mcinnis there's there's a great segment we do about the olympic team in two thousand and two and russ was part of the sorta selection committee but the coaches and stuff. And then i said who's on that team. You know players. Did you help players. And he brought up al macinnis. Did this guy rusty really have the hardest shot when he came into the league. Guys really nervous about blocking. I mean how much harder can it be then other. Nhl defense he said goalies. Were afraid to get that thing you know and so i look at that iraq. That's when this guy came in right guys we're going okay. Yeah this is not good. This is not good. You know if you're a marty mcsorley or never say they were frightened or or a pro. I don't know if he was playing or these other guys are are kordic. Probably missed he. Probably mistpro a little bit but You know and i'm sure there were was the odd fight that ended up losing. Somebody gets the jump on him or something like that but man. I don't remember him. Losing too many fights no and so he's big big guy six foot three big fella but now in retirement well into retirement now. He's decided that he's going to try. And get mike tyson and and fight him. Tyson is into his fifties now so he's a bit older but and he's by the way three weeks away from his first fight in fifteen years is gonna take on roy jones junior in an eight round exhibition no. I don't know what kind of an exhibition is like. You're either fighting or you're not exhibition. I guess but anyway According to law rock it's a seventy five percent chance that the deal to fight mike. Tyson is going to happen that the deal is done. Seventy five percent. Anyway and i don't know. Is that something. You'd want to see. Because i think tyson would kill the rock well soda. Why know how does this whole idea come about these exhibition games of washed up athletes to. Let's get them together. Okay done these guys are done and so we're going to put the two of them together to fight. It's kind of a little spin off of you know like battle of the blades right. We're going to get hockey players To skate with these women in the thing. That's a stupid idea. And the and yet it's got a big big viewership. Always the celebrity factor. You got two big names. The concept is interesting. It's got that hybrid feel to it. Different sports crossing over the they're both at the end of the day into combat. But i think it's a pipe dream. I mean george lorok. Ah very good fighter among hockey players. One of the best right but a great fighter among great fighters like legit guys like did that. Nothing else mike tyson right. And you've never fought before the guy's never been in a pro boxing match before and you gotta step in there with mike tyson. I don't know if you've seen tyson in preparation for this fight with roy jones junior. No he still looks like a total bad ass like the hand speed on that guy watching him punch. He is absolutely still ferocious. I want no part of mike tyson. If i'm george rock well i agree i. I watch youtube videos or.

"And By, this lake and they have the The lights on and they have the Fountain going and I just stopped Samuel was asleep in his stroller. We had a fan on top of the story. Make sure stay cool in January. And Al Macinnis what happens in? The He needs something and we need. We need an ambulance. Defined US hardly GONNA. Get to us in the middle of Disney were has the emails. And all of a sudden obviously started my head and I, we're crazy. What are we doing? And all of a sudden I just looked at even sleeping like everything's fine. Just relax and enjoy the moment. Nothing's wrong and it was. That was just another Aha moment for me. Okay I can do this. You know. Guys protected us, so we went to Disney We. We came back home and my husband turned him in. He goes so now we go to the park. You know I know that exact feeling the way that I. say it about Connor. There were a lot of places that we couldn't go. Because of his extreme sensibilities and sensitivity to sound and noise, and there were a lot of places it really altered our life, so we don't have the same challenges, but I I understand, but then at the same time. God has provided incredible opportunities that we wouldn't have if we had conner, so it's kind of this catch twenty two like you know you. There were a lot of things you couldn't do with an the you would do with a typically developing child, but then here you've got this incredible special opportunity that most typical children don't get so. I I love the way that God. That God does that with our special kids he gives us opportunities to like you said you said it so beautifully to show up.

eleven hundred dollars and dollar investment last weekend so hopefully people will will take notice and look them up we give it out of your room hopefully we can make some people some money had in for the summer because we got a couple of great horseracing meets going on come up with several toga and del Mar and we got our race tomorrow on NBCSN I'll be working from the basement the Stephen foster from Churchill so good good weekend they're very good when the curtain falls off it's going to be even a better weekend I knew what how many minutes until publisher I get in on that one right now the three probably I don't know probably less than twenty probably wrong can we get a break I'm gonna have to take a look at the three in the third and your player tree tree double yeah well what are the odds on a kid you know what I've been on the blower for the last fifteen minutes so I have no clue no clue what the odds are you're hi Eddie how bout dis the hall of fame announcement and I want to talk about both you know we'll get your your teammate Dougie Wilson in a minute but I mean for Merion so who you know might be the greatest free agent addition to any Chicago sports team ever certainly in the team photo one of the two or three best I mean what did you think about Haas going in on the first ballot yeah I look at I would I would argue that it could be a great debate whether it's today for you guys are down the road but I mean you just talk about an acquisition wrapped up in about it laughter but any acquisition when you look at the impact that he made on that team and that and then the ultimate right Condit the winning the winning stamp eclipses you know no pun intended here put trumps everything really I mean it's that that's where you really look at it go look at the guy was is important as anybody on that roster the utility to be able to play the offense aside the defense of side the leadership inside that dressing room and people forget who and and like I'm I'm not surprised you know he was a first ballot hall of Famer but people forget and your card number we had this conversation you know I think great when when when Haas came to Chicago was like look mom the card went to back to back to back Stanley Cup finals with three different teams N. like there's got to be something to that right even though he lost the person who you know and then eventually won you know in the third year yep three times the charm but just an amazing individual a guy that you can put in any situation and I think this again having stood behind the bench for a couple years as I did in Pittsburgh way back when as a coach and having played a game and now broadcasts that every time that door opened and I think the great powerful and I talked about a lot one hopes this year you know exactly what the hell you are going to get when that door opened when he went out the door and you can't say that about a lot of you know athletes are a lot of individuals just knew what you were going to get night in and night out on the biggest stages he rose to the occasion and you know look at some people say that maybe he was the fourth Beatle on this unexpected store across the Black Hawk to then but you know look at they they don't win I don't believe I don't believe that they win without a guy like merry holes in the lineup and that and a great gap for the Blackhawks you know way back when you know back in that you know that I guess it's not all nine ten season I guess a lot Jouni contribute in so many areas I think you're right the ideal checks our guest on ESPN one thousand and then you played with Doug Wilson I said the article yesterday I mean it's you know a lot of his contemporaries in that era guys like Paul Coffey al MacInnis reporter obviously overshadowed him what can you talk about what Doug meant to sort of the the evolution of the position it's all because of Bob your I get it by but by that era you know defenseman and become much more offense of minded and Doug was one of those guys was any any yeah it was I mean he was a he was a he was the narrator of the offense from the back end Carmen a look at I I grew up watching really play and then I got a chance to play with them when I was eighteen years old and I need to correct the pox his heart is anybody I mean like he could I mean you talk about shooting the puck in absolute laser from the back and then you know what I think is I mean I I remember the one I think you would thirty some gold one year and then it died just just look at the maiden in defense spending amazing often times run but you know you get a lot off the ice within the community and it was like it was a long time coming off that mean a lot of people thought that you know you know maybe it wasn't going to happen but it rightfully did and invite them and I've talked a lot about Willie over the years and another guy who.

"They know and they know you they just they know the game. They will know hockey they want, and it does some kind of vibe when you get in that building as you've really feel the crowd on the ice, and it's very something unique and going up. Nor too much we on, and and being able to be part of the Montreal Canadian and holding the Forum I, was there the cat then and those ceremony on the ice at all the captains and the history? is on the ice. There's just incredible infamy like I. said earlier was just to be right place right time of the captain and and I was just those are memories. Obviously I'll never forget those memories. Is GonNa be part of my life. They look for the rest of my life. You know so it's been. Playing for the Montreal Canadian was just a huge they they. Take things in the and and being able to be part of it then, and at that time of of of food. That's happening in Montreal was incredible. You can help me with this Pierre, and that is of all the sports that I've ever seen. There are captains on teams, but there's something about hockey and that player wearing the C on his Jersey that I think makes a different. Can you help me out as far as understanding what it means to the player, and what it means to his teammates, what it means to the fans? I mean obviously get great communication with players. You gotTa have a good relationship with your coach coaching staff, and and so there's something and you gotta be on life. Obviously you got to show some leadership and and so you wear that he would tried, and you're representing your team. You're representing your teammates and everything you do off. The ice is important on the ice is important and so it is, it is. There is responsibility there, no doubt about that. Peer you spent five seasons with the Saint Louis Blues, and you played with pretty good players Brett Hall, Chris, pronger Alma Guinness and grand fewer. Tell me a little bit about playing with those teams well. Incredible great players you know I. ve able to play with brats for three years on the same line and I never seen a guy that could shoot the puck doorway he. He shot the PUCK. Is You know one timer is hard to do for him? Is Range was a about a two? Range able to move his hand forward and. And He always said that You know to have a good one time you gotta let the stick to the work, and he was able to this so well and obviously love playing with You Know Scott Young. I'd say for many years with and I love playing with Scott Young and obviously you know Al. macinnis Chris pronger. I mean to us our guy that you have on the same team. Those incredible and we had great defense, and when you were coming out of breakout, Musone you better be ready to talk was coming ray on your sticks and and he was crispy and retired and so obviously. you know playing with these guys and I love playing way a keen like this. We have great team team and in a lot of town to travel the new trump. I'm forgetting some names here, but it was. It was a great team as you had an opportunity of your nineteen year career to watch the great players, I mean the truly great ones. What's the commonality that all of them have? So I mean you being visual the game, and and in today competing around the dot to the board, really coming out with the puck at pin the price, really getting in there and that's probably the biggest thing that I see from skilled player now they have skilled, but they had the desire to get the puck committee competed heart, and there's a an in crosby could be probably when the example is, he's. He's talented, but he's not only talented. He works really hard, you know. He really battles on the boards, and he wins those one on one battles and all of a sudden. You're creating something offensively. Offensively because you're winning that one on battle, and so it's fun to see, and then you gotta have the Vision in. Obviously you could win. The one on one battle was, but at the same time you create when you're coming out of one on one you get ahead. You don't have much time to think about it, but you gotta be able to see what's behind players. And what's what's the what your auction in in that comes then with talent, and you see guys like you know Wayne Gretzky Mario Lemieux you know these guys are so great so good and but division. They have an incredible and. And across the you know mcdavid. These guys are just. skill, Clark, worker, and and Great Vision Vision they have is is. Able to create something in a and not much time to to to get something done and and they're able to create something very. Clear something offensive even have a lot of time to do. It's always difficult for an athlete to go through the decision making process when they're going to walk away from the game. It's never been easy for any of the athletes I've known in your quote was at one point. We did decide as far as retiring, but we wanted to take all summer really to think about it, and just to make sure and at the end of the summer it was the same answer. It was just hi. How hard was what kind of introspection did you do to to know that this was the right time? Well it's. It's I mean you play. I was able to play for nineteen season so for me. It's not like out four or five years, and then I'm forced to stop You know I was able to play for so many years and then and then when when I bought my reading, my body told me you said okay. I'm done. I had some injuries last two years. Of My career and I was thinking. You know what why you know I. Get I did what I love for many years and I really enjoyed it and and I love the game, but I won't point might still loving the game. The mine were single kid. My body was telling me it. Okay. You got enough. So. That's how I decided to December. Said you know what I'm ready. Yeah, no I! No I know what you mean. I always like asking athletes this question and that is when you think back over your entire hockey career and your life and everything. Is there a particular moment pierre that's of etched in your mind that brings a smile to your face, and that you'll never ever forget. Yeah, there's there's two I would say one from Saint. Louis when we actually were down three one in the theory. It was against Phoenix and we came back to win. in overtime and I scored the overtime goal game seven. It was in Phoenix also and those. That's probably one of the. Goal that we just the fact that we came back from behind as a team, and and and for me I was just in funding was just a smaller tip when the net and that that that probably is probably the most exciting goal. I had in my career, and that definitely put a smile on my face, and what about that and the other thing was causing the form Montreal is the captain having the torch, and if you look if you google this as far as the ceremony they had, there is just incredible with having it also mean. And I said this is being the right place. The right time as a captain was just. And going up north to Montreal and being a part of the Montreal Guinea that point and being part of that history I couldn't ask him better so that put a second time I say here. I WanNa thank you for sharing your life. Sharing your outstanding nineteen year career with us. You're on sports byline. You are welcome here anytime. Take care of my friend. Thanks a lot. Appreciate it..

"Mark Lazarus is article at the athletic today about the forgotten man in the Blackhawks dynasty equation I'll say that sure it's a one sided account you know it's focusing on Mike Smith that name might not even be familiar you're going to a lot of young hawk fans are Chicago sports fans but I'll tell you why is important here in just a second Mike Smith had a long career in the NHL as an executive and as a coach you before he came to Chicago in the late nineties early two thousands but after he left here in two thousand three two thousand four when he was fired he basically washed out a hockey he's a farmer now in so you could say you could remarks article and say well you know it's kind of one sided from Mike Smith's perspective is maybe a guy just got flushed out hockey's pretty bitter he claims the Blackhawks bad mouth him talks about the dysfunction I don't think that's a surprise Danny hawks fan then knows what it was like back then when old man works is running things they were certainly dysfunctional to say the least yeah I know there is there any said it was a very unpleasant work environment and Polly was constantly trying to get him fired and that's not going to be a shock to anyone so there's probably a a good deal of truth in there but why is Mike Smith important you ask well Mike Smith drafted Duncan Keith Brent Seabrook Corey Crawford and Dustin both one of those are all pretty central figures to the dynasty and Abbas was only here for one but still was an important part doesn't often is going on obviously have a fantastic NHL career and been very good player for a long time the three draft that netted Seabrook Crawford and often happens to be the one and only draft in Chicago Blackhawks history that netted three future all stars here still to this day to this day the only one and Mike Smith talks about the story how after he drafted I was really he and his his amateur scouting guy who in at least a Mike Smith gives his amateur scouting at the time most of the credit who is in love with Duncan Keith the amateur scouting director Vincente I don't know that we can do this and Mike Smith said well why not and he said because he's five ten and a hundred and sixty five pounds and Mike Smith said so what if we believe in him let's wrap them in Bob Pulford apparently behind the scenes Ali was irate told Mike Smith that it was the worst pick in Blackhawks history and that he was probably gonna fire him over it it's pretty funny now to think about that state right right worst traffic in Blackhawks history because back then you got to remember police part of the old garden you know your co joked about this during a cross talk with caps defenseman had to be a certain look into certain they had to be six to rob later exactly Scott Stevens yes though the big guys Dion but no right Chris Pronger right those were the guys they were drafted big guys that were Intimidators in the middle of the ice never mind Paul Coffey through the eighties and nineties you know I mean like working but I want to forget about that al MacInnis was a real giant met al MacInnis reborn two four yeah for the St Louis blues but Polley had in his mind the defenseman to look a certain way and Duncan Keith didn't look that certain way same thing on the next year when they took a flier laid on Dustin bustling he was fat they looked at him and he said he's fat he can't play Mike Smith the real as shares a story that in their first prospect camp he even had some reservations looking at his photo like I thought of your because famous story we have a look at immigrant paying this so we can track the kid with a body like this I look like well a broken down you'll well nobody really looked you know behind the exterior to say wait a minute this keep your call can play Mike Smith tells a story in the first prospect camp done a dozen bustling goes chasing a puck in the corner in the offenses remember back then he was a forward and they watched him as he's going into the quarter peek over his shoulder and look at the ice and they said he had instincts he got the corner got the puck turned into exactly what to do with it made a tape to tape pass on the right side winger answering his own wide open and they said well maybe he's fat but he can play there something there so don't always judge a book by its cover but the story that is interesting in our region verbatim here from mark Lazarus is article now he writes Smith calls this eight grapevine thing you got to remember all pause record you gotta remember Smith was fired and he is hearing this story through the grapevine he wasn't in the organization when the when this reportedly happened but this is as Smith recalls it something that nearly happened in Lazarus writes Smith calls this a great findings so take it with a grain of salt but to him it's a perfect example of how he was it right for the job and how wrong Pulford wise the way Smith tells it offered was very close to trading then prospect don't can keep to the flyers packaging him with three other players to bring thirty four year old Jeremy Roenick and thirty four year old Tony Amonte back to Chicago in the twilight of their careers the only thing that stopped him was the two thousand four two thousand five lockout as the trade market was frozen for an entire year and during that lock out Keith had a stellar season for the Norfolk admirals of the American hockey league which was loaded with just about every top prospect in the league because of the wiped out and H. all season the following fall keep made his Blackhawks roster what made the Blackhawks roster out of camp played eighty one games and never looked back the rest is history Duncan Keith is a hall of Famer without him they might never win three Stanley cups and thank goodness the two thousand four two thousand five lockout happened because the Blackhawks might look very different without Duncan Keith and aged J. R. Tony Amonte back then York and and for what just to appease the handful of fans that were coming to games and ended prove his point I guess that Duncan Keith would never amount to anything yeah exactly so a sometimes the best deals do you make of the ones you don't end up making for what ever reason you don't end up making all my goodness right so that would be a great little footnote in a book somewhere down the line and you know that the Duncan Keith's story hi I lost my check lets you know that kind of thing that's great that's a great book lost check words right yeah Brent Seabrook the whole world is faster than me you know he was pretty good too though does it be some great great titles the books that was the knock on Seabrook when they drafted him in the first round at his feet were too slow core Corey Crawford's book stopping pucks and boy I wish I didn't drink what you got to have some fun right yes I guess you do what does the hawks dynasty ever happened without Keith Seabrook product box we have to have it yeah even the moves that ended up being a little bit bad for you you end up doing something else because of that or you had to make another decision because Chris W. A. was terrible terrible yes he had to do something because of that and you know the anti near me is the first guy then it's Corey Crawford that comes in after that that's right and that's not to say by the way that the all of Mike Smith's reign in picture perfect of course they weren't in he was kind of what's the charge of the ABC line well he didn't I I don't know which of those players who were drafted I mean he was certainly there at the time with solder you mean him Brian Sutter when I had some of those players he traveler Tyler Arneson mark bell and I'll call her Kyle Calder and never won the Calder Cup and you have a boy that was when the the ceiling was together you're you're right you know he I think Mike Smith was the one who drafted Jaka poppy stonking Attuma route to never was as good as they thought of me on around the league for a little while but I certainly wasn't a worthy of I think it's October route to I think was picked in the top ten if I'm not mistaken it is he has a Kelly Scott hit me I don't have injury worries Achilles got cut in money and might have been when it wasn't after it moved down you might be right there was another bad pick another Russian Mike Smith was in love with the Russian kids back then there was another that catholica no no there's the octopod make there was McHale Jaka Poff and then there was a Anton bad Chuck I want to stay with me he said he never played more than probably a hockey games and losing charge can't can't Barker those are I'm guessing there was a downtown special all boy yeah that was one of those that we scratch your head for a little number nineteen Dale Tallon interesting to think about how these things happen though sometimes Andrew Brandt wrote a whole column at SI about you know advice to the NFL players and he put this up on Twitter he said it's a applicables to MLB NHL NBA players as well as they face clawbacks you wrote this one final note on the subject while NFL franchise values may or may not be taking a hit right now we know that their values will continue to rise once this pandemic is in the rear view when owners ask or demand the player share in their short term losses the player should in turn asked the owners to share in their long term gains that should stop the conversation pretty quickly and I use that note and a few others that I mentioned from the Craig Edwards article at fangraphs yesterday to anybody that is very R. rated me or York or anybody else that thinks the players are well within their rights to say interspecific we talking about baseball here Hey we've already agreed to a pay cut we're gonna help we've got a contract we've got a contract and we just agreed with six weeks ago it's not time to renegotiate that now they were blindsided by the owners suggesting that all the sudden we share the revenues they should hold firm and I think interbrand makes a good point go ahead and ask to share in the long term profits when everything gets back to normal and see how quickly those requests are dismissed summarily by the owners I've had a few gentleman very upset with me the last couple of days how can you expect them to pay the same when their gate is the revenue's gonna be off thirty percent because their gate there are ways and some can even make the argument I curse you get a re Krebs article some even think that they could still turn a profit even without the gate for numerous reasons that I don't have to get into now you can get into the the specifics if you read the article at fangraphs about why it's not out of the realm of possibility that would eat with even out even without the gate they're still gonna turn half the profits with TV and some of the other things that no gate means to their bottom line because food costs and other cost obviously dropped dramatically when there's nobody in the stands so it's very doable folks and again they paint the picture that the players are the bad guys here Blake Snell doesn't help that cause with his rant I suppose but they paint the picture that the players are the bad guys all the players are going to be the ones that don't bring baseball back to you fans remember that they're the evil ones they're the greedy ones the owners are just as greedy and that's what I would encourage everybody to remember out there and every fan to remember before you get so hot and bothered with me or you're going everybody else ready to face the players that suggest it wait a minute we agreed to something six weeks ago see now all the sudden we have to renegotiate we have to share revenues this year that's not the way it works so I thought interpreted a good job of painting the picture for you too we can ask Doug Glanville when he thinks about all this when we come back Doug Glanville will join us coming up next to talk about the future of baseball in twenty twenty.
"al macinnis" Discussed on Scoops with Danny Mac
"Ben Always good is with you. How are things there are some chiefs players who might need to call Anderson Water Keti after some of the parade they stole from the Blue's right? We got a call him out. They got down there Off Their floats and walked around that that has to be the way it's done. I mean when people saw how how awesome the Blues Parade was that Interaction Action. I think the I don't know that the chiefs said Hey. We're going to do that because of the blues but that is the way to do a parade but yeah a Lotta bought a beer drinking in public lot of a lot of shot. Gunning Travis Chelsea I think is probably still drunk so you know if you if you have a night that gets out of control a little too crazy will you know the guys to call. Sto Criminal Defense Dot Com. They probably should have been there and they would've had plenty of clients I remember talking about that with Al macinnis about the parade and I saw him probably two weeks afterwards. In from my time with doing the blues have gotten to know all very well and I said you know. What did you take away from this great run and all that stuff and he said man the parade he said that is now the gold standard of how parade rate should be done with a city and with their fans and he said it was so spontaneous with our players he said I thought it was awesome? It was the best parade I've ever been to. It was fun to watch portray Angelo. Get you know because he was up on the Budweiser wagon like he had triplets. He didn't know that he was riding the wagon. He was trying to figure out what to do. And he's eventually just said forget it and he just gets down. He was barely early on thing and everybody I think kind of followed his lead so yeah cool moment happy for Kansas City I had a hard time kind of going full chiefs bandwagon. Just because of the the way that Clark Hunt voted. I'm it's hard to forget that I know he since said he didn't want the rams to leave but hard to not be happy for Andy. Reid not be happy for for Pat Mahomes Hard to not be happy. Happy forget like spags. WHO's a two time superbowl champion as defensive coordinator? Didn't work out for him. Here with the Rams but nice to see him bounce back I wanNA get into baseball. We Steve Carlton Keith Hernandez Tommy. Her Matt Morris Edgar Renteria Lee Smith John Tudor as selected by the Red Ribbon Committee. Out of those seven fans. Vote to into to the cardinals hall of fame. And they'll be inducted in August GimMe your impressions of of that group. I think what has to happen. Is it's time for Keith Hernandez to get in and then after that. Take your pick nick and there are a lot of good good candidates there but Keith Hernandez needs to be in. If we're going to have a Carl's fame Keith. Hernandez needs to be in it. Whether you want to look at things like did he win. A World Series yes Look at his wins above replacement. Easily the top on the list during those guys times with the cardinals. You WanNa look ups. I mean I did. This an looked up stat for this when the the finalists came out Keith Hernandez his opiates during the chunk of seven season. Chunk with the cardinals and he was playing every day. It was top top fifteen in the game among guys who had more than three thousand at bats during those seven seasons you look at first baseman top three and you know one of the other guys is a hall of fame in Cooperstown superstar. This is a player who was a key figure for cardinals team that went on to win a world series of beloved cardinal team. I know it didn't end the best. They had to trade him. There was a lot of stuff going on with Keith Hernandez with baseball at that time. And he's talked a lot about that but to look back and say man. It's time to honor that that guy for what he meant to that team what he meant to cardinals fans I think it's I think it's crazy that he's not in already so get him in. And after that I mean you can make a case for a lot of different guys. I like Matt Matt Morris underrepresented as as a horse for that cardinals rotation for longtime Keith Hernandez has to get it. Yeah this is great. It's it's a debate And the cardinals the you know they. They love the debate that goes along with it. And that's what makes this fun I had the chance going over to one zero one. ESPN and for folks. That don't know I've signed on with them officially officially to do some coverage of baseball and David freese popped in and I was remiss I I wanted to ask him about this because I brought it up a lot on the air. I don't know if they'll ever make that committee. You know to get to that point but he does fit the criteria to be a cardinals hall of Famer. I gotTA wonder if David Freezes is is going to go in there one day but to the ultimate point of what I was trying to say here with you is that it brings up debate. It brings up research. That's I think a good thing absolutely and it really. I don't get fired up about it too much. Because it's for the fans and it gives them a voice you know. Put Mark Maguire in and they decided to do that. They get the vote so they did it a good good for them. I don't agree with Mark Maguire. Then we can debate that all day but again it's for the fans but man. There are a lot of folks out there Dr who remember Keith Hernandez what he did for this team. What he did for for that world series team we did for that run and out? Can you not think that he's a cardinals hall of Famer so I think it will happen. I think it was really close Last year I think this is the time. I also think that when you look at Keith Hernandez you cannot overlook what he meant meant defensively in some believe. He's the best defensive first baseman ever not just really good ever like. He's the gold standard. Like forget how many consecutive gold loves was it was I think six I mean it was Remarkable and then also the the bat now not the staggering homerun totals that you see now but I mean his on base percentage was damn near your four hundred. You know this guy was an all around player on a team. That did all the things. Well I mean people laugh at me but you know I kind of compare. This current cardinals knows team to as close to that version of of Whitey Ball. That we've seen now no one's going to look like why'd you ball in two thousand twenty. The guys get paid to hit a home runs and and and the game has changed the ball. You know the the actual baseball has changed since then but in terms of playing good defense running the basis well being aggressive on the base pads you no. This team has some of those elements and they both have really good first basement to absolutely So you like potentially Matt Morris. I think he's been out of the spotlight so much that that hurts him. But he is deserving for sure In the other guy that I think there's two that really come to mind for me out of this group that I think will get had a lot of attention. Was John Tudor. Because of few look at the body of work that he had for three or four year period. It's it's unbelievable. It's some of the best pitching that the cardinals have ever had. And then the other one is Tommy. Her who was kind of the glue in some ways that kept everything going with those great teams. You had willy. You had Ozzie yet. Pendleton handle ten yet. Jack Clark you had tutor but in the middle of it all was Tommy. Her and that's something that I think doesn't get its recognition men and maybe it will now in August long run with the cardinals to certainly has people who view him as a fan favourite still in some ways kind of similar to a younger generation. eguren Korea I mean I can remember being a young guy in Sedalia Missouri watching cardinals baseball and and you know was dude so I think there are a lot of if it skews younger. I think you could see him. Get more votes than I think. Some people think so again to me. It's Keith Hernandez and then it's really fascinating conversation in the group after that but to the bigger point and we'll wrap it up about The hall of fame with this. It's the cardinals hall of fame. And I think some people are saying well. You can't put some of these guys in because they don't have hall of fame numbers offers exactly but they may have the heartstrings pulled on a certain fan that wants to vote even see him in and that's the part of this it makes it fun and this also goes the other way where it's not just that you could because you were a hall of Famer in Cooperstown means you get into the cardinals. Holiday mean Lee Smith. Now you can. There's no doubt about that. Lee Smith is a Cooperstown Hall of Famer Summer In a lot of people say well how could he be in the cardinals holiday if he was a hall of Famer will was he a key player for the cardinals totally. I mean they're they're shutdown lockout closer but he also most of his career was with with the cubs his best statistics. You know were were with the cubs. So I don't have a problem saying hey that guy's a hall of Famer but not necessarily the cardinals hall of Famer. Let's continue with the cardinal conversation Two quick points I WANNA get into. Nolan aeronautics so he's still with the Colorado rockies this time next week. The cardinals are on the field in Jupiter and and getting ready pitchers and catchers in a lot of the guys are already there What do you think happens with that in terms of where the cardinals are with that? What do you think happens? Well I think all eyes are going to be on Arizona to see kind of what the next chapter of the Nolan. Aaron Auto Saga is and we don't know how that's going to play out now. Usually when a star player comes out and criticizes this is is the general manager publicly. Doesn't bode well for the long term future. That doesn't necessarily mean that it can't be smoothed over Nolan Aeronautica pro the Iraqis rockies could make some sort of an apology or they could try to smooth that out. The other thing that I think is probably more likely to happen. is both sides kind of go out of their corner and the rockies figure out if they can compete this year a lot of things go away when the team wins and a lot of things bubble up when the team doesn't play well absolutely so if if the rockies come out on a tear and they're you know they're looking like they're going to compete in the postseason. I bet this calms down. If they don't and they look like the team that everybody was disappointed in last cheer. Then I think you'll hear this. No they're not trade speculation. Continue to be a big topic before the trade deadline but spring training when the Rockies Tarazona the comments he makes their the comments that are made from the front officer. They will be kind of a weathervane. I think in which direction this is moving. And we really don't know yet until till that point comes if he's in the clubhouse grouse in every day after practice about why they won't get rid of him then that's unsustainable you know that's GonNa wear on teammate. That's going to get people frustrated. Did if he says. Hey I'm ready to put this behind me. Let's go in and they do then. This could potentially go away the other thing that could happen that no one talks about is they could fire the GM. I mean mean British is not there forever. He's not He's not set in stone. That would be one of the perhaps the easiest ways to sort through this. If you were determined to make Nolan Aeronautic happy and keep them will that happen. I don't know I mean. We have to see what kind of what what the reading is on on spring training. We're coming to you from the Lou Fuse Automotive Studios on scoops Danny AMAC DOT COM Lou fused dot com.

"You're listening to all the king's men the official podcast of the La Kings led back over for to walk long now by a hurdle and then culpa Dr Side of that patch already heard all scars. Now here's your host Jesse Cohen. Welcome backing fans. I am Jesse Cohn. This is all the king's men all star weekend is done. But before we focus in on the rest of the season Robin Dutton and I are going. Take One last look at the festivities in Saint Louis and Ontario a slight warning. This episode ends a bitter abruptly. There was meant to be another ten or fifteen minutes but we had to guess S. calling in and frankly I'm still working on making it sound like something you'd want to listen to so apologies for that and apologies to our mystery guests. Hopefully we'll have that audio for you soon in the meantime. And here's a look back at the all star weekend the Nhl all-star break is over as is the Ahl all-star. We're GONNA take a quick look back before for we take a quick look forward joining me today Robin Dutton. How're you doing today? Robin are you Jesse. Maximum thank you before we get into all of the hockey stuff. It's rare take a moment to talk about basketball but I think it would be impossible for us not to address the events of this weekend. Yeah very sad. Shocking News in the city of Los Angeles in the entire tire world is grieving right now. The loss of Kobe Bryant Such an iconic person. I think he touched so many lives. just shows you the reach that we have in this world. A lot of people who've never been matt him are feeling that that law so The group of the King Staff went over the Lakers practice facility yesterday which is just a block over more offices and they had a beautiful memorial morial outside which is really moving emotional and nor heart just goes out to Vanessa and their children and all the families involved. I generally am uncomfortable. Double with hero worship in all of its forms which puts me in an odd position covering a sport. That handles most of its marketing through. Air Worship I'm not a huge Laker fan but if basketball was to be played and a championship had to be awarded. I would obviously always prefer it. Go to the Lakers and it would. It'd be impossible to live in l.. A. For any amount of time and not be aware of Kobe Bryant and the impact the add on the fan base so for anybody grieving. You know we feel for you. Obviously obviously and it's a tragedy that nine people their lives so as many people said hug your kids appreciate the time you've got is absolutely take the short just again our condolences our love and our prayers go to everyone involved while said no good way to do this. But we're going to transition into the all star game we earn. Look back on it. We're GONNA say what we'd like what we liked. Sorry what we might change. We're going to talk about the women's event and And have reactions agianst shooting stars so first things first. Let's talk about what we liked from just from the skills contest. Yeah I mean I think Saint Louis did such a great job with this event Kobe having three assists in the Pacific Division winning I mean successful around. I love seeing Leyla Anderson announcing the Saint Louis Blues. I thought that was pretty fun. She has has a great career in announcer. Should wants it boy. She is impressive I love seeing Thomas. Hurdle coach are have some chemistry out. There I think Kobe gave him an assist on his goal. And just how they incorporated Al macinnis and so many other legends into the play. I thought it was pretty funny. I did enjoy you know. They had chock that hall. They had Brennan for Dirk. Oh that a couple of I can't remember if there were other layers that former players that game played role I would have liked. You know some of those things things. Where if you if? I didn't know that that was going to happen. It never would have occurred to me to do it but once it happened I was like oh well you know. Let Bernie take a couple of shots but I thought the with with With chuck going up there with his two kids I thought that was very nice. you know Brett Hull going I think it was during the shooting stars right within. They haven't come out there to take this off. I mean it's moments like that where you can't plan. I'm for the All Star game to be in the building of the reigning Stanley Cup champion now so very nice that things come all. This story lines came together. I think Thou's pretty special. I mean just seeing the as much as flames fans WANNA hate the family seeing all three of them together and seeing the photos from when they were at their dads all star game like. That's pretty special. Yeah at the show is like hockey transcends I. I always appreciate when you have an opportunity for these players to have genuinely human moments comments. You mentioned the Bieber mask. I have a question for you. Somebody who works in in the business ops side of the hockey world. When I saw the Bieber thing my first thought wasn't I tweeted out congrats to the marketing person who works for the sharks? That had that idea. Yeah as I. Don't I just refuse to believe that. Tomas hurdle had that idea himself so I honestly think this may even come from Bennington so beaver and ham had been going back and forth on twitter. You know making a bad about if he were could score on on him and whatnot and I think the winner will donate some money to charity. Hopefully that set up in the future by. I think I don't know it could have been behind the goal will. We'll see if it comes out but I believe that more no disrespect to hurdle but I just remember when Kessler took his kid out and then a few rounds later I can't remember who it was grabbed. Johnny the drought and pretended moments. Like that I'm like okay. That was funny but it doesn't require a prop or planning when a guy has the mat like there's no other. Tomas Hurdle took time out of his life now he wasn't at staples right now staples center but in actual which. I don't even know if they have those anymore. The hostile because we're S- totally someone definitely is is helping out there but I think it just helps grow the game. It's on a wider level of music fans and just me birth canal. You know. Turn their attention to the all star skills competition neighbors the believers. So now we're going to get into what we change and and I don't want to dwell too much on planes or whatever but I have a crazy. I fixed the All Star game or not over doing so anything you would tape before we get into my insanity. I didn't like the accuracy competition that digital. So yeah I think. A lot of people had problems with that thinking and technical technical issues they had to bring out new. I thought that was stunned for a second. Like ooh and net but No I mean there's something satisfying about seeing those smash in real life. So Yeah Yeah. That's something this year that I thought we come back to the older method. Otherwise you mean. We'll get into the shooting stars later but now the electronic display was a perfect perfect example of over things and I'll go a step further the boards. There's a lot of conversation about this on Social Media The digital digital boards there. I don't know what the exact Termez they're not normal. No and as somebody pointed out it's fine I suppose if you WANNA have a goal animation happening behind distracting distracting. Whatever but that's fine? It's two thousand twenty and kids with their you know iphones or whatever but they cut away from the shot with the with the animation and it almost instant. So you're not even really no. It's not purposeful. Yeah I know I was watching with the puck tracking layer talking systems. And it's just distracting to me personally. Though I hate them I was a nice way but yeah I'm not how I will as soon as the puck drifted behind one of the nameplates as like okay. I don't out yeah I'm done I don't need need it and I saw the puck. There's a very subtle trail option that they have now need that either now and wasn't planning on volume but now I'm going to. I don't care if this is elitist or arrogant. But if you if you if we're GONNA I WANNA go a path where we dumped the game down to its lowest possible form in an attempt to appeal to hypothetical viewers who may or may not even like what. Oh you're trying then I will eventually stop watching. I think that Matthew can reuse but not at the All star these are the best players in the world you will know who they are alright or watching most of the time on either our laptops our. TV's like you can see the puck. This is used. Maybe if you're on a mobile device or even if you're playing in a game where you don't know many of the players about the trail behind the pox everglades highlights fine but make it any of you ever go to the point where where it's like a closed captioning option where you can turn it on or off. It'd be great fine but I. I don't want it strongly all right. So here's my fix for for the All Star game. I think it's real simple and I don't think it's I don't think it's terrible. Don't change the event maybe WANNA WANNA change the event. That's fine but the purpose is it doesn't matter if you do or you don't treating it like Oscar Bingo. I don't watch all the movies his opinions on all of the races. But I have a friend who hosts an Oscar party there's Bingo cards and fill out the BINGO card and you find yourself rooting for events to happen. During the telecast you ordinarily wouldn't care about the NHL every postseason has a bracket that everybody fills out and within four games. Everybody's is usually wrong. Because there's some about amount of upsets that causes people not to pay attention to it. But in a singular event like an all star game. I don't it doesn't necessarily have to be a BINGO card. It could be a fantasy card could be. I don't know but you pick pick what team finishes with. How many wins in the event? And and then you pick points or events you say like okay if somebody scores a Michigan style across goal. That's worth five points if somebody goes between the legs exits two points if the puck touches three different guys sticks within three seconds of going in the net. That's the point of a goal. He gets an assist. That's.
"al macinnis" Discussed on The Steve Warne Project - Sports
"At rb computing 235-minute and place suite one zero six in bells corners. I will happy birthday to Wayne. Gretzky belatedly who celebrated his fifty nine th year the same age as him right. Nice I am so so entering your sixtieth year old. I can't believe Steve. We didn't although there was a terrible traction yesterday the Kobe Brian Tragedy tragedy but at some point being the biggest Wayne bootlicker I never. I never wished him a happy. That'll cost you on the on the podcast. Hopefully he's not listening. Well hopefully is back. Whatever say I can't believe that ever say I hope they're not listening well Jim and that's we're all about here? Okay we're trying to and Wayne's welcome anytime you're probably going to want to clear that up Jimmy me before we did our first podcasts. That you're not all about getting listeners. Okay that's a bit of an issue. I'm here to repel listeners. I hope we're down a few Titi Stephen. What's the count? Are we down for anyway. Happy birthday the `grats anyway. He's is a big part of the All Star game as he often is and he was the honore captain for the Pacific Division and the In the skills competition I guess I don't know why you need an honorary captain there. But he was always he's always a part of the fun and And of course accepting all kinds of media in terms of interviews and Gretzky said he continues to believe Alex Ovechkin has has a legitimate chance to break his. NHL Record of eight hundred ninety four goals and he'd like a front row seat when it happens. I'm a big believer records and made to be broken what I accomplished accomplished. I'm proud of very hard to do what I did. And it's really hard to do what he's doing now but there's no question in my mind that is a real legitimate chance of doing it. The two things she needs staying healthy and he's proven that over his career. He plays hard and stays healthy. And secondly you gotta be a good team and he plays a good team. So are you saying that he'd be okay with it. He'd be like Rooting for the guy to suppress it. And I'm calling bs on that one as as competitive as Gretzky is and you Saad. They put out a video of it. It's been floating around the Internet forever of this old video of Gretzky when he looked like he was in his early twenties in a foot. Race with Palay EH. Sugar Ray. Leonard and Bjorn Borg. I think was in there as well and he looked like that guy will compete. I'm sure over anything. So he saying the right things here but I'm not sure I buy it his role now in you know after he retired a lot of guys go through. What am supposed to do now? You know that my life is completely over as a as a professional athlete which has been all consuming. And what do they do and and he never had any issue any issue at all with retiring and always knew after that he would play a great role in promoting the game a hockey. But the reason I believe and I really do believe this to be true. That is response to that question that I hope Alex does achieve it If you went that far is because it would be great for the game a hockey to continue to have people setting records right and I'm almost sure that's why he would say well. I like that. He's taken the attitude. I agree with it. I didn't think he would take the attitude kind of almost feel like you're diminishing your own accomplishments but it was so so so much easier to score. When Gretzky was in his heyday? It was ridiculous for so many reasons that we've chronicled again. And again on the Shell and refer veg skin to be approaching seven hundred with the way the game is played. Now I don't know I. It just boggles the mind that this guy is doing what he's doing in this era when everybody is so organized defensively when the goaltending is what it is The skill level off the charts. And he is going to become this year the the third player in NHL history to have fifty goal seasons nine times to tie with Gretzky bossy there and Gretzky and Bossi played in in a different era when it was considerably easier to score goals and for a Veg GonNa get fifty in his era. I'm more impressed by Ovechkin. I Call I Kohl Alex Ovechkin the greatest goal score in Nhl History and Wayne recognize recognizes that too. There's no doubt in my mind right all all. You GotTa do look back at hockey the late seventies eighties but I don't think he's records in jeopardy honestly. I think it's a it's a nice idea. Nice thought and everything that someone in. Today's Eric could do it. Well veterans get thirty five in September. If he gets fifty goals this year he'd be the second oldest guy in NHL history fifty goals in a season so that would be an amazing racing career to that point. It's a hall of fame career first ballot but now has Gretzky was talking about one of the keys to this whole thing staying healthy and think that was you know by design that he threw that. Very first thing you've got to stay healthy. Because and he would know as a guy ran into what all kinds of neck problems the last few years before we packed it then I think at age thirty eight. It's you know that age to pop out four. More fifty goal seasons starting at age thirty five live. That would be a tall order. He's been healthy to this stage. But it's a lot harder to stay healthy in those last five years of your career. Now before we go on the topic of tracking records I WANNA go back to the NHL. All Star skills competition for a moment. If you're watching that thing thinking there's some you know legitimacy to any of it it was a little in there but when I see Al macinnis. WHO's like in his mid fifties now? Oh roll out there with his old wooden Coho And that's a guy that obviously back in the day had The hardest shot in hockey. But he rolls out there in his mid fifties and gets one ceremonial shot and anybody who beats his his speed They'd get a whole bunch of money that they get to donate to charity so he goes out there and takes a shot and he's one hundred one miles an hour. Wow and I'm like Al macinnis career at the All star skills competition. Listen I don't think he ever had one hundred and one and yet he's out there with a wooden stick in his mid fifties and now he's still this blast and then like that and it was embarrassing for the guys guys who followed old dude. There's cracking into one hundred one. The first few guys like in there in the nineties somewhere. Like what the Hell's going on here and the other was. They changed targets so that their electron ICK now the the ones that are made a foam and they explode when the guys is would hit the targets and the accuracy contest. Yeah I liked it so yeah it was good. And and they've they've they've kept it but what they've got now is a little high tech action so it's basically a piece of plexiglass with all this animation. So if you hit the target it just electronially crumbles if you fall I got I gotcha kind of animated. If you will trouble was guys were hitting the target and nothing would happen guys. I would miss by ten inches. And the thing would crumble so it was a bit of a mass a bit of a Gong show as far as the NHL tracking of things. Yeah the skit skills skills thing in hockey is just perfect right. It's like you know if you're going to be really skilled show me. The Guy Weaving his way through five guys during a game name and scoring right. Yeah the whole hitting the target. Shit I don't think it's really good because it's very rare right with the guy rips off four in a row right when they do it right and and again at the end I'm like okay. That's great but fuck. He's only got fifteen goals right. He's not that skilled field. What about the skill where you know because you know there's always if think about game seven of the Stanley Cup final and a player ear? We'll get the PUCK and he'll be up in the stands in the third row with the PUCK and he'll lob shot one hundred and twenty five feet at a target of some kind. That's pretty standard right like that's a that's an important skill that needs to be part of that skills competition right. Yeah because that's what they did. That was actually one of the skills skills in the skills competition seriously. Yeah they were actually literally in the stands and the puck out onto the ice. They're we're up in the second deck. I think it was behind the goal. Oh and they set up this gigantic. I Dunno look like about a ten by ten foot target with a netting netting inside and yeah they'd have to fling a pock all cheese and then they brought in Brad Hall at one point just out of the blue and say I want to bring Dan someone who's Because Ryan Reilly chance to tie it and I think it was Mitch Martyr. Patrick Kane eventually won but he could tied them if he makes his last shot. Says I want to call in someone from the bullpen and they brought in Brad Hall and immediately the Blues Fans are all going we went blues. We lose and he gets up up there and just has one of the most miserable shots one can even imagine he. They gotta do that. They got a board for the sport of basketball. Steve Played Horse out in the driveway. Yes it's all right. It's like you got to repeat my shot right. Remember that I remember that it's like okay or you get an H.. H I'm going to go. Here's the deal because it's to play on the Larry Bird Magic. I think it was Michael. Jordan Larry Bird thing okay off the backboard down off two seats into the net right. It's that good. That's that that that's what that skill reminded me off right. And but let's just do it on the Ice Stevie. Okay I'M GONNA leave around that fucking mannequin. I going to do a Spin Rama and and then I'm going to do the Lacrosse all right. We've done enough damage here. We've done enough damage. Shouldn't be back with final thoughts in just a moment. Everyone needs insurance but that doesn't mean.

"You see this card is that al MacInnis who back in the day when I was doing NHL play by play was one of the great defense defensive snipers and into one of the great blue line scorers yeah he had a cannon back there the one there were a lot more defenseman that that join the rush and were successful hundred point defenseman the Paul Coffey the ray bore any Potvin al MacInnis Nick Lidstrom there so many guys back in the day al MacInnis was at the all star game and I I only noticed this because most of you know that on Twitter if you you're on Twitter they put up the trends in the top ten things trending and I guess they do it based on what you generally follow so most a minor sports related and I have NHL all stars and Butler so obviously then on sports and raptors but I also have al MacInnis who I just did not expect to see obviously I clicked it al MacInnis is fifty six years old he retired sixteen years ago from the NHL any shot the puck tonight a hundred point four miles an hour still bringing it fifty six years old good for al good for hours right that is just with a wooden stick he ripped a one hundred mile an hour bomb with a wooden stick see that's what it should be for you know they got these events it's for the fans in that market where the game is easy you know he played for the blues bring Amman out there you know maybe a rack up the dial a little bit get over a hundred form but you know that that's give that give the crowd give the people what they want Chris given given what they it's about the people they want to see their guys you know doing their thing and even if it's old timers bring out McInnis out there and let him shoot a slapshot at a hundred miles an hour old with the sure would and they did say there's some questioning about the calibration of the yeah I bet there is yeah there always is but I'm sure that it was fast you sick you could talk again with this on there I did not know they have that all the stupid shooting stars there with it up on the platform which by the way was the worst thing they ever created because they have like all these targets on the eyes of these guys are shooting that yeah and girls because of that one is from the Canadian the U. S. women's up there I saw campground was there yeah like the only one there any on is the one big when we're worth ten points every other time did any of the target was because they missed the million one like they had all these targets and no one was shooting at and they're missing like five out of six shots at the stupid thing it was the worst ever but they brought can you talk up there exist to Thunderball that it and he did a hell of a former player at all he looked like some fat nerdy died like you would never have known he was a professional athlete at this point and he's younger than al MacInnis he pulled up all the glass is in the valley of my group yeah he's younger than fifty what happened if you could talk yeah yeah it definitely ocular fifty six so that's something to yeah I mean that happens only these ex athletes you know it you see him in football you see it in all of sports going forty seven yeah I was just gonna look it up its forty seven so he's ten years younger I would happen you know everyone gets older and and no change but is it just looks so nine day from what he used to yeah nineteen years in the league to and he will be forty eight on in March twenty eight so in two months will be forty it so it just yeah it does it does show you that but much right it is for the fans and it is you know that part of it is for a lot for the guys that are there too I mean hockey such a family you know it's such a a brotherhood and I think all the sports are to some degree but the more I don't know the more team oriented sports word you know there's a lot of trade you grew up with guys in juniors you played with them against them and in June is an awful lot of international play that happens before you become a pro so these guys have relationships you know they've they've known each other for a long time and the hockey families a very tight one and the respect for the former player like the Keith Tkachuk and al MacInnis is definitely real and lasting so it's not just for kids I think the all star games in general are for kids and I think it's good that way I think it's that we don't do enough for kids in terms of what they charge and how late the games are on and you know the kind of ignore the kids a lot more than they used to in terms of marketing but the all star games are great for kids because they like to show and they don't need the competition like we do you know we want more competition we don't need as much show let's talk radio listeners are not that concerned about who the halftime show is it's just not our gig you know we want we want my homes versus Bosa that's what we want but is one that but they also want Steph curry shoot as many threes as a cannon thirty seconds or is Connor McDavid faster than Matt bars all or not you know they want that they want that and they love that and it makes some fans of the game so it really does have a great place if you market it that way as if it really is something for adults to eavesdrop on and kids to watch that's really what I would marketed as if I was these leagues I would find a way to actually it's basically say that kids want to adults eavesdrop on it go ahead look at it if you want to but I guess that wouldn't go over great with advertisers that you were admitting that you were trying to play to the kids so everything has a cabbie out right everything has a loophole you can't admit things because of that you say that then you're climb you don't want an older audience to get on an older audience there more consumers kids can't buy anything they need their parents to buy it and etcetera etcetera etcetera so not as easy as I'd like to make but I do think that all star games in general our waste of time except if your kid and then there are a lot of fun there's no downside if your kid is not in fact know once your expectations and you're not like all this is like a real game you're not sitting there saying that if you're twelve years old the one that I have the best memory of for myself for the ones that I watch when I was a kid sure I don't read the one the last fifteen years I can tell you anything would happen in any all star game well but when I was ten eleven twelve and I remember it was at the garden one year in there I think was the year the Rangers won the cop and Richter was it you know that that was a a really fun all star game and was your ray Bork like wood for from four in that it it I was a kid with all that stuff and I had the year they did the glow pock on fox right I mean I was fifteen or sixteen year old when that happened right the first time they busted that out I mean but in the last fifteen years living our members of a guy got hurt like on my team yeah DPH or got hurt in the all star game you know you remember that right no remember what actually happens in the game no and they're and they're fleeting in their advertising you know they're they're just advertising for the game like this one some of our guys can do and watch them try to stop each other from doing it on our regular season but watch how how good they really are here when they're not competing in a in a real manner just just showing their talent and how they got here and there's nothing bad about that and there's no reason to be upset about it you know people get upset about how many bowl games there are or how non competitive the all star game is stop it's just not you know that's not what it's there for not supposed to be competitive it's not supposed to be like the real game supposed to be entertainment it's supposed to be a show it's like an extended halftime that starts at the beginning of the game it ends at the end of the game the whole thing is a halftime show so NHL all star game this weekend you can watch that you got the golf you got a lot of college basketball our boys it's been fun I also will work together again here said we rally rafia thank you Michael it's always been great and we wish you tremendous success along.

"As the kind of Fan I am. I don't WanNa say that all fans are like me but it's the kind of Fan I am. I would rather have zero public appearances from the players. Zero interesting social media engagement from the players Zero Radio Interviews Television appearances or anything like bat and fifty wins a year and Stanley Cup. Banner in the wrath. I would too. Yeah I'm out with you. Yeah I think that's I think I think that is the influence the todd McClellan is going to bring and my only concern is that it seems like it had to becoming like that it wouldn't come from management that it that management had to hire a coach to sort of do it for them at least that's my perspective. I I don't know that's my only concern because ultimately todd McLellan won't be head coach. Any right that's just the nature of the brand. Yeah yeah so what Hap- so then when McClellan leaves if he takes his locus of control with him then we're just back to where we were last. We're back to Willie Jordan. Well who knows I mean I don't think Stevens was much better than Zardan. Frankly I mean I get it the numbers against me on this one right. The players didn't like Jordan fans didn't like Jordan. Everybody from Vancouver doesn't like discharge and I get it right like at some point. The consensus is against me. I still say we don't know what he was hired to do right. We don't know what he was told right. He came in. He came on board a sinking ship. And then everybody started throwing sieff at him because he couldn't stop and they may have just told him get us through the year would she did right. We're not going to give you a whole lot to work. Yeah you kind of handcuffed nothing. I would argue here. Here's Carl Haglund. Glenn goes sick. Just coach. The here's Nikita. Sure back and Brendan Leipzig Spin Gold. Willie like all right. Sure make it work. Maybe anyway. Let's do the play of the game and the player the player of the play of the game. The ALEXAI follow Power play goal. You Agree Yeah Not Synonymous Dan Player of the game has to be from the king's no remember this. I mean remember. I've said that when we started doing player the game can be whoever you want. A member of the ice crew could be a member of the media. Could Be Bailey could be you know daily. Had A good game check be Cotton Candy Guy. I can't candy guy was fantastic tonight. John Candy no he was killing it all right. Dj Vic one. Oh it's an open his boom. Oh you know who. I'm going to say the player. It was the rule due to rule. Did our wars Hashtag did. His job did more than his job. Dida rule brings it every night player of the game. Oh still say it's Alexai fall. I like Romagnoli so you thought he had a good game. I thought Brennan Smith Play Your game for them. A thought Name escapes me. Right now Those two guys really stood out for me for Nashville and and Perini was pretty good. Although he wasn't tested on I'll still say it's Alex Life Goals from the right point shots on goal so look the team has a couple more games on this homestand. We got what Columbus Monday. Dallas Wednesday is yeah Columbus Monday Alison Thirty Monday seven wins and then Vegas Thursday back to back in Vegas up and then Carolina on the road and I don't know what games in January okay I think. We've it's four four. Yeah not a lot acres hardcourts you get the All star break in there. Yeah and although we'll have two more opportunities entities to pump this the all star game the Ahl Surrogate yes in Ontario Ontario Yours. Truly we'll be calling and I will be sitting there watching it. Damn right right I mean I think I love going. Come the skills competition. I don't know you should I want to should. Here's the thing is having this conversation with two different people tonight about the All Star game the NHL. Balser got to Redo that whole thing. By the way I feel compelled to watch it. 'cause they got to Redo that whole thing. I agree and I'm going going to be a curmudgeonly old man here but I don't think I'm wrong. There's some times where I turned into like a crank and I have this probably just me I actually. I think I'm right on this one. Sports sports are dumb right. That's fine but one of the really nice these things about sports that sets it apart from TV shows or pop music or starbucks or any other thing that you experience on a regular basis in your life is ritual right. Everybody like my dad and I would go to the game for twenty twenty something years and we had a routine right park and basically the same spot he would wear shorts. I would wear a jacket with pockets. Doc It's so I'd have to put his coke in my pocket because he doesn't like the coke that they sell at the arena. Keys would go here at a data. Today we sat in the same spots we need the same thing team wore the same jersey. Chrissy David blanking on David's name. Courtney David Courtney on the Bob Miller calling the game Nixon on the radio you know. Oh Dita rule eternally on the Oregon you know for the last seven years Pizza Scotto singing the national anthem. Like ritual J. flats working the crowd absolutely right ritual somewhere in the late ninety s and I confessed that this makes me sound like an old man because I'm basically saying everything was cool when I was a teenager as soon as I started to get started to suck but at some point early in Gary Bettman's tenure as commissioner and. This is why he gets booed like people who don't understand why Gary Bettman gets booed this mcdonagh explain the joke to you and he's in on it and I appreciate Gary. Bettman came in and realized that the only people who cared about his sport were a few million people in Canada and a few million people from Minnesota and a few million people Who had moved from Canada throughout the country and so they had to start making changes to grow the game and I'm glad for a lot of them but one of the ones I really never liked was was changing the All Star game and one of the reasons I like the All Star game in one of the reasons as dumb as the All Star game is is boring as the All Star game always always will be one of the Nice things about the All Star game is in the early nineties and before the eighties? Whatever you would have one game a year where you'd go? Oh my gosh what if Wayne Gretzky and Brett Hull played on the same team. What if Team USA Lonnie Paul Korea were on the same line? and Had ED AL macinnis as their defenseman and it and you got one game three periods twenty minutes where nobody played any defense and you could just imagine these great great players playing together and then somebody decided on. This is boring. Nobody likes so. Let's make it cool. Let's fix it and they got rid of that and all of a sudden it was. USA versus the world which appeals to an American audience. Because I'm sorry I'm going to insult a bunch of people listening right now at sorry. This is a hundred percent. The bias of being born in Canada and raised by a candidate centric person American media and commercial interests have a way of stripping the things that make something unique away away and just turning it into a mass produced simplistic dumb version of itself and North North America versus. The world is just what's even are you talking about all of a sudden you had an all star game where it was like. What if Yaroslava modry? He was on the Blue Line A lot. And listen I like ours love mode Works for the Kings. I get fired for Santa's but you're motoring made the All Star game all of a sudden where it used to be like. Okay Okay One guy from every team because now we have so many teams and then it became like now North America versus the world. And you have a team. That's not very good. We have to send one guy and so that's your guy you're just like all right so now it's a one nothing game and there's a bunch of guys that just aren't all stars stars because every team has to have one guy and it's not like it's and twenty thirty years of cool jerseys perdition ritual all of a sudden or and imagination waken in and that's again the imagination went out the window and then of course. Predictably it's boring. Nobody cares because you can't fix something that was that is broken in its concept so they change it they change it to. They put in the draft. which for the first year or two is great? It's great fun. Oh look who's GonNa pay but after two or three years the the novelty wears off and now you're just sitting around waiting for call me. And then they bring in the three on three and the first year it was like okay right. Just go back to having two teams play a boring three period game. Let us pretend. I'll wouldn't it. Be Great if Taylor Hall played on a line with Phil Castle and then the trade happens you know like now and guess what. It's going to be boring hiring you can't you can't fix it. All Star Games are exhibitions exhibitions or both the pro bowl is boring yeah the NBA. All Star game is Major League Baseball. All Star game is boring. I mean home field advantage in the world series. Who Cares essentially right? Yeah I agree I just think there has to be. It's Scott. It's gone way off where it should end these things with the the skills competition and guys having a flip pucks up through different like they. They never do that in a game. Now you're asking them to do that here. I remember jude out trying to shoot pucks over the over. The Oh we'll he doesn't do that. That's not his thing but he asked him to put you ask them to throw sauce on stick from halfway across the ice. He'll do it every time but you ask them to do that. An All star game with like like it's not. It's not their thing. Yeah so I think they have to go back to square one and reinvent what they tried to reinvent. And just be fine again this Michael Messier. Just be fine with what it is right. It's further sponsors an exhibition and it's for the fans of whatever that's city is yeah and.

So it's been fun fun. Lots of traveling. So what about New Year's then you're going to bring it in and motor city. No I'M GONNA head home all Mir soon and Spending time with Shantelle my daughter. Turn okay perfect all right. This guy is a grinder. He's out there scouting adding we're talking. What are these college kids? All cost-free engines my friends all calls from friends and you don't know about JBC. Hey you know what it's about to be my year. You've Oh you've called me this probably for about ten years now and it's finally going to be my your twenty twenty is gonNa be special especially here but you should know I'm proud of yeah. What's the year of Martin? kilcoyne twenty twenty. What what's the hockey equivalent? Five hundred live or I mean I don't know that's a way twenty twenty I didn't know there is no club in such high regard. That's why That's why we love you buddy twenty twenty On Twenty Points Twenty rebounds all Yup by twenty down by twenty. It's like when you gotta lean like since the one down six months that's when you lead the guys like Oh you play. Did you guys probably not at the NHL level maybe a little bit but that are sort of the lower end players and they kind of know when it's tight game that they're just not getting back out there. Yeah he had as those guys I want to name names but You know those guys Get Nice seat on the bench Up there and coaches holidays a let's not bury the lead. The All Star game is in Saint. Louis this is pretty cool. Matthew could shock will be in the All Star game in a building he used to go to as a little kid. I can only imagine how excited you in Shantelle our or we are. I'm proud of mouth you you know. He's got a good year this year. You know especially getting the camp. Wait you know and and to be able to play in the first all star game which is is a big thrill I know for him and and then especially doing it in his hometown an Arinc that he grew up going to games and being that kid and you know Being a fan of the game. I'm proud of him. I I know he's ecstatic. Doing kind of family and friends is going to be even more special. Did you guys talk about it last summer. At all it's a hey we know that games here you got a shot. I mean how much was it even on your radar. You know it wasn't because it's it's you I never know it's so hard to do You know and and you don't think about that. I thought if you know team I skin in the game you know. Get get your season going and get your team in the playoffs and this is just a a bonus and you know it's you know we don't talk about stuff like that. So the All Star Game Saint Louis. Some folks won't be here Alexander Ovechkin and there is a movement in the league. Say Listen I need the time off. I need to skip a couple of days even if I get it stinks for the league I understand. Why a player especially somebody who's been in the League along time how? `Bout a as a former player. How do you feel about that guy's opting out of the game well? I don't think those guys do it consistently every year. They're trying to grow the game and I understand he's tired. Alex is a big player on the shell for a long time. I'm and he's you know getting older. And you know these promoted the game really well and you know if he wants to take off for me. How can you complain about that? I mean you know. It's like a scene in Saint Louis but at the end the hand you know you understand. He's played a long-time above for you. When you got those calls to the All star the game what did what did it mean to play at? That level is any part of you when you make that moment any part of you reflect on. Hey I was a kid and I wanted to make it. I wanted to be uh-huh and all star and it's you know it's it means a lot it really does it means. He's a lot to to get selected. Chosen you're in the League company with Guys at some of the guys to grow watching and have an opportunity to get skate on the same ice. It'd be in the locker. Those guys is a big thrill. No fresh why do I picture you returning your luggage right now. Maybe the car rental are you at the airport court. Yeah I just got here. Sorry no I. This is the beauty of hanging with big well. You never know what's going to happen. He's got to return his car. Got To get on an airplane. What about the buzz in Saint Louis your hometown now? Having the All Star game having been intended Petro O'Reilly in this game just the franchise I said this many times on radioside. It seemed like they always had bad luck and bad breaks and now everything is going their way like the brand is on fire right now in this city. It's great I mean. Let me saw when I watched it was unbelievable and stuff to see guys like a Riley who come over and that's been here forever You know it hasn't been in a year ago this time with American arguably in different organization so I see do maybe So I think it's awesome. I can't wait guys. Refer franchise the how to do it. So there's no question in my mind that will do it right all right. We'll call this an abbreviated version of hanging with big walls and just just a thought quickly on the blues. Forty Games in they played forty games. Only eight of those games ended with a loss in regulation so they either won. We are lost in overtime. And that's pretty remarkable the run they've been on. I lost you there for a SEC. Twenty Twenty repeat down insure useless questioning and the future hanging with big wall will just be you abusing me the whole time the blues. Who Played Forty Games and they've only Eight times in regulation so that means forty times. They played thirty. Two of those games. Either want it or extended in lost in overtime or shootout. They've won eight Interro at this point as we talk. It's pretty remarkable what they've been able to do. How do you think they? Stainless I think that whole playoff round and finding ways to win and Learning how to do that consistent basis as help them knowing every game no matter. If you're up you're down your back against the wall and the road record. We had last year in the playoff movie credible and that added on with chiefs coaching style. You know although respecting half Rehab and the respect excellent player and everything just together and and and that's an incredible record. I I can't believe that record. I mean eight regulation officers. I mean that's on vertical Urnov right now and loy variously teams that do that and to be able to learn how to win like Alan and seeing the guys acid Sassaman just helps everybody bring in the new players. They think it's a lot of fun. We're going to do a quick break. One final thought from big wall when we continue three two in one arm. Walter always doing a friend Brenda walled or a former teammate. I WANNA bring McKenna's who you played with because Alex betraying slow moving up the charts moving past chopper and some of these career milestones with the blues. Take us back back. Alleys a teammate. Certainly now alison executive with the Blues. When I mentioned Al Macinnis what comes to mind all the SPEC being Offi is what well he brings on how he carried so And then you go on the ice and the career yet obviously a hall of fame by Great Guy Alarm from hasn't flair and When I got a chance to players in Seattle hardy works see how he played the game holidays? Intelligent he was and you know the new that for that many years ears is incredible statement to you know his preparation and I think that's in Trimble active and stuff you know from this ranch is and for him to be here. You know giving back and hoping I'll gosling tetreault and radio and even guys who want even plan in here anymore. I mean. He's a great singer whose law respecting great human being. And how often were you in the line of you ever get drilled by one of those slap shots during a game. No I'm smart. I usually get out of the way when I was planning on some ideal for mango birth. Control this sharp. He doesn't not like some of these guys nowadays. Shoot you know and I have no idea where it's going on your lawn so we never in jeopardy unless he got deflecting some before I would think if I was on the other team mm-hmm I saw Al Hockey guys are tough. I see him wind and getting ready to fire. I'm sorry I'm getting out of the way but that's me. Yeah you're you know you're ABC Miroslav the big old. You gotTA travel. We appreciate checking in with you hanging with big wall to have a great twenty twenty. What will we be a little toasting tonight with the family? It sounds like a low key night. I don't picture you play board games around the fire but it sounds low key. Yeah probably being on the call. The Night I've been traveling away too much. Twenty twenty four happy. Nobody's happy new. That's the Great Keith Kachuck..

"The rear. View mirror. You know, we're having a good time. Brian McCain and Matt Casey on the other side of the glass. Wayne coffee, noted author will join us this hour talk to him about his book on the sixty nine Mets and really interesting stuff that and many meta later in the program on the jets draft what to expect there. We finally get the draft day Yanks with their injuries trying to get over five hundred packs and as well tomorrow, they probably will get over five hundred but then a nine game road trip and a really really depleted team. Based on the injuries flexing got bombed today for the Mets, and they sent him down and the nets, of course, losing this afternoon in Brooklyn one twelve one eight so not great news with judge getting hurt. Yanks, you know, the answer back to five hundred but they've had a very easy schedule. And haven't been able to take advantage of it for a variety of reasons most notably the injuries, and as we know and as we've said so many times the season is head of them. And I could say that a month from now and probably two months from now saying exactly the same thing that the season is ahead of them regardless of how they play between now. And then they'll never I don't think they'll ever be bad enough to fall out of it before, you know, July whatever, and I certainly don't think they'll have cemented anything by July. So these games are fun to watch. And I enjoy watching them, but their meaning is up to interpretation for sure because whether you want to believe it or not. You can always look back on these games. But the odds are you won't. In other words. There's when they're sixty games remaining. That's so many games that opportunity will be there. Like, I'm getting ready to talk the wing cough. You know, waiting coffee among the things about that sixty nine season. That's so impressive. Is that the Mets went thirty eight eleven the closed that season thirty eight and eleven. Now, obviously that's an anomaly, but the point is it's possible. So. Awful lot of baseball to be played even two months from now there will be an awful lot of baseball to be played. And it's important to keep that in mind Thomas Illinois up next on the fan. Hi thomas. Hi, Chris can put think out. I gotta weigh in on this workout topic. It's a great topic. I'm surprised it's not many more. But I did want to people frustrated I think it's not mentioned very much because people don't know what to say, they're like the professionals trying to fix it. Nobody's able to fix. It. Guys are getting hurt all the time. Well, that was that was gonna be my point short on this one is the guy I followed. Everyone is different. When he does we search on backs. Chris he goes to a slaughterhouse and gets a hundred and fifty fine fund a pick because they're all exactly the same. And if he tells you to do ten dogs and you'll do twenty well, then you're not going to get better right now. The main thing I wanted to ask you about what I want to play the game with you on this. Okay. I really wanna know your reasoning on the difference seems to be different. You Paul the masters that they don't charge six dollars for water yet you seem to cast cast. I the NHL when they go six minutes out of time out in commercial. When did I say that? Why would I care about how long they without a commercial? What are what are you trying to say? Well, I I think there seems to be good while you always seem to be done on the NHL NHL because they don't they don't promote their stars number one. And number two number two. Although although Brian made a good point to me about the fact that Crosby has one a lot lately. And Ovechkin won last year. There seems to be a latte like like Brian James has never losing four nothing in a playoff series. But Crosby just did to an island or team. That is not great is good. But not great those things don't happen in other sports. Most of the time when you have great players they make a difference in the NHL, you're able to negate those great players to easily for me. That's what I don't like about it. It is a complete crap shoot. When you go to the playoffs. And if I'm in NHL fan, I think that's great that everybody has. To earn it. But on the other hand, it's very difficult to promote stars. When you don't need them the win. They don't matter in the postseason a lot of the time. Okay. Sorry. No. No, no. That's why I called them because it seemed to be a, well, you know, the NHL they're more of a competition and in entertainment sports. Oh, absolutely. They are okay. And that's better for the sports fan. I mean, it's better. But there's so many people who are fringe fans of the other sports who are not fringe fans of hockey because they don't know anybody, and there's no more Mariel amuse anymore. There's no four hundred goals in a season. There's no hundred point defensemen. You know, it's not rai- board, and Al MacInnis and Paul Coffey. Those days are gone. It's a much quieter competitive two one three two league. And it's harder to to jump on. That problem. We. Part of the reason we'd never embraced soccer. Not enough scoring not enough stars people. Excellent. Yeah. Excellent. Well, my I actually said that if you sit this you once before the third fourth point players are so good now that they can shut down two stars day after nine salute that they can get in the ring any bigger, right? The ranks of the saints is always been all right, man. All you go. That's good conversation. There's no doubt. You know, there's no doubt that. You know that? The rank is small for today's players, and you can you can look back and see easily enough the average size of the NHL player in one thousand nine hundred seventy five or eighty as compared to the average size of the NHL players today. And with the rink the same size. There should be. There should be a correlation with lower score. And there is and obviously the goal is so much more athletic now, so much more of a complete athlete than back in the day. Kevin montvale New Jersey next on the fan. I Kevin how you doing good? What's I get a little bit into the? The strengthening dishing injury. So and so forth every talking about the four major sports every sport shoot app strength and conditioning as part of their program, and they do yes, they won't saying is it was one call that said that, you know, baseball players are, you know, Doug doing too much and that's causing injury. Here's what one of the biggest problems is what one of the biggest problems are as far as injury prevention and strengthening conditioning, number one is obviously should be switched is in many cases, position specific and more importantly players to civic, and but professional leagues believe it or not are resistant to change, and they are behind the most modern and state of the art techniques that are available today. And and if they would embrace those rather than resist those there's always going to be injuries. There is no question. About that. But I think that would be less if they would embrace the state of the art techniques that are out there today that they are resisting. And are you are you involved in training? Legitimation of professional athletes in my family and very close to a lot of state of the art trainers conditioners, and people that are now working on. Better message for the cure of the cure or the quicker concussions and re reducing the symptoms in a much quicker method. I am part of that. And I'm beginning foundation that that is is is going to get involved with that. But I don't wanna get into me. I'm just talking about knowing professionalize the athletics. Like, I do a lot of these people are using methods. I don't wanna say are. But there'd be hind the time. Yeah. Thanksgiving, I appreciate the phone call I have questions about how much rest is really proper how how much time should they actually be off? And then the length of the workout when they do have it. What should that be like? And do they take enough time off and the other question? I have is. Let's talk about what kind of damage can be done. Before you get the advice at the major league level as a fifteen year old to twenty year old athlete. Who've maybe not getting the best advice. How much carryover is there from that lifestyle and work out too? When you become a professional athlete, I wonder about questions like that Wayne coffee around the corner, we've talked Mets baseball on.
"al macinnis" Discussed on The Tim McKernan Show
"He is our presenting sponsor of our guests this week. Jay williamson. The reason I started off with the PGA championship because the morning of the final round they weren't letting media out onto the range. And I don't know what happened finally at the end some guy was really protesting, and then security goes, okay, fine. Because it was their only like the final four groups are out there. And so I was like oh sweet. I'm going to go out there. And at that point the final four groups. I mean, it was star studded, and I wind up standing next to Al MacInnis, and it's just me and Al members well there, and we're just be asking about golfing, obviously, he's super into it too. And we're talking and I. I mean, it's just totally golf nerd conversation. I you know, I just had I played with I played golf with Marcus Allen the day before love et guys really name. And I said I'm curious especially with having one of the most signature shots in the history of the NHL, especially with the speed that he could strike the puck. I said, do you think if you had grown up in only focused on golf as opposed to hockey that you could have done this because I said, I had Marcus Allen and Marcus Allen sitting where you were Jay. And I said, do you think if you would've not focused on football, and he played a lot of baseball two, and you folks golf as a young man, if you could have played golf and Marcus thought that he could have al-said he goes, I don't think so I think these guys were to another level Marcus is a hell of an athlete, and so maybe he could have he goes. But I don't think I could take my skill set that I had grown up in Canada. And then just automatically if I would have focused on golf in golfer, which then leads me to you and your ability and. Whether or not you think people can learn the game, or if it's just their certain gifts, genetically that people have that make them excel like some of these guys right now that we see bombing at great grandmother different equipment than what we were seeing even twenty years ago. But that's what I'm curious about when guys start out or they just kind of like a guy can throw ninety five miles an hour, or he can't or something that somebody who's an athlete can find tune get to that level. You know, it's a really good question. And I and I want what I want to say is that you don't have to be born to be a champion golfer. I want to say that. But the way the game has trended, and the fact that in my opinion, those that govern the game. I don't want to mention any names. I think they've lost about leadership. You don't players leadership. I think I think I think the the golf ball has exploded. I think the golf ball more than anything has changed the game. And I think. That those that have watched the game haven't necessarily reacted quick enough. You know, they tried to out long outlawed the long putter. I I understand why they did that I think that was more optics because they didn't want it on TV in the Olympics. But I I in my opinion that isn't what has changed the game. Now is it a bad oct- optic to watch guy? Putt with a long putter. Yeah. Probably it's not the most athletic thing. But that isn't what has changed the game. What has changed the game? Is that better athletes are actually playing it now versus fifteen twenty years ago and a lot of that was because Tiger Woods. But also the darn golf ball goes so far that a lot of the quick are real they become obsolete. And so, you know, you've had to go back in and change them dramatically. Adnew tease. You do a lot of things we're in reality. What needs to be done is the fairways need to be as wide as that water, you know, s escort parked out. How that changes how that changes the game when you actually have to be more accurate versus how long you can actually hit the golf ball. So you know, I think that the golf ball in. And it's I think it's almost too late today. You know, the only way that something's going to happen is if the guys show up at Augusta National and when they register their handed a ball, and that's the ball that they can use. And that's the only way that this is the the the golf ball is going to be regulated. Because I don't think that you can go in today and say all right now, we, you know, we we're going to take the ball back to where it was you know, ten years ago. Right. So that's a long winded answer to basically say that the game has changed so much in the last ten years since actually about when I stopped playing on the regular tour that now it's definitely just the power game in. It's how far you can actually move it out there. It doesn't really matter. How straight you hit it. And that was on full display at the Ryder Cup last year. Speaking of that again in Paris, whether Europeans figured out how to hit the ball in the fairway and the Americans didn't. Yeah. And there was some question were you questioning that at all just going into it? I'm curious on that that the the team selection, and I realize these are the best players, and then you had some captain's picks that it wasn't necessarily ideal for the American team considering that course, and then who the American roster was made up of as far as accuracy off the tee, and it could leave them vulnerable as we saw play out. So it wasn't necessarily a second. Guess people. Are wondering that going on armchair quarterback? I didn't give it much thought before. Because I quite honestly, I had never been to. That course in person. I didn't realize the makeup of it. But I would I would say that it's a lot easier to make that statement afterwards than it was before. But there's no question that that when
