Los Angeles County Brewery, Restaurant Owners Feel They Have Been Vilified By Health Inspectors During Pandemic
"Got a story rolling out in Lancaster and Steve, This isn't just a you know Another brewery. I think this is the oldest brewery in Lancaster is not true that I do not know. No, no, I do not know all he knows they've been there for a while, and they're very popular and there Very good people up there. I've been up there a few times and they're very, very nice people. But why would a woman or a man or anybody get pleasure since and shutting a guy down on Super Bowl Sunday at the you know, after 11 months of trying to scramble just to stay alive. Don't know. And I don't know what her motive was. I can only tell you that this is part and parcel to a lot of the complaints. I'm getting from business owners and restaurant owners about inspectors coming in having a bit of a god complex and coming in. Knowing they have the total power on then some of these restaurants that have been just like repeated targets of the health department where it's like I remember when Barbara for rare County Health Department director said, You know when I say Why is this happening that hammer because, well, we have 33,000 licensed restaurants in L. A county. And she says, You know, it's not. It's not easy to get to all of them like, well, no, because they're fixated on 20 of them, and they keep going back to these 20 over and over and over and over and over. And you know, and I think what happens is that you've got a lot of pushback from restaurant owners because they're like, you know, we've had it and you know, it's what happened with Tin Horn flats in here in Burbank. The place up in Agoura Hills. I think, um I can't remember the name of that place up there. But He was defiant of that also, and and I think that's what was going on with the county. The county is like, you know, they're not gonna back down. They're gonna put all their time. Money and resource is into teaching these people a lesson.

At a Chicago hospital on the campus and north shop Michigan avenue. And they're multiple people shot reportedly the gunman is shot, not a whole lot of detail. When it comes you'll hear about it coming up. We just had Chris ancarlo on as the people up in the. Malibu Calabasas Agoura hills vicinity await rain perhaps on Wednesday. You know, how many times they forecast rain? And it turns out never to happen. That's part of the reason we've got these problems. And then you need rain at a certain intensity. Trigger mudslides, but it's certainly possible. And his Kris told you there's people standing in line getting sandbags there did try to give them some some fortification. Although if the big mudslide happens as we talked about. Montecito last year. There's nothing you can do. I really nothing. You can do. I will tell you though, that there was a rare moment over the weekend where I found myself in agreement with Jerry Brown. Trump came to town and met with. Brown and Gavin Newsom and the three of them stopped acting stupid for five minutes and saying dumb things Trump constantly carrying out about forest management and raking and Brown clattering about climate change. And there was one lucid moment, and when you have dementia, and you know, if you've had dimension, your family and Brown clearly does there. There are lucid moments. There are moments where there's clarity and your relatives speak normally, and they have a clear memory of the past. And they're they're making rational decisions, and then it fades away. Well, Brown had maybe it was the presence of Trump standing next to him in a moment of clarity yesterday. And. A reporter asked them. How do we curb these fires? And I think everything he says here in the next two paragraphs is right on except from a little bit of climate nonsense. You know, we've had fires for as long for long before Europeans. Let me try this again, you know, we've had fires for long before the Europeans showed up here. And are indigenous people had a different way of living with nature for ten thousand years. There were more never more than three hundred thousand people living in California. Now, we have forty million we have a totally different situation. So it's not one thing. It's people. It's how people live it's where they live. It's the changing climate, and we're going to have more difficulties things are not going to get better. And then he went into a climate spiel. But California has been hit by desert conditions as we repeatedly tell you forever. There was a period from the eighteen hundreds to the thirteen hundred's where it was a five hundred year drought in southern California five hundred years. So what we're going through here a draft. That's hit us for maybe what five out of the last six years. Six seven. We only had one fairly wet year and in northern California. They've they've had much more rain. There's nothing unusual. It's the first part where he's absolutely right. We've just got so many people you go from scattered tribes of indigenous people to forty million. Aw, and clustered together in these developments. On on hills. And the hills. People are surrounded by brushing hills. Very dry brush hills or they're right on the edge or inside forests. You you have to stop. Say to yourself as an individual. What am I doing? And do I want to go through this again? And then you go, and you you make you make your wager. But as long as you act emotionally and say, but I love the view. Odds are you're going to lose the bet you can't love the view. I'm going to read blade or on in the show, some really horrifying stories of people running away from the fire in paradise the LA times, some of the writers did great work. Getting people to talk. Just a few days after the fire when the memories refresh in the detail was fresh just how horrifying it was. I don't know if there's very few things in life are more or worse than than running away from a raging fire. People's shoes melting into the ground. They're they're closed catching fires the running getting separated from family members and their pets. I just the whole thing is a mess. And I kept after each paragraph. I was reading I would stop and I would say. Whatever the problems are in burying transmission lines wherever the cost is. It's better than this. Living without a view is better than this. This is the absolute worst situation to go through and obviously. Awadh lots of people didn't make it. Lots of people are going to be permanently scarred or disfigured. Lots of people have suffered immense loss that psychologically. They will take a long time to recover from. If they ever do. I'm not one of these people that gets caught up in the Rah Rah where everybody holds a vigil and say, you know, it's Malibu strong. It's paradise strong. It's a lot lot more difficult than act because I know a couple people have suffered losses, and it is it is devastating to your court. I don't think it ever ever leaves you. It's it's similar to a death. And a lot of cases up embarrassed. Specially it is it is death. And there's gotta be better way than this. And we've got to stop giving the electric companies pass. We we've we've gotta stop excusing all the weird human behavior that creates situations like this because it is it is a people situation. It is decisions made by adults that have created the Domino's a cascading effect and the electricity situation and the vagrant situation too. Because the bay grits are gonna cause more and more fires as they continue to proliferate, and I don't really care about the biggest problems. I don't really care about the electric companies problems. It's better than than the stories. I read over the weekend. What was happening to people trying to get away. And you know, maybe they got a view maybe they're with their friends. It's still better to live somewhere else. Than to experience with these people experienced. I think paradise is. Far away from us. So the local channels aren't giving it that much coverage. But it is horrific the inferno up there, and what people suffered from when we come back. Alex stone is in the paradise. Yeah. He's with ABC news. He's going to report KFI and tell us more about the situation there because they have a long long long road jest to try to find all the bodies or the fragments of bodies and deal with this strange missing list that seems to contain L thousand people that nobody knows if there's any validity to the list or not John and Ken KFI. We'll have a new town that's better than ever. Search crews are trying to cover as much ground as possible before rain is forecast to arrive this week, the rain could also affect some outdoor ten shelters. Fires except that forest management is so poor. And you said remedy now or no more fed payments. Of course that exploded. And it's I love that a couple of issues. Right. It is California follows exactly the same forest management. I think is the rest of the country national forest died national parks department etcetera. So the issue is a national issue. How to deal with forest? Fires wanted to deal with that later on because there is some controversy. There really is. But of course, it's only California that screwed up when Colorado fires hit Colorado. Arizona New Mexico, which can be massive in have been massive, they're fine. It's only California, and then the issue of no more fed payments, by the way, that's. Crock? Of course, there's going to be fed payments. He just talks wherever he signed the emergency declaration for when governor Brown asked for it for a federal signature on his end, which has to happen before FEMA jumps in. And so here he is talking the beginning. No, more fed payments. It's just it's bluster. This is once again, the president doing his bluster to make his political statement to ignite so to speak his base. So but still I mean come on. It's is he going to say it's like what I do in the morning when I started the show, I do I just just just being asked. What about also the fact that only two per cent of the state's forest land are controlled by the state. And about fifty seven percent are controlled by the feds. One percent is local governments and all the rest is private interests control, the forestry, the state of California as a political entity is has oversight over two percent of the forests. And I didn't know that. That's why the firefighters came unglued because they're like, whoa. You're misinformed or ill informed. I think was the word unusual is that okay? "On your wakeup call KFI AM, six forty more stimulating talk. Let's get back to ABC's Alec stone. We were talking about the fire the campfire burning around paradise and the state's most destructive fire is now also among the states to deadliest as Alex mentioned twenty nine bodies have now been found not burn zone around the town of paradise. This is Buchanan sheriff Corey Honi who says six of the bodies were found yesterday. Homes. One was in a vehicle and the sheriff says identifying those remains can be difficult you're often dealing with. The remains of humans who've been burned, and some cases, you might only have bones. Now, Alex is we were talking about you were mentioning that a couple of hundred people are still unaccounted for normally when we have a fire, and you hear of sort of extreme numbers like that we figure it's just somebody who hasn't been able to get in touch with their family in this situation considering the geography of where paradise was one way in one way out kind of up on hill over the Chico area. If I mean, my gut tells me that number is going to significantly increase as far as the death toll goes just because of the fact that you can't get in and out of their easily. It has been a two lane road for as long as anybody. Can remember people liked it? That's that way. That's why they lived up there. It was beautiful. It was remote. It was the place that was hard to get to you didn't have a lot of traffic going through there that also becomes a very deadly place to live. Well, yeah. And there were tons. Of cars that were burned over trying to get out of paradise. And at least the early bodies that were found not so much what the sheriff was talking about right there. But the early ones they were found in their cars. They couldn't get out. We heard from one woman a nurse at the feather river hospital in paradise. They evacuated the patients, and then the staff tried to get out and they were overcome by fire, and she talks about on the road to get out her car stopped. She had a newer model car, but the heat and no air to run through the engine came it stalled out she got out. She had talked to her husband, and he said just run run for your life. And she got out. She said her door handle was melting the bumper on the car was melting the paint on the outside of the car with bubbling off she said, she was sucking in the super heated gases, and she started to go to her knees. And she thought I'm done, and she said, she doesn't know how it happened. But she it was pitch black. It was daytime pitch-black. She was reaching out with her hand. And her hand hit a fire engine. And she said the decals on the fire engine were peeling off and firefighters were sheltering inside that engine trying to stay alive themselves. They opened up the door and pulled her inside and out of nowhere. Again. It seemed like out of nowhere a bulldozer came through and created a firebreak and she said the bulldozer. Operator was literally driving through the flames in that bulldozer. Creating that break a big enough to get that fire engine turned around, and they went back to the hospital and they sheltered in place back at the hospital, and she's alive to tell the story. She thought she was dead several times, but sucking in that superheated gas will kill you in a second. And she she was going down that road and tell there happened to be a fire engine with firefighters sheltering inside of that fire engine, and they yanked her in and saved her life, man. Those are the stories at literally have chills this morning that you hear and you hear of people. I mean, look at that, she's a nurse. She makes sure everybody in her hospital is about is evacuated before. Or the staff ends up going then their lives are in danger. And that just kind of loops us right back to the whole first responders putting their lives in danger to save the rest of us. And that's exactly what they did. Look at those firefighters sheltering in place who knows what what could have happened to them. If that bulldozer hadn't come through. I mean, you talk about right place right time in some of these situations. Well, in so many ways for her that I mean, she she was gonna die. They were going to die and tell the the engine came through and even this morning here in Malibu looking around. And I look at all of the sheriff's deputies and police officers from around southern California who have come here to secure the area firefighters up on Malibu canyon road is we passed by them as they were actively fighting fire up until a little while ago. There were the night drops going on helicopters passing over us above. They're all putting their lives in danger right now. Especially at nighttime. There are rocks falling on Malibu canyon road. There are boulders all over the place. And they told us going in be careful there. Coming down. And there are snowplow drivers who are pushing rocks. Those guys to they're pushing rocks out of the way with rocks falling all over the place. So firefighters can get in. I mean, there's a major effort going on around Malibu and Calabasas right now. And it's to save lives and save homes are doing everything they can Alex. Thank you so much, and please. Yes. Do stay safe as you're covering this. As we've been telling all of our reporters here at KFI. We want the stories, of course. But you know, you guys come first. So thank you for you. Also risking it to be out there to share this with us. You gotta thanks, Jen. All right. Take care. That's ABC's. Alec sound. And yeah, I wanna give you just a couple more bits of information before we take another break for traffic when it comes to the different evacuation centers around. People can go home if they live north of the one on one in Agoura hills and Westlake village. So again, you can go home if you live north of the one on one in Agoura hills Westlake village evacuation orders have also been lifted for oak park and Northridge. Ranch in Thousand Oaks area. But in Calabasas mandatory evacuations were expanded yesterday, and now applies citywide. So if you are in Calabasas get out, please all of bell canyon hidden hills Malibu into panga are also under evacuation orders. So is the part of the west hills lying west valley circle between Roscoe and van Owen? So again, the mandatory evacuations are ineffective for Calabasas all of bell canyon hidden hills Malibu antics to panga, and so as part of west hills that is west valley circle between Roscoe and van Owen. So there you go on that one please, please heed those warnings. I, you know, Alex, and I can't stress it enough. Just remember, I know you want to save your house. I get it. We've all been in an area. That's either Ben evacuated or we've got. I mean, we all live in California. We know how this goes we know the drill. But please just remember you trying to save your house. Also means you're putting those first responders endanger, please just take that into. You know, put that in perspective. I I can't I understand. It's your house at your memories. I get it. But don't forget your life is more important and their life is more important as well. So please just keep that in mind, if you get one of those evacuation orders, please heat it now Alex was sharing the story of the nurse at the campfire the paradise fire and how she barely made it out. How those firefighters may barely made it out. So how did everybody make it out who did make it out in the paradise area? Well, apparently some heroes drive buses at science teacher in northern California says fast acting in heraldic bus drivers helped evacuate students from schools during the fire that started near Chico paradise unified school district science teacher. Mark Kessler said teachers and staff also Fareed scared children in their cars Thursday after the school received evacuation orders. Six bus drivers arrived to help take students to evacuation centers. He said they feared for their lives as they drove through smoke and burning embers one hundred twenty five kids were able to. Be reunited with their. Parents. Rossio Rivera KO finding I don't wanna give a shout out this morning to celebrity chef guy Fieri who as we've heard when the fire near reading broke out. He went up there for a couple of days and just started feeding evacuees and firefighters he's done it again, he made the visit to bucolic so that he could feed evacuees and firefighters there it's little things like that. It's all those little things that people come out of the woodwork Indu four one another. So I don't care if you're a celebrity. I don't care if you went to a neighbor's house who you knew was evacuated or somebody's house you knew and you gave them food or whatever it was all those little things add up just think about what you could be doing today to help. I just heard some of the Pepperdine college. It now is not going to be back in session at Pepperdine university until after thanksgiving, and that includes the campus in Malibu, and the winning Calabasas so classes aren't going to resume now until after the thanksgiving holiday, and they were asking some of the students. Like, what do you need? What can we help you with? Well, some of the students said we had to evacuate certain places. Maybe it was their house or maybe it was their apartment living nearby. They don't have chargers. No cell phone chargers. No chargers for their computers. They're having trouble communicating with people because they don't have any any way to charge their phones little things like that think about what goes on in your everyday life. So when you're talking about what can you donate? I know that the Red Cross always says donate money. That's probably your best bet because they can best, you know. Distribute it they know exactly who needs what? But little things if you're thinking about what can you donate cell phone chargers? Something simple like that makes a huge difference. So again, if you have any questions about what you can donate or where to donate hit always hit me up on Twitter at JJ L KFI, if you've got any questions about where to evacuate also at JJ L KFI, I will answer your questions as quickly as I can all throughout the morning. All right. When we come back. We're going to talk with the national weather service because another big story coming out of these fires, of course, the Santa Ana winds, how long are they expected to stay how bad is it going to get is going to get as bad as it was last week. When these fires broke out, we'll check plus traffic forecast on your wakeup call..

"News the fire that started near Simi valley and burned into Malibu is it about thirty five thousand acres and growing L A county fire chief, Darryl AVI, says homes have been lost. But there's no number yet. Because of the conditions are plans are for tomorrow. Expect a low and the weather so we're going to try to give parameter control to contain the fire to the extent that we can because a wind shift as says another window vent is expected for Sunday. More than seventy five thousand people have had to evacuate due to this fire people who have left their homes in Agoura hills say they're afraid they won't have anything left to go back to this woman says with the shooting the other night at borderline bar and grill in Thousand Oaks Ventura County is having a rough week. There's just the outpouring of support. You couldn't ask for more support people are there for you. People will help you. It's just makes me proud to live here. Power has been out in the area since about two AM nearby. Fire officials say it reached the one zero one freeway income areso in about twelve to fifteen minutes. After it started yesterday. Fire information officer says crews have been dealing with extreme win. And extreme fire behavior resources couldn't even get in front of it. It was all about getting people out of the fire. "Brutal night or people live in the Thousand Oaks area. And people's nerves are just raw shooting last night at borderline bar and grill Volvo, beautiful people wiped out. A lot of them kids with their whole life in front of him. Marriages kids grandkids for retirement all wiped out. And. Dan. The fires start and fires. Are going to get everybody. Or not allow anyone to sleep all night long been worried sick about what's going on in their neighborhood. Just real quick. I wanna update the evacuation orders. I think it was Karen the caller segments about oak park, and we we've been talking about this evacuation area north of the one on one from valley circle to lend Darrow canyon. We talked about that one. Jane wells was on last hour, and how that is a massive area. Yes, it is. It's hills. It's oak park, it's hidden hills. And it's it's. I don't know probably of fifty maybe even one hundred square mile area. I mean granted a lot of that is open to preserve and it's a canyon and things but. You're talking about maybe tens of thousands of of people easily. So that is your mandatory evacuation order for the Wolsey fire bell canyon oak park Agoura hills and hidden hills north of the one zero one from valley circle over to ladera canyon. I'm looking at the fire right now on channel five it is it looks like it's everywhere. You know, when you get a fire station fire years ago, that's mushroom cloud. Fire in two thousand nine up over the hills in Acton. Right burned one area. It skipped another area burn one area. This doesn't look like it's skipping anything. It's just complete devastation. Yeah. The the winds are just pushing this south and west, and that's why they're they're ordering these evacuations for these areas of oak park Agoura hills in hidden hills. Because once it it burns through the chest, bro and Palo Alto. Coronado I should say canyon. Once it burns through there. It's nothing, but neighborhoods, right? And they cannot let this fire jumped the one. Oh, one in that area. Oh, no. I mean to get to the one on one would be devastating and there's thousands of homes between the north branch oak park area and the one oh one this is the smaller fire burning in Ventura County. But it it it does seem to be at this point one that they are most worried about because they were talking earlier about that five to seven thousand acre one near very park that it's kind slow down the spread of that slowed down a little bit. And you've got a lot of resources go into this one in in bell canyon, and I just saw a helicopter drop. Water on a an area that is filled with flames, and it honest to God with the wins. It looked like the water evaporated before it got to the surprise. Wouldn't be surprised. That's got to be very tough for those pilots. So in in in a few minutes will update the evacuation centers let you know, which areas are under mandatory evacuation orders because of the two fires in Ventura County. And we'll have an update on the so-called campfire and Buchanan northern California which fatalities reported, which makes this fire. Looked like a campfire. Let's talk to Nancy in can can valley. You know, the Instagram messages started coming in last night around eleven thirty eleven forty five and we found out where the was that. That's when my freak out got on. Because my son has lots of friends go every Wednesday night to college night. So that I'm texting tomorrow, then you know, as a kid, Tom JAGER, Madison. And by the grace of God. His group of friends did not go out last night. Boy, then you're staying up till two in the morning. Then you're you know, you're watching all of this. And then you wake up and. You know, you hear you hear the body count. Uh-huh. I have a friend in Burbank. I don't want to use your name wouldn't make any difference anyway, but she has a daughter that was walking out the door last night. To go to border line. And the mom said would you please? I just have. I just want your hometown. Can you please not go out with your friends? I just stay home. And you know, when you tell an eighteen year old girl that while she's leaving the house. She will slam her door and never talk to you again. She stayed home. Yeah. It was a miracle. The kids neck friends. I'll have all stories. The whole back story is like that lost my keys, I flaked out. But then my daughter gets the school today. She doesn't have high school, and they find out all the day that her high jump track coach lost his son. So tell our finance so he was areas plant borderline. You know, you got the fires. You look to the west. You've got the fire started. Then you look today. She got another fire starting the freeway sat down and you're trying to make the vigil, and you can't. And you you say to yourself what the hell could be next. Yeah. But don't give up. You can't give kids. Gotta keep going. Yeah. We'll call it again. Nancy? God bless you. And we'll take care of yourself. Thanks. All right there. She goes Nancy K kane'ohe valley them we're going to. Take a quick break. Check in with Nori. I believe and we'll come back. We're live on KFI more now with Aaron Ben let me go naval base is part of the mandatory evacuation list because of the fire near Newbury park. It has burned five to seven thousand acres. Kaneria springs is also under a mandatory evacuation order via Saito trailer park Cal State Channel Islands, which will be close. Tomorrow's wealth does vetoes and south coast all under mandatory evacuation one on one is closed between Newbury park in Camarillo springs. You have evacuation centers set up at Borchert community centre in Newbury park in Camarillo community center as well as the let's see the Rancho Santa Susanna recreation center in seamy valley, you could check VC emergency dot com. "For a bunch of quotes for Thursday like nicknames for Thursday's I can put it on Twitter make fun of people. Yeah. And. There you go. So I've got what Friday light Friday light. It's it's the new Friday, right? All right. It's Union Day. Because all all the union jobs. If you're if you're working four on three off Thursday's one of the days, you have to work. I don't know what the hell that's all about. But it's true. It's true start. All right. Let's get to angel here. Because people are pulling their hair out, man. It's a particularly tough night. Again, it is you know, what's kinda funky is that as we roll into to autumn the days become shorter dark outside. It's unbelievable. And you know, next week because of this weekend, we're going to set the clocks back roll the clocks back. It's going to be pitch dark, and whatever it is out. Now, this will be instead of six oh eight this will be five. Oh, eight so look outside. That's your five. Oh, wait son right now. It's unbelievable. Wow. So where are the trouble spots where people wanting to kill each other? All right. Of course, the ten in Santa Monica. It's the buffalo. Yes. Yes. Very slow single digit speeds eastbound away. From twentieth street all the way into mid city. And then it's just a mess as you continue into downtown LA that to ten eastbound I'm gonna I'm going to stretch it out a little bit. And we're going to start on the one oh one out of. Because they all connect and this right now, wait a minute. So are you talking like a gory hills? Yes. No it slows down eastbound. That's right. Getting out of Agoura hills. All the way. Four seventy split. It opens up for test a bit through to Luca lake. But then you're hitting it hard all the way to the about Brandon Glendale, right? And for some reason, you're the one thirty four between the two and the two ten is always like pretty open because a real Reno off-ramps are onramps to speak like one or two, but it's pretty open people behave up there. And then man today slam on the brakes, especially when I go to the racetrack. And there's that final turn before you get to Santa Anita. It's gross. You know that nobody can navigate this Terai. It's a it's a curve is a curve. It's a big curve that nobody can handle. And it's right. When you get to the end of Pasadena, east foothill between orange grove and east foothill, but right off of San Gabriel boulevard from San Gabriel boulevard right to Rosemead that one two major blocks so stupid, and there's that little curve there. A nobody can handle that curve. I don't get it. All right. So so it picks up another to ten is also jammed. Yeah. All the way from the win thirty four as you make your way toward citrus. Great. Wow. And then it opens up again, you think? Oh, yeah. Sugar city all the way to the fifteen now it's slow all the way from foothill pretty much Agoura hills to the fifteen. Yep. I'm looking at right now, which is unbelievable. Four zero five where the four zero five meets the ten everybody just stopped there for some reason. It was an accident or it's just too many people. This city. Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna take option B, right? There was an earlier problem in the sepulveda's pass on the four five southbound. But that's you know, up the road from from the ten earlier stalled there that's gone that there's gotta be a solution to this though. I mean, I think we may have to go back to a rationing you get to go on the freeway. If your license plate starts with like a through m one day like Monday and then Tuesday emphysema get it. But but everybody on the freeway, it just it, absolutely sucks, man. And you know, takes you an hour and a half to get home. You're tired you're exhausted. And you're pissed when you get home, you know, because you've been dealing with idiots for an hour and a half complete. Isn't that what it was the the gas rations in the seventies? Yep. That's exactly right. We go back to freeway rationing here. Yeah. And you know, another tough spot TIMMY is that ninety one. It's always a mess. Slow away from the one ten freeway to the five two so little opening. But then it's slow moving ahead out of Anaheim all the way into corona all the way..
