The announcement came as some state governors air critic criticizing the rollout of the cove in 19 vaccine. White House press secretary Jen fans, Saskia, Our focus is not just on the supply. That's part of the issue. It is also about ensuring that states have the number of vaccinators they need. What's Ahead For The Economy In 2021?

"We have a brand new year which begins with the very same economy that we had yesterday. What are the trend lines for. Twenty twenty one. Npr chief economic correspondent. Scott horsely joins us scott happy new year. Happy used so would up. Yeah yeah there. We begin the year with vaccines being distributed. Not as quickly as expected but millions of shots are out there. What's that do for the economy will it. It does mean things are looking up. the folks of the federal reserve. Now say they think the us economy is gonna grow more than four percent in twenty twenty one they think by the end of this year unemployment will have fallen from six point seven percent now to around five percent. Both those forecasts are rosier than what the fed was expecting just a few months ago There was also a survey by the national association for business economics that finds growing optimism nearly three out of four business. Economists surveyed think the economy will have regained all the ground. It lost twenty twenty sometime by the second half of this coming year. The second half of this coming year but in this first half. That's beginning. We clearly still don't have a handle on the pandemic now. I mean we're still losing more than three thousand people every day in this country. We've lost more than three hundred. Forty thousand americans so far to the virus. That's an enormous. That's an enormous human as well as economic loss and because so many people are still getting sick Seeing more restrictions imposed on in-person businesses consumers themselves are also getting more careful about going out and shopping and spending money. We also know now that there's a new variation of the virus here in the us that appears to spread more easily and that could lead to more restrictions still it is encouraging that we have these highly effective vaccines. That were developed at warp speed. But so far the shots are getting out there At a much slower speed more like a local subway You know president-elect. Joe biden has had a goal of delivering one hundred million shots in his first hundred days in office right now. We're doing about two hundred thousand so unless there's a sharp acceleration a two hundred thousand a day. Excuse me yeah so it's gonna take a really sharp acceleration too to get anywhere close to the kind of speed that that biden talking about. In the meantime public health officials say it's even more important that people keep wearing their face masks keep their distance rather people and keep washing their hands so this becomes the critical factor for many businesses. If you're working in the restaurant industry if you're running a movie theater if you work in the airlines anything like that you've got hazards ahead. Other parts of the economy. I guess would be less affected. Just as was the case in twenty twenty. That's right is this has been a really uneven Recession and a really uneven recovery both for individuals and for whole industries people who can work from home and have a job that's in demand Might be doing just fine A lot of factories now to near pre pandemic levels. They've been able to keep their workers spaced out and they're making products that people are buying consumers are actually buying a lot of stuff right now. In some cases they're spending more on Goods because they can't spend money on services like eating out or travelling or going to concerts. service businesses though and the people who work in those industries that think the people that the businesses that depend on bringing people together. They're still suffering We could however see a fairly rapid turnaround services once people actually feel safe going out in crowds again during the hunker down. Some people have actually managed to put some money. Aside and that pent up demand could come unpacked once the virus under control. where's the stock market at. It has been a wild ride We had a gut wrenching plunged during the spring of twenty twenty when the pandemic i took hold in the us but since that time stocks have made up all the lost ground and then some that al jones industrial average closed yesterday at a record high. It was up more than seven percent from the beginning of two thousand twenty. The s p five hundred grew more than sixteen percent last year. Some of that was driven by big technology. Stocks that profited from are stay at home. Lifestyles during the pandemic netflix amazon. For example but some of the recent gains have also come from more consumer stocks and even beaten down industries like cruise ships so investors are betting that the worst is now behind us and twenty twenty one will be brighter. Let's hope that's true the broader economy as well

A racing snake is teri woken us to say so hours. I'm they're kind of bright red toughing sweating and i'll look and i'll go one day i might be like that but Yeah not the moment. And that's why can't go in and out you know that's why i don't hang around and do the weights and everything. Not that i go in. I'd run for a little bit. Maybe for twenty minutes. And then i will get on that bike it for half an hour forty minutes and then i'm gone done and i kind of like just slipping in and out ready but i'm then getting the most out of as well if you do all that you must have made your lactic acid builds up in your thighs afterwards. Go to do half are fast on the bike. After a run. I get a bit like john wayne used to walk especially for the first week. Honestly i didn't think i could manage to get to the lou. Was that painful. But i i like that you see. I love that feeling of you. Feel that you've really achieved something you know. It's that sort of sweaty t shirt thing that you think yup. It's obviously doing me some good. If i'm sweating this much is that thing. Isn't it the day after when you speak. Sometimes you're like. I really can't even sit down with a hurting i've to fall into a chair because it's easier than actually sitting down slowly and then going downstairs. It's just awful however deep down. I like it because it shows me to. It's working absolutely i do. I love it. And i'm just so glad that i found because i as i said earlier. I don't really didn't use to really like gyms because of the whole thing that everyone's looking at you and and you always feel unworthy. Somehow you have your of your badge to be whereas now. I've found something i can do that. You know is it doesn't take long and also i i feel the benefit from it. It's getting stupid. Because i can lose weight really quickly but i can put the on really quickly as well now. I haven't really done anything you know from working out. Maybe four times a week for the last week in a bit with workers while his his excuse time a with an album and stuff you know. I haven't had that chance to to do anything properly. And i feel worse for you. Know i feel like i'm white and and yeah it's it's it's it's audrey and i really want to get back and and get back to how it was before not long to wait..

CEO Let's talk a little bit about your theme this year it's called what's next why what's next and what is next so what's next is that so we're looking for faster growth in the future then in the past and but what's next is the growth the economy goes for the stock market what do you mean economy and and what I think is that when you think about the turmoil that's taking place in the stock market now and everyone is afraid that's you know and people have higher amounts of cash and they've ever had before in Europe they have negative interest rates people so concerned is eighteen central banks can in Rio do there The interesting United States are have been going down the way I think about it though is that the stock market today is pretty much the same values nations that it was in one thousand nine hundred eighty nine and sixteen point six times earnings or sixteen point five times earnings then then was amidst turmoil you had the city's on fire the national guard the streets are trying to keep law and order yet the Vietnam War protests women's rights protesting so so everything was it's a mess but but really sticks and the assassination of President Kennedy swapping my office about I have a lot of younger people mouse and they said tell me about this assignations sixties and people said well John Kennedy said anyone else and they said I don't know it was Martin Luther King in one thousand nine six eight and Robert Kennedy Nineteen Sixty eight they tried to get George awesome so so there was turmoil and it was a concern that that the country was going to survive but the stock market then was thousands on Al Jones is now twenty six or twenty seven thousand twenty six times the economy then was eight hundred and fifty billion is now twenty one point three trillion twenty five times so all you had to do this believe that this country was going to survive and invest then and you would have made twenty five hundred money and so I think that what's going to happen in the next fifty years of course I'll be one hundred twenty six by then and you can reach me at Barron Funds Dot Com they will know where uh-huh and but but I'm thinking about the next the next fifty years it's going to be similar to the last fifty years that'd be twenty five times or money if you invest now and and and even better is that interest rates today or one and a half percent one point six percent for ten years they're normally four and a half percent for ten years you have platform investments now so it used to be when I was young and you wanted to make money you'd build a factory for a million dollars or hotel and then maybe eight hundred thousand one hundred fifty thousand after you take the risk of putting up a million and so but now you've you've come into capital late business you have technology I therefore other people giving you money writing off have platform built you could be a licensor people could be using your business in the cloud and then all of a sudden you start getting revenues and that revenue you just seventy eighty ninety percent margin that's worth more than a earnings per share company without having put up the capital people finding some of these two so you can do it exactly so it's capital low interest rates the technology technology is making businesses grow faster because and and also it's it's making your costs be lower and then knowledge knowledge is growing the fastest pace than it's ever grown and it used to be one hundred years ago that knowledge doubled every hundred years and then after World War Two it was twenty five years and now it's every eighteen months and with the Internet of things going knowledge is going to double according to IBM every eight hours or twelve hours knowledge humankind but when when you look at our growth that we've seen to this point a lot of people say our economy is just stuck in a slower growth economy we're never going to be able to grow faster pace we've seen it pick up a little bit over the last several you ears but why isn't reflected in the numbers why isn't the economic growth stronger because you're right information technology all of these different ways of increasing our productivity are it's not reflected in government numbers right now people are afraid well you're in one of these the economy doesn't go like this it goes like this and and so the result to that whenever goes down people say this is it this is the end I better get out and so all these people watch remote show in the morning and everyone talks about well the stock market invested

"What your ex boyfriend is doing? Yes. Does Justin think I'm cool. Of course. That's a lie. So that's them having fun on the new season of carpool karaoke. And of course, the, you know, the punch line there is that Justin Bieber apparently doesn't think KENDALL is cool. Awkward. Bothered by. No, I confess I did not realize that those two ladies were buddies at all even in the I share like boys or something. There's a connection there. I feel like we have talked about at some point. I feel like the Kardashian jenner's go to the same church. Baldwin and Justin Bieber. Dad grew because I also know that Justin Bieber. Remember Justin Bieber was rumored to have been having a tryst with. Courtney courtesy. Oh, sure. Every young man. Yeah. That was famous right? All of the cetera because she's clinging to her youth right by clinging to young men. I did want to say in the rest of the trailer. And again, this is just the first piece of the trailer for the new season of carpool karaoke. I don't remember. I'm just trying to see if the date looks like. Ooh, I don't know when the whole series premieres butts in the trailer, there are some really fun things happening. So you've got people that I mean the Muppets are singing with Jason's today. 'cause I'm not sure why those two go together was he in the muppet movie? I don't know anyway, Jon, Hamm et cetera. And it looks like a lot of fun. So I did not realize this was on the apple TV. You've got apple TV, you can watch this for free as it's avail hearings to that they have in. There is Rashid Al Jones with her father Quincy Jones, which is. I mean, again, that's one thing. I think I appreciate about this format is it does put some people together that you maybe had wanted to see together in a casual way like soup dog. And Matthew mcconaughey who doesn't wanna see that? Right. Probably not. I that one looked weird. He looked kind of Matthew, mcconaughey. Looked kind of like he needed a shower, which I think is sort of has always luck. Yeah..

"Whereas if you just let them go out there and just avoid the media without finding them, we'd never know. Well, again, if you had a Commissioner who made a decent amount of money, yes, you could get him to. He's trying to shoestring budget. I understand it understand. The NFL wants to be open to the press and they want the coverage and whether the player says, yes, yes, yes or no, no, no doesn't matter because you're going to still have some players that are to say more than that, and they, they're open to the press. And that's what they want. They want the coverage. They were all buddy buddy. We're all getting along, but the point of making you do that and not making not Neal is tremendous because the same.
