But secondly, there's just so much about it to enjoy still. But like me, you're a Chicago Bears fan, self sabotaging disaster of the team. I'm also an Everton fan, even more self sabotaging disaster of a team, White Sox fan. You do have a therapist, yes, roger. Yeah, it's you. It's talking to you, baby. Did I ask you? I mean, won't talk to the worst. AFC Richmond, there were essentially all I got. And I don't want spoilers or anything, but tell me we're going to be okay. We're going to be all right, right. And be able to click into that and sort of feel the responsibility of conveying that when meeting people or hearing people's feelings about the show or their reaction to the show or how it's helped them through difficulty, whether it be because they've gone through a similar thing with maybe a parent like Ted's father or it helped a family member deal with something in a hospital room or a classroom or what have you is, I wouldn't say overwhelming, but it is very moving. You can't help but change the way you view people in the way you meet them wherever they are and to just kind of offer a little grace in space towards whatever they're going through and hopefully can turn that same those same values onto myself and to the people nearest and dearest to me, not just the strangers that are brave enough and kind enough to come up and say hello or share their stories with us. "Haircut. Storyline is awesome. Who guys it called. The gives one haircut season so good is just an unbelievably incredible thing and like the art behind everyone like rallying behind like the way that isaac is considering. Sam matador like a entrance with the tools and the dancing around and a great character. The way that the us isaac on on the show he sort of does have like this like he just like kind of have like this. Call drago vibe about him. You know what i mean. There is like this sort of warlord quality to him and like the way that he leads. This team i think is really really great. Yeah look how he won. The respect of roy canon sees it was by breaking television. That is raqi as you can get in that film room. I think without breaking laws. There's a lot more to talk about the haircut. I love the haircut is well. I thought the haircut was really great. There's something in the west wing. You may not have seen an allison janney moment. The jackal is very reminiscent of the jackal hours. Just basically lip sync that. Allison janney performs. That is like among anyone who knows in the office at the west wing just this legendary performance that she will occasionally do on at moments of True rebels So she performs it on the show and it is very very similar to this. Where it's a yawn moss. Moment where it's just like. Don't are you really talking to me while the jackal is happening like you're doing this now like it's just it's very very reminiscent of that and i. I really enjoyed that scene. And i you know this is the benefit of having a longer episode because we can have just great moments like this which really just add a running joke to the show where people talk about the haircut throughout whether it's our low wider rebecca but Just in a really good team moment and it feels very much like part of the. Afc richmond vibe. I really really liked it. This.

"It's a pair of sunglasses that a woman wants complimented him while he was wearing like. That's the most important thing he's got to burn. Don't think this is because nate's shallow guy because nate is a guy who desperately needs validation. He's not getting it at home so when he gets a taste of it. It's not surprising to me that it goes to his head. I just started my go to his head and a slightly different way but clearly the way it's going to his head is to be really difficult with how he his power and really gross. So that's the sort of thing that you can definitely imagine as you're saying does not end. Well i don't know what else what else it could take. My assumption was at some point. That nate would publicly blasting ted lasso. I thought that might happen really right after that match. When nate kind of took the stage after ted walked off. I really thought there was a possibility in his post match. Presser that would really put ted lasso on blast and say we don't need ted to win like this isn't about ted lasso. He just sort of pooh-poohed and i think food poisoning or something. He didn't really get into it. But you could foresee a situation where the darker this gets. The more likely it is that nate uses that platform really blast the internal issues at afc richmond. So that's the part where ultimately like i said it's fruit of the poison tree that he is ted's issues and that that that flows grows from the divide that has created because of ted's problems but it is nonetheless a team problem. Nate problem everyone problem. And not just ted problem regardless of how or where it started. But i think you're really right to localize that with ted and nate because i don't think one exist without the other we saw tedd be such a positive influence with nate season. One yes and if that like attention to detail is no longer there. Leadership leadership is no longer there. Right right so i think that that's obviously very problematic and i feel like there's a lot of different directions. This could go. This could be something that doesn't have such a drastically climactic ending that. Maybe it's not too late. But i think that it is a real credit to the show that there is this feeling of tension of what's going on with nate is not that great right. This feeling of like nate. The not so great right now is not something that i think any lasso fan true ted lasso fan is like like like marking with like with with any level of relish like. I don't think anyone is the edible skied or of course you knew what our side i heard. I was trying really hard to phrase it differently. Because i knew that we would be able to say with relish without talking about condiments. I don't think my ted talk. I don't think anyone is psyched about this. You know what i mean like. No one is happy about this. We're concerned for this fictional character. Right like i think people really like nate. He was a character who like his growth arc across these in one was so wonderful to watch. And so that we're going into this direction. It's not an earned. It's not without precedent. It's not without a lot of work underneath it to get us here. I think it is a an acknowledgment as it is in ted storyline as well that you don't just promote somebody in now they live happily ever after like the the process of being a healthy human being is life long maintenance like this is a you don't like do with thing and now it's fixed forever you do a thing and then you probably are going to have to do another thing and then the thing after that and you're probably going to have to be doing a lot of these things simultaneously and it's exhausting. I know why. I'm even saying this because we all know that. Like yeah i mean it's it's fascinating that show that has the uplifting positive h- your vibe of ted lasso can get into this in a subtle and specific way like they're doing with nate and be so effective about it right in in a way. It's like making you laugh so that your belly is exposed and then slam hyphen between your ribs. They're really getting there with that n. Eight they're setting. I do think the show does a fantastic job of setting the stage for this sort of thing. I mean we can talk about every nate scene and really map it out along this journey. And i know probably everybody in this day and getting sick of data visualizations but it would be a very interesting chart of peaks and valleys with nate. And where we're at right. Now is a deep deep valley. I'm not sure if it's the x. y. axis. i can't remember but we're well below the line And it's just you have to remember like a couple of episodes ago. When nate had no confidence about getting that table and rebecca and keeley were in that moment in in. Rebecca helps nate realized. Like you just have to kind a buck up and say like i can get whenever i want. I know who i am and she basically says like you deserve whatever you want. Don't back down and like that seems to be the sort of line that you feed to the wrong person at the wrong time and you create an evil villain like just an evil like a true mastermind. And if you walk around as your nate right now in the position that he's in having been gassed to buy all the positive feedback and been like just completely triggered by one negative. Tweet don't back down. you deserve whatever you want like. That is the kind of mentality that lead you to barge into. Will's office and treat him the way that he did. So the the good advice they gave nate. That helps him get. The table can also be bad advice when it comes to nate making his way through difficult times and that's why the maintenance is important because it isn't just about this one fix and you use the wrench to tighten this thing up and all of a sudden you can get a table and you can do well in a match and your fixed no. It's maintenance like you might have over tightened the screw here and you might not put yourself in a position where things are going to be fixed so i love that. We're seeing that with nate. Even though that. I hate that we're seeing that with nate. Yeah i don't like it. I don't like it like i'm not mad at the show for going here like that. No like very important like clarify that line. I think it is like the show. The show's intentions right. Now are working. You know like that's the thing is like i think what the show is aiming for right now yet. They're they're hitting yeah right where they're trying to or at least they are with me. I i really. Don't i really don't feel good about it. But that's what they want. Can i ask you. We talked about the father issues. I wanna know we know that nate's in a bad way right now and we know that it knows in no small part from what the show is shown us to his inability to please his father right like even in this moment where natives on the back page of the newspaper fixture featured prominently wonderkid. All of his mom knows it. Natives just showing up with flowers happy clearly showing up to get praise his father will not give it out and instead just basically says they say humility is not thinking of yourself but thinking of yourself less in a different milieu or indifferent moment. I feel like that would have been really good advice tonight. But that moment it is so crushing is nate's dad the key to all this and is there a world where you feel like this gets fixed in some way by nate coming to a better relationship or understanding with his father. Well i think that the show has given us a lot to chew on as we have been talking about all season lying about all the best cowboys having daddy issues. What's up jay wilpon. I feel like that is that is like very much on the mind of the show. And it is certainly no coincidence that we are framing this episode with like nate's Actions at the end of it. We're framing that against a his father. Having like no reaction to the wonder kid you know. I don't know if that's going to be the thing. That cures nate is a better relationship with his father. Or like you know like the two of them living happily ever after whatever. Unfortunately.

He basically said it's their empire strikes back. Yeah of course yeah. And of course there's darkness in empire strikes back and that's gonna lose a hand that he will find out about his father which will be a little bit rough probably going to get into the real father issues and maybe that's what he meant by that fathers. You're going to be put in centerstage. There's going to be a big a confrontation in that regard. I don't know we speculated lot about ted. We've seen it on display with nate. So that's possible. I guess but ultimately they said it in the context of this show. The dark forest doesn't come along at the beginning. And it's not there for the end. It's their smack. Dab in the middle and ted tells the team and i guess there by the audience that this is their dark forest moment there in the dark forest right now so i think it's important to trust the process and keep that in mind right like the show has told us this is their dark forest moment. This is their. That's where they're at right now but the told us that that happens in the middle of things at the beginning or the end and we know it's at three season plant so if this is the dark forest season and some some difficult things are going to still happen. It doesn't mean that we're going to end up that way. And i think we will have good things to come. We'll be dancing with walks Soon to come john. Oh my god. Yes i just i. I'm trying to think of like. I'm trying to think of where where we're going with this. I mean i think that there is. There's a very important conversation that the show is having about like you know. A guy like nate. Who was shown so much unexpected respect and like appreciation as a human being by the coach of richmond. Right that he has this person not only ask for his name but he remembers it and his story across. That season is becoming a taken so seriously that he is given a position on on the coaching staff. And that's happening really quickly. And i don't know if the message here or the thing to export here is necessarily like that wasn't a good thing to do but are there other parts of the process that have been unchecked as it regards. Ted and nate you know. I think like they've they've they've let a lot of they've witnessed a lot of nate's behavior and until this one. Where beard says what he says to nate Like it hasn't really come up in a very direct way. The ted part is very important. Because that's the first question to beard. Beard confronts him as you didn't tell ted did you. And as we have seen throughout this season. Ted laughs when nate says we need a big dog to talk to isaac. I'll do it lasts right in his face and like. Oh you're being serious. Did you know that beard and be. It's like yemen so ted is doing that. A lot of this is happening. Well ted is asleep at the wheel. And i think it's a small thing but in this episode when ted witnesses nate apologize to the team says i feel like i missed something up. Ted's metaphor that he uses his like. This is when you leave the stove on and you pass out too early. After having too many beers while watching citizen kane like such a specific reference that it's clear that is happened and i think it speaks to ted being asleep at the wheel. Maybe ted leaning into the substance abuse like all the things that we know have been happening with. Ted up mean that ted has not been there meaningfully to capitalize or to build on what. He was building with nate season. And we saw look at this season right when net is trying to cy net when nate is trying to slide the thoughts from the teen talk under the door in in the episode make rebecca great again when they're in liverpool and ted is a little bit drunk and a little bit harried about the divorce and he shouts at nate screams at him and runs away. Scared like we've seen what a negative relationship between ten and eight can look like it. It has happened on the show. And i think it's happening right now. With ted's lack of oversight and management nate bullying will so much at the beginning of the season. And ted not doing anything about ted's handoffs hands off style in season one. When it was nate being bullied. Ted had a plan to make roy take care of it. I don't know if ted has a plan this time around. I think this might actually just be dereliction of duty. And not that. He is some grand plan where beard innate will figure out nate's issues on their own without needing to step in like. I definitely think this is a product. I mean nate stepping up and being made the great. The wonder kid was only. Because of ted's issues was only because ten ran off the pitch in fear or sorry in panic. So i think ultimately this is there. A lot of what's happening with nate has to be cast along. What's happening with nate for sure. Ted which is about what's happening with ted. So that's conflict man. That's conflict right here in the season. Because i think like this. Is you know nate continues to behave this way. And if it escalates beyond the latest escalation which you imagine it very well could considering we are up through episode seven of twelve. You know we still got some road here. That like does nate have a job here at the end of the season. Type of deal you know. What is ted's role in in that like are there. You know they're not a question. There are lines that you can't on cross right like you know there are. There are certain things that you can't get pep talked out of you know you can't like pep talk your way out of certain bad behavior. That's just not an option And i'm concerned. I'm very nervous about that. And i think like the way that that that runs in tandem with ted himself feeling a bit adrift. And if for him if the real success for ted is less about like the win loss record in terms of like how the team is actually performing out there in the sport and is more about like the win loss record in terms of the culture of afc richmond. This is a huge huge loss. That is happening right. Now that he seems to be completely unaware of and it's it's got potential to be like very very very prickly the further down the field we get with both of these characters definitely Especially because you can see that for nate. It isn't that he resorts being. Let's just say a little bit harsh or a little bit like the banter that he delivers on the field when he says in front of the guys like i benchpress the other day. Colin like the team. Ause like oh you know. Like nate snapped on him. That's the way it goes. And that's sort of how they responded to his Locker room talk in season. One just like oh yeah. He's got he's got banter. Like nate has the ability to cut at us. And there's a little bit of respect that comes with that it's like okay you can. You can take but you out like we're all on the same page here. But then how personal he gets sometimes. How quickly he can get to that personal and in the wrong context it can. It can seem like it's really headed in a bad direction. So that's the part. That i think is the most concerning when you said could this end with losing his job. I hadn't actually thought of that. I would i will say when he was scrolling through mentions on twitter i thought he was going to slide into the dm's and i thought okay. Here's a guy who's been thirsty. He's been thirsty for the adulation for him. In the way he's described it. That often comes hand in hand with the romantic adulation. I mean i would think. I think it's a little.

One and i know i'm late to the game man. That's how with their own man. I same thing. With game of thrones man. I just i was late. I started watching it and just couldn't stop watching episodes man. I've been watching. This marathons of of ted laso should the other night. I went to bed and could not sleep and it was because of ted lhasa and find out what's don't happen to ted man. This show. i do watch the show. Yes i have my friend in dallas on the visit him and he kept talking about it and he has apple tv so he sat me down to watch a bunch and despite him the entire time. And i mean the entire time going. Watch this part. this is funny coming up here. You got to see this watch watch. i'm watching. It was like watching it with less experience but despite him doing it the entire time. I've thoroughly enjoyed it. And i get why people like it because it is a show where you think okay. It's going to have some cynical bite to it but not this character is. it's refreshing. Want something like man when people said that this was a feel good show. Because everybody's talking about you getting tired of life pandemic and you down stupid as people ruining your day cut on ted last. I've said i'll be damned. They are right. Yeah got me. Feeling a little porn moustache. She got his optimism. But you got the shame from game. Yeah man that chick is fine. Because i remember everybody told us they said look is it may not that that none that was bringing that bill say they say man look up in real life and jesus hannah wedding wedding ham. She sold yeah sheets. She's about as tallish. Game of thrones too but yeah man he's characters so you haven't seen this show. I'm just telling you to give it a chance man. Because i'm glad i got on it because the show is getting so many good reviews people talking about it so much people love and his show. I'm sure i'm gonna catch it at the point where people gonna be like man fuck dish. So that's the only go that's already started. I just read at the beginning of last week. There's now the taylor lasts backlash. Backlash is good is yet right. You somehow makes this show is it and all that. Oh he's he's too nice. That's not realistic off. Ted laso backlash course. Oh fan i was about to say since season one but only one is dropped so far But i take it you know. I think i watched it all. After new year's eve i needed to do hungover. Wash it all come down. I was definitely. It was and now i'm excited to blow through season two as well. So you're going to get absolutely hammered before he watch it. What's the second season as well. Probably you know so. I can have the same sort of fat sort of curing hangover. You like to make it hard for us As in the west situation okay well it does feel like that's like ninety percent of tv now is like whenever you're in the mood to just give up your entire life to a series for like one and a quarter days like that's how you take it in now is crazy. I'd have time to watch when people say if you watched this thing when you have to have news side needs data's anytime you feel about podcast to i guess people drive to work for six hours a day. I did put a chess set on my wishlist of christmas presents. Like yeah you know. It'll look nice. And then we've already talked about ted. Lasso was just the joy that kept on giving. I love that series. I've seen it three times. Linda washed it the last time with me and agreed with me. It is a comedy version of friday night lights. But at the same time. I see eric taylor. And ted lasso at a coaches conference exchanging beers and talking about motivating young men. That's my list. I think the your last two probably going to be ones that we see shared amongst the five of us queens began. It was number one on netflix. For really long time. That show was huge and Yeah ted lasso is getting a lot of steamed not only from just casual viewers but like the tickets. They must have done at least three or four segments on. It's more than just soccer though. It is about soccer and it is just worth your time. Now jesse in your seven picks. I noticed only one of them is a movie right trial of chicago seven as a movie everything else. Tv shows do you feel like you didn't really watch very many movies. This year i watched wonder woman in almost by list despite everyone saying crappy things about one in nineteen eighty four. I thought it was a great movie. And i enjoyed it so i was gonna say i was surprised. That wonder woman didn't make at least an honorable mention. You seem to like it a lot more than a lot of other people one of the nice things if you can say anything nice during this pandemic is you did have a lot of time on tv watching and catching up. I caught up on a lot of tv series. We had never watched marvelous. Mrs maisel so. I watched that lost in space the morning show for all mankind is another series. There were things that i just really enjoyed. Thought were good. Yeah if we had expanded this list out to include reoccurring shows probably could have done a list of like fifteen area. Why don't we go to you next. Let's hear those picks for twenty twenty two of them. I'm going to do as honorable. Mentions because they didn't technically come out at twenty twenty but the first time anybody could see them was in two thousand and twenty first one was wayne. I know that bob is familiar with this. It was a youtube red series. Actually i watched it. I think it was about a year ago. I'm pretty sure it was in two thousand. Nineteen it got on netflix. Netflix amazon prime amazon amazon prime this year. So twenty twenty. It was new on amazon prime. And it's actually really good. It's very funny about a kid. Have a lot of hard luck in his life and him and his little fifteen year old girlfriend. Jump on a scooter up in boston and go all the way down to florida to get his dad's car that was stolen by his step mom when she left. It's a funny show. So i really liked wayne kingdom one that that i really liked about him and may fighters it's sort of like if sons of anarchy was in a may instead of motorcycles. It actually came out several years ago but was never really released until finally got picked up and put on epilepsy. This this year so it several years old but there's three seasons of it and it's actually really good. There's a show. That's a new show called big sky. That i just started watching. I think it's on abc. But i think i'm watching it on hulu like after the fact and it's been pretty decent so far for stuff that's come out in twenty twenty. I really like big sky as well. I think there's a solid there are some nice twist to it it. It's very good. I got the one with a ryan. Phillippe a guy that was twisty in american horror story. Right first episode is rather shocking. Okay so top. seven. I'm going to include lovecraft country reacquainted with george. The reason i'm back home my father. Scott miss he wrote me placing wants me to go is in lovecraft country one way inbound out. I haven't even gotten to the real strange part. I was surprised. I thought it was pretty good but it was so different than what i expected from. Watching the previews lovecraft country is my number seven. That's hbo. yes yes. Numbers six is.
