"Encouraging, I mean, that doesn't always mean that all of those teams are full of great prospects who will go on to make the major league teams good. But it can't hurt and certainly in the race case. There's just a ton of young talent. I don't know. Anything else that you're all interested in about the race this year, I guess we don't have to worry about the two team Montreal plan anymore. We don't have to talk about that in the short term. Did we ever need to talk about it? Was it ever real? No, probably not. I am curious to see what their stadium situation ends up resolving as because I think we've heard the last of that to city idea for now, but I don't think that they're content with the trap. So I am curious kind of what goes on there. Yep. What do you make of the fact that they were reportedly in on Freddy Friedman for an actual 9 figure contract? I don't know if it's just wishful thinking or not, but the fact that the rays are so good, like in June, in July, could they go out and actually add some money to this peril, probably not given their history, but the freed men news kind of threw me for a loop just because I wouldn't have expected them to be in on someone for a multiyear deal for that much money at all, but Freeman is so talented and he would fit or he would have. I should say fit so well in the middle of this lineup because for all its depth besides wander and branded Lao right, it's loud not low. They don't necessarily have that big guy in the middle of the order who's going to hit 30 plus home runs. And I just wondered, disrespect Mike zen, you know, like that on this podcast. Is he in the middle of the order? I thought he was the bottom of the order. He sure shouldn't be in the middle of the order, but he will hit 30 home runs. And for as much as I love, like G man Choi, he's not that kind of player. So is there the potential that they could add some what they traded Joe Ryan a very good prospect for Nelson Cruz. At last year's deadline, so if they're a little bit more aggressive, what does that look like? And I would encourage it because this race is so close, but so is this team? Yeah. I wouldn't be surprised if wander hit 30 at some point, not necessarily this season, but some season, even though that's not his strength, like I could see it happening. But yeah, they could use a little more pop. Yeah. Wait, oh, this took me into a very different payroll page than the one I was looking for. I was like, they sure do not have a $200 million payroll. That is very wrong. Yeah, I mean, they're payroll commitments. Inflation's gone crazy, make it. Oh my gosh. I only have like an $86 million estimated payroll right now, so I guess if you want to be optimistic, you could say they could add a meaningful contract and still not spend all that much. Is that a good thing? Who could sign? All right, let's go to the Red Sox now. Best off season move for the Boston Red Sox Bobby. I went with the obvious one, I was Trevor's story for 6 years, one 40. It's always nice when you can just go out and sign really good players for market value contracts. Although I will say just right off the bat, I kind of hated the Red Sox off season otherwise. Really answer a lot of the questions that rolled over from last year. I mean, I think over performed people's expectations last year. And then I think they were content to just kind of settle back and re insert themselves into the timeline that they were on when they were like, let's trade Mookie bets. But the Trevor story signing and I'm curious here what you all think about this is it's kind of weird for me because now they've run into a sort of similar problem of not being able to give the big contracts to all the people they weren't going to be able to give the big contracts to because they had the Mookie betts contract. So don't we have that same problem now with the Red Sox? Well, maybe. Yeah, potentially, I guess. But at least they're good now. It seems like still, they made it back to being good again, I think, faster than most people expected faster than I expected after trading Mookie. So I'll give them that. I think it is important to remember for that question. They do have a lot of money coming off after this year. So they might not be as worried about it. Martinez is a free agent after this year. Ivaldi is Vasquez, Hernandez, all $7 million of Michael waka, rich hill, you know, and his $5 million. So they're going from having like an estimated payroll this year of 218 to like a luxury tax estimate of a $100 million next year. They're pulling some money off the books and they'll have to fill holes obviously and there will be guys who get our braces, but this is not quite the same payroll situation. They were looking at with bets. So that's part of it. The story signing could also, if they anticipate Xander Bogart's leaving, when he can opt out, he could backfill in a way that like when the Dodgers traded for Trey charter, one of the advantages was if Seeger left, then they could just slide turn her back over to shortstop and story could very well do that. Next year, if Bogart's leaves, I don't know if that's a good tradeoff because bogarts might be better than story, but it seems kind of like an even balance there, not the downgrade that you would have had otherwise. Strengths of the Red Sox, Zack. I wrote down the top 6 in the lineup. 7 8 9 have a lot more question marks, but this is a really good top 6 from Devers and bogarts to story who we talked about Martinez had a bounce back here last year. Hernandez had a breakout for do go is good. So that's a really good top 6. It has left right balance, which I think is overrated, like give me the Blue Jays lineup with all its right handed headers. I don't care, but it does have balance if you care about that. It has power. It has plate discipline. It has contact. So really tough lineup to work through four or 5 times a game. Weaknesses, Bobby. I wrote pitching generally. I actually like their rotation more than I thought I was gonna like the rotation when I sat down to do the homework for this podcast. There are obviously health questions with all of them and there are kind of chillers in it. What's not to like? That's true. There are kind of like length of resume questions with a guy like Tanner how I love. But their bullpen is, it could be pretty, pretty bad. Or it could be good. I don't really know. I'm really terrible with predicting bullpens. I think Matt Barnes is pretty good. It's okay, whitlock was pretty good last year. But then after that, it's pretty bad. It's pretty bad. There are a lot of question marks..

"It was definitely in that genre. But I guess if there's a hole in the road, that can happen with or without the dog. You've clearly never walked my dog who finds every hole in every road and sprints aggressively towards it, dragging me behind her. Yeah. Relatable king Romano right here. I only have dachshunds. I'm like the queen with the corgis with my dachshunds. I always have one. Actually, the queen has dorky, I think. They're like part docs and actually, little known fact. But my dachshunds are scared in the city. They don't like to go out and be walked. They like go out in the country. So I have not dealt with this personally, have never sprained my ankle walking one. So I guess that takes us to breakout pick. Anyone have a Blue Jays breakout? I said, what if the catchers? I still believe in Danny Jansen, I think Alejandro Kirk could be a really good hitter this year and they just traded grace McGuire for Zach Collins. But I also think to give a hint of my next answer, if Moreno just forces his way to the majors this year as well, I think at least one of the catchers will be good this year and that'll make their lineup even deeper because right now roster resource has Janssen hitting 9th. And if you have an average hitter at catcher at the bottom of your lineup, then that just if he gets on base ahead of Springer and Guerrero will score a lot of runs. Yeah, I chose Kirk just because, frankly, almost only because his babbit last year was two 34. And that's pretty low. He was at the bottom 2% of sprint speed, so that has something to do with it, but probably not everything to do with it. You know, I don't know how much he'll actually catch right now, like he's projected to do some DH ing. They have other catchers on the roster. If there are some injuries, I'm sure that they will throw him back there. His framing didn't grayed out too terrible last year, but it wasn't great either. But I still think that I think his bad plays and I think that he would suck to face at the bottom of this lineup as Zack pointed out. Yeah, as long as we don't see that Collins catching, I'm happy with any configuration of catcher. It's not fun for the framing enthusiasts amongst us because he can't frame even a little bit, not even a little. It's really bad. I know Vlad predict Louis broke out last year, but did you guys see the quote from manager Charlie Montoya who himself was just extended on Sunday, he said of flat grove junior he could be a 30 30 guy if he tried because he's big people don't think he's fast. Can you imagine what? Junior has a 30 30 guy. How many times would he have to attempt to steal a base to successfully steal 30? Okay, maybe let's speed is slightly underrated just because he has gotten himself into better shape. He drafted weight last year and maybe his trapped more this year and his sprint speed was in the 44th percentile last year, which was an improvement, but people don't think he's fast. I mean, he's not fast. He's maybe faster than you think of him being, but I just can't imagine what would have to happen for Vlad to steal 30 bases. I don't want him to try to do that. I was just trying to quickly look up how many attempts he even had. He's stolen 5 career bases, guys. Yeah. In 7 attempts. Decent ratio, I guess. But yeah, I don't know if you tried to steal 60. Maybe he could steal 30. I don't know. I don't want him to try to get that to happen. Where does this rank on the irrational manager confidence in comparison to Dave Roberts? Montoya tried to take that back or what? I think the odds of this happening are definitely lower than the odds of the Dodgers winning the World Series. What, 15% chance of the Dodgers in the World Series according to the fairest playbook, not a 15% chance of led to a 30. This is like, you hear all kinds of irrationally optimistic predictions in spring training. I used to do a series of articles on that at baseball perspective, where I went back and looked at things that people on teams predicted in spring training. And very often, they did not come true. And often they're like, oh, we're going to run a lot this year. That's a very common spring prediction. So this is the most extreme example of that. I can not imagine. I actually just looked up his statistical record and I think you're selling him short. Back in 2016 and rookie ball. He stole 15 bases in just 62 games. Multiply that out to a 162 games, and I think Vlad's gonna steal 39 bases this year. Just an indication of how bad the defenses can be a rookie ball. I mean, I'm open to the idea that we tend to have an overly narrow understanding of athleticism, right? I think that the Blue Jays are a great example of this. Like, Alejandro Kirk is a big dude, but he is athletic in his own way, but there's like athletic, and then there's being a base runner. I just, you know, it's nice that his manager is stoked for him being in what is probably literally the best shape of his life, but we probably don't want Vlad to try to steal that many bases because the odds of him damaging himself seem much higher or at least running into outs seem higher than him actually achieving anything like, I don't know, 70, 80% success right there. So Vlad, you just, you know, keep boppin and then you don't have to worry about it. A great way to never have to steal a base is to just stay at home runs. You know who else doesn't want him stealing 30 bases is the second baseman who's covering the bag. As he's sliding in 60 times potentially. Yes. All right, is there a most important rookie on this roster either a holdover or someone who could be called up during the year? I picked Moreno just on the off chance he comes up. I'm not really sure how many rookies will play a role on this team. Now that Nate pierce no longer counts? Yeah. Is Alec manoa arche eligible or no? No. No. Oh, he graduated. So yeah, it's probably it's probably Moreno. It'll be such an interesting contrast because they have had these like, you know, like they have, they have all a hundred Kirk catching..

"Into this lineup. It's hard to imagine how he doesn't really fit and make them better. You have a different answer about viewers that yours too. No, that was my answer to. In fact, I even wrote that exact sentence out basically. He was a three and a half wind player last year with a 7 16 OPS. I mean, he's kind of an incredible player. Like, he basically doesn't need to hit at all. And if he reverts back to anything like 2018 or 2019, this lineup is basically impossible to navigate for essentially every other team in this division who has some question marks and they're starting rotation. I think it's pretty terrifying to add him into this lineup and think that he might bounce back at all. Yeah. Wear stuff season move was releasing Greg bird minutes before we started recording today, which saddens me greatly. I don't know where Greg bird was going to play. Are we all still believers in the bird Assange? I will never not believe it, Greg Ford. And he actually was hitting quite well in spring trading, but it's a tough lineup to crack. I believe that the bougie has a pretty good first baseman already. So tough, tough lineup, but someone will be made happy by Greg birds. Yeah, but the jokes won't be as good, so. That's really too bad. Can we just make I will take the contrarian perspective here just so that we mention them before, but boy is this a fun rotation now and boy have they brought in some reinforcements like lest we forget they added Kevin gausman. They brought in kikuchi who did well to bet on himself because he certainly did better than the option he had with the Mariners would have afforded him, so it's like now this rotation is very us and Gaussian and Ryu and manoa and kikuchi and you know there are some injury concerns with all of those guys or at least some of them, but like that's pretty great unless we forget they extended to Jose beria, so you know they get to enjoy him for a little while. I don't know, this is a good baseball team you guys. Pretty good. Which makes the next couple of questions pretty hard because the categories are biggest strength and biggest weakness. And I guess it's all relative because I don't know that there is a real weakness on this team, but Bobby, you want to go first this time. You have a biggest strength. There's not well biggest strength I would say is just to line up as a whole. They can do essentially everything. There's guys that hit for power. There's guys that get on base, there's guys that see a lot of pitches, like they are going to be very, very hard to face. Biggest weakness was probably the hardest of any category of the entire division with the Blue Jays. For me, which is incredible because, you know, they're the Blue Jays. They usually have a pretty big weakness, but I guess the back half of the rotation despite what you said, Meg, I do have some question marks about how much they can hold up and what their plan really is. It should Gucci kind of does his yo yo back and forth between having a really good season, promising season and kind of having a really bad season. So I guess that would be the one question mark, but I don't really want to pick it here. Like I think that they're pretty well rounded pretty incredible team without an obvious weakness. Yeah, I wrote for biggest weakness and I don't know if this really counts, but losing ray and semi in, just because they bring in Gaussian. They bring a kikuchi, they bring a Chapman and it's really exciting and they were such a good team last year, but they also, I believe, lost more free agent war just in those two players than any other team this year because ray won the Cy Young and semi had finished third in MVP voting. They were both healthy all year. So they aren't necessarily adding Chapman and Gauss men so much as using them to replace guys who are already awesome last year and they have help elsewhere like George Springer was hurt for a lot of last season and he should be healthy this year. But it's not necessarily like, oh, they won X amount of games, and you can just add Chapman's and gaussians value there, which are replacement. So I think they're still going to be awesome. They're my pick to win the division and maybe go even farther than that because they underperform their Pythagorean records so much last year. So as Ben mentioned earlier, they were really like a 99 win team as opposed to in the low 90s, but it's not quite like they're adding to a hundred win roster already. Well, and I think that we can remember that Gauss men had some had some difficulty down the stretch for the Giants and like you always do wonder with two pitch guys like what's going to happen there and I think if you look at their bullpen Romano is really great although perhaps not an expert dog walker, we have learned perhaps bad at walking dogs, but apart from him like you have a bunch of solid but not spectacular guys in the bullpen so like you kind of maybe if you wanted to worry about something like if you're prone to anxiety that you could concentrate some energy there but yeah it is hard to pick one because they're just pretty good just pretty good ball club. And it gets play at home like actually at home in a real way in a way they have it in two years. So that's gotta be nice because who doesn't love sleeping in their own bed? I did to that point Meg right down vaccine mandate question mark as the biggest strength because who knows how many wins that'll save them. But they could win the division if they get an extra two wins out of that. Now that is definitely that was going to be one of my answers in the interesting storylines that will last as long as that mandate is in place. Now we're going to talk about the Yankees shortly and they no longer have to deal with the vaccine mandate in New York, which was lifted just because I guess famous people get their way sometimes and performers got exempted just because they lobbied city hall basically. So Yankees seemed not to be worried about that for good reason. But the Blue Jays, I know that they have claimed that maybe it's not just an advantage because it affected potentially how they made moves in the off season and who they could sign and who they could not sign, et cetera, and maybe some players would have been less willing to go there, which could always be true, but especially now even so, though, I mean, you would have to think that we'll be able to calculate this after the fact presumably. It's not really something you can project because we don't really know who's vaccinated or who's not or who will get the vaccine or whether the rule will change. But after the fact, if there is reporting about, oh, so and so to make the trip to Toronto and we all know why, and at the end of the season, you could probably calculate the impact of that and it seems like it could potentially be substantial, which in this division might actually make a difference. I guess. So I wonder, though, with Jordan Romano, you mentioned his dog walking. So he had a mild left ankle sprain. It was described at while he was walking his dog and he stepped in a hole in the road. So I guess it's not so much that it was a dog walking injury as it was just a hole in the road injury. He could have just been walking without the tug. Maybe he was more distracted because he had the dog. Initially, it seems like one of those weird baseball injuries like someone sneezed and hurt themselves or cut themselves on a can opener or whatever. It was definitely in that genre. But I guess if there's a hole in the road, that can happen with or without the dog. You've clearly never walked my dog who finds every hole in every road and sprints.

"All right, it's time to talk about the AL east. To do so, we are joined by a couple of my colleagues from the ringer and sadly former colleagues from the ringer MLP show. One is Zach cram. Welcome back, Zach. You didn't tell me to say hello. You could say hello now. I said, welcome back. You can say hello. Hello. There you go. And we are also joined by Bobby Wagner, producer of many ringer podcasts, including the dearly departed ringer baseball pods, RIP, as well as the host of his own excellent podcast, tipping pitches hello, Bobby, or please say hello, Bobby. I unlike Zack know how to say hello without being prompted with the exact phrase to say. Hi, guys. Thank you for having me. Happy to have you both. And unfortunately, Michael pauman couldn't be with us today because he's in mourning about Lance Lin's knee injury. That's not actually why, but he was unavailable for other reasons. But happy to have you both and happy to have you Bobby instead of bauman because instead of the fatalistic Phillies fan, we have a fatalistic mets fan, which is a lateral move at best, I guess, but you're a day early for the NL east preview, but thanks for doing the east preview instead. It's generous to call that a lateral move. I think most people are sick of fatalistic mets fans, which is why I will keep that paired back. I assume that's why you didn't invite me on for the NL east for you. Yeah, I'm sure that you are sad enough about de Grom as it is that we didn't have to give you the floor for half an hour or so. Good luck is the word then. Catatonic. So the AL east is a pretty good division. I would say that is my expert analysis. I guess that's true, almost every year, but sometimes it's a two team race, sometimes it's a three team race. This year, there are four good teams in the AL east and I'll just leave everyone in suspense until later in the episode about what the 5th one is. But I think a lot of people are picking four teams to come out of the AL east and make the playoffs, which is too many teams for one division. Stop hogging all of the good playoff teams AL east. There are 6 divisions. You can not have a third of the playoff teams in your division, and yet that is what is happening here, potentially. Do you guys think this is the best the AL east has been? I didn't ask you to pre rank the ALE or anything, but it's this peak AL east. Like ever? Yeah. I don't know. Maybe there isn't a super team or maybe there is. So there's a lot of rigorous enthusiasm about the Blue Jays these days. I will get that out of the way early. I don't know. There should be. Maybe they just aren't the best we've ever seen in the Yankees, for instance, I mean, maybe it's not the best version of some of these teams, but combined in the fact that there are four of them that have a pretty credible shot at winning the division potentially or at least making the playoffs. It is pretty strong. I think it partially depends on how you're defining best not to get too pedantic this early in the podcast, but whether you value two or three amazing teams versus four really good teams because I would not put these Yankees or these Red Sox up with some of the previous additions we've had, but I don't know, would you have preferred the Padres and the Dodgers and giants to all win 96 games last year or was it more fun to have the Dodgers and giants each winning a 106 or a 107 in San Francisco's case and the Padres being out of the race. I think we've seen that version in the AL east before, but not necessarily with four teams like this all at once. Yeah, right. Right now, right now. And like these things can change and my mama, but like right now, the Blue Jays project at least for us at fangraphs to be the second best team in baseball, the only team better than them right now is the Dodgers. And then it goes sprays, Astros, Yankees, Red Sox are down further than that. But this division boasts two of the four best teams and three of the best 5 in the American League. So projections hate the race as usual. Right, and that's the other thing. It's like and they do, but like not by very much, actually, like compared to what they normally think of this confusing little franchise. If you count the rays, they have four of the top 6 teams in the American League. The only the only teams in that contingent that aren't from the AL east are the projected division esters and White Sox. So they're very good. It's a good division. I can't believe you gave away that the Orioles are not one of the teams in the top four. Ben was saving it for suspense. It's like, I get it. I get you're trying to do a cheese, but they're literally projected to be the worst human baseball. Now everyone's just going to turn off the episodes because we spoiled the ending ready. All right. Well, Zach, you should know that it's never too early to get pedantic. This podcast. Thank you for clarifying. All right, so let's get into the teams here. And I don't even know where to start. We've kind of been loosely going from best to worst, but not in any preset order. So I guess we should start with the Blue Jays just because they do have the best projection, according to fan graphs, and we're all excited about them, I think. And arguably, you could make the case that they were the best team last year, even though they didn't make the playoffs at all. So we're going to go through our 6 categories that will loosely spur some discussion for each team and because we have two guests today, we don't have to have an answer from each of you if you have the same answers for some of these categories as is likely, but feel free to hop in wherever and we will try to direct traffic. So we're starting as usual with best off season move or favorite off season move. Zach, you want to go first here? Yeah, so I think the Matt Chapman trade is obviously number one here. They didn't seem to have to give up much and Matt Chapman is awesome, even last year when he was the worst hitter he had ever been. He was still a three and a half wind player and to be so good at defense that you're a three and a half wind player, even as an average hitter is pretty remarkable if some of that ticks back up. Obviously he was dealing with some injuries over the last few years, then he is a legitimate MVP candidate and add him into this lineup. It's hard to imagine how he doesn't really fit and make them better. You have a different answer about viewers that yours too. No, that was my answer to..

"So it is quite rare. And the last time it happened with catchers was 1985. It's been a while, right? So Donnie Scott and Orlando Mercado were traded for each other to catchers from Texas and Seattle in April of 1985 and I found a story about that from 1985, which I will link to on the show page, but it was basically like, you know, we like this guy a little bit more than that guy. It wasn't like, hey, we think we have a superstar here. So the quote about that trade. Scott said he thinks the mercados got swap will benefit both parties. We saw what Donnie could do, the second half of the rangers season, and in the long run, we feel like Mercado is going to be a little bit better. He's in the same age range as Scott. They were actually both 23. And I guess he was right. Mercado was a little bit better, technically, or at least he played more, but he was not actually better because they were both sub replacement level players. So Riccardo ended up with negative three career war versus Scott's negative 1.7 career war, so I guess you have to decide is playing more, but accruing even more negative value, better than playing less than accruing less. I guess it is. It was probably better for Mercado. But that's kind of the caliber of the trade you get, what do you trade? Players at the same position who are the same age for each other. So in honor of Danny Scott and Oscar Mercado, who you got in the great Zach Collins versus Reese McGuire trade of 2022, which one are you betting on for the greater career war over the rest of their careers? I'd say Rhys Maguire. Yeah. It's probably the safer bet. If only because again, I think he could actually catch. Right. And this is pretty bad at that, so. Okay, well, thank you. Ryan for looking that up. It is not an unprecedented trade, but it is indeed a strange one, and one that I probably would have written an entire article about back in my baseball perspective stays. Now I have stat blessed instead. So that was tenuously connected to the AL east, our next segment will be.

"You know around if you want to count the welker games around. So i'm happy with that and you know we weren't. We didn't all predict that there are one and done so. I still think for all three of us. It is a success based on our prediction. I'm i'm happy with that. I'm happy to go down with that for sure. I mean considering that i can. I predicted a world series matchup with two teams. That didn't even qualify. I i i don't have a ton to say but You know what i like. The thing is the blue jays didn't end up making the playoffs. And that's obviously unfortunate but at least it's not because they were a bad team or because they collapsed because in order. They say they had made the playoffs. It would have been probably even better than the twenty fifth team all the the things that went right at once. Basically to get them in so i'm a little okay with it. And considering they won their last game like we knew they had to sweep baltimore they did they. They won twelve to four Easily like if aaron judge didn't hit that line drive or if rafael devers didn't hit that home run or or alex purdue go didn't hit that double or whatever bluejays would have probably been in a tiebreaker. That's all. I really have to say you hope next season things are different and even if the playoffs are the same which probably throw my computer if that's the case but even if they are i still think the team will make the playoffs either wildcard or maybe even the division. I know one thing that i noticed a lot in this episode is we all basically predicted the raise. We're gonna fall off and reasonable to sort of predict that when you lose blake snell. It definitely is something that i think we considered but a lot of us really praised the yankees and i mean good on them. They did they did finish with ninety. Two wins eight games back of of the raise. But i don't think any of us really expected this to happen and even throughout the season it was all red. Sox had a easy season. They're gonna fall off and it's it's basically bluejays either taking place or they take first place but i think this proves that the al east is probably the best division in baseball with the exception of maybe the nfl less with the dodgers and the giants having that great run that they had. But it's gonna be tough. I think next season it's gonna. It's likely to almost certain that they make it. But when you look at this season it. It i can't even really call it a disappointment just considering all the things that had to go right and that did go right and you talk about all of that. One thing didn't happen well. All we needed was not a one. Nothing loss from the tampa bay rays louise would have had their shot to punch ticket to the playoffs. But you know what it's i guess..

No i'm not gonna be a buys because we're here to talk about betting and making money. So i mean you gotta admit that the yankees are one of the hottest teams in baseball right now. A big serious coming up against the braves this weekend so Their bats are getting it done and it's almost seems like they're getting it done in like in the second or third inning and at ford dinning. Stretch right there where they're batting comes round the second time in that lineup so If you wanna take a look at continued banke take a look at their first five money. Line also. If he's not perfect when he comes back. I will lose my absolute mind because this is not on him. He's not the one who's been playing like ask for the last two weeks. And he hasn't pitched in a major league game since august twenty. Nineteen if you think he's gonna come back and strike out seventeen batters in six innings or seven innings or whatever you are living in a fantasy world i hope he does but if somebody is like on chris sale i will lose my mind because he was already getting so much crap in twenty nineteen when he was pitching well but getting no run support because he never gets any run support and he's taking no decisions he's taking losses he gave up more home runs in two thousand nineteen but so did everyone else because the balls were juiced he was also still hitting double digit strikeouts in like something like eight of his starts and you know to immaculate innings on like okay cool but they're losing two to one or one to nothing because you give edwato rodriguez nine runs of support in one inning in chicago. That's more than you gave. Chris sale in his last three starts put together. How is that fair. So you know i'm ready. I'm ready to fight. People who go after chris sale that is that is my job. Three series Yes yes beautiful wonderful love. It needed Came back in court. I made this very kind of you love it. But it's also very obnoxious comment where he was like well. I got tickets so fast because we had been planning to on friday and we we've been planning on friday anyway than oo. Maybe that's his game than they announced that it was saturday. Instead guess for going to disner out here we go. Because it doesn't wanna see fenway park avenue lose. Its collective mind with the return of chris sale. I will not count the red sox out of course because you can't because they are a playoff right now so as much fun as i've had watching them collapse. They're in the wild card game at this moment. And if they were to say play. I mean if they were to play to the level they were playing at prior to the trade deadline. They probably the number one wildcard. They they might not catch the raise but they might who knows. I don't know but if they never got you know they never bounced back. They're not gonna make the playoffs. The yankees are weird. Getting very lucky. They're winning games. That are strange which you know as we saw with the red sox in the first half is sort of a product of how well the teams feeling itself. You know guarding out that weird win on monday where they blew saves and the seventh eighth ninth and tenth something. I don't think people even knew you could do but we've talked weenie. I mean and also anyone who's a blown save enthusiasts who assumes that your team's gonna blow it safe at all times you know you always now the phillies. If i had a dollar for. "I don't know if he's going to give you more than like five or six innings in these starts going to want to but i do think like having him back on the bump every five days and having them in the dugout being like a crazy person not gonna hurt the proceedings. But i do think you're right in that. So you know this yankee team. We didn't know they were the deadline. Either we knew that they needed. I mean there were obvious upgrade points. The bullpen is running out of arms. Everyone of the bullpen is tired. They supplement the bullpen with some like like klay homes has been interesting so far we like it. We enjoy it other than clay homes. They ditched louis. Sessa and attached justin wilson. Whose terrible to get that done and that cleared up payroll that ultimately never used. So that's been kind of a bummer right now because they use arms if not to be effective just to soak up innings. Because what they are doing is calling up nicknames. News one of the worst pitchers in baseball history and makes me think every time he takes the man that i could be a major leaguer because there's no threshold for failure. His stuff is look nick nelson stuff better than mine yes. I don't throw ninety seven. But if i blow up and can't find home plate and like and like throw abundant into right field and do whatever nichols has been doing and the next day my managers like keep at it. They're like we're going to send you damn well we're gonna bring you right back up like the fact that you you know. It makes me think that there's no rules i could just be on the roster repeatedly but did cashman fortify the bullpen. Jury's out i'm not sure but he needed to find left. Handed power got anthony. Rizzo pulled that off the horn. God joey gallo and so. None of us were ready to say like this team is like this team is near perfect. Just supplemented with a couple lefties. Nobody nobody thought this yankees team was perfect. But everybody knew. If you're gonna make moves get lefty power. He got to. He didn't really sacrifice much of anything to do it. The red sox had a more golden opportunity ahead of them. As far as i can tell. And so i think you're right..

"Didn't have that play. Nine innings that to me. That doesn't even really count 'cause like you didn't even win nine inning baseball game. You won a little league baseball game. Like congratulations on your participation trophy for that one win. But i don't buy it because you. Oh my god i can't. I'm so mad. I'm just oh man. I'm sure he will love this. I'm like after avenue months of thomson claiming this podcast is for the haters. Because we'd come on every monday and be like well the worst loss we've ever seen in the regular season just took place on sunday or like. Wow the took the first two on friday and saturday while you weren't listening to us and then now here we are on monday. They blew a six run. Lead in the ninth with their closer on the mound or something. So we've been saying like sox fans raise fans if you exist jason's fans like this podcast for you. We're having a terrible time please combined listen. That is what this is. I mean further for the first time in a long time sox haters i mean this is the podcast they were they subur- they're supposed to listen to this so now enjoy wait for a little while in my in my misery honestly but you know it's i mean look i survived the twenty twenty red sox season. I survived the creative. Mookie betts i survive dave dombrowski not doing anything at the twenty nineteen trade deadline. That's what this feels like to me but no well. I don't know. I think i saw everyone's been talking about this because obviously people are like. Oh well kind bloom. Killed their morale at deadlines didn't do anything first of all. He did not do anything for you. Have to consider two things. First of all he was he was brought here to lower the payroll which the payroll still like two hundred million dollars. Almost like this team is like not achieved team. This is not the raise. This is not the pirates. He went and spent money like he signs. Kika hunter renfrew like he. He did stuff over the winter he did a lot. He did more than i thought he was a deal. So there's but the other thing is to consider the market look. How much burritos went for. Look how much. Like the kyle gibson trade package. Everyone's all like. Oh that's the one thing i'm like. Well we could've used cow gibson. Everyone's no we couldn't because look what they gave up. They only had to give up three pitching prospects because they traded for gibson kennedy and one of the top pitching prospects from the rangers and the rangers symptom four million dollars. If we had just wanted gibson we could easily got kyle gibson. I mean we only had to send one guy for kyle schmerber it. Kyle's guile how fast twenty twenty one. But you know. I think people are like oh High bloom is never gonna be dave dombrowski. He's never going to go. And just be like here..

"Who else is in there that you got them all. The pelicans are the next one on the last year. But there are a little there like seventeen memphis. You know. Those are side. Sort of teams. On the periphery of being good teams. The miami heat are now in the middle of the pack for nba. chad title. Odds i would have thought after a year ago. Thought that they would be top eight and it feels like they've cooled off a lot. Yes since they made a run to the nba finals there. But you know that's where. You're waiting for tyler hero to step up and be now great and i think that he leveled off a little. Bit duncan robinson is getting paid you got lowery bam out of bio is really good. You got jimmy butler that you re signed so it's a good team. I don't think it's a great team and it still. You know there's still drama left with what happens with ben. Simmons what happens with dame lillard can sixers better. The bucks didn't do much but did they need to do that much. So that's kind of when you start to handicapped this. The box are tied with golden state. I think for a third on that list. Then it's the lakers brooklyn is Tops winning a championship. Yep on. I'm sure it's happened before. But it has a city ever had the two worst it tourist teams in the sport like the thunder. I'm not sorry. The rockets are expected to be by the odds. The worst team in the sport number pick and the houston texans. Right now are the odds to be the worst team in the nfl globe by way. Detroit's in a similar situation he's a pistons or at the bottom of this list and the lions were at the close right up had a houston and the tigers are actually. I don't even know they're really bad to right now and i. I'm guessing that i know that. There's like an occasional miguel cabrera homerun where we all he's got four hundred and ninety nine home runs like okay. Try the tigers still in major league baseball. We and seed and point at before the show the tap. Is it going out of control. They cannot be stopped. Nobody talks about the tampa rays. They want to talk about the red sox and the yankees but the razor once again. You can't name five raise. Probably but that's what's amazing about that organization they somehow cobble together a lineup and the red sox and yankees overspend and tampa still leading the division. But people care about the yankees. The you know the blue bloods yankees and the red sox yama club. I remember when new york and la could just outspent. Everyone and guarantee a title. I miss stays visa tampa. It's got what the box lightning. Yeah and then. Milwaukee wins us. This tampa doesn't overspend saying the small markets are winning titles. Now it's you don't need to spend you can't buy a title. It seems like yeah but we don't look at a small market when it comes to the nfl. It's all like you go boy green bay. It's small market. Yeah but it feels like everybody is sort of unlevel playing field. They're not where you have the haves and a half nods because everybody has to spend a certain amount of money. Yes he may how many markets i don't know maybe it's more common than i'm thinking just because nothing's coming to the top of my head but how many cities have all of their team's win a title in the same year she had a lightning buccaneers race. Have the raise. Yeah yeah. I don't know how many cities can say they've done that. Yes hunt boston. We got your patriots in your bruins and celtics. They must have done quicker than they have probably three championships and i was wondering if you had had four teams there baseball football basketball hockey. I like how you know. It was a couple years since Boston won a title. You can't imagine you know some kid who's like twelve going. Oh my god. We haven't won a title in like forever. Final hour coming up seen paulie fritzy bec- eleven years truly close out the second hour with a subtle reminder. Summer's coming to an end. And that means football is going to be here soon.
