"I had the Baltimore, you know, if you're going to give the first half, who looked the best in the first half of this season, I think Baltimore takes it as we head to the second half. It doesn't mean they'll keep it, but, um, it just feels like their offense is finally the right kind of offense for Lamar. And I don't, I'm not smart enough about football to understand what they're doing, but people have been saying how they're trying to have them to throw over the middle a little bit more and there's a lot more motion and, um, things happen. It doesn't seem to matter who the running back is. Um, they look complete and I feel like they have a home field advantage, which is, which is odd. I mean, go ahead and add that extra half full point to home field when they play. Well, and also with the lead, they're tough. If they're up 10, you just feel like, Oh man, this is done. And then on the flip side, Seattle seems like they're kind of headed the wrong way. Last, last, uh, AFC related game, the CJ Stroud was just spectacular and unbelievable. We were on it. I remember I said before the draft that we, we did some me and Solak and Danny Kelly did some draft stuff and I don't know that I barely follow college football. You follow up, but I don't. I was just like, CJ Stroud. I don't see it. I don't see a quarterback with an initial name. We've had AJ feeling. We had AJ McCarron. I was like, I just said, we've never had it. I makes PF Chang PF Chang had like one good year. It was great that year. Um, but we knew within two weeks, we were like, this guy, we were saying it on the pod. This guy has it today, 30 for 42, four 70, five touchdowns had two game winning drives in the last like five minutes for the season. 14 touchdowns, one interception. And I went and looked up is, does he have a chance to have the best rookie QB season ever? There's not a lot of, not a lot of, uh, yeah. Well, who else is in the Reno? So I looked that up. I thought I had, in my head, it was Marino in 1984, but it was actually the 83 year. He only started nine games. He threw 20 touchdowns, six picks. Yeah. Um, Minshew had 21 touchdowns, six picks. Russell Wilson had a great one. He was 26 TDs 10 picks through for 31 18. Your guy, Dak, 23 touchdowns, four picks, 36, 67 RG three. Yeah. That's the one. 20 touchdowns, five picks 3,200. And then Herbert had a shockingly good, uh, rookie season, which I had forgotten. He's the only one that threw for over 4,000, um, like 800, 800 yards rushing to seven touchdowns a year. Yeah. Yeah. Herbert was 31 and 10, but Stroud's now on pace for, it's not gonna, he's not going to do this, but 28 touchdowns and two picks would be the pace. And when you watch it, like they're great throws. It's not, this isn't like a machine of an offense. Like he's hitting dudes over the shoulder catches, sitting in deep, he's scrambling out and finding people like, it's like jaw dropping how good he is as a rookie. And it's hard for me to believe we spend this much time on the draft and people didn't think, you know, we were like, Hey, he might be a bust, Ohio state. And then we'll love us. It was really good on Thursday. Again, I met on that guy too. We just, we cannot figure out the draft. I know. I don't know why we can't at this point. It's, uh, but every, should we be better at this? We should be either that, or there shouldn't be, uh, 15 more experts every year. It seems like more draft experts than ever. And yet we don't know if we'll love us as good or, uh, young is better than Stroud. And yeah, young just looks like a college quarterback right out there. You know, like that. They can't block for him. So it's, I, yeah. It's hard for me to know what he is yet, because it just seems like he's running and he's running for his life at the time. Team's not very good. I have to say I'm, I'm completely, uh, I'm, I'm numb to what's a good quarterback anymore. I think like Gardner Minshew was good. Like somebody like, Oh no, no, that guy's good. That guy's a good quarterback. Like really? Or is everybody bad? Like, no, he's good.

"Paris Campbell was a big for agent signing. He hasn't done much. Yeah, that one I would have guessed. And then you start going through it and you're like, well, Jalen Hyatt fell to the third round. Everyone expected him to be, you know, he's going to be the deep threat. Well, he was a third round pick. Like, we'll see what happens. And then Barkley gets hurt right away. And Thomas gets hurt. It sounds like you haven't closed the door on them though, just because of Dave Hall or something else. Yeah, they're really well coached. This team went to the playoffs last year. They won a lot of close games. It's not like there's some inexperienced, raw bunch of rookies. Like, they've got the guys in there that have won. It's falling apart at the seams. I have to imagine Dable can at least save the second half of the season. That's how I would look at it. But it's probably going to get worse before it gets better in the next two weeks. Well, to me, they're one of the fork in the road teams this week. Because now we have four weeks of evidence. You can really study a lot of the data. And it's not a small sample size anymore. And if they get killed by Miami this week, that's a wrap. Like, we're done. That's just not going to happen for them. Do you know, Seattle, like, I watched the game the week before. And everyone else was watching Taylor Swift. That game was a blowout. I put over Seahawks Carolina because I was intrigued. Andy Dalton went up and down the field on that Seahawks defense. The Seahawks defense with the Giants having 11 days to prepare. So they played on Thursday night and Monday night. Without a buy, that's the biggest gap in between games. I mean, you have to prepare for one team, one defense. Giants put up three points and had a pick six. And the Seahawks defense, although they're young, they're not the 78 Steelers. They're not the 85 Bears. So if that's the case, I don't know where we go from there. Yeah, Andy Dalton in that game, he threw for 361 yards. And they had 23 first downs, 17 passing. I felt the same way because I was going to take Seattle for million dollar picks last week. And that game scared me so much that I backed off. And then by Monday, I'm like, you know what, fuck it. I'm betting Seattle. Another do you believe that ties into the fork in the road thing? Do you believe Cincinnati is done this season? OK, so the answer is, again, Mr. Pollyanna here. Not done, but they're the boxer on the ropes right now. And they've been down twice and it's like a 10-7 round. And they might they might be staggering. The AFC North, there isn't that runaway 4-0 team right now. I know the Ravens are 3-1 and have looked good, but they're still a work in progress in a lot of ways, too. Joe Burrow re-injured it a little bit against the Rams. He was e-mobile against the Rams and they found a way to win. They found a way to win because the Rams left tackle got hurt. And all of a sudden their defense showed up for an hour. And then this past week I told anyone and everyone on Good Morning Football, I'm like, Jeffrey Simmons and that Tennessee defensive line will eat Burrow alive this week. And that was a very in vogue pick to take the Titans to beat the Bengals. I didn't realize it would be 27-3. Burrow apparently had a really good week of practice. They had a couple come to Jesus moments this week, I'm told. This is the game. Like, all right, this is the week where we got to figure it out. If Cincinnati falls behind and they're suddenly 1-4 and the Ravens are 4-1, okay, that's a big gap and of course the Ravens would have the advantage over them. So they're in Arizona and they're 3-point favorites. And they're 3-point favorites despite the fact that Arizona has played much better than this year. Not better, much better. Since they scored 49 points all season, their 30th in first downs, 58 total. They've only made four 20-plus plays, explosive plays. They've had four. They have Jamar Chase. Higgins is hurt. They're giving up 157 rush yards per game, which is second to last. Last time I checked, Joe Burrow doesn't play defense. Derek Harry and Tajay Spears were running all over them last week. They're over or under for wins before the year was 11-and-a-half and we love the under. That's way too high, especially if Burrow's hurt. I feel like you can cash that in. This feels like if you lose this game, it's a wrap. And if you're Arizona, what an unbelievable spot. You're a home dog and you've looked really good all season for what people thought you were going to be there. Over-under was 4-and-a-half wins. Arizona's great at home this year. They gave the Giants fits and then they beat the Cowboys. Would you play Burrow? Put the hat on here. This week you go Cardinals this week. This seems to be not the easiest opponent, but it's an opponent that's not one of the titans of the league, obviously. Would you say rest him this week or is this do or die? He says he wants to play. We've got to play him because that's what Zach Taylor is doing. The problem for them is I think people learn from the Rams game that basically they're doing what they're doing, but he can't move. And it's like, here's our new offense based around the fact that this guy can't move. So then we go to last week, you know, and they're playing Tennessee and Tennessee is like, this guy can't move. This will be great. And we'll just, we'll play, we'll play up on the line that he won't have time to throw deep, all that stuff. Who's the backup? It's a guy named Jake Browning. And they recently re-signed A.J. McCarron, who was out of football for a year. Right. So that's why you have to, even on one leg, he's better than whoever you're throwing out there. And he wants to play. He's one of those guys. He's like, I'm good. And if you just paid him this money and he's taking you to a Super Bowl and an AFC Championship game and the season's on the line and he says he's good, like, is Zach Taylor going to sit him down and say, I actually don't think you're good? No, he's going to play. The bigger problem for them is Arizona might actually be pretty good.

I play trade dread which was a much much better use of my time so there was that devante parker sir it none. None of it's working. None of the draft picks of when working out like the the whole thing the rebuild is it's an abject failure everybody off your boy. Yeah the the. It's a failure. The dolphins failed to rebuild. They failed to rebuild. And i guess what makes us look bad. It's the fact that a certain quarterback out in los angeles is doing good. And that's herbert right. Beating beating good teams. Everybody beanies wanted. Exactly he's he's beating good teams and forty seven forty two over the cleveland browns in los angeles. Yeah just like lamar. Yep so yeah herber is will join patrick. Mahomes the only qb's in the super bowl air with forty plus touchdowns and fewer than twenty five fifteen interceptions in their first twenty starts of their career. Because it's a place that alabama takes advantage in the margins of you know there's not a salary cap in that sport but ultimately you're you've got limits alabama would go get three hundred recruits if they could if there weren't limited scholarships because they're feeding the machine and at this point. They're making so much money that they're they're like the amazon of college football they could just pour all of the money back into the program to keep the the ceo. I think told you stugatz and this is worth exploring as you look at alabama develop a program that is starting to look like nothing you have ever seen in modern sports college football. Alabama's not just winning dominating college football they're doing it without a quarterback yes and yesterday to a might have been the worst of the three quarterbacks that you saw from alabama in the league max jones. Jalen jalen hurts you and to until you put the three of them out there. They're all starting. Aj mccarron was the first time that they were championship competitive and it looked like they might have had a quarterback but one i think the greatest thing on nick sabin resumes. He was winning a lot of those championships without a quarterback. That's how how great everything around those guys was. and now you have a scenario. He was dan that was. That was the thing while. Nick saban is doing all this. And he's doing it without quarterbacks who make it to the nfl and if they do make it. They don't have productive careers now. You have quarterback prospects you had them leaving d. committing from usc in choosing alabama. Because they have now seen them put a couple of quarterbacks into the nfl what he has done. Obviously we all marvel at sabin and we talk about what a great coach and organizer. He is culture creator architect but he has so many advantages at this point from within the system where everyone knows. That's the program. Usc had this for a while and miami had it for a while but in our lifetimes. I don't believe anyone has hand. What alabama has in college football and. There's no slowing it down to god's because it's clearly the factory portal to how do the inner cities get their kids to the pros and wide receivers all over the league from alabama now and it's not just you know lane. Kiffin told us when he was the coordinator there. I go on the field every saturday. And i know our player is better than their player. I'm looking at them physically. And i'm like our player is better than their player at that position at all of the positions and the advantage. They have that doesn't mean that somebody can't beat him. It doesn't mean that That that are georgia might surprise you this year. 'cause they're good and their defense seems to be overwhelming day. Play florida on the road at the swamp this weekend. That's going to be a difficult game. Maybe but that's not the point like maybe somebody can knock them off. But i'm just talking about in general. You can't stop there. So it's all those advantages plus. You've got a professional. Ceo just hiring all these other professional discards because they're the rehab program on coaching. So they've got the it is an academy it's an it's an academy that that is above the rest of college football on sending people to the pros and you also have a coach who i think really the the lots that kind of turned them around as a program into what they are now is them losing to johnny manziel's texas a. and m. where it's like. Oh no we need to actually graduate from having giant men run over you to also having that but also be able to throw the ball and having incredible skill guys beyond just the odd. Julio jones here and there they needed to gear up to score forty points in a big aim like that in an explosive way and since they've lost johnny manziel they become a completely different program. Got you can look at some of what it is okay. You can do what you just did. Tough game florida. But just look at lsu look at the one team put on the field and we were like. Whoa holy bleep. That's the best thing i've ever seen the keeping it there. Somebody can sneak. Whatever you get a lot of talent in the south. And i mean you can fill all of those teams with guys that might be able to beat alabama on a saturday but staying up there. I mean or drawn. You'd think he's going to stay up there. "And you know a guy like Kyle in hell for mission. Mississippi State, the running back who you know, this is gonna be a big year for him and Mike Leach a scheme played three games, but it has with the coaching staff decided oft out. Okay, well, he's gonna have a lot to answer for this week in terms of the interviews and then on the flip side, What about the guys that you know, it chose the often and play and had this is great season. You know, the one year wonders the guys like Cornell Palate clumps in the wide receiver who stepped up and had a big senior year. You know, this is a chance for him to kind of legitimize. Well, what you put on tape this year and show that is really no fluke that he's not the one year wonder this is is an NFL talent. This is ah. Where he's headed so that plenty for these players to prove this week during practice, you know, for Denver Broncos fans, Everything really boils down to the quarterback position whether the team jumps into the fray for Matt Stafford, where they go to the draft, or where they wrote back, withdrew lock. You know, we look at this group here at the Senior Bowl. Do you see a franchise guy among the guys here? It's senior bowl. Yeah, well, obviously not Jones from Alabama. He's gonna be the guy that's been talked about all week. As is he or isn't he worthy of a first round pick? You know this? Ah, lot of teams consider this before Quarterback draft. Uh, Trevor Lawrence at the top. And then whatever order you have between Justin Fields Trail lands exact Wilson. But you know, Mac Jones has done a lot. The last four months. This put his hat in the ring and say, Listen, I'm part of that group, too. I'm a first round quarterback, and so you know, this is you know, it was weird because we want to see him removed from that Alabama situation is of all the elite talent he had around him. What he's going to an All Star game. And it is actually probably lesser talent here that he had the work with Tuscaloosa, which is kind of crazy toe think, But Mack Jones is interesting. He has the intangibles. He has the intelligence really love the way he processes. He knows where to go with the football. He can move around in the pocket. Even though he's not a great athlete is there's physical traits are very average, so he's not gonna blow anybody away. There's something to be said about. You know the opportunity that the Panthers coaching staff is gonna have this week to have Mac Jones throughout the week. Understand better, you know, just what makes him tick. How is he wired different things like that. And so, actually just gonna be the quarterback that all eyes will be on him. How does the ball come off his hand compared to, you know, killing Bond, you know, right after him. Kellerman's got a gun. Not the better not as good of a quarterback prospect, but he's got the stronger arm. So how how does that look one after each other? Mac Jones has a lot to prove this week, which is, you know, considering he just let Alabama national title You know, that doesn't sound right, but in the eyes of scouts when they're focused more on the traits than just the on the production. He still has a lot to prove. This is a money making week. Potentially for Mack Jones. Is Matt Jones. A better prospect that agent McCarren was. Yeah, I think so. I think that you have more to work with. I think he's You know, Agent may care you Andy Bolton. AJ McCarron. You know, I think he's in that here, but I would put him at the top of that year. You know, a guy that concert in this league can help you win football games. Now, if you put Everything on his back and say, Go win it for us. Can you do that? It's hard to say, because we never really had to see him do that at the college level, So, but I do think the way he works the pocket his intelligence the way he could decipher defense's. And, yes, he dealt with a lot of wide open targets this year. But you know you could throw on the Georgia tape. You concert once a different tapes, and he had the thread the needle and make those tight window throws. And he showed the confidence to do it. So I think there's a lot there you can work with. And I think when we look at the teams picking in the late first round, it should be pretty enticing to draft a guy like that. You look at the Saints or, you know a team that's already got the pieces around him. They just need to insert that quarterback. They could help him get over the hump Last couple here for you day and really appreciate the time so I don't ask you really quickly about Drew lock because he, of course was by a lot of people, in estimation was gonna be a little bit of a project coming out of college, and so far he's been in the curse couple years with this team only really had one full season because of injury. And he's looked like a project. So how far off from what your expectations of him were has he become with the Broncos? Yeah. I mean, I think this point. He's been easily what we expected. You know, you see the flashes where you know he has the arm. He could move around a little bit. Um, you know, there's there's a lot of I think what we saw a bear a car when he was coming out of president state. You know pools to work with. It just comes down to can he play within himself, say under control and not make those you know those fatal flaws that those big mistakes that could end up swinging the game. You know, it doesn't always have to Make the big play. But can you at least put himself in position the offensive position to make those plays and he's done that from time to time, But overall, it just has not been the most efficient offense. And, you know, I think you could point to You know something going down and some inconsistencies here and there with the run game and, you know, I think they tried to put the weapons around him. It's gonna be interesting off season for the Broncos. You know, they're obviously they're gonna examine the quarterback situation and they need to figure out okay. Is there a clear upgrade for us out there? That's worth investing in and I think that it's gonna There's a lot of hard decisions. Obviously, with the new general manager coming in, uh, you know It's Z. I don't think that the leash is very long. And so it's gonna be really interesting to see which direction they go it. There's so many keys that could use a quarterback this offseason that are in the quarterback market. And this is a quarterback rich draft in the first round, and we know in free agency and, you know, we don't know what's going on with Matthew Stafford. Now, if you were these other quarterback situation, it's It's just It's gonna be an exercise in musical chairs. And who's gonna be left without that chair is gonna be really interesting, and we'll see how aggressive the Broncos get. Definitely Tain. We really appreciate it. What do you remember about that time? I remember a lot about it. The biggest thing I'm about as my mom picking that lets you to go to but I I continue to choose Alabama. I just wanted to be here. You know the biggest thing I know I remembered it was something that your commitment was. I think on television and And your mom your mom none-too-happy but it it worked out pretty well. I think so. I think it worked out. Very well. she's happy that I'm I'm not in school at Alabama right now. But she's happy that on. I'm still planning that. I love so I'm interested in in in this game from from your perspective because you played in some epic Alabama Lsu Games and now we're back for probably the biggest game since that season Back in eleven and ultimately in twelve remember first of all just reflections on this game from your own is on the field you played when I was playing man I remember the biggest one I played and it was at Lsu. So that's that's that's the that's the biggest fans they got a guy that could get them. Get them the ball as much as possible. And I'll get into the different receivers the different that would call them all over the field. Oh and then defensively I would say I mean we strong strong we get the job done and we make sure we hold officers not scoring and not getting that. It's the points that they need to get to keep in and in the game but at the same time this defense is GonNa hold up. I'm interested Landon from the defensive side of the ball because you know you're certainly you've been more than one of the best players in college and you're you're doing quite well in the NFL when when when you look at trying to defend against Alabama runs you help us understand from your standpoint. How do you do it because You got four wide receivers that are going to play. You got to who speaks for itself you you got a running back who's overlooked and Nausea Harris. Browns fire coach Hue Jackson ahead of trade deadline
"General manager with their old. Hey, coach, hue Jackson. It was destined to fail. And it did finally on Monday when the Browns released Hugh Jackson with time left on his contract this season and next season. So the Browns will be paying him through two thousand nineteen but it will give John Dorsey and Alonzo Highsmith and Elliott Wolff in the Browns for an office the chance to go hire their own head coach, they are I in the pool this year. They get the start looking for an interviewing coaching candidates right now, if they want to go talk to Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma taking go do that. If they want to go talk to any other college coach, they can go do that. They don't have to hide behind anything right now. The Browns are the first out for a coaching search. And then of course, they make the change in offense coordinator firing Todd Haley and bringing in Freddie kitchens who doesn't have extensive experience running an NFL offense. So it'll be interesting to see how kitchens calls play. Days starting Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. And so the Cleveland Browns the first team to overhaul their coaching staff, but the real changes came Tuesday with a flurry of moves that made this one of the busiest trade deadline days in NFL history. Last year was very busy. Because at the last moment in the twenty four hours leading up to the deadline. We saw Jimmy Garoppolo traded from New England to San Francisco j Gye traded from Miami to Philadelphia Dwayne Brown from Houston to Seattle. Marcel Darius from buffalo to Jacksonville and Kelvin Benjamin going from Carolina to buffalo end the almost trade of AJ McCarron from Cincinnati to Cleveland, the got foiled when the Browns could not get the deal done in time by the four o'clock deadline by the four o'clock deadline this year. There was no such thing. Holding back a flurry of moves. We saw de. Ver- trade Pro Bowl wide receiver. Damaris Thomas and a seventh round pick to the Houston. Texans for a fourth and seventh round pick. As will the interesting part of that trade is that Thomas is first game with the Texans will come Sunday in Denver against the Broncos team. That just traded him. Thomas was the longest tenure Bronco and get the Broncos say goodbye to him because really they weren't going to keep his fourteen million dollars salary around next season in my mind. The most surprising move right before the deadline. Came win Detroit traded golden Tate to Philadelphia for a third round pick. So many teams had made so many inquiries to the lions about golden Tate. But they had resisted all overtures for him. But finally, they broke down and dealt Tate to the eagles who for the second straight year made a trade right at the deadline last year Gye this year Tate, as they look to try to keep up with the rest of the NFC east another team in the NFC making.
