away Is Amazon no longer a growth stock Well you think about sort of what is the impetus right You look at the year over year comps I think that's the biggest challenge for Amazon now coming out of the pandemic I mean we had two years of extraordinary demand for that business model and now we need to see you know what are those organic growth drivers going forward And I think that's going to be a challenge How many rounded of John Hancock Emily great to catch up What an earnings season It's been Lisa Just the numbers themselves have been pretty decent pretty solid but it's all about that outlook And I think as we round out earnings season for the big tech names that's exactly where we started the quarter What's going to happen in the future What's the outlook where's the guidance And that's where we're finishing it with the same concerns The fact that the NASDAQ was already down nearly 20% heading into the big tech week It shows you how much pessimism was already baked in And then to see the further declines in the shares after the earnings speaks to that pessimism and that uncertainty baked into the outlook I think the bifurcation within big tech might be the story from this earnings season We've got to set up the conversation for the next few hours On that bifurcation I'm going to catch you with Dan Ives of Wedbush a little bit later Lisa that is exactly his ankle right now But for our next conversation with ECB chief economist Philip lane Tom inflation at 7.5% I have to say in the track a year did you ever think we'd get back to 7.5% on CPI in Europe And most importantly John professor lane never did I really want to emphasize for an American audience This is one of the Giants of modern economics This is must listen must watch for global Wall Street Now core CPI in Europe is much lower than core CPI in the United States but this will be uncomfortable for the ECB because it's moving in the wrong direction still So core CPI comes up to 3.5 from 2.9 and 19 on Wall Street live from the Bloomberg interactive broker studios This is Bloomberg daybreak and we are wrapping up a very busy week for tech earnings Souring sentiment this morning shares of Apple are down about two and a half percent The iPhone maker reported record sales in the latest quarter but the outlook is what's causing concern and Amazon is plunging by nearly 9% with spending Maybe catching up on that ecommerce giants profits Let's get more insights Now gene Munster is with us this morning Cofounder of loop ventures Gene it's good to speak with you this morning And want to start with Apple because CEO Tim Cook was pretty explicit in the call after the record sales that drag from the supply chain is a big concern for him Is it a concern for you It's not And I think it really hides the bigger picture here which is the supply chain constraint topic has been part of the apple story for the past 20 years Apple comes out with a new product consumers have to wait two to four months to get the new products What happened a year ago in actually a year ago to the date April 29th 2021 is notable because that was the first quarter that their CFO talked about more broader supply constraints They had never mentioned that before We had a one time mention in that quarter Since that time they've been averaging 9 times talking about these supply constraints And the reason why I mentioned that is that each time they have proven not just over the last four quarters but the last 20 years that consumers are willing to wait when Apple products aren't available And so when we as investors in Apple kind of the broader investor and Apple community gets their heads wrapped around the vortex of what does it mean with these supply constraints the impact on the quarter this quarter it's a negative 7% I think what misses the point is that those sales just get pushed into subsequent quarters And the reason the final piece that's most important and this was a spectacular quarter The piece that's most important around that and evidence that consumers are willing to wait is Apple just grew their business at 9% The street was looking for 4% That was in the face of a 53% comp just a staggeringly difficult company They still grew up that along with shutting down Russia for a month and the slowing macro And I think what that speaks to is that all of this hand wringing around what's going on in the supply chain really misses the bigger point that Apple has products that people want To that point though gene arg Apple consumers willing to wait if the products don't show big changes in upgrade I'm thinking about iPhone 13 compared to iPhone 12 or even the iPad the sales have been kind of sluggish on some of the newest lines Well I think that year and year consumers do wait And part of the reasons that we're just increasingly dependent upon these products and so I think yes people do wait for them and I think the results were impressive They grew the U.S. at 18% this quarter These were lights out good numbers And so I would disagree I think they're doing a great job of growing the products So yeah I think China grew at 4% tough comp there too Let's turn to Amazon the spend It seems to be a focus for investors has the spending on personnel warehouses caught up with growth It has Well that's the key They have 1.4 million workers and inflation is hitting them That's the vortex at Amazon's facing much more than Apple and other tech companies And I think what you're seeing is slowing growth their retail business is down 3% this quarter They had a difficult comp They were not able to power through that comp This is different than what happened to Apple as I mentioned Apple continue to grow nicely against the difficult comp Amazon did not have that benefit And so when you think about the expense question related to Amazon you have to put it in the context of what's going on with their broader business And so you have this dipping retail business It's likely going to dip is likely going to accelerate in the June quarter Probably going to be down 6% from down 3% in March And then you have these rising costs And so you have this mix and apple's case that felt like this actually is really a phenomenal quarter And Amazon's case I'm more concerned because they are a parameter for broader consumer spending We're starting to see that slow and you throw on top of that that cost equation that you mentioned Nathan And I think you get to a point where this.

With their top two picks, and I don't think it's that crazy to think that they could do that. So I think they'd take Neil here and then try to cross their fingers that Derek stingley makes it to them at 13. Well, I think I'm still not convinced that every team is the Garner singly thing. But that one of the corners make it to 13. Well, so I want to explain because if you're in agreement with Devin Neal at three to Houston, we can just make that pick and then we can. Okay, so now we're at this is a corner. To me, this is the and I say this as a patriots reporter and patriots fans might not like to hear this, but the best matchup or best combination of scheme fit and talent. Is Ahmad Gardner to the New York Jets at four. A perfect player, a perfect corner for Robert Salas scheme, right? They're gonna run that Seattle three. It's three. It's four.
