They add that the airflow and cabins goes from ceiling to floor, so an extra barrier isn't necessary. Officials also say the seatbacks provide protection for passengers. WestJet says it is beefed up cleaning and sanitizing as well as introduced mandatory temperature checks of all passengers with a requirement that all passengers and crew wear masks. Air Canada says it will also end seat restrictions at the same time is West

ALPA Wants FAA To Enact COVID Rules

"Alba wants. Faa to enact Kovic Rules Alpa of course is the Airline Pilots Association. He and Max t we've seen that Alba's got some thoughts on compliance to CDC recommendations. I think last week we talked about one of the first airlines to announce their mask rule for passengers. And I think a lot of other airlines fell in quickly behind that and I thought this was a really interesting point. Alpa is making which is at right. Now there's kind of a patchwork of processes used by different airlines. And if you think about it you might be changing aircraft one airplane. You have to wear a mask another. You don't want airport. You have to wear it from the time you enter the building of the report. You don't. These are the kinds of inconsistencies Breakdown you know the safety procedures that we have and so they're just saying let's make this all uniform and to me. That makes a heck of a lot of sense They mentioned by the way that Air Canada's going to start checking all passenger temperatures starting may fifteenth. I'm not sure what kind of devices are going to use for that. But I guess that makes sense. Yeah absolutely David you might have some thoughts on Having consistency in terms of safety requirements across airlines. You think or. Do you think this the airlines should each decide on their own. What they think is most appropriate. Well you know I wouldn't be called renegade aviator if I didn't Throw a little bit of A matchstick on the fire here. Once in a while I do believe in standardization. However the airline business is a business and These co vid roles restrictions. Whatever you WANNA call them. They're all over the ballpark and they're going to continue to be that way. What I'd like to say. And I think the quickest way to bring back the passengers is to let the free market decide

Fleet retirements spreading far and wide

"Some things are happening a lot of great things. Unfortunately we continue with the theme such as it is in our corn teen state so phase. One of all of this was figuring out what the hell was going on that lasted. I think I WANNA say early. To mid March into April. It was back when we still had a chance of tracking what the Hell is going right. And then April turned into service reductions or finalizing service reductions making them more less ad hoc hall say and figuring out how airlines. We're going to operate in this new environment and then dealing with how to do. We continue to operate these cities. Do we continue to operate these aircraft and things like that and now that airlines have had some time near on two months to SESA situation a lot of airlines have started saying aircraft that where on the way out that we were considering possibly not having flypast date are gone? And the latest. Today is the Virgin. Atlantic fleet is shrinking measurably as the seven. Four seven are gone. They will not fly again. They're parked and they will not be returning and actually that is a bit more than just a seven four Sevens Virgin Atlantic is in dire straits at this point and they have withdrawn from London Gatwick Airport entirely at this point. It will keep the thoughts in hope that when demand picks back up it will resume flights at Gatwick. But who knows when that is? It may or May Not Happen Virgin Atlantic may or may not be airline in a year. I hope it is but we shall see but for now any of those fights that still operate will be operated out of Heathrow instead of Gatwick and don't be a I believe the other day is also said they're axing service from Gatwick so Gatwick not looking too good right now. Is it no? It's not an version saying they'll keep the slots is dependent on whether or not they're allowed to keep those slots so I think that'll be something interesting to watch whether or not that puts be a in a position to maybe get a better deal out of it or if anyone else wants to met jet blue once upon a time would have paid a princely sum for those thoughts but M- assuming those transatlantic desires are no more but we will see in at the same time virgin reaffirmed that it will be retiring. It's eight hundred thirty two hundred that I believe it acquired from the demise of Air Berlin in twenty twenty two as planned. So that's what a ten eleven aircraft headed out. Sizeable Chunk never small fleet and seven immediately. So that's pretty a pretty big drop off and then there's what happened at American. Were pretty much. If it was an older aircraft is grounded indefinitely and permanently retired. Gone are the seven. Six Sevens gone are the seven five seven. Jason I are actually looking into purchasing one. Beer can go on exactly gone. Are the nineties and gone are the CR J two hundreds operated by PSA? So that's another sizable chunk. Yeah none of. This is particularly surprising. The seven six seven fives and Iwo Ninety S. We're all slated to be retired sooner rather than later within the next year or two. Actually I believe we're missing the eighth HR thirty three hundred from this lists. Yes let's see. I wanted to be missing one and we'd get yelled at if we forgot it. So it's seven seven seven five seventy one ninety eighth three thirty three hundred not the two hundred and the CR J two hundred so those were all especially the ninety s and eighty three threes. Those were rumored for years now to be retired but now we finally know for sure those will be parked and almost certainly will not fly again as passenger aircraft. I would say the very good chance. Seven six get a new lease on life as freighters the seven. Fives have no idea. The nineties are interesting. They weren't that but American. Just had no place in. Its fleet for them. So what might happen to though? I do not know some. You went ninety S. The nineties are far too young to join the Pech mortar fleet. I mean we don't really look at anything beyond debates at this point. I look forward to the introduction of this seven to seventy or fleet one day one day. We'll get there. Were still a four engined for all as I like to say interesting so yeah American also recently last year. If you listened to the podcast you know that they retired the the mad dog the eighties with a huge amount of fanfare out in. Roswell these aircraft will not be getting such a party or celebratory retirement. Unfortunately the the tone this year is a bit different Disney it. It's a single line in a press release is what it is and maybe that's okay these days. I don't know there will be no party. Just a somber press release. Meanwhile north of the border up in Canada Eric Cannata will be retiring. Seventy nine aircraft including the seven six seven eight three nine thousand nine hundred and the e one ninety all of which are out. Oh no fleet immediately. Love No love for the ninety. Well no I don't know if the seven six seven in the eighth nineteen out in Malibu just ninety out immediately yours is unclear to me is being reduced anyway and yeah but this is particularly interesting because the seven six seven is rouges. Only wide-body aircraft rouges Air Canada's low costs unit so this affects rouge pretty hard. The bulk of its fleet is eight hundred. Nine thousand nine hundred seven six seven. They also have some three thousand three twenty ones but this will leave. Air Canada without a wide body fleet to operates mid haul and long haul flights especially transatlantic. So I don't know what happens to rouge in the future. Does it limit to just North American flights and the Caribbean? Or what? Well I think two things one. I'm not sure that the seven six seven hundred nineteen phase out effects rouge entirely. Oh it does that. It's that literally. Okay if you add the numbers up it is every facet. Every three nineteen equals Air Canada. Plus ruse got it so in that case. Here's what I say to you. Air Canada said that they're going into hibernation mode for three years. I mean they've been not terribly optimistic. Run off with. I mean but I think it's going to serve him. Well I really do. I think it's going to serve them. Well they're coming out with their. I forget what they branded it but cleaning promise and how they're sanitizing the yeah. Yeah and so. I think that in these times perhaps pessimism is warranted. If not only because it's probably a more accurate sentiment but I think that it sets you up for being pleasantly so I would much rather be pleasantly surprised that I have to bring more planes back from the desert than I didn't put enough planes into the desert and now I'm a very curious position. Yeah we'll see what happens. Nobody knows every crystal ball is pretty fuzzy at this point. I mean I think at this point that have all been taken smashed on the floor. I think they're parked out in the bone yard parked at crystal balls out in the desert. A boy anyway in the rundown fleet retirements sustained north. Yeah this is not a huge surprise. Alaska Airlines has decided it will not bring back the eight nine teens. It acquired from Virgin America which it never really wanted in the first place. They never refurbish those aircraft. They were actually still sporting the Virgin America Interior. Those are parked and will not be fine under the brand ever again. Hopefully somebody picks those up one day someone will perhaps explain to me and we can do this on the podcast. Or if anyone just wants to write an email to podcasts two four dot com I will spring for a meal or something if anyone can convincingly explain to me why Alaska Bought Virgin to screw jet blue route network. I mean that just enough reason. It was a fleet. It didn't want interior product. It did not want employees did not want really just wanted to make sure jet blue did not get all of the above guy. Yes so yeah. That's the three hundred are gone but that was probably going to happen regardless and then last but not least I think gun laws. Were missing anything right now. In the last two weeks Qantas Seven. Four seven will not be returning to the skies nor will some of the eight hundred eighty s probably. Maybe they've stopped the refurbishment process on the a three eighty. So there were six done and six to go. They've parked a few the a three eighty S. And so how many of those come back and when nobody knows nope but the seven four seven are in fact done for. That was rumored to be happening when they did there. I think the fly by on their last commercial flight with it that actually had passengers but it will not be coming back so and those were the special seven four seven. Four hundred ers were unique to Qantas. Yeah I mean. None of this is surprising. No but that also means that's the end of an aircraft type. Yeah worlds ahead and thought about it. Take that so. That's the first. It's not just Qantas grounding the seven four seven four hundred. Er they were the only airline that ever had that. So unless some other airline that Baltia maybe picks up four hundred Er. That's it that Avatar Avatar hats right. So I'M GONNA go.

H. and turbulence hall that Air Canada flight was and that's something else that I worry that did better than any other story of this week was on tourism particularly this one how Kailua became a tourist town and it's terrific if by Stuart you're doing and it's it's not a glowing report it it's a very critical look from from residents business owners saying how they have become over run by tourism Alex really transformed talk about quality of life in that what was once a sleepy when word along town was there an execution as to why this has changed for them well sure did a pretty deep dive in a lot of it has to do with the owners of much of the the retail commercials own space income the only that would excuse me Kyla Conneely rants that had it and I think Alexander and Baldwin later look that over and because of that there is a lot of shops I mean within just a a mile or two you can hit for grocery stores are like a state where cops not cosco whole foods the food Lana times all right there in the same place I mean how can you possibly survive with all this competition and there has been definitely a lot of Japanese tourists which is a mixed blessing you know you want the money you want to have people visit but you don't want to have streets over crowded with people riding bikes and so it's a it's a mixed bag but in on the cynical position here being is that there was money to be made and money was Medicaid and now we're not really only now are we started to wrestle with the social cost of that even people of moved away from cry little who said you know that's not the town I grew up in it's interesting when you mention a and B. is that in some of the other social media postings that I follow that people are lamenting the role that a and B. has played in Kailua and there are some who are long time residents that exactly put the onus on a and B. specifically for the dramatic changes and on the unfortunate lack of accommodation for the increase we had just man this goes back a couple years Chad where folks were complaining and concerned about bicyclists there was just this incredible increase and bicyclists who don't know the rules you don't know how to follow you know traffic laws and all that it was becoming quite a safety issue okay I will just say one of two things in a and B. for fanservice did buyout Conneely ranch I I forget the exact time line but they're fairly recent customer at least in some of that and they are aware of this and other problems I think one of the most examples is the the the bowling alley there hi Lou and everyone to tear down and residents oppose that I know that and be a sensitive to that but you mentioned by it's funny the lead photo on our series on on Kailua is someone riding a bike you know what those bikinis those blue rental by right if there is something to that where we are not even though we should be we are really not a bike friendly island although there has been a lot of bike lanes added I think there's still a lot of resentment for folks like on king street right you have a lot of people that don't like that at bike lane were rare we love cars we love trucks but yeah there are people that don't quite know how to ride a bike and certainly not in a a pretty congested community I'll tell you which at Blair of course covering topics of interest that affect us here at home and you're dialed in to this so the addition of community matters my name is Rick quemada one of the stories and we're sharing our conversation the day before construction begins on the T. and T. Chad and I'd like to get your take as we have a bit of a preview of tomorrow morning yeah has there are already protesters up there on the mound on the Big Island nothing Ryland going on but this is just checking social media in some news reports the actual instruction by construction I mean moving the equipment and the men of the strip men and women the supplies the workers up to the construction area and come Monday morning at seven AM the access road the what the road that goes up to the summit the visitor center many people gone there offer the saddle road right we now call the Daniel can only Robert things to remember this is al wrote the the authorities are not going to let anybody go up that road and and they want these protests to be non violent the ACLU just sent out a notice encouraging both the protesters and the authorities which includes you know the department when an actor resource at the National Guard is going to be involved were all sort of on pins and needles to see whether that's going to turn out to be the case but if we look back at what happened four years ago when the protests back down and the arrest there were dozens of people arrested stop the construction forced this issue back in court I guess what I'm saying is if past is prologue or it could be quite a quite a dramatic situation and and I think both sides are planning court we're sending a reporter and photographer over to to the probably already there by now even as we speak and we also have a a stringer on the Big Island it is going to be the center of the universe your whole life the news reporting very controversial issues science versus culture versus religion versus employment jobs it's got it all except I don't think there's any sex involved but a lot of other things involved while some may be as some may allude to that since Jason Momoa has been very visible so yeah but you know it is a serious matter hi the those who support PM team believes it's the telescope will be further science our understanding of the universe our origins and those who feel that on the care the temple that is the sacred place that there should not be such a large signs of big foot print one that some argue is ecologically damaging as well there's no shortage of arguments and I am certain it will be the biggest story for us to deal with it may even supplant the Caillaux this the top or free one would be hopeful and purposeful that that would be the case what if you wouldn't mind we have a few minutes before time is up is that you did outline that there are many aspects to this story and I'm very reticent to say this is the right this is the wrong this winter this is a loser I don't believe that's an appropriate tack to take however this is not a new story this is something that we have gone through for a decade plus and there has been public hearings and vaccines and protests and legislative and executive decisions that have led us to where we are today so Chad is it possible to even summarize how this issue began before we see it manifest tomorrow well to try and keep it is extinct as I can remember we've the telescope issue goes back to the nineteen sixties and Lee said telescopes and protest about telescopes were around that time up to the present day there are I think currently about thirteen hello scope I'm not sure of the exact number some of them by the way are gonna be decommissioned this part of the T. M. T. deal but you are right TGM team deal in particular has been going on for a little more over than a decade and it's gone to the courts it's gone through the regulating agencies even as we speak the people that oppose Dante who sometimes are referred to as protectors they're back in court there right now trying to get a T. R. O. to stop things from going they they say that a certain financial requirements security bond is not been met but the governor's position and the position of the Attorney General and of the land board used in case I am GMT and university of why is we've gone through the process we've we've crossed all that she's got it all the eyes it is legal it is proper if necessary and it's going forward the governor is you said it's it's not gonna be like last time and that's what I expect will be a huge security presence and I'm expecting a lot of arrest be Frank yeah Chad Blair with this civil beat dot org and you'll be able to hear Chad are every morning on my program newsradio eight thirty KGH every Monday through Friday for that we appreciate the time and effort thank you chat welcome back anytime other topicality in the remaining moments that we do have we did briefly refer to tourism and how tourism is tending to change a bit here in Hawaii hi this is found on civil beats site how are we changing chat yeah the other story that Stewart road yeah I'm just gonna read a headline sure as to store your terrific reporter for US ten million visitors can Hawaiian survive its own popularity in this story as well the card Lewis story are part of a series that we call the tipping point and with ten point two million terrorist I believe as a figure expected this year can we really handle more because there's a couple of sobering facts even though there are more tourists they're actually spending less money and one of the reasons they're spending less money is because of the short term lentils yeah the congestion that I mentioned about the roads that are ripped up by all the extra people they affect not only the Taurus but the residents themselves so this series tourism stepping point is really asking some fundamental questions about hate doing that cap things do I need to charge more to visit certain sites in order to take care of their maintenance what other restrictions are there to make sure that Hawaii is not overthrown when I moved here in nineteen eighty nine I think it was about five point six million tourists moved here to live and visit as a kid now it's it's nearly double that thirty years later and you can just kind of see where this is going can we handle it and it's a pretty provocative series that's been doing great in terms of our traffic you know there are other locales around the world that have put those limitations on and I know Venice Italy yeah right one that's prominent in that regard do you believe that this is a possibility Chad to where we would impose various restrictions in order to come and visit us I don't see how you stop what essentially capitalism and we did business it it's it if you can make a lot of money off of it I think what you can do is you can make it so costly were it will actually force people to to look to go elsewhere because it costs a lot of money to get on the plane it costs a lot of money around the hotel to rent a car we have taxes the gene G. the T. eighteen it's not she did go to Hawaii challenges as the it's a beautiful place and we all love that I think what a store is talking to win here some officials he's saying can you for example charges being when someone goes to hike a trail start to do things like that can you limit the number of foot traffic maybe on climbing diamond head they can be quite time this lady is madness are there ways to have an infrastructure in place to mitigate these things but I don't think you can stop tourism I don't think you can actually legally say but that's that we had ten million I'm sorry Mr ten million and one you're going to be on the plane and go right back right having said that that certainly sounds appealing to me but I think you could find a way to make it to mitigate the concerned in one quick thing the whole Airbnb as I mentioned has really made it possible for people to come tell why and have a less expensive experience it has been as always a pleasure to spend time with Chad Blair on this edition of community matters generally always want to make sure that we connect how about that invitation one more time sure will be dot org that's one word show will be say that all the time but it really helps civil as in B. several of B. as in the beat.

"Blue. Has also North American low-cost carry that wants to do transatlantic service, while westjet is going full on premium product on a wide body jet blue will be doing a tweaked version of their narrow body products. So very different styles here. Yeah. It'll be interesting to see how those two styles developing, and I think, westjet were they using their max transatlantic from the east coast of Canada may for like a minute. Yeah. In while debts on hold at the moment. So, but it it'll be interesting to see kind of how, how that develops in what onyx does the other end, I would say more interesting from a market development perspective. Is that Air Canada wants to buy air set? Yes. So there is not much competition in Canada. So this one is going to receive in inordinate amount of scrutiny. I think his air transit right now is a major player in the fact that they do fly in a good number of transatlantic routes. They fly a very good number of Caribbean routes down to Florida, so Air Canada's snatching up air transit. Is going to be a big deal in kind of turn for all intensive purposes, at the Canadian aerospace seen into really a duopoly. I think yeah, I'm is first full service carriers go, especially in an with, I don't, I don't wanna say swoop, the low cost west as low cost care or ultra low cost carrier, I guess, kind of death future in, in question, or, or at least how they address that as they go private. You're left with basically what Air Canada Rouge, yet, which is just Air Canada. Yeah. I mean, so it's, it's one of those things that the market is kind of up for grabs, I guess, but it'll be interesting to see, you know, it does. Somebody else try something in Canada. It's possible. It's been done before never really successfully. So what happens now there have been plenty attempts in the recent past but nothing seems to work in Canada. So. So it's yeah, I mean, it'll be interesting to see whether or not Air Canada's whether the regulators, allow the purchase to go forward, or if there's some sort of development required or, or something like that. But if it does go forward, it'll be interesting to see what they do with the Transat fleet because you've got eighty three tens on the way out, which one of the last carriers operating a good chunk of three tenths for passenger, configuration. And then you've got a three twenty one Nieto's on their way in. Yeah. They have the eight hundred twenty one Neil ilar. I think there I was put into service last week. I believe which has a very nice Roddick's. Yeah. But they also have these three thirties in this super rare dense configuration of three, three three, which is very much, not a premium product. That's very squishy. I would not want to be on that, but varies Russian I like, yeah. Right now Air Canada's actually leasing those aircraft due to the max max. Founding. So it it is weird. Maybe they just integrated into Rouge. I'm not quite sure will we'll have to wait and see. But we'll stay in Canada to congratulate Airbus and bombarded by I should say on Airbuses twelve thousand aircraft live. What was it? It was a two twenty. But I bet it said series on the door. I mean it, it probably said a lot of things on the door. So who to go to? I think delta, delta. Yup. November one one three Dairy Queen Derek NATO the NATO official Nate right? Yeah. Deion. Dean cure definitely Dairy Queen and one one three delta Quebec is the registration of the twelve thousands aircraft delivered by Airbus. So I don't know what the eleven thousand hundred was I know the ten-thousandth was a three fifty four Singapore. But I have no idea what the eleven thousand.

"Okay, max, he left us alone. You ready? Do the news do you think we can handle this? We're about to find out. All right. Well, our first story comes from the Washington Post dot com. NTSB fault, Air Canada, pilots for last year's near disaster. Okay. Last year's near disaster was what Mack? Well, this happened to my backyard here at San Francisco. When Air Canada flight seven fifty, nine. Nearly touched down on runway. Pardon me on a taxiway which had four fully loaded aircraft waiting to depart, the SP had their final meeting, which they released their probable cause and recommendations. And they also gave more details about just how close this close coal really was. Also, it's kind of interesting. There was some disconnect between what the the crew kind of remembered versus what actually happened. And so terms of how close it came, the crew said that they thought that they were. About four hundred feet above the taxi way when they're initiated, they're go around data shows actually that they were just eighty nine feet above the ground when they initiated the go around and that the airplane continued to descend to minimum of altitude of sixty feet before it actually began to climb and staff estimates there for that flight seventy nine was approximately ten to twenty feet above the tails of the aircraft on the taxiway. So it just doesn't get any closer to that. I mean, if you do the math, literally, if they'd probably been a second later in initiating the go around, this could have possibly been one of the largest disasters with hundreds and hundreds of people potentially killed. So it was actually the first time the NTSB investigated an incident that didn't evolve an aircraft actually landing on the runway. In other words, they've never investigated ago around before, but since this one was so incredibly close, they did. And so the NTSB determined the probable cause the incident was quote the flight crews, miss. Fixation of taxiway. Charlie is intended run landing runway, which resulted from the crew members, lack of awareness of the parallel runway closure due to their ineffective review of the no TAM's which was the information they got before the flight. And during the perch briefing also contributing to the incident, were the flight crew's failure to tune the Islas frequency for backup lateral guidance, which was required expectation bias that they were looking at the correct runway of fatigue, doodoo circadian disruption and length of continued wakefulness and breakdown crew resource management. And they also said that Air Canada's had an ineffective presentation of approach procedures and not them information. I watched the entire hearing over the web on Monday the twenty fifth and twenty four. And so one of the things I noticed was that the note them system was really mentioned a lot by board members during the meeting. One of them said, quote, note them system was really messed up. And other ones said, I wrote down other ones. Only a software programmer would understand that is not the way that they were written and NTSB staff member estimated that would have taken the flight crew about twenty minutes to thoroughly read and understand all of the notes that were issued for flight seven fifty nine. Now there was some discrepancies in terms of how many pages of notams they had to read through, but it was apparently at least a ten pages of notes. And the real problem was that almost all the information looked like it was of equal priority. So it was pretty hard to, you know, instantly see that the runway was closed or to even then calculate the times because that runway closure actually occurred only about two hours before their arrival. So had just happened max'ed describe for for some of us non-pilots what's in? No, damn sure notice to airman. So anytime there is some type of Queant that's out of service, you know, such as a VR navigate. Aide. Anytime there's any type of taxiway closure are one way closure, anything that could affect a pilot flying of flight. Those kinds of things get listed as notams. I heard from a number of people after I posted a blog article about this about how broken pilots view this system. It is a system that dates back. I'm guessing, well, in excessive sixty years, and it's kind of like reading code. It's not. It's not in plain English, and it took choirs a fair amount of deciphering. So it's it's it's a system..

"What grabs your attention out there in the world of travel. Well, a lot of news this week a lot of news this week. No question about it. You may remember that near collision at San Francisco's airport of an Air Canada three twenty that almost landed one night on an active taxiway taxiway runway. That's where planes are waiting to get to the runway planes were loaded with passengers on that taxiway waiting for permission to take off and this plane. Well, it was coming in the wrong place. Obviously, the National Transportation Safety board just issued nineteen findings one of which was the pilot fatigue and pilot error would to be blamed to be blamed the pilot had been awake for nine thousand nine hours as the plane approach. The first officer have been wait for twelve hours in the NTSB said that current Canadian regulations because it's an Air Canada flight don't in many cases, allow allowances make enough allowances for arrest. Time for the cockpit crew in that twenty seventeen incident pilots were confused because one of the two parallel runways at San Francisco is closed. If a pilot on the ground waiting to take off hadn't seen the incoming Air, Canada plane and warned the control tower, the death toll could have been unthinkable enormous. It was just a last minute structure and the tower that ordered the Air Canada jet to pull up and come back around diverted that disaster, by the way, the two pilots have not been allowed to resume flying. It that was what twenty seventeen. That's a little disconcerting that in some cases, allowances are not made for restaurant. Yeah. Because I'm the long flights is usually asleep time and naptime at least for the pilots and a little private area the planes. Yeah. All right. Well, it's it's you guys both know that it's national coffee day today. Twenty nine. Expresso already this morning. Okay. Well, listen, if you have a place out there that you like I'll just send us an Email through the website or world travel dot com would love to know. We'll see we'll create our own poll for this. All right. I'm going to jump in with another news story, and thanks to the unshackling of the US economy by the Trump administration that we're all experiencing and thankful for these days. We're seeing in many areas of the country the travel industry is enjoying record results. And here's an example here in the New York area where Mary, and I live the New York City hotel market is a real good example of what I'm talking about as reported by TR global this week hotels in the city earns during their highest occupancy rates since two thousand resulting in new construction projects that are underway all over the city. You can't miss them. And they're expected at thirteen thousand hotel rooms to the city in the months ahead representing the largest under construction pipeline in any market in the country. New York City has also experienced the fastest growth in revenue per room since two thousand thirteen and over the first eight months of two thousand eighteen hotel revenues per room are up four point six percent. And since late twenty sixteen hotel. Room rates are also up three point two percent. And the best news of all for New York City, more leisure and business travelers are visiting the Big Apple last year. We've already reported on the program the city. Welcome nearly sixty three million visitors and this year it's projected the number of travelers coming to New York. It's gonna top out over sixty five million with fourteen million or more from abroad. So good news. Wow. I got to visit that city sometime. We're New York. Thank you might. Upped its warnings on travel to South Africa. It's cities have long endured high crime rates. But combine that with the drought in Cape Town and civil unrest. And American citizens are now being encouraged to exercise caution urban areas are known for carjacking armed robbery mugging and smash and grab thefts. I gotta tell you. It breaks my heart. After they have to see this State Department warning I spent three weeks in South Africa, shooting episodes, right public television series. And the crew was ripped off for more than twenty thousand dollars right soon as we landed thanks.

"I think so much of it comes down to how much are they investing in the food over economy? And what is the I like, the I is not cabin specific may, okay, the green science might as of course. But you had to if it's a newer aircraft. I mean, of course, it is liner you had near livery, that's very striking dark blue the dark, blue and the way and then the the slightly older. I don't know what you'd call that colored this greenish t the light blue. I don't know what colored is both of them are very striking them, very beautiful and the Air Canada experience at at Heathrow was was fine. In fact, when I upgraded the person there was incredibly friendly, and helpful and diligent at check in at the gate. It was at the ticketing desk because they as you know, it at t to Heathrow they sort of have this you go through layers almost at a check so via a if you have never been guys you have a first layer of automated. So just busy kiosks when you can do it yourself. Yeah. Then you have a first layer of checking counters which are for Konami and the last bit which are the end of the check in hall other ones for premium. So usually busy. And I and at the very start of the terminal there's like older ticketing desk. It's actually very well laid out. I think they've learned all the lessons that what doesn't work at T five, although t five is basically only one airline the learn all the lessons the apply to which is why I think he works. So. Well, yeah, that's certainly what it feels like I was interested in a way and kind of slow flagellating way to try this whole thing without status, which is exactly what I did. I don't have any status we were flying at Konami, but I ended up being in premium economy, which didn't actually change that much although they are very generous with their priority boarding for premium economy, you you're the second to board on Air Canada. If you're if you're premium economy, we tried the one of the paid lounges there. I used my priority pass very very nice loud. Aspire aspire. Yeah. So kind of on the lower level. Unfortunately, it has no windows, but for a windowless lounge it was one of the the least claustrophobic I'd been into so. Yeah. Canada was was fine. It's really hard to find a better word to describe them. Then fine because it didn't make me feel anything. But it wasn't crap. So important. Yeah. No, no. It wasn't. It wasn't bad at all. So you know, what I fly them? Again, what I picked them over to to good in North America or or at least Canada. I don't know. Maybe they seemed very very similar. I've had the opportunity many times. Did you flights to North America with them not candidate self but to layover somewhere Toronto etcetera because I've started status probably going to lose a star status next year? And I'm not trying to fight to renew it because I'm thinking I'm going to live in the UK you live. You can't problem gonna fight for one world, which means last war now transitioned view partic- to fly when you don't have status unless really the price is super super super competitive. There's no really a reason for me. I don't know. I'll try maybe I want to go to Vancouver. We'll talk to end I've never been to Vancouver never been to Canada act. Wow. Not never time. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. This is the food was okay. The food was fine. They give you a full meal after about an hour after takeoff. They they do a drinks run. And it's fine. As is reasonably limited. And then they give you a full hot meal and then about an hour and a half before landing. They give you this sort of hot rap, which is either chicken or vegetable they were fine again. I mean, those those economy and premium mccown, and I actually talking to Greg who is who is in the Konami. They had exactly the same thing as we did. In terms of different is paying for the seat a little bit more legroom. Yeah. I think the first meal may have been a little bit more different. But certainly that second meal was was not in some premium economy products..

"Because when you look at their new in their new expanded routes like camp, Amsterdam, that's new, but that's to a partner hub to JV. Hope that's risk shared LA, LA powers, increasing service. So these are new new destinations, new routes, just growth to the hub. So are they really being as Dr KLM in Air France, cutting frequencies, right? Like we did this when the in Chicago, it was always like, oh, we're going to Chicago, but as Virgin Atlantic was cutting back and forth like. Clearly with some of the announcement made last week. They're trying new, truly new markets. Whereas delta, ten years ago would try new markets now they don't really try new markets unless you know, like in the case Pittsburgh, they get some stipend to try, but they don't. When that expires expires, I'm not sure. American is legit all that much different versus going for markets that might have some incentive cash. Quite possibly. I mean, I'm pretty sure there's always markets cities out there that will pay for new service and you don't really see that you don't really see delta doing that. At this point. They're moving away from that into feeding just more traffic into partner hubs. I wouldn't say it's untrue. I just I don't know if I completely agree with get. Okay. Just as long as we're clear. And then the other thing is betting so much on Paris. Is that the right thing to do while Air France is in the state of flux and. And they've got a new strike on their hands potentially. So who's the new CEO let's start there. First Ben Smith former c. o. of Air Canada posting did grad. Yeah, very well respected in the industry very accomplished except the pilot's union at Air. France doesn't like him because he's not. He's not French well, well, clearly, I mean, subtle racism doesn't matter anyway. He's actually wonder if being comeback wise, even worse than being not French. 'cause I understand he's clar Nabis the Air France are based in Quebec, so he's been living there? I'd have to air KENDALL me, yeah, base in Montreal Air Canada's based in. Minder saying is going to be there for a while. Ben Smith's started as a gate agent at like London on -tario. For Canada or not even Air Canada for tyrel air and through mergers whatever can into the ranks. Yup. Good for him. I mean, he's very well respected Air Canada. He is often trip. One of the people tributed in their turn around and the brains behind Rouge to make that work in a successful manner..

"We're gonna the 'cause at the end, like a fun desert sort of. But let's. Check. And so actually we were both on vacation at was Meghan. It sounds like last week and she actually has not made any appearances that we haven't really missed any actual official events or engagements since her birthday when she stepped out in that divisive dress will say for Harry's friends wedding, laying low, God knows Samantha and Tom have not been right news train going. Well, an actually interesting when I was like kind of, I think when we were talking about like what to talk about this week, I feel I feel like Samantha Thomas, it's almost I just can't. I don't even have the energy anymore. Like I'll see headlines where it says Thomas, like compares the Royal societal gist. It's like, what is his end game? Just like enough. Right. I know. And that rumor that Samantha's in negotiations to replace stormy Daniels on UK, big brother, like I can't even. I'm amazed that the palace press office hasn't. Kind of cycled through staff members throughout this whole thing, like Trump's White House? Like wouldn't you just quit after Tom Markle? It also seems like the no plan is the plan kind of thing where they just aren't going to ever respond or do anything. But Thomas doesn't seem to be deterred at all, and I don't know how this is going to end, but I agree with you, you would think maybe let like heads would be rolling in the palace? Well, Megan did try to sort of physically escape. It sounds like. So there was a report that she flew to Canada, though this is very controversial report because the Royal central which is not a source that we have often used. I'm not even totally sure I have a full grasp on if it's like a blog, a website, a magazine, a podcast. This was Royal central, but yeah, me too where maybe this is like it's like a dream. I have filtered through some blog. Anyway, Meghan is traveling to Canada alone. Royal central says for her first solo trip. This was over the weekend. They said she was flying to Toronto, visit her former home on an Air Canada flight. And according to this Royal central port, which did get very widely picked up by all sorts of outlets. They said the Kensington Palace reportedly sent a letter to Air Canada, making the reasonable request that this is from New York magazine that no one take pictures with the duchess or otherwise approach or on the flight. Now, this gave me something of. 'cause I can't really imagine the palace and getting involved with like Air Canada, and then trying to what ban all the passengers and stewardesses and like I, I just don't really know feel if that'd be a lot of kind of hands on approach that I'm not sure I can see happening and you stay did send a letter to Air Canada. Why would air then forward it to Royal central right? Unless Samantha's running that office, maybe Royal central's like Samantha's blog or Air Canada's like she poses an Air Canada fischel, but I also feel like, don't you think it's crazy that we wouldn't. I mean, Air Canada flight isn't a private jets that went there. Just be lots of passengers on the flight to. I can see that they could send a letter, maybe Air Canada thing. We have like, Meghan Markle's going to be flying, but why they can't really do anything about if you were me were on the flight, we'll exactly like that's the riffraff you've to worry about not that actual stew. Curtis flight attendants, and what if Megan's, like rushing through the gate to get on and time also she's going to have security detail. I will say the one time I won't say who it was. We'll make like a blind item. I was getting on a flight with the celebrity and not not me and her. We're not together, but like she was also getting on the flight. And when I got on board, I saw a man holding a little kind of sign and it had her codename like CIA secret service style, and I looked that's really weird. I won't say what the codename was, but it was like on the sort of, you know, sign, the guy was holding as if you like the car people who pick up the, but he was standing outside the gate, and I saw kind of looking over like that's weird. It was the name of a superhero. So then so the Josh was male or female Email. So..

I guess you're just subpar my bad than I wrote tweet me back and explained the reasoning, please. I'll give you six hours to respond and then in parentheses, that's in case you're on the flight LA with me because there's no way you can respond because we were about to take off and there's no internet on this flight. People were like, okay, privileged, okay, man, stop bitching, dude. And then they were referring that Lucy k. bit that he did it on fucking Coenen words like you. You know, this is amazing. If you have something in the world that exists, have it have it all these people, I will. Yeah. Oh, this guy's acting like there aren't fucking airplanes that are thirty years old. Yeah, don't have airplanes that are thirty years old that don't have the wifi update. Don't have that. Then Air Canada wrote Hello. Chris, fuel feta. DM us for any assistance, Robin, I wrote, I can't. I'm taking off and you don't provide WI fi and then press. He's remembers two thousand eighteen joking. And people are like, oh, you privilege motherfuckers people got so mad. I. I. And then wrote hair candidate. There's wifi, then he's diner. Have you been there besides right now? Because that's where I fuck. And took you for a grand slam for your Brett grandfather. Slam breakfast, seldom. In this guy wrote and it's two thousand eighteen. You're the less talented version of polisher yet somehow more knowing and he looks like a fucking penis with a moustache. He looks awful. He's got polka shells on. I mean, God damn it..
