"Wow. There we go. So many dudes with big money schemes watching this right now going, I bet Bert would invest in this. I reimagined the fork. It's a monkey fist. And a little trigger. You like it, you like it. Bert, how about this? Coin operated. Oh my God. The machine is coming up on May 26th. This is it. We're finally going to get it, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. How long has it been in the making? Well, no. My brain is my brain's not all bad. Okay. It was on the shelf. It was on the shelf for a while because of Putin. And so they were like, we don't want to put it out, and then I just was like, I'm going to leak it. So I went on Rogan's and I leaked the trailer. And it got a lot of great traction and no one mentioned anything that they had a problem with, no cancel culture came after me. Everyone liked it. Even people that didn't like me, they're like, I ate burp, but I really want to see this movie. And so then Sony got involved and we did an announcement we're coming up Memorial Day weekend and a thousand theaters. Fantastic. Yeah, yeah, I'm really excited. I hope everyone enjoys the movie. And then Mark Hamill is in this country. Mark Hamill plays my dad. My favorite story of this is so the woman that put one of the women in plays in the mafia who rushed a woman at Ukrainian woman. She's like, she goes, we're going to dinner with Mark hammer. She goes, do not bring up Star Wars. I said, it's Mark Hamill. It's going to come up. She goes, no, no, no, no, please. Avoid it. I have never seen the movie. I know it's like a big thing, but I don't want to insult him. It's like, okay, so we sit down for dinner. I go, Mark Eva's a huge Star Wars fan. She freezes and he goes, oh, really? And she goes, I love good guy versus bad guy stories, you know. And I go even, who's your favorite character and she goes, well, Chewbacca. And I go, can you do an impression of Chewbacca for Margaret? She goes, hello, my name is Chewbacca. The Mark goes you never seen it. She goes, I've never seen your movie. I want to though. I hear it's really good. He was great. Mark Hamill's amazing. He delivers everything you want out of him because obviously all of us looked up when we were kids and him being Luke Skywalker. And you know, some people let you down when you meet your heroes. Mark Hamill does not. He over delivers. You say something about Harrison Ford and he goes, you want to hear a good story? That's Mark Hamill. That's more people. I love it. And that's coming out on Memorial Day. The Burt cast is crushing a two pairs one cave with Tom Segura. Yeah. Amazing. Yeah, I'm having a I'm having a good time. I just need to keep living. Well, I mean, the Muhammad Miami to Bahamas comedy crews might put a crimp in that. But yeah, we're doing fully loaded comedy crews. I can't wait. That's my dream. The comedy, those cruise ships. I love cruise ships. You do. Oh my God. The fact that no one can leave. Are you kidding? It's the best feeling in the world. 27th through the 31st of 2023, that's October 27th through the 31st tickets start at $125,000. So be careful. You don't know where you're going to be in any cabin in the cruise. You have no idea. I will be on the road all year trying to pay off this Super Bowl. Savannah next week, Tampa, Orlando. Come on out to just check them out on the tops off world tour. Great to see you, Matt. What a pleasure. I'd love to come on your Burt cast. I would love to go do some disc golf done. Let's figure it all out, man. I really would love to do that. And we shout out to Sarah Tiana, still on moment house right now. Fantastic. Yeah, right. I was right now right now. Yeah, go check it out. Right now? Right now, it's our moment house you can buy it. She is the best, one of the best comics in the business, top of the game, absolute, amazing. I'm really excited about it. I saw her on the show, she murdered. She's awesome. As you know, we love her. And thanks for coming and Bert. Thank you. Congrats on everything going on with you. And continued success to dig out of your whole. Thank you. I'll be posting my Super Bowl seats on Sunday. There you go. Instead, that's a darkness retreat for sure. For four days, check them out. "It's rich I said. It has been an amazing week here in Phoenix, Arizona. It's time to kick off our third and final hour of coverage of three days here at the Super Bowl state in Arizona, getting set for actual football coming up this weekend and thrilled to be here on the Roku channel in this rich eisen show terrestrial radio affiliate in SiriusXM and Odyssey our whole audience for the man who has been in town performing in front of sold out shows at the mullet arena and Tempe Arizona performing here in the Super Bowl himself Bert kreischer good to see you, sir. Thank you. Have you ever performed it in arena called the mullet? No, no, no, no, no, no. Okay. So definitely over under delivered. It's funny they gave me a plaque. They said, you know, you set record attendance at the mullet arena, and I was like, everyone in the room's like, wow. And Shane Gillis, one of my openers leans in and goes, they've only been open 8 months. Well, you set them on. Now I've got to go reach it. It's freezing. It's a hockey arena, and so there's ice under there, and I'm shirtless. I am my chest is I'm like freezing the entire show. I think I'm getting a chest infection from these hockey arenas. Oh my gosh. It was awesome. This is Super Bowl experience is like none other. I was telling you guys before the show started. Yes. The offensive line of the Kansas City chief showed up to the show last night. Like the whole line. Is that right? Do you remember the scene in revenge of the nerds when the omega moves start walking through the door? I felt like I felt like booger just going one, two. You know, it's amazing. I think you think you're a man. Their hands are so much bigger than me. I think if I was going to get into a relationship with a dude, it would be like, oh, Lyman. Yeah. Yeah, just for like, just even like the showering together. He could just clean me so quickly. They're amazing, they're amazingly large. Now you saw them from the stage or you saw them backstage. No, I got a text from Orlando Brown. Yes. And he said, yo, we're going to come through and I was like, yeah, sure. So the whole time I'm looking for offensive linemen. In the audience, and I'm like, and my fans are dudes and they're big dudes. I'm like, that must be them. Uh uh. I don't know where these guys were sitting. I don't know what happened to those poor seats. Those seats are destroyed. These are the largest man. I mean, everyone kept just coming up. And this is what's crazy about super weekend. There's girls in my meet and greet. Yeah. There's never a woman backstage. I've never had a woman backstage. There are beautiful women backstage. Everyone's like, this is insane. This whole experience is insane. It's a Super Bowl week. And the tickets are so affordable. Should we talk about? Go for whatever you'd like. So I tell Mark Norman, Shane Gillis, my two openers. Yes. I say, hey, we're doing them all arena. We'll do two shots. We do one show. Saturday night. Sells out at Friday. Sells out Wednesday. At Thursday, do a four shows. A guy's a little treat, Super Bowl tickets on me. Good seats. You need hundred and 25 thousand dollars. Well, you're going for the primo primo. You're talking about. Why didn't know? My wife called and she goes, they just took a $125,000 out of our account. It's something going on. You need to talk to me about something. Are you going to South Africa for a month? I was like, no, we're going to the Super Bowl. I

"Because watching hard knocks. I'd play for Campbell. Like, sign me up. Oh yeah, I think anybody, anybody would, you know? I can't play, but I would play. I'd certainly, I'd certainly, I'd run through a screen door for him, not a wall. Like a lightly built screen door, I think I could do that. And then when you had to get up and do your Billie Jean dance, I liked it. A lot of props and it felt like you distinguished yourself as had a little bit of rhythm there. How nervous were you when you had to perform in front of the vets? Yeah, I mean, that was a moment that I saw coming for a while, but I didn't know when Judgment Day was. And, you know, it was really in that meeting. That was, I mean, when you guys heard it and hard knocks, that was when I, you know, that's when I realized in real time, like I was doing this thing. Right here right now. So did you rehearse? Oh yeah, I had to. I didn't know the lyrics at all when I picked the song because I know that I knew the chorus, but nobody knows what he says, like, you know, in the verse is leading up to it. You're kind of just bopping to it. And so I had to study those letters. So I was studying those lyrics and meetings and stuff in my head. I was always rehearsing them just for the moment that that moment would come. So I had to study a lot. On top of football, it was a little bit stressful, but I'm glad it's over with. Well, plus it was televised. And that's different from a lot of other rookies, hard knocks is there, so they're covering it, and then all of a sudden, you know, I don't know if that starts to sink in. God, everybody can see this if they want to see this. Oh, yeah. And I'm not someone who I'm not someone who's about to get up there and get food either. So I wanted to go up there, I wanted to do a little performance. I wanted to, you know, just sell out and I knew that if I went up there, had a good song, and I really just gave it my own. You know, I think the boys would like it a little bit, so it worked out. What did mom or your sister say? They loved it. I didn't tell them that I was doing the song. I came home one day, and I was like, I did it. I'm done. I did my rookie song, and it's out of the way, and I didn't even tell him, you know, I didn't tell I was picking Billie Jean or any of that.

Ryan, there is one part of your story that I haven't asked you about yet, but I feel like it does round out the picture of this little kid who has since mushroomed into this game breaking NFL player. And it's the part about cats. Yeah, he called his mom not too long ago and said, mom, I'm ready to be a cat dad. And his mom was overjoyed because they've rescued animals their whole life. When they describe the last like 20 years at the Hutchinson household, it sounds closer to a zoo than a house. They just have brought in, you name it. They've fostered and saved pets from shelters. And so she was very excited when he said he wanted to get cats. And that is a very psychologically fraught choice, Ryan. I mean, NFL prospects are asked unironically at the combine like, are you a cat or are you a dog? Well, so that's such an interesting window into the draft process, but it's also a window into 8 and Hutchinson. So he went and he got the two cats, Momo and midi. He loves them. I mean, he loves them so much. He pointed at them once while I was on a Zoom with him. They're his little furry buddies. But he also said, I'm not a cat person. I'm not a dog person. I am an animal dad. And so he's going to have lots and lots of pets, just like he grew up in a household of animals. And you know, he shared this very poignant moment where he said that his mom, they had so many animals as kids. And a lot of them, he has outlived, and it was heartbreaking when they would have to take a dog in or a cat in. And he asked his mom, why do we do this? Why we know they're going to die. And we're not going to have them. And then she kind of just told me it's better to love someone than to never love at all. So I heard that. I was like, damn, well, that's how you do it right there. And you kind of have these animals for different parts of your life. And they're there for you. And yes, that goodbye is so freaking hard, but I think just the moments you have with them, you know, I kind of, in that period of time of your life, I think, you know, it makes it all worth it. And that has stuck with Aidan Hutchinson to this day. Yeah, his childhood, Ryan. 80 Hutchinson's childhood is clearly formed so many of the stories that you've told us here. And I'm curious now. I mean, the one question that I have to ask at the end is, what goals is he writing down now as he heads off into the NFL? I asked him that directly and he paused for a moment, kind of like looked off into the distance and he's like, you know, I don't think I'm ready to say them publicly yet. I'm definitely keeping that to myself right now, but you know, you think of where I want to be in terms of the NFL and you know what you got to do to get there and that's what I'm thinking about. And as he said it, I realized the point isn't the specific goals that he's writing down. Probably, it's that he's writing them down to begin with. So as he was like, I'm going to keep them under my vest for now. I was just like, okay, this guy's whatever he's writing down. He's totally going to do it. I don't know how many super bowls he's going to pencil in. Or how many all pros. But I think you can bank on them. He's going to write them down and it's going to happen. "Oh yeah. I mean, this was the death star. This was invaded the death star. Interesting here in his dad and him talk about his dad and him are so loving towards each other, but also they got that little bit of edge, just enough competitiveness and his dad just kept saying, you know, you have exactly zero wins against Ohio State and I had four. And they said it very lovingly, but you better believe Aiden took it serious. And so, and the other thing about this rivalry is that it's only so long in arrival before if one team wins every year, it's like, is this really a rivalry? And Michigan lost 8 straight, you know? And so Jim Harbaugh, his job was on the line because he had never done the thing that you're describing. Absolutely. And so the stakes of that were huge, the stakes of getting into the college football playoff were huge Michigan needed to win that game to assure they get in and so Michigan comes out everybody remembers the game probably, but Michigan won 42 to 27 and Aiden was just, it was ridiculous. It was a video. Unstoppable. Unstoppable. CJ strut steps up in the pocket and it goes down. Michigan gets pressure. Guess who Aiden Hodgins? Zach number 11, which leads the Big Ten. That is a loss. He was an unstoppable force he at one point mouthed up to his parents in the stands, they can not block me, which is a very Jedi. Very Jedi. Corralling the force finally very Jedi thing to say. Defense gives. First down at the 38 again on the play action face. This kid is unreal. He got three total. And so he added one more later in the year and he ended up with 14 sacks shattered the record. And most importantly, he beats Ohio State to propel Michigan into their first college football playoff appearance. Yeah, I remember the scene postgame is vividly as I remember the scene of the game itself. The game, by the way, where I first became acquainted with Aidan Hutchinson in full and the kind of force he's gonna be as a professional because it's delirium, Ryan. I mean, that's not an understatement. The field is stormed. Everybody spills out. It is like the death star itself had exploded. And here's everybody like, just celebrating deliriously. Yes, the rise of the resistance they won, you know? It was pure unadulterated joy. And Aiden told me a funny thing when I was talking to him, which is that he caught himself with about 8 minutes left. He had had this remarkable game and Michigan's going to win. But there's 8 minutes left. And he said, I was crying. There was a lot of emotion in that game. I mean, I think I was crying with 8 minutes left to the fourth quarter when I tasted a little bit. You know, I could taste that victory. And I couldn't help it. It was just emotions were just coming out and the tears were flowing. I was like, get it together, and you got somebody to go out for other series. And then he was like, oh, actually, I got about ten more snaps to get my helmet and get back out there and play. So he wiped the tears away and went back out on the field. And they closed it up. They won. And that's one when he's telling that story. That was his mom coming through. His mom really believes in the idea of sitting with things, good or bad, sitting with them and processing them, and so they process joy in a way where they actually pause and feel joy. And so he was feeling it on the field there that day. And you know, what's incredible, you know, as the season wound down is that like three years after writing down that preposterous post it note. Yes. Aiden hutchison, a couple weeks after the Ohio State game, gets 78 first place votes in the Heisman and finished second. Finishing second, finishing second as a defensive player. I'm sorry. He won the Heisman. We're just going to wave him through. It's impossible. Charles Woodson, right, that's the only guy to ever win the award and that dude wasn't really even playing exclusively defense, right? Yeah, you see the scoring points. I mean, it was some of his most dynamic impressive plays were punt returns and his impact on the scoreboard. And so the idea of a defensive end, this is a, it's become a skill position offensive skill position a war. The idea that 78 people said this is the best player in the country and he was at the final ceremony. It's just, it's an incredible honor. It's right up there with winning it. It's something that we are just not it's happened three times where a defensive player finished second. I don't know how many times we're going to see it going forward. Aiden hutchison is probably going to stand out as one of those guys that is a historic footnote as somebody who didn't win it, but really was kind of a record breaking game changing player. All of which makes me wonder now Ryan about the goals that Aiden Hutchinson is writing down about the NFL and.

"Happen. Yeah, I know, it's a wild mixture of confidence and hope. Honestly, like I think a lot of us get that beaten out of us by cynicism at this point. But on the field, how does this dream seem to be developing as he's writing all of this down and trying to will it into existence? Well, it was eerily similar to his freshman and sophomore years in high school, whereas coaches were like, okay, we really like this kid. He's good, special teams. He's a good plug and play guy on the line, but maybe not a superstar. There was a lot of question marks about him. He was very tall and lean and, you know, you forget an 18 year old versus a 22 year old is actually like a huge difference. Don Brown said that. It's like, it's really hard for a freshman to come in and here's a guy, you know, he was going against Lyman every day who had three years in a weight room. And so, but he came in, he was determined, and he played all 13 games. I had 15 tackles, and he was a rookie of the year on defense for Michigan. But again, it wasn't nobody was like, okay, this guy get him to the draft. This guy is going to be the number one pick. It wasn't quite there yet. So he just continued to get better than as a sophomore. He started every game, won some awards for his role on the team on the team. And paired with quity pay who ended up being a first round pick from the colts. It you started to see. That was a moment again where the coaches were like, oh, wow, okay. This guy who writes down all of this really impressive stuff is turning into his post it notes. Though give it to him and he's ambushed before he can get back to the line of scrimmage nicely done 8 and Hutchinson. The sophomore from Plymouth. Check out but the thing obviously that he did not predict, Ryan, is what happens in 2020. When everyone, everyone's life is shut down here, the world is shut down. You're the pandemic occurs. How did Aidan handle that part of the story? Yeah, it was a messy, messy situation. You know, Michigan canceled its spring game. They had one of those international trips that Jim Harbaugh likes to do. Cancel the Big Ten, you know, in August announced they're not going to play. And then obviously that got reversed. And it was also an interesting factor in aid and Hutchinson's story that his father was in the emergency rooms every day. And so he was literally on the front lines of this thing. So he was at his parents house like most college football players then working out, trying to figure out where this was all going to happen. And eventually, as we know, the Big Ten reverse its decision and in mid September, they played a shortened conference only schedule. But then even once the season got rolling, aid in the third game of the year against Indiana, he limped off the field he walked off, but his parents were sitting there and they thought all, you know, he must have twisted his ankle or something, but went to the back, got x-rays. It was a broken ankle to their surprise and they pulled Chris and Melissa Hutchinson out of the stands and brought him down and Chris actually, he's the rare football father. He's like, let me see those x-rays. And so he can actually read the x-rays. He can interpret them. Here's your second opinion, doctor. So he took the x-rays and Chris, when he talks about his funny because he was like, he looked at the x-rays and was like, oh, thank God. It's a clean break. And it's like, oh my really. And he said, no, no, it was a clean break, which means it can be a clean healing also. And so at that point, Aiden had shown enough on the field that this was one of those stories that started popping up on draft radars because Aidan hutchison at that point, he was somebody that was going to eventually be a high first round potential draft pick. So Ryan, as his dad is on the front lines of the pandemic and Aiden is dealing with his broken ankle and is now just laid up at home as clean as that break is, how does he handle this? I mean, if he's in the middle of like a pretty staggering rise to being a prospect and suddenly he can't do anything. Yeah, he took it really hard, you know? He's had a couple setbacks in his life and each time he takes 24 hours and then he's, he's okay. But in this instance, he was, he was really down. I mean, it was a little bit hard at first just because I never really been through something like that. But my mom and my dad being there, I mean, even my sisters too. I mean, I was just sitting there at home, but I had the whole support system, you know, at my back. So having them there and it definitely made the moment a lot easier in terms of getting over that. And so they moved his dad moved all of his stuff out in the living room, where they could help him kind of get to the bathroom, get food, take care of him out there. And he told him, you know, this is what I think it's going to take to get you back to where you want to be. And Aiden stared at the floor. He was really taking it hard that first 24 hours or so. And as Chris was telling the story, he kind of like tipped his hand that the next morning, Aiden was fine. He said to his dad, I believe you, I believe everything he said about my ankle and what it's going to take, and I'm going to attack my rehab, I will be a 100% again. And that's when Chris knew, Chris knew from the very beginning, if I'm going to give in 24 to 36 hours and I bet he's fine, sure enough, he was fine. Yeah, I mean, Ryan, the kid has surgery on the ankle in November. He is rehabbing and then by March, he's running. He's back with the team at the end of spring practices in 2021, and by senior year that'll happen as a junior, I mean, how would you even begin to describe the kind of player that Aidan Hutchinson has now transformed into? Well, everybody thought he was going to be okay that he was going to pick up right where he left off. But to carry the Star Wars theme through, I mean, he went from like Jedi apprentice to like, oh my God, this is Darth Vader. He was unblockable. They just got it off and they got stuffed and the ball came out. Richard Newton stopped by 8 and Hutchinson and Michigan takes over on down. He was an unstoppable force he was the rare game changing defensive lineman in college football. He had 16 and a half tackles for loss. He was on every all American list, all Big Ten, every trophy, you can come up with a little Lombardi, the Hendrix, the lot, the negur ski. I mean, he was a FrontRunner for him or Juan. And so he was just he turned into a player that was really someone that had to be identified on every single play and accounted for. He was unstoppable as a senior. But the way that a padawan goes and becomes a credible master, Ryan. I mean, you have to go against Ohio State. And so what happened there?.

His mom told it was very heartwarming anecdote. She said, you know, she thought, here he is. He's 18 years old. He's going off the live by himself, being a Big Ten football player is a full-time job in addition to going to class and all that other stuff. And so she thought, well, it was a nice little story I have about the first chapter of his life where we had this journaling thing. And then he said, mom, I need some journals to take with me to Michigan. And she just was so moved by that. And so she gave him some journals and some things she called him goal sheets, but it was basically the same premise is that I'm going to set goals for myself. And I'm going to write them down. I'm going to say them to myself. I'm going to stare at them every day. This is going to be my business card. In my dorm room. And so he wrote down things like I want to be an all American. I want to run a sub four 7 40. I want to weigh 270 pounds. I wanted to beef up a little bit. All right, I'm imagining being another kid in this dorm, and I'm seeing these notes, and I'm just like, wait a minute. Like normally, you're supposed to have like a Tupac poster. Like who is this kid? Declaring all these things about himself. Yeah, I mean, like maybe you have some general grievous drawings, tops, but like the idea that you would be so focused, hyper focused on a goal as an 18 year old. He definitely said the vibe was like, okay, look at this kid, right? Like, okay, you're one of 20 to 25 kids coming in here who thinks he's going to be a superstar at Michigan. We'll see. We'll see. There was one goal of his that he would write down on a post it because it was so preposterous that it kept disappearing and he wasn't sure it would lift this note, but it was just, it was so ridiculous to everyone who saw it that apparently people just would run off with it. And so he would have to write it down again. He didn't even mind that. The idea, the motion of writing it down again didn't bother him at all. And the goal that kept disappearing was the goal of I will win the Heisman Trophy. I have that thing up on my freshman year dorms on the walls and, you know, people, it's definitely guys come in and laugh a little bit, sealed because I had a post it on the wall. I mean, that just goes to show kind of where my mentality has always been. You know, whether I'm coming in, I'm a second string. I'm Michigan football. I'm still writing those kind of things on the wall. I mean, it's preposterous. The idea that a defensive player would aspire to this. It's totally, like, going back to when he was 11 years old, it was the same reaction that his oh, it's so cute, you know? How about you be an astronaut too? You want to go to Mars? You know, it was sort of that treatment. And it was ridiculous, and kids would make off with it, and he would just, you know what? He just write it down again. When he was telling me about it, he quotes his mom, who said to him, you know, if they don't laugh, you're not dreaming big enough. And that is like such an interesting quote as it applies to Aidan Hutchinson because, you know, there's only one guy. Maybe a few people in the running every year to be the number.

"And he stuck it on the mirror, and his dad, when he kind of got done with it, his dad walked past and what he saw was, it was basically an incubation lab that Aidan Hutchinson had built for himself, and that's when Chris was like, oh, maybe this kid's actually going to will himself into this someday. Yeah, maybe this kid, his journaling is actually something that's very, very serious to him. That's exactly right. It's just, you know, step one is sort of having this idea for yourself and then step two is like, I'm doing it and this is how I'm gonna do it. And you know, it's really hard to get an 11 year old to focus on anything for more than, I don't know, 14 seconds. And so correct. The minute he saw a click into place of like a piece of paper that is carefully taped above my old Jersey. He was like, oh boy. Okay, we're doing this. Well, in terms of the doing of it, I mean, look, I understand that lots of kids have dreams, lots of kids say stuff. But the actual doing of the stuff, the fulfilling of the prophecy, Ryan, describe that path for Aidan Hutchinson as he goes to the level of really high level D one football recruit. I've never had the experience where I talk to a kid's high school coaches and they're just like, yeah, pretty unimpressed the first time. I sort of remember it. I think it was like this summer at the track. We had all these kids come in. He was a normal sized kid, pretty athletic, worked really hard, no questions about that. Very smart, but he was just kind of another kid. They were like, okay, he's going to be a good player. And maybe he walks on at a division one school someday. And even as a sophomore, he was 6 two, 200 pounds, which is a good sized kid, but not on a football field. That's kind of how every kid looks. Yeah, and that's not Big Ten caliber meat. No, it's totally like central Michigan walk on or something, right? But then, you know, there was some funny stories about he had a pretty significant growth spurt as a heading into his junior year. He blew up from around 6 two 200 to 6 6 two 30 or so. One of his coaches told a funny story where he walked past the classroom and Aiden didn't really fit behind the desk in the classroom. So they had lined up this chair beside the desk and he kind of like leaned over and did his work over top of the deck. He had to ride sidecar on his own desk. Yes. Yeah, that was the moment whenever the coach is there were like, oh, all of these positive things about him now, now he's built like a 6 6 230 pound 16 year old. That is a potential Big Ten player. And so he's playing defensive end from the start here, or what's he doing? He played a little bit of everything. I think the coach's early on in his career thought he was going to be a really good offensive lineman. And then, but he just, when he got to 6 6 two 30 with his foot skills and, I mean, here's comes the ballet part of it. He just was unstoppable as a defensive lineman. But his coaches kept saying he played like almost every position on the field. He was even like a good, like a good kicking leg. They wanted him to focus on defensive end, and that's kind of where the college recruiters saw him. And he emerged as a four star recruit with getting offers from all over the country. And it's worth pointing out here, the University of Michigan is his dad's Alma mater and also his mom's Alma mater, Ryan. So when does Ann Arbor enter the equation? Well, his coaches and his dad were like laughing because he took his he took visits to different places, including Ohio State. And the whole time they're like right into these campuses, and they're like, Aiden, I mean, we know you're gone to Michigan. Come on. What the heck? And his dad was like, you know, I want him to experience everything. This is his own call. His dad was really cool about that. Like, I don't.

"The smarter, easier way to get a haircut. It's not just any haircut. It's super cuts. When you try and write a profile of an athlete and I remember this from my own magazine writing days, you try and develop some sort of unifying comprehensive theory of the person. And it is NFL Draft season right now and you have the task of profiling and explaining to America Aidan Hutchinson. The guy that is projected to be the number one overall pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars next week. This defensive end, the star out of Michigan. But the way you went to structure your story here, it feels a little different. How do you wind up with the approach that you did? Well, for certain stories you realize halfway through the reporting, like maybe I should just get out of the way and let the stories unfold themselves. And so I noticed when I was interviewing people about Aidan Hutchinson, almost everybody had like three, four, 5 good anecdotes about him, and as I listened to these stories of Aidan Hutchinson, I realized that if you put just these single small stories together, they tell the big story of him. This is a guy who built himself into a top recruit, went to Michigan, his lifelong dream. Became a star at Michigan, and all American defensive lineman destroyed Ohio State to get Michigan to the college football playoff when their biggest game of the year and turn into a Heisman finalist as a senior. Four man rush. They still pressure Morris and Hutchinson takes him down. What a half for Aiden Hutchinson. And I guess if there's one unifying theory, the thing that really jumped out at me as I talked to everybody was how startling it was that of all of these things he's done, so many of them, he at one point in his life wrote down on a piece of paper that he was going to do it. And the idea of this guy, all these stories about him, that he basically scripted is a fascinating human being and it's a fascinating look at the idea of coming up with goals and not letting them be passing thoughts. Let them be your guiding principles. And that's the story of Aidan Hutchinson. At 21 years old, Aiden Hutchinson is a terrifying person. He stands 6 foot 6, weighs 265 pounds, has a 36 inch vertical, runs three cone drills like a slot receiver, and he is to quote the love language of NFL scouts, a freak. But even more eye opening than Hutchinson's draft stock and many of them going number one overall to Jacksonville, is the peculiar way this pass rusher got himself to this point. So today, Ryan hockett Smith tells the story of Michigan's aid and Hutchinson. A story that was authored, methodically, and prophetically. By Aidan Hutchinson himself. I'm Pablo Torre, it's Thursday, April 21st..

"In the regular season against the saints since joining the Buccaneers, he did win in New Orleans in last season's divisional playoffs. We remember that, but he hasn't been the saints in the regular season kind of a weird little vibe there. Not sure how that works, but Tom Brady is really giving them some difficulties. The rams coming off the big Monday night win, plague in Seattle and the rams beat the Seahawks 26 17 in Seattle and week 5 and that was the game where Russell Wilson injured his finger on Aaron Donald helmet. She goes back up against the rams. Russell Wilson started to get better, physically, to be in the spot that he wants to be his 8 and 12 against the rams in his career, including the playoffs, no team has beaten Russell Wilson more than the rams of beating him. So Brady gets the saints who he struggle with Russell Wilson gets the rams who he has struggled with and we get another great matchup this weekend with the Bengals and Broncos two AFC teams vying for playoff spots. Keep in mind that Bengals are four in one in their last 5 road games and this is their first road game since a week, 11 win at the Raiders they played at home in weeks 12 through 14 Broncos 7 and two against the Bengals over their past 15 seasons. I've covered some of those games Cincinnati always has struggled against Denver for whatever reason that actually is we get a tough physical matchup with the Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers, the divisional matchup, Washington and Philadelphia, and the cowboys and giants, cowboys, scored a season high 44 points in their win over the Giants at home in week 5, but dak Prescott struggling now. This would be figure to be a get right matchup for dak Prescott, this upcoming weekend. We'll see how that works out for him. I also mentioned the fantasy football playoffs starting this weekend. And I think there was a little message this past week.

"Hitting you. All at once when you're laying there on the turf at MetLife stadium and week two of 2000 and 20, all that goes through your mind as you're laying on the ground. Yeah, it's a lot. And I definitely don't wish it on anybody. But it happens in the game, so. Is it physically painful as much as it's mentally painful there? Yeah, I mean it's. Definitely it's not as excruciating as maybe think but the surgery and all that you have your week or two of excruciating. What was the lowest moment that you experienced during the course of you tearing your ACL and rehabbing it, Nick? Definitely one of the times where I was just. At home at Joey's house in LA after maybe. It could have been at the Greenbrier 'cause we shouldn't have to go to the Greenbrier. And sitting in that bed alone, my mom wasn't there yet. And yeah, so you had to go to the Greenbrier from MetLife stadium because you were playing back to back weeks at my life stadium. You were playing the jets, and then the Giants, right? So you go tearing it, you carry your ratio. You have to go to the Greenbrier, which you can. You're in the hotel room, basically buy yourself 20 y'all knowing you can't play and you're stuck in West Virginia. Yeah. Not ideal circumstances. But it does make you appreciate once it's over with just being able to walk around and go to every practice and every walk through in every lift that you can, so. Now, earlier, we spoke to 8 in Hutchinson and he's going to be in a position very similar to the one that you were in 2019 where he's going to be a top pick. Maybe the number one overall pick possibly. He said he studies you and Joey quite a bit. Have you seen him play at all and what you think of his performance and play, Nick? Yeah, have I haven't watched a ton, but he definitely I could definitely see how he watches me and some of the movements he does very similar. Really? You could see that and watching him, you could see something that you do. Oh, yeah, for sure. Like what? Just, I mean, just a sequence of steps and hands and hips and all that stuff. Wow. You could definitely tell for sure. What advice would you give him now for the experience that he's about to go through here in the coming weeks and months? You know what that's like going to the combine going to new teams, waiting for the draft, what are deal that whole thing is? What we can tell them about this whole thing. Just try to eliminate as much of the extra stuff you can. Try and stay in shape and that should be your number one focus. You should be, I know the husband was fun, but I think staying wherever you're located and getting your body right. And taking your diet to the next level and just preparing your body for the combine and all that. Because you're going to be traveling a lot and it's going to be hard to hard to keep up with your normal routine..

"Where does that drive come from? I'd say, you know, it comes from my dad personally, just because all I remember from the days back when I started playing tackle football in 7th grade, you know, he always he always just wanted me to give it my all. On every single play. And you know, I'd hear it from him if I didn't. And he was seeing that on the field. And if it was very visual and you know, I really didn't have too many issues with it, but as I started playing football in my early days of high school, my dad would just tell me because I was playing offense defense long snapping. I was doing about everything. So, you know, he was he always had drilled that in me and drilled that in my head. So I think I have that to thank for always being nonstop on the go. Well, it's helped you and serve you very well. And think about this now. You got 60 minutes to another unbelievable memory for Michigan fans for yourself for your damage. A 120 to a forever spot, which you probably already have, but I mean a really unique rarefied air kind of spot. You are so close to history. So everybody out there from Michigan will be watching you pulling for you. Just want you and your guys to know how close you are to basically football immortality. Right. That's the way to think of it. Yeah, if we get it all done, I mean, we already hung one manner this year with that Big Ten championship. So I've been able to hang another. That'd be a iconic and legendary season that I would love to be a part of. Congratulations on everything that's happened. I'm sorry, I didn't see you moving into the dorm fresher year. I'm sorry. I won't see you at the NFL Draft this year. But I'm sure that our paths will cross at some point here. I'm sure. I'm sure they will. That was great to have Eden Hutchinson join us. "Do you have any grasp and I don't know if you can. Do you have any grasp of what your play and this team's play means to Michigan football fans not only now, but will mean to them in years to come. I don't think I ever will because I can only meet so many of them, but I know how many people are out there that are just so affected by our win against Ohio State. I mean, I saw some video on social media of the student cry and saying, this means a lot. And so I see that guy. I mean, there must be a lot of other people out there who feel the same way. So I don't think I'll ever be able to grasp or see the impact of what we've done this season. Let me explain something to you again. We're going to bring it back to my son. Once again, my senior year of Michigan, Michigan won the national championship in basketball, and my college buddies and I went to the sweet 16 and we went to the final in three 16 and Lexington, we went to the final four in Seattle. To this day, I can tell you about every player on that team, what they meant to our college experience and how much joy and happiness they brought us. And so now my son who's a senior, that Michigan and my senior Michigan one, the national championship in basketball and his senior year, the school's vying vying will say at this point to win the national championship in football. There would be some connection. There are some karma some symbolism, having him win it, and all I could tell you is he may think of Aidan Hutchinson the same way that I think of ramiel Robinson and Terry mills and Glenn rice. Right. That's so cool. That's so freaking cool. And hopefully we can get this done, you know, so we can say that. And, you know, that'd be cool. And again, I even last week, as I'm watching you guys get ready for the Big Ten championship and Indianapolis. Another one of our college friends gets in the phone with me. He was at the Michigan Ohio State game flew in. And he said to me, and this will give you an idea of what I'm talking about that the mission Ohio stake into the attended this year was the single greatest sporting event that he ever had attended in his life. Now he's doing this. One of my college buddies, his name is Michael. Okay. Calls me and tells me he's a single greatest sporting event of his life. My point is, I don't believe that that idea is exclusive to him. I believe the people who are in attendance that day. 100%. Bill felt that way. And so they will always think of you and your teammates for all the joy and happiness that you brought them. I texted your head, coach. I texted your defense score. I said the exact same thing to them in text. I'm like, do you realize how happy how much happiness you've brought to so many people? And that's what I think you will learn over time. You make it sick of it over time. Right..

"Episode of the Adam Schefter podcast. As the year winds down, we are joined today by two men who have quite a bit in common more than you might think. Aiden Hutchinson, the outstanding young defensive end from the University of Michigan, who figures to be potentially the number one overall pick in the draft in April coming off an outstanding season at the University of Michigan and he will join us to talk about what has been and what is ahead. And then we'll be joined by a man who basically walked down the path that Aidan Hutchinson did only in Columbus, Ohio. Nick Bosa, the outstanding young defensive end for the San Francisco forty-niners who wound up being the second overall pick in 2019 and something of a role model for aid in Hutchinson himself. Both of those two young defensive ends will join us and they are excellent conversations, I believe. Now in Hutchinson, has a real chance to go number one because this is a draft that does not have an obvious top ten quarterback pick. Quarterbacks have gone number one overall in 6 of the past 7 drafts. But this might be the first time since 2013 that we don't even see a quarterback going the top ten picks last time that happened was 2013 when EJ Manuel was the first quarterback taken at number 16 overall and Aidan Hutchinson is going to be a top pick. He's either going to go number one, two, three, right there. Maybe number one and Detroit would make a lot of sense for a guy like Aden Hutchinson. This is a team right now. That's in the bottom 5 and yards allowed per play points allowed per game, sacks, they haven't generated a lot of pressure. And yes, the Lions need a quarterback. But there is an obvious quarterback to draft this year. So that points to a guy like 8 in Hutchinson. And who is the lion's head coach, Dan Campbell? What is he about? Energy. What does Aidan Hutchinson do more than anything else? The guy brings his lunch pail. He goes to work. High motor, high energy. He just fits like a Detroit line. And we will talk to aid in Hutchinson about the idea of him going to the Detroit Lions at number one. The.

'Infuriated' Aidan Hutchinson calls out hypocrisy by Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren

"About. It's time for Kevin, Warren the Commissioner of the big ten to be transparent and. He has he has written a letter to I guess everyone wants to read it saying that the disputing some of the criticism. that saying that the vote by the big ten council of Presidents and Chancellors was overwhelmingly in support of postponing fall sports and will not be revisited. So that case is over. He went on to say the decision was thorough and deliberative based on sound feedback guidance and advice from medical experts. So there you have it. he has answered his critics and there are many out there who have wondered exactly what is going on? There's also another story breaking Simultaneously Pizza reporting that the NCW Division One council. decided today that falls sports student athletes can compete in any amount of competition is this year and it will not count as a season of eligibility. So. If I'm if I'm reading that correctly I think somebody correct me. If I'm wrong that's say this is a free season and I know I've talked to a lot of parents the young it starts to be approved by the Board of governors but a lot of young. Players have disputed that this should count since there are a number of the the number of games. Last of fact that there will be limited fan. So a lot of things happening right now as we continue here. During the final hour of the program, let's continue and talk to Kerry who was in Mississippi hello good. Afternoon.
