"Over opioids. I enjoyed each and every one lance. I'm about midway through. I just got through john lynch. So i still have mega drawn and edward james. A few others. I gotta listen to. I mean payton was terrific. But you knew paint was going to be terrific. We talked to sharon about this. Who was there in canton. She joined us on thursday. I think it was and sat because this was two classes in one that eight minutes. Yeah they were all being prescribed eight minutes yes but in subways. That's not necessarily bad thing. And i didn't watch all the speeches but i do love the hall of fame weekend. And just this guys porn out their heart and soul and the coaches that have made them the players they they ultimately became and i just love the way they pay tribute to so many people But you know it was a long. This was a twenty eight inductees this year and the a huge so about eight minutes. Chuck and vancouver. Tell me i'm wrong. Anyone who is in the hall of fame and canadian football hockey and lacrosse asked to be in the conversation regarding the canadian athlete. Mount rushmore survivor. Talking about for those no annals of history in canadian athletics. why don't conquer named canadian athlete of the half-century grey cup memorial cup stanley cup and the male athlete of the year to this day bears his name and can't tell you wrong chuck. There are no bad answers when you're talking about athletes of that level. You're not getting seventy one memorial cup to stanley cup centigrade cup. No line o'connor's basically our jim thorpe to with the greatest early early half of the twentieth century athlete. Who just went out there. And one everything we've got an hr roofing voice memo. Tell me. I'm wrong farley. Tell me i'm wrong mike. Laying is the legend and he will surely be missed. All i can say is like hunting moose on a harley yarmur yager thanks guys dis. The gravelly delivery is such. A big part of john was talking about you know what he play in other markets. Yea they were kitschy and they named foothold in hockey but to me it. Was that gravelly delivery. Like jim robson was smooth and wants to like in the wage. Robson did his job. And i grew up on jim robson. So i'm partial to him. But i just love the fact that mike lang always had that the voice may have been altered by i was gonna say i believe mike and i are in the same boat in that. We are both Reforms on that. How i heard you say you spent you want to know what the deal was at the air canada centre. Twenty years ago there was a little door on the far end of the press box that led to a little.

"What should we make of that. This is a very good point. We have to remember that the vaccines not there to completely make it so that your swab is negative. It's meant to take your disease covid. Nineteen and essentially. Take away the chance of you being so severe that. You're hospitalized with it so in the inciting outbreak where you're actually going out looking for it. It's not unusual to find people that have a positive swab but there otherwise. Well the same thing happened down south with which baseball team it was. Not many of them had the yankees they had had The vaccine many of them are asymptomatic but they had a positive test. So that's the big thing that you've now taken the virus and you've defanged it. People are so mild they don't even realize they have it and on population level. That's a huge thing and to your point. I mean there's was a study that came out of public health. England showing even one dose of the pfizer or astra zeneca vaccine is really effective at presenting preventing serious illness with the delta variant. Absolutely and i think that's been lost in the discussion. We keep hearing thirty three percent number that public essentially. Here's and says oh. One dose of vaccine is useless. No even if it were thirty. Three percent With one does on a population level. That's huge a huge difference. But if we look at it closer keeping people out of hospital it seventy percent effective and i think ninety percent for the astrazeneca seventy and that's huge. That's going to make a big difference of either getting a small bump in hospitalizations or massive bump that we saw at the beginning of the in england it was in december. I don't think we're gonna see that again. How closely are you watching. What's happening in the uk. I mean they. They have had to halt the reopening plans. There are questions as to whether we should follow suit. The restrictions are lifting very quickly in many parts of this country. Should we be pumping the brakes as well. I don't think so. I certainly am watching. What's happening there because it's gets an idea of of the the movement of delta the characteristics of delta but this set to remember that we are in a different situation right now again with vaccine covered more and more various are gonna come. This is a societal question. Every single time we have a variant coming. Are we going to shut down the community or are we going to have faith in the vaccine's go to the areas. We know we're going to need help. Prevent things do good old fashioned infection prevention and control. And i think that's what we have to ask ourselves going forward if we're not going to have a situation where hospitals are overwhelmed. Then why are we shutting down the community. I think we still need to be careful with the reopening where. I think we should do it in a one way. Fashion and really start to move on with our a one way fashion but be careful. What does that mean that seems like to can divergent points of view. Let's put it this way. So i think that you know. I like the way that we're doing this. You know you're doing it in stages. What i'm saying is a once you've opened a stage. If you see a bump in cases you're immediately go back into restriction. You know we were going back and forth in the red the grays of back then but the other thing to remember is that we're not asking us to pack the the air canada centre right now but i think the we can still do is once we open up to a certain way..

"I saw them there. And since then we've seen them in toronto twice so he played in the open air stadium. Yeah once and then And then at the in a in a auditorium Air canada center in toronto. So i make the joke and it's only halfway joking right. There's two kinds of people that people go to their. First bruce show and go boy. That was long and the reality go. Oh my goodness had. I get to do this again. Category it sounds like the last concert we saw was in toronto. So my daughter and i went. She lives in toronto and I by the time. I got the tickets on that website The best tickets available were behind the stage and they were light. I dunno said like seventeen rose up gap little. Did i know that they remove a bunch of seats behind the stage right so we were in the first real behind the stage dead center behind max and it was an amazing perspective so we were dead center behind the stage. You can see the entire on a terrarium in front of you and you can see what he was seeing. The band was seeing and and you know they came back a couple of times but it was great. It was a it was just fantastic. I've heard from other people that actually that is a really good view because he usually will go back and way but you see the whole bad that prospective and usually. There's a monitor so you can kind of see as well. So that's great. Yeah yeah so anyway on I just posted a couple of days ago. I think on twitter gaffe came like it was like exactly five days since the february. The third concert draw five years. Yes the february third concert in toronto in twenty sixteen so I've got a bunch of pictures on there. All have to look at what your twitter handle. I think it's at pat enright or something and right or something like that. All right. i'll double check and make sure it's on there so you you sound like you've been a fan of a lot of music about that but is there. Can you articulate. What about bruce kind of spoke to you and why that why that passion while i like i love the rocking sound like the rocking sounds particularly when you know. He's playing his guitar. And our neal's or comrade overplaying Ghost tom jody wynn youngstown but But i think more so. It's the storytelling.

"Immediately on christmas morning when it opened up this gift. But we already have had the rumblings. I'm a new stadium Islanders plans to be official at some point. Twenty twenty one that they're like we're going for it. We have the approval from all necessary levels of government. We have the funding which obviously rogers does a ton of money. And i want them to announce where it's going to be Or maybe kind of like how they announced the skydome name when it was originally built fan submission for these are the available places in the city. Right now where we can put a stadium Whether it's on -tario place which is right down by the water right got the millfield or it's by there's a spot just east of downtown where there's a whole bunch of clubs and other stuff like that Be cool to have out there Wherever it is. I would like stadium plan to be announced at some point in twenty twenty one. Because i think that especially when you look at the canadian. Football league general there's been teams that have had old and decrepit stadiums for years and they finally have built new ones. I'm talking to schedule vancouver. Recently done a new stadium for the bbc lions. Which could maybe be a baseball place. One day from this diamondback edmonson is done renovations so therefore ball stadium winnipeg ottawa. All these places but toronto is only one that hasn't had a major stadium facelift or new one. Probably bima field was built. And that's starting to get old like it's getting close to twenty years since be field's been around so yeah it's been another for awhile when. Tfc air air canada center. Acc was nineteen ninety nine when the leafs in the raptors. A guy really no totally i. It's the most annapolis. Peter as recent as two three years ago. So bad no. I want a new venue. again anatomy. I know you touched on this. Going roger center is special for you especially for a lot of people and even people who can go all the time. It's still special for them as well. I'm not trying to be like it. It's crap like we need to get new immi but if they announced one soon i think it's something to look forward to whether that's in twenty three twenty twenty four twenty twenty five. I just think they could get so creative with it. Especially with the money and all of these new stadiums have been built in texas in in all these other Signed me up for a new ballpark agreed. Agreed it's it needs to happen. Some some sort of announcement at the very least rakers. This has already been sort of congress. Enough through rumors and whatnot and at some sort of official announcement of plans are where they plan to do it. Officially as well as hey. You wanna help name this. I think that would be fun. So long as i can participate in spokane contests that tied together. I agree that's true to a guys. That's three each guess onto do one more. What are you guys thoughts. I can do all more or more. All right adam yeah this. We'll do non baseball related for this one Twenty twenty nine degrees of years. And i'm not going to get started soliloquy here but i will say that twenty twenty one it has to be better right and maybe i'm jinxing it right now but with the new administration coming in. I'm not trying to get political administration coming in. I just really really want politics to be boring again. And i don't wanna look at people based on what their political leanings are. I want to be able to look at someone..

"There you go. Mastodon from two, thousand, nine, crack the sky? Interesting. Smarty Pants. Metal Band here. Completely completely fits this idea to a T- essentially. Relapse, they came out a relapse and relapse core. This whole idea of relaxed had a lot of these slide rule hippie math bands like super super extreme. Hard to get into impermeable but very prog, your complicated in they're playing. You always wonder how hectic and even remember all these parts live. On came out of this thing I almost almost from a almost from. A thirst for things more listenable out of relapse and they they you know remission two, thousand two. But the big one was Leviathan and also these great album covers with the with the sort of blue enrich brown's theme coming up but Leviathan was considered you know a great classic then they've kind of became the it band with with you know the likes of Blood Mountain and crack the sky they got on to reprise So you know onto the onto the minor rungs of major labels. But essentially, and and they've been prolific. They've kept putting stuff out. But their sound is so complicated. It's. Very, heavy but also Super Progressive Lot weird parts lot of weird dissonant You know chord changes and you know every every fail you get to the end of the fill. You know they may drop a beat they may add beat there they'll be they'll be fusion drumming. That's the big thing I I think ran dealer the drummer is you know he's he's very entertaining to listen to he's a very unique sound but there's so much going on on these records that but. They are essentially in this realm of extreme metal made palatable to Prague fans by being super super progressive at the same time but I gotTA. Tell you one thing about this band I. I played this band a lot when I'm out jogging but I can't play them in the car because if it's a summer day or whatever semi warm out and you've got the windows down of the sun roof or something, and you know if you're competing sound wise with what's going on You can't you can't make out the melodies and end. It's it's funny I remember working at banger films and a good buddy of mine Ralph Chapman. We were we were discussing prog. You know he's a massive prog fan and a super smarty pants music fan right forget smarty pants metal. He's more like smarty pants, music but. Super Super Knowledgeable Guy and we were discussing in playing some mastodon and and he had this kind of confused look on his face is like there's no melody there's nothing to grab onto and that's a really interesting idea because you know obviously there is melody all over the place with Mastodon but it it's fleeting and it's obscure and it's it's not repeated over and over you really have to play these records a lot to to start to process them and digest them but but yeah, completely this this band of again I I wanna I wanNA bring into this Concept. This idea of being geniuses, right? musical geniuses what you when you play these records you go I can't believe. You know it seems like they would have to take ten years between records to give these records out because they're so complicated and really interesting and fresh and need stuff going on but it's an inundation of information So it's it's pretty impermeable and I remember you know recently I don't know what even recently means anymore but A while back I saw mastodon support. Judas. Priest's. Air Canada Center in our big hockey. Barn here in Toronto and It really did go over the heads of everybody because that is not the environment for this. There's there's too many notes it's to note dance right So you know you give abandoned unforgiving acoustic environment like that and it's just it's gonNA sound like a big garble of. Latter Day? Instrumental King Crimson essentially so so yeah, it's you know so so here we go. Again at this idea of underrated you know it's a band that comes to lot of people's minds all master under. So underrated right well, I think I think they have made their bed and they understand that they can't be bigger than they are I mean they're probably incredulous that they were even on you know reprised right that that that they rose to any sort of major label status. Obviously, I didn't sell a ton records dating break massively but who who, who would think this would break massively right but having said that. METALLICA got big being super heavy slayer got quite quite big being super heavy in slipknot got quite big being superheavy, soda? Lamb of God right So you know it's not out of the question but this is really really progressive. Extreme metal is is what you get with Mastodon But. Yes you know. They always talk about our influences all we like thin lizzy and all this. So there is a certain sense of melody. It's it's not good Jiro or anything like that or or Siah plus you know it's it's still it's still got just that twinge of accessibility and certainly if you're progressive Progressive Rock Fan, that's it's got accessibility but you know underrated Yeah. underrated. If you're a crazy music fan and you love you know Super Genius High Level Einstein Music Sure but but not underrated. You know I think they got about his commercially big as they really deserve out there in the world but again. You know you look at the art world and very, very difficult art gets massive massive massive and sells for tens of millions of dollars. So why can't Super Super Difficult Music Classical, kind of work that way right but why can't super difficult music be seen as amazing amazing art that has tons and tons of value. It kind of isn't but I guess I'm just rhetorically posing that question, right? Okay. So our next choice take a listen this. This is.

"A rapid port of the NFL network join us to talk about training camp set to open more as speaking of sports returning. You saw a little bit of exhibition hockey last night. And you were jazzed. You were juice. You're going to be anchor of Canadian bacon. Our morning recap of the night That was the Stanley Cup playoffs. What you think about the action last night of the ice, So I caught a lot of the Penguin's Flyers game. And then last night, the Canadians made beliefs and I will just say this. Obviously, I am For any of these sports coming back the MBA Major League Baseball NHL. I'm going to show out. I'm going to be excited just because I love sports and miss sports so much but so far and I've enjoyed all of their returns the NHL to me on TV last night. Look, I think the cleanest and most well done of the other three. It looked like hockey felt lock felt like hockey. You realize the sounds of hockey the skates going into the ice, the pucks against the boards. All of that, I guess sound that is not crowd related still came across the same way it does. The crowd sound was pumped in And the way they have tarped over the seats and put up the screens similar away the MBA did. I just think place so well with the NHL camera angles, and I thought, also the team's on the ice. For those each being exhibitions. They're only getting one exhibition before the games become for really, for many of them elimination games. I thought the hockey looked like it was basically late March, and they were ready for the postseason. I'm shocked at how sharp it was, and it looked also on TV. I am jazz, though. You know what you realize is that baseball suffered the most from no fan to the building because baseball's paces so slow. That when it's When it's standing. Still, there's literally nothing happening. Nobody is saying anything. Nobody is moving and without fans in the stands. It feels really still In the end before when we've seen these exhibition games, you know guys are moving up and down the floor. You're hearing the squeaking of the sneakers. The video board that is on the back wall of your television screen takes up a lot of space. And then you're seeing the benches kind of spread out aloud along three rows on either side of the court. You don't get a sense that it's an empty arena. And NASCAR are you're not really watching NASCAR races with fans and four fans. You're hearing the roars of the motor. In fact, I was listening to NASCAR on radio a couple weeks ago, and you would've never known that there's nobody in attendance because you're not seeing it. You're just hearing the motors and hearing everything go around and around and around. And baseball suffered the most because you're saying in hockey The puck, the crashing against the boards. The goal horn. All of that stuff is just happening anyway. And if you tarp off the seas that we would normally see the glass the seats on the glass How would you even really be able to tell if you had artificial noise involved? That anything is different in baseball. That is so stark because you cannot ignore every part of baseball's camera shot shows you fans that are not in the stands. And when they're not doing anything, it is still and quiet and silent, But I'm I'm guessing that as you were saying, I didn't see it last night. But that hockey could carry itself, especially if you have a little piped in crowd noise. It does. I'm trying to compare everything. And the only baseball comparison you could have is, ironically, like an Orioles Marlins game where there'll be nobody there, and that's how it would look on TV for basketball has a similar look to how it would kind of look in the Olympics and for hockey Last night, it reminded me of an indoor version of the Winter Classic because you don't get any fans. For I mean, yards and yards along the hockey glass when you watch the winner Classic, and that is the one event that draws casual fans the hockey. So if that's the event you watch for the NHL every year, you know, tuning into this and not seeing fans on top of the ice. It just kind of seeing that space, even though it's so tightly tarped and perfectly done with the video boards is going to give you kind of a winter classic feel anyway. So in many ways, it's kind of like when I watched yesterday. I jumped right in and it felt like I've been there before, with hockey and not having the fans like that. I think that's because of the outdoor games, but yet mitt, it looked really clean and the sounds of the game. I think more than even the sneakers squeak in the MBA or there for hockey. Where, like that is just the natural sound you get anyway. It could be a big win for hockey here because, as you said, the TV product won't suffer, and they've got two different bubbles. And so you don't have to cram everything into one arena. So logistically you've got a little bit of space there. Both of the bubbles were a really great arenas. You know, this is well as anybody. Edmondson's arena is state of the art. It's absolutely gorgeous, and Toronto's is the epicenter of hockey being in Toronto, the Air Canada Centre. So where they will play will feel big time and they're playing in Canada, where inside a bubble. It's going to be really protected and safe because Canada's done a great job of limiting the virus. Well in Canada. And hockey that relationship a connection here is setting. Stanley Cup playoffs up for really successful run. I'm excited to cover it here on the show Excited of Alma rises, Canadian bacon. It's gonna be a morning segment where we have a goal of the game or goal of the night. A player And more as I hope that you're taking your your notes because I already have the production elements and it is amazing. You gotta live up to the production elements. I am extremely excited. In fact, I plan on again because there's a lot of games on national TV today. Scrimmages. You know, four o'clock seven o'clock. I'm kind of kind of do my own trial run in front of my wife a little bit later tonight just to see how she thinks it sounds because I am I am trying to take this seriously. It's a look. We had that that whole bit would alliance primetime. I know. And I know there will be a lot of people may be in the South not from hockey markets are on the rise going. Do we need the hockey segment, But I know About the hockey audiences, an underserved sports radio audience, and there are a lot of fans out there who are looking for this postseason, and I want to deliver to them even if its three minutes long the best damn three minutes I can and give some acknowledgement to we're gonna have a fun Stanley Cup playoff that I know A lot of people are excited for..

"On the network. Okay, Make sure you tune in tomorrow night for that Lets it thes phone lines up. They are burning. Let's go to Michigan right now and talk to Kevin. Kevin. You're on the J. R sport re show he wants CBS Sports radio. They only recently discovered your show and I really enjoy it. I think they'll be a start to the NFL season. I think to lessen the financial pains season will definitely start. But when we look at the embassy bubble, it's controlled atmosphere every year when we look at the NFL there two or three players who lose discipline of violate rolls, and I think it has serious potential, violating the rules and losing discipline to bring something very bad to the league being covert 19. That's what I'm afraid of what the NFL season That's a that's a very good point. And thank you, Kevin for calling up from Michigan. Call up any Tom. I'm glad you found this show. I'm glad that you're listening. That's a good point. And it's not. I don't I don't wantto Granted. We're talking about NFL players, but I don't wanna know Pickle on them. I don't wantto just poke at him and say, Oh, well, we know they're undisciplined. I don't think they're any more or less disciplined then than anybody else or any other human I mean, I can go through sweater right now and unfortunately, go through videos of Ah, you know, people just pitching fits. Just over matters of health. You know, I've already heard about n ba players. You know, they have to be reminded on Don't bring nobody into this bubble. He had a ball out. Stick toe stick. The basketball has put it that way. So you talk about the NFL. Yeah, they're gonna have the freedom to go and do what they choose. They might have to be tested every day. They might have to be tested every other day. And you would hope that the testing process works and that is expedient and that it's fast and quick doesn't take forever. And I think that's something else that NFL players. They're waiting to see whether or not we can go ahead and be tested and get the results right away. But this is the NFL. They're not playing games. They want that money. I can bet that that's not going to be a problem. Like Major League Baseball did throughout the holiday. Let's go up to Toronto, Canada, where the Blue Jays will not play this season. Let's talk to Tony. Tony, you want CBS Sports Radio. Do you think we're gonna have a full year? Yeah, I think so. Um, the reason that I feel that way is I hope that they'll have some kind of either a vaccine or treatment for this. So that hopefully should slow down the spread, if not eliminated completely of this. This virus. Ah, but that said, I think of the All the major league sports, Basketball and NHL did the best job. Ah, you know, they built their bubbles. And it seems there's been the the least amount of let's say bickering between the unions and the owners. So I recommend, you know, the commissioners of the presidents of you know those two leagues. I think they did a better job than Major league baseball and football, where they seem absolutely all of this bickering and talking about money and all of this other stuff. It's like N B A and NHL said Look, Here's job. Here's what we gotta do and let's work together to get it done. So I think you know I upped goes to leave while we're doing the better. Most. Definitely, Tony. I mean, I do have Ah, Ah, question for you. Are you confident? Let's let's be honest here when it comes down to the NFL. This season is set to start and let's say about a month and 1/2 You know, give or take. We're going to go through the month of August and we're going to blink and it is going to be bone. You know, NFL are right. I'm not a I'm not a doctor. I don't sit down in the lab. But all indications is that you know it would be. Ah, it's highly unlikely that over the next month that we have some type of a vaccine or cure that's going to keep players healthy. In about a month and 1/2 time, you know, write the what thing that has come to kind of Notice with this terrible cold thing That's going on that. The only certainty there is is uncertainty correct and from a positive uncertainty, Let's hope that what we least expect to happen, which is a treatment and a vaccine. Actually happens. Well, Tony I want to believe that you know what? All the sudden we're gonna get up one morning. All of us. It's going to be across the news that somebody either in the U. S. Canada, England wherever it may be. I have something that's going to be good protective and helped us all out. It is only back to normal for all of us. I appreciate your optimism, Tony, you be well. And you'd be safe up in Canada. Okay. You you to change air? Yes. You should come. Watch. Maybe. Ah. Once everything is back to normal. Ah, hockey game up here in Canada, where we'll meet, so you let me tell you, Tony, I I have been up in Ahh, the Air Canada Centre or what is it And I cannot wait. Toby back. So's as people know when I'm back in Canada. You stay safe, Tony. Thank you. You, too. Thank you so much as Toronto's a beautiful city. Truly international city, one of the best cities to visit I'd say not just in North America just here in the world. Love to get back up. There can't wait to hit the road again. Let's go out the Boise, Idaho and talk to Mick Mick, your CBS Sports radio, the jr Sport re show. What do you have thoughts on the full NFL season? You know, I I would I would like to say that I'm on the more I would like to say that I'm trying to be realistic instead of trying to be negative. But I I'd be very really with you. I feel that the NFL is going to go much of the way that our economy has tried to kind of restart. I feel like we're doing the best we can. At least they've got a view of this last three or four months to try to do something you got there, you know. The union's involved. We got a system. I just see it going like this. I'm glad we got rid of the preseason, but I see it going something like three or four games. And all.

"In command that kind of thing I remember when the Eagles started charging one hundred dollars for their ticket, and they were the most expensive ticket about ten fifteen years ago. and who would have ever thought that you know. Five hundred dollars would be a second tier price for most of these shows but it does come down to just consumerism, you know. It's unfortunate that those prices do exist but we as a society have decided that you know those people that can afford the better seats. The better boats, the better houses, the better anything. If they want to pay for it, they have a right to essentially cop up. That dollars in go I'm kind of afraid of. Dot kind of thinking unfortunately help stop a lot bands from making that leap from the clubs or places like the Phoenix. pleased that hold twelve hundred to make the jump to six thousand. Twelve, thousand, fifty thousand, because they're idiots just cannot afford for one hundred dollars to go see it which is why you end up with amazing artists like the indigo girls for you know play or he Thompson Hall. They'll play Massey Hall. Go play these really cool funky places. Keep their ticket down. Though because maybe they just come to the agreement that they just don't need three hundred million dollars in their bank account because. With sacrifices and with that sacrifices comes with different audiences loss of control but need to really expensive to put these these venues on, but you know you bring up a really interesting. Point you about once. We're out of this whole thing, maybe twenty twenty one. WHO's to say that a city late? Toronto needs to have all the venues in the first place. Know who's to say that the Air Canada Centre. God loved them Ed. Far be it for me to speak on their behalf. Who's to say that you needed nineteen thousand people in that place I? Get, that's what they have, but we may end up in a situation where that place might be eleven thousand, because the NHL and the world just dictate that there's no way that you could have thousand people in the same place anymore. That's there's no guarantees on anything you know I'm. Back to that whole Girona question of venues who? That Toronto. Deserve to have seventy five venues with music on any given night. I didn't. It just so happens. That's what we had, but if we can't sustain that okay, so we can't sustainable figure something else out. You know. Nobody deserves A. W deserves a career. You know what him. Nobody deserves to have your on stale. If you're a year, no matter how hard you work, nobody deserves to not have a plan B. do something in music because you're sacrificing. Who Cares how great your your songs? When it really comes down to house. Raise your food. How great is your clothing? We don't have time for good anymore. Defense Dote! "We can go a couple weeks ago and then not too long ago the sports world got a big kick out of the emergency goalie situation and the Tampa and Carolina game on a temple of Toronto in Carolina game the game was in Toronto at for the Air Canada centre on color may believe cards a new report what what sort of corporate entities go with it has their name on the building in downtown Toronto but any who Carolina's goalies I believe both quickly contracted the corona buyer virus they were unable to go so the emergency goalie protocol was and acted in a basically an employee of the Toronto arena put on some goalie gear went out there and help the Carolina hurricanes win that game his name is David Ayers forty two years old made the rounds in all of North America in terms of media appearances things of that nature but those of us who don't pay much attention to hockey people like me wondered aloud Hey why do I even have an emergency goalie situation why not just have more than two goals why not have a regular hockey player come in and be the emergency goalie seems kind of antiquated initial general managers got together to discuss the emergency backup goaltending protocol and they declined to make any changes to the procedure according to NHL hockey operations Colin Campbell director of hockey operations Colin Campbell it is a good human interest story I think the process works a general managers are fine with where it is at right now that play recorder I'm sorry the agency future one I do think it's funny could you imagine if that same rule exist in the NFL quarterbacks find other associated with the raiders stadium in Vegas will now come out he'll play for either team if they lose both quarterbacks water boy get the quotes I'm reading though it sure seems like the NFL is actually happy with the coverage they got out of this like a mention Ayers was on every late night show and every morning television news program in Canada and in the United States vintage vice president of communications Gerry Meagher said I think everyone realizes it's a great story for the lead to everyone realized the coverage was awesome so they there's a lot of those kind of quotes coming from NHL mucky muck they like the fact that they were getting positive coverage out of them that's how many times the Natty how may times that happen enough it happened ten times a year guess what they change it it doesn't happen ten times a year so they're not going to they're not going to think I'd change it so and the Democrats have to add base you have to add another roster spot and do what they do in the playoffs and have three goalies in the playoffs that three goal is not just too so short of that you know I I did did you ask the question Kruger Serrano Y. if you had to in a pinch just throw some dude right in an Aug let's in and goalie gear could you solve it or not that it's a problem but that's how you solve it not really matter let's say this was a playoff since all the plans you have to say once the playoffs and you could have I don't know Jill Fortin in a you know out there in net or whoever's associate associated with some arena in whatever hockey town you wanna throw out there I you know I don't know I guess I don't know and I've I'm not hiding grow Pataki I don't I don't I don't understand the nuances clearly but I don't know what I mean why would that not be preferred maybe is it would be preferred no I don't no one gets in the guide that that plays goalie probably has a leg up on until Gordon or anybody else because this guy does play I mean right he has played in these practice with them so he at least knows how to move and I made like eight saves you there ten saves sociology goals yeah he did do a lot of the first two and anything made ten straight save now with a hard stays with a I don't know but he got himself in a position to make those saves so clearly he knows how to play than any tell goaltender but he has played goalie finally here is given a guy's stick in some pads and saying go out there so I don't know how hard it is now if I were a regular player you ask her to play goalie thirty years ago with the pads they had to get out of here the better chance of getting in that yeah I got a blast me her mind our pots and I don't have any but these guys really fortified now they're like tanks UCLA guys a grooming Ken Dryden bag with the deals that are standing up and moving their feet side to side they have the you know the Jason hockey mask on and a stake in the by the looks like they were like my my my bye bye they the woman sweater with like shoulder pads in a like one of those ones you might like Macy's or stuff that they do the Murphy brown yeah it was like to get some it's a path and now it's like broken you got the pass identical twin I mean this is a massive bad so back then that a chance I would do it today you think they might be able to but again goalie could just be so much different than any other part of the game the guys are like dude I don't know what I'm doing I'm trying to you know read Chinese at here I get K. what we'll do is dad did dad dad dad do we have anybody that can do this yeah we're gonna do it up there that aware like have Carolina gear half maple leaf cure at least look like he knows what he's doing do you guys want to talk to wherever the emergency goaltender is for the S. A. P. center absolutely I mean I don't know what we really couldn't find out who he is and then get a hold of him so we could talk to but I did just popped in my head because I'm I'm curious just like you Tom like doubt it that's cool I did just to and we talked to drew remainder good friend you know about this last week but for the three of us sitting robot hockey didn't play hockey just to kind of hockey's a mindset manages it's just different they they're they're completely different added to the whole cultures does just different so to get some insight into that mindset because but it seemingly the majority of people who are in hockey and who care about hockey really like this emergency goaltender thing it's it's a big deal us and obviously not but it's a big deal to us much more so than it is today I think it's super cool to that so I think fanatics dot com and also the team site started selling V. thirty goalies Jersey the chasms airs I think up until they print out of Jersey with his name on the back and the whole deal and and they were selling it so the I think that's kind of cool I mean that's almost the man the Moncton just of the money went to charity so that was cool and if they like their rule in the in the nobody's got a problem with it a blessing they definitely like the positive publicity it gets that's what the initial really seems to be vibing on the most is that everybody's talking positively about their sport you know as opposed to well looking at all make it exactly supposed to hockey they still played yeah there are many good time good story just apologize you may now they want to do.

"They've got it all going on for them. Okay they're in a big market. They've sell out every freaking game. They got a they make a ton and ticket revenue. Everyone is wearing those jerseys and hats and scarfs and everything else. Their own network Got Their own network they got. They signed a bunch of great players players right that they have in the roster. They got unbelievable talent that they have there. So it's it's a great situation right. It's it's perfect it's perfect. Yeah Yeah but it's you know and but they haven't won a Stanley Cup since nineteen sixty seven and ah you're playing at a time where people forget that the league is growing exponentially since then. The talent is way higher. The game has changed a a lot over the years and You know the leafs of file as hard as anybody else can to get into the playoffs and make it you know. But there's not a better editors better deal going on and tell you WANNA fight you. WanNa you WanNa talk hockey all day long. We'll live in Toronto and they're going about it the right way right ownership wise. They're they're spending the money. They need eighty two part of the reason. They haven't won the Stanley Cup. Sixty seven is a guy named Harold Ballard who was basically trying to ring as much cash out of every fan as possible without having to spend very much money. There's been certainly lots of people who've made connections between the way Harold. Ballard ran his team in the way. You Gene melniks running team. But Harold Ballard is long in the rear view mirror and a guy like cow dubious the GM of this team. He's got the dream job because he can do what he wants to do. He can try and realize his vision and finances will never stand in that guy's way right also right also so they they built one of the greatest arenas of of all time high for hockey when they did the Air Canada Centre and they've got that whole pit in front. Where were they brought that to the fans we can go down right? They were kind of the original team right. That started that apparently the sports bar there is out of this world. I've never I've I've never been there but the play that's right uh-huh or the bar that's right on the same so they've done everything they do everything for the fans right. That ain't a bad deal if you're living in that city that that ain't a bad deal you know but all that means ship unless you win a Stanley Cup point is they're doing everything they can dan for the fan degree doing everything they're doing everything right like from right when I say for the bigger arena to Merch to sign players to get a great coach all that all that stuff but you know what what people are forgetting is it's it's fucking hard man to win. It's hard in manage all right you need you need. Anyone will tell you Steve. Anyone will tell you who won the Stanley Cup when they when they try and summarize what how how they're year wasn't how they did it they will always say always that there was a certain amount of luck luck comes from referee calls that comes from the bounce of the puck. We've all seen it big scramble in front of the Net and you know nine times out of ten. It'll scoot harmlessly in the corner. I'm talking about the PUCK. Or then one time to slide slide over right onto some guys tape. And he's got an empty net certainly luck plays a factor in it and all you can do as a as a as an organization is to put the right people in place. Have the people. Apple may great decisions on player personnel in factoring everything in their talent. The chemistry of those players together are the right kind of mix. Because I think that's part of what's wrong with the lease right now. There's like almost too much commitment to the skill guys and not enough on you. Know the hard labor stuff the dirty work The edge guys so anybody Lebed you put all that together and you get things just so so perfect will now. All that does is put you at a poker table of about nine or ten other. NHL Teams who've done exactly the same thing. Done everything the right way and now your plan in now it's crap shoot you just don't know if you've If you're going to get the breaks you need all you can do is basically get a seat at that table in. You've kind of done your job after that. Yeah and when I say luck Steve is it goes far beyond good bounce of a puck and I mean there's an refereeing goes way beyond that when we when we went on that road trip for example apple at four game where we had to go on we ended up facing two teams. Who who suffered a bunch of injuries you know right? It's it's like you got no control over. That injuries are in there too. Yeah so yeah you need you need a bunch of Shit to happen from other teams. You know if if if you think of if you interview hockey coach through the week after every game sale CEOS say you look at ten ten post game interviews from coach. Okay if you'RE GONNA if you're gonNA tick boxes where he said what they need to do to win. Okay you're going to get ten different things so you know you're going to get well. We goaltender has to sharpen up. We gotta be better on the power play our power. Are you know the kill is not very good we need. We need production from our bottom. Six are superstars. Step up a little bit We need more chemistry. You guys gotTA stop taking dump penalties Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah. You know on and on and on all real stuff which shows you in the end. It's like fuck. Do you have to have a lot of shit going your. You're way to win games. You know you know what I mean. Yeah for sure. I think the crux of what's happened in Toronto. Though after everything we've talked about it does us to some degree come down to youth and new ideas versus the older people and older school ideas and both can work but I don't know if they can coexist anyway. I'll tell you what if I'm kyle do business. I'd like to sit down. Brendan Shanahan this morning and discuss his comments. Comments about the firing of Mike. Babcock okay so when you fire coach Steve. Obviously you have put some onus on on the coach you can't okay so have you put this on the coach while the answer is yes they did because they fired mm-hmm okay naturally so after they do that they interview Shannon and he says we're introducing this new coach Kief life and now the onus is on the coach Noll now the oldest is on the players Shanahan says and I will. Aw I if I'm doing what wait a minute you know. which is the reason why? The onus is on the coach coach Karl. That's why we fired the coach. You know so we need some performance here out of the coach. Yeah I think that's a bad choice of words because I know what you're saying for sure he should should have been saying so it might have been saying something along the lines of if there's any finger pointing to be done from here on out It'll probably be against the players but it is hurt in opening the door that they didn't know what they were doing their guessing. This Babcock's fault. Yeah I just like the oddest thing I've ever heard you know that's a Uh we got our new coach because we'd like to. We'd like to think he can win a some hockey games. Now you know yeah for sure. I mean it's pro sports. The onus is on everybody to do their jobs but I think that's what he meant is like if we were wrong and we shouldn't fired the coach. Well if it's the same story oriented new head coach then. Obviously we need to start thinking about changing up the players because they're obviously the problem and not necessarily the coach which is a dumb thing to you say because it makes it sound like potentially fired. Mike Babcock without knowing he's the problem. Yeah there can't be a worse things for an organization is Asian. When you've got you've got the talking about the leafs here? So you've got these superstars right Marin Aaron Austin Matthews Burson and whoever else is playing well right now on the team and and and perhaps they're playing okay and yet you're losing games right. Okay Fuck what what do we do now. You know yeah it's like it's like having pitchers on a baseball team where they're era. Hey It's like point zero zero two and these guys are you know five and ten the start of the year. I'm doing my part. You know. So and what do you do. If you've got a bunch of muck on a team like Saint Louis did all of a sudden you're winning games and shit like that. This is the the best thing ever. I think the problem wasn't a coach. Toronto I got a feeling Steve that they're gonNA fire to coaches in the same year. Really the Toronto Maple leafs. Yup What are you GONNA do. Now what are you GonNa do now that you should've I should've wrote it out a little longer with babcock. Pardon me right that I I think you should do the forty game thing and see where you're at so now you fire this great coach supposed to be early and you've got this guy coming in on okay. What what's what's he gonNA do? Yeah right Okay we're GONNA take a time out here and we'll talk more on about the Mike Babcock firing in just a second first. Let's get to our heads up for Friday November twenty second your sports schedule as sends hosting the Rangers. Sixty seven's are back in action on November twenty third hosting Mississauga. "And now the low post, welcome to the low post podcast live from very high floor of a hotel in San Francisco, California, where somehow after a game that was surreal, sad thrilling and experienced Alexa, which you and I will never have we are here, and it is time to say, the three most exciting words in Nisha basketball, podcasting? What are back, what up also in nature basketball? Podcasting stabbing got some corrections on that, which should never attempted again. So so here we are. We're going to game six. We'll talk about game six later because true NBA fashioned, the finals is about the third most important thing going on, even though this is the series which decides the NBA champion, which is the whole point of this, this extravaganza this league and everything like that. Where forty eight hours of past almost I honestly have forgotten where we are. I don't know what date is. I don't know what time it is. I don't know what time zone we're in. I do know you have a spectacular view of this high floor. While Howard, you don't host the Lobos podcasting for floor. Okay, pal. You get twenty six hosting the niche basketball. I have reached the stage where I'm trying to open my hotel room with keys from other hotels, I've keys from other hotels, just sitting in my backpack, and it's like, I ain't a finding like a year to the airport hotel. I don't want to throw it away. I'm going to be at another seventeen thousand different. Mary, I'll just return it. But then I just stays in my bag and I forget, so I just have a nice collection. So here's my. Here's a confession. I it did not register to me that raptors fans were cheering when Kevin Durant was yes, I'm glad you brought this up because I was getting killed on Twitter. So here's why here's what happened a minute, before Kevin Durant got injured. I looked at the video box score next to be on press row. And it turned to TIMMY, good times Bon temps Hussein next to me, and I said, Kay Di's already played eleven minutes. Does that strike you as weird? That's a lot of minute. He's only been thirteen minutes in the game has already played eleven. It's of now would expect. It. And then he goes to drive on surge Baca. I'll never the image is going to be seared into my head forever. I know exact- I can picture the angle, I was sitting to my left Kevin Durant falls to the ground. The gasp across the press. Row audible. Same with ours. Stand up and lean forward to get a better view. What happened in for about two minutes? I nothing else is registering to me other than what's going on, with Kevin. Durant is you walking. No, he's not walking. What Steve Kerr's expression? What's Rick celebrating the doctor is expression. What's happening? So the fact that raptors fans were cheering I just blacked out everything except the image of maybe the best player in the NBA, someone who is on pace to be one of the ten greatest players ever at worst has just crumpled to a heap in a gain. That was all about should he come back. And now the answer. The question has been answered for us in the worst possible way. So I didn't even I didn't even register it. I'm glad you brought this up because I had the same basic spirits. You did. I know where you were sitting you're a couple sections, down from where I was I was more like endzone sex in one sixteen Air Canada center. That's my home. I was one fourteen and so mine was more of a straight on view down the court from the end zone and same thing. So he goes down audible gasps across our section of press row. And I'm like over my mouth literally like going. Oh, no..

The Spurs turn the ball over ten more times than did the rafters and part of the problem was the Spurs worn on the same page. A lot of time. Some of these turnovers were forced, but most of them were just not on the same page type of turnovers, and that really hurt the Spurs in fact up D'amoto Rosa was charged with five turnovers disabling Rudy gay with four lamarcus Aldridge with four. So they're in your starting five dollars per time said to and a single one for Bryan Forbes the bench only committed one turnover, but the rest of the make a two for the rest of the turnovers eighteen of them committed by the Spurs starters. Four lamarcus Aldridge eleven points in three boards for Brent Forbes only two points. Dobbs protons you play twenty four minutes, but only took two shots here. Two points. And I've boards off the bench eight point eight four Jaka Pertile and Marco belly seven for Patty mills and Dante Cunningham with three two late points for drew Eubanks who came in the final moments of the game.
