"Why don't you cover a little bit about I had I had an interesting question for you about running your own show. You'RE GONNA answers. Well I. I've asked a few other host the students. How do you not let it become? A job like how do you keep the fun in it? What that's of cut out on me. Okay? Like how do you? How do you not let it become just a job? Like? How do you keep the fun the inside of running a show? or G not see I'd have a lawn answer dot, but I'll try and keep it as. They can before I get into hunting, I was fortunate enough to work in hockey on ended up working in semi pro hockey at the age of twenty, so we've traveled all around the US and doing the radio announcing I play hockey. Can play more, and it'd be for whatever reason get radio and sales, so I got my broadcast and I was doing the radio all around the states couldn't even drink, but it was awesome and not turned hockey into work for me. I hated it so I left it and I came back home and I actually called while TV Helgi in its wealthy every day for eleven days straight, and like hey I got paid for one passion. Why can't I get paid for the other? And on the twelfth eighty interviewed me, and he called me on the next Monday and offering me was was dumb enough to offer me a job and I never looked accent. But I started doing sales for the network. I didn't start with a show. And then I pitched the show. And then obviously you're sponsors industries all sponsorship around, but the nice part about the hunting is. The work and sponsorship and the sales and the promotion, etc, etc, etc, it's totally separate from the actual hunting Yeah, you gotta a camera guy, but at the end of the day you do a for a year or two, and it just becomes kind of that's hunting I you just Kinda talk to the camera, and it just works into your hunting routine, and it's still you know the sales and the business side of it is entirely separate from actually going on and company. So that's kind of how I've it. And I mean other guys have different answers, but that would be mine. However, I would say if.

"Given US ed anybody who wants to go over there. Bolton is a form of me that they make over there, and it is to die for you ever hunting in Africa. You have to try bulletin. rather than not it's. It's weird because you know you'll drive like I said to join in one spot, and you look out your window like a minimalist Angeles Vegas. And then you'll drive twenty minutes out of town, and you look around, and you'll see what you'd see on like not deal where it's. Hodgson and you know little shocks that are. Maybe five hundred square feet all around and you know three four five people will live in one of those. However every one of those huts. Everybody in there is going to have an iphone, and there's probably a fifty inch screen TV inside there and the craziest part like you literally have better service there than you do in actual kids you not. Anywhere you go middle of the desert million where you have full bar service and the reason being is those companies like tell us which is Vodafone then one other one. I can't remember the name of. They'll set up just one tower to accommodate one or two of these little villages, because there's so many people. They're making so much money so everywhere you go. You're literally connecting to a tower regardless where you are countries of Africa, but to tie back out of their culture. It's interesting and the hunting culture I'll just speak to more probably than a true. African culture, but It's weird in the sense that we go out and we hunt you in line. For example we shoot the lie, and we take our cheers your interview for the show. About global box and Let's go, and you just walk away from your line. You touch it. You don't do anything then they draw pin in the in the skinner's come. Get it. They loaded up the drive. com and they skin it again, and you'll see. Rining for comes back from North America. So that you know for a guy who usually you know. I'll shoot and I'll stand in dot, and handled it all before I even consider moving on. That was almost kind of weird almost felt really weird doing that, but you know I. Did ask Said Hey? y'All be. Can I skin my own animal. He says you can. You're Outta me? Want just knowing that my skinner's per animal and you're literally taking money out of these people's pocket, and they don't make much all of a sudden. You're like done. Count even asked twice. Yeah, yeah, for sure I mean that's that is part of that cultural experience for sure yeah. Yeah and then as far as travel. was there anything different traveling there as far as logistics go? A little more I would say A. Little more technical than these union, actually and the reason being is. I'm really good friends with Rob Donna who's probably been Africa thirty times books tons of foreign Hans one of the bigger hunt booking guys in in Canada. Maybe even work miracle truthfully. with Magnum reloaded.

"Nice? Okay, so let's go onto the African hunt so. What time of the year did you off to Africa? So we were doing this time last year. Actually actually I think I shot my line yesterday last year. So. Yeah, that's right so both you know we're into wearing the sprains and they're and they're gonNA fall. But. It's still you know. Plus thirty high temperatures so we flew over there connected to Frankfurt fourteen hour layover in Frankfurt and then went down to Johannesburg. We got picked up their. Option to fly, but we decided to drive just for the sake of footage seven hours out to the Kalahari Desert and I gotta say down. Their culture is a little bit different. We'll get into that, but It's still pretty Westernized. I'M NOT GONNA. Lie, anybody who's scared or frightened. Go to South Africa, and they look it up and yeah Johannesburg is the per capita murder you know. Place in the world it leaves the whole world per capita murders, but sent an entertainer Calgary or Vancouver. If you go looking for trouble, you'll find it, but if you're smart, and you just stay where you need to be, but we went to them all over there and it looked like West. I'm at the mall, so. No So, what? What did you all hunt in Africa than? We did number of planes game There was myself and my uncle. Actually who back McCreevy show rawhide not a lot more with me He's still quite a bit with your on rifleman and was fortunate. Join me in Africa We did a lot of planes game. Gems Bach Libra Pyla Warthog Sable. What else missing a few, but and then obviously we did We did some dangerous game to and. But I shot a a male line. which was you know always kind of on my dream last never in a million years I think I'd be able to do it, but fortunate enough to to get done with Yuppie and horns. African Safaris there last year. not the not the biggest may not an MGM lion, by any means kind of a phase one maybe face to the kind of I'm not gonNA say score, but they classify my and and phases of their main, so if they get to their shoulder their phase one..

"I guess in everywhere. You look when we're out hunting. Hunting I always found myself looking at my cameraman woman. In that case I guess film film film that, but literally like you could just fill everywhere. You Look in New Zealand. And it looks like seen Lord, the reins and funny enough some of the places that we hunted on the fillmore terrains, but kind of DOC. Your question, some kind of getting off off track here, but. With respects to culture. Honestly, it's really close to the same. They. Really, close the same they. They're a lot more laid back. you know we'll, we'll get there. May Don't worry about it? Just you know. Let's just have a good time, and which really relates to me right? I don't like to be all uptight. Running gone all. Take it easy, and you're always going to get the job done, and I guess I thought you know really correlated while with without hunting style over there it's very much mountain hunting, and and very much the most important part of it is that you have a good time, but with respect to true culture. New Zealand. A, just over here in Canada, substitute hockey with rugby, and you've basically got this anyways. So is there before we move onto the Africa hunt? was there any anything that you found tough about like logistics like travel getting there? Know importing you probably brought your own rifle. things like that like any any sort of things. You might want to say to the audience if they're planning on travel to New Zealand about specific things, you should have sets. Yeah, you know it's funny. We were just talking about this the other day. Nian bunny minds. And I've been fortunate offing I've done a lot of a lot of hunts. I've been lucky enough that I haven't run into any issues yet. You know the paperwork is it's it can be you know curious, but at the end of the day you just do it, you get all. Your stuff takes a couple of days. You'd all your permits you go to weave flew. Air New Zealand which is throughout Canada to New Zealand. Three hundred bucks. You got to pay them, and they give all the paperwork at check in. You gotTA show up three hours before with your rifle and. The most part they don't deal with it a lot, right? You know being Air Canada Ernie's new any airline. Deals rifles a lot, so it is slow. But they're usually pretty good and scared. He's usually pretty good like I. said I've been lucky, but with respect to once you get there. You go get your rifle and New Zealand. You go right to the police and they check it. Make sure everything's legit and they actually issue permit saying you can have that gun in..

"Zealand Safaris Jim Gibson reached out to me said. Hey may want you. Come on down here in basketball. Tar Unbelievable, hot and I'm like okay fine Akam. Don't don't threaten me with a good time. I gotta say like I always wanted red stag I got one with Jim and twenty seventeen. About four hundred injured beautiful beautiful animal. But the bull hunt shatters this day. It's above and beyond more challenging and. I look back on it a lot more than I, do my on. So what would you? What would you consider like the toughest physical aspect of the Tar, hunt? Those mountains are lot. Lot steeper than the rockies. They're not as you know. They're not as high. They're not as tall steeper, so you've really got a pay attention and you know mind what you're doing. Make sure you don't slip up obviously just. than any other mountain climb going on is is never easy, but. More so just I guess the mental aspect of it which I think you know she punters would relate to. Get out there. Especially on sheep hunting Oh four five six days You GotTa have that. Mental Mindset in and I was for me. I realized I was honestly truthfully and I ever since last June I got home and Derek like I said a mentor of mine heels a performance academy, for mental, performance and physical peak performance and He was kicking my ass over there. I'll just call it what it was and I got back realized are hey. I'm twenty five years old and I'm out of shape so since then it's just been you know workouts running. Actually that's why I was a little late for this style. You know down here in in Cochran Bertarelli now running some hills, and that was probably the hardest aspect for me truly was my mental mindset wasn't inject and thought it was just out of shape. Well, you know that's. In any hunting situation. Nature doesn't wait for you to keep up. And you know like last year when when I was in my brother-in-law, Travis, we're on our mountain goat hunt. The same thing. We were we physically prepared for it and stuff, too, but until you're out there. You just don't realize no, did you? Did you spike camp at all out there was it up and down every day. We did actually the one night we decided. Hey, we're GONNA spy capital. It didn't end up working. Mind you every other day we hiked up. Hike down, which in hindsight I'm like. Jeeze. Maybe we would've been better off to stay up there, but one of the Nice parts about new, Zealand is. There, so I mean the permissions the Jim has it's all free rein John Tar. There's no fans to tar, but..

He is the host of the rifleman on sportsman. Channel and its sister show to the best of the West and we're going to be talking about things regarding his recent trips to New Zealand Africa logistics. Some of the culture experiences some of the learning experience. On super excited so welcome here Jordan. Thanks for joining today. Like I just WanNa thank you guys for Adamy! Love doing stuff like this. You know that's the reason why I even got an on TV. Just to you know talk, teen with some like minded individuals and hopefully get some some new guys into hunting. I mean. Get out there. Try It really. That's why I do the show. That's what the rifleman's all about out there having a good time with your friends and your family, and just taking in what the great outdoors have to offer, so just just give us a brief overview of the rifleman. It's a new show. How many guys are you working with and kind of what's the? What's the features of the show? Guess with respect to host. It's just myself. Growing up, I was always a believer that hunting was. It was a group thing. Go hunting like I said to have fun with my friends, my family and create memories that will last forever. Obviously you know hopefully commemorated with trophy on the wall like some of the ones behind me, but not always the case and The trophy is memories out in the field I'm so the rifleman I'm always out there with with a group of people being my friends, my uncle, my cousins, my father my GRANDPA. And then you know like you said they're being assisted showing a best of the West and Husk them all optics and you know working with those guys in helping them as much as I can up here in Canada with some distribution. To really try to focus on the lawn, range shooting, and you know how to practice that ethically some shooting tips, and obviously everybody loves the shots and nineteen shells. Let's just call it what it is. You're not going to catch an episode of the rifleman without at least one or two or three gill shots so right right, so it's not just always so it's different people on the show. Depending on the episode and things like that, too, so that's really cool. Yeah, for sure awesome so. Let's get into the nuts and bolts here of. Year New Zealand and I know you're in new. "Hall Zack who's writing about the delay of tariffs on certain Chinese good and how it might actually be like Colin retailers Christmas stockings so Serra president trump admitted yesterday that he's delaying the terrorists to avoid consumers being affected during their Christmas shopping that's right in some measure of comfort to these retailers out a lot of them draw outside portion of their sales in November and December toy stores are a good example of that they get about thirty percent of their sales during that time of year department stores get about twenty seven percent of their sales at that time of year so did not have to make this tough choice about giving consumers sticker shock during this crucial season is certainly at least the near term benefit for retailers trump has been see sawing on tariffs and it's hard to know what's going to happen because there's no seeming strategy how does that affect retailers and they're planning basically put a giant cloud of uncertainty over everything that they do from pricing to where they should source goods from two how much inventory they should hold at any given time and that's really difficult for retailers to manage this is already an industry that is in a sort of a once in a generation moment of change given the rise of E. commerce get in how many once ubiquitous stores are going out of business and so to now have this other wild card looming in the background at all times simply makes it really difficult for them to make good choices about their businesses and so you're saying that while this reprieve on the terrace is is great for them it's a reminder of what's happening with trade and how they really can't count on it yes because the fifteen this over and over again from president trump right out with it earlier batch of terrorists they were supposed to go into effect January first of them were delayed till March fifteenth I there was in may I he raised the specter us putting good on putting a terrifying all good coming in from Mexico okay as part of a bid to get his way on immigration policy and that was threatening to folks who sold down and just as he filled avocados another produce to auto makers on and then that sort of evaporated within the span of two weeks when the countries are able to reach an agreement and so you just keep having this waffling back and forth as how it was going to happen on the terror friend and not just yes this was just one more reminder that there is no certainty on trade when it comes to this administration remember the avocado scare no is the retail industry working on any long term solutions to this problem or are they just waiting it out definitely working on long term solution to a lot of them have been trying to news manufacturing out of China for some time now for a variety of reasons because sometimes it's cheaper to make it in other countries at this point and as we move to a world where at fashion is it moving very quickly because of the internet and trains go boom and bust quickly there's been some discussion about near sourcing being a benefit in other ways that if you make a good closer to where your headquartered that you might feel to get things on store shelves more quickly and that would have the benefit of its own certainly the retail industry over all has been reconsidering its supply chain trying to make it more balanced and this tears pressure test encourages them to accelerate what about the the price though of doing business elsewhere not doing business in China it really varies and you know certain countries it might actually be cheaper to add me goods then it is in China at this point especially when you get to you know is selling apparel items like sweaters still still do tend to be made in China because they take some specialization and things like that don't require as much specialization in the manufacturing process those are easy to make it a lot of different places in Bangladesh in Vietnam and perhaps even in Africa Jordan and so there are some other options out there for those goods but it's just going to take a long time for it to be and not other factories in the world to support all the demands that out there I spoke start moving production of trying yeah because the made in China labels are still on so many things that you buy no you also took in your column about industrial companies having been through this and the headaches they've suffered through that's right and they may provide a certain example for what we could see in the retail industry so what we saw in industrials which were affected by some earlier tranches of terrorists is that the try to plan ahead and its stockpile some of their goods to get ahead of the parents well then when they were in the implementation of this terrace were delayed their customers and that kind of staying on the sidelines and not placing orders and they were stuck with excess inventory which is at challenging from a balance sheet and cash for perspective right into the retail industry could end up in the same position where it tries to be smart get ahead of the game I get a lot of clothes on both before certain deadline and in that deadline goes poof they could be stuck sort of bearing the brunt of trying to have some foresight Sir how long before retailers get a feel of how the Christmas retail season is going to be it's hard to say I mean he is I would say that most of them start dear sort of Christmas deals bonanza's in early November at this point which might feel crazy it given as to how long that how far ahead that is of Christmas but I think all of them are expecting it to be very promotional holiday season as it has been for a long time now where they're really gonna have to win with consumers with value pricing and discounts but I think they're also expecting that the consumer is still largely upbeat right now I'm feeling pretty healthy and will be willing to open their wallets into I will have to see and I think early in November will start getting some read on how all those factors are coming together okay thanks so much there is always that's Bloomberg opinion I made the wrong choice. I mean, it's Friday night. I meaning vegetables dinner. This is not the dinner that I wanted on a Friday night dinners import. It's just a bowl of guacamole. So we go back to July and Carl Carl Carlito, what's your type? Well, I like smart funny. Females females giants. And then if you turn the lights on your skin, your thematic, too, and you have a twin sister and just in my name over and over and over and over and over again, and then I can dump you and make you feel weird all summer. I like that. That's my type also have masturbated to move on quite a lot. So if you could introduce me to do on that might actually workout low point of this meal. "But it's like there was some part where I was just one human who made about forty bucks. At least I can do. It was like read your mouth. I also will say that the less nice version of this. I have a very like I have occasionally in my life like totally spiraled out about how few books who I'll read in your life. Like if you were reading like fifty bucks a year, which is quite a bit like as a book a week like in ten years, you've read five hundred bucks. It just really you read like you've maybe read fifteen hundred bucks in your life. Maybe two thousand it's really kind of horrifying. And I get horrified about it. And part of that is also that I had like have since since Africa, Jordan college. I have like a list of all the books that I've read like just a notebook. And there is I'm not gonna lie. Like there is a thing about putting a book on the list. Like, I mean, it's believe me. I was reading a lot more. There's very few books go unless these days, but it has like a pelt quality on a book on the list to be like worth being one of the low non books here. No, no. I do like I can't go on the list if I didn't finish it. So like, it has to have been read to completion. So there is like just even like a quiz it of nece to it. Yeah. I press you've kept the same notebooks. It's college I can barely hold onto one notebook until it's filled up. I keep a list of all the books I read by year. But I keep it in a Google doc will actually Google sheet, and I have a different tab forever. I transferred parts of it to like into into Email. So it exists in in printed and paper. Yeah, imprint you're your you're fundamentally considering all the books, you'll get to read it for you guys. Like one of the earliest for me ways of truly confronting your mortality is nothing nothing. How can that be? That's like your five year old version really never going to read any more books. Yeah. No. It's it's it's very accessible, especially when you when you imagine how many more tabs will be on your Google sheet and wasn't Bill even be Google sheets. Probably just keep it in my mind, cloud and a couple of years. But, but yeah, that sense of scarcity of opportunity to read is one intimate thing critic, I know who I will not name to protect him. Or her told me once that they have a firm policy of never reading any of their friends books. Like, if you are a journalist in New York City, you probably have like ten friends come out with a book and any given year five to ten and he's like if you read or she is like if you read all those books, that'd be all you read for the rest of your life. And what are the odds that your friends are going to rate past Brooks? That you should read like they may be very smart. They may right. Very good books. But just never read any of funds, which I thought was like an amazingly ruthless approach to this question, not one that I share. But when that I thought it was thought provoking, I'm in a moment where I'm painfully aware of the number of books. I will read before I die, and the fact that I'm like extremely lightly read among the Russians and really need to get to Anna Karenina at some point. I will. I will someday I read that recently because I also was feeling bummed out about it. And it was so dope. Yeah. I'm not blur Radic. Not like concerned or afraid of it or anything. I'm just like having to saving it. Hopefully, I won't I won't get hit by a bus. But I am at this moment as our listeners know where I need to read fiction with plot at bedtime like really goes.
